Malakai has lighter coloring than someone controlling night would be imagined to look like. His hair is a silvery white which he keeps short, save for his bangs, framing his face nicely. His skin is fair and probably paler than it should even for someone used to wandering the night, considering he's been trapped within his castle for years now; any color he would have gained lost in his confinement. His eyes are a pale grey that seem to take on various hues of color depending on the light. Though he is a handsome young man, his lips seem to carry a perpetual look of neutrality or arrogance. This mostly stems from the fact that the ones he trusted betrayed him. Joy has lost its meaning and there is far too much to do to think about the niceties of life. Though yet young, there is an age and weariness now haunting his gaze for his willingness to trust and see the good in others has melted away. He does carry a physical scar over his left eye where he was struck by one of the lords' attacks.

The lord of night often sports dark colored clothing as well. The night is generally colder so he is rarely without long sleeves and a cloak but his style of clothing serves another purpose as well. The dark hues help him blend into the shadow and the thick layer of his coat adds protection to his extremities, should one of his people get a little over excited and try nibbling on his arms. And some of the creatures that live about his land have claws so anything that perches on him would have less of a chance to actually pierce his skin when they land on his waiting arm. The cape itself also adds another dimension of camouflage as it obscures his shape. Probably unknown by the other lords, but he also is never with chain mail. Unlike what they may be used to seeing, it is made from spider silk and reinforced with a light metal. It provides flexibility as well as defense and allows him to wear it underneath any sort of clothes without all the rattling regular chain mail produces. It is also light weight so he had no fear of drowning in it should he end up in a body of water.

There is beauty in the darkness too. It is where mystery comes from.

âœĨPersonalityâœĨ
Compassionate ♠ Logical ♠ Confident ♠ feisty ♠ Berserker ♠ Passionate

Though Malakai embodies the element of darkness and he leads a realm of night and 'monsters' that go bump in the night, Malakai had been a very lighthearted person. He wasn't the most social of the lords, preferring to sit in the background and listen to the discussions and only spoke up when he felt he had something to offer. He wasn't one to give in to boasting or passing around gossip but he didn't mind lending an ear to it. His people had often considered him a good listener. Whenever they had problems, they went to him and regardless of what it was, Malakai would sit on his throne and listen. He had a knack for finding different ways to solve problems and sometimes, people just needed to rant. He also knew full well that his people were often judged and misunderstood so making them feel welcome in his court was a priority. His subjects were his family and he earned the respect and love of his people rather quickly. He was stern with his people when he needed to be, setting down laws to protect the other courts by creating save zones and pathways where his people were not to harm or hunt. If he was not obeyed, he gave them a punishment equal to whatever crime they'd committed. He rare executed people, but his prisons did a pretty good job as a deterrent. Most of his people hate confinement of any sort and here Malakai engaged in problem solving, finding out the reasons why they disobeyed and how to prevent it from happening again. Only if someone was a constant repeat offender would Malakai consider execution for the worst of crimes. He rarely had to go that far.

As for the other lords, they may have taken his silence as arrogance, but Malakai just doesn't like to make snap decisions without considering all the possibilities at hand. He is confident in his abilities and powers, yes, and he knows the limits of his strength, but he was never one to think he was above the other lords. Everyone had their role to fill and he was happy with his. He'd never wanted anything above what he had. Whenever someone needed aid, he would be the first to volunteer. Generally speaking, if there was a war, he would offer his power to create an army of shadows to fight the wars or keep the peace. He created creatures out of the darkness to protect areas and fend of bandits. He has a strong moral sense and helping others was always the priority. His powers were dark, and the creature he created ghastly, but he wasn't evil.

Though kind off the battle field, he did gain a reputation of being ruthless when fighting. He would use anything at his disposal and since he could create any sort of weapon he wanted out of the shadows, he was quite menacing. A part of the darkness is battle lust and once entering a fight, Malakai becomes a berserker, howling and laughing in the face of danger and death. Certainly this craze made him out to be a person who reveled in death, but it was not his core. It was more a lust for battle than it was for blood. Malakai never regretted what he did on the field, but once the losing side surrendered, he'd become his compassionate self again and care for the soldiers of both sides equally. He never judged anyone. Everyone had their motives after all.

