"Some women flirt more with what they say, and some with what they do."

ImageGood traits:
Assertive / Determined / Humorous / Immaculate / Playful / Sexy / Tactful

Bad traits:
Dishonest / Flirtatious / Impulsive / Jealous / Stubborn / Sneaky / Vengeful

Nature:
Tsukiko is a bombshell of variety. She's hyper and quirky one minute, then she's flirty and sexy the next. Tsukiko has a million Imageother sides to her personality and enjoys breaking the rules. Her personality changes with her mood and surroundings, so she can be described as a very fickle young woman. At a party, Tsukiko is confident, dancing, drinking and very lively. At school she is friendly, casual, but definitely flirtatious. She's the one who always believes that the rules just never apply to her. She loves doing exactly what she's told she can't, even if it gets her in a bit of trouble. If you ever tell her that she can't or Image won't do something, she'll prove you wrong every time. At home or on her own time, her personality is much calmer, but once an attractive guy shows up, cue the sex appeal. Tsukiko acts this way because it is how her mother raised her to be. She was raised to flaunt her looks and to also express herself however she wished. She is a very smart girl, and doesn't hide it. She feels her intelligence makes her that much more appealing, and embraces all aspects of herself. She is very confident in her appearance and Image typically won't get embarrassed when wearing revealing clothes, or none at all. She is a reliable and responsible girl, unless she finds someone to flirt with, then she has been known to cop out of her obligations.

Quirks: ā— It's gotten her into trouble numerous times at school, but Tsukiko sees a dirty or sexual reference in practically everything.

ā— Tsukiko flirts with just about every member of the opposite gender, even Imageif she already is in a relationship.

ā— Always treats members of the same sex with contempt

ā— When she isn't socializing, she is constantly chewing Hubba Bubba Max Strawberry Watermelon chewing gum

Likes:

Going on dates
Being a social person, Tsukiko loves going on dates, whether she likes the guy she's going with or not. She often schedules dates just to keep herself Imagebusy, not enjoying her boring home life very much. She never has paid for a date, nor does she intend to. She is a very popular model and uses her status as a means of getting whatever she desires.

Flirting
It's fun to flirt, isn't it? Tsukiko especially loves flirting. She will flirt with just about any cute guy, regardless of his age or whether he has a girlfriend or if she has a boyfriend. She is a natural at flirting, sometimes not even realizing she's Imagedoing it. It's her favorite hobby, and she is quite skilled in the art.

Sex
She isn't afraid to admit it, she's had it before. She has only slept with one guy, but she is a very sexual person. She likes it, and she doesn't see anything wrong with a woman being comfortable with their sexuality in this time period. She firmly detests double standards and constantly challenges them. She is comfortable with her body, and isn't ashamed of showing it.

Image
Dislikes:

Girls

Girls pose a threat to her system. She cannot be spoiled by any guy she wants if he is faithful to someone else. She sees all girls as her enemy and only is seen speaking to social outcast females. All of her female friends have some sort of trait that defines them as unattractive to the common male eye. Any girl she deems attractive receives harsh treatment and she treats Imagethem with contempt.

Rules

Whether it is curfew, or the legal age of consent, Tsukiko doesn't like rules dictating what she can or cannot do. She doesn't care if a boy is fifteen, she will flirt with him, but she would also flirt with a thirty year old guy if he was hot. She doesn't like being told what to do, or what she 'should' do, it enrages her and she will almost definitely rebel.

Double Standards

As stated earlier, Tsukiko hates double standards. She believes in equality, but that doesn't mean she doesn't abuse the perks that some double standards create, like paying for dates. Whether it is nudity, promiscuity, walking alone at night, or even school rules, Tsukiko does not tolerate someone restricting her human rights because she was born female.

Strengths:

~ Flirting ~ Tsukiko has spent a lot of time doing it, especially to work her way up the ranks as a model, and now as a solo artist. She hasn't been turned down by a guy since her fame began, so she can be a bit cocky at times. She knows she is cute and she isn't shy about acting a bit flirty.

~ Modeling ~ She has been a model for a few years and needless to say, she loves it. She has a knack for posing the way a photographer wants and she's is somewhat conceited. She is definitely a narcissist, often checking herself out whenever she believes that no one else is paying attention to her, and sometimes aloud if she's feeling extraordinarily confident.

~ Singing ~
This is new territory for her, seeing as she's only made one album. This is her first, and she took a while to release it, doing her best to reach perfection. She was nervous that no one would buy the album because she'd never sung to a live audience until the past few months, but she's well on her way to becoming a world renown pop idol.

Weaknesses:

She is afraid of being rejected

It hasn't happened yet, but plenty of people have told her it's bound to happen sometime. This is her greatest fear, seeing as she prides herself in her appearance and sexy behavior. She is constantly doing her best to appeal to the opposite sex, doing everything in her power to avoid being turned down.

She doesn't have any female friends

Tsukiko has estranged herself from other girls. This rooted from the fact that she was often bullied or ostracized by her female classmates at other schools, mostly due to her growing fame as a model and the release of her first single.

She is afraid of drowning

No one knows this, but she is terrified of drowning. She doesn't know how to swim, so she avoids deep water at all costs, never going deep enough to where she cannot touch the ground.

"I'm not flirting, I'm just being extra nice to someone extra attractive. ;)"

Family:
From left to right; Seto Kogami (Father), Sakurei Kogami (Mother), Ryuu Yuuka (Maternal Grandfather)

HĪ¹sтĻƒŃŅÆ:
Tsukiko was born to a middle-class Korean family, yet her Father was friends with all of the right people. She spent most of her childhood participating in beauty pageants, and Imagefinally, with some patience and a ton of effort, she was signed to a modeling agency. She isn't certain when it happened, but she formed somewhat of an obsession about being seen as attractive during her time preforming in Korea. Tsukiko was determined to win hot guys over, regardless of what she had to do to achieve that goal.

Then it happened, a boy she was crushing on in junior high finally got a girlfriend. No one in her school knew, but one time Tsukiko saw the two of them together. It crushed her, breaking her heart into a million pieces, and she decided to lash out. She began flirting Imagewith numerous boys, hoping to make her crush jealous, but to no effect. Eventually, she realized she rather enjoyed flirting and continued because she liked it, but also because she strived for attention from the boy of her past.

For a time, she forgot her infatuation. Shortly before her crush switched schools, Tsukiko finally landed a serious boyfriend. She made it public, because he made her forget all of her insecurities. Everything was perfect until her boyfriend was forced to transfer schools because of her fans harassing his family. She began flirting and spending times with random guys to keep her mind off of it, but she still missed Makoto. Though a year ago a horrible accident happened while she was preforming in a new town. A drunk driver hit Makoto's bike, and he died on the operating table. She didn't even find out until the next day, but he had planned to attend her concert to meet her again.

To this day she holds herself responsible for the accident. He was her first and only sexual partner, and it's been almost three years since his death. She stayed loyal for an entire year, but she couldn't take keeping her life on standstill, because it was destroying her and her life was passing her by each day. She knew that she wasn't truly living, but simply existing.

Now she is a Junior in high school, but has no intention of trying to become anyone's girlfriend anymore. She doesn't see anything wrong with polygamous relationships, after all, it's just high school. Tsukiko is willing to do anything she can to get attention from boys. She has an ulterior motive; She loves going out. Casually dating a few guys would allow her to have more fun and do more social activities without going alone like going skating, out to dinner, or seeing a movie.

"Of course. I know myself quite well. While I adore who I am, I also hate that person at times too, but how is any of that your business? I am what I am and I accept that."

"Good! I spent it with... friends. How was yours?"

Chase smiled brightly pleased with the response. The evacuation was frightening for everyone involved but returning to classes, there was a normal atmosphere and nobody felt unsafe on the grounds in spite of everything. "Good as well. Airdalen handled the situation thoughtfully. I rather enjoyed the picnic." He praised the school for its quick thinking. In that amount of chaos, it was easy to focus on the financial damage and the stress of building repairs but Airdalen put their students first in providing them extras like lunch and picnic blankets. It put his mind at ease studying here so far away from home and far from the shallow lifestyle of Hollywood.

"Yeah, absolutely. It would be tough to work on the project together if you had to stand all day."

He smiled again and bowed his head in the traditional fashion before taking his seat. Mao's partner was Rhys, a boy with a tough demeanor but mannerly from their meeting. He was glad she had a good partner too. Mao looked back and made some gestures in the air. Chase was slow to the meaning but got embarrassed when he caught on, turning the book right side up and closing his eyes with tightly glued lips, trying to look busy and not draw attention. Ugh how dumb did I look? I want to die. He didn't get embarrassed often especially as a child growing up in front of the spotlight but he had his moments. Impressing the opposite gender was supposed to be a talent of his and holding a book upside down in class was ridiculous and not smooth at all.

Akira placed some notes for the assignment before him as he opened his eyes to it. "Well...this is about words and phrases that are useful for tourists so ideas should be in no short supply..." Chase nodded, his confidence slowly returning to him as he picked up the notes and glanced over them. He wasn't good in the academics department but it was a distraction from embarrassment. "We'll have to be careful to not make mistakes when it comes to writing the translations though." He nodded again as his bangs fell over his face covering one of his eyes but the nods were more like signals he was listening.. not signals that he had any clue what to do. It was looking hopeless as not a single idea came to mind, none. His tourist ideas were in short supply after all. Instead of saying anything, he just smiled at Akira reassuringly and then a loud noise distracted them both.

A student in the classroom (Rocco) had pulled a prank on another junior (Kaito) taking a nap. Chase wasn't familiar with either of them or the details surrounding the incident, so he stayed in his place and looked to the class president (Akira) next to him for the next course of action. There was a resemblance between the two white-haired boys but that was a thought in the back of his mind as he valued peace above all. Maybe it was just a harmless prank or maybe it was a harmful one but it wasn't his call to make at this point in time. He watched Akira smack his palm against his head, perhaps mentally debating what to do next but stayed silent to give his partner room to think. It was Akira's responsibility and he was honoring that by not intervening, trusting the situation in his hands.

"Boys are so immature..."

