✽ Although I’m beautiful like a perfect dream

xxxx"None."
It was the perfect answer. There was no denying that Ursula was having fun with the sought after basketball captain at her beck and call. She didn't bribe or manipulate him like the other school pawns nor did she sugarcoat who she is into some fantasy ideal girl. Then and there, she wanted to clap her hands in glee for the minimal effort it took to acquire him. On the other hand, it was too good to be true and she didn't want to be swept away by a flimsy delusion. She had a history of people disappointing her and she would not let it happen so easily again.

xxxxHer hand was squeezed by his. "It is as you say, every word, Kim-san." Devone looked up at him and contemplated those words, words that were firm and obedient. What did I do to deserve you? His absolute loyalty was inconceivable. She wondered when and where it was that lead to this moment. All she knew was they were once mere acquaintances and in a matter of days, had taken a leap into this new relationship she was having difficulty describing for the odd nature of it. Devone could answer who he is and she can answer who she is but she didn't know how to answer what they were. Comrades? It was the word that came to mind yet somehow it did not seem to capture all of it. And I have done nothing to be a comrade in return. Ryou had assisted her in her times of trouble but she had not done anything for him. "You owe me nothing." Ryou's words echoed in her head but her unease of a debt owed still left a pit in her stomach because a 'kind world where people care and do favors for naught' isn't what she believes in but far from. Could I be wrong?

xxxxA speeding car was headed for the sidewalk where some students stood but Devone didn't call out or continue watching for the ending. As if it were none of her concern, she let the disaster happen in the background as she moved to stand in front of Ryou. Her hands reached out to caress the sides of his face and guide his focus to stay on her purely and selfishly. There was a crowd behind her and talk about two students being possibly injured but.. Eyes on me. She didn't care. There was mayhem every second of every day and it didn't make a lick of difference if it was happening within one foot of where she stood or halfway across the globe. Such instances only mattered where she is personally involved.
"Say it again." Devone heard his agreement with her crystal clear but she didn't have the pleasure of observing him say it word by word. They stood so close and her hold made it look like a lovers scene but to her, it was the same as holding onto a tool and seeing what it can do. Her red-brown eyes looked on calculatingly to try to catch him in a lie but deep down beneath a cold front, she wanted to believe there was a truth. Wouldn't anyone?

xxxxHer concentration was broken by irritation as she overheard Goro making a phone call to report the incident and the reckless driver's number plate. That wasn't in his job description. Releasing Ryou, she turned around to scold him. "You're not a policeman anymore Goro." She rolled her eyes at his sense of justice but didn't say anything more or stop him. She then threw her school bag suddenly at the other bodyguard, Isaac who had been standing by. "Start the car before more bodies needlessly block the way." Devone ordered in a menacing tone. Her temperament had changed from highschooler to the employer outside of school who demanded to have things her way or else. Goro and Isaac were older, taller and more built than her but it didn't affect the way she executed her authority over them. They were paid to obey and her attitude was their problem.

xxxxOnce more, she turned around to face Ryou and entwined their hands as she did before when they made the blood pact, a symbol of their bond. "You and I.. we could make the whole world jealous." It referenced their talk before about jealousy and also how the rest of the school was viewing their alliance. Her eyes gleamed with mischief and her lip gloss shined with her signature smirk. It was the last look before she spun on her heel to turn away, stepping into the car that was held open for her by Goro. "Until tomorrow." Devone added quickly with a light and playful voice just as Goro moved to close the door of the hummer limousine. ...Morinozuka Haruhi. I'll remember that.

"I don't care what they do,
I just wanna be with you,
and I don't mind all the times
we will fight just to get through,
yeah, 'cause all these empty faces,
they got nothin' on yours."
================================

The sound of rubber kissing asphalt with a dangerous grit made Ryou's silvery eyes overflow with urgency and a far-away vision as he instinctively pulled Kim towards him, pressing her body against his. He did not care if she would be offended by what he did. All that mattered is that her body was enveloped by his arms. That she was safe there as he even turned his back from where the sound came from, shielding her with his body. There was a clear sense of desperation in his actions. His heartbeat was even erratic in its rhythm. His eyes clouded by an unknown haze.

The scene before Ryou was that of shouts, fire, pain, and a lot of blood. His eyes see a memory that anchored him with great possessiveness. It was like a demon that pulled him with such obsession to a world of void. However, a touch of warmth dispersed his reverie and his gaze slowly cleared. His arms around Kim loosened and eventually fell to his side. It was just like how he said to her before. He is helpless before her. His eyes slowly yet certainly focused on her as those hands held his sanity even if she did not know though. The sounds of panic due to the incident were completely drowned by her command.

Ryou was unable to answer immediately though. He was trapped in a haze earlier and was still in the process of understanding what Kim meant. So, it took a while before it clicked to him. "None. It is as you say, every word, Kim-san." He repeated his statement from before, but this time it carried a deadly sense of weight. It was spoken like an oath. They stayed like that for a while. He never looked at anyone else but her. Their moment only ended when she let him go and along the way provided him a confirmation of what happened around them.

Even with the knowledge of an accident, Ryou did not move an inch from his position nor did he remove his eyes on Kim. He did not even say anything or express dislike to what she was doing to her employees from what he could tell. He did say she could do whatever she wants. It would not change anything within him. He would not stop her as long as she wants it. Just like how she faced him and held his hand once more, its warmth reminded him to grip reality and also her hand was truly small, just like how her body was as well. She is fragile and delicate in his arms and yet she is without doubt a strong individual to handle it all. She is amazing.

"Let the world be jealous then." Ryou started without looking away from Kim. "You are the one who matters." He said with such a straight face and then again that is one of his definitive trait. His words were always his code and her smile despite its playful and dark nature comforted him. She was most likely unaware of this. Then, their hands were separated as she entered her car. "Yes. Be safe, Kim-san." Just like that, he watched until her car was out of his sight.

Only then did Ryou moved from his spot. He then cast a glance towards the crowd of people where the incident happened. He could not see who were exactly caught up with it since the spectators covered them. However, he heard Miyamoto's voice telling others to leave. That was an effective deterrent for him. And so, he left Airdalen for the day. After all, he still has to pick up Hikaru, go to work, and then tell her his day.

"It will be fine." "Hm?" "We'll be all right." He wasn't sure what to say really and that fact became exaggerated when his senior partner began to fix the bangs in his hair like she was his older sister or mother. In the car, Bishop's mother was having a fit. Laughing and fan girling seeing this public display of affection- or what could at least be misconstrued as displays of affection. It had turned some heads, prying eyes of parents and non-students as well as other students who were enthralled at the social mismatch that Bishop and Fuyuki. The elegant princess that many students adored, her personality and bright smile illuminated everyone and everything around her, both seniors and juniors. And the foreign junior, a seeming trend with the most recent batch to either the chagrin or delight of the faculty and students alike. Not just a foreigner, but a kid nobody knew anything about and hadn't seemed to make a name for himself other than that one time he got dissed by Devone. "There, all done. You look perfectly handsome now." "F-Fuyu-Senpai..."

