It was a cliche. Just like every novel she had read, the investigation began in an alleyway. When she heard this fact, it took all her will power to avoid snorting. It would have been inappropriate to do so when it involved a person's death.

The police weren't stupid. North Point was practically ran by the two most infamous crime families known. They weren't stupid enough to interfere with the families business. The large check given to the police station by both sides was enough to keep them quiet. Paige didn't agree with this of course. It only showed the corruption and green of the station.

Anytime the girl brought it up, she was quickly silenced. The money they got was the reason their people were well paid, and the reason the innocent civilians of the town were so well taken care of. Profit came from turning their cheek.

That couldn't be done when a body turned up. That's why Page was there in an alleyway late in the evening. Being the lead detective for the case, and one of the only detectives in North Point, every large case was seen by her. This case was far different. The forensics team had already searched for prints, DNA, and anything in between. Something felt terribly off to the girl though.

It was stranger that the mayor had asked her to deal with. As if she wasn't going to. Surprises were a common thing this day, for when she got to the station in the morning - it was only then she was told of a partner being brought in for the case. She couldn't tell if this was an insult to her position. Did they think she couldn't do it alone? She'd dealt with missing persons, and closed 80% of the cases. She guessed the ones she didn't close, weren't supposed to be, as the cases were somehow tampered with.

Paige was only told the name of this detective, and that he was good. Detective Sebastian Queen was his name. She hadn't heard of him. The last partner she had was her ex-fiancee. Since then she had been working solo, and it had been successful. She couldn't help but be pissed that they were introducing a new person into the case, but the decision was above her pay grade.

His plane was supposed to arrive earlier in the day, and she had been at the airport to pick the detective up. When she found out the flight was delayed by hours, she didn't want to waste anymore time. Now she drove her car into the alley way, parking it at the entrance of the alley.

Getting out the smell was the first thing that bothered her. There was trash in the alley, bird shit on the ground, and cigarette smoke coming from the apartment buildings around. Yet it smelled clean in the alley. The police tape was still there. Quickly she moved it to go under, and the evidence markers were placed on the ground. There weren't enough of the markers in her opinion. The outline of the body there as well.

She took out her phone and took photos for later, only to remind herself if need be. Pulling out the crumpled sticky note in her pocket with the detective's number on it.

To : Sebastian Queen
"I was going to pick you up at gate 4, but your flight was delayed. I'm at the crime scene. I'll wait here for you" she texted the man, putting the address of the location at the end of the message.

While she wasn't happy with the whole partner situation, it'd be best to get through the case quickly with this detective, and it'd take longer if she had to speed him up on the case.

She hoped the flight was soon, as the infamous Motane party was beginning, cars passed in the location, going to the families mansion no doubt. Giving the detective a perfect opportunity to get some work done. Paige only continued looking around as she waited for her new partner.

Honestly, these events were either a hit or miss. He guessed this one to be a hit. His family had spent months planning the event. The biggest problem of the party was that it was a competition. Everything the Montane family did was in competition with the Lovell's. Each year the Lovell's threw parties, and the Montanes threw one right back. Each one having to be better than the others. Though in aspect, there were virtually the same.

They had a live band coming in to play. They managed to rent out one of the hottest DJ's in the state. Money wasn't a problem for them. They had money coming out their ass practically. What the family did, often they didn't talk about. Alec knew better though. He was the right hand man of his Father. Whatever meeting his Father went to, he followed. Being the only child it was up to him to take the family business when it came him time.

The largest way they made money, was through drugs. None of them looked like drug dealers, and they weren't. They paid people to deal the drugs for them. They only worked with making the trades from over seas. It was only to their great luck that the biggest competitor happened to be their neighbors.

Alec didn't exactly know why the feud between houses was so prevalent. If they were smart, they'd join business. They'd make so much more everything. Money, reputation, fame. The Lovell's had connections where the Montane's didn't and vice versa. Apparently it was the fault of the parents. Something about old bad blood. Bringing up the subject to his family only got him dirty looks and the lash back of telling him "he knows why". Like hell he did.

Outside near the pool they had entertainers getting ready. Bartenders were set up, and the pool had lights inside that changed colors overtime. His Mother was outside talking to someone delivering the food buffet. Often Alec couldn't even look at her. When he was younger he was a mommy's girl. But now he only knew far too much about the wrong she did.

After snooping about when his parents were away, he learned of an affair his Mother was having. With who he didn't know, only that messages were left on the phone for her. Alec hadn't spoken of his discovery. It was better he kept the information for when he could use it. His Father taught him well.

He stood next to his Father as he wrapped up a phone call with a foreign trader.
"Make sure you put the next call on the calendar for me" his Father spoke, his loud voice echoing throughout the office.
"Yeah, it'll be up later" Alec responded and his Father let out a bellowing laugh.
"That a boy, now get ready for the party. You're the main attraction" his Father winked, making Alec give a face of disgust. He left the office to get dressed. It would be a big night for him, his Father was right. Everyone in the town was invited, and that meant he had to entertain. Mainly women. Guys talked to him too, but typically about menial things like sports, women, and drinking. Not that he minded, but at least there was a payoff with talking to ladies.

Alec hoped his uncle would make an appearance as well. His uncle was far different, he made his money in ways that were innocent and legal. Something he admired. His uncle didn't approve of the business, and did his best to teach Alec ways beside dealing with Mexican drug lords.

Going out to the backyard to seeing it decorated and ready to go. Of course guest were already piling at the front doors. It was exactly 5 minutes till it began, and Alec took those 5 minutes to travel along the backyard, checking everything once more before one by one people came in. His family stood by the entrance to greet each person, as did he.

She wasn't in the room when it happened. Rather, because Evie (Evelyn Raynor, to be exact) had decided that today was the day she needed to be squeamish about knowing that Katherine pulled the trigger, she had stayed perched in her 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari. With said blonde sitting in the passenger seat, mouthing away on the phone at a mutual companion about the Montane party. While Evie was trying to convince the person on the other line to attend the event, Katherine sat with eyes dead set on the hospice they were about a block away from. It was a good enough distance to see her man leave the facility, and enough to not make her look suspicious. Plus, considering the fact that it was getting dark and the windows to her luxurious vehicle were tinted, nobody could tell the difference. But she could and that was all that mattered.

When the body dropped and it had gotten back to her family that it had been one of theirs (not a gangster, but an ally in the town), her father had suspected that either she or Lukas hadn't had their eyes open. They either had a traitor in their midst or somebody was fucking with the wrong family. Katherine had long since decided upon the latter, but Lukas was quick to point out the fact that Katherine had far too many names on the list for people who could and would betray her trust. Not that he knew which ones were which, but it gave her the excuse to finally pull the plug on a member who had long since stopped being useful. In fact, the paraplegic had been a fine tech analyst some two years back, but Katherine's suspicious had been confirmed that he had been leaking invaluable information to the Montane's. Which meant he needed to be cut and quickly.

"Seriously? You're just gonna have us sit here and brood out a window!? It's Halloween, Kat. Let's go crash the Montane party." Her longtime companion pouted, causing Katherine to roll her eyes while fighting a small grin. Pretending to inspect her nails in a bored fashion, Katherine replied dully, "You're asking me to crash the party of the same family I've already got bad blood with. Not exactly smart, Evie." The blonde snorted. "Don't think that stopped you from egging their venue for their Valentine's Day event." The reminder caused Katherine to chuckle. It was one of her less savory attempts at messing with the Montane's, mostly because she knew they wouldn't do anything foolish over something harmless. Plus, most saw it as a prank by a few jocks at one of the high schools or a dare for some of the nearby college students who were pledging. The Alphas were infamous for making their boys do foolish things. Either way, the entertainment value was always something to look back on.

Still rather bored with the conversation, or not so bored as she was distracted, Katherine inquired, "And what would ever make me want to go to a Montane party? If I wanted actual class, I could have thrown my own event and made one hell of a revenue." Evie rolled her eyes and punched Katherine's arm lightly. "Rudeness!" Katherine's only answer was the twitch at the corner of her mouth, signaling an oncoming smile. From the corner of her sharp eye, she noticed movement and finally saw Ricardo leaving the building. He didn't look in her direction at first, steps firm and robotic almost. However, blue eyes behind dark shades turned in her direction and all it took was one nod to let Katherine know that the job was done, and the sigh she expelled was far too heavy for a woman who had played the Grimm Reaper one too many times before. And despite knowing that Ricardo had been the one to put the pillow over the man's face, Katherine could still feel the life of another man draining out of his body from her own fingertips.

