Name: Caitlin Hinman

Age: 27

Faction: The Valiant

Appearance: She stands at 5'9'' and weighs around 140lbs. Caitlin is an athletic young woman from years of doing cross country and gymnastics. She has shoulder length dark brown hair and her piercing dark brown eyes gives a level of beauty, while at the same time a factor of intimidation when she turns her glare at anyone who wrongs her. When she was working her coordinating job, Caitlin wears a business suit that consists of skirt, blouse, and suit jacket to maintain a level of professionalism along with tying her hair into a bun. On some nights before the phenomenon, Caitlin would go out for a fun time on the town a black leather jacket with red stripes on the sleeves and a white top underneath that teases a little cleavage to anyone who is attracted to her. The rest of the ensemble is finished with leather pants and boots. giving her an almost biker girl appearance. This outfit combined with her slim, athletic, and curvy figure has caught the attention of most men when she is in bars and clubs.

Personality: At first Caitlin's personality can come off as cold to anyone she doesn't know. At other times she will come off as friendly and warm to new people, especially with her event coordinating job where she has to greet people and direct them. Another part of her can off as flirtatious as whenever she heads to a tavern or club, she can often talk up to men that will buy her drinks or try to get her to dance with them. Her real honest personality is when she is at home reading a book, where she has a puppy for company or spending time bonding with her twin brother Derek.

What you character did before the phenomenon: Caitlin worked as an event coordinator for many of the various venues and events across New Horizon. During the phenomenon, she suffered a vehicle accident while on the way to work. Caitlin woke up in the back of an ambulance, disoriented and in a panic. What surprised the paramedics and herself, was the strands of electricity flowing across her fingers. Now, she works alongside her twin brother Derek in the Evolved group Valiant to make New Horizon a safer place in the aftermath of the phenomenon.

Powers:
Electrokinesis: The ability to manipulate, control, and create electricity. Caitlin can throw out bolts of electricity from her fingers or the palms of her hands. She can also store up energy and release it in a vicious blast or beam. At the same time, Caitlin can bring in the static electricity in the atmosphere around her, and release it in a blast wave. Some defensive abilities are that she can project a shield to give protection, while doing the same to others. By touching her foes, she can inflict a temporary paralysis on them.

Personal Belongings: Cell phone, watch, personal med kit

Weaknesses: Using electrokinesis can be draining, requiring Caitlin to stop before burning herself out. Being drenched by water prevents Caitlin from using the power, unless she wants to electrocute herself.

So begins...

Caitlin Hinman gave a loud sigh, the bus ride back to the apartment she shared with her twin brother had taken a bit longer than she liked. Through the entire venture, she felt like people were staring at her, as if expecting her to unleash her power inside the moving vehicle. I might as well have, given those folk really something to talk about. Caitlin mused, walking up the front steps and opening the door. It was a decently sized place, located on the western end of the downtown district, close to the Industrial Park. "Hey Derek, you home?" she called out.

"In the living room sis," came her twin brother's voice. Derek Hinman was lounging back against the leather sofa, laptop resting on him. There was an open bag of cherry licorice resting on the coffee table in front of him. He was currently sending an email to his boss at work, requesting to extend the deadline on the latest advertisement that was being worked on. The shock of the 'Phenomenon' was still fresh in Derek's mind, having made him forget that he had a normal job for a few days. "So how was your visit to the doctor's office?" he looked up, a stick of red licorice hanging loosely from his mouth.

She shook her head, as if clearing a thought then took a seat beside him. "Actually, it wasn't that bad. I'm clearly not the first Evolved that's visited Dr. Holloway. I wouldn't expect to be the last either, there was a long line behind me." Caitlin reached down and pulled up a couple licorice sticks to snack on from the coffee table. "Some people were talking on the bus, things are going down in Shanty Town."

Derek rolled his eyes, adding in a snort. "There's always something going down in Shanty Town. Given what's happened lately, I'd expect the area to get a rapid increase in new residents."

