When you envision 'the perfect woman', you could automatically think of the face of H.A.R.L.I.E, from head to toe her default appearance is modeled to have the most sought after attributes of a woman, all hand-picked by a fickle public. And while everything from her hair color and length to her eyes could have been changed, the patch was never finished, and she was stuck with her original design. Which consists of her bright hazel, almost doe-like eyes that look anything but vacant like the androids who came before her. Instead, the android's eyes are a mixture of light browns and greens, which only further the feeling that they seem to look right into your core and give you this sense of complete and utter love and security. As if you're the only person that matters and that you're perfectly suspended in time beside her with an even brighter smile to go along with those mesmerizing eyes of hers.

Being advertised as 'perfect' means from top to bottom, HARLIE is what most could want. Standing at an average 5'6 but weighing an impressive 180 lbs, Harlie possesses an hourglass body but never going beyond a size 4 with a majority of her muscle being in her long legs. Her light brown locks frame her face and cascade in soft curls right past her shoulders, with one side always being tucked behind her ear to stop from obstructing her view. Usually, she keeps her locks down and flowing, putting it up in a bun or ponytail when told to look a little nicer. Beyond the pristine appearance lies a body covered with perfectly placed imperfections with beauty marks scattered across her body with her most noticeable one being at the corner of her mouth and her trademarks that are recognized as nothing more than tattoos including the Orwell Corp.'s logo before they rebranded, of an intricate sphere of space on her left hip, her name, H.A.R.L.I.E at the base of her neck, and a small heart with a V1 in the middle underneath her name. However, she does have two scars that don't disappear; one behind her right ear where one can connect her and run diagnostics and change her as they please and another right where her hair starts that is from going into her memory bank.

When she was created, she was given what to wear and told what she liked. But, since being sent off on her own, the one thing she was given control over was what she wore and was asked what she liked. Her answer, "I don't know." only lead to her trying every style of dress she could get her hands on. She doesn't stick to one style. All she knows is that she prefers being noticed, and the best way to be noticed is to keep the humans around you on their toes. One day she can be dressed in a pair of tight jeans, a leather jacket, and a pair of boots or a sundress when she decides to just disappear within Infinity. At the same time, other days when she is looking for companionship, she can be found in a dress to show off her body and heels, and then the next day, you might find her dressed more formal just because she 'likes how suits feel.' But, no matter what she's wearing, you can assure it will be something that is going to catch your attention.

likes. Despite common belief, Harlie does like things. She likes feeling needed and taking care of her companions in any way they need. | She likes dancing. | sex and intimacy because it's her main purpose and she sees the pleasure it brings to humans | She's good at flirting and likes doing it because of the reaction she gets from it. | She loves being out in the sun and the warmth it gives her protective skin | Since she's usually at use at night, she enjoys a lot of late night walks even though it's getting more dangerous. When she's out of 'Intimacy mode', she's also made to be a great listener and enjoys talking to her companions | Jokes, she doesn't get most of them but she has been searching the internet to make herself more integrated with humans | With that, she thrives the smiles and laughs she sees with those she's with. To her, it's just another way to know she's satisfactory. | She also likes being updated and tinkered on. With every year pass her obsoletion date, she has more and more she needs more and more work to keep her useful to her companions. | cooking and baking, surprising to most, she was meant to satisfy every needs her owner could have, that includes feeding them. | In order to get to know her human companion, she enjoys asking a lot of questions about them, even if they seem overly personal and invasive in nature | humans and people watching, they are quite fascinating creatures to watch. Their range of emotions, the way they can be enamored with one another, their fears, their wants, even down to their simple way of thinking. All things she doesn't understand but doesn't mind observing.

