a character in “My Second Chance”, as played by tornadofan2

Description

Name: Svalin Insomnian
Age: 16 years old.
Gender: Female
Eye color: Blue
Hair color: Her natural colour is a light blonde, but she often changes the colour.
Height: 168 centimeters
Defining features: Her right eye is white and dull, that's her blind eye. Has a crossed scar on the left side of her neck, and she misses her index finger on her left hand and her pink on her right.
Bully or Bullied: Svalin was bullied, ever since she was five years old. It all started then. They'd pick on her, give her names. As she became older, they'd even hit her, harasse her. They'd cut off her hair when she was 13 years old, and they punched her face so her right eye is blind.
Likes: Silence, animals, nature, the moon, the stars, swimming, walking, taking care of animals.
Dislikes: Being bullied, loud noises, strange people, strange situations, strange places.
Personality: Svalin does not talk, not after her boyfriend died. She is completely silent, and not willing to interact with people at all, no matter who they are. She only interacts with her older brother. She keeps herself away and often stays in one place, or will go outside and hide herself for others, ashamed of her looks. She eats only once a day, dinner, and she will keep to that. She has a hard time trusting people, and she hasn't trusted anyone, except her brother, ever since she was 8 years old. She does not want to be in a group, or surrounded by people, or hear too loud noises. She blocks the reality and lives a lot in her own little world.
History: Everything was fine the first four years of her life. It all happened after she turned five. Her parents and she moved to a different country, and there a small group of boys and girls started picking on her. They called her names, and got the rest of the school to join in, only to make her life miserable. She would come home every day, crying her heart out at her parents and begging them to turn back and go back home. But they always refused and told her everything would be fine. As she grew older, the group became rough. They hit her several times in her stomach, or sides. When she was 9 years old, one boy hit her hard in her face and blinded her right eye. When she was 11 years old, a girl cut a cross in her neck. When she was 13 years old, the group cut of her hair. She didn't go to school until her hair had grown again and she cut of her index finger and pink. She got a boyfriend. He also was new on the school and he instantly liked her. He was eighteen though. They'd often hang out, until he died when she was 14 years old. Ever since, she has not said a single word, only to her older brother. And then, when she was sixteen, she was on a school trip in the mountains. She had wandered off and faced a bear, one that tore her apart. She was certain that she'd die, but they brought her to a hospital. And then she woke up in this mansion.

What's the last thing you remember?
Was it car screeching? Was it fire? Gun shot?
It's fine if you don't remember right away.
So tell me... Were you the bully? Or the bullied?
Any regrets? yeah... most people regret allot...
Listen... everyone deserves a second chance right?
Well here's yours.

Svalin found it highly annoying this voice that had just talked, who had woken her up. She was not happy, and the day had just started. The curtains were open, who had done that!? She had asked the nurses to keep the stupid curtains closed and now they were open! Dammit! She would teach the stupid nurses to do as she says and not just open the damn things. Svalin was off to a bad start, a really bad start.

The young girl, with light blonde hair, opened her eyes, not with a gasp, but just slowly. She moved her hands over her eyes and growled as the light of the sun burned her skin already. Great! She slowly sat up, got out of bed, went to the window and closed the curtains. That was better. Now she had time to look around where she was. And Svalin was in a place she just did not know, and unknown places scared her. She then noticed she was naked! Naked! Had they dared to undress her! She growled and rammed her fist into the wall, only to yelp and collapse to the ground. It was not the pain from her fist, but something more, larger.

Scars. Gigantic scars. From slashes it seems. She frowned. Svalin could not remember anything from those scars. And than it hit her. A bear. The stupid school trip to the mountains. She had wandered off, actually to see if she could get some alcohol somewhere, or just walk away and go back home, no one would care anyways. And then she stumbled across this gigantic bear that seemed simply complete mad. And she had nothing to defend herself with. And the bear had attacked her, without mercy. He had slashed right across her chest, deep gashes, bleeding badly. The bear had ripped open the belly of Svalin, almost spilling her guts. And her legs were just as bad. Gashes till up her bone, you could just see her bones. She should have died right there and then, but someone found her.