Akira quietly sighed. It was a strangely formulated sentence and the confusion surfaced on his face as the form of one eyebrow lifting questioningly but then he was reminded that they were both foreigners. Akira did imply that they both were when discussing the assignment. "Would you say we are?" Chase asked. He didn't want to criticize Japanese that might have been flawed and opted for a subtle approach. Akira then gestured over one of the boys from the incident (Kaito) and Chase let the other boy handle it. "You'll hurt your hand, Miyuu-kun." Closer up, they really did look alike but the surnames were not the same. Miyuu? Not Blake. He waited for the other white-haired junior to leave and gathered his own belongings as well since class was dismissed. "That was commendable, kaichou." Akira showed thoughtfulness when he noticed the boy's (Kaito) knuckles and also gave advice. Unfortunately, not much progress was made on their project either. Chase took out his phone and smiled warm and friendly. He was optimistic about it and didn't look a tad discouraged. "Time flies. May I have your contact details please Blake-san?" he asked, handing over his phone. He didn't specify which contact details, leaving it entirely up to the class president. "Let's work more on it another time. I need you." His ocean blue eyes almost held the look of a pleading puppy unintentionally. He only wanted to assert that he valued Akira's contribution before leaving the classroom. Mao was already gone.

Chase was walking at a normal pace and spotted pink hair from afar. It stuck out easily among the majority of black hair with its brightness and liveliness. In fact, there was one girl he knew of with dyed pink hair. It made him smile to reminisce about as one of his fonder and fun memories of being famous. Chase didn't think too hard about the pink hair he saw because the girl he knew was a Korean idol. It was very unlikely that there would be a reunion here but he did continue to look the girl's way and observed her mannerisms. The style of car and manager were all too familiar that even though all he had was a view of the girl's back, he started to run forward before it was too late. He could feel his heart thudding against his chest and the excitement building up, exploding as he dropped his bag to the ground and turned her around quickly but gently to confirm it was the same girl. "Tsukiko!" he exclaimed with the happiness of a child on Christmas. Well, it was going to be Christmas soon! He lifted her off the ground, hugged and spun around a bit excitedly. He didn't understand how she came to be a student here but happiness first, questions after.

Rocco was a new Airdalen student but comfortable with how he was settling in. It beat his old school for sure and he was getting a reputation of his own fast. The rumors about getting served detention after a scene with the senior president (Sora), association with Ursula and prime suspect of the fire didn't annoy or change him at all. He had met many pretty girls and for someone with such normal looks, he was living the dream. "Should I put your name on our papers as well since your partner is useless?" Rocco laughed because Kei didn't hesitate to point out the obvious about Kaito and in front of Tsukiko. It would only take a quick glance at the board to read who his partner was and Tsukiko would know him too from Tag Rugby. Heh they didn't get along over a hug from what I remember. I guess it's not a problem. Rocco shrugged. "Be my guest. I'll take responsibility over that one." he winked at the team because of the sexual implication of hotel. He didn't actually believe he'd get in trouble for it. Worse comes to worse, he'd play dumb.

He caught Kaori poking her tongue out at him while he was biding his time and his mobile vibrated on his desk soon after but he didn't pick it up right away. Tsukiko was looking at him too with interest and she was right next to him. ā€œHm, good point. It is half of what people spend their time doing during travel for leisure anyway.ā€ Rocco angled his body slightly towards her and smirked. "Right?" ā€œMmm... Hotel? Impressive. A little fancier for a one night stand than most boys our age. Most try to score with a motel... or so Iā€™ve heard.ā€ He realized from that sentence alone that Tsukiko wasn't innocent like most girls he had met at Airdalen. She was a different breed. Her cheeky smile was hinting at much more and he wasn't afraid to play with fire. "Amateurs." His words and flirting was cut short as the bell rang too soon. Always getting away that one. First tag rugby and now this? It was a tease as Tsukiko packed up her stuff and proceeded to talk to Kei to wrap up their assignment arrangements but there was another girl he owed attention anyway.

Rocco left the group to their business but stayed seated as he wasn't in a hurry. He looked around instinctively for his fake girlfriend who had the opposite attitude, rushing out of the classroom like her life depended on it. Rocco smirked knowingly but didn't pursue. There was still a text to read. It's called Karma, and it's pronounced Ha-Ha-Ha~~~ā™„ā™„ā™„ ;P He tapped the phone against his forehead in thought before resting it back on his desk and pocketing his hands. He couldn't argue with karma but the hearts and flirty tongue out got him thinking he wasn't as hated by Kaori as he thought. "Well, better than her inviting herself to my house I suppose." Kei mumbled and Rocco looked over briefly to see what he was talking about. He saw digits and the @ symbol and understood what the paper had on it in a millisecond. Kaito and Kei had an adverse response to Tsukiko in common and Rocco definitely didn't understand that though. "You don't like her?" he asked after he was sure Tsukiko wasn't in earshot, standing up to get ready to leave himself. "You doing anything?" Rocco pocketed his mobile and picked up his school bag. "Nothing important." He smirked, referring secretly to the beatdown with Kaito. "I'll explain what happened earlier if you're not busy." "Sure. I want to check out the gym anyway." Rocco easily agreed to lend an ear. He didn't have any plans to make friends when he got to this school but Kei had been a godsend when he nearly passed out. He was also a chill guy to hang out with and didn't throw a hissy fit over the girls he was flirting with. So far, he had no reason to stop being buddies.

Rocco picked the gym because beatdowns were common to happen in the general area of it for schools but he didn't stay outside for long. Nothing was really happening out there. "Let's go in. There's no club meet on today anyway." He suggested to Kei and swung open the door. He didn't expect to find someone inside. It was a hot girl with ebony skin, the uniform's button down top wrapped around her waist with a more exposed top in its place and she was running down the side of the court in repetition (Mao). Rocco whistled at the surprise. "I thought we were going to be alone but I don't mind the view." He joked quietly, nudging Kei before calling out to her. "Hey, are you in Basketball Conquerors too?" Rocco didn't want to yell the whole time so he walked forward to meet up with her halfway down the court. He waited for her to take a break or stop for a second to chat. "I'm Murray Rocco. My friend and I are just gonna have a chat in the back but I'd be up for a game after you're done warming up." He smiled and not a trace of mischief was written on his face. He didn't know if she had heard the rumors about him yet but he was trying his luck.

Rocco went back to Kei, not forgetting that they needed to talk. He sat down at the very back bleachers so he'd get his view and they'd have the privacy for Kei's explanation. Rocco gave a thumbs up gesture to Mao for support from afar then his mobile vibrated again. "One second." He leaned back against the wall casually and opened up the text. Have you ever been to the Aquarium? If you haven't, would you like to go with me~~? ā™„ā™„ā™„ Rocco found Kaori's enthusiasm fishy but that wasn't going to stop him from replying. Maybe she was in another troublesome situation and had to convince another person she had a boyfriend? Whatever. This is too good to pass up. He texted back, 'I haven't gone to one in Japan yet and I wouldn't just like to, I'd love to go with you babe~ ā™„ā™„ā™„' Finished, he pocketed his phone again and set vibrate off so Kei knew he wasn't going to get too distracted again. "Alright. What's up?"

When she first felt her shoulder claimed by an unknown source before she could make it close enough to Miyukiā€™s car to escape, Tsukikoā€™s panic was beyond belief. She ended up dropping her own bag in her moment of fear. She wasnā€™t sure who would have ran toward her and grabbed her, but her fear turned to relief at the sight of a familiar pair of bright blue eyes. Her expression of terror morphed into one of pure joy, something that very rarely crossed her features genuinely.

It was confirmed that the person standing before her was truly him when he spoke her name without even bothering to use honorifics. Before she could move in to embrace him, he beat her to it. While she was tall for a girl her age, he had always been a bit taller. Due to her height Tsukiko had not been lifted off of her feet often, an embarrassing squeal of surprise escaping her before she could nullify it. Her composure as a confident and dominant person completely cracked as he spun her around, ā€Chase!ā€ She scolded him, but couldnā€™t stop herself from giggling, unable to keep a sternness to her tone.

He had made her a little dizzy, so even after she was on her own two feet she held onto his arms, ā€You scared me! I didnā€™t know you were a student here. Wait, does that mean weā€™re classmates?ā€ She couldnā€™t quite stick to one trail of thought but ended her openly voiced thoughts as she asked as the pieces began to fall together. How did she not notice that? She was excited to finally see him again. While they only were able to hang out briefly amongst their respective travels, they had spent a lot of time together when they could. Chase, despite his extreme good looks was one of the only guys she had never hit on. Though now that she was looking him over... he had gotten taller.

Her right hand measured their height difference. He nearly had half a foot on her now, her gold eyes widening a bit in surprise, ā€Youā€™ve gotten taller since I last saw you.ā€ She suddenly felt small as she had to tilt her head up to look at him now. It forced her to accept that he wasnā€™t exactly the middle school boy she remembered.

Too caught up in reminiscing, Miyuki interjected their reunion by clearing his throat loudly, ā€Must I remind the both of you that just because paparazzi hasnā€™t located you yet, does not mean itā€™s safe to embrace each other out in the open like this. Please get into the car if you wish to continue this... whatever it is you are.ā€ He sighed in displeasure. Miyuki was never able to control Tsukiko, and she had snuck out to see Chase several times in the past. For a long time Miyuki was under the impression that they were romantically involved but he soon figured out they were close friends. Not that he understood how they had become so close in such brief and scattered encounters.

ā€Want to go on a date with me?ā€ Tsukiko chimed playfully, but it wasnā€™t the seductive playfulness she used when attempting to trap a guy in her web, she had dropped her faƧade and was genuinely excited. Though her offer of a ā€˜dateā€™ wasnā€™t in the literal romantic sense, she didnā€™t clarify either, ā€Thereā€™s this beach party tonight I was invited to and I hadnā€™t chose my plus one yet~ We can go shopping for our swimsuits!ā€ she let out the hook, knowing that he was as big of a fan of a good time as she was and adored shopping. There were perks to knowing oneā€™s target and she was confident that she knew him well enough to reel him in. She wasnā€™t sure how much their friendship would change now that they attended the same school, but for now, she was just happy to see him and wanted to enjoy his company.