In a flash his mother's vehicle pulled up, the purple haired woman was all smiles staring at the two. "Shall we, B-kun? Let me meet your Okaa-san, okay?" He looked down at her hand again, remembering the time he was trying to pull away and resist Fuyuki's almost clinging to him when he wanted to help his friend Akira. "Hai." He turned to escort Fuyuki to the car and opened the passenger door for her to enter and he would follow in to sit by her side.
As soon as the two got settled in his mother spun around with a wide smile. [color]”Hi sweety~! Who is your little friend here! She is absolutely stunning~!” Bishop was already red in the face by how ecstatic his mother was for meeting Fuyuki. ”Ah, mom. This is Hakuryu, Fuyuki-Senpai… She’s my senior partner that’s been assigned to me at school.” ”AH~ That’s so precious, it is so great to meet you miss Hakuryu-chan~ I trust you’ve been taking care of my little golden boy. Hmm~” Bishop twitched at one of the nicknames his mother gave him, not wanting Fuyuki know about that. He was going to die.. Fuyuki would get a chance to introduce herself further before his mother left the curbside, going in a direction Bishop wasn't expecting. "Hm? Mom... We going to get food1" "Hm? Oh, something like that! We're going to your grandmother's- hahaha!" "WHAT?!" "Mhm~, it's time for us to see her and your auntie. By the way, you need to go back to your lessons soon okay? I want to see my golden boy earn his black belt, just like his momma! Hahaha~!" <This is a nightmare...> The blonde junior could onlyy think about the nosy women he had to live with and all the questions they'd barrage him and Fuyuki.

At the same time this was happening, his mother would begin to have polite and curious conversation with his senior (Fuyuki) gleaning as much information as possible from simple talk. She was a very perceptive woman when it came to her son; which extended to the girls around him- especially ones he brought home!

Much like spring flowers upon white snow, Fuyuki moved with an inherent grace that can only be related to an upbringing of esteemed lineage. She settled herself inside the car after Bishop escorted her. There was then a short exchange between the mother and son pair where she was introduced. "It is a pleasure to meet you Trander-san. Please call me Fuyu if it is not much trouble." Her voice and her tone delivered a melodic tone of sophistication and polite smile on her lips. She even bowed her head a bit. It was indeed quite different from how she is around her peers and juniors. Her presence reflected that of noble lady.

"Golden boy?" Fuyuki queried as curiosity glimmered in her acacia-hued eyes. She gazed at Bishop for an answer, but it was his mother who provided it as she looked back at the older woman. Interest is clearly shown in her visage. "Oh, that is incredible!" She was clearly invested in listening to Bishop's mother. "I did not know that Bishop-kun is that athletic." She looked at him and smiled warmly. "It truly fits him." And then, she looked back at Bishop's mother. "I hope my presence is not troublesome, Trander-san. I believed it is proper to introduce myself since, I would be serving as your son's guide in school matters."

It is notable that Fuyuki and Bishop's mother are conversing amiably and it is mostly about the one guy inside the car, Bishop. It was interrupted for a moment when he questioned the direction his mother was taking. From the side, she found his reactions quite funny. She does understand the tendency of children to be embarrassed with their parents around. After all, the parents tend to overly share every minute detail of their child's life foolish deeds or not. In a parents' eyes, everything is adorable. Actually, she felt both apologetic for putting her junior in such a position. But, she was also entertained of what is happening. "Pardon me, is it all right for me to accompany both of you? I would not like to impose in a family event." She offered a moment of respite for her junior. "I do not mind going home for today. We could do my greetings at some other convenient time." Her demeanor was completely serene showing that aristocratic lineage.

However, Fuyuki's respite was turned down by Bishop's mother. It is not like she did not expect that. His mother is quite curious about her and she was used to such attention. It comes with her birthright in a way. "If it is fine, then please allow me to bother you with my presence a bit longer. Thank you, Trander-san. Bishop-kun." She offered a small, yet gentle smile to show her appreciation for being permitted to accompany them in a family gathering. After that, his mother continued to make small conversations with her. She did not shy away and entertained it. That was something she was fairly accustomed to growing up. "So, Bishop-kun is an only child. No wonder he grew up very loved. I am actually the youngest of three children. " Moreover, she knew exactly what to share and what not to keep a dialogue going and also end it at a good note.

"Military? What a coincidence. My brother is a member of JSDF-Air Force. Perhaps, there would be an opportunity to meet." Fuyuki shared a possible connection. People feel at ease and comfortable when there is a common connection. It does not need to be deep as long as there is a matched interest, eventually the flow of conversation would run towards a more accommodating pace. "Bishop-kun is a wonderful junior. He had helped me more than I did to him." She shared when his mother stated that Bishop is lucky to have someone like her as a senior. "It is I who is lucky to have him." She looked at Bishop beside her and smiled pleasantly. "Thank you, Bishop-kun." Just like so, the trip to Bishop's grandmother's house had continued to be rather lively at the sake of Bishop though. For now, it had been established that Fuyuki comes from an affluent family with military backgrounds.

Although, it would be noted that not from the car Fuyuki, Bishop, and his mother is in, there is another black car following at a fair distance. That cannot be helped much after all, she is considered an important figure not only for her family, but also for the whole of Japan in a sense due to the pending responsibility that would be passed onto her soon enough.

Everything was so loud, noisy and chaotic as her head started spinning and the crowd was a blur. She was enveloped in a comforting warmth that ushered her still and quiet. She’d never known a mother’s embrace or a lover’s but this was the closest. She felt like a child all over again seeking refuge from a world she barely understood. Her confidence was gone, her school status forgotten and all other aspects of her outward appearance was meaningless and distant now. There were staring eyes and moving lips passing the same amount of judgement as they did concern. What did it matter if she was popular? Anyone else in her place would have experienced much the same just less of it. Disaster was a magnet to attention.

"Gen-chan, listen to me: breathe slowly. Take a deep breath. Everything's gonna be alright,"
Gen didn’t say a word but listened carefully. It was the only voice that soothed her in that vast ocean of noise. Breathe.. she closed her eyes and focused on every inhale and exhale but the rhythm was unsteady as were her nerves. "Everything's-" Her savior winced, "gonna be alright." A single tear fell from her eye trailing down her cheek. She said she'd never want to hurt him but he had hurt himself rescuing her. She was such a burden and her persistent insecurities told her she wasn't worth it. I'm sorry.

"Let Gen go now. You might crush her."
She heard her given name spoken from behind her, expressing a personal relation to her compared to the crowd around. She couldn't have guessed who it might be until later. She lifted her head away from Jay and returned his space back to him. Gen was cold on her own but she had to face reality sooner or later. She was a lady, not a baby. Her slender fingers brushed the cemented ground to get up and carry her weight but her pink-purple eyes adjusted to the gold hue before her and the voice that called her name again. "Gen." Her tear finished falling onto her uniform. Miyamoto-san? She was in disbelief as her crush noticed her, spoke softly and acted familiar to her after a time of neglect. "Come with me." Her eyes traced his open arms, inviting another feeling of warmth. This was a gentle side of Kazuki not many got to see. "I need to know you're fine."

Gen's lips quivered as she thought about how nice it would be to listen, to be with him for just a short time. Was there harm in playing along if she didn't put a blindfold on her heart to his tricks and expected nothing short of a player? Could she let her ideals go, be like other girls and live in a moment of bliss where everything appears perfect.. was it a crime to want that? If she didn't expect any more then she wouldn't get hurt and still have the experiences of a love. Gen was drawn to him with his devilishly handsome looks, his carefree spirit and charm. For once, that guy she liked.. he was present just for her, his eyes held only her and his arms maybe if she just closed that distance. "Okay?"

Her hand slowly reached out for him but grasped air. Her heart longed for him but not this, not now. This wasn't romantic. She wasn't even sure if this was authentic. Did it take a dangerous occurrence to make him look at her like she is precious? You can’t- Her lips parted but no sound came out. You don’t- She moved forward and tried again. You won’t- Her eyes glossed with a heavy heart as she pulled back her hand completely and held it against her chest. Just say it!!! Her blue hair swayed in the breeze as she realized that somehow she was unable to verbalize her decision to Kazuki.

Gen gave up on confronting her love interest and looked to Jay again. He was a dear friend who had her gratitude and his condition was important too. Jay-- It happened again. Her voice wasn't coming out but she didn't think hard on it because they were both involved in the incident. Perhaps she was just shaken with Kazuki because of the different behavior then with Jay because of the close call? Her new roommate and oldest friend Tadashi was nearby and there was no reason for her to have trouble talking to him. Tadashi- she tried to call out to him but nothing had changed.

