Everything was black, and not that stereotypical black but this void of nothingness that absorbed all hope and fear at the same time. The smell of garbage was prominent in Niks' head. "Ugh that smells terrible." He said as he picked himself to a sitting position. He looked around at his surroundings to take in the sights so to say. "What is this? It doesn't seem right." He said as he looked up at this floating barge that had a sign on it labeling in a dance club. He stood up or at least tried. He fell down once and then when he finally got to his feet he dusted himself off and looked ahead of him to see this guy standing there. "Nik! I can't believe you are back."
The man proceeded to run up to him and hug him. "Hey guy, I don't know you." He pointed out. The mans accent was definitely Italian and it was thick. "Well we have some plans for ya Nikky boy. You'd best get going." At that the guy left without giving him his name or anything. Nik dusted himself again and walked out of the ally way and turned the corner. Nik wanted something familiar to him and something that was food. He kept walking seeing these floating building and building that touched the sky. He came across a Coffee house and decided this was going to be the closest thing his was going to get to familiar.

Emeli sighed as her alarm clock blared beside her bed. She sat up, and shook her head. Another day. She got out of bed and went into her apartment's kitchen, scouring through the cupboards for coffee.

"Fuck, am I out? Damn it," Emeli silently said, cursing to herself. She was normally really good about making sure her supplies of coffee were kept stocked. But lately, her income from selling her art has been slow, so she had to put rent ahead of coffee. She walked back to her bed, picking her wallet up off of her bedside table, looking at the contents. Flipping past her real ID, her fake ID for getting in bars, and her favorite art store's favored customer card, she looked at her cash. "Well, that's enough for a coffee at that shitty coffee shop on the corner... ugh. Better than nothing, I guess."

She put the wallet down and got dressed, putting on her typical tank top and shorts, slipping her wallet into her back pocket. Looking at the weather forecast, she put a zip-up hoodie on over her tank top, and left, locking the door behind her. Deciding to walk, she leaves her motorcycle parked in the apartment lot, checking to make sure it's locked and secured before leaving. While she approaches the coffee house, she sees a man dressed fully in black walk out of the nearby alley and into the coffee shop. She'd normally pass this off as nothing major. After all, this was NYC. The city's been weird for decades, and the gods messing with humanity has done nothing more than encourage that. But this man, Emeli couldn't help but place him as off. Like he was from an earlier time. Not only did he just look out of place, he looked completely bewildered to his surroundings.

She stepped in the coffee house after him, making sure to give him enough time to get settled. She takes a seat near enough to keep him in sight, but not so close that she seems suspicious, and orders a coffee and water. Her coffee arrives, and after loading it with sugar, she took a sip. "Nasty shit, but whatever." She sighed and let her mind wander.

Alexander stepped off the bus into the morning air of the city. He felt re-energized from the long bus ride now that he was out in the sun. He wasn't used to the bustling city, but after awhile he might get the hang of it. He absorbed his surroundings, and noticed that he was a half a block away from a coffee shop. He began to walk towards it when he noticed a darkly dressed man walk in, looking confused. 'Great, maybe he and I can explore this city. He seems just as confused as I am,' Alexander thought. He noticed that a woman was about to enter but hung back for a second, then went inside the coffee shop after the man. "Strange," Alexander thought aloud. He decided that it might be in his best interest to follow after them, because who knows? Something interesting might happen, so he entered the coffee shop and started walking towards the girl.

Nik was stumbling around for a bit before entering the coffee shop. 'Wow it's like I haven't walked in years.' he thought as he walked in rubbing his head. Feeling tired he walked up to the front and ordered a large coffee black. After he said the order they gave him a weird look. "People don't normally don't order it like that." The lady told him. "Okay, but that is how I like it so I still order it like that." he retorted. After waiting for what seemed like an eternity he finally got his coffee. He pulled out his wallet and handed her the cash, and stepped away. He glanced around the shop, but the only thing that caught his eye was this girl in shorts and a zip-up hoodie. 'Cute.' he thought as he shrugged. he walked to get a view of the window. The only open stop was three seats away from the girl. He sipped his coffee for a bit and noticed a large man walk in after him.

He was trying to get his head on straight when he noticed something that was just starring him in the face the entire time. He was dressed so differently than everyone else in the town/city. He looked down at what he was wearing and determined that maybe new clothes were in some order. He smiled as he watched the girl form the corner of the eye. He wasn't sure but he would approach her when he finished his coffee or he would wait for her to approach him. "People never seem to change." He said to no one in particular.