Tsukiko slid into the back seat of the car, leaving enough room for him to join her if he felt so inclined, ā€Or did you get boring while I was away?ā€ She threw out a small teasing challenge, quirking her brow. She didnā€™t actually mean it, simply trying to provoke a reaction out of him. While she wouldnā€™t admit it, part of the reason that she wanted him to go because she was actually very wary of beach or pool parties. She couldnā€™t swim, a fact she had managed to hide from public knowledge. Plus there would be bikinis and underage drinking. If someone saw her alone and decided to throw her in the water it could end badly. Besides, Chase had grown into a very attractive guy. She was thrilled to have him as a friend, but she didnā€™t mind having him as arm candy for the night either. In the end the choice was his and she would respect it, even if she was subtly dying to spend some time woth him to catch up. This was exactly the boost she didnā€™t know she needed, but now that he was in her sights, she wanted to monopolize him at least for the night. It wasnā€™t often that she offered to pay for one of her ā€˜datesā€™, in fact, now that she thought about it she never had. That was information she planned to keep to herself. It didnā€™t mean anything, they were simply two friends who had grown up in a lot of ways. What had it been... a year? Two? It was far time that they caught up and to her, a beach party felt like the perfect setting considering she met him on the beach in the first place. It just felt too perfectly timed. In all honesty it was just a party she was invited to in order to bolster her almost nonexistent Japanese popularity, she needed to be seen mingling amongst Japanese celebrities.

ā€Chase!ā€

He cracked a smile and laughed as the girl he was spinning around in his arms began giggling. Her joy was contagious and tripled his own. He was far from home but a bit of home came to him with someone dear so near, in arms reach quite literally. Chase realized he was getting carried away like a rowdy child and lowered the pop idol gently but his excitement didn't die down. He was full of energy as his form in one way or another couldn't hold perfectly still. He looked at her with fondness and smiled the way he always did with a sun's warmth but there was a twinkle in his eye. Tsukiko held his arms and he kept his hands at her waist as she steadied herself. Reunited, he wasn't letting her go that easily. His clingy nature wouldn't allow it.

ā€You scared me! I didnā€™t know you were a student here. Wait, does that mean weā€™re classmates?ā€

Chase' excitement carried on in his lively voice. ā€Freshman? Then it does. I can't believe you're really here.ā€ He looked her over, checking that she wasn't a figment of his imagination. As he was looking her over, she happened to be looking him over as well. Change is a constant so the two of them had definitely changed while apart but he did keep up with the news surrounding the pop idol and her exploits. He wasn't a fan of the tabloids but the photos were worth a look at and to see that she was doing well. Her hand raised to measure their height difference and that was the only time Chase managed to stop himself from moving too much, to make it easier for her.
ā€Youā€™ve gotten taller since I last saw you.ā€

He chuckled. It was hard to forget the importance of height in the modelling industry. A perfectly lovely model could be denied because he or she wasn't the desired height. A tall male was generally speaking considered more attractive than a short one. His genes was blessed in the height department on both mother and father side. ā€Youā€™ve grown more beautiful than I remember.ā€ He paid a compliment with a compliment and gave an honest assessment because the photos didn't do her justice. Photoshop and airbrushing did not emulate charm.

ā€Must I remind the both of you that just because paparazzi hasnā€™t located you yet, does not mean itā€™s safe to embrace each other out in the open like this. Please get into the car if you wish to continue this... whatever it is you are.ā€

Chase had almost completely forgotten Tsukiko's manager was present. He had been acting in the moment and not thinking carefully over his actions as Miyuki stated. ā€Gomenasai.ā€ He acknowledged he was in the wrong and bowed his head as the Japanese custom he was making a habit of. ā€I would not want to cause you or Tsukiko any trouble. Thank you for overseeing her.ā€ He wasn't sure if the manager had something against him all this time but he appreciated that he had Tsukiko's best interest at heart always. It was hard to find a good manager in a tough industry and he trusted that Miyuki must be one to have stayed by Tsukiko so loyally.

ā€Want to go on a date with me?ā€

A guy being asked out on a date by a beautiful girl could cause any man's heart to race or flutter but Chase heard out the invitation as if it were normal. She had never put the moves on him so it was determined early on that they were only good friends. He was aware of her flirtatious behavior but it had never come to that between them. Even as she used the word date and asked him out so sweetly, he still had their pre-established friendship in mind. It didn't occur to him that their relationship might eventually change as did their looks.

ā€Thereā€™s this beach party tonight I was invited to and I hadnā€™t chose my plus one yet~ We can go shopping for our swimsuits!ā€

He closed his eyes as if mentally deliberating over it but his mind had already been made up. It was such a coincidence that she was attending the same classes as he and that there was a beach party for them in store. There was no better way to reunite and she had him at shopping. It was a hobby for the ladies but Chase wasn't going to shy away from admitting that he cares for his appearance. Shopping was also more fun with company for a second or third opinion. If she hadn't offered to spend time together, he would have definitely. All the coincidences were better described as an orchestrated fate and he wasn't going to deny it. He opened his eyes, gaze following where she moved.

ā€Or did you get boring while I was away?ā€

Tsukiko teased as she got in the back seat of her car, leaving the door open inviting him in. ā€How can I refuse?ā€ he smirked, not offended by her challenge and understanding its playfulness. Before he could join her, there was something else to take care of. He picked up their bags off the ground that they had both dropped after the sudden hug and put it away in the back. Closing the trunk, he signalled Miyuki with a thumbs up that everything was fine then returned to the awaiting backseat. Chase climbed halfway in so his knee was pressed into the unoccupied seat and his body was fully facing her as he said, ā€I promise as your honored plus one, we'll have the time of our lives tonight.ā€ Then he sat appropriately, closed the door and settled in his seat. Another matter he had to take care of, he swiftly pulled out his phone to call his bodyguard. He should let her know that he has plans as to not worry her. ā€Oh Anzu, gomen ne. I am spending time with a good friend so I will not require travel arrangements today. Please take care of the house in my absence. Arigatou. I will see you tomorrow.ā€ He flicked his wrist as he ended the call. As he said he would see his bodyguard tomorrow, it meant he did not plan to head home tonight. Chase put away his phone then gave Tsukiko beside him his full attention. ā€Everything has been taken care of on my end.ā€ he smiled sincerely with ocean eyes one could get lost in. ā€Tell me, what have I missed?ā€ he asked as their shoulders touched, leaning over to hear her clearer with his height.

While it was a little presumptuous, Tsukiko didnā€™t suspect Chase would say no. She had to stress to herself that he could possibly have other plans. It wasn't something she was used to where the tall blond male was concerned, but it seemed that many things had changed and besides, running into each other this time was completely by accident, like a strange twist of fate. Miyuki often preached to Tsukiko to never assume anything, but she was hoping that Chase would accept her offer nonetheless. While she could rely on Miyuki to keep her safe at the party if she REALLY needed someone, she did not wish to do so if it was avoidable. While he wasnā€™t entirely a buzzkill, he always ended up acting like one whenever her wellbeing was concerned.

ā€How can I refuse?ā€

Eh? The way he smirked at her offer and accepted the invite made her blush, one of the few times she had ever in Chaseā€™s presence. Tsukiko felt the familiar warmth rush through her, unaware that her cheeks were flushed. Her lips curled up, a huge smile capturing her features. It wasn't the kind of smile she practiced for photos, the Duchenne marker noticeable, something that was not present in her photos as Mae Seung Jin. It was impossible to stop it though. She wasn't conservative like her parents or the rest of the Kitogawa family, far from it. While Koreanā€™s and the Japanese were not typically open to expressing emotion in excess, her time in other countries had molded her into a bold young woman and a liberal. As Chase seemed to pause before fully sliding into the car, Tsukiko tilted her head as she looked up at him, baffled by his half-in and half-out position.

ā€I promise as your honored plus one, we'll have the time of our lives tonight.ā€

For a moment Tsukiko was shaken by his sincerity, her already flushed cheeks further darkening, but shook it off. It had simply been too long. Nearly two years... a lot had changed and she couldn't help seeing him a bit differently. He had grown in a lot of ways, and while he was still recognizable as the boy she spent every moment she could with when they wound up in the same cities, it was impossible to ignore how he had grown up. As he called someone, Tsukiko brushed a hand through her hair. Leaving it down meant she had to fuss with it more to keep it presentable.

ā€Oh Anzu, gomen ne. I am spending time with a good friend so I will not require travel arrangements today. Please take care of the house in my absence. Arigatou. I will see you tomorrow.ā€

ImageAvoiding listening in was unavoidable as they were next to each other. He doesn't plan to go home? Does that mean he wanted to stay the night with me at Miyukiā€™s place or... does he have plans with someone else later? It was difficult to contain her jealousy that was daring to flare up at the thought, even though they had never been romantic with one another, she didn't like to share. As childish and illogical as it was, Tsukiko was like a stubborn child refusing to share her toys. If he wanted to stay, she'd definitely open her home to him. While they had stayed with one another when they were younger the prospect of doing so now made her a bit nervous as memories of her most recent tryst with one Miyamoto, Kazuki. While she knew nothing would happen between herself and her dear friend, it was impossible to see him as just the young boy she remembered. Even as she felt herself grow a bit nervous, Tsukiko refused to turn him away. He was her only cherished friend, however, so Tsukiko shoved her thoughts into a little box and refused to acknowledge them any further. Humoring it would only breathe life into what she was feeling and she was certain it was not something she should explore. They were friends. He was the only one she had, she was just confused, it would fade after she adjusted to all of the changes. ...It has to...

ā€Everything has been taken care of on my end.ā€

It took Tsukiko a moment to adjust as she settled her gaze back on her best friend. His eyes had always been her favorite feature of the Hawaiian. Blue. It was not a color she often saw in Korea, at least where eyes were concerned. Brown, like her own, was the norm, ā€œLovely, Iā€™ve always enjoyed having you all to myself.ā€ Tsukiko laughed, only half joking. The pinkette was a very possessive person, whenever she had company of the male variety she truly wanted their undivided attention as much as possible.