"Still...I'm getting a weird vibe from it," she replied back. "Like nothing good could come from it."

"It's probably nothing important. The NHPD will probably head in and sort things out, you'll see." Derek reached over to give his twin a comforting hug, then returned back to his work.

"I hope you're right bro, I hope you're right."

Caitlin was riding the local bus that was on route to Shanty Town. Despite her brother's assurances that nothing more than normal was happening there, curiosity had overtaken the young woman. Now here she was, heading to a district that thrived on drug dealings, racketeering, and prostitution. During the route, Caitlin had noticed a young woman step onto the bus and take a place next to a middle-aged man that had a nice watch.

One second the watch was there on the man's wrist, the next second...it was gone when the bus went over a pothole. One of the guidelines that the leader of the Valiant placed to all of its members were to be vigilant and observant. This sent the young woman's senses off, realizing that the other woman might be a petty thief taking advantage of an easy cash grab. If there was no one else on the bus, then Caitlin might have taken the initiative and demand that the woman return the watch back to the man. Raising up a hand and have strands of electricity split off of it would help her in intimidating the thief.

Surely no one would want to mess with an Evolved, especially one that could potentially fry you to a crisp with electricity. Perhaps I should just follow her and demand the watch back. Though if I return it to the man, he might think I stole it. Caitlin pondered the thought in her head. She resolved to just follow the woman, and go from there.

The city air felt heavy as the light-falling steps of the thief carried her down from the lift of the bus to the heavy-laden city streets. New Horizon sat in static tension, waiting for a spark to ignite the people in the madness that had been set in place by the Phenomenon and the rash of massive changes it brought along. So many lost, so many gone. So few changed, suddenly given the world to change and no directions on how to handle power immeasurable.

Farrah White didn't have the fate of the city and the deeper implications of their actions on the streets of New Horizon on her mind as she turned from the bus stop and continued toward the perpetual strange that was Shanty Town. It was the center for the broken and the downtrodden, home to the homeless, safety for those who could never truly feel safe. Shanty Town was almost like an unspoken holy ground on which their war would not be fought. NHPD and their military assistance stayed away, not wanting to get drawn into a relief effort they couldn't support. And even a Blood Angel like Farrah knew better than to press her luck in a place like this. Things broke out, but no one could call their place their home turf.

No matter the time of day, there was always someone wandering around. This part of the city never really slept. That was one thing Farrah liked about it. It was dirty, it was broken, but it was never dull.

"Shit," she breathed, coming up to the black metal gate that blocked an outdoor staircase leading to the higher floors of a poorly maintained apartment building. Swinging the backpack hanging from one shoulder around the front, the young woman began to dig for a key she knew she'd stashed in one of the pockets after having to make a quick escape this morning.

It was about this point that her own sense and ability to pick up on things out of the ordinary began to settle in. There had been a few turns between the bus stop and her destination, enough to know that know the same frame appearing at a few turns. Not enough to know a face, but enough to know that something just wasn't quite right.

"Look," she said with a sigh, not turning around but speaking clearly for anyone approaching from behind to here, "if you're looking for a score, trust me, you don't have the kind of money it would take. Try some of the girls down by the old theatre, I hear they're giving it away."

Following the thief after getting off the bus had been a simple affair. Most people kept to themselves in Shanty Town, preferring not to intervene in the business of others. This especially rang true after the Phenomenon had hit, when paranoia ran through New Horizon like a tornado. It was hard to tell if someone was an Evolved or not, and even harder to decipher whether they were going to kill you, or offer a helping hand. She hid behind a corner, watching the thief make her way up towards some outdoor staircase. It all seemed like smooth sailing, until the thief called out.

