Alice

It was morning and the ramen shop aka the base for the neet detectives were almost open. Everything was dark, and the sun slowly rose. As the sun rose a window on the second floor seemed to let out some light. In that room, various of computar and TV screens were against the wall, and the screens produced a white hue in the room slowly getting stronger as they booted up. A girl layed in the middle of the room on her bed, her black hair sprawled out. She stared at the wall, before getting up and going to another room connected to this one.

In the other room was a laundry machine and a fridge. She opened it and took out a Dr. Pepper and a box of pocky. She then walked back to the computar room, and plopped onto the end of the bed. In front of her was a white keyboard hooked up to three of the computar screens. She slid out a pink pocky and placed it between her mouth. When the three computar screens booted up completly, it said, "Welcome Alice." Alice muched on the pocky and begin to type on the keyboard. Her fingers moved very fast that even the computar seemed to have trouble keeping up. Blue eyes roamed the screen until it stopped on one link. She moved her mouse, and clicked onto the link. It lead to a mystery happening at the highschool near by. Alice blinked a couple of times and sent the link to her Favorites for later. Picking up her large can of soda she begin to drink.

Kyoya was sitting in front of his desk, one hand on the computer keyboard, while the other scribbled something on paper. Light found its way inside the room through the small cracks in the blinds, but that was pretty much it. He had a cup of tea sitting on his desk, which had probably turned cold by now. Without removing his gaze from his work, he searched for the right cell phone as it started to ring.

"Hello?" he answered with his usual blunt tone. "Oh yes, hello. Is his Orihara-san?" a voice answered from the other line. Kyoya stopped what he was doing, finally putting his pen down. "And you are?" he asked, leaning back against his chair. "O-oh um. This is Yamamoto Itsuki..." With a small yawn, the teen got up from his seat and took a peek outside the window. "Ah... right, Yamamoto-san. Do you have the files?" Kyoya asked as he picked up the cup of tea. He sighed silently at the cold liquid, placing it back down.

"A-ah yes, yes, I do. I sent it through the e-mail... If that's okay..." he man answered, his voice trailing off. Kyoya smiled just a bit, "Mmm, that's fine. Thank you for the work Yamamoto-san," The two exchanged goodbyes, before he clicked his phone off. It always made him happy to get more information on recent cases. He sat himself down onto his chair once more and checked his email. Sure enough, the man had actually sent him what he was looking for.

With a simple click of his mouth, the files started to print. Stretching tiredly, Kyoya grabbed his cup, dumping the cold tea into the sink. He checked his watch for the time before walking of his room silently and fixing himself some coffee. Sometime it was hard to believe he was a high schooler. He didnt get much sleep over the past few days, but that never bothered him. Kyoya stretched, grabbing his hot coffee, and retreating back into his room. Taking a sip, he grabbed the printed files and started to look through them all. His eyes scanned each and every one of the papers, making sure to make note of anything that caught his interest.

He came to a stop when another email was sent. 'Dear Orihara-san, this is a case that I have forgotten to send.' There was a file attachment along with the message. Kyoya gave a disapproving look, but printed the file anyway. He took another sip of his coffee and raised his eyebrows. "Oh? A kidnapping case...?" he mumbled to himself. He really wasnt all that amused, but when he noticed this was happening at a high school not too far off, he decided to look into it a bit more later on.

Morning rays leaked through the blinds of Natsume’s window making him blink open an eye in protest at the suns rude awakening. Mumbling in complaint he fell out of his bed with an "umph" rubbing his head on the floor lazily before pulling up his thin body and sitting crossed legged with bleary eyes. "T-tea" he muttered still half asleep in his dream world, the moment the word came out of his mouth the sound of soft pitter pattering could be heard along with the clanking of a spoon and ding of a kettle in a room nearby.

Looking up at his door a small flap at the bottom then flickered in movement as a peculiar site to anyone unused to Natsume made its appearance. A robot with a sturdy round body eight small cameras inserted in the position of eyes along with eight flexible but strong steal legs crawled out of the flap, however two of those legs were held above its small round body carrying a small tea cup on a plate as it crawled towards Natsume.

