Aurora Heartstring

Look at how lovely these lilies are.

a character in “Mysteries a Mirror holds”, as played by Fatal_Flaw_Enki

Description

Aurora is a middle class girl in the farming district. She is no older than eighteen. Her frame is very thin and frail, and she tends to wear very large clothing to hide her curves from public eye. Her hair is a dark brown-black like her brothers, and once her eyes were almost the same brilliant emerald green, but ever since what her father did they have been a deep saddening grey. Her eyes are sunken in a bit to show the sorrow and pain she had gone through in her life, and her skin a pale white that looks cold and deathly. People see her as a very frail girl who has not eaten in long periods of time and worry that she might pass out, though she is very well fed, and healthy.

Because she lacks human emotion for the most part, Aurora does tend to wear one piece of color in a bow on her head. All her other clothing are usually deep grey or black. The ribbon she wears the most on her head is red, to symbolize her love for her older brother, though other colors are used at times. When she uses other colors she does not tell people what they mean, but will talk to her brother.

Personality

Aurora is a very timid and shy young woman. After her father's attack, mother's death, and brother becoming her only living relative, she started to stay up in the attic all by herself. She is socially backwards, meaning she does not talk to others, and often comes off as a stranger even when she does speak. Her love for flowers does manage to keep her going though. She wishes she had more gull to speak with Celest, Lyric's girlfriend, about the floral shop she had started.

When she is around her brother, her saddening, sorrow attitude tends to brighten up. She speaks more around him, and shares herself a little more, though when others are around she tends to shut down. Her theory is that if someone in her family she cared for so much, like her father, could turn around and harm her then the people in the outside world could do so much more harm.

History

Aurora grew up in a broken family. Her father was a drunken farmer, and her mother was a stay at home mother. She lived with two older brothers, who were her life. Being the favorite to her father, she was often taken on long horse back rides with him and never feared his hand as much as the rest of her family. He was a different man when they were out on the horses, than when he came home and drank. She witnessed him beating her mother and brothers often, but never said a word in fear that he would eventually turn his hand toward her as well. Her brothers were not happy that she was not part of the beatings as well, but were all in all glad she could find the soft side in their father.

When her eldest brother Lyric began to help their father out around the barn, their father's drunken spells worsened. He started to shout more, beat more often, and for longer periods of time before passing out. It was only a matter of time before someone tried to stop their father, and she had not expected it to be her brother Lyric. She watched her brother fight of their drunken father, until he fell to the floor and stopped breathing. Fearing that she was going to loose her brother, Aurora spoke out against her father, trying to show him what he was doing was completely wrong. Angered that she had even spoken against him, he went for her. Told her he would teach her a lesson that she would never forget, and that he had been too soft on her in the past years. He kept beating on her until her younger brother got in the way, and was beaten to death. Then he started to strip her and use her when her mother got involved.

In the end she was scared for her life, and thought that all three of her family members were dead when her father finally left the house. Lyric eventually came around and was not happy to see what had happened. He cleaned up everything and told Aurora that no one would ever touch her again. That he would bury everyone, even their father that had been found out in the barn with a snapped neck. At this point she was silent for years, only speaking at dinner, and eventually being more frightened when Lyric brought home Celest.

So begins...

Lyric nodded his head. He was hoping that one day the two of them would get along, but even after six years, Aurora still did not speak to Celest very often. At dinner she started to open up lately, talking to Lyric once more, but would not say much to the woman that was sharing the house. He took in a deep breath. "I hope so too. I fear that if she doesn't warm up to someone else then she'll never have a chance in this life," he stated, looking the ranch house over before seeing his sister in the garden. Her short dark hair ruffling up in the wind as she moved about the lilies with ease. It was not often that he would actually spot her in the garden, but today they were coming home a bit early.

"Aurora," Lyric called out to her once they were even closer to the great oak that stood right outside the lovely white and brown home. The girl looked up with her deep sunken in grey eyes and a small smile played on her lips. Today she was wearing a lovely blue bow, which apposed the usual bright red in her dark hair. She stood up and then held out a silvery white and blue envelope with some gold on it.

"Mail..." she said timidly, looking at her brother and doing a quick glance toward Celest before holding it out toward her. "For you both..." she parted it so that there were two invites.

~*~*~*~*~*~

"Lilly," he grasped her hand before she could swipe it away and then brushed his lips against the back. "It has been a pleasure meeting you Miss Rinn. I will pick you up for the ball in a few days. The invites will be coming out soon." He smirked when he saw the blush on her face once more. "Good-day." He added before pulling away from her and fading into the crowded street heading home. He then looked over the invites that had been made up.