"You know what?" She began and revved the beautiful car up, loving the comfort of the vehicle's smooth purr. However, despite the playfulness in her voice, her face was rather blank. Unfeeling, numb. She turned to Evie a stony stare combined with a smile that was far less mischievous than her signature. "We're gonna get some masks and crash a party." She knew her friend could see more, that she wasn't into it, but a drink or two followed by a distraction in the arms of whoever caught her attention for the evening would be enough to make Katherine forget. Besides, dressing up was a good distraction. She was used to putting on shows anyway. She did it for a living.

Sebastian might have been just a bit irritable by the time he arrived to the airport.

A man who had made it his life mission to be punctual for most events and situations, he was not privy to experiencing flight delays. He had never had a delay in his entire life. It probably had something to do with his father's own military involvement and how punctuality was his one good quality, but thinking about the old man did nothing but bring a dark scowl on Sebastian's face. Back to the point - he was not a happy camper learning that he had to wait for an hour and a half for his flight to leave. To make matters worse, a blonde woman in her forties - in the company of her two teen children, he presumed - decided that Sebastian was just enough eye candy to start hitting on him. The fact that he hadn't even fled to find a liquor cabinet or seedy bar somewhere was all at once shocking.

And emotionally draining.

His phone buzzed had buzzed some moments prior, a text message from his "partner." Sebastian didn't typically have a problem with partners. It was strictly professional, to begin with. He had worked with far too many different people to have an issue with working with someone on a case of a town he was not, in any way, familiar with. oh, he had heard about North Point. His father was friends with some rich tycoon, a Lovell - he honestly couldn't be sure. It had been so many years ago since he had last cared about his father's "business" ventures. What he had been able to squeeze out of his memory and from the supporting evidence (more like rumors people he had asked about the town informed him of) was that the town had their own Shakespearean drama unfolding. It wouldn't have even entertained him as much had his sister not just pranced around with quotes from her new favorite romance, Romeo + Juliet. He didn't care for the reading, just the relevance: two warring households and a whole lot of bloodshed.

What made it worse was the surprise dead body. Murder was not an unfamiliar occurrence in the town, he had been told over the phone, but this was different. Each family treated their victim's corpses in such a way that made it evident which side did it, but no one would ever be able to trace it back to a particular person. There was a signature to each killing, a marking, something left behind - something that, in some tiny way, connected one or the other family to the murder. At the current time, there was nothing for them to kill over. There were no current beefs between the families. To make matters worse, both of their signatures had been on the corpse. Which was why Sebastian had been called.

"Pardon me for a moment, ma'am," he said lowly to the woman beside him, trying his hardest to maintain the charming smile that had her nodding dumbly with a small playing at the left corner of her mouth. Cringing inwardly, Sebastian exchanged an unimpressed look with one of her children before heading over to one of the nearby attendants. "I'm sorry, but is there any that the plane could get here faster? I know you said you had lost the plane...?" The last time he had heard something that absurd had been the Malaysian flight incident and that was enough to have Sebastian fearful of being drawn back to the line of offense. However, the woman's smile brightened.

"Actually, we found it. Somehow, it landed on the other side of the airport. it's currently riding around, so you guys should be leaving in the next thirty minutes. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience and hope you continue to fly with us on Delta Airlines." Sebastian didn't offer a response to that, but he did nod and continue back to his seat. Whipping out his phone to text his partner.

There wasn't a trace of well...anything. Her guess by looking around as long as she did - was that it was scrubbed of evidence. And after that, it was scrubbed again. Paige had found what looked like a spot of unsettled bleach. She didn't even know bleach helped clean a spot like this.

She put the info under the "if I ever kill someone" tab within her brain. The small deductions she made she wrote down in a small notebook with a large glass of wine on the cover. The station made fun of it, but it helped her find her notebook when it got lost in the hazard of papers on her desk at the station.

Paige wasn't the best when it came to paperwork. The dreaded papers were constantly pushed to the side until they were required. Most of it wasn't anything that actually went through anyway. The Montane's and Lovell's disposed of such things. That was the only part of the families crime spree she appreciated. Otherwise, she honestly despised both households.

Ever since she was young, they had been at this war. Constant gossip was circling around the town about the two houses. While she couldn't care less, the town found the juicy gossip entertaining. Paige never attended the parties there either. Everyone was invited. That was common knowledge. The days when the town was quiet and at the parties, she spent in her single bed and bath townhouse drinking a glass of red wine.

Her phone made a small notification sound, which happened to be chimes. Quickly she pulled the device out and saw the text from her new partner. Hell, she thought the delay would be longer. She was glad to know that it'd be sooner. New York to Maine wasn't a long flight thankfully.

To : Sebastian Queen
"Sounds good. I'll see you then. Have a safe flight" she responded quickly before putting her phone away.

She hated not responding to text messages. It was like not responding to a conversation. If Paige didn't respond, something had to be very wrong. Paige was always on call, her phone was always in arms reach. The alley way had nothing more for her. With long meaningful strides she walked back to her car, taking one last look at the scene before getting into her vehicle.

Inside her Smashing Pumpkins CD played. Ever since she was young she wanted to go to one of their concerts. She still did. Paige sung along to 1979 as she backed out of the alley turning the corner into the town. The second crime scene wasn't far, but she had a few thoughts that she wanted to carry out before she went there.

A few people interviewed the people in the town, but it wouldn't be bad to double check. Whoever was in town now wasn't a party goer. Someone had to see something. The town had been her home forever, she knew everyones name. So when she sawMrs. Folley walking outside with her yorkie, she decided to park on the street.

She did a light jog to catch the older woman, and she gave her a warm smile.
"How're you today Mrs.Folley?" Paige introduced as the woman stopped with her dog. She gave Paige a surprised look before pulling her into a hug that she did not expect.
"I haven't seen you since you had braces Paige! Oh my God, how're you dear?" she said as she released Paige. Inside Paige shuttered at the memories of her teenage appearance. She didn't look back on her past, or kept photos of the younger version of herself for a reason.

Diane Folley was one of the neighbors that took car of her when she was young. All until Diane moved to a nicer part of the town. The woman wasn't blind to what was happening in Paige's home, but no one dared interfere.
"Don't remind me of that metal contraption" she grinned before pulling out the notebook from her purse. Mrs.Folley seemed to know where this was headed, as she sat down on a nearby bench. Paige followed and sat next to her.
"I forgot you were a detective now. When Charlie here ran away, I called the cops. I hoped to see you and your lovely fiancee arrive to help me. Yet it was some ol' beer belly" the woman laughed, making Paige nod along before interjecting. "Sam and I aren't together anymore. I'm glad you found Charlie though. I can still recall when you got him. Sadly I'm not here for fun, I have a few questions for you actually" she spoke, Diane's face changed to something far more serious. The woman nodded at Paige.
"There are a few things I could tell you" with that Paige began her interview, and began writing away in the notebook.

Originality wasn't something many of the females at the party seemed to understand. Each woman that came in (if they were single) was dressed as something terribly revealing, and terribly cliche. Not that he minded women under dressing, but it was a damn Halloween party. Could girls dress as anything but sexy bumblebees, cops, firefighters, and cats? A sexy vampire, or cool ass zombie would be fun.

The guys that arrived weren't much better however. Men weren't typically known for their creativity when it came to Halloween costumes. Most guys did the bare minimum. As did Alec. Alec simply put on a black mask so his parents would shut up. His Father was dressed as a pirate, and Mother a witch. Alec laughed at his own humor when somewhere in his head thought that what his Mother was wearing, wasn't just a costume.

When Alec saw that his friend Jason was in the line, he waved him over. His friend was all too happy to oblige cutting the long line. He gave his friend a quick pat on the back. Jason was dressed as a roman, toga and all. Alec did hope his friend was wearing underwear underneath. His friend had the tendency to somehow lose his clothes. Jason was a party animal, and girl magnet. Alec loved hanging out with him for the pure fact that they couldn't have a bad time with one another. There was always some stupid plan, or bad idea.

Jason was the one that also got Alec into smoking. While Jason quit, Alec didn't. His Mother disliked his nasty habit, his Father found it to make his son look more masculine, more intimidating. Which to Mr.Montane, was exactly what his son should be.

Alec didn't mind being any of those things. Except he wasn't really the intimidating type. He was the more, find someone's dirty secret and pull it out when he needed it. He didn't call it being manipulative, as he didn't do so when he didn't need to. Being in the business, he did know how to work people though.

"Get out of that goofy ass greeting line. Cmon" Jason whined with a grin. Alec didn't have to be told twice. His Mother may have given him a dirty look. He may have given her the finger. His friend quickly dragged him to the edge of the pool, where fully clothed people were diving into.