Noticing a rather peculiar man walking towards her, Emeli immediately snapped out of her sleep deprived daydream. She quickly looked the man up and down. He didn't seem too out of place, wearing a simple t-shirt and jeans get up. Nothing strange about it. The golden bracelet on his arm, however, caught her attention. With the stylization being similar to old Egyptian design, Emeli was overcome with another wave of peculiar feelings, similar to the feeling she got from the man in black who was currently looking in her direction.

Gaining her composure, she took another sip of the sub-par coffee, then looked up at the man as he reached her table. "I guess you'd like to talk to me. Staring at me is another possibility, but I'm really not in the mood for that, so what's up? I'm sure there aren't many people like you around this city, especially with that Egyptian bracelet you're wearing. What's your story?"

"Wow you're good at reading people. As for my story, that can wait, why do you happen to be following a apparently drunken man into a coffee house? Usually you're supposed to avoid drunk people. By the way, my name is Alexander Motak, Alexi for short and who might you be?" Alexander asked. He looked into the woman's green eyes and couldn't help but feel a little bit bashful. She was attractive, and very striking. Alexander quickly put those thoughts aside, they would serve no one in this situation. He doubted that she felt the same as him.

He didn't wait for an invitation to sit down, and sat right across from her. He winked at her and turned to look at her quarry. He looked like he said something to himself, but Alexander couldn't tell what was said. If only he could control sound waves instead of light. Somethings you just can't change.

"Polite, aren't you? Rare thing in this city," Emeli said, half sarcastically. "It's an acquired skill, though, reading people. College helps that," she said, not trying to hide the pride in her voice. "As for why I'm following him, he just gives off a weird vibe, and I'm curious. I doubt he can really do much to me in his current state, anyways. He'd probably just fall on his face if he tried to run after me. My name is Emeli Katsumaki, by the way. Nice to meet you, Alexi," she said with a smile. She didn't care too much if he thought she was flirting, and he seemed too shy to really act on it. Besides, he seems nice enough to befriend, which is something Emeli could use in this city.

She took another sip from her coffee, then put it down with a disgusted expression. "This shit's gotten cold already. You have any reason you want to stay here, or shall we leave? I have no where to go today, and you seem trustworthy enough that I don't have to worry about you trying to make a move," Emeli said, getting bored with the current situation. The black clothed man was strange, sure, but she'd much rather be around Alexi if he tried to do anything.

"Sure, why not? Want to grab a bite? I'm starving." Alexander said, offering a hand to help her up. He wondered what they would do? He could feel something was strange about this girl, and he couldn't quite pin it down. He had had this sort of feeling before, but couldn't recall the occasion. Oh well, it doesn't matter. He just got to this city and made a friend not even an hour later. Things seemed to be going great. He looked towards the black clothed man. He didn't seem to be paying attention, but looks can be deceiving.

Nik was watching the girl as a man approached her. "Mhm." He wasn't sure what to think but he was getting bored so he stood up and walked a few steps and stopped. He looked towards the counter and saw a very ugly thing standing there. He eyes went a little wide as if he knew what it was but he couldn't think of it. He took a step back towards the window and reached into the back of his jacket and felt the hilt of a knife there. He turned his head. "How did I know that was there?" he asked more to himself. He was then pulled back and through the glass of the coffee shop. As he hit the ground he heard "You will not remember!" as a claw slashed at him and hit his arm. He lay there in the rubble of the glass of the window. "Well so much for a quiet morning." He said starring at the sky. 'It must of looked like I was pushed or even jumped out that window.' He thought "I hope that doesn't cost a lot."

Smiling, Emeli was about to take Alexi's hand as the black clothed man she followed in the shop was pulled through the window by a disfigured being which Emeli couldn't recognize, shattering the glass and landing outside the shop. "What the... Alexi, that bite to eat will have to wait. Our black clothed friend is getting attacked, and I'm seriously hoping I'm not the only one that can see the culprit," she said in a slightly flustered voice. Without waiting for Alexi, she ran outside of the shop to see the man pinned to the ground, getting slashed by the creature's claw. "Christ, what the hell is going on..." She looked around to make sure there was no one else looking. The only people in the immediate vicinity were Alexi, the man, and some red-headed girl walking towards the shop. Emeli sighed and checked the moisture content of the air, satisfied at the slight humidity. "Well, let's just hope that that red-head can't see this..." Emeli raised her hand, drawing the moisture in the air to a concise spike and freezing it.

"Hey, ugly!" Emeli yelled, trying to get the creature's attention off of the man. If it looked at her, she could get a clear shot at its face. "I've got a present for you!"