"Where have you been?" his mother asked, walking into the study room he claimed.

"Finding a date to the dance, Mother. I think you'll like her." Nathaniel stated, when he approved the invites and added one more address to a Miss Lilly Rinn. His mother just looked him up and down and shook her head. He chuckled and watched as the maids moved away taking all the invites and heading out into the world to deliver them. All of the deliveries were soon made, with one maid waiting patiently on Lilly Rinn's door as asked to hand deliver it to her personally.

She looked at Aurora and smiled softly. "Hello" She noticed the color of the bow was different and smiled a little brighter. "you picked a different color bow today it looked pretty." She kept her voice calm and friendly and tried to push to hard into a conversation. She blinked slightly and looked at the invitation. "oh..?" She reached out and carefully took the one with her name on it. "Its a ball invitation....." her hands shook softly and she turned it over to open it but stopped and decided to open it later. "so lyric im going to go up to my room for a moment ill be right back ok" She smiled softly before slipping away into the house.

She walked for a few moment before slipping into the room where she kept her things mostly things that she had acquired over the past six year and when she showed up she had what she was wearing her backpack and half a locket. She walked over to a desk putting the letter down as she sat. She reached over for her letter opener. She slipped open the letter hoping it was just going to be a simple letter.

(Each invite is personalized. So all the invite information is within this post. Thanks.)
Lyric smiled at his sister. "What does the blue bow mean?" Lyric asked, as he gently pulled the invite out of his sister's hands and then wrapped an arm around her shoulder. He watched as Celest quickly entered the house and went to her room. Perhaps she had something she wanted to get, or perhaps the invite was a little more than what she had expected.

"Joy," his sister brought his attention back to her. "I was having fun in the garden, and I'm not so sad today, I can only hope that means joy..." She snuggled into her brother's arms and then gently pulled away. "I must return, my plants are calling me. I hope you have fun at your... dance..." Aurora gave him a soft smile, so soft that it could almost be said to be a normal face, but Lyric knew better. His sister was actually happy for once. He then flipped the invite over and opened it to see what it said.

Sir Lyric Heartstring
You've been invited to the RavenCrest Family Ball this weekend.
We've heard great news about your writing abilities and this is
the first ball ever thrown by Nathaniel, the son of the Raven-
Crest family. We hope that you will accept.
Nathaniel RavenCrest

The journalist was pleased to see that his invite was basically an invitation for recording the ball down and reporting it to the world. He was excited to tell Celest that he had been invited with this in mind. He took in a deep breath and started into the house.

My Lovely Celest Hart
You've been invited to the RavenCrest Family Ball this weekend.
This is the first ball ever thrown by Nathaniel, son of the Raven-
Crest family. It has been asked that you sing a son in honor of
this new event accompanied by a piano. Please let us know.
Love, Nathaniel RavenCrest.

"Celest?" Lyric entered the house and put his invite on the front desk near the door, where they put most of their mail now. "Celest, everything alright in there?" he started toward their room. They had only started sharing a room a couple of months ago, but she still had her own room in case she needed some alone time. When he opened the door to their own room he noticed that she was not in there. "Celest?" he then knocked lightly on her door.

Sweet Lilly Rinn
You've been personally invited to the RavenCrest Family Ball
this weekend. It is a delight to offer you my side as a dance
partner and hope that you will stay with me throughout
the evening events. I look forward to seeing you on my arm.
Nathaniel RavenCrest.

Lyric shook his head. "No reason. Aurora is staying out in the garden for once. The RavenCrest family wants to report the event, because it is the first one thrown by their son Nathaniel." He gave her a happy smile and hugged her lightly. "What did your letter say?" he wondered, not sure if she would have gotten a personalized letter as well, or if it was similar to a normal invite just saying something about the event and that she was invited to join them.

"A song?" he repeated as she continued to talk about how they would need to go tux shopping and that her singing must not have been that great anymore because her practice has only resorted to the shower. He shook his head and chuckled. "Aurora even comments on how beautiful your singing is," Lyric stated, remembering the first time Celest was over heard in the shower. Aurora had fell in love with the voice, and would often sit outside the bathroom until the singing stopped, but Lyric would tell her that. It was kinda creepy.

"I think it will be great to have your voice out there again. I don't see why you shouldn't. Anyway," he thought about tuxes and dresses and smiled. "I have a tux, one that my father left me." He then went still for a moment, remembering his father, but he had always loved the tux. "Do you have a dress?" he asked her, not sure if she had bought anything worth the ball within the past six years. "Perhaps Aurora will go with you to find a dress?" he suggested, not sure if Aurora would be much help, but he was hoping his sister would get some more time outside of the attic and garden.