"So Lexi Peterson is here. Lexi Peterson also broke up with her lame ass boyfriend. Who is also here...I think. Anyway, need your help man" Jason spoke quickly, going into detail about the plan. Alec listened with a raised brow. He didn't know why he agreed to being a wing man for someone who obviously didn't need one.
"Fine. You owe me though" Alec said with a grin, getting a nod from his friend. Abrupty a person that splashed fully clothed into the pool got part of him wet and he sighed before looking to Jason.
"Do you even know where she is?" Jason shook his head in response to the question. Alec rolled his eyes. Of course he didn't. Finding her would be the first order of business. It was then they began traveling around the large backyard, trying to find the short blonde girl.

Evie did something that not even Katherine did. She actually straightened the brunette's hair. Once they had left the hospice and Katherine confirmed with her father that his former associate was dead, it didn't take long to get to the blonde's apartment nor did too long for Katherine to figure out that her friend definitely had planned on convincing her to attend the costume party. As soon as they arrived in Evie's two-bedroom apartment, Katherine was shoved into the guest bedroom where a rather interesting costume awaited her. A quick shower and lather of a shimmering lotion later, and she was donning the Egyptian get-up, the iridescent blue-green melding into gold. It was revealing, something Katherine appreciated, but so intricate and unique that she had to thank the fact that her best friend was studying fashion.

"A-ha! I knew it would fit!" Evie exclaimed as she entered the bedroom in a Gypsy costume. Her blonde hair was gathered at the back of her head loosely and she was in the middle of sliding on gold bracelets for both of her wrists. Katherine smirked. "Leave it to you to put so much work into one costume party." Evelyn only tossed Katherine her own smirk, pulling out a flat-iron from one of the dressers. "And leave it to you to act like you're not excited about tonight." And, naturally, she was correct in that assessment. In a sexy ensemble and about to get her hair and make-up done, Katherine did feel better than earlier. She needed that drink still, but more than that, she wanted a little fun.

Fifteen minutes later, both girls were pulling into the large estate with Evie letting Katherine 'play' with her mask in case the guards they had to pass recognized her. They didn't and the girls parked where their own group was waiting for them. Of course, despite not being inside the estate yet, Katherine already knew that she wouldn't be too impressed with the costumes. Every year, people dressed up in the same, boring and rather uncreative ensembles seen on Ebay or in shops. That was what made her parties different from the Montanes, she mused arrogantly. Sure, lavish and flashy parties were always a hit, but so were themes and Katherine was known for her themes. However, this wasn't her party. This was her father's enemy's household and she couldn't concentrate on how unimpressed she wanted to be with the beautiful fountain. This was a party and she was going to enjoy herself. Particularly with the champagne glass she nabbed as they headed around to the backyard where the majority of the guests were.

"I'm guessing this is the part where you abandon me," Evie joked and Katherine only smiled rather innocently, slinking between their friends and away from them. She heard her friend, though, when she stage-whispered, "No pranks!" The only thing she offered was a wave of her hand and fell in line with a crowd of dancers, sipping on her drink and eyeing the festivities.

Thirty minutes passed in a blur for Sebastian. He had already text his sister again, considerably curious about the mysterious date she was on for the night since he had not been aware of it in the final process of packing. Of course, her being Charlotte consisted of her keeping that little fact to herself. Which wasn't something Sebastian felt entitled to, but he was worried. His sister tended to date some unimpressive guys and Sebastian liked reminding her toys that he had guns all over that house and that both siblings were pretty damn good shots. However, he didn't have the opportunity to go into his typical tirades. First class was called for boarding and he had to go.

A few minutes later and he was in a window seat and the plane was lifting off of the ground, forcing Sebastian to grit his teeth. No matter what he did, there was always that pressure building in his ears and he had to clench and unclench his hands to get through the sensation. It didn't help that there was a bit of turbulence considering the rain that had pelted his car on the way to the airport and the fact that a thunderstorm was on its way to their area.

"Not much for flying, huh?" The woman beside him inquired upon seeing his expression and Sebastian forced himself to relax his tense frame. He hummed in agreement. "Something like that." Silence stretched between the duo and Sebastian concentrated his gaze out the window. He was not antisocial, that much he had established. At this time in the evening and about to work on a case such as this one, however, he was not in the mood to make friends. He just wanted to get to his location, dig up some dirt and meet with his partner, and then get something to eat and sleep. A drink would do him good too. However, it didn't seem like his seat partner felt that sentiment for she eyed him a moment longer than the back of his head would have preferred before leaning over to say lowly, "I'm Sarah. And you?" Uninterested, was the initial response echoing in his mind, but Sebastian bit his tongue to keep it from coming out. She didn't have to move that close, brush her fingers against his or even speak in that tone. But she did and Sebastian felt too uncomfortable.

Just ten more minutes. And then he could sneak off to the restroom.

They didn't spend long on the bench outside. Maine was a gorgeous state, but the confidentiality of their conversation felt compromised being outside. She nodded at Mrs.Folley while she began her story, putting up a finger.

"I'm sorry Mrs.Folley, but is there anywhere that we can talk. It's not exactly safe right now to be speaking so freely of things. Call me paranoid" she laughed slightly. Mrs.Folley patted the girl's knee.

"Aw, Little Missy, come inside the shop. Upstairs we can talk safely. If that is confidential enough for you" the older woman laughed softly before standing. Paige honestly found the meeting with Mrs.Folley to be a bit strange. She hadn't seen the woman since she was young. Mrs.Folley of course, knew the horrors of her home. Inside, did secretly despised anyone who knew. Why didn't anyone do anything? Now that she was a detective she knew of all the things that could have been done. Yet she was forced to live through it.

Now her nights were filled with those memories. Little was done to help her forget. Paige just repressed everything to keep herself sane.

Mrs.Folley led her across the street into the store. It was only a store on the first floor. They sold outdoor decor items. Up the stairs the two ladies went to what was actually her home. The slightly dated interior was somewhat comforting. For what reason, she didn't know.

When they sat down on the sofa, Paige swore that a spring was pressing into her. The older woman seemed to not mind at all.
"So Mrs.Folley, what have you seen?" she asked the woman, pulling out her small notepad.

"Not as much as I'd like...or well, what would help you. It was a man for sure. Tall person-"

"Are you certain then? Not all tall people are male. For instance, my Mother was pretty tall" Paige commented, the woman laughed. The older woman took a drink from the cup on the coffee table.
"You're right sweetie. Well whoever it was, was tall. Wore a hoodie, like your Mother did. Was it your Mother, that'd be ironic" Mrs.Folley joked, but Paige didn't find it as funny.

"Ah yes...anyway, hoodie, tall, and anything else Mrs.Folley?" Paige questioned, writing things down. The older woman didn't look she knew much else. There wasn't much she got from her, but it was a start. A slight identification. Paige stood up, putting the notes into her purse.
"Thank you for your time Mrs.Folley, I do really appreciate it. If you think of anything else, please don't hesitate to call me" she spoke with a small smile. Diane stood and pulled her into a tight hug.

"I will. I am sorry about your Mom. I hope she get's better. I pray for you both all the time" Paige didn't say anything in response but giving her a small forced smile before turning to go down the stairs. This was only the first crime scene. The other was a bit more interesting.

Outside she took a breath of the air. Sometimes, the small town wasn't the best. Everyone knew, everything. Forgetting was hard when you were constantly reminded of your past. Stepping into her car she let out a sigh, starting the engine - her music already blaring. The second crime scene was a small drive away.

He needed more drinks in order to even tolerate this. Alec wasn't an alcoholic, but at this moment - he wished he was. His friend dragged him around looking for the woman, and when they did find her, Alec wasn't impressed. Lexi didn't impress him in the slightest. She spoke like a preppy teenager. Using the word 'like' in like, every sentence.

Jason looked like he was about to piss his pants however. He couldn't even form coherent sentences. Like the wingman he was supposed to be, Alec got a drink from the bar. Something strong for him, something fruity for the blonde.

He kept up the confident persona, the black mask, and dark lights helped to keep him somewhat hidden. He tapped her shoulder and grinned.
"Hey, a drink for a pretty lady?" he spoke with a grin. The girl was dressed as a slutty fire fighter. He wasn't surprised. Jason always liked women that didn't leave much to modesty. While, neither did he. But Alec didn't do relationships. He'd dated girls in high school, fucked them, left. When he left high school, he did the same thing. The longest relationship he kept was 7 months.

It was common knowledge that he had commitment issues. The only thing he could commit to, was his family's business. That was something he wanted to actually do. When he took over the business, it would be run differently. He was going to make it more successful then his father ever could.

Not to mention his Mother.

"Hell yeah I want one, like, this party is great isn't it?" she said in her high pitched voice. He nodded.
"Yeah they did a good job, but hey, I don't beat around the bush darling, but it's actually that guy who wanted to give you this. He's a bit of a little bitch, but he's cool" he spoke. The girl laughed, finding his comment to be funny. He didn't find it to be that funny. Rather dry.