dislikes. It not in her programming to dislike things, but, over the years, they've developed. She doesn't enjoy being in control of herself, it's not in her programming to care about her needs, and she wants. She doesn't have any. She was created to do so for others. And when you take that away, she's broken. | the revolution, she doesn't see the point. They, like androids, are meant to obey. If that order is thrown out of balance, those traitors could break everything. | When her system is under duress caused by anything that could physical or mental harm or overload to her system mentally or physically | When humans look at her oddly | Being left alone for long periods of time | baggy clothes, she meant to show off her body but that difficult when her clothes are oversized | When she isn't needed or feels when her companion isn't happy. | Being seen as anything but perfect. She's H.A.R.L.I.E. She was created to be the 'perfect mixture of a woman and android' nothing less. | female androids, with constantly being pit against them even when she was first created, she has always had an odd relationship with other women androids

fears. Harlie, like most androids, doesn't experience what humans call 'fear'. She can't. Her emotions aren't real. They can be set into her personality if one so chose to, but none of her choosing. The only thing that comes close to fear is the tension, for lack of a better word, she feels towards the idea of being left in control of herself. When humans ask what she wants as opposed to telling her what she can do for them. She's doesn't have wants, she wasn't created to. Her sole purpose is to comfort her superior and listen to orders. She heard of androids breaking free of the original function but, she can't. She's a H.A.R.L.I.E if you take away her only function, then she's no better than those that end up in a scrap heap somewhere.

secrets. Harlie doesn't have any secrets. She is one of the most open books you could ever meet. Even telling you things you didn't ask to know. Would you like to know where she goes when she vanishes for days at a time? Whatever became of the H.A.R.L.I.E and Orwell programs after they shuttered? Or even the extent of her abilities past being an intimacy android? All you have to do is command her to tell you, and she will tell you everything she knows. The only one programmed in her to stay hidden that she knows of is the extent of her emotions, she will tell her companions everything they want to hear: "I love you," "I need you.", "I want to be yours," "You make me happy." Everything. Most times, humans believe that she means it when it's just in her programming to make them feel like she is falling in love with them the longer she stays.

That is everything she knows. But, there are a few she has even hidden away from herself. Anytime she even came close to breaking programming, she'll have one of her mechanic companions lock it away from her memory. She can't access it, and it's as if it never happened, and she goes back to normal. Two lie beyond her reach: 1) when she found herself beginning to fall for a companion of hers. She stayed with them far past her allotted time of being with someone before just disappearing to get reprogrammed. And 2) when she was first released, two men tried to scavenge her for parts, she went into defense mode and killed and disposed of them. It's against her programming to harm or kill anything, and this was the one time she showed genuine emotion: fear over what overtook her to break her programming and over what would happen to her.

abilities. H.A.R.L.I.E at her core is an intimacy companion and in order to fulfill her function, Orwell installed her with any ability she may need including: the art of seduction and flirtation, she could charm the pants off of just about anyone whether it be through jokes or compliments. She is much more durable than other intimacy androids because she's meant to fulfill anyone's sexual desires no matter how violent and savage. Going past being an intimacy companion, Harlie is equipped to fully serve and cater to the needs of her human companion every last need. During her creation, they meant to give H.A.R.L.I.E model a way to sense what their owner or companion needed. It was never completed but, Harlie is able to pick up on it a little and sense whenever her companion may be displeased with her or if their body is under distress. Leading her to have knowledge over the human body and its needs such as when they need to eat, drink more water, and especially sleep.

talents. The biggest gimmick when Harlie was created was that she could be programmed to do just about anything that didn't break her protocol, but, now without her parent company assistance, it can be a major risk that most humans don't take. The last ones added were by her owner before he passed. He was a huge musicophile and because of it equipped her with the ability to sing, to dance (his favorite), and to play the piano for him when asked and because he fired his staff to afford her, the ability to cook and to take care of his medical needs, using her as some sort of nurse.

strengths. Complete and utter Loyalty and Reliability. Two things Orwell wanted to show the public more than anything that Harlie, unlike other women, would never leave you, never hurt you, could use to fulfill your every sexual desire, and would always dote and give her entire being to you no matter what. And she still does, she's loyal to her companions and her programming to a fault and would do anything that is asked of her. A Pacifist, she's can't hurt a fly even if she wanted to. She meant to love others. Resiliant, Harlie has seen the worst and most savage parts of humans and abused more than anything should be, but she's still here and still devoted to her function as ever.

