Welcome to Vanaheim, home of the old Vanir gods and Disir goddesses from ancient times. Vanaheim is the realm of nature, fertility and magical foresight. Njord, Freyr, Ull, Odir, Skirnir and Kvasir are the Vanir gods, while Nerthus, Skadi, Freyja, Hnoss, Gersemi and Vana are the Disir or Vanir goddesses. Njord, plus his son Freyr and daughter Freyja went to live in Asgard after the Aesir-Vanir War, while the Aesir gods Mimir and Hoenir went to live in Vanaheim, but the Vanir felt cheated in the exchange so they killed Mimir and sent his severed head back to Asgard, where Odin gave it life. Some time later, both the Aesir gods and Vanir gods spit into a cauldron, and produced Kvasir, the wisest of all the gods who went to live in Vanaheim, thus keeping the peace between tribes. However, during a visit to Svartalfheim, the jealous Dwarves killed Kvasir and used his golden honey-blood to invent the Mead of Poetry, the magical elixir and beverage of the gods. Vanaheim is located in the ethereal realm above and to the west of Midgard, but below and to the east of Asgard according to Norse mythology. Vanagard or Vanaland is the capital of Vanaheim where golden mansions are illuminated by a glowing haze of light like the sun, while the entire realm is known for its sparkling rivers, teeming forests, glistening waterfalls and beautiful hanging gardens. Vanaheim is abundant with wildlife and Skogalfar or Wood Elves, not to mention many other woodland spirits and faefolk. Vanaheim is truly a magical world.