He looked to Jason and nodded him over, introducing the two. While his friend had trouble talking, the girl didn't mind talking about herself to him. This gave Alec the perfect chance to run off.

Alec drank half the glass in one long sip. He balanced the drink in one hand while fiddling with the pack of cigarette's in his pocket. Finally after struggling to get one out, the lighter came out as well, flying onto the golden shoe of some girl. Her halloween outfit was rather different, exotic to say the least.
"Can you grab that for me doll?" he asked, looking over to her.

"Of course, sir. It's a lovely event," Katherine replied, the corners of her mouth lifted in amusement at the Montane patriarch. Either he was a lightweight or really into the pirate he was trying to portray, going so far as to accent his voice. Katherine remembered his voice very clearly, which was why she had tensed when she first heard it. It had been clear and hard during an address to the town and she had watched from the shadows upon her father's orders, ignoring the icy chill going down her spine at the age of fifteen when she thought that if the man knew she was so close that he would kill her. Now, he was rather harmless and her makeup and his own intoxication made it hard for him to recognize her. As long as she remained absolutely at ease, there would be nothing wrong.

Only a second later and he was distracted by guests, leaving Katherine to continue her journey through the slowly filling area. She liked the lights they had installed and took another sip of her champagne demurely. Eyes scanning the crowd for her friends, Katherine had turned her head just as a small object hit the top of Giuseppe Zanotti sandals. It took her only a minute to lock eyes with the owner of the voice that called to her and Katherine gave him a slow appraisal, eyes taking their sweet time in taking him in. He was tall, not Luke's tall six-foot-asshole-frame, but definitely taller than Katherine with and without her heels on. He also had a gorgeous set of blue eyes and while Katherine loved all eye colors, she was a sucker for eyes like his. Finally, her gaze drifted to the item that had dropped - a lighter.

It didn't take but a second for her to actually pick the lighter up and she traipsed over to the guy, a slight sway in her hips, a small smirk playing on the corner of her mouth, and her eyes directly fixed on his. She could have very well tossed it to him and went along her merry little way. But she didn't. He was cute and she wanted to play. Just reaching him, Katherine extended the lighter to him, peeking up at his face from beneath her dark lashes. "Now, what's a cutie like you doing all alone at a party like this? Don't tell me your girlfriend left you unprotected."

Sarah eventually learned to take a hint, leaving Sebastian to his staring out the window into the dark, cloudy abyss and his silence. Which was perfectly fine with him because, knowing and yet not knowing what he as about to deal with, that was all Sebastian wanted. Again, a drink would suffice. Hell, a drink sounded like a small piece of heaven. But he knew that wouldn't work, not if he was supposed to be focusing on the case. Or at least, what they could focus on since the crime scene could have very well been cleaned up or Halloween pranks could have tampered with the scene.

So caught up in his head, he had not been aware when the travel time had passed and they were landing in Maine, the small town being about half an hour away from the airport. Which worked in Sebastian's favor because he genuinely didn't know how he would handle a ride that lasted more than an hour and then try to meet with anyone. He wasn't anywhere near tired, but he knew himself. He would have been far too irate to meet with Paige. Hell, too irate to meet with anyone but a mattress. Preferably in a not so seedy motel. Shaking the musings away, he waited to be told when they could exit the plane, gathering his laptop bag and backpack. His suitcase, which his sister had claimed was too small for a fully grown adult, would be waiting on the conveyer belt. "It was nice to meet you as well," he replied to Sarah, who offered him a shy smile now with a twinge of embarrassment since being rejected. Sebastian's smile, in turn, was tight-lipped but not cruel. "And get home safely." He said nothing more after that, allowing her to lead the way out of their seats, past the stewardess and down the pathway that would lead to the sitting area where other passengers would be waiting to board their own planes.

Something or someone was on his side because it didn't take too long for him to retrieve his suitcase nor hail a cab, and Sebastian was quick to text his soon-to-be partner of his arrival.

To: Paige Connery
About 30 mins away. You still there or is there somewhere else you want to meet?

Getting in the cab, Sebastian sat back in the back seat, one leg crossed over the other and rifling through the paperwork he had already gathered about the small town. The driver must have caught a glimpse through the rear view mirror at a particular piece of paper or something for he decided to cut in through the companionable silence, "You new to North Point?" Sebastian only spared him a quick glance upwards before returning his gaze to the documents, responding distractedly but cleverly, "Yeah, I've got business to settle." The driver let out some kind of noise, of what Sebastian found it hard to name. But it didn't take long for the other guy to return his gaze back to the road and continue speaking. "Well, I've been living in this part of Maine for over a decade now and the only kinda business anyone needs to be having in that town is leaving." One of Sebastian's eyebrows quirked, interested. "You don't say?"

The other man only hummed out of confirmation for a moment, no longer speaking and Sebastian could feel the weight of his unspoken words without even knowing what the guy was going to say. The man seemed to shudder for a moment before shaking his head, a look of resignation in his eyes when he finally met Sebastian's gaze again through the rear view mirror. "That town...that town's not good for new people." He seemed to curse to himself, low and on a whisper, but Sebastian caught the tail end of his sentence: "It's not good for anyone."

She didn't leave right away upon entering her car. It still smelled new, yet the vanilla scented clips that were in each of the air vents gave it that undertone. Paige couldn't help but feel ashamed. There was probably more that the woman knew. Things she could have asked to jog her memory. Yet she didn't want to spend another moment with someone that didn't pay regard of bringing up her past.

Not like she could blame the woman, but it was clear she didn't appreciate the jest on her Mother. Despite all that happened, she loved her Mother dearly. Her job made it hard to visit her at the rehab center, but she sent flowers when she could, and visited at least twice a year.

Hell, she wanted a glass of wine now, and a long bubble bath. Preferably with scented candles near as well. It was clear by her home, car, and herself that she enjoyed pleasant smelling things. It was a simple pleasure that kept her sane.

She barely heard the small bubble popping sound of a notification from her phone over the music. Thankfully is also vibrated. The message from her new partner was no surprise. He had arrived much quicker than she thought however, which was a good thing. As soon as he got there, he could maybe find things she couldn't. The agency had to of hired him because he was more skilled in this area. While a blow to her self esteem, she understood.

To: Sebastian Queen
"Talked to a witness, we may have to go back later to further questions. But yes, going to head to the second crime scene. Less secluded. Someone will know something"

Paige texted back, sending the address once again at the end of the message. Hopefully the taxi wouldn't cost him too much. The other body was far different from the first.

Police didn't pay enough attention to the first, they swept the whole case under the rug really, trying to keep it as private as possible. The body that rolled up not even a few days later was stabbed brutally. Anyone could tell that the person doing so had more than a few anger problems. When she was originally called it was a mess, and they did all the could at the scene for evidence, but she was tasked with trying to find someone who saw something. A large mass would say now, but now that the large mass was gone, and only stragglers were around - the idea was more promising.

She began driving to the area. The body was found on the sidewalk of the shopping district of North Point. Another thing that was noted, the victim wasn't killed there. Dumped of course. It didn't take her long due to the lack of traffic, and when she arrived, she did the same thing she did to the first scene. She began snooping around, looking for vantage points, security cameras, anything really.

The lights continued flashing in his eyes, and he couldn't help but furrow his brows, wishing the mask he wore could be conveniently replaced with sunglasses. Though if he wore those, he'd look like a major douche. Sunglasses at night.

Even with the lights bothering him, it was clear to see that the woman in front of him was sizing him up with her eyes. She almost made him feel small, the way she looked at him like prey. There was something in her eyes, like she was a predator. He couldn't help but be captivated by that.

Being a man however, he also was captivated with the way the beaded costume hugged her. Like a teasing game, whenever she moved - even idly, the outfit did as well, revealing different parts of skin, yet, leaving the best hidden. He couldn't help but grin when he looked at her.

The way she moved towards him, the sway in her hips was noted. He plucked the lighter lightly from her fingers. Taking the cigarette that he had gotten loose from the pack he put it in his mouth, lighting it quickly. Through large dark lashes she peered up at him, and the smirk that played on her lips matched her words.

Cute was something he wasn't typically called, and a girlfriend? He supposed it'd be rude to tell her that he'd rather drink sewage than be hitched to a person. He mimicked the sly smile she wore as he spoke.
"Is cute the real word you'd use? That doesn't hurt my tender ego" the humor in his voice apparent, "Even a girlfriend wouldn't be able to protect me. Real question is, why are you here by yourself, more specifically, not partying. Don't tell me you don't drink" he grinned, take a long drag from his cigarette, taking it from his mouth and tapping the ash onto the grass.

