Description
Basishtir Narayanji is a grand old Djinn. Though his height is as variable as his mood, he naturally stands some eight feet high. His skin is a greyed, dusky purple; smooth and taut over a body massively muscled, as if magic itself bulges in his frame. His hair is a mess of black, somewhere between ringlets and waves- it reflects no light and roils and tosses in his fits. At times, however, it is bound behind him in a long tail with silver crimps. It peaks at the middle of his hairline and follows the edge of his face in short, curling sideburns. At the center of his very heavy jaw is an outwardly-curving goatee. His cheekbones are high and almost intolerably exotic, and the cheeks themselves hollow subtly. His lips are heavy and full, slightly darker than the rest of his skin; a familiar sensual shaping found on men of the Indies. His nose is bold and strong, bearing a pronounced arch that bows from his heavy brow. Dark, thick and perfectly angled eyebrows reside over wild eyes- they are large and almond-shaped, heavily lashed and lined with kohl. His irises are bright yellow with a shock of red around the edges.
Short, pointed ears are heavily adorned with hoops and dangling earrings of varying sizes, all silver. There are silver bands around the taut girth of his biceps, and at his forearms there are many more- so many that they form a cuff of sorts from his wrists to a couple inches shy of his elbow. His strong, thick digits are ringed as well, and tipped in sharp, curled nails. In his most natural form, Basisht has a smooth, thin tail also banded in rings, and walks on the feet of a beast, with clawed toes and a dewclaw. Silver drips from his neck and richly-patterned silks clothe him- although he prefers not to be fully clothed.
However, there are times where he must fit in. The Djinn can, when he must, assume the guise of a man. The hair and the shape of his face stay largely the same, though his locks turn blue-black and lustrous, and his skin a rich brown. The wild color of his eyes is subdued into a golden-hazel. Unlimited power means unlimited wealth in a way, and so he often appears well-dressed and successful, wearing fashionable button-ups of silk or linen, and well pressed slacks or contemporary men's jeans (although he certainly cannot stand pants to be too tight or stiff). Most of the jewelry stays.
Personality
Basisht is ...very hard to predict. He can obsess over a person or thing, and is often swept up in a sudden zest or vigor for some very specific aspect of life. Or perhaps the intricate carving on a FabergΓ© egg. Or perhaps a baby, or an instrument. He is just as likely to be pushed into a livid, nonsensical rage, and can be exceedingly difficult to calm if not distracted. He enjoys being in a situation where he can show his powers off, generating heaps of gems, making himself as big as the sky, curing the ill, etc. And at his most mellow, he is actually quite charming, forthright and affectionate.
History
Kept in a blown-glass oil lamp of tyrian purple, this Djinn has existed for thousands of years, since Man was given the ability to best the Old Children. Djinn are among the early kind, pre-Man, like the Angels. Yet when Yaweh's power grew along with his popularity, the origin of the Djinn along with the ways of the more bull-headed Angels was erased. Basisht has lain dormant for far too long, only having been let out a few times within the last millennium.