Gen's small body curled in fear. My voice...it’s.. She tried to say anything and everything but no words were said even as she scratched desperately at her throat. It was useless and her dreams shattered beneath her feet. ImageJohnny, Tadashi and Kazuki were there for her but she was mentally miles away in a dark place. As an aspiring actress, she relied on her voice to sing and to act. It was her gift and in the blink of an eye it was, gone. Her identity was, gone. It was all that she had.. her childhood, her present and her future. Gen didn't know what to do so she panicked and ran.
She was always afraid of being alone but she had never been more alone than ever. Her eyes overflowed with tears as her shoes hit the pavement one after the other with urgency. Gen didn't know where she was going but what did it matter if she had lost what made her, her? I should have just died. She ran through a group as all her thoughts shifted to negative and downhill. Every face she ran past came across as an unkind, judgemental stranger. The churchgoers who ridiculed her when she was young surfaced in her mind and how they despised her for the way she looked. I’m cursed. They were right about me. How foolish I was to think I could be admired, be special, be on stage like this? The mute actress! Gen turned a corner and out of breath and energy, fell to the ground as her tears refused to stop spilling. God, why? Why me? she cried out as her tears formed a small puddle, reflecting the haunted eyes back at her.

Johnny “Jay” Farelli

Kazuki’s appearance was somewhat calming, but the things he said were confusing. Crush her? Never. Even in the heat of the moment, he instinctively made sure she wouldn’t get crushed. He even made sure there was a proper channel for fresh air to flow through. At-first, he thought the phrase was meant to be a tension-relieving joke. However, the look in Kazuki’s eyes didn’t seem like those filled with concern. Rather, they seemed almost… emotionless, or even predatory, like a lion giving a cold glare to someone approaching their cub.

As Kazuki growled at the gathering crowd, Johnny’s mind raced. From his limited interaction, Kazuki seemed spirited and care-free, and hot to handle- a lot like Lars back in America. Also like Lars, he grew cold and difficult to read whenever something really bothered him. Why was he looking at me like… I’m an enemy? Is it Gen-chan herself… or the car? He wondered. He had terrible flashbacks involving the car already, but it was possible he wasn’t the only one.

“Are you okay, Kaz?” Johnny found himself asking as light seemed to return to his emerald-green eyes. His own gaze showed no resentment, only genuine concern just as much as he showed it for Gen. Also in his eyes was a hint of confusion toward the unusually cold and distant look he was receiving. Even if he considers Kazuki a buddy, he couldn’t let go of Gen simply by his say-so. In the American’s mind, it was up to Gen and Gen alone.

However, when Gen herself seemed fine, Johnny was about to help her up to her feet. By then, his own breathing and heart rate had normalized. For a moment, he thought Gen was gonna be fine. However, he caught a glimpse of a tear, and the sight of her hands going to her throat.

Johnny’s brow furrowed in concern, and he was about to ask her what was wrong, when the blue-haired diva tore from his proximity and ran off. “Gen!” He called, “Gen…?” The American took a step forward, but something made him stop. The sight of onlookers whispering gossip while eyeing the tall foreigner, the tell-tale snaps of phones taking pictures. Soon, on social media, there would be pictures spread of the foreigner, looking baffled, concerned, and confused all at once. He was so trapped in his thoughts that he didn't care about social media; he didn't even realise his senior was nearby.

He recalled the brawl he had unfortunately been caught up in. She does have a rep… If I forced more help, it might start to hurt her rep… He ensured that she was unharmed by the event, that much he could be certain about. Everything else was psychological, and only a closer friend could help with that, Johnny figured. Rhys is still here, isn’t he?

He gazed at the ground, deep in thought, before he felt a buzz on his leg. With a flinch, he produced his phone. With a single glance, he found that he was starting to run late for work. With one more look at the corner Gen-chan disappeared to, Johnny turned and headed out. He paused once, and returned to his phone. He tapped out a message to Gen. At-first, he wrote “call me”, but he remembered the point where Gen put her hands to her throat. His eyes widened as a theory entered his mind. He couldn’t be certain of it, but he still typed: “Text me back as soon as you can. If you’re still not feeling alright, I’ll be at work, over at [Address here.]” The Forge was not too far away- only a few blocks- easily walking distance for someone smaller than the foreigner.

With one more look back at the campus, Johnny pocketed his phone and continued onward. The Phantom lingered at the corner of his vision.

That afternoon, he walked to the Smith’s. He couldn’t work himself up to run. When he entered the front door to the workshop, the Smith looked up from his work table, puzzled. “You’re late!” He called with a smile.

“Gomenasai, Sensei!” Johnny apologized.

“Got caught up saving someone else’s life?” The Smith guessed as a joke as he pat the sling around his arm.

“Well…” The foreigner cleared his throat. He decided to laugh at said joke instead of coming across like he was bragging. Johnny then returned to the priority subject. As he walked, he thought about something he could do in order to apologize to Gen. He grabbed her without asking permission, which was usually frowned upon in Japan. “Uh… Sensei! I’d like to make something small, like… uhm…”

“Ooh, I thought I’d test you with something small, but you have a project in mind already?” The Smith paused as he noted the calendar. After taking a step toward the calender, the Smith rapped a finger on the upcoming date. “This is a gift.” the old man less asked and more stated as fact. His mouth curled slightly as he gazed back at the foreigner, “For a girl?”

“Yeah- Well, I mean- it’s for a friend,” Johnny corrected. He could swear he caught a flicker of a mischievous nature in the blacksmith’s eyes. “What would be something I could make?”

“A bracelet!” the smith chimed automatically, “Simple, yet elegant. Good project to- how you Americans say it- Learn the ropes. What sort of material are you looking to use?”

“Well, I-“ Johnny didn’t catch “material” or “bracelet”. He said as such, flubbing the pronunciation of both words.

“Hah! Of course you don’t know ma-ter-i-als.” The Smith smirked as he enunciated the word slowly. “Come on,” he beckoned, “Let’s get you started.”

Johnny soon found himself staring at a series of metal bars. All of them were marked with a series of numbers. The Smith was bringing out more pieces of material. Tiny plates tagged as varying types of gold, bronze, silver, and less precious metals. “I don’t think I know how to work with-“

“That’s why you’re here, isn’t it?” the old man laughed, “I’ve got a soft spot for young love!” He clenched his uninjured hand over the handle of his hammer, with he had crossed over his heart in an oddly bubbly joy. “Oh that just takes me back to when I was in school. You’re lucky you’re learning this trade now! I didn’t have this back then.” He placed the hammer onto the nearby anvil with a light clang.

“Wait what?” Johnny’s tanned face ran a deep red almost instantly, “It’s not-“ his mind suddenly began to race. Could it be a confession gif- No this isn’t a crush. We’re just friends. This wasn’t what it looks like. I can’t be… This cannot be. It can’t possibly work. She’s a good person, and I’m… not… “It’s not like tha-“ he managed to blurt.

The smith laughed and slapped Johnny on the back with a calloused hand, “No need to be modest, Jay-shounen. Here, we’ll work with some easy material. You’ll have your gift, I promise you!”

What’s a shounen? He never got to ask that question, as he was quickly ushered to get into a spare apron and gloves, and he was now watching intently as the old smith heated up a piece of round-stock in the forge, and handed the steel- heated to a glowing yellow at the very end- to the foreigner. The smith pointed to a large machine with set about a foot above a pedestal. “Flat,” the old man spoke clearly.