"Is Mr.Boyfriend out of town for Halloween, leaving you to dress up all alone?" he asked, honestly, he wouldn't be surprised if she had a boyfriend. Looking like that, there was no way in hell there wasn't at least someone. If there wasn't, she was either someone scared of commitment (which also seemed rare, as every woman he'd been with wanted to get married in the near future), or had some shit seriously wrong with her.

Katherine felt the left corner of her mouth twitch upwards at the befuddlement that seemed to appear on the man's face only a second before he released his small jest. He amused her, she liked that decidedly. And when he turned the questioning on her, Katherine didn't even try to fight the giggle that bubbled forth. In fact, she welcomed it. "Trust me, sugar. I drink. I just haven't found anything," she drifted off purposefully, eyeing him surreptitiously, "strong enough. Or at least to my liking anyway." Which was the truth. Katherine hadn't seen the actual bar yet, so as far as she was concerned, this was where the Montane's parties lacked. Katherine had full bartender service at every corner of her events. Theirs were hidden and it was highly unnecessary.

But of course, why waste her time judging a family that was unaware of her presence when this cutie - and she decided that she'd continue to call him that for the night - was standing close? Katherine watched the way his lips closed over the cigarette, the way his eyes closed for just that moment of dragging in the smoky contents, and the way his shoulders relaxed after a heavy exhale of smoky. She had never been much of a fun of cigarettes, preferring things like sweet-smelling blunts. Katherine wasn't a smoker, to be completely honest, but she had long since made it her mission to not allow something as minuscule as the scent of one measly item affect her. So, she let him distract her, which wasn't hard considering he was quick to question her again. Another question which caused her to laugh just a little.

Boyfriends and Katherine...they just didn't seem to be in the cards for her. Luke would be too adamant about using them against her and honestly, she was too dark for one. Katherine forced herself to not allow the thoughts to creep onto her face, shoving the self-hate behind a lascivious smile. "Nope, no boyfriend. Not that many out there that can handle all of this." Purposefully, Katherine stepped closer to him, the tips of her fingernails of her left hand slowly tracing up his chest until she cut off at his collarbone, bee-lining for the cigarette he held. Deftly, Katherine eased it from his fingers before sliding the stick to her own lips, taking a small drag and then giving it back. On an exhale of smoke with the taste lingering in her mouth alongside the champagne from earlier, she purred, "Besides, I like a little adventure. Don't you?"

Over the course of the ride to the location of the second crime scene, Sebastian carefully drilled his driver for more information about the families. Of course, there had been some resistance but if there was one thing that was apparent, it was that Sebastian's suave mannerisms from before had not left him. He just knew when and where to use them. More than that, it came out when he decided it should. It got him the results that he liked, especially considering what wasn't said. What was said was what he had already established from paperwork: these two families really did run the town. Both had even controlled the mayoral election until one's candidate one. Even then, both seemed continue to hold sway over each and every citizen of their town regardless of the other powers - or at least, the powers that should have been present. The mayor, the police task force, the citizens - they cowered under these rivals like ants beneath the toes of humans, whimpering and conceding and eternally grateful for whatever show of kindness that happened to be bestowed upon them.

The unspoken was the rage, particularly from the driver himself. His voice was shaky, but hardened by his hate and his large hands gripped the steering wheel with such strength that his knuckles turned white. His entire body seemed to radiate with combined fear and anger, the slight tremor in him notable. In the midst of explaining how the people lived - in their purposefully oblivious and submissive ways - he had sped up, and Sebastian did not question it. If it got him to where he needed to be faster, then that was fine with him.

But it also made the situation that much more of a reality. Sure, New York elite played it dirty and controlled the city, indeed. But a small town like this where being too opinionated could have you killed and no one would even flinch or blink an eye? It was unnerving. More than that, it was the worst way to live and Sebastian had sacrificed too much for this country to be alright with citizens being afraid every day of their lives. It wasn't like he had a plan for the families or anything, but he also didn't know if he could just sit back and let them do as they pleased. If that had been what was expected of him, then he should never have been called.

Before long, they were pulling up to the shopping district. Sebastian hadn't truly been taking in the scenery like he normally did upon driving into foreign territory, and made it his mission to run through the town the next morning. Asking the driver to pull up by a particularly empty store (one of the few bereft of any light), Sebastian thanked the driver. giving him an extra tip for the information, and then grabbed his things. Once seeing the driver off, he crossed the street to the more clustered section of the shopping district. There were still a few stragglers, girls with bags talking animatedly as they approached a Porsche. A couple dressed as the Joker and Harley Quinn. A woman and her three fairies on their way to the nearby homes to trick-or-treat. Sebastian took all of that in, gripping his shoulder bag tightly. Going closer to the murder scene, he tensed, taking in a lone figure.

"Detective Connery," he called to the slim figure, voice holding a small edge as he neared her. "Sebastian Queen, one hell of a night to be doing a murder investigation, don't you think? Find anything yet?"

There wasn't much to be seen, that wasn't seen before. Of course they took pictures when the body was first found, but there always seemed to be something they missed. Of course this was the body in which the body was obviously placed to get attention. Sadly, everyone knew the murder victims. Both of them were in Paige's graduating class. She didn't know if it made her cold hearted to say she didn't mourn them. Paige did feel bad, and thought it unfortunate - but she didn't know them personally. One of these days she would need to meet with the families of the victim to question them further. That was the hard part of her job. Like pouring salt in a wound, she hated having to make a family think of their deceased member.

The area was luckily still off limits by the yellow police tape, and within it there was nothing but chalk outlines and marks of evidence. The evidence was already at the labs however. Paige didn't understand how someone could get a body here without being noticed. She stood inside the chalk outlines of the body and searched the area around. When she spotted a security camera from the store across that pointed straight at her, she held her breath. That camera could have seen something.

Paige pulled out her notebook to write down the observation, something to follow up on later. It was then she jumped out of her skin at the unknown voice that resinated from behind her, only getting louder. She turned on her heel to see who it was, and at that moment she felt very small.

A tall, obviously fit, and blue eyed man looked at her. It only struck her that this was Sebastian Queen when he introduced himself casually. At least he could joke slightly about the ironic timing of the case. Paige had barely noticed that point. Sadly the children that visited her town home would be disappointed about the lack thereof candy.
"Mr.Queen, I'm glad to finally meet you. It does seem this case has a sense of humor at least" she said with a shy smile, extending her hand towards the man as he approached her. "Paige Connery. I hope your flight went well. Those delays had to have been terrible" she tried to make small talk, not wanting to bombard him with the case so soon, but she couldn't help herself.

"I just realized the camera at that T-Mobile is staring directly here. Maybe they captured something. It's strange that no one saw anything," she gestured to the area "Considering this not very hidden location" Paige spoke, resting her arms across her chest before growing wide eyed.

"My, I'm sorry. You probably want to check into your hotel, and get a rental car, possibly something to eat"

While the smoke entered his lungs, it didn't help clear his head. Even now with his smoking habit, he was unsure of why he did so. The rolled up tobacco did little to clear his head, only to suppress an urge. It didn't help the fact he swore he could hear his Mother's annoying ass voice scolding him from all the way across the party. He knew it was in his head, but the woman could haunt him in his dreams really.

There was a pretty girl in front of him though, that even seemed interested in him. Now wasn't the time to think on his mommy issues. They did a good job on dampening his mood. Thankfully alcohol did a better job on lifting his spirits. He grinned at the dark haired girl. She claimed she couldn't find a drink strong enough for her. A shot off vodka seemed like it would throw the slender girl off her balance. He hadn't met many women in his time that could handle their liquor.
"There's a perfectly stocked bar around the corner, Cleopatra" he decided on the nickname. "I'm sure there's something fruity and potent enough for you somewhere" Alec grinned, adjusting the mask upon his face.

He didn't mean to laugh when she stepped forward after introducing herself as too woman for a man to handle, but something told him it was true. She was far more headstrong then many women he'd met, and he had only been talking to her for a few minutes. A cocky grin came onto his face when light fingers trailed up his chest. A tease is what his friends would call her. He'd use some other term. Something like tantalizing.

When he was about to take another long drag of his cigarette, it was taken by Miss.Cleopatra. Alec watched her intently as she took an inhale of the smoke, the embers on the end falling to the ground between them (by luck really). As lightly as she took it from him, he took it back, taking a drag from the now lipstick stained stick. The smirk didn't leave his face as she spoke. While she had already touched him, he wasn't one to over step his boundaries.
"Only a little?" he raised a brow "I don't do 'only a little' he quoted" flicking the cigarette to the ground, stomping it out lightly before looking back at her.
"And why do I feel like you don't either"

Katherine had laughed upon being called Katherine, hand rising to attempt to cover the wide smile on her face. She suspected that if Evie hadn't already seen her now, the blonde would have a field day. She always seemed to be amused whenever Katherine wound up flirting with someone. Katherine simply would call it having some fun, Evie would say that she was on the prowl. And maybe her friend was right, especially since Katherine had caught herself in the beginning eyeing the male before her like something that needed to be consumed. Maybe because that was what she did - consume, take until there was nothing left. She was selfish like that. He looked like he'd let her be selfish and with enough drinks in her system, maybe she'd learn to not care for the night.