Svalin was brought to the hospital that was rather close. But she had only laid there for a few hours before she... Before she... She could not remember! The memory was gone. Or did she die then? Yes, that was it. She remembered the cries of her mother and the long irritating high noise that came from some kind of machine connected to her heart. But, if she had died then, why did she feel and breath right now.

With a sigh, and reluctant, Svalin got up and saw a closet. She frowned and opened it, to find ugly cloths. She searched for a sweatpants and t-shirt, and found it. Alas the only thing she liked. She quickly dressed and looked around, then at her body. The slashes were scars now. But than quite some while should have passed right, or was this just some weird dream, was the whole attack a dream and was she just in a tent sleeping? No, Svalin shook her head and looked around. This was not a dream, this was far from a dream. But did she dare to leave the room and go and see what was behind it? No. She instead crawled under the bed with a pillow and blankets and curled up, shaking slightly because she was completely unknown to this situation.

Thomas was unable to respond. Outside stimuli seemed to have no effect. All noises meshed into one noise, every single part becoming of equal volume to other parts. Or so his mind made it. He couldn't concentrate. There was too much noise. He eventually opened them to find a girl sitting across from him. He simply stared, and remained silent. The room was now filled with people. Thomas didn't particularly dislike people, but had a general aversion to them. He would much rather do other things, unless the other person was interesting enough. So far, no one was that interesting to Simon. He tried to see the light in someone's eyes before, and it was lost to him. He doubted he had any either.
"So, do you know where the f*ck we are?"
The girl across from him began to address someone else after a short while of Thomas sitting there without response. A loud, tall person covered in blood. Judging by the appearance of blood on his shirt and Thomas' own scarring, he assumed that this person may have simply looked like this in death. He didn't know if people were taken here in the form they were in at the time of their death, but healed. Thomas did not have any blood on him, despite being shot a lot. Whatever the case, he decided to reserve judgement. It was not needed. More information was needed, and the differences might be trivial all along. In the instant he thought this, the same girl had moved to face the wall. Woops. There went another chance to socialize. Welp, maybe there would be many more. It seems even more people were here, including a lop-sided girl in the hallway. Of the noise that bothered Thomas, half of it might have had to do with her, if she fell. Well, whatever the case, someone was tending to her. Hopefully she would be fine. Thomas stopped and watched, motionless except for his eyes and head. He watched everyone. The people who entered all appeared to be around his age, and some seemed to be a problematic bunch. Of course, he knew nothing about any of them, so they all seemed suspicious. He heard, from earlier, somewhere, people yelling sentences and questions after pauses. He counted the pauses and tried to remember the few sentences he could understand. It seemed that it was possible they were yelling responses to the same things Thomas had heard before, given where the noise seemed to come from. Maybe they were here under similar circumstances. Unfortunately, he was too spaced out to at the time to remember. He might as well have been dead at the time. Or almost dead. It didn't matter. Then he heard a girl's voice. He couldn't make out everything, or anything at all. She seemed to be in the living areas, like what he himself woke up in. He sat, deciding to be a bystander. He kept his thoughts to himself. Besides, they would probably figure it out, eventually. Until then, he observed without moving anything but his head and eyes. . .The deafening crowd was disgusting. He wanted to leave, but decided against it. Learning was dangerous, after all. It required being in situations one does not necessarily want to be in.

Svalin stayed hiding under her bed, not caring she heard other people too. She was even on the verge of tears that scared she was, and yet there seemed no way to leave this place. She grabbed the pillow and the blanket and hugged the blanket around her and made a hood as to hide herself and held the pillow close to her chest, terrified of all these people. She swallowed and crawled from underneath the bed. Svalin looked around the room and swallowed, then made her way to the door and slowly opened it.

The voices became louder. She swallowed, shaking of fear for other people she did not know in this place and situation she was completely unknown to. She looked around and slowly made her way down to where the voices came from, and found more people, around the same age as her maybe, that seemed just as confused as she was. She held the blanket closer and pulled the hood further over her head to hide her face. Svalin was scared, so she quickly hide again out of the room and in the hallway. She hugged the pillow closer.