Johnny took a couple of seconds to figure out what was being said. He placed the yellow-hot round-stock onto the pedestal. The old man pointed at a bar near the floor, which reminded Johnny of the large round sinks at a stadium. He pressed his foot down, which lowered the bar like a lever. The huge block above the round-stock began to slam repeatedly. It only took the first strike for Johnny to flinch.

The old man laughed, “Don’t mind!” he said, “You alright?”

“I-I’ll get used to it,” Johnny grinned as the shock wore off. He pressed his foot back down, and the hammer continued to pound the end section of the round stock into a flat slab.

Once a flat section was formed, Johnny was handed a very dull “blade” at the end of a long handle. “Hot-cut”, the old man said slowly. Johnny carefully placed the “blade” over the flat section, and let the power hammer slam the blade through the still-hot slab of steel.

Soon enough, there was a small bar separated from the round-stock. The old man took the hot cut tool and rest of the round-stock away. In exchange, he handed Johnny a pair of tongs. The old man pointed to the forge, the power hammer, and a small anvil with a hammer set next to it before leaving to put the excess material and tool away.

Johnny picked up the tiny bar- still hot- with the tongs. He noted that he could stretch it out, and began drawing out the small bar with the power hammer. Eventually, he had a long, thin bar that seemed an appropriate thickness for a woman’s bracelet. With another heat, and under instruction from the smith, Johnny used the tongs and hammer to forge a point on both ends of the bar. He recalled a certain gift he had given a long time ago… a particularly cool design he had seen in a store. Several allowances went into buying that piece for… huh… he did buy a good gift… Once upon a ti-

No… FOCUS! Johnny snapped out of his glazed look. He was in a dangerous workshop with fire and extreme heat everywhere. He had to make this work, for the sake of a friend. A friend!

With a pair of wrenches, Johnny twisted a yellow-hot bar around and around to produce a spiral shape throughout the middle section of the bracelet. His muscles flexed as he took care not to twist too hard and risk ruining the piece. By the time the piece cooled he had a decently spiralled bar of metal, similar to some fencing designs. Since the material was evenly heated, the twist turned out quite well.

Another heat later, and Johnny began carefully hammering the point on one end into a smooth curled end. There were some bumps and soft spikes, but those would be cleaned off later. As soon as Johnny finished driving the sharp points into even curls, the old man returned and examined the foreigner’s handiwork. “Decent,” the man smirked, “Lucky I did the hard stuff for you, though.”

“Thank you, this thing’s really cool. It’s got a chill quality to it,” Johnny said with a bow.

“Chill?” the smith rose an eyebrow, “Must be an American thing, this chill.”

“Yes.” Johnny replied with a quick nod.

“You know what to do now?” the smith asked.

“Just gotta make it a bracelet,” Johnny grinned as he picked up the twisted bar and started heating it up one more time. With a wooden hammer and tongs, he carefully curved the length of the bar into a curling bracelet shape. He used the horn of the anvil in order to help define the shape.

“Good,” the smith complemented flatly, “Not too hard. You’re big, bracelets are tiny.”

Johnny figured that he needed to lighten his strikes, or else risk ruining the twisted pattern he had spent the better part of a few minutes twisting out. He softly tapped the bracelet ends to slowly bend the piece close to a circular shape, then an oval-like shape, one that would fit comfortably, yet not too loosely around a wrist.

Once the foreigner finished and the piece had cooled down, the smith examined the bracelet. After a few seconds examination, the smith nodded silently and beckoned the foreigner to follow. “Polish,” the old man said as he handed Johnny the currently muddy-looking bracelet, but Johnny did not understand.

“Beg pardon?” Johnny asked.

“Polish,” The man said as they paused in the middle of the shop, “You don’t know polish?”

“I don’t know that word, man.” Johnny shrugged.

The smith beckoned once more, “Bring it with you.”

The smith brought Johnny to a belt sander next to a series of wheels. One was covered in long wires, and another appeared to be made of thick wool. On the side of the wheel, a sticker labeled it as “SCOTCH-BRITE” under Japanese text.

“Polish…” Johnny repeated the word in Japanese, before he slowly pushed the bracelet toward the wire wheel. “Oh!” Something in Johnny’s mind clicked as he saw that the wheel had knocked off a section of scale buildup on the surface of the steel. “Yooo!” Johnny continued the polishing process. The texture of the steel began to pop out within the smooth, bright finish. “Polish! That’s a new word for me.”

“You learn quickly for a gaijin.”

“What’s a ‘gaijin’?” Johnny asked. Now his suspicions from earlier have been turned on their heads. If the friendly smith used it, maybe it was not an insult, but instead just a term with a particular definition. Or did it have some sort of stigma? You learn quickly… for a gaijin… I wish Gen-chan were here…

The old man laughed when Johnny had asked the question, but otherwise had failed to answer because a client had just walked in. The client and the smith spoke to each other so fast that Johnny had difficulty catching up to the conversation. It really made him realise just how far he had to go in order to be fluent with this tough language.

Instead of a futile attempt to listen in, Johnny eyed the finished work up close. it was not quite fully polished yet. The foreigner took it back to the polishing wheel and smoothed out the faces further. The steel he had used was not exactly difficult to work with, and it produced a fine bracelet nonetheless. He was quite happy with it. However, it needed something more.

The foreigner didn’t have enough time today to add that something more, however. There was much else that needed to get done. When the steel work was all said and done, the smith was only mildly impressed. “You have good vision and control over your muscles. You just need technique and knowledge. I will teach you temperature so you will do this yourself next time.”

Johnny bowed his head, “Thank you, sensei.” The rest of his time at the smith’s involved more heavy labour. The foreigner assisted the other apprentices by carrying the heavier hammer and following their strikes. Throughout, he practiced conversation with the other smiths- though the most they spoke of was simple instructions to improve Johnny’s performance. They seemed to like the foreigner well enough. At least, they didn’t seem to dislike him.

When it came time for a break, Jay was drenched in sweat. His arms felt like a tangle of wet noodles on the inside, but the muscles felt as hard as the steel he had constantly worked with. His shoulder muscles in particular seemed even bigger by comparison.

“Back to work!” The Smith called. Jay was about to get up when he heard that memorable chuckle. “That was a joke, Jay-shounen. How do you like the work so far?”

“Pretty tough,” Jay smirked, “Nothing I can’t handle.”

“You learn quickly,” The Smith repeated, “It’s a good trait to have.”

“Yeah,” Jay massaged his arms gently. As his break went on, he thought about Kazuki, and how his presence and actions felt incredibly odd to him. He felt something was wrong, but he couldn’t place where it was. ”There’s this friend at school, I feel like something was wrong with him.”

“You try to talk to him about it?” The Smith's smile vanished immediately as he assumed a visage of professional concern.

“Not yet, but he’s… he’s more the kind of guy who lives by his rules.”

The Smith smiled and hummed thoughtfully. “Have patience, Jay-Shounen. You can’t force change on people." The Smith leaned back in his chair, which groaned under the more stocky man's weight. "When we let things convey onto us, that is true artistic expression. When we convey ourselves onto things, that is delusion.”

Johnny paused as he managed to decipher what was said. He then hummed in understanding, “So how does that… translate to hammering metal?”

“Your strikes are at the mercy of the metal. The metal is not at your mercy.”

“I see,” Johnny nodded as his eyes wandered to the bracelet- currently incomplete, but very very close, as it sat on an empty spot of workbench.

“Was your mind in the forge as well?” The Smith asked, noting Jay’s distant stare, as well as the subject of the stare.

“Maybe…” Johnny replied, “I let things convey onto me… And this applies to music?“

“It applies to all art. The word Americans use is inspiration.”