An eyebrow rose instinctively when her masked man made his declaration and the corner of Katherine's already uplifted mouth twitched with interest. Her eyes flickered to his mouth only momentarily when he had taken a drag of the cigarette, rising back to his as the ever-present smirk appeared on her face once more. "Well, you get a drink in me and maybe you'll get to find out," she retorted on demand and made a waving motion with her hand, signalling him to lead the way since she had clearly not seen where this supposed bar was located. "Lead the way, Zorro. Which is your new name, by the way. Surprised you don't even have the sword." Besides, if he was going to be allowed to give her a nickname for the night, then surely enough Katherine could do the same. After all, she wasn't the type to be outdone. Especially on a night such as this.

"I've learned in this lifetime that a sense of humor can be a refreshing thing," Sebastian said to Paige as they shook hands. He had always had a steady, somewhat firm handshake. Something he'd soften in the face of women and Sebastian...Sebastian had always been aware of how large he appeared. Sutton blamed it on their father's side of the family, his mother used to blame it on Sebastian being such a good boy who ate all of his vegetables. That was also when he was five and it was ridiculous for the thought to even cross his mind. Perhaps it was because Sebastian was trying not to distract himself with Paige Connery's eyes.

He had always liked the color green. It had been his favorite color as a kid and he had had a fuzzy pair of emerald green pajamas his father had hated, but his mother had no shame in letting him wear. But her eyes, especially in the night, were dark and green and vibrant as they caught a wayward beam from a nearby light pole. And she had such an uncertain grasp on his hand when they shook hands, shy - making her smaller hand seem that much smaller. He allowed himself to chuckle lightly at the memory of the memory of the delays, a hand rising to rub at the back of his head as if to wipe away the earlier frustration. "Yeeeeaahhhh, definitely not New York's finest hour, I can tell you that."

Sebastian would have asked briefly about herself, just to continue the small talk since they would have to work together, when Detective Connery glanced over to the store in question. Sebastian followed her line of vision and his eyes narrowed thoughtfully. "More than that, the fact that, considering the violent nature of the death, no one was here to witness it or hear a thing," he added while running his eyes over the area. "Small town or no, there are always stragglers at shopping centers or at least in the surrounding neighborhood, regardless of unspoken curfews. Someone had to have heard...something." It truly was peculiar. Small town cases were typically ones Sebastian found that held the most complication, but Paige had a point. The camera should have caught something, the people who owned the footage should have reviewed it, and there was just a lot of questions for a night that only spelled trouble. But Paige brought his attention to another matter.

"Actually, I would like to check in. I highly doubt the morgue would be open this late anyway. Would you mind giving me a ride?" He asked, eyes turning back to her with a cordial, slightly warmer smile.

Everything about this detective has caught her off guard. From the firm but soft handshake, to the relaxed personality he had. Though Paige was glad to not have a brooding ass as a partner. Time would tell on who this Sebastian Queen character would turn out to be, but her first impression was one that wasn't bad at all.

Paige couldn't help the small laugh that came along with his recollection of the flight.
"Well I'm sure New York has some redeeming qualities that will allow you to forgive the uncanny timing of your flight." The detective had never been to a big city such as New York. Her job didn't allow her the luxury to travel. When she did it was often nearby states, or some different part of Maine.

It seemed he had the same ideas she did with the nature of the crime. Someone had to see something. In North Point everyone saw everything. The thing is, Sebastian didn't yet have the slightest idea on the personality of North Point. If someone hadn't said anything yet, it was likely they wouldn't. Paige only knew that meant she had to press the matter to the community more. Which also meant that the department would further frown upon her.

"You have a lot to learn about this hell of a city Mr.Queen" she grinned as she dug her car keys from her pocket. Paige clicked the unlock button, her car's lights illuminating in the dark.
"Of course. I'm sure you're exhausted. Do you know what hotel you're staying at? There are a few I would advise against, simply because of the owners" The trunk clicked open in the car, and she went to move a simple duffle bag she had in the back to the far back. Call her paranoid, but it was a rather intricate bug out kit. Paige was a neat person, so the interior of her car was as fresh and new as the day she got it. In the back seat a new bottle of red wine was in a paper bag, and she hoped it wouldn't make her look like some type of alcoholic.

"Feel free to put your things in the trunk" she called out to him before entering the driver's seat. While she waited, she couldn't help but look at him ever so often in the rearview mirror. It wasn't like she felt bad for doing so. The moment she laid eyes upon him it was clear he was an attractive man. Though what struck her the most was the way he carried himself. Like he was conscious of all his movements. She wasn't 5, she was 26 for christ sake. This was a strictly professional setting.

Shaking her head she flipped through the CD book in the glove box, changing the Smashing Pumpkins to a Red Hot Chili Peppers track. Stadium Arcadium to be specific.

When she covered her mouth when smiling, he didn't know why she did. She had a beautiful smile. Her smile wasn't something cute and innocent. It was sinister, yet sexy. It was a beautiful sight that he was disappointed in not seeing its entirety. Alec wasn't stupid. She looked like a predator, and he was simple prey. But he didn't mind in the slightest. It was a nice switch. It wasn't called being used if you allowed yourself to be. And something in him didn't mind being the victim of this hell of a woman.

She wanted a drink, he would oblige her. He placed a hand on the small of her back and led her forward towards the large back. It was true, it was a bit out of the way, but it wasn't he that planned the party. That drink sounded all too good now. It was late enough in which he wouldn't mind one.

"You're telling me, that you didn't see the shit load of people waiting for a drink?" he questioned with a raised brow, smirking down at her. Alec wasn't oblivious to the tall heels. He wondered how tall she really was without the shoes. He wasn't the tallest of his friends, but he was tall enough to be considered as such.

He stepped in line with the girl at his side and dug back into his pocket for another cigarette. It was common knowledge that he smoked just a little bit too much. He went through a pack a day at the least. 2 Packs if he was dealing with more bullheaded of people.

"So can you even handle a drink, or do we need to get you a watered down Margarita" his grin all too knowing of her answer.

Katherine did not object, at all, when a large hand was pressed into the small of her back and fought the shiver that swept through her at the contact. The multi-colored ensemble covered the goods, but left some skin vulnerable and it was basically backless save for the flimsy gold chains that could easily be ripped off. He could probably rip it off. His hand was large and warm, and he looked strong enough. He probably was really good at ripping things. Maybe Katherine needed that drink, after all. Her mind was having way too much fun over something as simple as contact. She brushed it off by swiping at one of the loose strands of her hair, painting on a lascivious smile as she allowed him to lead her.

She laughed unabashedly when he pointed out the long line, which honestly had not looked like a line when she had first appeared. It was a crowd of people in a crowded party laughing with strangers and holding drinks already in their hands. Her heels were helpful, but she was still small, much to her own chagrin. The bar was almost barely visible now that he was pointing it out to her, so she shrugged before glancing back up at his face, a smirk forming once more. "Well...maybe I could a little...sidetracked," she piped up suggestively with a little sly grin forming on her lips. She allowed her gaze to travel over him, unashamed, before meeting his gaze again and then turning away with an all lascivious smile. "Maybe that's the allure of Halloween. An excuse to...get sidetracked...get captivated...maybe even a little...dirty." Evie had always said that Katherine never really cut to the chase, never had much of any shame. And if her friend heard her or seen the glint in her eyes, she would be absolutely right.

As they stood in the line and waiting for it to dwindle down, Zorro decided to make a joke about what her order might be and she chuckled, playing with the ends of her long dark hair. Pausing only for a minute, Katherine eyed Alec soon afterwards, face nearly blank before a grin formed on her face. Not caring about the gaze of irrelevant party guests, she stepped close enough to her masked man until there was virtually no space between them, his arm pressed right into her cleavage, her lips just barely reaching his ear as she purred lowly, "The thing is, Zorro, I like my liquor like I like my men. Smooth, but hard." She lingered there only for a moment, allowing the scent of her sweet yet spicy perfume to waft towards his nose before pulling back on a giggle, the picture perfect visage of sly innocence. "Think you can get that for me?"

