Adrian Ives

Federation Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel - Commander of the F.S.S. Legacy and its crew

0 · 707 views · located in Arcturus System

a character in “Nebula's Dawn: Lance of Liberty”, as played by VindicatedPurpose

Description

"Everyone, keep calm, and we'll get to go home when this is over. Fear is what kills us, get a hold of it, conquer it, and maybe you'll live to see the next day."

Name (With Preferred Pronunciation): Adrian Ives (Ay-dree-an Eye-vs)

Age: 30

Place of Birth: Earth, Sol System

Gender: Male

Occupation: Federation Armed Forces - Marine Corps: Commander of the F.S.S. Legacy and its crew

Rank (If Applicable): Lieutenant Colonel

Appearance: Adrian seems to be the ideal soldier in terms of height, and weight. His facial features aren't any less impressive, with a fairly drawn jaw and neat stubble. His brownish black hair is always kept at a buzz cut like that of the standard Federation Marine. Adrian's white skin color reflects his Caucasian bloodlines. Oddly enough, his eyebrows are almost like giant arcs above his brown eyes. Whenever he is aboard his ship, he's often seen in personal garb, mainly a jacket, shirt, and form fitting jump suit pants. When in the field, he will either dress in a disguise to infiltrate a crowd, or adorn his personal combat armor with multiple LED light strips running along his legs and arms, and nodes situated on his shoulder and chest.

Height: 6 ft.

Weight: 161 lbs.

Personality

General: Adrian speaks with a gentlemanly English accent, one that he uses often as a diplomat to settle disputes between squad mates. He's a conventional soldier despite being a commando that has to rely on unconventional tactics. Somehow, this managed to mix well with Adrian. He is what many would call mild-mannered and soft spoken for a soldier. Yet, when the time demands, he rises to the occasion, and has proven himself a capable leader.

Aside from this, many soldiers would refer to him as their friend more so than a commander, but they would still obey his commands regardless. Adrian is a task oriented soldier, often completing missions that he is given. A comrade once asked Adrian "what makes a great soldier, is it his brain or his heart?" to which Adrian replied, "His heart."

Adrian was not physically gifted when he was born and he had to work hard to build himself up. Prior to joining the Marines he was a skinny and lanky fellow, who could have been mistaken for a twig, as ridiculous as that may sound. It was when he joined the Marines that he realized he had to get himself into shape in order to survive.

It was his drive to succeed, that mental ability, which allowed him to conquer his physical shortcomings and ultimately craft himself into the man that Marines see before them now. Though he's passed revenge as a motivation, claiming honor and duty to be his utmost priorities, there is a certain prejudice that he has had for people who support the insurgency. It is a personal anger that is derived from his father's death.

Likes: Cleaning his suit of armor, On the ground and moving, organization

Dislikes/Phobias: Failing to complete a mission, Fear of failing his squad mates

Quirks/Idiosyncrasies: He's a perfectionist, but he doesn't like to admit it.

History

Adrian was born on Earth, most likely in the British Isles, where his accent originated. He was born to a wealthy family, and ever since he was born a genetic defect has left Adrian with a constantly shaking right hand. This physical ineptitude was what led Adrian to pursue an intellectual career in order to find a cure for this ailment.

Prior to joining the Marines, he was studying medicine at Cambridge University. That was when his father was killed in the Eyvo Incident, where a number of wealthy and prominent businessmen were targeted and killed by insurgents because they supported the Federation, mainly through their money. Their money allowed them to gain affluence with the Federation Congress, which drew heat from the political body, to their notable supporters.

Adrian abandoned his studies and quickly joined the Marines, the "war effort" as they claimed, mainly for revenge. He brought with him his work ethic, despite his physical weaknesses which he tried hard to pry and overcome. The physical training regimen of the marines was what strengthened his body. This alone allowed him to survive the rigorous competition at the annual Marine summit and become a top contender to join Special Operations, after he was chosen by his recruiters.

They saw the potential which Adrian had, but they wanted to test him further and push him to his limits, thus they placed him in the 201st Orbital Deployment Assault Marines, a special operations capable unit. From there he rose to become the second in command of his squad, despite his mild-mannered personality. It was the completionist, and perhaps the perfectionist within him that brought him to such heights. That was when the slumps came in, and he began to be passed for promotions. Though normally a calm person, there was a bit of resentment in his eyes, many of his squad mates and even his squad captain, Garret Mond, knew.

Eventually, he was then promoted to the position of squad captain of a unit in the 572nd ODA, after the previous squad captain was killed in action against insurgents. Among his squad mates, was a fellow by the name of Nathan Crane, whom he became close friends with. Despite being in the service for a long time, Adrian had his share of "romances," if one could call it that. Most often ended with a mutual breaking off of relations because both parties had to answer the call of duty. For Adrian, Nathan became sort of a confidante, a right hand man, and even wing man.

Then the insurgency came about once more in the Middle Rims, and Adrian's squad was deployed for tactical support, and they were then noticed and selected to become a part of a field of candidates to pass Special Operations capable units and into Special Operations units. Adrian and Nathan were chosen to accompany Kaze Maxwell and crew aboard the Victus.

After serving with Maxwell's team for a period of time, Adrian was promoted once more and assigned to his own ship the Legacy, a newly built stealth frigate. Among the people he selected to be among his crew, he chose Nathan, although someone else was already SiC. It didn't matter as long they fought together. Immediately afterwards, they were given an assignment by a Director of Joint Special Operations Command, Vice Admiral Fontaine, which involved a mission to the Arcturus System.

So begins...