Inspiration… passion… Johnny remembered that as he got into the swing of things, his mind left him behind, and his body worked on autopilot. No memories, no quizzes, nothing crossed his mind as he had worked. There was only the heat of the forge, and the brilliant yellows and oranges of sparks and glowing steel. Can I take inspiration from that? Is that respectful? “Can… Can the dead convey onto me?” Johnny turned to meet the Smith’s face.

The Smith glanced at Johnny for a short, silent moment. “I think the dead convey onto us the most,” The smith replied very naturally, though Johnny caught a flicker of sadness in his teacher’s eyes. “That is history.”

Work was soon done, and the others left for home. Johnny and the Smith remained to finish going over the employment papers. Since the foreigner was used to being self-sufficient due to the lack of present parents, he had his information with him. They got through the initial paperwork within half an hour.

“I’ll see you next week- or sooner if you feel like it,” the Smith called to Johnny as he left.

“I’m coming back tomorrow to finish the bracelet! Thank you!” Johnny returned as he left. He slipped the bracelet into his pocket, since it was too small for his thick muscular wrist. Tomorrow, once he added the finishing touches, his next step was to obtain a small box with which to hold the gift. This was easily found at a dollar store… or at least, the Japanese equivalent of one.

In the meantime, it was getting late. The foreigner, feeling quite happy with his first ever smithing project, returned home. His muscles ached, but not unpleasantly. To the foreigner, the aching was a mark of him surpassing his limits. With his parents still out of town, Johnny arrived home at the crack of dusk, and fell immediately to sleep as his head met the pillow.

"...Ridiculous" That one word echoed inside Kazuki's head like an annoying siren. His expression did not reflect the state of his mind, but he was no master in concealing emotions like others. That is why his eyes reflected a cold stillness. But, it was for a brief moment that one could interpret it as a trick of the eye. He never had the need to hide his emotions or was it his nature to do so until now. He stood on his feet with an unorthodox smoothness. His gaze hidden behind his bangs, so there was a sense of foreboding tension. It was so palpable that no one around dared to speak. No one wanted to break that vein.

Furthermore, it was really bizarre for the Hellion to standstill like that. After all, Kazuki is someone who is impetuous, unstoppable and always on the run. He was a free-spirit that never allows himself to be tied down by anything. So, to see him like this is something really out of the ordinary.

"...Just stop." It muddled Kazuki's head like a hand causing waves in a basin of water. This is a condition that he had always avoided, letting his mind anchor him down. That is why he runs away to his life filled with distractions, momentary allure, and whimsical fantasies. He never wants to hear the voices, just the endless noises. That is all he needs in his existence. Like so, he is holding tightly on his crumbling paper shield. As if to reflect that, his hands that were placed inside his pants' pockets were made into fists as he clenched them with intensity. It is a good thing they were not seen by anyone. One might translate that as him getting angry because of the current situation. But, that is not how it is.

Image"Useless idiot..." The words addressed to Kazuki did not reach him as he moved like a robot. His eyes settling on Gen's escaping form. There was an overlapping form that made those golden eyes of his lost its hypnotizing sheen. A vision of a young child running away slowly changing into that of a teenager, then into a familiar long brown hair figure, and then two familiar individuals, never once did they looked back at him. The hazy images blurred into that of a blue hair and a crystal shimmer which illuminated his eyes again. He did not bother with anyone else as he sprinted away as if he had been electrified to finally start his engine.

Without considering anything else, Kazuki made a dash. His speed was unsurprising for anyone at Airdalen. After all, he never been outrun judging by how he always runs or escapes his captors who are left frustrated. That is why he should not have any troubles catching up to anyone if he wishes it. Just like so, he run. But, that was not really the problem. It is when he catches up would he reach out and grab hold even to a fabric or a tendril. He always been unable to take the last step. Then, he managed to spot the blue hair rounding by the corner. He followed and effectively stopped upon seeing that blue-haired form slumped on the pavement.

"What are you doing." That is indeed a question that shocked through Kazuki's entirety. He was acting completely out of his element, his character. He does not even understand why he was doing what he is doing now. Normally, he would not even spare this any attention. He is not ignorant when it comes to affection from the opposite gender. He had been around such motions that it was easy for him to detect it and play on it. So, he is also aware that this blue-haired girl, his fellow senior, Gen has such affection towards him. He would not even deny that he at times took advantage of it for his own devices. But, he never went out of his way to keep her on a hook. He did not want to implant false impressions on her. He was not that cruel especially towards her who genuinely cared for him. That is why he did not interact or acted coy with her.

Image"Stupid." Slowly, Kazuki walked around Gen and then stood before her for a good minute. People who were passing by even murmured that it must have been a squabble and he was the bad guy for making a girl cry. He did not flinch or mind it even one bit. He had always been used to the judgment of others and something like that does not even graze him. "Gen." In truth, he really was not sure why he is doing this. There were far more capable people. There were far better people than him. He would not have the illusion that he has the best solution in a situation like this. "You will be fine." He then lowered himself in front of her. He scratched the back of his head. He really has no idea what to do, but in the end, he had accepted the fact that Gen has grown on him for whatever reason it is.

"You can push me away or punch me whatever." Kazuki has never been the kind to think on things and he really did not want to do so. He believed that it was not in his nature to think on anything he does. And so, he decided to just bury all of his doubts and questions deep within. "I'll accept it." So, he just acted on his impulse, on his instincts. He grabbed Gen's wrist and then pulled her towards him. There he enveloped her in his arms, secured her with such care.

Kazuki even made sure that their position and angle would effectively hide Gen's face from prying eyes. He even glared and snarled at others who were merely curious. "Just let it out until nothing is left. Until then..." His eyes narrowed but not out of spite, but of an undetermined pain and a memory that echoed deep inside. "I will be with you." He tightened his embrace, but he still made sure that it would not make her physically uncomfortable. Actually if she pushed him away. That would be the end of it. Maybe, he would finally waken from this stupor that he unknowingly placed himself in. But, if he did not. He should be fine... He should be. He always has to be fine... Because what else does he really have at this point... There it was again the useless thoughts gripping onto him. "I'm so sorry, so sorry...Gen."

Tadashi's focus was to give his dear friend Gen some space for faculty to arrive and took care of things, or that's at least what he hoped would happen. It appeared that no one was injured to include Gen but it also seemed that no one in the center was calming things down. "Everyone please allow the people some space. No one is hurt, thank you for your concern. We can-" In a flash Gen bolted past him running as fast as she could giving Tadashi a shock. Both eyes almost eclipsed into opposite colors as she (Gen) left school grounds and ran further. A second blur rushed over which he recognized as Kazuki. "Tch." He wouldn't allow this to proceed. Tadashi departed himself at a much slower pace to follow the two (Gen & Kazuki), mostly to not cause any more attention towards Gen. He was only thinking about her in this moment, he knew all too well what she could possibly be feeling. <Kazuki you reckless idiot...>

Image

When he made his approach, Kazuki literally snarled at him but it didn't halt Tadashi's progress. "Down boy." With eyes of pure crimson he walked over but stopped within a meter of the two (Kazuki & Gen) glaring powerfully with his wicked eyes at Kazuki. He'd glance to Gen, unfortunately unable to shake the intense look on his face which he would apologize for later. "Kazuki, you need to release Gen at once." He'd interrupt in the last few muttered words the 'Hellion' was saying to his friend Gen, calling the boy by first name only. He wasn't completely blind though, it appeared that Kazuki had become more than hypersexualized narcissism wrapped in a bad rebellious attitude. It was both interesting and elating to see this, but ended in a sour note having realized that his former bully was more than what he had previously thought of him not 19 minutes ago. He'd stand unwavering, keeping keenly aware as to not crowd Gen in her delicate state. He'd been there before. In the throws of anxiety and fear, seemingly on an edge that you can't see your way down from. No amount of people wanting to love for you or help would be able to do anything until you were able to come back down from this ledge and LET them help you. It was already evident from earlier, Gen ran for a reason and Kazuki running after her (Gen) wasn't being heroic in this instance. He could very well make things worse and Tadashi was going to be selfish and stop him (Kazuki). "You're not helping. You're being reckless and selfish like you always are, let her go." With the inflection in his voice, Tadashi's conviction was palpable even from a distance. He was able to carry his voice to strike at Kazuki almost like a weapon.