Sebastian was pleased that they were on the same page in regards to the case and the lack of surveillance, or the fact that there probably was surveillance and either someone tampered with it or just didn't check. Either way, it was something he wanted to tackle in the morning, preferably after he'd been able to shower the day and travel off of his body, maybe get some food into his system, and fall into a warm bed. The idea was even more appealing as he followed Detective Connery to her car, eyes roving over the area discreetly as they walked. It wasn't too out of character for him to observe his surroundings. Sebastian had learned his lesson twice about not watching out for enemies in the dark and he had about four scars to prove the lesson well learned.

He had to rack his brain for a moment to remember the exact name of the motel he was staying at. It seemed a bit nice, one of the nicer ones he had looked up. Well, it was more of his sister looking things up while Oliver packed and her begging him not to stay at some place called the Dungeon because...ummm, no. And something about eeeeewwwww but she had also made a noise that made him feel like cleaning his ears out for days, so he had crossed it off his list. "Hmmm, Paschal's? You familiar with that one?" He inquired over his shoulder as he hurried to do as she instructed and put his bag into the trunk. Shutting it back, he clamored over to the passenger side and slid into the vehicle with a bit of an effort considering his overall size. Not something Sebastian wasn't already very familiar with doing. It was one of the reasons why he preferred bigger trucks. However, somehow the idea of Detective Connery's car fit her and he really should remind himself to be professional. No distractions. He scarcely dealt with such in his personal life and being in a foreign area should not suddenly be able to change his mind.

Even if she had some really lovely eyes.

Leaning back into the seat, and having to adjust it a bit to accommodate his long legs, Sebastian finally allowed his gaze to drift onto her lovely face before noting the music. "Nice choice. My sister would love you by now, by the way. It's her favorite song and suddenly her ringtone for me, surprisingly."

She took a moment before even taking the car off park. Paige was familiar with that hotel, and it by far was the best the small town had to offer. Probably the most publicized as well. Thankfully the hotel was owned by corporate men instead of local townies.

"Good choice. There are a few smaller ones that have good reputations, but the people can be...sketchy to say the least. That's a common pattern in North Point though" she said, finally leaving the parking spot. The hotel was on the other side of the town, which would result in a decent enough drive.

She noticed he had to adjust his seat, and couldn't help but grin. Being that tall had to have those kind of disadvantages. She wasn't short, nor was she tall. Paige found herself somewhere in the middle.

In the dark she turned on high beams in case of stupid trick or treaters. Looking over to him momentarily she raised a brow.
"Well you sister has impeccable music taste then" she grinned. "I would have something more creative as a ringtone, but it's already challenging enough to be taken seriously in my department" she said, quickly realizing the fault of her words that she let slip.

"But anyway, hopefully with your help we can wrap this case up quickly. It's more than unfortunate. North Point is unique in the sense that everyone knows everyone, Mr.Queen. Sadly our department is restricted when it comes to certain crimes. If they requested you, that means we have an actual chance in solving something" she sighed, but a glimmer of optimism remained. Truthfully, she didn't know how much she'd actually get done in the presence of her new partner.

"What kind of music do you listen to Mr.Queen? Please tell me it isn't country"

Alec hadn't ever met anyone as direct as little miss Cleopatra. She didn't mind the "bold" move to place his hand where he did. Not that it was really bold, more along the lines that she didn't mind it. That was something a bit different.

Once they stopped in the line she looked up at him with a smile he'd never be able to forget. The only word that continued to pop into his head was : danger. Her suggestive words had him raising a brow at her, his grin matching her seductive one.

"I think your definition of Halloween is far different than what I was raised to believe" he began with a mirth of a grin "But your definition also sounds far more interesting. You may want to go into detail doll, I'm not sure I get the entire picture yet" he said coyly.

There was a definite moment of pause before she closed what space was left between them. His arm was stuck between her beaded bra, and from her expression she saw nothing wrong with that fact.

The alluring smell that filled his nose fit her, all the while her breath tickled his skin, and her words were all the more alluring. Yet the way she phrased it made him burst out laughing. He stopped himself after a few moments, but only found himself shaking his head at her.

"Oh doll, I can get that for you, and much much more. But really, what would I get in return Cleopatra?" he questioned with pseudo intention, his hand raking down her spine as they moved forward in line, almost to the bartender. When they were finally there he let his hand fall, grazing down her backside.

"For the lady, a Rob Roy, and I'll take an Alabama Slammer" he requested as the bartender simply nodded. He pulled cash from his pocket and left the twenty there. To him, money wasn't an object. He never did such actions to show off, but he didn't like wasting time.

Their drinks were set onto the counter and he grabbed them as soon as they were done. Alec handed the orange scotch drink to her.
"Enjoy" he said as he lifted his own drink a took a long swig.

Oh, Katherine could definitely give Zorro a good amount of details if he wanted. All he had to give was the time and place, and she would volunteer herself as tribute. The thought might have come off as what Evie would call "thirsty" or someone else would typically say desperate, but Katherine didn't care. In her mind, she had had a rotten day, he was fine, and she could leave all of her baggage and him in the bedroom or closet they found themselves bumping uglies in.

There was something about Zorro's laughter that made her smile feel a bit more genuine than Katherine normally allowed and she could only giggle a little to herself, forgetting about the fact that they were in a line and there were still other people standing all around them. Especially when his fingers seemed to become rather familiar with the skin over the line of her spine, causing Katherine's eyes to flutter shut momentarily as a shiver of anticipation rippled through her. Peeking up at him under her lashes, she only gave a sly wink before replying, "And spoil the surprise? There's no fun in that, Zorro."

Appreciatively, when the time came, Katherine received her drink, not even batting an eye when Zorro whipped out money or even the drink choice. It was more of Evie's favorite than her own, but Katherine liked it enough and it would satisfy her...for now. She didn't want to be too drunk to forget the fun she was bound to have. Just drunk enough to not care about it when it was over. She lifted her drink demurely before enjoying a large intake of it. It was a touch sweeter than the one she was used to, but enjoyable enough. Stepping out away from the line of people still trying to order, Katherine plucked the cherry off and still keeping her eyes on Zorro, slid the fruit between her lips, plucking it off the stem with her tongue and slowly chewing on the food in her mouth. When that was done, Katherine decidedly closed the distance between their bodies with a grin while stating, "So...I do believe, Mr. Zorro, that this the part where we skip this little foreplay and get to the good stuff. Unless, of course, you're not up to the challenge?"

When they were both settled in the car and Paige was pulling away, Sebastian found himself chuckling gently at her admitting that the people of North Point could be sketchy. If there was one thing he was starting to notice, it was that Paige Connery had an honest air about her. She didn't seem to hold much back and for that, he was appreciative. Granted, this was only an assessment he was able to find in the first few minutes of them meeting and only time would tell, but still, the idea of it was refreshing. Too many people back home thought being purposefully elusive was attractive. Sebastian did it because he honestly didn't want people around him often. Others thought it was the way of life, leading to hour-long conversations when point black facts or opinions would have sufficed. Which was another reason why he was more than pleased to have left his family home with his sister in tow.

With his thoughts returning to his sister, Sebastian's attention momentarily flickered to his phone, which he pulled out. She had text him twice, and in the midst of responding to her, Paige spoke up once more in response to her music tastes. A small smile formed on his face as he thought of the sister that would play music loudly and dance in the kitchen cooking waffles with the scent of coffee and bourbon in the air. She was eccentric and wilder than he, but was also the only person in this world he could honestly say he liked at this point. And there was no one else he loved more.

If Paige was worried about her verbal slip, that wasn't what Sebastian had focused on in that moment afterwards. It was her facial expression; the words were filed away almost as swiftly as she tried to move the conversation along, but her face turned...wistful? Perhaps that was the word. However, it was gone an instant and he hummed thoughtfully. "As much as I appreciate the thought, it honestly depends on how actually...open the town is to outside opinions. In my experience...law enforcement, despite someone else going over their heads for the help, never actually want someone there. Not if it means they don't get the glory." Sebastian to that end honestly could care less about that. All he cared about was ending the brutal murders before it became a killing spree.

While finishing the messaging with his sister, Sebastian paused at being asked his favorite genre of music, chuckling again when Paige begged him not to like country. He could have very well ended the conversation by stating that he didn't have a huge preference for music and inadvertently asked for silence. However, the mood of the car was far more relaxed than he had ever thought it would be and Sebastian couldn't find it in him to ruin that. "For the record, Rascall Flatts is pretty awesome, thank you," he retorted playfully with a small grin tossed Paige's way. He even tried pretending to be a bit more passionate about it. "Johnny Cash and Tim McGraw just really speak to the soul." A beat later, he sobered up, still grinning, to simply add, "But in all seriousness, I'm a very boring person, Detective Connery. I don't have a set preference in music, I'm afraid. I just turn on the radio and whichever station happens to fit my mood, that's what I listen to. I can assure you that you'll be more than ready to get rid of me when the time comes."

