Personalty and character traits: Gretchen has always been a quiet person who loves life and has a great respect for her father who raised her after her mother passed away when she was 4 years old. She was always taught to respect her elders and as a child it was always commented how well mannered she was. Quiet in nature she enjoys just sitting and reading, listening to music, and children. She loves kids which is why she doesn't mind taking care of her roommates daughter Dakota.

Biography: Gretchen was born into a loving family, her father adored her mother and treated her like a queen. Even from a young age Gretchen could remember watching her parents slow dance in their living room to the radio. But suddenly the light that was her mother was extinguished in a sad car accident. Her father was devastated but in order to appear strong he persevered forward for the sake of Gretchen, her being so young.
School was not always enjoyable for her, she was often times teased for her well behaved personality and red hair. The school bus for Gretchen as a child was the worst, this was actually how she met (the ex). A group of bullies was picking on her and he defended her, he declared to everyone that Gretchen was his girlfriend and that nobody would touch her. This was the beginning of his controlling and abuse. As children it was cute but as they grew into teenagers it wasn't anymore. From the fifth grade to their senior year of high school (the ex) was by her side.
He told her how to dress, who she could talk to, where she could go and if he even thought that Gretchen had done anything against his wishes the consequences could be painful. Just after they graduated was the last time he laid hands on her Gretchen. She had ended up in the hospital with her arm broken in three places, face bloodied and bruised, and a broken nose. Her father was livid he had never liked (the ex) and had tried his best to keep his daughter away from him. Gretchen's father had warned her time and time again about the true nature of (the ex) but she insisted that she was in love.
When she ended up in the hospital things became all to clear to her that she had to get away. A few months before, Gretchen's best friend from high school Meredith had moved to New York City to go to art school. She had offered her a place to stay as long as Gretchen didn't mind taking care of her four year old daughter Dakota. Gretchen had declined because she knew that (the ex) wouldn't let her go. But now she felt that maybe this was the best thing for her to get away from him and start a new life.
As Gretchen laid in her hospital room she had a dream, a dream of a man that she had never seen before. She felt as if she should know him but, also knew that she had never met him before. She smiled up at him and he smiled back at her, his eyes filled with love. A look that she had never seen in (the ex's) eyes. And there they danced in the middle of the living room, something she had seen her parents do as a child. When she awoke the next morning she knew that New York City was where she needed to go, and she felt that this man of her dreams was there. As soon as she was healed enough to leave the hospital preparations were made for her trip. She knew it would take her far away from her loving father but it also would take her way from the man she never wanted to see again.