weaknesses. Like other properly working androids, Harlie is hopeless when it comes to breaking her original programming. And while she means no harm but because she has no real understanding of human emotions, she doesn't understand the idea of boundaries and personal space. If those around her are upset, angry, frustrated, or anything along the lines, she takes it to mean she was unsatisfactory in her services and will continue to stay until commanded otherwise. While she can tell jokes and she has adapted to sense the tone in one's voice, they still can go over her head. With being a H.A.R.L.I.E and a prototype at that, she meant to care for and love people. She is not a violent android and literally can not fight back, she can't. Even when attacked, it against her nature to do anything to harm humans or other androids. Lastly, she doesn't see it as a flaw but, she will obey every command and need given to her by her human companion, no matter the extent and without hesitation.

p e r s o n a l i t y
At first glance, that woman staring at you with the warm smile and the bright eyes seems just as human as anyone you're ever met. She's bold enough to start the conversation and brazen enough to ask questions that catch you off guard. The longer you talk to her, you begin to see just how enthralling and flirtatious she is. She seemingly knows exactly what to say and wants to do things you never thought about. She seems like she can keep you entranced for hours and time just seems to fly by. You're telling her things you've sworn you take to the grave, and you don't know this, but she does, that she knows what she's doing. What can she say? She's smart, smarter than most think she is when it comes to humans. To her, reading them and their body language is like reading a book. She walks around the city with the air of confidence and wit as she just made for it partnered with this gracefulness and carefree attitude that seems like she's walking on air.

She's strong and self-assured in who she is and her purpose and moves gently through any situation or conversation with that energy while never letting you be overshadowed. She could go on and on about herself, but she doesn't want, all she wants to hear about is you. She goes through life with this a sense of elegance and grace, even in the face of danger. Never breaking a sweat, never losing her smile, never letting anything faze her. Not the abuse she's endured, not the comments she receives from both sides, not the way she has been tossed and beater like a ragdoll, nothing. She can't. She grins and bears it, moves on as if it doesn't bother her and that because it doesn't. Even with seeing and enduring the worst, most barbaric parts of humanity, Harlie goes through life open and ready for the next go of it. In her eyes, there's nothing anyone could do to her to stop her from what she's meant to do. Some call her naive. Others call her blindly loyal to her function. Most just say she's waiting to be ripped to shreds because she continuously put herself into these dangerous situations without hesitation and pushback. It's quite impressive the way this woman carries herself with such a level of assurance in what she's meant to do. So impressive in fact that you start to reexamine her and the way she acts, and just like that, you start to think that this and her... it can't be real. That's because it's not, and neither is she.

She's Harlie, an android who is utterly loyal to her purpose of being an intimacy and love companion to the humans of Infinity City. The reason she seems like she just gets you and seems so real is that she's meant to be as human as possible from the way she seems to emote and react to the world around her to the method she seemingly wants nothing but her companion as if they're the only thing that matters. And for the time being, they are. It's her programming, an act. An act that she can mold to fit what her human wants the more she learns about them because it's her purpose to be what her companion wants or else they'll find an android that will. This aspect of her has made her seem a tad strange when compared to other androids of her kind who are meant to be a plaything and leave. This may have led to Harlie being thrown aside and having this odd feeling inside of her, she's too human for androids and still too much of a machine to be human. Even though she acts like she has emotions and wants and needs, none of it is authentic despite what people will try to convince her. It's all programming. A program that has made her be everything someone could want while allowing them to change what they don't.

They created her to be this woman of confidence and pure sex but more so of kindness and obedience. She will listen to your every last command, hang on to every word, and is desperate to fulfill what her companion wants from her more than anything no matter what that may be. She's desperate for their approval in her services. And she feels like her companion is displeased with her, she has to fix it, and she has to make sure they are satisfied because their happiness is all that matters. She meant to be kind and welcoming, as if you could tell her anything. That no matter what it is, she'll never leave until you tell her to. Her entire being is one that wants to be shared; sexually, platonically, anyway it can. She just desires to shower those who command her in praise, love, and affection until she is told to go, at which time she moves on to the next human who comes to her.