He'd take a breath, constantly stirring his frustration at this one person to be productive yet also effective at what he wanted. Wasting energy on Kazuki was a losing matter. "If you actually cared you'd know better- Kazuki. Some things are better left alone, but you never did know how to put things down did you?" Now his past was beginning to flow out of him. Every time he stated the 'Hellion's' name, it was a hiss of acid that shot from his lips. Those years of torment, getting by because of his uncle and abandon for anything that didn't benefit anyone but himself (Kazuki). His fists were beginning to clench now, but beyond this he knew enough to keep his composure. "Not everything is so simple and people won't just come to you when you suddenly give them attention. Kazuki- leave her alone."

His heart was beating quickly, his brain pulsed in rhythm as he processed the situation rapidly. Tadashi didn't know anything about Gen's feelings, but all he knew was that he didn't want her to be in pain. Gen ran from Kazuki, Johnny and even himself for a reason, he's going to respect that. But he'd be damned if Kazuki make it worse. He would be there and he wasn't going to back down. His fists clenched tighter as his eyes narrowed even worse so towards Kazuki. Emotions from years ago now finding new life as a form of expression. Everyone loves a bad boy, Kazuki was almost the poster child of them. It didn't matter what he (Kazuki) did, he got what he wanted and left a mess in a mile wide wake wherever he ventured and at Tadashi's personal expense. It was easier and cooler to just take his (Kazuki's) side, without considering how everyone else being affected helped. But there was one difference now, from back then. He wasn't afraid any more. Wasn't afraid of Kazuki, the boy was just that- a boy that had grown into a mess.

"You've done enough... Let her be." In the end, Tadashi relented knowing that even he needed to hold to his own words. He'd hold his ground and now finally look to Gen, his expression softening for a moment of great concern. He was worried about her and was doing his best, which required restraining himself which was always difficult. But it was worth it, even if it made him the bad guy. The one to dare to step in front of the 'Hellion' of Airdalen. Was it fated to happen in the first place?

While it was a little presumptuous, Tsukiko didn’t suspect Chase would say no. She had to stress to herself that he could possibly have other plans. It wasn't something she was used to where the tall blond male was concerned, but it seemed that many things had changed and besides, running into each other this time was completely by accident, like a strange twist of fate. Miyuki often preached to Tsukiko to never assume anything, but she was hoping that Chase would accept her offer nonetheless. While she could rely on Miyuki to keep her safe at the party if she REALLY needed someone, she did not wish to do so if it was avoidable. While he wasn’t entirely a buzzkill, he always ended up acting like one whenever her wellbeing was concerned.

”How can I refuse?”

Eh? The way he smirked at her offer and accepted the invite made her blush, one of the few times she had ever in Chase’s presence. Tsukiko felt the familiar warmth rush through her, unaware that her cheeks were flushed. Her lips curled up, a huge smile capturing her features. It wasn't the kind of smile she practiced for photos, the Duchenne marker noticeable, something that was not present in her photos as Mae Seung Jin. It was impossible to stop it though. She wasn't conservative like her parents or the rest of the Kitogawa family, far from it. While Korean’s and the Japanese were not typically open to expressing emotion in excess, her time in other countries had molded her into a bold young woman and a liberal. As Chase seemed to pause before fully sliding into the car, Tsukiko tilted her head as she looked up at him, baffled by his half-in and half-out position.

”I promise as your honored plus one, we'll have the time of our lives tonight.”

For a moment Tsukiko was shaken by his sincerity, her already flushed cheeks further darkening, but shook it off. It had simply been too long. Nearly two years... a lot had changed and she couldn't help seeing him a bit differently. He had grown in a lot of ways, and while he was still recognizable as the boy she spent every moment she could with when they wound up in the same cities, it was impossible to ignore how he had grown up. As he called someone, Tsukiko brushed a hand through her hair. Leaving it down meant she had to fuss with it more to keep it presentable.

”Oh Anzu, gomen ne. I am spending time with a good friend so I will not require travel arrangements today. Please take care of the house in my absence. Arigatou. I will see you tomorrow.”

ImageAvoiding listening in was unavoidable as they were next to each other. He doesn't plan to go home? Does that mean he wanted to stay the night with me at Miyuki’s place or... does he have plans with someone else later? It was difficult to contain her jealousy that was daring to flare up at the thought, even though they had never been romantic with one another, she didn't like to share. As childish and illogical as it was, Tsukiko was like a stubborn child refusing to share her toys. If he wanted to stay, she'd definitely open her home to him. While they had stayed with one another when they were younger the prospect of doing so now made her a bit nervous as memories of her most recent tryst with one Miyamoto, Kazuki. While she knew nothing would happen between herself and her dear friend, it was impossible to see him as just the young boy she remembered. Even as she felt herself grow a bit nervous, Tsukiko refused to turn him away. He was her only cherished friend, however, so Tsukiko shoved her thoughts into a little box and refused to acknowledge them any further. Humoring it would only breathe life into what she was feeling and she was certain it was not something she should explore. They were friends. He was the only one she had, she was just confused, it would fade after she adjusted to all of the changes. ...It has to...

”Everything has been taken care of on my end.”

It took Tsukiko a moment to adjust as she settled her gaze back on her best friend. His eyes had always been her favorite feature of the Hawaiian. Blue. It was not a color she often saw in Korea, at least where eyes were concerned. Brown, like her own, was the norm, “Lovely, I’ve always enjoyed having you all to myself.” Tsukiko laughed, only half joking. The pinkette was a very possessive person, whenever she had company of the male variety she truly wanted their undivided attention as much as possible.

”Tell me, what have I missed?”

Upon feeling their shoulders come into contact, Tsukiko’s eyes widened just a bit. She wasn’t too surprised though as Chase often stayed close during a conversation, “Well... I began a music career, I am working on my second album, the first outside of Korea and this time in Japanese as I moved to Japan. I made Miyuki-sama agree to let me stay a year so my studies are not affected.” Tsukiko explained before blinking a few times rapidly, realizing that she’d rambled on quite a bit. Her hand then fell to his knee, giving it a soft squeeze despite the racing of her heart. It wasn’t the first time she’d done this, they were so close in their younger years and neither of them were afraid of affection, “Gomen ne~ I didn’t mean to make it all about me. How have you been, Aein? [Korean for: Sweetheart, couple, lover]” Tsukiko asked, turning the conversation to him. This was something she often did after the loss of Mikoto, talking about herself was not something Tsukiko particularly enjoyed, but she humored Chase a bit more than others. He knew her story about her dead ex-boyfriend. One time a younger, inadvisably drunk Tsukiko had confessed everything she was denying sober, every detail she denied.

Due to their conversation, Tsukiko didn’t even note that they were in motion, and meanwhile, Miyuki drowning the teens out as best he could despite his protective nature where Tsukiko was involved. While he wasn’t especially fond of ANY male that came close to the K-pop idol in his charge. He was expected to take care of her in this country that was so foreign to her. She hadn’t been to Japan in many years, but it was Miyuki’s home. He’d lived there a majority of his life. As her, manager it was natural to want to protect her but he also watched her grow. He found her when she was quite young, molded her into the young lady she had become, he couldn’t help seeing her as his own daughter. He couldn’t toss aside his instinct to protect her.