Alexander watched as Emeli went running out of the shop to confront the weird figure that attacked the man. He stared in shock after her. He quickly gathered his wits and went following after her, afraid for her safety. Wouldn't want his only friend in the city to get hurt. He got outside and could barely discern the figure that was attacking the man from the man itself. The light was shining in his eyes, so he just dimmed the light receptors in his eyes so he could see better. After the lights were dimmed in a sense, he still couldn't really tell what the thing was. Alexander ran up beside Emeli as she yelled at the thing. He quickly tapped his bracelet, and let the staff evolve from it as it traveled into his hand. He twirled it in his hand and held it in a ready position.

"Ya! What she said!" Alexander yelled at the creature. He was hoping that what Emeli was wanting to distract the creature. He quickly looked out of the corner of his eye and saw the ice spike in the air in front of her. Alexander had never seen that before.

Mike was having a good dream for once. It had a lot less death and blood in it and a lot more happy and pretty girls. That was until the living hellraiser that was Mrs. Bakoski who lived one floor above him began her daily ritual of excessively loud classical music at eight in the morning. Mike's eyes flew open as the first bitter note hit his ears and whatever paradise his dreams had brought him was gone. Time for the cold, harsh reality of the day. He half rolled out of his futon and took the five steps he needed to get to the bathroom. His studio apartment was small but at least you didn't have to go far to get anything. After a quick shower, he pulled on his usual attire and went to the stove and half a counter he called a kitchen and threw some eggs and fried ham together. The eggs were under cooked and the ham was more burnt than crispy but he hardly took notice once he realized his morning glass of juice was more than a few days spoiled. 'It can only get better,' he thought grudgingly in his head as he hooked up his gun holster and slide the excessively large .9mm ebony pistol into it's place. 'I have paperwork today. I have no expectations. No need to leave before my shift's over. I can't do wrong.'

As he stepped out into his apartment's garage, Mike couldn't help but smile at the one thing he was happy to own: a Yamoto GCC900 hovorcycle. Imported straight from Japan, decked out with all the shiniest bells and whistles of the modern age and showing off a black and red paint job, it was easily worth the several months of pay and bonuses Mike had earned. He mounted it and revved the bike up a few times before shooting off into the city. The first stop was the coffee shop, as stereotypical as it may seem. Between the time you wake up and the time you get to bed, you need a cup of Joe to keep you going when you're in law enforcement.

He parked a block away from his usual cafe and walked over only to be interrupted by... a man flying out the window?! After a moment of shock and then realizing the hapless man wasn't dead, Mike drew his gun and pressed to the side of the building, leaning in to get a look through the hole where the window had been. Standing there was a beast so hideous and foul that he couldn't find words to describe it, though one word rang clearly through his head regardless. Titanspawn. 'Yep. Only get better,' he thought poisonously to himself. Without another thought, he drew the monster pistol from it's holster in one smooth movement, flipping the safety off with his thumb and began unloading shots into the beast as fast as his hands would let him.

Emeli flung the spike of ice into the beast's hide as multiple events unfolded around her. Alexi forming a staff from his bracelet. The sound of gunfire. The red-headed girl noticing the beast and running into an alley. "Damn it all," Emeli silently said to herself. She looked in the direction she guessed the gunfire was from and saw a cop unloading as fast as possible on it. This wouldn't be as bad, but it was a certain cop Emeli was fairly familiar with.

It was none other than Officer Micheal Embers, a man who Emeli has had more than a few bad run-ins with from her few theft charges. "Of course. Alexi, I really hope that staff of yours isn't just for show. I'm also hoping you aren't completely green in a fight, or this is going to be a lot harder," she quickly said, hoping that the man hears her. "Don't follow me, just try to get the damn thing's attention!"

She turned and stepped back a bit, looking in the cop's direction. "Hey, Officer Embers! Hope you can provide enough cover fire to keep me safe!" With that, she started focusing the water in the air around her, forming a very crude icy armor on her arms, shoulders, chest, and and legs. She took a few more steps back, ready to get a running start. "This is probably the dumbest idea I've ever had," she mumbled. And with that, she ran, full on, at the beast on top of the black clothed man, and slammed her shoulder into the beast, hoping to throw its balance off. The ice around her shoulder cracked, thankfully keeping her shoulder safe from any grievous injuries. She stepped back slightly, seeing that she had indeed jarred the beast off of the man, but its full attention was now on her. She took the time to repair the ice on her shoulder, a mistake she soon regretted as the beast turned and backhanded her into the air and back into the street. Emeli barely had enough time to soften the fall, preventing any deadly injuries, but the pressure of the ice cracking knocked the air out of her and left her on the ground, sore and incapable of moving very easily.