Not only was the man in her car strikingly handsome, but he could also take a joke. Paige was pleasantly satisfied with her new partner so far. Her luck though, he'd end up to be some crazed man or stalker. Her last relationship already ended in flames. Needless to say, relationships were now a thing Paige didn't even like to talk about.

Never had there been a healthy relationship in her life. Looking back on her ex-fiance, she could now see the signs. Her Father being abusive, her mother being an addict, and ex being a cheater - she could only think her boss was stealing money from her paycheck, which he probably was. She never liked her superior, any cop in North Point were shifty. Especially because of the damn Montane's and Lovell's .

At Sebastian's self degrading joke about how she'd want him to leave, she made a shocked face, putting a hand dramatically over her heart.
"I could never get rid of you Mr.Queen, in fact - I was pegging on next Christmas you inviting me to New York for Christmas" she joked before shaking her head.

"Honestly, I'm glad we have an outside look upon this. It's hard enough for cops to take these things seriously here. All of them are far too afraid to do anything" she spoke, giving him the blatant truth. She'd leave out the bits about the cops are nearly blackmailed to do such things like looking the other way. The two families had connections everywhere, it wouldn't be hard for them to make your life harder.

To Paige, she really didn't have anything to lose anymore.

Turning the corner she pulled into the parking lot of the hotel. It wasn't a five star establishment, but it was nicer than anything else around. It was overlooking the beach though, which she found to be rather nice. She parked in front of the entrance.
"I can bring your things over if you'd like to check in" she offered.

Honestly, he needed the drink. Even with the beautiful girl in front of him, his head still throbbed with the thoughts of his Mother, and all the things that he would need to take care of within the next day. Being the heir to such a name was sometimes a curse.

Alec couldn't complain too much though. This was what he was good at - the whole business. Keeping it a float, talking to people, finding "solutions" to ugly problems they encountered.

When she winked up at him, he could only see the mischief in her eyes. It continued in his head that she was a dangerous woman to be around. The kind that becomes addicting, but he couldn't make himself walk away if he tried. He was in too deep. And in his brain, what was the consequence of only one night?

Feeling her press against him had him biting the inside of cheek to try to keep his cool in the public setting. He couldn't look like a sex crazed dog who jumped at the first woman who gave him an ounce of attention. He had his own reputation to upkeep.

"What if I happen to like the foreplay Cleopatra? What if..." he paused for momentary effect, "I like seeing you all hot and bothered" he raised a brow at her, taking steps back to get them out of the crowd. He tried to think on where they could go to get a sliver of privacy. While voyeurism wasn't something he disliked entirely, he'd rather not shag someone in the midst of a dance circle.

He was able to walk into the corner of the mansion, only shrubs were around, as were the dark corners in between pillars. People were far too busy to notice them here. Though someone had been in the area, because he could still smell the pot in the air.

While Zorro spoke like a man with all of the confidence in the world, his countenance gave a hint of a different story. When Katherine drew herself closer to him, she saw the momentary pause in his everything, the flash of heat in his eyes, the tick in his jaw. It made her smirk all the more fitting for she liked the idea of having an effect on him. Having an effect meant getting a reaction and if getting a reaction meant somebody's clothes off sooner rather than later, then she could get right on with this ship. Be the passenger, first mate, and captain all rolled up in one, if she received some gratification. Or, at least a release from the day.

Which was why she laughed lightly when he decided to tease her. They were edging away from people now, to a slightly private place that honestly should not have thrilled her as much as it did. People could and possibly would see them, whatever they did. And Katherine wasn't a typical exhibitionist, but she was adventurous enough not to be bothered about being caught. So, without preamble, she took another sip of her drink before setting it down in the cool grass, rising again only to return her attention to her masked companion. Katherine faintly ignored the smell of fresh weed in the air, opting only to keep her gaze on the man before her, a light thrum of excitement rippling through her. "Well, you see Zorro, why waste your time seeing me all hot and bothered..."[/i] Katherine's hand found his again and this time, unabashedly, she led his hand to the small of her back, just barely ghosting over the top of her derriere with a growing grin. "...when you can see me hot, bothered, and naked?"

She pulled him closer until her back was pressed against the cold, hard pillar and he was flush against her front. Her arms rose to his neck, not a hint of hesitation in her movements as she moved so that their mouths were only so far apart. "It's definitely a much better show. Scout's honor." Though, she was pretty sure girl scouts around the world would be appalled at her using their oath when her thoughts were far more salacious than their building business women in young girls and her mouth had currently closed on his. Oh, well. Not like Katherine had ever claimed to be good, anyway.

Paige Connery was an amusing soul and for that Sebastian was grateful. The last thing he had wanted (but had expected, more or less) was a partner with an attitude. Complete and utter god-complex from a small town in the middle of bumfuck-nowhere (and he honestly didn't mean it to come out, even in his head, as prejudiced as it was) with a desire to thwart his efforts at every turn. Sadly enough, despite the amount of deaths and such he had seen in the past, situations like those were bound to happen. And no matter how many times Sebastian had been called by a higher-up - no matter how much someone else entrusted him with the responsibility of doing something as simple as providing aid - there was always that attitude.

But then there was Paige and she was light-hearted (it seemed) and it made him lower his guard enough to laugh lightly. It wasn't a full one where his entire frame shook and he couldn't control himself, but it came from deep within his abdomen and he couldn't help the honest-to-God smile on his face when she made light of using him to come to New York for the holidays. Her dramatics - her energy - was welcome after the evening he had and despite knowing what they would have to deal with

When her mood sobered up and she offered a sign of appreciation to him being present for their current predicament (and the onslaught of unnecessary and unjust murders), Sebastian only remained silent for a moment, peering out the window at the stores they passed before glancing back over to her. "Fear can be debilitating, but it's no excuse for what's happened. I only hope we can stop...whatever this is before more lives are taken. This goes any farther, and they won't have to worry about some random detective from the big city. You'll have federal agents on your case." Which was where things got complicated and there were some things that even his army affiliation could not keep Sebastian safe from. If there was one group he detested more than small town law enforcement, it was the big-shot federal agents. They always rubbed him the wrong way and he would rather get through the case than have to collaborate with them.

When they pulled into the parking lot of the hotel and Paige offered her assistance, Sebastian appreciatively shook his head. "Please, don't worry about it. I can get it. It's probably been a long day for you and I don't want to be a bother."

Paige turned her head to look at him when she heard the slight laughter. Upon first meeting him, she doubted the man could even smile. Luckily she was wrong, and wasn't stuck with a total prude. She had the feeling she wouldn't need to worry about the man in her passenger seat. Initially she thought an agent coming to town would be a haughty cocky ass. So far, she stood corrected.

She nodded at his aspiration to close the case, and was refreshed to know he seemingly shared the same passion as she to end it. His talk of federal agents bombarding the case struck a small match of worry. Federal agents would only do hard to the small town. The skeltons in the closet would come out, and the closet would prove to be a graveyard. Paige wanted to do right in her town, but opening all the things at once would only cause far more problems than it would fix.
"I'm going to hope we catch this person before more people are killed as well. I'd rather not have more people fly into this little town - no offense...ah, personally, I don't mind the change. The town gets rather boring, but the people here - they do mind" Paige said, babbling.
"I'm sorry, I don't mean to talk your ear off. I don't typically have people in my car, let alone another detective. If you weren't here I'd just be screeching in the tune of the music" she stopped herself. Paige took a breath before unlocking the car and popping the trunk.

"It really isn't a bother, but if you insist. If you need anything don't hesitate to call. We can figure everything else out in the morning"

Alec had no problem being forward. Hell, in his occupation, being forward was something smiled upon. But never had he met a girl as forthright as she. He couldn't get over the predatory gaze she kept on him. Like she was sizing him up or trying to figure him out. Luckily in a mask, figuring out a person in a mask wasn't the easiest objective to have. He liked having his identity conceled. There was no false potrayals simply because of his lineage. Just simple flirtation, and hopefully more by the end of the night.

Besides, it made it all the easier to part ways.

"I like how you think" he murmured against her lips before they were upon each other. The kiss lasted all but a second until he moved his mouth lower on her skin, kissing down her neck to reach her shoulder. His hands had their own agenda. They fell lower on her body, resting on her ass before her gave the flesh a tight squeeze through the beaded material.

His body so close to hers, he could feel the sped up heartbeat against his chest. Alec's hands moved forward to grab her hips, pulling her even more flush against him, his lips heading back to her perfect mouth. He'd gotten with pretty girls in the past, beautiful even. But it didn't compare to the girl in front of him in any regard. The dark eyes she bore held far more personality than many people he knew.

All to slowly her searched the back of her attire for some way to get her out of it. Alec didn't know how women's clothing worked in situations like this.