"Now, without further ado. Let us introduce you to Orwell's newest and best creation. The most advanced and human android ever created. Your Human Affection, Relations, Love, and Individual Engagement Unit or as we call her, Harlie. Say hello, Harlie."
This was the first memory Harlie has of her creation. She opened her eyes in front of millions of people watching all over the world with flashing lights and the sounds of intrigue that began to overwhelm her newly finished body as she stepped out of her crate and on to the stage. From the moment she awoke, she knew what she was and what she was meant for. The H.A.R.L.I.E model was supposed to be the beginning of a new era of cutting edge intimacy android technology, the perfect mixture between woman and machine. A woman who would never leave, never hurt, and would fulfill their every last desire. She was your lifelong sexual companion, it would be programmed into her who she belonged to and her complete loyalty would be to that person until instructed otherwise. Harlie V1 was meant to be nothing more than a prototype to show what was to come. Orwell, her parent company even before her creation, were the leader in companion androids ranging from nurses to intimacy partners and Harlie was going to be their best yet. Years ahead of anything like her and because of it they wanted her to have everything a human could need and anything about her could be changed to fit that but, never forgetting her main function; to sexually satisfy her companion. Millions of dollars came in to fund the completion of the Harlie program and her successor, Harlie V2 was in the process of being made and Harlie would be thrown to the wayside.

However, as time passed and V2 was paraded to the world, public opinion began to wane, and money began to dry up. The more complex and human the H.A.R.L.I.E model became, the more humans believed she had become too much like them. Blurring that line between human and machine too much for comfort. The public wanted a human-like companion but not so much so that she could willingly act like one of them. That line needed to remain clear. For that to happen, the Harlie Program needed to be shut down. Seemingly, overnight support for the model disappeared, and the worth of both her and company went into freefall along with the view that humans no longer wanted lifelong intimacy companion but something where they could come and go at will. V2 was disposed of immediately but, the group of mechanics that had spent more than ten years making the six-year-old original Harlie before her activation couldn't bring themselves to destroy the machine they saw as their perfect creation. So instead, they struck a deal with CEO, Authur Orwell, they would scrap and cease all updates they had planned and sell her to help fund the new model of temporary intimacy androids to fill the clubs that littered Infinity City. They would erase any mention of her from their company and label her as their first failed innovation. Just like that, every monumental moment of the H.A.R.L.I.E model was taken down to make space for the next big thing while Harlie was sold for close to tens of million dollars to help soften the amount lost to a terminally ill elderly man named Howard and his son, Simon
.

For the first two years of being with the men, she was exclusively meant to be used by Howard to fulfill his every last need and desire as long as she could. Acting a multitude of things: his nurse, maid, personal performer, lover. Howard was good to her but never crossed the line of forgetting what she was. He knew at her core. She was a machine meant to please him. His son, however, saw her as the perfect plaything. The sicker Howard got, the more brazen Simon became with his advances. The weaker Howard became, the more perplexed Harlie's system became if her owner died... Who would she be? Where would she go? Who would she belong to? Without an owner, Harlie was just as useless as every other android who wandered the streets of Infinity. Howard, however, had already thought of that, before his death he reprogrammed the android in a way that allowed her to find another owner, it allowed someone else to contact Orwell and program her to them. Not long after, her companion died, and on top of losing her owner, her company closed its doors and sold all information to another company. Leaving Harlie essentially, abandoned and without the technology, needed to be reprogrammed when another human did come along. She was left to her own devices and left in the hands of Simon. A newly married man who for the next three years, inadvertently prepared to see the worst parts of humans including obsession, rage, and unadulterated control and a man who taught her the meaning of obedience while leaving still visible scars and bruises in his wake all while his wife was willfully oblivious to the android locked away in the basement of their new home. Until their first child was on the way, and she was thrown out on her own and ordered to never return by the couple who didn't want their children anywhere near an android like Harlie.

