Description

Name:
Lalita

Species:
Nagini (female naga)

Appearance:
Image

Personality:
To be blunt, Lalita is usually a very excited, affectionate, and clingy individual. She loves to meet new people and make friends, and treats others kindly so long as they are not unduly aggressive or mean. If she feels close to someone, it is both a blessing and a curse for whoever is involved. She is lethally loyal to anyone she feels close to, but is also exceedingly clingy. In short, she is an attention hog, craving company above all else. Lalita absolutely abhors being alone, and avoids it at all costs. She is curious by nature, and will eagerly try new things or poke and prod things (or others) in an effort to learn more. She comes off as childish, but she is not stupid. While Lalita is generally of very kind disposition, she is also sensitive and dislikes rude or mean people, particularly if they have no reason to be. Should someone truly anger her, she will not hold back and keep it to herself.

Virtues:
-Loyal
-Affectionate
-Friendly
-Sensitive
-Outgoing

Vices:
-Clingy
-Doesn't handle insults or distress well
-Jealous
-Impatient

Skills and Species Characteristics:
Lalita is immortal to natural death and disease, though she can be slain. Like all nagas, her natural form is a human torso with a serpent body below the waist, but she can take on an entirely human or entirely serpentine form at will. She is naturally strong and intelligent. Lalita is highly venomous in her serpent form, and is just as deadly as a normal cobra. Swimming comes naturally to her as her kind dwell near or in water.

Weaknesses:
-Lalita is not good on human legs, so while her kind can take a fully human form, she rarely does. Incidentally, she also rarely takes a fully serpentine form either.

-Just because she can live forever doesn't mean she can't be killed.

-While she does have the upper body of a human and have the ability to be fully human, she is like all snakes in that she is ectothermic- she depends on her environment for thermoregulation. She cools down or warms up based on her surrounding temperatures, so if it is too hot or too cold, she can be compromised and feel sick. She is not able to use any magic if she is too off balance in her temperature.

So begins...

A large spring was nestled in the forest about fifteen minutes walk from the Ursa summer home, and the scene was peaceful and tranquil. The foliage was healthy and green, the spring water clear and refreshing, a small waterfall provided a gentle melody. It would look like any other picture worthy nature scene, save for one strange figure on a large rock.

Near the eastern corner of the spring was a cluster of rocks mere feet from the main incline from which the water poured and washed over the stones into the pool of water. Upon the largest of these rocks lay a curled up figure that seemed partially human.

A tanned young woman's torso was followed by a serpentine tail starting just below her navel. In addition to ebony black hair, she had a crest starting at her head and running along the back of her neck. A cobra's hood upon closer inspection. The strange being basked in the sun, looking quite relaxed.

After a few minutes, the female's amber eyes slowly blinked open, the nagini rubbing the sleep from her face as she sat up. A forked tongue tasted the air as she yawned, glancing around at her surroundings.

Lalita stretched, uncoiling herself before glancing down into the water, seeming to be looking for something. There was a kelpie who often shared the same water sources as she did, and the nagini was eager to have company now that she was awake. Stirring the water idly with a finger as she leaned from her perch on the rock, Lalita wondered where her friend Lorna was. Well, at least she considered Lorna a friend. The kelpie in question seemed to at least not mind her presence.

"Lorrrrrrrna? You in there?" she called out, hoping the other girl would be willing to play with her.

Sed stomped through the forest, grumbling all the while.

"Try to ruin my vacation, will he?...", he mumbled, "Not this time!" He called out, "Sir? Mister Ursa!? I promise not to shoot you with a shotgun!"

Suddenly he heard a voice nearby, "Lorrrrrrrna? You in there?", it said.

He immediately got low, looking around to pinpoint the sound, "Who's out there?", He demanded, "Show yourself!"