ā€Tell me, what have I missed?ā€

Upon feeling their shoulders come into contact, Tsukikoā€™s eyes widened just a bit. She wasnā€™t too surprised though as Chase often stayed close during a conversation, ā€œWell... I began a music career, I am working on my second album, the first outside of Korea and this time in Japanese as I moved to Japan. I made Miyuki-sama agree to let me stay a year so my studies are not affected.ā€ Tsukiko explained before blinking a few times rapidly, realizing that sheā€™d rambled on quite a bit. Her hand then fell to his knee, giving it a soft squeeze despite the racing of her heart. It wasnā€™t the first time sheā€™d done this, they were so close in their younger years and neither of them were afraid of affection, ā€œGomen ne~ I didnā€™t mean to make it all about me. How have you been, Aein? [Korean for: Sweetheart, couple, lover]ā€ Tsukiko asked, turning the conversation to him. This was something she often did after the loss of Mikoto, talking about herself was not something Tsukiko particularly enjoyed, but she humored Chase a bit more than others. He knew her story about her dead ex-boyfriend. One time a younger, inadvisably drunk Tsukiko had confessed everything she was denying sober, every detail she denied.

Due to their conversation, Tsukiko didnā€™t even note that they were in motion, and meanwhile, Miyuki drowning the teens out as best he could despite his protective nature where Tsukiko was involved. While he wasnā€™t especially fond of ANY male that came close to the K-pop idol in his charge. He was expected to take care of her in this country that was so foreign to her. She hadnā€™t been to Japan in many years, but it was Miyukiā€™s home. Heā€™d lived there a majority of his life. As her, manager it was natural to want to protect her but he also watched her grow. He found her when she was quite young, molded her into the young lady she had become, he couldnā€™t help seeing her as his own daughter. He couldnā€™t toss aside his instinct to protect her.

As they made it to a shopping center, Miyuki sighed, handing each of them a beanie cap and sunglasses, ā€œIn and out, understood? Donā€™t dawdle. As both of you are aware pictures are quite damning. Please exercise caution for both of your reputations, but Mae Seung Jin, unfortunately, has much more to lose as a woman.ā€ The dark haired man sighed, obviously frustrated by the double standards and high expectations of idols in Asian culture. It wasnā€™t fair but it was a cruel reality nonetheless.

ā€œLovely, Iā€™ve always enjoyed having you all to myself.ā€

Chase smiled keenly aware of Tsukiko's proclivity for the boys in her life to keep their eyes on her. He did not judge her for it or ever question it. He makes a conscious effort to please people always and especially those he values and holds close to his heart. The redhead also has a clingy tendency of his own that he does not find fault with. It is only natural in his viewpoint to want to secure your spot in the life of a person you cherish. People can drift apart if there is not enough effort to keep the relationship running. Staying connected is a choice, a choice Chase will always say yes to.

ā€œWell... I began a music career, I am working on my second album, the first outside of Korea and this time in Japanese as I moved to Japan. I made Miyuki-sama agree to let me stay a year so my studies are not affected.ā€

He nodded along listening carefully and patiently. Tsukiko was seated by his side with the deaf ear that relied on a hearing aid and while it was advanced to the point he sometimes forgot he was using one, he did not want to miss the details or make her repeat herself. "That is a huge leap but I'm not surprised. You've always had a beautiful voice and it's time you share it with the world.ā€ There was some singing in their past escapades and he had been following her on social media and checking the news. Chase knew that she had begun a music career but the other half about moving to Japan was new news. He had no clue they might run into each other the way they had but it made for a pleasant surprising reunion.

ā€œGomen ne~ I didnā€™t mean to make it all about me. How have you been, Aein?

Tsukiko's hand softly squeezing his knee and calling him affectionately in Korean while not unusual, stirred something in Chase this time around. He blinked twice in succession as his reasoning tried to put the pieces together about the change. He wasn't the brightest but when it comes to people, he is very observant as to adapt to their wants and needs, maintaining a level of comfort, closeness and peace. Concerning his pink-haired friend, she had an undeniably flirtatious nature and he had always known that about her but why was this time any different? He had to ask that of himself. Aein... Chase did not pull away or show any sign of discomfort with respect to her and their past, confident she had done nothing wrong. He couldn't put his finger on that something stirring within him but he wasn't going to neglect her for what he can't make sense of internally. He cast the strange feeling aside and didn't dawdle to return the affection in full.
Chase's hand moved over hers that rested on his knee with a light squeeze also. "It can be all about you, whenever you want, Kuā€˜uipo. [(Hawaiian) Sweetheart]" He reassured, with blue eyes that stared at her deeply. To assert that statement he answered her question to be polite but kept it minimal. "I have been me and not much else." It was true that his life hadn't been much different from back then. His family was still subjected to gossip and the tabloids and he was still the Hollywood poster child. The only significant change was that he was here in Japan to study to get away from it all, practising a freedom he'd always desired. Chase would then return the main focus onto her with his phone, pressing the screen to direct him to his song list. After finding what he was in search of, he raised the volume and played one of Tsukiko's songs. It was actually one of the tunes that came up when he was on the picnic with Mao. "I must confess this is my favorite song. I'm quite a fan. Do you think I'll be fortunate enough to see such a talented singer perform?" He teased elatedly, holding the phone under his chin so the screen was facing her with clear song title and idol name Mae Seung Jin.

Once the car arrived at its destination, he accepted the sunglasses and beanie cap Miyuki had graciously offered. Chase had never donned a beanie style before but he said nothing of it, wearing it as asked of him. It was a small price to pay for quality time with Tsukiko after the years but he hoped it did not make him appear ridiculous. He couldn't tell without a mirror.

ā€œIn and out, understood? Donā€™t dawdle. As both of you are aware pictures are quite damning. Please exercise caution for both of your reputations, but Mae Seung Jin, unfortunately, has much more to lose as a woman.ā€

Imageā€œYou have my word." Chase declared with conviction before stepping out of the car. He did not take kindly to gossip and there was no way he would allow any harm to come to Tsukiko on his account. The redhead understood very well the anxiety Miyuki expressed and even if he had faulted slightly at their reunion from mere shock, his head and heart was in the right place about the pink-haired girl's security, reputation and future. He offered his hand to assist Tsukiko out of the car as a gentleman would. ā€œWhere to Kuā€˜uipo?" He asked her, still holding onto her hand and lifting his sunglasses quickly to wink at her playfully in their temporary disguises.

It was a relief to the pink-haired pop idol that her manager seemed to be focusing on the road, their surroundings, on virtually anything aside from the two teens in the back seat. It didn't take a scientist to understand that his every instinct as a manager told him to do otherwise. It was literally his job to shove his nose where Tsukiko felt it did not belong. That initiative kept her reputation and her career safe, though it often got in the way of Tsukiko having fun. Grateful to Miyuki for giving them as much privacy as could be afforded to them, Tsukiko remained conscious that there wasn't a lot of space and therefore it would not be very difficult for her manager to overhear their conversation despite his efforts to tune them out. He likely did not even have to strain himself to do so. That alone kept Tsukiko keenly aware of her word choice. She had to behave in his presence, at least a little.

Ever since he officially became her manager Miyuki seemed to always have her best interest at heart, but sometimes he was too good at his job. It was downright smothering. Escaping Miyuki's overwhelming protection led to Tsukiko meeting Chase in the first place, but she'd reminisce on that later. With the real deal still in her sights, Tsukiko wouldn't allow herself to slip away into thoughts of the past so easily.

"That is a huge leap but I'm not surprised. You've always had a beautiful voice and it's time you share it with the world.ā€

The weight of his words caused a twinge in her chest but Tsukiko hid it as best she could, a smile forming on her lips slowly. She'd written a lot of songs after losing Mikoto, about him, her dreams, anything she was feeling really. It was easier to write it down than to talk to someone. While Tsukiko enjoyed the attention she received as a model, overall, she was content with the fame that brought. The Korean girl's attempt at a singing career was all because of Mikoto. His insistence while he was alive... she wanted to honor his hopes for her in that sense at the very least.

Back when Mikoto and Tsukiko were still dating she would sing along to songs. He had a thing for old-school boomboxes so when they spent time together he would always be playing some kind of music. Often it led to them singing along together. A few times Mikoto would gradually turn down the music so he could hear her voice better. It was a purer time in her life so it embarrassed her quite a bit no matter how many times he complimented her singing.

Now it was Chase praising her voice, "Thank you." Tsukiko responded softly. As he was a very important guy in her life, one of the few lasting connections in her life since the tragic death of her first love, it was equal parts heartbreaking and encouraging. It wasn't until she felt his hand clasp around her own that her gaze returned to meet his. The warmth was reassuring, but her eyes were slightly glossed over. Somehow she managed to reel her emotions back in, not allowing the tears to even make it to her lashes. Instead her smile brightened, "So I've been told." she chimed cheerfully. She'd cried during the evacuation, the mask she wore was not going to break again so soon if she could help it.

"It can be all about you, whenever you want, Kuā€˜uipo. [(Hawaiian) Sweetheart]"

Although it was heartwarming that they could pick up where things left off so easily despite the time that had passed when he returned her term of endearment with one of his own Tsukiko's voice caught in her throat. Say something, you do this all of the time. It's just Chase. We've playfully flirted a lot, it doesn't mean anything! You're just friends, remember? still, it was hard to have strictly platonic thoughts. To match his thoughtfulness he had grown to be a desirable young man and those blue eyes that had always been easy to get lost in were difficult to gaze into for more than a few seconds. Shaking her head and quietly laughing, Tsukiko voiced her surrender, "Smooth sidestep." it was suave, but he was her friend so she had to maintain an impartial stance to such things, she couldn't allow herself to be overtaken by the current.

"I have been me and not much else."

Quirking a brow at his vague answer Tsukiko battled with herself. Should she press on for more details or not? Out of habit it was tempting, in the past their time together was brief and scattered. There was plenty of time to catch up, but she had to remind herself that she could always return to it later. Now that they were classmates there was no reason to feel a sense of urgency. For once they didn't have to rush. She hoped that if there was anything he wanted to discuss he would bring it up willingly, she did not wish to pressure or coerce him so she abandoned the subject for the time being. At first she was confused that he was toying with his phone but as her song played from his phone Tsukiko's gold eyes widened, finally meeting his for longer than a moment.

"I must confess this is my favorite song. I'm quite a fan. Do you think I'll be fortunate enough to see such a talented singer perform?"