After about ten more minutes of being bored Cas decided that she might as well find out who everyone was. This is gonna suck... she thought with a groan. She stood up and looked around the room at everyone before rolling her eyes. Might as well say [i]something[/]... someone was bound to reply.

"Well...." She rubbed the back of her neck and looked at everyone in turn again. Such a variety of people. "I'm Cas and I don't know what the hell we are doing here...but I sure as hell remembering dying. So ... anyone else or am I the crazy one in this starburst packet bunch?" She crossed her arms over her front and waited.

It was then that she noticed someone wrapped in a sheet and standing in the doorway looking terrified. She felt her heart twist just a little and waved smiled a little bit at the person, hoping that maybe they wouldn't be so scared. She stopped her thoughts in surprise. Since when did she care about people at all? She went back to examining the other people in the room.

"I-I'm Bo... And... Well I'm not sure how to answer that... I'm scared... I guess... Umm... A-And you?"

Bo, huh? A short name for a short girl. But it wasn’t any secret she was scared, it was, in all honesty, glaringly obvious. Julian was about to answer, but then the other people started to show up.

The bloodstained Italian was loud and annoying. He wanted answers? What made him think that the gathering of confused people had any?

That dark haired girl who had been previously cursing decided to butt her head into other’s affairs. Julian’s smile dropped a fraction when he heard her point out that which what was perfectly clear to everyone else. Ah. Those who pointed out the obvious never failed to grate on his nerves.

The Japanese girl was an idiot. Not much else to say about that.

Then there were a few others who had not deigned to speak yet, but that didn’t stop Julian from imposing his judgments upon them. He scanned the room, noticing a few more interesting people hovering about the edges of the living space. The most notable of which being a shirtless guy, and a girl hiding in her comforter.

The guy? Ew. What drove him to wander about half-naked in a stranger’s home? He was the kind of idiot who would inevitably get themselves date-raped, sad (not really) but true.

And the girl? Well, Julian really couldn’t blame her. Blankets were sometimes just too comfortable to resist.

Julian’s smile had completely vanished at this point. Mmhm. And the humans never fail to live up to their reputation. Though then again, this batch seemed to be particularly revolting.

But he had to deal, like always, and returned his attention back to the small red-haired maiden. “Scared? Well, I suppose you have good reason to be. We are, after all, in some stranger’s home filled with unfamiliar and potentially dangerous people. And since you are physically weak and practically unable to defend yourself, you, out of all of us, have the most reason to be frightened.”

Svalin shivered in the blankets and closed her eyes. Why had she left the room, the room where she did felt a little comfortable. Now she was here, with people she did not know, in a room she did not know, in a situation she did not know, and it scared her completely. She pressed the pillow tighter against her, as tight as the young girl could, shivering of fear and not daring to move. She stayed in the corner with her blankets, and nothing was going to change that, nothing at all. Svalin did not even know where she was and why she was here, and she wasn't keen on finding out either. She just wanted to leave, to go home.

Svalin was comfy wrapped in the blanket, but not comfortable around the rest. She noticed a girl walking to her and curled up as best she could to make herself small. She trembled as the girl crouched down and swallowed. Cas introduced herself, but Svalin had not spokencto anyone besides her brother. She hardly knew how to speak, but something made her want to try to actually make contact with this girl. Svalin swallowed.

"M... M... m.. me.. me.. S..v.. a.. l.. lin.." Svalin looked at Cas.

The girl was having trouble speaking and this worried Cas. Why was she so scared? Surely there couldn't be an actual reason for why... But watching her curl into the blanket even more was intriguing and adorable all at the same time. Wait....adorable?!?! Now lets get something straight right now. Cas did not like people. Cas did not show "feelings" even if may be mild affection. And yet this girl who couldn't be much younger than herself, was causing her to want to reach out and comfort her this...this...stranger. She frowned a little in confusion before smiling at the girl, hoping to appear friendly. She really did not know what she was doing.