Lorna could hear Lalita calling out for her. She opens her eyes slowly, taking in the murky waters around her. She swims languidly through the muck at the very bottom of the water, before whipping her fin-like tail around and shooting up towards the top of the water. Splashing everything within a few feet of her, probably including Lalita. She turns, still in her equine form to the girl and snorts in greeting. Swimming towards the shallows, careful not to get too close to Lalita in the fear that she will accidentally get the Nagini stuck to her.

She dips her head to Lalita. She takes a moment to concentrate on her form, willing herself into a more human shape. But before she can manage to do so she hears another voice, this one she doesn't recognize. "Who's out there?", The voice demanded, "Show yourself!" Lorna chuckles to herself internally, turning to Lalita with a mischievous look, her form wavering between human and horse.

"Shall we scare him?" She asks, still concentrating hard on shifting to her human body. Her fins and fur giving way to normal skin and appendages.

The splashing of water didn't bother her in the slightest, the nagini giggling happily as she got wet in the process of Lorna coming to the surface. Smiling in delight as Lorna appeared and greeted her, Lalita waved cheerfully to the currently equine shaped kelpie. Slithering through the water towards the shallows and the edge of the spring, the dark haired girl watched in fascination as her fellow creature began to shift into a human form. Impressed at the kelpie's ability to manage herself on human limbs showed in her face. Regardless of what Lorna might say, she was still better at maneuvering as a human than she was.

"You're good at that. Human form is so hard!" Lalita commented, only to hear a strange male voice nearby. Looking in the direction of the voice, the serpentine girl tilted her head curiously in wonder, only for Lorna's voice to reach her ears.

Attention back to the now mostly human kelpie, Lalita smiled at the mischievous look. While normally Lalita tended towards showering others with affection and giddy playfulness, she couldn't deny the appeal of startling someone for the amusement it would bring. Besides, if Lorna would have more fun introducing themselves that way, that was fine with her. Friends first!

"Ok! Anything particular in mind?" she asked happily, approaching Lorna. She made sure to keep at least a few inches away, knowing how the kelpie could be quite sticky. It never bothered Lalita much, but she knew Lorna was careful about it.

"I'm warning you!", Sedgewick shouted.
Then he muttered, "Dammit", under his breath and slowly made his way through the brush, weapon at the ready

The sight that met him was confusing to say the least. There in front of him was a sizable spring, but there was no sign of any people.

He stepped up to the edge of the water and set his shotgun up against a rock before kneeling down to get a better look at the spring.

Lalita smiled as she waited for the human, ready to scare him as planned. Despite the short wait, she was already growing impatient when the face of a human appeared above the water. The nagini girl couldn't remember the last time she had seen a human. Maybe she had only seen human forms of other beings such as herself and Lorna? Who knew?

Letting the strange male lean down to inspect the water, Lalita waited all of two seconds before swimming up and splashing out of the water in his face.

"Boo!" she cried out, leaning forward into his personal space and promptly tapping him on the nose. Despite the goal being to 'scare' said human, Lalita's smile was anything but dangerous and threatening. Instead, she was smiling broadly, even giggling in delight at her little antic.

Having caused the man to fall backwards away from her sudden approach, Lalita slithered out of the water and approached him before he could get too far. Eyes wide and excited, she inspected him with apparent interest.

For a second, Lalita almost forgot that Lorna had yet to show herself.

Sed peered deeper into the pond, thinking he could just about make out a girl's face, when a dark haired girl jumped out of the water, drenching his clothes. She reached up and tapped his nose, knocking him off balance and onto his ass.

She was smiling wide and giggling like it was all just a big game. She stood over him, eyes wide and curious, without saying a word.

"Uh, hi. Who are you?", he said. Then he stood and began to walk around her, making an inspection of his own, "More importantly,", he said,"what are you?"

"You're a monster, obviously. That much is clear from your eyes and fangs. Your tail indicates that you're a lamia, but this...", he ran a gloved finger along the edge of the girl's hood and inspected it, "Cobra hood, indicates that you're a naga, or, I should say, nagini. Since you are very obviously...", he turned to face her but started to blush when he realized how much he had just invaded the girl's personal space by touching her hood.