With her composure shattered, she was vulnerable to his words, heat rising to her cheeks indiscriminately. It reminded her of Mikoto always trying to steal chances to listen to her singing, but more than that, she was unnerved by how intense her embarrassment was. It had been quite some time since anyone had embarrassed her to such a degree. The praise, the sly way he went about presenting that it was his favorite song, she wasn't prepared. Is he just teasing me...? it was hard for her to imagine that her song was truly his favorite. The Korean idol was speechless, turning her head until her gaze met the floor of the car as she put together what he was implying. He wanted to see her perform live? It would be simple to get him in for a show. Considering he was also a high profile person she assumed the company she was signed with would have no complaints. It would be bad for business to deny his appearance after all. Once she felt that she wouldn't crumble upon eye contact her eyes locked on him, "If you want to see the artist, I could probably arrange it." Tsukiko decided to play coy to reduce the impact of her actual shy response a moment before. While she was nervous about the fact her friend would be in the audience, she was flattered that he had her song on his phone. She felt fluttering in her chest, but ignored it, refusing to acknowledge it for what it was. Letting it take root would only sprout trouble. It was just another thing she would have to put in the box and lock away. Eventually, it would burn out if she didn't stoke the flame.

Finally they arrived at the mall to Tsukiko's relief. Really? Disguises? Does he really think this will work!? Tsukiko tuned out Miyuki's paranoia, focused on getting away from him for a few minutes and stretching her legs. Putting the beanie over her hair, Tsukiko's features shifted into a pout. This would give her hat hair! The sunglasses were next, hiding the emotions in her eyes, at least that she was grateful for.

ā€œYou have my word."

Lips parting to protest that she could get out on her own, Tsukiko reminded herself that it was not how she normally behaved, with any man for that matter. She couldn't retreat simply because a few pesky teenage hormones were threatening their friendship. She blamed the time apart but reassured herself that once they grew accustomed to seeing one another daily the inconvenient feelings would slowly fade. A guy like Chase... a good guy... she couldn't pursue someone like that with reckless abandon like anyone else. It hit too close to home. It was a stinging reminder that she should move on and clinging to her denial was not nearly as painful as admitting Mikoto was dead. I can't make a big deal out of this. she scolded herself before accepting his hand with an appreciative smile.

ā€œWhere to Kuā€˜uipo?"

The wink earned a giggle despite herself and Tsukiko led them on inside "Well we need something to wear, don't we? I assume the host nor PR would appreciate us streaking." Tsukiko responded with her usual playfulness, doing her best to recover. That also meant not shying away from holding his hand even inside amongst the crowd of the mall. As she found a suitable store that sold swimwear she finally released his hand to scan the racks. Little did he know, this was her first time that she was spending money of her own without Miyuki. Tsukiko knew that you had to pay for things with cash or a credit card, but she did not know how those swiping machines worked, Miyuki always handled checking out for her. The reality of the situation was that Tsukiko had been a popular Korean model from childhood. She met Miyuki before she even started middle school. Once she had three or four items she went to the changing room to try them on. She settled on her favorite all her own, preferring to surprise him. Once she was back in her school uniform Tsukiko went out to look for Chase to see if he'd found something he liked, biting her bottom lip. How would she tell him that she didn't know how to use the credit card reader?

The party was lively despite the days gradually growing colder, there were enough bonfires to keep everyone warm, and if not, the expensive booze certainly fooled everyone into thinking they were. No stranger to alcohol despite being underage she wasted no time in downing a few jello shots while saying hello to a few familiar faces. Despite moving straight into networking upon her arrival, Tsukiko kept her arm firmly hooked around the arm of her companion, Chase. It was true that the pink-haired idol was a lot of things, but one thing that she was not was shallow enough to forget her dear friend in the crowd.

Anyone else would likely have been a passing thought as soon as her peers from the music industry caught her eye. In her line of work, it was extremely important to network, even at functions such as the beach party. It came naturally to Tsukiko to work a room, but Chase was a valued friend, and he was high profile in his own right. Knowing that, Chase was still one of the few people in this world that she had no interest in using as a pawn to get a leg up in regards to her career. The thought may have crossed her mind when they first met, as she was a very fresh face to the celebrity scene, but as she got to know him all thoughts of using him to her advantage had vanished. He truly helped her through a really dark time, whether he was aware of just how much he changed her bleak worldview or not. She knew she was good at faking a smile, she'd spent a long time perfecting that art after all, but he also had an uncanny ability to see through such things. Not only that, he proved in the car that he could say extremely touching things effortlessly. Tsukiko wasn't sure where exactly they broke even in ability, but it kept her on her toes.

Just as she thought the two of them could tear away from her fellow pop idols for a peaceful moment to themselves, a Japanese pop idol grabbed her arm, a senior in the business, therefore her... senpai? I think that is correct... The older girl invited them to join a game that all of the older idols were playing. Tsukiko wasnā€™t interested but knew it was incredibly rude to decline an invitation from one's senior. The media always caught wind of such things, so with a sigh, Tsukiko smiled weakly to Chase, ā€œUp to a game?ā€ She slowly joined the circle, still loosely holding his hand as the Japanese idols made room for them. Had Tsukiko known what the game would be, she might have been less inclined to keep Chase by her side.

ā€œThe game is Suck and Blow, so I hardly believe I have to explain the rules,ā€ the Japanese girl that invited them announced in English, then continued in Japanese, ā€œBe careful not to drop the playing card as you pass it.ā€ She winked to the group, demonstrating how it is done with a girl beside of her. Tsukikoā€™s eyes widened a bit, realizing that if she or Chase dropped the card it was very likely they would kiss. Accident or not, that thought brought her quite a bit of anxiety. Theyā€™d never kissed before. On the cheek? Plenty of times, Tsukiko and Chase were both highly affectionate people, especially when partying. Still, regardless of how wild their adventures got, they never crossed the boundary, not once! Their relationship had always been innocent.

Was this karma finally catching up with her? What were the odds that the game would involve potentially kissing the person beside of you after her confusion earlier that day? Tsukiko assured herself once again that she only saw Chase as a friend, that wires had simply crossed and it would pass, but knowing how close their faces would be, watching as people passed the card, she felt as nervous as she was the day she lost her virginity to Mikoto. Taking a sharp breath in as the card grew ever closer, Tsukiko felt as though every ounce of experience, every drop of her confidence had been expelled from her body. ...Why? What the hell was wrong with her? She couldnā€™t tell if she was feverish, after drinking it was futile to even try to guess. Still, she wasnā€™t the type to back down, sheā€™d do this, she had to. Her reputation was on the line. Too many of her peers were playing. She was the youngest idol there. She couldnā€™t lose face and she refused to insult Chase in front of them. He was great, but gossip would not care for fact, the truth was irrelevant to these people. Truth... what exactly is the truth...? Tsukiko asked herself, unsure of her situation. Was she seriously starting to crush on Chase? As in... Chase, her best friend? Did this feel different because unlike the vast majority of the guys that she consorted with, Chase was genuinely a nice guy? Finally, it was their turn, Tsukiko accepting the card without issue from the guy before her, sucking it tightly to her lips as she turned her head to transfer it to Chase.

As honey eyes met gorgeous oceanic eyes, the normally confident girl felt her heart pounding at her ribcage, threatening to burst right through. Leaning in she tried to focus on the card, everyone in the circle fading away...

Image

Waking up with a start, Tsukiko could feel the cold sweat on her skin. The events from the night before having replayed in her dream. As her head was pounding like it was being continuously struck by a hammer, the idol quietly slipped out of her bed that Chase still occupied, rubbing her temples. What happened next? She couldn't even remember how they got home... Taking a drink from the glass on her nightstand she took the Tylenol beside it, smiling to herself. There was a second set prepared, and if she had to guess, Miyuki prepared them for the two Airdalen students. Putting her knuckles to her lips, Tsukiko was touched, nearly giggling at her uptight manager's display of kindness. She knew that he did not approve of the mischief that she got into, or that she let Chase spend the night, especially in her bed, but the fact that he extended his kindness to him regardless of his personal feelings warmed her heart. Just a big softie, eh Miyuki-sama?

ImageAs Chase was still asleep, Tsukiko slipped away to take a shower. Discarding her new swimsuit and tossing into the hamper, the hot water felt so amazing on her skin that Tsukiko softly hummed. Once she had run out of hot water, Tsukiko slipped out and into her clothes, putting on a long, satin nightgown. She located Chase's school shirt on her way out of her personal bathroom, smiling to herself before slipping it on over her gown. She could smell coffee brewing, aware that he was not particularly fond of the stuff... but she couldn't thrive without it. Tiptoeing out of her room she sought out the intoxicating smell until she almost bumped straight into Miyuki, "A-Ah, sorry Miyuki-sama." Tsukiko laughed, startled but glad that they managed to not spill from the tray in his hands. One tall glass of orange juice and a mug of coffee, "I love you." the idol blurted out to her manager. He was obviously taken aback, but the idol simply took her coffee from the tray before taking a long desperate drink, humming again as caffeine fired up her senses. She was unaware of how much she flustered her manager, placing her coffee back on the tray. Taking it off of his hands, she took it to her room, placing it on the nightstand before crawling back in the bed with Chase.

Unintentionally, she took a moment to just take in his peaceful, sleeping form. With the light trickling in from the curtains, he looked practically angelic. Color surfacing to her cheeks, Tsukiko shook her head banishing those unwelcome thoughts, the mischevious girl finally leaning in, but blew on his left ear rather than waking him by shaking him awake, where was the fun in that?

"Wake up~" she practically sang. Her hair was in a high, messy ponytail and his shirt unbuttoned over her nightgown, but she wasn't concerned about the state of her attire. Chase had always been one of the few people that had seen Tsukiko without a full face of makeup and wearing designer clothes. She didn't feel like she had to doll up in front of him, she always felt safe when he was around... and that was absolutely terrifying.

"Wake up~"

Chase's eyes slowly fluttered after warm air tickled his ear and a cheerful voice encouraged him to wake. His tired eyes showed Tsukiko as a blurry image. He could identify her voice in a crowded room, in the dark, and that's why it wasn't hard for him to recognize her now even as his head was throbbing in pain. Hangovers were one of the less likeable repercussions of attending a party that continued so late into the night and involved alcoholic beverages. He wasn't a light weight by comparison but he was a people pleaser who didn't find it easy to turn down offered drinks from those who went through all the trouble. He closed his eyes for a few seconds more, rubbed his temples before revealing his dreamy ocean-colored orbs and winning the fight against the urge to go back to sleep. "Good morning, Kuā€˜uipo." he greeted in the best energetic tone he could but unable to hold back all the sleepiness. He did not actually know if it was morning or if he had slept in and it was afternoon but he did know that it must have been one hell of a night. Not only did he have a hangover but he was still wearing the same clothing, a white hoodie undone and board shorts not absent of sand that he dragged in bed with him. The hoodie stuck to his skin from a mixture of sweat, alcohol and the beach waters. He was in complete disarray that he had surprised himself.