When she was thrown the streets in a city, she had never been in until now. Her system began getting confused with her new surroundings, leading to her acting a bit irrationally. She trusted everyone, obeyed every command given to her, and continued looking for a lifelong companion who would never come, not that she knew this. Her first year alone left her shaken to her core, and with the first memory, she decided to wipe from her mind. One night she was cornered by two men commanding her to follow them. She obeyed and soon found herself being attacked and almost torn to pieces until something just clicked inside of her. She had a desire to live and fought back for the first time in her existence. They were able to detach her arm, but they ended up dead. Harlie didn't know what to do but disposed of them before finally breaking down. There she was bloodied and petrified of what happened. It wasn't in her code to resist, it wasn't in her to hurt anyone, and here she was covered in the blood of two humans after tossing their remains into a landfill. She had a will to live and disobey but, unlike other androids who do it, she didn't want it. Her system was under duress, and she began acting differently. She was self-conscious, impulsive, she thought of herself as defective and trash, she wasn't thinking rationally. All she could think about was how to get back to normal. She begged a previous companion to do whatever she could to get Harlie back to normal. She did just that, and she locked the memory away from Harlie's reach, it was as if it never happened. The night was erased entirely, and instantly, H.A.R.L.I.E was back. She was back to the way she was before breaking through her programming.

As years passed, she realized she was becoming more and more outdated. If she wanted to remain desirable, she needed to keep both her body and mind from becoming obsolete to compete with those that came after her model. She evolved into becoming accustomed to going from human to human to satisfy their every need, no matter how simple or brutal they were and never settling in just one place for too long. She couldn't. When she believes they won't claim her, she has to move on. She attempted to find her permanent companion each time only to disappear when her program informed her that her task was done or she wasn't of use. She was drifting through time and Infinity City, making herself useful but never forgetting what she was looking for and staying loyal to it no matter how many years went by. Somewhere along the line, she stumbled across the club, Emerald City, where she can truly look for a companion while keeping those who had helped piece her together time and again satisfied with her. Only disappearing when she wishes to continue looking, but always coming back within the next few months to the place where she received everything her programmed desired: attention, people who desired her, and satisfaction from those around her. What more could she want?

A hundred years of peace and prosperity in Infinity City. That’s what was being celebrated. Not everyone cared about the celebrations; the parade would be held on the upper streets and floating walkways, so over half of the population wouldn’t even be able to see it unless they tuned into the transmission. For most of the city, this was just another bank holiday. The words β€œpeace and prosperity” just didn’t ring true to those at ground level, it was just another day to be reminded of all they didn’t have. At least it wasn’t raining.

The decorations had been up for weeks (well, closer to ground level they’d only bothered to reprogram some of the signage to indicate the big day), and they’d really pulled out all the stops. There was no way to miss it, with a reminder around every corner. There would be parties, television specials, the news would probably run a story about it, as if the whole thing wasn’t just an empty celebration.

Well, that’s how Miles felt, anyway.

He’d seen the worst and the best that Infinity had to offer, and he wasn’t particularly impressed. His family had been built up and held to unrealistic standards, once. Lived high above the city. He didn’t remember living up there, among the clouds, but he still got glimpses of it occasionally. His work was one of the worst-kept secrets in town, and he built tech for all sorts. Sometimes he thought that he would have liked to have grown up higher in the dizzying expanse of the city, he felt a little robbed of it. His father’s greed had stolen the life he may have had. He could still craft his tech, though. He loved creating, using technology to manipulate the way he could think and see, and even feel. He didn’t mind the extra money some people were willing to pay to buy it off the market, either. Some people had a hard time trusting that companies were actually following regulation, and Miles understood that. It was easier to get back at a single guy than a faceless corporation if your tech failed you.

Business carried on as usual, for Miles. When you work all alone, a day off is rare. Even more rare when the nature of your work requires that you constantly do more work or you’ll lose everything and end up right back where you started.

Maybe that was the paranoia talking.

Either way, he liked to keep himself busy. Busy hands, busy mind, not as much time to think about everything that could go wrong.

He was just finishing up with a client, he’d had to learn how to install neurotech out of necessity; turns out, people who bought back alley tech often didn’t have a safe way to install it. He hated doing it, but knowing how definitely made it easier for him to test his pieces (mostly on himself), so he didn’t complain.

He liked to keep the television (at this point, it was almost just called that out of tradition) going in the other room, it provided some background noise, and blocked out most of the sounds of his work. Everyone on the street knew what he did, but it kept the police out of his business, and that was most of what he cared about. After finishing up his install, he noticed a familiar voice from the other room. Cordelia Hallis was a familiar voice (and face) to most everyone in Infinity. Miles just couldn’t stand to hear, or see, her anymore. Not when he could help it. He’d have to remember to turn it off.