"Ahem, since you're very obviously, uh, female..."

He turned away so she wouldn't see him blushing. He then clasped his hands behind his back and asked, "So, what's your name?"

The human recovered from her assault quickly, not seeming too perturbed by her sudden appearance. In moments, Lalita was being studied by the human, the figure standing and walking around her. He didn't seem threatening thus far, so she didn't make any attempt to go into a defensive posture.

Lalita smiled as he asked her who- and what- she was. Her brows soon furrowed when he called her a 'monster'- causing her to all but pout at the word. "I'm not a monster...." she whined softly, stopping as he continued to comment and inspect her form. The serpentine girl looked utterly surprised at his sudden touch on her cobra hood, tensing slightly at the unfamiliar gesture. For a moment, Lalita almost wondered if she should be wary and retaliate, until the male's demeanor changed.

Perhaps she was seeing things, but as he pulled away, Lalita could swear she saw a flush of pink on the human's cheeks. How cute! No longer addressing her as a monster was a positive, and her pout was once more replaced with a bright and happy smile. Without warning, she promptly wrapped her arms around the strange male in an excited hug- the concept of personal space obviously a foreign one to her.

"Yay! Human is smart and not too scary! Ooooh, warm too!" she chimed in a sing song voice of delight, regarding him with a look of wonder. Beaming, she happily answered him with her name. "I'm Lalita! Wanna be my friend?"

Pausing only to glance apologetically at the spring, Lalita hoped Lorna wouldn't be too disappointed. She couldn't help it- she was too excited to meet someone new- a human no less! She'd never met one before, and unlike what she expected, he didn't run in terror from her. She liked Lorna most out of her friends and acquaintances, but she still couldn't turn down meeting new people.

"Though the clans got on well enough, each side had their misgivings, my mother told me," Akira explained. "The Ursas weren't too keen on sharing living space with people who freely used magic, and the Iwasakis felt that your ancestors weren't ready for that. They might have been mighty warriors, but they were still barbarians, if you'll forgive me for saying so."

Retracing her steps to where she originally saw Teddy, Akira found the direction from which he had come. From here on out it was just a case of walking straight ahead until they found that summer home Ted mentioned. The pair were coming close to the lake in the forest when Akira's sensitive ears perked up. She heard voices in the direction of the lake. Raising a finger to her lips, the kitsune silently slinked away to investigate, motioning for Teddy to follow. If he stayed close enough, his own presence would also be masked by her magic.

On the shore of the lake, Akira could see two figures. One of them was another human, of all things, but the other she distinctly recognised. With no need to conceal herself, she came out of hiding and approached them.

"Well hello, Lalita... and hello, handsome. I see you've found yourself a human too." Of course the nagini was already hugging the poor man, ever ready to make friends with complete strangers. "And who might you be, I wonder?"

"It's true that they were barbarians," Teddy mentioned, Akira sure knew their history, "Except Mom told me that the Ursas witnessed the hostage system the Japanese used in Feudal Japan."

Teddy halts at Akira's signal, then follows her closely. He sees Lalita and gets frightened at first, but swallowed his worries when it was apparent that Akira and Lalita were on friendly terms. However, in Lalita's grip, he sees the one who he had abandoned at the home, "Oh, hey, Sedgewick," Teddy nervously and awkwardly addressed, as if some teen caught stealing a cookie, "Wonderful weather we're having, isn't it?"

Sedge shouted and stumbled a bit when the snake-girl embraced him, "H-hey! What're you doing?!" His eyes went wide, and his face went even redder when she called him warm. "I'm Lalita! Wanna be my friend?"

"I uh, s-sure...", he managed to stammer out.

Just then, a woman walked out of the bushes. Sedge could tell right away that she was a kitsune. She studied Sedge and Lalita fir a moment, "Well hello, Lalita... And hello, handsome. I see you've found yourself a human too.", she regarded Sedgewick with a sly smile, "And who might you be I wonder?"