He hummed the Hawaiian tune of Aloha-Oe as he waited for his eyes to get used to the brightness of daylight. He had stayed the night at Tsukiko's place before that it was a comfortable routine in their friendship but back then they were younger, dating other people sometimes and he wasn't this untidy. When he saw her for the first time in a long time at Airdalen, he believed that their friendship would be resumed and nothing would change but it was naive of him. He realized that shortly after he had brushed back his hair with his fingers to see Tsukiko better. She was wearing his school shirt over a nightgown and leaning over him. Tsukiko had always been bold and flirtatious that he had come around to expect nothing less but this setting between them was out of the ordinary. They were very close physically, their faces and bodies. They had been close many times before but it was indescribably different somehow like something in the atmosphere had shifted. Chase was acutely aware of how much space had been closed and taken up, Tsukiko's cleavage teased him and his breathing was slightly heavier. He swallowed, his adam's apple bobbing.

It's fine. I'm fine... I just need to get rid of the headache. He did have a hangover after all so decided he was not thinking straight. He pulled himself up a bit without moving Tsukiko, to reach for the Tylenol on the nightstand. He popped it in his mouth hassle-free and drank the glass of juice thirstily until it was empty. Chase still Chase, remembered to prioritize the comfort and happiness of others first. He didn't want Tsukiko to feel neglected even though he was not at his best. "Did you have fun?" He asked with a charming smile, genuinely curious. He did promise that as her plus one, they would have the time of their lives last night. The more he tried to remember last night though, the more confused he felt. There were only glimpses, like scenes in a movie that he recalled.

He remembered a Japanese pop idol had invited them to join a game of Suck and Blow. He was sitting next to Tsukiko at the time and Tsukiko received the card from the boy on the other side of her then turned to him...

Chase sat up more, the pieces slowly coming together.

- That night, that game, he could sense that Tsukiko was nervous. They had been friends for long enough that the subtleties that went unnoticed by others, became a telltale sign to each other. He was under the influence but still for the most part, Chase. It was his personality to observe others and cater to them. He always wanted people around him to be happy and Tsukiko was part of that. "Is something wrong?" he asked her but his voice was drowned out by the other partygoers and the commotion the game stirred. In no time at all it was all but too late as Tsukiko accepted the card from the boy on the other side of her. Then she turned to him.

The two friends had been inseparable all night long joined by the hip. There were many beautiful and famous people who he did not really care for but he knew that Tsukiko did. In his eyes, this was her party, her scene and he came along because she invited him and it was a touching reunion. He wanted to spend time with her and get to know her all over again, just like before, just like old times... Face-to-face with Tsukiko with a small card pressed to her lips was not anything like before and old times. It mentally smacked him in the face as he delayed in realizing the predicament but there was no time to delay more. People were staring and they were their peers. Tsukiko was the youngest idol there and striving to climb higher. He knew very well how important losing face was to her and he guessed that as the reason behind her nervousness. Her manager's voice was ringing in his ears, "As both of you are aware pictures are quite damning. Please exercise caution for both of your reputations, but Mae Seung Jin, unfortunately, has much more to lose as a woman.ā€ It was about shopping not partying that day but he had a responsibility nonetheless. He had to decide and act quickly, while tipsy! -

Chase leaned closer to Tsukiko on the bed still in a bit of a daze and his hand reached up to caress her cheek.

- The memory continued to replay. He had to be committed to the game. He had to because Tsukiko was. Chase licked his lips to be prepared as maybe it would help the card stick better. He turned and lowered his head to accept the card from her but it wasn't as simple as he hoped it would be. He applied pressure, trying to get the card to stick more before the suck and blow step but in the fumbling, the card slipped and was blown away by a strong gust of wind without a chance to grab it. Maybe it was the alcohol setting off the balance, maybe it was nerves or maybe it was fate that was responsible. It could have been a combination of all of the above but Chase felt his heart leap out of his chest at the exact moment the card was gone. The circle's players erupted in unison and were restlessly chanting, "Kiss, kiss, kiss!" Other party attendants joined in as it stole their attention and some were beginning to put up their phones ready to take a photo. Social media was just a click or press away. The chanting was getting insanely loud that he couldn't hear anything else and he suspected he'd go deaf in both ears if they didn't stop. They had to do something to comply but also keep Tsukiko's reputation intact. -

His thumb brushed gently over her bottom lip.

- Chase made the first move. He pulled Tsukiko closer by wrapping an arm around her. His hand touched her lower back and glided upwards, stopping where her bikini was tied. He stared at her for a few seconds to make sure she wasn't afraid or against it before he angled his head. The camera flashes were blinding even in the darkness of the night with how many observers there was but Chase had in a knick of time, linked their hands together and raised them up to cover the actual kiss from view. As far as anyone could tell from just a photo at that viewpoint, they could have faked it. Only Chase and Tsukiko knew... -

We.. kissed. It was soft and light when their lips touched and no more but what did this mean for their friendship? What did it mean to Tsukiko? Chase said nothing else now that he remembered everything. He wanted to hear Tsukiko's thoughts. They had a lot to discuss or ignore.

Tsukiko did feel a bit guilty that she invited him to a party where they would be serving alcohol, she knew him long enough to know that he wouldn't turn down anything offered to him. He was far to polite to decline, even though doing so wasn't always an insult to someone, her friend was overly polite. When those oceanic blue eyes closed again she couldn't help giggling a little, "I felt pretty bad when I woke up too. Gomenasai~" she chimed her apology. While she felt bad, she wasn't entirely sorry. His company was appreciated, those parties always made her nervous attending alone. Not because she was scared that something bad would happen to her, just the fact that she knew no one was a little disheartening, she was the least popular given she was not from the country as many of the other idols were. The Korean idol didn't have any clout in Japan yet.

"Good morning, Kuā€˜uipo."

Right. They did playfully refer to each other that way the day before...but after what they did...it hit a little different hearing him say it, "Good morning, Aein~" Tsukiko chimed, smiling despite her nerves getting the best of her. It was more potent after the incident. It made the corner of her lips curve upward just a little, an uneasy smile threatening to cross them, an expression she didn't purposefully make. This was odd as Tsukiko usually was able to control her expressions, even under fire in some intense interviews over her scandalous behaviors and rumors that her manager always managed to make any evidence of this disappear. It was only now that Tsukiko realized the state of her bed, blinking a few times. Just how wasted were they when they got home? Well, that would maybe help a few things in regard to what happened the night before. Would he... remember? A part of her sincerely hoped he wouldn't. It would be much easier if he forgot it. Maybe, just maybe she could pretend things were fine if he didn't recall.

Although she knew it Chase's humming wasn't for the purpose of easing her nerves, it did help her relax a little. He seemed to be in a good enough mood to hum, so maybe he didn't remember the kiss after all? It was just conjecture, but it was possible and she was going to cling to even the slightest possibility. Alcohol had all sorts of effects after all.

Taking away from the elephant in the room for just a moment, Tsukiko had to admit it was refreshing to see Chase in a bit of disorder. Looking him over now was a bit dangerous, given the dim lighting and her brain being all tangled up, but it also came as a relief to know that even he was human. To see the occasional flaw in her friend was practically unheard of, but it seemed even Chase was a bit disconcerted. He typically went to great lengths to keep his appearance orderly, even when partying. It had been years so things could have changed, but it was still helpful to see a more human and imperfect side of her friend all the same.

When she visibly caught him gulping, she wondered if he was recalling the kiss, but then she remembered that her shirt was open enough to make her already ample amount of cleavage pretty visible and she was leaning over him pretty far. He'd seen plenty of her body the night before... it should have been fine, but it made her swallow pretty hard as well. A blush formed on her cheeks, Tsukiko not even sure why it was embarrassing her. She'd been in far less clothing not long ago with a certain Airdalen bad boy. This should have been nothing, nothing at all! She wasn't innocent, not by a landslide!

It seemed pretty fair to say that Chase did not forget the game they'd played the night before considering his reaction just then. Accepting that she wouldn't be able to pretend that it didn't happen, her heart began hammering in her chest. Would this ruin their friendship? They were under a lot of pressure, she was among all of her peers so it wasn't like Chase had much of a choice if he didn't want to humiliate her... He probably only did it to preserve her dignity.

As her mind raced to justify what happened, to make sense of it in a way that she could accept, Tsukiko's eyes shifted nervously. A twinge of fear sparkled in amber hues despite her efforts to rein her emotions in. To stay in control like she was in her interviews, on stage, why wasn't it working!? Fuck!

Chase raising up caused Tsukiko's heart to all but lodge in her throat. After the kiss, having him that close was unnerving, confusing, and against her best effort to steel her expression, her lips trembled as her cheeks became dusted with a much darker shade of red. Pull yourself together! This wasn't your first kiss, you've done much more serious stuff! Tsukiko scolded herself for acting like a total girl. Love, serious relationships, soulmates, she'd disregarded silly things like that a long time ago.

"Did you have fun?"

That felt like a loaded question, and as he only sat up more, Tsukiko's hand that was supporting her on the bed trembled a little, her long slender fingers gripping the sheet below them. He had been a gentleman, he didn't force himself on her, but she might have been more comfortable with what happened if he had been overly assertive. It was the nice guys that truly weakened her resolve after all. The assholes, the bad boys, she knew how to deal with them, she enjoyed it and found it quite easy to walk away. It was guys like Chase she didn't know what to do with, that were too...good. It frightened her to deal with his type in an amorous sense, especially him, he was her best friend! She didn't want to lose him, but could she face what they did? How it made her feel?

She typically avoided guys similar to Chase like the plague, but they were friends. They had been friends since before she became settled in her role as a massive flirt. Who could have guessed they would find themselves in this situation? They'd had a ton of opportunities before, it never happened. They were always just great friends...but now a line had been crossed they couldn't uncross.