Moving his hand to rub his eyes this time Natsume took the tea and mumbled a "Thank you" to his specially designed spider robot. The moment he took it the spider bot instantly took action to crawl up his leg then torso and settle on his shoulder. Sipping the warm flavoured tea Natsume yawned stretching out his free arm before stumbling up onto his two feet. Avoiding bits of broken machinery such as microwaves, T.V's, even cars as well as dozens of chips from phones and radio's scattered all over his floor, on his desk, and on his shelves on the wall Natsume made his tired way towards the en-suit bathroom placing down his tea along with spider bot before closing the door.

Turning on the high powered jets of his shower Natsume cleaned himself quickly the water bursting him to life as the heat woke him up considerably. Pulling a towel through his hair and shoving on a set of clothes involving his favourite baggy hoodie he picked up his spider bot again and made his way towards the door. At the letter box was a white envelope, picking it up he raised an eyebrow however the moment he saw Mizuho banking on it he through it away to no place in particular within his mums apartment. "See-ya mum!" he called out knowing she was at work before leaving the apartment eagerly.

After wondering down the streets of Japan and rounding a few corners Natsume looked up at a building he recognised with a smile. Going inside and up a number of stairs he vibrantly knocked on the door of Kyoya's residence with his usual signature knock since he often bothered the Neet Detective members at their houses mainly because Natsume hated being on his own. Not that he would ever tell anyone that.
"K-y-o-y-a-a-a-a" he spoke dragging out his name not bothering to use san "are you h-o-m-e-e-e-e?"

Kyoya ran his finger across the row of books, and pulled out the one that was labled 2009. He flipped through the pages looking for a specific article. Most of the books in his house were just a collection of article he put together. He was an organized person, keeping track of everything that happened throughout this world. Humans; they continued to amuse him. As soon as he closed the book shut, there was a loud knock on the door; a very familiar knock followed by a familiar voice. "Hmph, it's that idiot," he mumbled to himself.

Normally, Kyoya would simply ignore him. Natsume was always coming and going whenever he felt like it. It was quite irritating, but he had managed to get used to it. Besides, it wasnt like Natsume would stop bugging him, simply because he told him to. Maybe he should just move. Then again, he enjoyed living in his apartment building. It was one of the quietest places he knew. Surely, moving just because of one specific person would be time wasting. There was a reason why he left his family mansion in the first place.

Mumbling something under his breath, Kyoya stalked out of his room, closing the door behind him. He placed his coffee cup on the counter, and turned the TV. Then he opened the door for the other teen that was waiting outside his door, "Dont you have some place else to go?" he asked, leaving the door opened and retreating into the living room. This usually meant he was free to come inside, or just... leave.

He cracked his neck and flopped down onto the couch. Kyoya watched the news without much interest and tilted his head over to Natsume. It was true this boy got on his nerves once in a while, but he did have talent. It didnt hurt to have him around for a few... or maybe he was just using him as an excuse to take a rest from his work. "Anything you want to eat?" he asked, taking off his glasses and rubbing his eyes.

Natsume blew upwards at the flick of his black hair that had fallen into his eyes as he waited behind Kyoya's door for amusement, the moment it opened revealing the interior he knew far too well along with Kyoya's face Natsume burst into a lazy grin. "Not really, unless Alice is awake but I haven't been there yet, I may pop by later" meaning he most probably would.

The front door was left open as was usual for Kyoya, Natsume stepped inside pulling his hands out of his hoodie's pockets and kicked off his shoes for polietness before placing a hand on the door and shutting it himself. Seeing Kyoya crack his neck as he flopped on the couch was practically an invitation for Natsume to relax also, not that he would do anything other than laze around whilst at Kyoya's or anyone else's for that matter.

Kyoya was always a little stiff in Natsume's eyes, he barely relaxed and never took it just, easy, for a while. He was always up working on a new projects or phoning mysterious people he didn't know for various information. He was also quick to irriate aswell Natsume had noticed, but that didn't stop him from being persistent with him. Kyoya had eventually gotten used to him and he liked it when he let loose infront of him like he was now on the coach instead of locking himself away in his room like a hermit.