Sedgewick looked down and pushed his sunglasses back up his nose in an attempt to hide his embarrassment. "Sedgewick Johanneson, ma'am..."

As he said this, a second figure emerged from the bushes. His employer, Teddy Ursa. "Oh, hey, Sedgewick. Wonderful weather we're having, isn't it?" Teddy said nervously.

"Mister Ursa! Are you alright?" Sedgewick ran to his charge's side, inspecting him for injuries.

"Well, I'm fine," Teddy replied. He actually felt kind of sorry for what Sedgewick had to go through, "I couldn't keep myself from going into this forest, but I found a lot of incredible things here! I even met this... Fox... Spirit, Akira Iwasaki, and our families are actually linked in history!"

Teddy was out of breath by the time he finished as excitedly as he spoke. He was about to say more, but then was halted by what Catherine had said earlier back in Supernatural Village. He then shifted his focus back onto the scenario at hand. "I'm sorry I snuck out," he admits, "It just has been eating at me for years."

He then shifts his focus onto Lalita, "Do you know Akira?" He asked, "And do all of you... Animal... Spirit... People, know each other somehow?"

Lalita beamed happily as the human she was currently hugging agreed to be her friend, making her squeeze tighter for just a second. "Yay! New friend!" she chimed joyfully, about to snuggle the poor unsuspecting human some more when a familiar voice met her ears.

Turning to face the kitsune, Lalita inadvertently released Sedgewick as she smiled, waving in greeting. "I found a human- wait, you mean there's more than one here?! How many? Where did they come from? Humans are never here..." the nagini wondered, looking over at the human behind Akira. Another human huh? Slightly less good looking than the one she had stumbled upon, but still an intriguing sight.

Slithering over to inspect the other human, Lalita didn't hug this one, but quirked her brow at him. His question earned a smile and a nod. "Yup! I know Akira! I know quite a few others around here, but we don't all necessarily know everyone else! But I have many friends!" Seeing Sedgewick approach the one she was conversing with, she happily hugged her 'new friend' once more. "Friend Sedgewick!"

Sedgewick smacked Teddy on the back of thehead when he was done checking on him. "Yeah, don't be daft. Of course they don't all know each other. That'd be like asking if all humans know each other.", he said.

Suddenly, Lalita was hugging him again. His eyes went wide and he started blushing again. Not knowing what else to do, he returned the hug and patted her head.

Sedgewick turned to his employer, "S-sir, our meal is far beyond cold by now. It's also getting late. We should return home. You ladies are, of course, invited along as well... Should you be so inclined..."

Already in good spirits, the hug and pat on the head earned a blush of her own, the snake girl sighing happily, nuzzling her face against the human. She loosened her grip so she didn't accidentally squeeze too tight or too much, but she was still clinging onto Sedgewick's arm. Lalita had no concept on personal space, and it showed.

"I didn't know humans could be so nice! Akira! Have you ever met one before? I don't think I have! I heard stories and stuff, but to think we find some here of all places!" she exclaimed excitedly to the kitsune, only to return her attention to sedgewick.

"Are all humans warm? What kind of foods do you like eating? Is it hard being a human? How'd you all get out here? Where'd you come from?" she bombarded the poor humans with questions, eyes bright with excitement and fascination.

Teddy pulled back a little upon being studied. Then he realized, this is possibly the first time Sedgewick had ever interacted with a woman, and a strange one at that! He knew Sedgewick was always a little girl shy, so it was no surprise to him when he saw Sedgewick blushing when Lalita began to cuddle him again. When informed of the meal at home, he replied, "Yeah, we should while we can still reheat it."