The soft, almost ticklish sensation of Chase's hand caressing her cheek forced Tsukiko back to reality and her golden eyes widened considerably. He was so much closer, memories from the night before washing over her all over again, as if she even needed that reminder! She could still feel his hand on the bare skin of her back despite being mostly dressed now without Chase sparking up the memories within her. The way his thumb traced her lips the night before and he had drawn her in, it was all so fresh in her mind as if it was happening all over again. Her breath hitched between his gentle touch and revisiting the moment that changed everything. They had kissed, and in front of so many people. He'd protected their faces, her reputation, but it still happened even if there was no photo evidence, even if she was safe from media backlash. They knew.

Moreso, they still had to face this, or pretend it didn't happen... which she wasn't even sure she could do convincingly, not when he was close enough that she could feel his breath. This...This wasn't supposed to happen. He is too precious to simply toss aside like everyone else... It is what she did with her paramours when things got too complicated, but she was too vulnerable to actually build her walls back up. He was important... no one was supposed to be important, at least not romantically ever, ever again... and yet they kissed.

Even worse, she couldn't get it out of her head. And she couldn't admit it, even to herself, else it may grow roots, but the less responsible part of her had liked it, likely the culprit making it so difficult to focus with him so close. It had been tender, more than a little romantic, like something out of an epic teen romance film. Even with Makoto, they were too young to have a moment like that, the relationship with her first love was innocent, sweet, but clumsy. It was each of their first relationships, they were just learning about love... but...he died. She still couldn't admit that to herself. She couldn't face the guilt... so something pure, it terrified her.

She'd managed to avoid anything serious, to avoid getting close to a guy since Makoto, but Chase was in the friend zone... it blindsided her, the way she found herself feeling, and their intoxicated kiss... The thought of being helpless, of losing someone again, it had her trembling, the thought of losing him was just as terrifying as facing him as a man. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck! Tsukiko couldn't remember the last time she was this nervous, this embarrassed. This unguarded, "I'm...I'm sorry. I didn't mean to put you in a situation like that... She started, deciding to address it, even if it was the last thing she wanted to do. She was acting too out of character to just blow it off. She hated it, but she couldn't deny that the kiss had an effect on her behavior toward him. With her breath hitching, Tsukiko tried to avoid any acknowledgment that they had felt anything, "It must have been a lot of pressure, especially as we were drinking." Tsukiko forced a small laugh, running her free hand through her loose, waved hair. She was attempting to make light of the situation, but between her tremulous breaths, her body shaking like a leaf in the wind, and her voice wavering at times, her acting, for once, was completely off the mark. What am I doing...?

Chase wasn't a mind reader but he didn't need to be to see that Tsukiko was also changed after the events of last night. His usually daring, bold and flirtatious friend was blushing and self-conscious. The red tint on her cheeks and her restless amber hues a dead giveaway between friends who used to be very comfortable with each other. The closer he advanced towards her while recalling the night, the more Tsukiko appeared to tremble from her lips to her fingers gripping the bedsheet. Thumb over her lips, he could feel the trembling for himself and it wasn't stopping. The longer he lingered, the more Tsukiko reacted nervously. Chase didn't know what to make of it. It never occurred to him that she would be so affected by a kiss. He wasn't in denial about the effect it had on him but he was prioritizing her by trying to figure her out and if he had done anything wrong.

"I'm...I'm sorry. I didn't mean to put you in a situation like that..."

He removed his thumb and lowered his hand to the bed to let her speak freely and listened patiently. In all their years of friendship, he couldn't remember the last time Tsukiko apologized like that and in such a serious way. It wasn't their first party and they had attended some pretty wild ones together. As members of the entertainment industry, partying was almost essential as a way to build and maintain connections and celebrate success. They had seen and partaken in their fair share of silly party games too. This just happened to be the... first time they crossed the line. As far as their show of affection went, they had always been affectionate maybe even over the standard but they were just both affectionate people, friends. They hugged, they kissed on the cheek a few times, they held hands and called each other sweet nicknames like, 'Kuā€˜uipo', 'Aein' and it was all fine and dandy so long as nobody got hurt like significant others. They had a mutual understanding of the generously sized comfort zone within their friendship and it had never been challenged until now. Neither of them was acting the same or undisturbed over a fleeting, delicate, tender kiss on the lips...

"It must have been a lot of pressure, especially as we were drinking."

He thought he heard Tsukiko's breath hitching in her throat before she laughed a little. Chase let her words seep in as he watched her form quiver in front of him. He still didn't know what to think because he'd never seen her behave this way before. He always aimed to make and keep people happy around him. When he promised her they would have the time of their lives, he meant it but this outcome wasn't what he had in mind. He was confused. What should I do? What should I say? Chase's blue eyes looked away as he took a few seconds to gather his resolve. Tsukiko decided not to ignore what happened and bring it up. He owed her a response. If she wasn't going to ignore or dismiss the situation, then he wouldn't either. It would only be rude to and he cared more than enough to not run away.

"It wasn't your fault. You know how... parties can be." He touched his chin thoughtfully, struggling to think and process the right words when he was still recovering from a hangover. "Hmm.." His hand moved upward from his chin so that his index finger rested over his lips and he shut one eye as a sharp pain hit him on that side of his head. This is difficult. Why won't the medicine kick in already? It wasn't a conversation that could wait and be postponed until their hangovers had passed. Putting off the difficult topic might make it worse. Tsukiko was already shaken up and he didn't want to leave her and their relationship in that state to worsen over a longer period of time. "I was the one who made the first move and if you say... sorry then.." He gazed into her eyes and felt drawn in, his body moving on its own as his lips parted slightly in the middle of talking. He was about to kiss her, again. It was like a craving, a temptation, an awakened impulse. They were so close together alone on her bed in minimal clothing so the setting was perfect to be intimate.

However, he reigned himself in that he shouldn't and changed course. Chase instead lowered his head to lean on her shoulder, nuzzling her bare neck acting exhausted. --then it means I made a mistake. He finished his sentence in the safety of his unreadable mind. "Don't be sorry, Tsukiko.. okay?" Chase exhaled and wrapped his arms around her like he had many times before as a friend, gently rubbing her back in an attempt to comfort her and ease her trembling. He could feel her heart hammering in her chest against his own but he wouldn't say anything about it. He didn't want to lose her so he pulled her close before the distance could grow. "It was a lot of pressure but it's over now. We'll be okay. I'm here for you." He relied on what she said about pressure and decided to agree. He'd say anything to make her feel better again. He just didn't know what she wanted to hear.

As his hand returned to the bed, Tsukiko took a quiet breath in. It made it a bit easier to think, she didn't blame Chase for the situation, hell, she didn't even blame herself. It was a party, things got out of hand, it was bound to happen sometime. Honestly, it was a huge surprise that it never had in the past, it was probably a miracle or just dumb luck, but the fact was that it did happen last night and she was unable to forget it. She could remember a lot of issues in their friendship over the years. Insecure partners that didn't understand their special brand of friendship, paparazzi drama, running from the police after a wild party, and each had their own personal issues with family and the like, but they always got through it. Nothing they had been through together had been nearly this tough for her to navigate. She felt like she was grasping at straws, and she was terrified of losing her best friend, well, her only friend. She wasn't an easy person to get along with given how she held a general hatred toward other girls, how she had to be the center of attention with guys, Tsukiko was a handful that most wouldn't want to touch with a ten-foot pole. While she was a generous spender when it came to her paramours, she was pretty needy in regards to affection and attention, starved for it really.

It was a problem, her behavior, it was risky, she knew that. Tsukiko wasn't entirely proud of herself for how she behaved, but it filled a void she couldn't address, one that was too painful to admit she even had. Rather than talking about it, healing, Tsukiko chose to drown it out with parties, with guys, even if none of it ever lasted, even if she wasn't interested in the guy at all aside from him being a distraction from her pain. It wasn't healthy, but it was working, more or less. She didn't have to face the real issue as long as she kept her loneliness well fed. However, this time, it wasn't simple. If things got too real, if she felt herself even remotely catching feelings, Tsukiko would drop a guy just as fast as she plucked them out of a crowd and she felt no remorse doing it. Chase wasn't someone she could simply discard like that. Even if she could, she wouldn't be able to move on about her day as if nothing happened. She would feel guilty, and in all honesty, she didn't want to do it.

This was hard on Chase as well, Tsukiko knew that. He was a people pleaser, he always put others first, to a fault, she often would scold him for it, but it never changed anything. It was who Chase was, and honestly, it was part of the reason he was so difficult, why he was such a threat to her version of the status quo. He's...always been too nice. Like... No! Don't think about him. You can't. Tsukiko harshly reprimanded herself as her thoughts dared to veer to her relationship with Makoto. While Chase was his own person, the two boys were both insanely kind, understanding, warm. Makoto wasn't ridiculously attractive like Chase, she'd met him before her time as an idol, but they had that much in common. Enough to trip her up like this, to dredge up the painful memories and trauma that kept her from ever having a meaningful relationship, meaningful friendships, or anything worth true value really.

"It wasn't your fault. You know how... parties can be."

Nodding ever so slightly, Tsukiko agreed. Parties were their own entity, and it was unpredictable what turn a party would take. They were volatile, and they quickly got out of control in the wrong hands, or the right ones, depending on one's perception and tastes. As she saw his facial features tighten, Tsukiko noted he was still struggling with his hangover. This was horrible timing, the conversation should have happened later, when they were both prepared, less hungover, but it had already begun. Shutting it down now, it didn't feel like an option, she wasn't sure what would happen to them... but it also felt like it would do them no service to not be at one hundred percent.

"I was the one who made the first move and if you say... sorry then.."