"Though that sounds tempting, I don't want to catch anything from them," Caitlin replied, walking up til she was behind the other woman, "And besides, there are more important things at hand. Especially that watch you lifted off that poor gentleman back on the bus. I'm sure you've heard this before, but we can do this the easy way, or the hard way." The palms of her hands glowed a light blue for a few seconds, showing that she was ready to use her power at a moment's notice. It wouldn't be the first time Caitlin had run into someone who took advantage of the naive, ditto for not being the first time of using her ability to get a point across.

One of the first times that Caitlin had used her power, she had almost killed a would-be rapist. She didn't know if there was irony in trying to resuscitate the man, after Caitlin stopped his heart on accident when he tried to nab her from behind. However, the man lived from the shocking experience, and now spent time behind bars in a correctional facility.

"Look, make this simple for yourself. Give me the watch, and we can forget that this whole encounter ever happened. That sounds like a fair deal, what do ya say?"

“I just don't feel like myself lately,” Andy said. Her gaze was on her feet, kicking back and forth from her seat on the examination bench.
“You are going to have to be a little more specific,” The doctor said. Andy let out a big sigh. What could she say. There was so much chaos going on now that others like herself had surfaced. “Evolved” they called them. She didn't feel very “Evolved.” Her doctor was looking her over suspiciously, like she was expecting Andy to grow horns at any moment. Andy assumed she had seen a lot of strange cases over the last few days.
“Nothing like that,” she quickly covered, finally making eye contact with Dr. Todd. “I don't know if its from all the strangeness recently or what. But I don’t have any control over my emotions. One minute I'm happy, the next I'm angry. I cant stop it.”
“Adriana, I have been seeing you and your family since you were crawling. You have never been the type to come in because your hormones are out of whack. Just tell me what is going on.” Dr. Todd said with a sympathetic look.
Andy immediately regretted deciding to come see the doctor. She thought she could come in here, bluff some story and at least get something to level out her moods. If she didn't freak out maybe she could keep the changes from happening. Maybe she could beat it.
“It's not hormones Doc. Its bad. I feel like I'm in a whirlwind of emotions.” Andy exaggerated, trying to keep the conversations from going anywhere else.
“If that's the case Andy, you should probably be going to see another type of doctor. I can give you a referral if you...”
“No. Dr. Todd, I just need something to help level me out. I'm not crazy. I am just going through a really rough time right now with school, and all this craziness, and now all this stuff with my parents. Seriously. Please I just want to feel in control of myself.” This wasn't a lie. It was very true in fact. If Andy could just have a smidgen of control over herself right now she would feel a lot safer.
Dr. Todd sighed and wrote something on her prescription pad.
“Here, take this. But if you don’t feel better soon Andy go see a psychiatrist. There is no shame in it.” Adriana nodded.
“Thank you.” The blonde hopped off the table, pulling her long hair over her shoulder. “And I will.” She let herself out of the examination room and checked out.
She made her way to the bus stop. The pharmacy was only a few stops down, and if she was feeling braver she would probably just walk the distance.
'get to the pharmacy. Get the pills, take them when you feel the change. You can do this' she mentally gave herself a pep talk. She found a seat towards the back and put her head phones on to keep anyone from talking to her.
'Just keep to yourself until you get the meds.' she told herself. As the music started and the bus began to move the days of exhaustion started to set it. She had barely slept. She had been trying so hard to keep her emotions in check, and trying to NOT feel was the most tiring thing she had ever done. When she did sleep she had nightmares and woke up with scales, or claws. One time she even woke up hovering in the air with big webbed wings protruding from her back.
IT wasn't her intention, but the relief of having the medicine caused her to drift into sleep. A large lurch in the bus was the only thing to cause her to stir. The bus had gone over a very large pot hole.
She panicked. How long had she been asleep. At the next stop she walked to the front of the bus and talked to the driver.
“Excuse me sir, I fell asleep. Which stop is this?” Andy asked, trying hard to keep her emotions in check.
“We are just past Shanty Town.”
“I need to get back to Pineview. Do you know when you will be back in that area?” The bus driver laughed.
“Sweetie this is the end of the route for this bus. If you need to get back to Pineview you need to call a cab.” Andy bit her lip and left the bus.
Shanty Town. This is not where she wanted to be.