Malakai however changed after he was betrayed. He'd given the other lords his trust, his friendship, his loyalty, even putting their concern above his own. When they came into his castle on that friendship's due and turned on him, he was stunned in his heartbreak; especially the betrayal of Lady Asaph. He didn't call on his servants to protect him from the lords. He tried to make them see reason. He even held back his blows for fear of hurting the lords. He had hoped that they would realize their folly. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. They struck him, all intent to lock him away. From that moment, his sorrow intensified and he has had years to think about that moment; to hear about the wasteland his land had become without him from his subjects that whispered in his ear. The pain and sorrow compounded with anger and helplessness. His friends had done this to him and his people.

He knew if they could have, they would have killed him to be rid of him. He would potentially be stuck immobile till the magic released him some how or he died. It led him to despair, his mind racing in its captivity. Like his people, the thought of confinement was suffocating and not only was he confined to a room, but confined in his own un-moving body. It broke him. Something deep inside broke in this torture, for that is what it was at this point, and that gentle heart began to harden in his confinement. The lords would woe the day they betrayed him. Malakai has a deep seeded ache for revenge. They'd locked him away in fear of what he would do; well, in locking him away, they have pushed him closer to that dark edge. When released, who knows exactly what will wake because it won't be the same lord of Night that they trapped int he first place. Madness, rage, hatred.... who knows which will claim his heart and mind?

┍━━━X Enjoys X ━━━┑

áƒĻ Nightly strolls - Malakai enjoys taking a walk around in his territory at night and see how everyone is fairing around him and if anyone needs help. There is also a sense of calm in the night.
áƒĻ Helping - As mentioned before, Malakai enjoys offering a helping hand and genuinely enjoys being around others even if he is pretty quiet.
áƒĻ Reading - Malakai is an introverted person. He enjoys a little quiet time with a book in his hands and learning about the rules and practicies of other lands.
áƒĻ Spiders - He has a soft spot for spiders... surprisingly. They are beautiful creatures who are often misunderstood. They are artists and they help by eating other insects. Of course the spiders of his realm are giants, the size of a horses, but still.

┍━━━X Despises X ━━━┑

⚔Cruelty/torture - There is no reason for anyone to behave this way towards someone else. On and off the field. He would never torture anyone, even in his berserk rage.
⚔Liars - He is a very upfront person so he hates it when people lie. He doesn't white wash anything.
⚔Indecisiveness - If you have something to say, say it. Something to do, do it. Patience is one thing,
but going back forth and never actually doing anything is just a huge pet peeve of his.

⚔Blaming - He hates it when people blame others for their problems. People make things more challenging, but blaming them won't make the problem go away.
⚔Judgmental people - There is no reason to judge others if you don't really known them. That just closes you off from being friends with someone who just has a different view.

✔Shadows - like the others who can create weapons from their elements, Malakai can create weapons out of his shadows, but he can also create an army of Shades. They will fight like any regular person, reducing the need for real soldiers to give their life. The catch is, light destroys them. They are far more terrifying at night.
✔ Rationality - usually he has a pretty clear head and can look at the various options before making a decision.
✔ Berserker - in a battle, he fades into a berserk rage, making him a formidable opponent, howling and laughing.
✔ Sword fighting - he is an excellent swordsman. Let's just say you wouldn't want to be his enemy in a fight.

┍━━━X Limitations X ━━━┑
✖ Light - Without shadows, his power is weakened. His power is based on darkness so he is weakest during the day or where there is no shade.
✖Trust - He is a trusting person, seeing the good in people first which has led him to his current predicament where he suffers because of that trust.
✖ Lady Asaph - The other lords do not know it, but he and Asaph had a relationship before they attacked him. He did not fight against her because he loved her. Her betrayal hurt the worst for the young lord. Though his heart has hardened he may yet have a sore spot for her.
✖ Berserk - In his rage, he doesn't think clearly and he can earn grave wounds he won't realize he has until it is too late. Rushing into battle often leaves him with scars.

┍━━━X Fears X ━━━┑
â˜Ŗ Solitary confinement - He's been in solitary confinement for years now, so he's developed a fear of being alone and forgotten.
â˜Ŗ Failure - He takes his responsibility to his people very seriously and he fears letting them down. Thus far, he's been unable to protect them and provide for them as he should have.
â˜Ŗ Betrayal - He's been betrayed by everyone he trusted, why wouldn't he fear being betrayed again?
â˜Ŗ Paralyses- Again, thanks to his solitary confinement, he fears being rendered immobile again, wake and alive in still form, unable to speak or move. It is enough to send him into a panic attack.