Two weeks before the Salient's arrival in the Arcturus System
Aboard the F.S.S. Legacy

The crew was gathered in the briefing room, which wasn't as cramped as many thought it would be. There was some comfortable leg room, as they all sat around the elongated oval metallic table at the center of the room. In the middle of the table was a projector propped up via a tripod extending from the table itself. The projector belonged to the table, and once a presentation was over, it would slide back into the table's center, as metallic folds enveloped and hid the device.

Adrian sat at the very of the oval table, in his captain's seat, he was giving the briefing. That was of course going to come up after Admiral Fontaine had finished his communique with the team.

The Admiral's wrinked face, bald head with hair that stood like little white needles, spoke to them, as they watched him on the screen. The feed was displaying his office, which was located aboard Senecis Station. Senecis Station, located somewhere in the Feranel system and Nathan's home system, was primarily a military outpost, unlike Iridosis Station. Senecis was a training ground, a command center, a defensive orbital cannon platform, and at present moment, an office for Joint Special Operations Command. It orbited the planet of Ekara Prime, a temperate world with conditions quite similar to Earth's. His office had large plexi glass view ports extending from the floor to the top of the ceiling. Beyond the plexi glass windows was the planet that the Station orbited. From what they could gather, his office was spacious, and like their briefing room, dark and unlit. Except for the natural lighting provided by the reflection of the system's sun off of a planet's atmosphere.

"Once you enter the system, stay clear of other Federation forces, and do not let anyone detect your presence, understand?"

"Yes sir, I have a question, will there be other frigate teams like ourselves, there?"

"No," the Admiral replied quickly, and tacitly, not alluding to anything.

"I understand Admiral, we will complete our mission to the best of our ability."

"Good, that's what I like to hear. Good luck and Godspeed Commander Ives." the Admiral closed the communique, at which point Adrian stepped up and re-activated the projector.

"Alright people," he spoke in a commanding, yet smooth voice, "Our objective is two-fold, gather intelligence and report to command on the insurgency's movements, and then proceed to search and destroy such units that are deemed a threat."

"Deemed a threat? I thought all the innies were a threat?" Nathan spoke up first. 'Innies' was a derogatory term for insurgents, a nickname established so that people wouldn't have to say the entire word, just like Krauts and Tojos for the Germans and Japanese in World War II, and VC for the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War.

"They are, but some are more of a threat than others." Adrian stated.

"What? You lost me, man." Nathan was perplexed.

"Strategically speaking, we're not out to hunt the rag tag groups, we're trying to hit them where it hurts, to put it your way." Adrian replied.

"Ah," Nathan nodded in confirmation.

"Alright, squad, that's all for today, get back to your stations, we have to make it to the system by the end of this week."

The meeting room was quiet as the admiral went into his little talk about what was going on out in the big blue world. Serina chuckled to herself before propping her feet up on the table and watch the mouth move and move. He was going to beat the band this time.... she thought to herself before pulling out her data pad and scrolling through it. The pad brought up detailed views of routes and maps of the planet they were heading to. She bit her lip silently look up the planets recent history, there was event after event of sectarian tension. It was like a hornets nest about to explode. She listen as the admiral went on with the usual speech, before finally concluding it. She watched as Adrian turned on the project and started to talk.

"Alright people," he spoke in a commanding, yet smooth voice, "Our objective is two-fold, gather intelligence and report to command on the insurgency's movements, and then proceed to search and destroy such units that are deemed a threat."

Serina nodded before taking a sip of her coffee on the table before looking back up when Nathan started up.

Serina looked up at the first bit "He's right captain after what they've done.....It would not be wise to blow the small ones off as if they were so every day rebels, they're the backbone of the whole thing." She sat back and allowed the captain to explain himself some more before he dismissed them. She the stood up brushing off and moved her way to her station, it was going to be a long trip.

Two weeks before the Salient's arrival in the Arcturus System
Aboard the F.S.S. Legacy

Nathan was in the stealth frigate's armory, he was inspecting, or rather scouting for a pistol to his liking. He gripped one in his hands, as he held it before him while he closed one of his eyes. He was pretending there was a target to be shot. He pulled the trigger, but nothing happened. It was standard protocol that weapons were not pre-loaded with a magazine.

Nathan continued sifting through the other hand guns in the armory, part of him was searching for something usable, the other part was searching for a...fashion statement...oddly enough. Nathan rose from his kneeled position, intent on finding a fitting weapon, but until then, he decided to report to the bridge.

Adrian, was in the Bridge, standing at the helm, overseeing the bridge crew, while they monitored the system. The Commander noticed Nathan's arrival, to whom he nodded. A large holographic image of the planet of New Sidney was brought forth to display. It was a three dimensional render of the planet that was off the Legacy's starboard side.

"We just arrived in the Arcturus System, it will not be long before we deploy." Adrian stated.

"I suppose we should get suited?" Nathan asked.

"No, we'll maintain orbital observations of the planet first," Adrian replied, statistical readings popped up beside the holographic display, "I want to watch this closely before we jump in. We have to minimize casualties, as a special operations force."

"Got it, chief." Nathan sat at his station in the bridge.

"Would you like up to the minute reports sent to your communicator, Commander?" the A.I. unit known as T.A.U. spoke up.

The A.I. was a holographic projection appearing beside Adrian, its orange flames flickered constantly.

"No that won't be necessary, T.A.U., I wouldn't want my communicator to be flooded by the minute..."

"With useless information like another baby being born," Nathan added.

Adrian glanced at the operative, "Let's maintain surveillance, and then we'll make our next move."
