Welcome to Jotunheim (pr. 'yote-nin-hime'), an ice cold frozen and barren land of snowy mountains, dead trees and frozen lakes. Jotunheim is the realm of the Hrimthursir or Frost Giants, whose only sustenance is human flesh, frozen ice, and whatever sea-life they manage to catch below the ice. The trickster god Loki lives in Jotunheim at his stronghold in Utgard, a giant icey capital with a large icey wall called Gastropnir going straight up for miles all around it. Mimir's Well is also located in Jotunheim, along with the Vimur River where Gjalp tried to drown Thor but failed. After the death of Balder, the gods punished Loki by chaining him to his throne. Skadi placed a giant poisonous snake above Loki's throne which dripped venom on to the unrepentant god's head, but Loki's faithful wife Sigyn holds a bowl above his head to collect the poison. Still, she sometimes has to lower the bowl to empty it, which causes Loki to get stung by the venom. Loki waits in agony for the day when his shackles will come undone and he will unleash his fury upon the gods. This is destined to happen during Ragnarok.