The young woman's posture changed as the preaching tone of her seeming stalker droned about right and wrong, hard and easy. Slowly, Farrah pivoted on the ball of her right foot, twisting until her frame presented to the follower. A few locks of brunette fell forward and vieled icy eyes.

"Poor? That poor gentleman?" Farrah spit that word from her mouth like a venom that burned her tongue at the very mention of the concept, the mere utterance a damage beyond measure. "Guy like that probably has two more, a silver one for his other high-dollar suit and one more just for special occassions. Hell, he'll probably think it's more likely it got lost in his wife's box of diamond jewelry than swiped by somebody who could actually use it."

White sized up the woman across from her. She certainly didn't seem like much, not exactly the intimidating frame that would make someone cross to the other side of the street or shudder at the thought of a shadow approaching in a dark alley. That was before the woman revealed her true self to Farrah, the glowing palm giving way to the secret that put her in the position, at least in her own mind, to act as the judge, jury, and execution of all things unjust within New Horizon. Just the tiniest cackle of electricity was enough to let it be known that this wasn't going to go smooth.

Instinctively, Farrah drew her front foot back, establishing a more balanced base and a lower center of gravity. Hands stayed closer to her body, thumb bending back a few fingers in sequence leading a series of satisfying cracks.

"I would think that someone...like you," Farrah said, visibly nodding toward the glowing hand and all that it representing about her unknown confronter, "would have learned by this point that the lines have already been drawn. Things are never going to be like they used to. It's about taking care of yourself and your own."

"You know what? Here. You win," she said, spinning her backpack around and opening one of the pockets, fishing about until she produced the same watch that had been taken just so few fleeting moments ago, wiggling it in front of her at Caitlin. "Here you go, Captain Hero, take it."

With that, Farrah bent her arm and then uncoiled, tossing the watch into the air toward Caitlin in a high, arching trajectory that would send the watch to mix with the downward shining beams of the street lamps. Then, after a deep breath, Farrah's frame began to change. The first instant would see her appearance seem like that of an object viewed in the distance of a heat wave, wavering and shifting before becoming transparent and, as soon as two blinks, completely gone from view. Invisible.

In that instant, the thief planted on her back foot and charged forward, working to close the distance between herself and the Evolved as quickly as possible. At the last instant, Farrah dropped her shoulder to lead the blow into the young woman's midsection.

Caitlin's eyes widened, looking around for the thief that just disappeared before her eyes. Before she knew it, Caitlin felt the other woman charge straight into her midsection. She held her footing, catching onto Farrah when her midsection was jabbed by the woman’s shoulder. Caitlin took a tight hold and brought her knee up, jabbing it into the thief’s waist. Releasing the thief, she took a couple steps back to gauge the woman.

"Honestly, I wasn't looking for a fight," Caitlin shook her head with a sigh, "Regardless of whatever social or financial status that man held, it still wasn't right for you to take that watch." Looking down to her own hand, tiny electric strands traveling all across the palm and jutting out into open air. "These lines that you said, that's been drawn. It doesn't have to be like that. Some of us still want to keep on going with our lives, even after whatever happened to us happened. Sure, some things may be different now, but that doesn't mean society has to end."

Caitlin turned to the side, seeing the watch rest on the ground, "Maybe I'm just wasting my breath here, and my words aren't getting through to you. So I hope you're happy with yourself, there are better ways of living than being a low-class thief." she went over and picked the timepiece up, and placing it into her pocket. Taking one last look at Farrah, she turned and walked away from the woman back to the bus stop.

In some ways, the woman is right. There will be a time where I'll have to look after myself and not rely on anyone else. I just hope when that time comes, I'll be ready for it. Caitlin thought to herself as continued on her way.