Lyric nodded, watching her wander away from him through the halls and out the front door. It seemed that the invitation had brought her back to the same emotional status she had been in when he asked her to stay at his house until she figured something else out. Of course within that amount of time he had fallen in love with the runaway and she returned that love enough to leave them together in the small house.

Deciding to give her some space, Lyric went into the kitchen to find out what his sister was making for dinner. She told him of her day in the garden and how all the flowers were feeling great. She also told him that she was making meatloaf and mashed potatoes for dinner. It was one of her favorite dishes, though Lyric would prefer steak. He took in a deep breath and started to set the table as dinner was finishing up. He heard the door open and close and glanced up. "Everything alright?" he asked.

Aurora glanced over at Lyric once more before turning around completely to grab some of the dinner and placed it on the counter-top closest to the table. Her eyes were scanning everything, a normal habit for her when she was thinking, before raising them back up to Celest. "That sounds alright..." her voice was soft. "I can play the piano, so that you can hear the song in that way while you sing it..." she added. Then thought a little more on the dress shopping. "I'm not good a shopping, but I'll try to help."

"Well that is nice of you, Aurora, to help her out..." Lyric said with a soft smile. "I'm glad to see you willing to leave the house tomorrow." He would thank Celest later for trying so hard these past six years to make his sister get out of the house, and now it seemed to work. She was actually going to try and go shopping with his woman. It also gave him the opportunity to do something he was meaning to do for some time. He just smiled though. "Is dinner ready then?" he asked.

"U-u-uh, yeah." Aurora nodded her head and turned the stove off. "It's done."

Lyric smiled at Celest's comment on Aurora's cooking, because his sister started to glow again when she placed everything on the table for everyone to eat. It was not often that he saw his sister so happy, unless the flowers were telling her good stories. He took his spot at the table. "That's why she cooks and I watch... we'd have burnt soup if I was cooking." He laughed and Aurora chuckled.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

"I was thinking back to my house. I have a room ready for you, and dinner should be just about ready for the two of us. The event is only a day or so away, so I figured you could stay until the event was over?" Nathaniel asked, watching her carefully as he started back toward town where they had met.

"I'm here all week. Because of the events going on this weekend. we have decided to wait until everything unfolds before we open up and work on the paper for next week. So I'm on vacation." Lyric smirked, knowing that this news would excite both the women in his life. Of course, Aurora perked up with a soft smile as she stared at her brother. It was not often that she heard her brother talk about breaks from the office where he worked very hard on is colorful articles, so it was great news to know that this week was free for her to capture some much needed alone time with the only living family member she had left. "You'll have to take turns though, seeing that there is only one of me." Lyric added, glancing from his sister to the love of his life.

Lyric nodded. "I guess you are right about that. perhaps I should spend a little more time with you, Aurora." he turned his bright emerald gaze to his sister after starting the conversation with his love. He gave her a bright smile to go with his lovely eyes. She nodded his head. "Horses then?" he asked, knowing her passion for the large beasts after what happened to their father. She found them a blessing from God to have taken out the worst evil in her life. "Great." Then he turned his attention to his love. "Perhaps you should take her out tomorrow though. I can take some time working with the horses while you are out on the town."

~*~*~*~*~*~

Nathaniel told the driver where to take them, and so they were off. He was not sure what to say to the woman. It would be rude to tell her anything about his past, or so he thought. Then he smiled at her gently. "so Lilly, what are your hobbies?" He hoped that the two of them would become very close by the weekend. Though he was sure his passion for Celest was still to strong to hold any true feelings next to him, but he did not let this show on his features.

Lyric gave her eyes of concern and worry along with happiness. He was happy that his sister was opening up, but he was worried for the reason. It was odd that his sister was so open and happy around the two of them. It was normally himself that had to work to get his sister in a good mood, but today was a good day. It was a miracle to see her like this.

Aurora tightened her grip on Celest's hand then lead her out the door and past the garden. Lyric followed behind them a bit. Then watched as the young woman opened a shed next to the garden that she had cleaned up and made into a small art room. A blank canvas was set up with colors surrounding it along with other paint utensils. "Do you like it?" she asked, looking at the paint room which over saw the pasture and the gardens.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

"I bet you have a beautiful voice," Nathaniel pulled his hand away from the locket and wrapped it around Lilly's hands. "Something as beautiful as you must have a voice to show." He added before they came up to his mansion. He opened her door for her and waited for her to get out. "We are here..." he mentioned.