Malakai is the Lord of Night and as such, he rules from the darkness and all the creatures that reside in shadow. This includes creatures like werewolves, giant spiders, vampires and Nightmares, among other things. He is more than content to rule over these strange and beautiful creatures. His world thrived and he did his best to provide for them. He did favors for the other lords when they needed help, otherwise he remained within his realm. The lords of night before him have generally been born outside of the territory itself and brought in to be a lord. As such, they've generally had the same views as the other elemental lords. His predecessors tended to wake during the day and venture more frequently from the land. Malakai on the other hand, had been born in the Night Court and was raised there so he feels a great kinship with the land and its people. He usually remained in his territory unless needed elsewhere, and like his people, more often was wake at night, save for when the lords called on him. Then one day, the Lady of Day ventured into his territory and after saving her from the Night crawlers, Malakai brought her into his home. The two became fast friends, finding that their power and personalities balanced each other out. Over the years he became closer with Lady Asaph and the two eventually fell in love. They kept their love secret from the other lords, not considering it something they needed to know.

Malakai truly believed that Asaph understood him at a level that the others would never be able to grasp. True he trusted them and helped them, but he could tell there was a disconnect. They didn't really understand his power or his people. The things he created from shadows had no limits save for his imagination and it must have terrified the lords. His imagination ran 'creepier' than theirs after all. But, he did his best to show that though his people looked like monsters, had a bad reputation, they weren't really as bad as they thought. Unfortunately, there was little he could do to assuage their fear, especially if they saw his berserk craze on the battlefield. He couldn't control himself in those moments which only made the lords fear more.

And so, the other lords devised a plan to lock him away. They couldn't kill the Lord of Night because if they did, night and shadow would no longer exist. Things would die from the unrelenting heat and light. Nothing would be able to rest. So they figured out that if they all used their powers together, they could put Malakai into a eternal slumber. With all the elements against one, it would be strong enough to hold through the ages without fear that Malakai could break through or weaken the magic. But that also meant that they needed the power of Day. Day directly canceled Night and nothing would hold without Day. So they approached Asaph with their plan and plea. Eventually, they convinced her of Malakai's evil core and they went to the Night Court under the pretense of friendly visitation. Considering the lords his friends and seeing his lover beside them, Malakai dropped his guard and sent away his warriors, considering himself safe.

Then, the lords betrayed him. They attacked him, full intending to lock him away. Malakai was shocked and hurt when they turned on him. For most of the fight he deflected their blows as he pleaded for them to see reason. He feared for his life but a part of him believed that they'd come to their senses and that Asaph would side with him, stopping them from what they were doing. She understood him after all. She spent moonlit nights with him and he shinning days with her. She had to know, to understand. Then the final strike came; from her hand. His shadows dropped, rendering him defenseless as the love of his life lashed out at him, scaring him for his love and struck him against the the wall where Serrai's branches held him. Malakai watched stunned and hurt as she sealed him away; his body immobilized by the magic holding him in place. His mind however did not fade into sleep, so he had been aware of everything that has happened around him and to his people. His followers whispered the stories of how his territory had slowly gone to ruin. No mater what Malakai tries with his own power, he cannot lift the magic that holds him in place against the wall and is rendered helpless as his mind wanders.

Malakai has had plenty of time to ruminate on his pain and anger. He wants his vengeance on those he had once called brothers and sisters, and lover. He had been wrongly accused and his despair and anger are starting to get the best of his him and his heart. He wants someone to bleed and feel the agony he had been forced to suffer, a desire that would have been alien to him before. Strictly speaking, his ire is directed at Fay, who instigated it all and started the onslaught. She warned that he was evil, that he couldn't control his people and he would destroy the other territories. Well, if he ever got free, he'd show her the monster he could be and how it was her doing that unleashed it.

The world was cold and dark, but it had been cold and dark for a very long time at this point. He and Malakai, the Lord of Night, remained in Navyn after all. Aroian didn't mind it too much, considering it matched his realm. He was used to the frozen world and often times, the sun wouldn't shine there for days. And considering his power was over water and ice, he was rarely cold himself. If he only had to care for his territory of Avali, he wouldn't have bothered with this whole mess, or so he told himself. As it was however, being an elemental lord meant he had to be concerned with the whole of Navyn and he had to face the facts; without summer, spring, fall, and day, the world was dying. Crops couldn't grow like this and even if his people would survive longer, they would need the harvest too. And even if that hadn't been a concern, the other courts, save for the dark court, had been taken over by the 'Saviors'.