He then looked and thought about Lalita, she seemed oblivious to the human concept of personal space. However, personal space a concept held sacred by humans, and maybe not by whatever Lalita is. He then thought about a snake documentary he once saw, and when it reached the mating rituals and linked potential images with Lalita... Creator help the poor soul! Teddy couldn't let Sedgewick be dragged away, he needed someone other than him to do his chores! "Rich guy powers, activate!" Teddy whispered to himself before addressing Lalita, "Humans are warm. We eat... Well... Anything, but I can buy the highest quality cuisine. Yes, some humans are kind, but the human race as a whole can be an evil race at times. As for me, I wondered what was in this forest, so I explored. Finally, I hail from London, England."

He knew Sedgewick was more handsome than he was, making him conclude that Lalita was that more likely to drag him away and Teddy would never see him again. He had to strike on whatever charm he had to avert Lalita's attention. "Besides," Teddy begins to mention, "Sedgewick is a little frightened of women, you may want to release him before he goes insane with timidity-induced fear."

Akira watched as Lalita all but wrapped herself around Sedgewick, unable to resist a giggle at their antics. She had figured that when she first found the Ursa boy, his devoted bodyguard couldn't be too far away, although perhaps he could have done with keeping an eye on Teddy better. Regardless, they were safe and reunited now. When Sedgewick invited both Akira and Lalita to join them for dinner, the kitsune's eyes widened a little, repeating the words under her breath to make sure she hadn't misheard them. The Iwasaki clan had had barely any physical interaction with the Ursas for centuries, and here she was being given permission to enter their home for dinner.

"I'd... I'd be honoured, Sedgewick. Thank you," she said, her head bowed. "Lalita, would you kindly let go of the poor man before he passes out?" Smiling softly to herself, the kitsune prepared to follow the human once he had been released.

Sedgewick smiled at his new friend's excitement. He was about to answer her questions, when his boss cut him off, "Humans are warm. We eat... Well... Anything, but I can buy the highest quality cuisine. Yes, some humans are kind, but the human race as a whole can be an evil race at times. As for me, I wondered what was in this forest, so I explored. Finally, I hail from London, England.", Teddy said with a breath.

Sedgewick's face went deadpan. Teddy knew better than to speak for him, but he was still the boss.

"Besides," Teddy mentioned, "Sedgewick is a little frightened of women, you may want to release him before he goes insane with timidity-induced fear."

Sedgewick scowled at that. He didn't appreciate that his boss took him for a coward. Nonetheless, he gently squeezed himself out of Lalita's grip and retrieved his shotgun.

He slung it over his shoulder and gave Lalita another pat on the head as he walked by. He also gave Akira a pat on the head as well, in case she felt left out, "I'm happy to have honoured you, ma'am." he said.

"Well ladies, and Mister Ursa," he said, "daylight's wasting', so let's get moving." He made sure to "accidentally" pass close enough that the butt of his shotgun gave Teddy a pat on the head too.

"Sheesh!" Teddy exclaimed to Sedgewick in a whisper, "Lalita... Was that her name? Lalita knows nothing about personal space, what if she became ATTRACTED to you!? You don't know what snake mating rituals look like, but I do! I was trying to save you from being never heard of again!"

"Well," Teddy decided to say in a more public volume, "There's not much here to entertain, why don't we converse as we walk? There must be interesting things you girls probably want to talk about."

Absorbing all the new information like a sponge, Lalita looked thoughtful as she mulled over the second human's words. Humans were warm. Omnivores as well. For some reason this human seemed to find his kind as a whole to be more bad than good, which greatly puzzled the nagini. She had little time to ponder the thought before he told her where he came from. London huh? Lalita was unfamiliar with the name, but she committed it to memory all the same.

It was only when he declared Sedgewick was frightened of women that the nagini responded, turning to face the friend in question. Surprise was in her features, not even for a moment thinking he could possibly be scared by her. The thought was a depressing one.

"Insane with fear? But...he doesn't seem to be afraid. What does a frightened human look like?" Lalita asked skeptically, feeling more than a tad put out. Her expression became more unhappy as Akira told her to release Sedgewick's arm. Releasing the arm as the male went to retrieve an odd looking item, Lalita pouted.