The spider bot Natsume carried crawled over his shoulder and hopped onto a nearby side table as it scurried over to explore Kyoya's apartment. "Sure, but only if you eat with me, you got any marshmallows?" he asked moving over to the coach to plop himself down beside Kyoya, as he did he got a closer look at the boy and frowned. "You stayed up all night again didn't you? Your eyes are red" he paused for a moment before tugging the corners of his lips into a floppy smile "Why don't you sleep here, I'll act as your pillow?" he then laughed holding up his hands in mercy before he got shouted at or worse ignored "Don't worry it was a joke, but you really should get some sleep" he grinned moving his arm over the arm of the couch.

"If that robot of yours looks through any of my private files, I'll destroy it," he warned, when he caught the little spider thing crawl around his apartment. "Marshmallows? What's with you and marshmallows?" he mumbled as he rubbed his temples. "I dont eat marshmallows......" Then again, Kyoya hardly ate. If anything, it was usually tea or coffee. He'll have a bite to eat sometimes, but that was pretty much it.

"You stayed up all night again didn't you? Your eyes are red" Kyoya raised his eyebrows, "It's... a usual thing," he mumbled in response. "Why don't you sleep here, I'll act as your pillow?" He stared blankly at the boy, clearly not amused at all. "Don't worry it was a joke, but you really should get some sleep." For once, Natsume was probably right. Getting no sleep wasnt all that healthy. But he couldnt help it. There too much information he had to sort out. "Maybe I'll sleep when you learn to stop bugging people," he said with a small, but rare smile.

Kyoya seemed to be just sitting there, resting his eyes before getting up. He rubbed his eyes once more and walked into the kitchen. He opened a cabinet, pulling out a bag of marshmallows. He poked his head out and tossed the boy what he wanted. "I'm going to start charging you for these marshmallows," he muttered. He seemed to be looking for something, until he grabbed a small bottle; eye drops. Kyoya gave one small drop to each eye, not that it really will help anyway. "If you're going to go visite Alice, I might as well tag along. There's a case that... kind of grabbed my interest. Only because it's happening right here and now,"

The day was waking – golden rays seeped through the closed curtains of Setsu’s closed bedroom window. It was morning already? Impossible… she had only just lied down. The girl sighed, pressing her hands to her eyes. Were they swollen? They probably were, seeing as they weren’t used to tears… but she had cried so much these past few days. Just thinking about the painful hours made her throat close up again, tears threatening to spill out of her eyes. She took in a deep breath and let out a sigh.

No more tears.

If all went well, after today, there would be no need for something as pointless as crying. Slowly getting to her feet, Setsu rubbed her eyes with the sleeve of her sweater. After a fruitless argument with the police the whole night long, she hadn’t bothered to change out of her clothes. She still wore the same yellow sweater and gray jeans as before. It was probably better that way since she wanted to get moving quickly.

She unfolded a paper from her pocket and skimmed over it – a map and address of where she had to go. It had taken her days to make her decision, but Setsu couldn’t wait any longer. The police had made it clear to her the night before that they didn’t plan to do anything more than they already did – even when it when there was a student’s life at stake. Even when there were countless students lives at stake, all they could say to her was, “We’re doing all we can.” Setsu didn’t want words. She wanted results. She wanted her best friend back safe and sound, to watch movies together again, to walk to school together again.

So she was going to look for help elsewhere.

“I wonder… if I can rely on them,” she mused to herself as she walked slowly down the stairs of her house. There had been rumors of a group of detectives floating around the internet, and Setsu had been desperate enough to grab at it. However, when the detectives were said to use a ramen shop as a base, how was she supposed to believe in them? She gave an absent wave to her mother in the kitchen on the way out the door – Setsu wasn’t hungry. How was she supposed to eat when her best friend could be… dead?