As they made it to a shopping center, Miyuki sighed, handing each of them a beanie cap and sunglasses, “In and out, understood? Don’t dawdle. As both of you are aware pictures are quite damning. Please exercise caution for both of your reputations, but Mae Seung Jin, unfortunately, has much more to lose as a woman.” The dark haired man sighed, obviously frustrated by the double standards and high expectations of idols in Asian culture. It wasn’t fair but it was a cruel reality nonetheless.

THIS. WAS. THE. WORST. Kimiko, on the other hand, was having an absolute blast talking to Fuyuki. "Oh, Fuyuki it is then dear~! Hahahah, Bishop, she is simply precious, why didn't you bring her home sooner!?" The boy froze up being put on the spot by his mother. Before he could reply Kimiko went back to discussing with Fuyuki completely interested in the new girl her son was bringing home. "Fuyu-chan, it's no trouble at all. We love having guests over and my mother and sister would simply ADORE you- hahaha~! You have nothing to concern yourself with when it comes to meeting the family." Kimiko would give Fuyuki a cheeky wink and sped onward making their way through the city. Bishop was mostly silent, not wanting to give either woman any ammo to shoot him with in the future- or at all really.

"Yes, Bishop is my only son. That's what makes my golden boy mhm! And he takes so much after his father~! Such a man, I knew it when I saw him. I simply HAD to have him! So romantic, a gentlemen and charming, but hard in all the right places. He looked so good in his Navy uniform I almost died when he approached me!" Kimiko's eyes were ablaze like fire when describing her loving husband, the man of her dreams she didn't even know she wanted. She was giggling like a school girl "Oh my god, mom- please-" "Ah-ah!! Japanese Bishop!" The woman quickly corrected her son who groaned and rested his head against the seat cushion behind him. When Fuyuki complimented Bishop's athleticism he blushed deeply. "Oh yes!! Bishop scored in the top 50 in an international swim meet before coming to Airdalen. That's how he got his scholarship! We have him trained in all kinds of sports and martial arts. When are you going to join your mother in Kenjutsu~?" Being put on the spot, Bishop perked up nervously. "Ah, s-soon. Maybe, after I get my black belt?" That answer seemed to satisfy his mother.

"Oh, your brother is JSDF? Well perhaps, my husband is awful busy being a team leader. Perhaps! Bishop, honey don't let me forget!" "H-Hai..." The drive got quiet for a moment with Fuyuki exclaiming her thanks to Bishop for what he did for her. But it was a little confusing because he didn't perceive himself as having done much of anything for his senior partner Fuyuki "Thank you, Bishop-kun." He got lost for a moment, looking into his senior's eyes. "Ah I-It's fine, always happy to help." He smiled a bit nervously back not used to this sort of attention. Kimiko would remember this.

More than a dozen minutes would pass when they finally arrived at his grandmother's home. An old house built near the edge of town on a small plot of property. From the exterior, it was easy for a keen eye to notice where there had been renovations done in order to modernize. The front of the home held a walled courtyard with a marker denoting the family name 'Sazawe' at the gateless opening, his mother would park as two men left the courtyard holding tools and supplies in their hands. "Please excuse them Fuyu, my mother is having the house repainted in the back. Our family has owned his home for generations and was rebuilt after World War 2. We love this home too much to abandon it." Bishop had a slight shiver when he walked into the threshold of the old home and looked around at the complex as they walked in. He already was the thinking of the chores he would be forced to do when he got in.

The family would greet each other graciously as well as their honored guest Fuyuki. With introductions complete, Bishop was charged with escorting his senior (Fuyuki) around the ground to show her the home and tell of the history, it was a walking speech that he had been instructed to master and memorize since he was a young boy. It was a way to honor his family heritage and pay homage to all that his ancestors had done before him. He told Fuyuki about every piece she had questions about, how that 46 percent of the home was salvaged from world war 2 after the city was bombed, the region of where the wood for the structure came from, and which ancestor built the house or part of the house. In the back was an expanse of dirt plots, half as a well-manicured sand and bonsai garden next two what appeared to be training pits. To the side were shinai neatly placed upon a rack. Bishop escorted her to a small building near the back of the complex, his demeanor would noticeably change as they approached. ”This is the hall of our ancestors.” In a more solemn mood now, Bishop removed his school jacket, tie and shoes and opened the first sliding door. Inside was a simple plain room where she (Fuyuki) was let inside and ushered to a small table of containing incense and charms. Different ones for blessings of courage, luck, strength, love, fertility, success and more. Well over a dozen. ”These are the charms left behind by my ancestors which they carried in life. It’s a family tradition that on their 18th birthday they choose a charm that a previous ancestor held and carry it with them through life. When they pass, the charm is placed in here. You can pick one to carry around the hall if you like.” Fuyuki would notice there were multiple of several, most; if not all were ancient, even more so than the home. But they were well polished and kept neatly. Bishop grabbed a charm for strength, lit a stick of incense and turned to the other door.

Inside this room was a presence that could be felt once the door was opened. A wide room, smelling of old wood, fabrics, and faint incense permeated the air. At the far end of the room was a perfectly displayed and kept ensemble of samurai armor. In total, there were 4 sets of armor, each accompanied by swords, fans, charms and more. Bishop would escort Fuyuki to each piece of armor and introduce her as if she were meeting a living relative. The armor had been passed down from generation to generation, starting from the Ashikaga Shogunate where his family became renowned in fighting off the invading Yuan-Dynasty, all the way until the very end with the Tokugawa Shogunate. His family, despite having lost property and privilege within their former Daimyo had conscripted all their sons to be defenders of the emperor and serve in the new Japanese military. Bishop escorted Fuyuki to the final stand, where an old Japanese officer’s uniform was displayed with his ancestral sword held without a trace of dust. ”This is great-grandfather Kaido Sazawe, Captain in the Japanese Imperial Army. He passed away after the war and was the last son of the family to serve the Imperial family.” By that statement, it would be clear that there was a weight on Bishop’s shoulders. Almost an expectation, given his family’s long tracked history or warrior culture and prowess.

Despite the domineering presence of warriors, it would be noted that in every tapestry and the one photo of his great grandfather and grandmother. The wife was always in the image, sitting together with the husband at equal height. She would be holding the sword of the husband with expressions of zen on their faces. It was different than what one would expect given the gravity of the room. Some insight into his family lineage. Bishop would escort Fuyuki outside the hall after appropriately relighting some incense, and giving respect to every family member. Bishop did this wholeheartedly, deep in his spirit he wanted to achieve the same level of greatness his ancestors had. When he left, the two would return just in time for dinner where much discussion would be had. And much to everyone’s surprise, Fuyuki was invited to stay the night when it was realized it was rather late at night. Fuyuki would learn from his mother, aunt, and grandmother that they all very much kept the tradition of martial prowess alive. Musubi was an Olympian Judo practitioner and master instructor, his mother was a former champion of kendo and practitioner of traditional Kenjutsu and Tameshigiri, with the grandmother having knowledge in smithing and Kyudo. In the words of grandmother Seito; ”The Sazawe line is rife with warrior’s blood! Hahaha!” She was a proud woman of her family.

The night would end with Fuyuki being given a change of a comfortable kimono to sleep in, which unfortunately would be a little loose in the chest area and a room to sleep in. Bishop had his room to sleep and was in charge of seeing that Fuyuki had everything she needed. His grandmother became keen when the girl (Fuyuki) introduced herself as a member of the Imperial family. At least for the time being, Fuyuki would become Bishop’s responsibility until she left the next day! It was the way of the family and his grandmother would not accept ‘no’.

"Did you know what your name means?"