"But I'm not a constrictor type...I'm a cobra, not a boa or a python..." she reasoned, wondering if maybe humans were more fragile than she thought. She couldn't logically squeeze one to death...could she? What if Akira was right?

The pat on her head earned a smile and a faint flush of her cheeks in delight, the attention more than welcome. She watched with a smile as he patted Akira as well, and invited them to follow. Lalita followed eagerly, hesitating only slightly before looking tentatively up at Sedgewick's face.

"He doesn't seem fearful..." she murmured again, only to peer at the male with questioning eyes. "Am I scary?" she asked, looking worried herself for a moment. Even before he could answer, she glanced at the object in his hand, pointing curiously to it. "What's that? It looks heavy."

As they began their trek home, Sedgewick noticed that Lalita seemed a bit melancholic. "Am I scary?", she asked. Before he could answer her she pointed and looked quizically at his shotgun.

"What's that?", she asked, "I looks heavy."

"Nah. This,", he replied, holding it up, "is an Ithaca Model 37 12 gauge shotgun. It's a weapon, and it is very effective at its job."

"This is my very favorite gun. I call it Vera."

He added, "And to answer your first question: no, you aren't scary." For added emphasis he patted her head again.

The kitsune was a little confused as to why Sedgewick gave her a pat on the head. She felt her cheeks redden a little, likely due to the embarrassment of such treatment. Yes, that must be it. When the four of them set off together, Akira walked by Teddy's side, eyes and ears ever alert for any dangers that might be out there.

Overhearing the conversation between Lalita and Sedgewick, Akira's attention was also drawn to the object he held. One of those loud weapons that the magically-deprived had to make do with. Clumsy, but still powerful in its own right. He had also given it a female name, apparently. "Does that mean you're already taken?" she enquired, smirking.

He must be single, the kitsune thought to herself.

Teddy's summer home could not be too far away by now. Even after the momentary diversion at the lake, they were still travelling in the direction Akira had seen Teddy come from. She looked forward to this dinner. It wasn't often that she got invited over as a guest.

Teddy couldn't help but chuckle at Akira's question, this wasn't the first time Teddy wandered off, and whenever Sedgewick came to his rescue he remembered he always went commando and ready to crack heads. He knew this wasn't an exception. He wondered how many times Sedgewick and his family had to charge into the Ursa's defence. He recognizes a few landmarks, indicating they are close to home.

His attention turns to Akira, "So Akira," he begins, "What's life like at your place of dwelling?"

"Shotgun....." Lalita murmured, taking in the human's words as she looked over the device in question. So it was a human weapon. She had vaguely heard of guns at some point, non human beings sometimes comparing notes and stories of the human creatures they shared the planet with. But this was the first she had ever seen of such a device.
"Are all human weapons this size?" she asked, looking between the gun and Sedgewick.

Her smile and happy demeanor returned in seconds as Sedgewick assured her she wasn't scary. He didn't seem to be lying, and the pat on her head further encouraged her. Face flushed joyfully, Lalita slithered almost soundlessly between the two humans and Akira.

Akira's comment didn't go unheard, and the nagini quirked a brow in puzzlement. "Already taken? What do you mean?" she asked the kitsune, trying to ponder her words for a few minutes. After a brief pause, Lalita held up her finger in an 'ah-ha' motion, realization in her eyes. "Oh! Do you mean taken as in he has a mate? Oh wow! How can you tell Akira?" she asked, looking at her fellow creature with awe.

Sedgewick shook his head, "Nah, we have smaller weapons too." He drew his pistol from his jacket, "See?"

"Does that mean you're taken?", he heard the kitsune ask.

He started blushing as he holstered his pistol. "N-no ma'am. When you have to look after a man like Mister Ursa there's no time for romance. Though I suppose you could say I'm married to my work." he stood up straighter, trying to unwrinkle his still damp suit. "Though, if I may be so bold ladies, what about yourselves? Are you spoken for? I would hate to find my life endangered because I invited the two of you to dinner."