"What a pretty name Svalin. Why don't you come out of the doorway and come sit on a chair where it's comfortable?" She poited to the small cluster of armchairs she had been sitting at earlier, one of them a bit farther away from the others and so providing a sizeable distance from the other people in the room. "I'll stand guard if you want so no one can get you," she said with a little wink and held her hand out. "Whattya say?"

All of this confused the blanket girl. She had been scared of everyone and everything, yet this girl, named Cas, was making her slightly comfortable. It all confused her, and made her even more scared. But, then again, maybe this would gain her a friend, one that respected her and would defend her. But after all, just a great friend.

Cas stuck her hand out. Svalin shivered slightly, but reached out her own hand and placed it in that of the other girl. She slowly stood up with Cas, though still as scared as before. She held the blankets and pillows around her.

Cas smiled a little before hearing a guy announce he was going outside. Quickly she assessed the situation. Rose bush maze...terrified girl....swarms of people... She glanced at her companion who was still clutching her hand and wrapping in the blanket. It made her giggle a little bit.

"What do you want to do? Do you still want to sit down, or do you want to head outside? We can always sit down for a little bit and then go outside. It's up to you." She stayed completely still, worried she might scare the girl more if she moved.

Bo had felt eye's on her for a fleeting moment. The glare of someone judging her. She frowned. Things never changed no matter where she went... People always judged... ALWAYS... She opened her eyes and sighed when at the corner of her eye she swore she'd spotted someone. A boy with long hair looking confused and probably just as terrified as herself and the others. But when she'd blinked... He was gone. Time passed and soon one of the people in the room announced he was going to go outside. Bo was going to follow when she'd remembered the terrified boy who'd been at the top of the stairs... Where had he gone. Bo turned and looked up at the stairs and pondered for awhile before she decided slowly but surely to make her way back up the stairs.

At the top and in the hall she spots the one girl... Cas the one who'd probably glared at her... She ignores her though. Instead she looks passed the two girls and down the hall's a longer way where indeed there is the strange boy with the long hair. He still looks scared... Bo walks into the hall and bows her head as she passes the girls. Wanting to disappear wanting to make herself part of the scenery. She moves all the way down the hall until she's standing in front of the boy. Bo stared down at the young man before sitting down in front of him putting on her bravest smile reaching out and touching the boy's shoulder. "I-It's o-o-ok to be... s-scared... Everyone... i-is... But p-please don't s-stay here..." She inhales and exhales rapidly refusing to let her phobia take over and make her panic and run. "W-Will... You come out into... t-the maze with m-me... Cause... I-im scared.. a-and unsure... to." She swallows and keeps her head raised so he can see her face. But despite how brave she was trying to be she could feel her whole frame shaking and her hand was frozen on the boy's shoulder. Too late she was having a panic attack stuck in place frozen trying not to thing of how tall and probably scary the boy was when he stood. She needed to be brave... She had to be brave... Had too...

Svalin was slowly looking around at the other people. She was not sure what she should do, run for her room, stay with Cas and do something with her... She was utterly confused how she even ended up in this place anyway. Her parents had not told her a thing about this, and her classmates or teachers had not either. She really did not know what to do without the comfort of her own home where she knew everything and where the situations never changed. Svalin would return home, and would see her mother cooking. She would go upstairs and make her homework, then come down when her father returned home. They would all eat dinner at the dining table, then move to the living room and watch television, probably a movie that would be on, and then it would be time for Svalin to go to bed. And the next morning the routine would be happening again. But here it was different.

Svalin looked at the girl before her and swallowed. She first wanted to sit down, and maybe go outside then. She did like the comforts of nature, the birds singing and such. ''M.. m.. m.. me... s.. s.. si.. si.. sit.. sit..'' Svalin was having difficulties talking. She had not talked in years, and now it all seemed so difficult.

Cas nodded and smiled before squeezzing her hand gently. She led her over to the chair and backed up a bit, in case Svalin needed some space.

"Take all the time you need."

With that she turned to gaze impassively at the others in the room.

Svalin followed after Cas with a faint, a very faint, smile as the girl lead Svalin over to the chair. Svalin sat down and looked around, unsure of what to do now. But she needed her time to calm down and get a bit comfortable in this situation, because there seemed no way to escape it.