He's going to apologize... it isn't his fault either though. It was impossible circumstances! This is a mess... Tsukiko thought to herself, torn from her thoughts as he grew ever closer, much like the night before. Her body froze, her heart beating so hard she thought it might explode if their lips did happen to make contact. Wetting her lips, her breath hitched again in her nerves. The thought of kissing again wasn't unpleasant, she wanted to do it as well. Chase wasn't alone in that regard, as much as real intimacy terrified her she wanted the same thing, but she knew she shouldn't. Couldn't. It would only make things messier, make her relationship with Chase harder, it would complicate her friendship in ways she didn't feel she was ready for. She wasn't girlfriend material for a nice guy like Chase, she would only hurt him. She wasn't equipped to be a 'good' girlfriend. He was too good for her in every way. Still, logic was not in the room, so Tsukiko closed her eyes. She was the farthest thing from a model of self-control. She was impulsive, selfish, childish, so it came as a relief when Chase shut the moment down, as she didn't have the discipline to do so herself, or the heart. The last thing she wanted to do was reject him in such a delicate moment, but it felt like either choice would damage things. If she pursued this with him, she would undoubtedly hurt him, she was no good, a flirt and a tease. She enjoyed attention of men far too much, she was hardly ever faithful to her 'boyfriends' after Makoto, purposefully choosing bad boys because it was easier to do as she liked. They seldom cared what she did, and if they did, it was for their pride or reputation, not because they genuinely cared for her. Chase...he cared too much, too deeply... and she would surely make mistakes that would rip him apart. She would ruin it. It was the only thing she knew how to do.

"Don't be sorry, Tsukiko.. okay?"

ImageThe hug was too reassuring, Tsukiko felt unsanctioned tears sliding down her cheeks. The girl seldom cried, but she was so relieved, and his embrace was too comforting, her emotions got the best of her. She was sorry, regardless of his reassurance that she had done nothing wrong. He was too good, too nice. She didn't deserve him, even as a friend. How in the world did she get so lucky to have such a person in her life? Even as a friend, she felt unworthy of the person holding her. As much as she wanted to say something, to reassure him too, there was a knot in her throat. She couldn't get words out through her tears, so she simply returned his embrace, her long slender fingers releasing the sheets to wrap her arms around him. With one in his hair and the other shoulder blade, Tsukiko clung on tightly, as if he might fade away if she let up even a little.

"It was a lot of pressure but it's over now. We'll be okay. I'm here for you."

Biting her bottom lip and releasing it, Tsukiko let out a weak laugh, "Me too." she agreed. It was scary, they'd pushed beyond her comfort zone, but she couldn't let go of him. He was too important. She knew she wasn't being fair. She had kissed back that night, hadn't tried to shut it down... She had been feeling a kind of way for some time but lied to herself that it was normal. I'm the worst... how could I catch feelings... He deserves a lot better.

Tsukiko reminded herself. She ruined one amazing guy, she wasn't going to let herself destroy another one, "O-Oh, we should go back to the mall. I have some shopping to do for my Kris Kringle, and well, Christmas in general. The bathroom is over there. I'll grab you something to wear." Tsukiko stammered, trying to get them out of the current atmosphere. If they were among people again, perhaps they could start putting what happened behind them that much quicker.

Chase was worried that Tsukiko might push him away. Even though they had known each other for a long time, it didn't ease the anxieties creeping in. When she started crying, he brushed her hair back gently and let her let it all out. She hugged him back just as tightly earning an internal oomph as he got surprised.
"Me too."

Her little laugh although weak was reassuring that they could work past this and that she wasn't letting go either. He didn't know what to do next as he continued to massage and pat her back. Thought after thought occurred on what to say or what to do to remedy the situation but they all never surfaced, Tsukiko taking the initiative.

"O-Oh, we should go back to the mall. I have some shopping to do for my Kris Kringle, and well, Christmas in general. The bathroom is over there. I'll grab you something to wear."

It was a sudden, impulsive plan but a distraction nonetheless. He didn't have any brighter ideas so... "I'll go take a shower then." He agreed with a nod of the head and dragged himself off her bed and into the bathroom she directed him to. Closing the door behind him, he exhaled and messed up his hair even more than it already was. It wasn't getting any messier than the messy situation of friends kissing each other on the mouth. He tapped his forehead against the cold tiled wall as the headache slowly subsided before removing his clothing and stepping into the shower.

The warm water soothed and relaxed the tension building in his muscles but he really couldn't get his mind off what had happened. A part of him was worried, scared even. Despite his people pleasing attitude, it was impossible to keep everyone. He had exes, a lot of them, all who at some point got sick of him being too good and too clingy. He had cried over them, a lot too. Some days, it felt like he might not see the sun again. A heart was not a cheap commodity.

They had almost kissed a second time, Chase not lying to himself. Tsukiko had closed her eyes in preparation too. She wasn't refusing him? Did she want to? Ow! He bumped the shower head, losing track of his height when he was upright as he didn't adjust it beforehand. He rubbed the sore spot on his head and turned the shower off. Thinking this much wasn't really getting him anywhere. He was just going in circles. Chase grabbed a few towels, one to dry his hair and the other to wrap around the lower half of his body before hopping out and doing his best not to drip everywhere.

He did hear his phone ring sometime in the middle of his showering but he wasn't concerned. It was probably Anzu checking up on him or so he thought. It rang a second time as he was about to step outside the bathroom, as he normally did but there was a little bit of pause. If he walked out now, would it make things worse? He wasn't clothed and had just a towel to cover him. "Tsukiko?" He knocked on the door instead, opening it just a little to take a peek if she was there with the clothes ready, the towel he used to dry his hair falling on his shoulders. His phone rang a third time. He was starting to wonder if it was an emergency.

The sound wasn't coming from the bedroom so he must have dropped it somewhere when they arrived at her place. The first was a school notification, and the last two were from a girl he was barely acquainted with from the party last night sending him flirtatious messages. The phone was unattended and unlocked, Chase staying in the bathroom until Tsukiko would say it was alright to come out or until she took too long that he'd have to go look for her.

Being in Chaseā€™s arms, in her bed, it was a dangerous situation to remain in for Tsukikoā€™s incredibly confused heart. So when they parted for him to take a shower, Tsukiko smiled warmly. It felt safe, comfortable even, in his arms. Yet it was too comfortable. She didnā€™t deserve things like that. He was too good for someone as damaged as her. She was as toxic as they came to other girls. She tried to kiss a guy that she clearly knew Shiori cared about when her cousin struggled to let herself feel anything for anyone. What kind of monster did things like that? She slept with the hellion of Airdalen after the Halloween dance and fled the scene at first light! She wasā€¦ a poison. A poison she wouldnā€™t allow to infect Chase.

When the door closed behind Chase, Tsukiko allowed herself to fall back on the bed and cry even harder, ensuring that she did so very quietly. It wasnā€™t fair. Why did she have to develop feelings for the only light left in her world?

Wiping away her tears, Tsukiko forced herself to her feet. She couldnā€™t leave Chase naked in the bathroom, he needed something to change into that didnā€™t smell of the beach. Plucking one of her managerā€™s more stylish outfits from his meticulously organized closet, Tsukiko began to walk back toward her room just in time to hear Chaseā€™s phone. Where was that coming from? She went through the apartment, searching, not finding it until the second ring.

Snooping wasnā€™t beyond Tsukiko, but she had never done so with Chase. She was about to return to her room, on the other side of the apartment until she saw the preview of the last message flash across the screen, coming in just as she found the phone.

Her lips tightly pressed together as her hand gripped the phone tighter. Her body trembled seeing the message, a reaction she wasnā€™t accustomed to. Sure, she had been jealous many times in her lifeā€¦ but never when it came to Chase and other girls. He was the one person she never felt that she had to balance on a tightrope to impress. She was a vindictive girlfriend, she had wrecked many girls lives in middle school for even looking at her boyfriends.

That wretched side of her had her thumb hovering over the button that just needed to be swiped to open his phone, he never remembered to lock his phone down, which kind of concerned her if she was being honest. It would be easy to delete the message or write something nasty to the girl pretending to be Chase and just block the number if she wanted tā€”

"Tsukiko?"

He isnā€™t yours. You donā€™t have the rightā€¦ she reminded herself, clenching her eyes shut and shaking her head. What she was about to doā€¦ it was wrong and exactly the reason she couldnā€™t be in a genuine relationship. She was toxic. She almost sent a nasty message to a girl flirting with Chase, almost violated the privacy of her best friendā€™s phone.

That was a line she knew she couldnā€™t crossā€¦ and if they dated, she couldnā€™t promise she wouldnā€™t. She wasnā€™t good at trusting others and if she learned nothing else about Chaseā€¦ he hated having his privacy invaded. Soā€¦ as much as it hurt to do nothing whilst knowing the content of the last message, that was exactly what she did. He would never forgive me if I did something ugly like thatā€¦ I canā€™t lose him, even if we have to remain friends to ensure that doesnā€™t happen. She was near tears again, and it was enough to drive her mad. She had to stop that crap. She couldnā€™t keep bursting into tears!

Before he had the chance to come looking for her she quickly returned to her room, ā€œSorry, I heard your phone so I went on a scavenger hunt. Let me put on some leggings real quick!ā€ She called out to him, refusing to look in the direction of the door at first.

The pinkette searched her drawers haphazardly, snatching up a pair of sunglasses and put them on, as well as a pair of colorful leggings from one of the lower dresser drawers to go under her baggy shirt. It was a slightly disheveled look for an idol to have, especially with her unkempt hair, but she didnā€™t have the energy to go all out.

Putting on a beanie that matched the color of her leggings, she let out a long sigh, trying to compose herself. Sunglasses indoors came across as a bit pretentious, but more than anything Tsukiko wanted to hide her eyes in the event they chose to betray her again. With his change of clothes neatly folded in hands and his phone placed on top. While she inadvertently peeked at the message preview, no messages had been opened, deleted, or replied to. Tsukiko reach everything out in front of the crack in the door, ā€œGood thing I heard your phone. Be careful, it is on the top.ā€ She forced a smile and a dash of her usual cheerfulness to her voice.

As an idol that had done her fair share of interviews, she knew how to fake her tone, if nothing else. She was a singer for Peteā€™s sake, she had to master at least that much. She was about to turn away, not confident that she could fool him into believing she hadnā€™t seen the messages if she continued, and she didnā€™t want him to think she went through with going through his phone when she had just barely overcome that temptation.

Walking away was the plan, but her brain had a bit of a meltdown getting a glimpse of him with a towel draped over his shoulders. She couldnā€™t see anything else because of the door, but it was enough to freeze her in place for a moment with flushed cheeks, ā€œU-Uhm, you do realize that is a pretty dangerous sight even when it is only that much, right?