“No… think positive… still alive,” Setsu murmured, chiding herself for her negativity. “And these detectives can help me.” However, she couldn’t convince herself. Despite her usual overwhelming optimism, only terrifying ideas were invading her thoughts. What if it was already too late? Those depressing thoughts were why she finally decided to go to these detectives, ramen shop or not. Fishing her bicycle from shrubbery in the yard, Setsu glanced at the folded paper in her hand once again. She knew the general area around the shop pretty well – after all, she had lived in the city all her life. It’s just that she wasn’t really a fan of ramen, so she had never visited that particular shop.

Slipping onto the bicycle, she pushed with her feet, and she was off. The wind swept through her short black hair, and quickly dried the remnants of tears in her brown eyes. Setsu was off to find these detectives, and if they couldn’t help her… well, she’d just go find the kidnapper herself.

Natsume looked over to where his spider bot was, it was rustling through a biscuit tin or something, at least Natsume figured the tin had biscuits in. Shrugging he yawned not bothering to hold a hand to his mouth "Destroy it and you pay for it..." he muttered through the yawn so it was probably hard to understand.

Stretching his hands high above his head then he relaxed on the couch getting comfortable with a slight grin at Kyoya's expected reaction to his little joke "Marshmallows are my energy source thats all, besides that, if I didn't 'bug' you all the time you'd be on that computer or the phone without rest wouldn't you?" he picked up the T.V remote and began to channel flick.

His attention was drawn to the T.V screen when Kyoya threw the bag of marshmallows at him making him flinch at the surprise as they hit his back before turning around with a sloppy grin of enjoyment "Or you could just give me these marshmallows for free? Especially if you destroy my spider bot" he chuckled ripping it open and taking in the delicious smell that kept him going throughout the day. Popping one of the delicious soft treats into his mouth he moved his position on the couch so that his elbows leaned on the back of it so he could watch Kyoya. "If you don't like marshmallows why keep them?" he teased knowing the answer was probably to statisfy him for when he visited or to bribe him to make a spy device when one was needed.

"A case thats happening now?" instantly Natsume frowned, it was rare to get cases like that he wondered what it could be, and then sighed, he probably had to make more spy devices now. "I normally go to Alice's at 2 in the afternoon with some lunch to share since she never leaves that room of hers. If your coming you may aswell decide on what we're eating today" he rested his head on his arm nonchantly eating another marshmallow as Kyoya used some eyedrops.

"Marshmallows are my energy source thats all, besides that, if I didn't 'bug' you all the time you'd be on that computer or the phone without rest wouldn't you?" Leaning against the wall, Kyoya quickly searched for one of his cell phones. "That reminds me..." he muttered while dialing a number. A deep voice answered from the other line, asking what he wanted. "I was wondering if you knew anything about the recent kidnapping case. Yes the one going on in that high school. ..Hm, send the files. I prefer e-mail,"

"If you don't like marshmallows why keep them?" Kyoya clicked his phone off, "So you wouldnt come to my house and bug be about them.." he answered. Kyoya walked into the bathroom, somewhat being able to hear Natsume as he splashed some cold water on his face. "I dont care what we eat. Actually... some coffee is what I really need to go through the day," he answered, walking out with a towel around his neck.

He took a look at the time and retreated into his room to change. Kyoya grabbed a black button down shirt with jeans and fixed his hair. He walked back out and took a seat on the couch. "Do you even know what this case is about?" he asked.

Alice was laying on her bed, eyes closed as if she was thinking. Her eyes suddenly popped opened and she got back up. Clicking "Enter" on her keyboard, the screens went to life, and shone. She typed a passcode and a surveillance camerasappeared, which were made by Natsume himself. They showed the outside of the apartments and other places as well. Alice focus on one and continued to zoom. There was a moving figure with black hair. She zoomed in closer to see it was a girl riding her bike. She seemed to have red puffy eyes that were probably caused from crying. "Hmm.." Alice moved her mouse and clicked on her favorites to bring up the mystery. She looked over the info and looked back at the camera. "Well then.." Alice smiled and picked up her soda can. "Another mystery to solve." She lifted the can and took big gulps.