Cas stood and watched as people were either conversing or walking out to the rose bushes...or both. While she had no desire to get lost or stuck in some unknown place, she was intrigued to see if she could get out. Get home. She sighed and looked at the girl in the blanket. What was her story? Why was she here? Why were any of the here?

"Svalin? What was the last thing you remember? If you don't mind me asking...."

Svalin looked at Cas as she asked a question about what she remembered. She thought for a moment, then looked at Cas again. "I... w.. wa.. was.. a.. attacked... b.. by.. b...bear.. and ... brought... t.. to t.. the hospital.." Svalin found it quite funny her way of talking. Cas just spoke while she herself had problems with the words and letters.

She frowned, already getting used to the jumble of stutters the girl produced from talking. She had thought that maybe she was just scared and that's why she didn't talk very well....but now it seemed as if the girl actually had trouble speaking. She crouched in front of the chair to look up trying to see Svalins face.

"Do you....do you remember dying Svalin?" She said her name softly, ready to comfort her should she freak out. Though...the comforting part? Yeah Cas was still unsure how to go about that.

Svalin looked at Cas and thought. She went through the scenario. She had walked away from the sleeping spot. She had gone deep into the forest, and stumbled across a giant bear. The bear had slashed at Svalin and her body had been covered in blood and deep gashes, up until the bone. The class had brought her to the hospital. And indeed... She had died. Her heart had stopped and she did not remember waking up after. Svalin looked at Cas and nodded.

Cas breathed out with a slight frown on her face. So more than one person remembered dying but that didn't mean the rest of them did. Her head hurt and she realised for the first time that her legs hurt from standing so much. She sat on the floor in front of the chair and stretched out her legs in relief as the muscles relaxed.

"What would you like to do now then?"

Svalin looked at Cas and thought. She didn't really know what she wanted to do now. But maybe they could go outside, though she would keep the blankets around her. Cas frowned a little as Svalin showed no intention to leave the blanket behind. No matter she would make sure nothing was in front of the girl to make her trip. She nodded and stood to walk towards the door slowly, she didn't want to leave behind the other girl. As she walked she spoke while keeping an eye for anyone else who might pass them and scare Svalin.

"It looked like a maze...so we may get lost. But I guess that's just a risk I'm gonna have to take. We may need something to mark the turns and twists we take so we don't get confused. Can you see anything we might use Svalin?"

Svalin slowly got up and held the blankets tight. She swallowed and slowly, step by step, followed after the girl. She looked around to make sure no one would scare her. Svalin also looked at the ground to make sure she would not trip. And slowly, the girl followed after Cas who was leading the way outside. And in the mean while, Cas was talking and Svalin was looking around. She looked for something that could mark the way. She found little strips of clothing and showed it to Cas.

Thomas looked around. A bunch of people arrived. A boy with long hair and a girl with red hair, along with a girl in a blanket accompanied by another girl, and two other girls, one of which looked "sharp" to Thomas. He still refused to judge. Instead, he turned his attention to the maze, and drew his pencil to the paper. He had memorized the pattern on the page, and had enough hand-eye coordination to watch where he was going while drawing. This should be fine. He looked forward, and began to walk, marking the way on the paper, before turning around. It was better to make friends than to make enemies. At least, this was justification enough to make friends. Thomas raised his hand, and addressed everyone who had come out, or rather, who wished to listen.

"I have a map we can use to not get lost and be forced to eat roses to live. It would be best if we traveled in a group, since that would make tracing much the path we take easier, to say the least."

Thomas got prepared to join the group if it formed, and follow, marking the way.

"So, Jesse. Do you uh... live here or are you visiting like me?" "Uhh, well I think everyone is just visiting here, no one reslly knows where we are Miho." Jesse kept waking until she saw the dude with the yellow scarf again saying something about a map he has. "That is a good idea, I thought it would also be smart if every so often we picked some roses off the bushes and placed them on the ground to mark where we have been." Jesse told the group her thoughts and then sat on the ground waiting for everyone else to start moving.