Aroian's usually impassive features turned into a distasteful sneer. Those fanatical priest who should have been loyal to the balance of Navyn had tossed the world into the chaos. They had cast the other lords to some place called 'Earth', truly a brilliant name that one, might as well call it dirt or soil or something else unimaginative and obvious. If that wasn't bad enough, the 'Saviors' imprisoned him for 2 years before he managed to get out of their dungeon. It was truly a slap in the face and a mockery of his ability and title, and he was not about to let the wound to his pride stand. They should have never had enough power to imprison a Lord. It was why they had needed all of the elemental lords to imprison Malakai. Regretible deciion though it was now, maybe it had been a good thing. He was sure the Saviors would have cast Malakai to Earth and let Lady Asaph remain. If that had happened, the world would have relentless day instead of night and everything would have been worse. The sun would burn everything. At least with night things somewhat had a chance to regrow once they fixed the seasons.

The lord of winter shook his had, the bright and frosted strands of his hair falling forward around his face and dismantled the snowflakes that had fallen delicately on his head. He needed to stop letting his mind wander to the past. He had a task to do and finally after 5 long years, the priests still loyal to him and the other lords were ready to bring back the other lords from Earth. He'd lent them his power and all the resources that they had required but it still had taken so long to find the spell that would bring them back, and then even longer to gather up enough power to do it. It was testament to how long the Saviors had been plotting their treachery. The other lords had better thank him for this. Of course he wouldn't do anything if they didn't, but it would be nice to have a little gratitude.

Aroian made the small trek out of his tent towards the edge of the wide sea. Currently it was blanketed with ice and snow. If one wasn't careful, they would venture out onto it and be lost for days trying to figure out where they where. All around the bank priests were milling about with their preparations. They all wore thick fur coats, gloves, hats, anything to keep the chill from seeping into their bones. Most were huddled around the fires they'd started. Aroian himself simply wore his royal uniform; a thin silk a rich dark blue and stitched with silver thread. All around the collar, hands and seams were delicately woven snow flakes as a representation of his element. He stopped walking once he reached the edge of the camp, beside the head priest's tent. He settled a gloved hand on his hip, his frosted gaze taking in the scene.

He gave a tired sigh. All of this and their work would have only really just begun. Just bringing the lords back wouldn't solve their problems. He knew that once the lords got here, the seasons would start trying to balance themselves out again and the Saviors would immediately be alerted that the lords were back. The saviors would be after them again and he didn't want them to succeed and make things worse. So, so much to do. And how wonderful it was that he had to be in charge of it all. The other lords would have no idea what was happening here. Fay would probably want to charge the Saviors right from the get-go and he'd have to reign her back. He'd never been one to want to be in charge of everything. Too much work and ankle biting, not that he was lazy or anything. He just really hated dealing with back talk and lengthy explanations. Everyone always wanted things their way or had some objection. He turned towards the tent and gave one of the support beams a knock before he entered. The immediate warmth he felt wrapping around him inside the tent made him shudder. It was suffocating for him but necessary for the priest.

"Priest Daurin, how goes the preparation for the spell? Will we be ready soon?" he asked the priest who was leafing through one of his books.

"Yes, my lord. We are actually ready. I just wanted one last read through the incantation. We have to make sure we are absolutely correct in all of the nuances and hand gestures. If you are ready, I'll call the other priests to start their line up."

"Yes. Let's get this over with. We have a lot to get done and not a lot of time to do it." Aroian left the tent with the priest trailing behind. He heard the priest calling to his fellows to take their places as he walked straight for the edge of the water. As the incantation started, he took a deep breath and closed his eyes. He extended his hands on either side and called up his power. The earth started to quake as the ice split on top of the water. He cleared a path of the ice so that the other lords wouldn't be trapped beneath the ice when they got here and drown. For whatever reason, the spell could pull the lords through the water more easily than any other venue. The lords were going to be freezing when they got here. He chuckled lightly at the image of the lords falling over themselves like baby leopard seals at the water's edge.

"Well...I hope this works. Come home," he called out softly into the expanse that surrounded them. "Navyn needs you." He'd never admit it to any of them, but he did care about his brethren and he missed them too, annoying as they were. He had an image of indifference he had to keep up after all. Wouldn't do to have them think he'd gone soft and 'warm'. They were like siblings you hated but couldn't help but love and tease. He really hoped that they had been safe on Earth and that the Saviors didn't do something hurt them.