Kazuki did not deign it worthwhile or gave the effort to spare his eyes on the person who called him. As a result, he does not know who it was or even aware of how he is being looked at by Tadashi. Truth be told, his vision is rather restricted to the girl in his arms. So, the faces around if he even looked would just be faceless. This also translated to the spoken words. They were literally being said to the air. Then again, it should not be surprising when it comes to him. He had lived his life at his own behest and leisure. Lectures and sagely advises had only been realized as something to wipe his ass with in a figurative manner. There are the occasional times words would struck him in a not so superficial manner. But, that depends on the person speaking. It means something if it was a person that has meaning to him.

Image"One Tree? Silly! You should study kanji better."

Yet like air, they might not be comprehended, but there are the subtle touches once in a while. Kazuki could grasp that they were addressed to him. His name was called a couple of times. If he was not enamored with his situation, he would have slipped a comment about him being liked so much by this person. However if this person knew him, it should be known that he cared for no one else's words but of a chosen few. If that person is not even in that range, he would not even process it or even take note of anything. That is why the words in between, they were honestly lost to him. It was not out of spite, but he cannot be bothered by words of a meaningless person when he has an individual with incomparable value in his arms at the moment. In the end, he had always been a single-minded person especially when he is in a situation that he somewhat willingly dove in.

"It's harmonious hope. Your parents believe you would be a source of this. They really think the world of you."

Additionally, there was a prevailing voice inside Kazuki's head which made every other sound nothing more but silence. In response, his hold tightened a bit around Gen. It could be seen as opposing what was Tadashi said outwardly. But, it could also be seen as adding security to the girl in his embrace. It is something of a double-meaning action. When in the deeper sense of truth, it was his instinctive need to hold on to that voice and since she is in his arms, just like a pillow, he seek her comfort. Even when in reality, they are most likely the two people who are the farthest to each other. After all, it would have been better if they had just remained distant and let any bubbling emotions whether positive or negative just evaporate. That way, they could be just like before... But, life has always been unpredictable and true to that, he is as well even to himself.

Image"This is... I have to go. You've done enough."

There it was the rare point of words that entered Kazuki's core. The voice in his head coincided with that background noise. It was the only sentence that earned his attention. Slowly, those golden gazes were revealed behind its veil. This time, it was certainly looking at Tadashi, the person deemed inconsequential. His eyes did not deliver a glare or an inquisitive look. There was not even a hint of his devilish humor. All that can be seen in his gaze is that of indomitable coldness and that still darkness which even scares the gods.

"Who. The. Fuck. Are. You."

Those words spilled from Kazuki's lips in a low, slow, yet clear tone. It carried that inviolate tone and a domineering presence surrounded him, like that of an Emperor. His features frozen like carved out of solid ice yet looked perfect from all angles even as it chilled his observers to the bone. He was a sleeping sovereign that had been probed by an idiot to wake. Doing that, it would be a frightening consequence that even the demons and divine would cover their eyes.

Kazuki's hold around Gen loosened, but he still hold her protectively. It could be compared to a child clinging to the most precious thing. While his eyes never released Tadashi from his sight. In truth, he considered Tadashi as a complete stranger even if they were assignment partners earlier or the fact Fuyuki introduced the guy as a good friend of hers. This was due to the mental haze he is under at the moment. His meager wall deep within was taking a heavy onslaught from the things happening around him. It was trying to make him face it when he does not want to ever again. He is in the state of confusion and the harrowing issues that claw at him in a slow yet vicious manner. Then, there are the emotions flowing out like a gushing spring which made his reality quite distorted at the moment. The overlapping of perception and memories brought him to the demons hidden in the seams.

"Scram."

It carried a deadly weight something unseen and unheard by anyone who had interacted with Kazuki. One would consider a staple threat behind the word. But, it seemed hollow yet full at the same time. It is no secret how he is always in the forefront of fights and brazen insults. That is why his temper is something seen most by people. However, this side of his like that of a creature chained tightly slowly coming undone was never privy to anyone. The only connection in his thoughts is that this guy's words echoed the one in his head. As such, the respond is the rising temper and disapproval. It hit a sore spot that never got to heal even with all the time that passed since then. That is why a wounded beast should not be carelessly interacted with, because at this moment, one more word would make him tear that guy into pieces. In the end, he believed his name should have been better written as a One Tree. Because, he is no hope and no peace.

The only saving grace that kept Kazuki from doing so without fail was Gen who was in his arms. What she does now can determine the path which would be taken by the Hellion whether they all know it or not.

As her tears fell to the ground, her mobile sprung to life after receiving a text message. It was not like her to ignore her phone in case of emergencies but she was unreachable, disconnected from everyone and everything, drowning in a negativity that she had bottled up to hide from the world but was now spilling over, just like the drops from her eyes. It was all in plain sight now that Gen was not the Lorelei, the School Diva or the President of Inryoku.. Such grace and image had left her, exposing the other side of the mirror. Without her cherished voice, she was hollow and worthless. That state of mind gripped her with such intensity, she had run from the people who cared about her... She had never been so selfish, indulging her insecurities over others and their feelings. The girl she knew, aspired to be was better than this but that idealised view of herself carried a voice that was capable of touching even the hardest of hearts. She did not have her greatest asset anymore and her heart was broken of her own accord.

"Gen." That voice was calling her again but the figurative wall was up the moment she broke into a run from the school. Her eyes like rain, just poured heavier. It was not in her control to stop no matter who was looking her way. Embarrassed? No. There was no embarrassment where there was no more pride to defend. "You will be fine." Stop lying.. Her hand resting on the pavement clenched into a small fist. It's not fine. None of this is fine. It will never be fine. She wasn't purely happy, ever. Her own birth was a mistake and as such, so was her existence. She lived the best that she could to give herself a meaning and a purpose but that had been stolen from her. She can fight all she wants for happiness but she can lose it all in the blink of an eye whether she deserves it or not, like her voice. Romanticism.. fate.. happy endings, how pathetic was she to believe in that silly nonsense? She is not the girl in any of those stories. For a while, she could pretend. Dance, act and sing to fool a crowd along with herself the possibility of a fantasy but now, she can't even do that. What remains without the passion, is an ordinary girl crumpled on the ground with no will to move forward.

"You can push me away or punch me whatever." The voice persisted but it wasn't making a dent and she did not have any wish to. She wasn't mad at Kazuki for ignoring someone like her. He had no obligation to give her attention or affection. There are plenty of fish in the sea or so she's heard. Fuyuki is something else, someone else to him. Although she did not know the brunette deeply, it was easy for Gen to see that she was no match for her. He had made that perfectly clear and she was attuned to such affections just at a glance. "I'll accept it." No, I am the one who must accept... Gen sniffled. It was getting hard to breathe but it was still hard to quit sobbing. Emotions can't be killed. But at least.. I'll have this memory, this scrap of a moment I was someone even when it ends.

The barrier that kept people out was forcibly smashed as she was pulled into the same arms she denied before. Her pink-purple eyes opened wide and there were no words even if she did possess the ability to speak. It was very nearly just as shocking as the incident by the school gates with the car. It would be a stretch for anyone to believe that but for Gen, it was or maybe even more. A heart is more fragile than a body. "Just let it out until nothing is left. Until then...I will be with you." Then his arms tightened and she was trapped in warmth again but of another person, a love interest's.. a warmth that filled her with hopelessness. "I'm so sorry, so sorry...Gen."
"Kazuki, you need to release Gen at once." Another voice cut through like a thunderclap. She barely had time to think over Kazuki's apology as one shock followed another. Her tears were still running down her cheeks uncontrollably, temporarily hidden by Kazuki's hold on her that pressed the mess she was against his chest. She no longer had any idea what was going on. The situation was escalating too fast for comfort. "You're not helping. You're being reckless and selfish like you always are, let her go." An angry Tadashi was an anomaly that shook her to the core. Her friend was standing up for something after all those years, standing up for himself and her. "I'm happy because I'm not the same person I used to be and not scared by the same things anymore." Tadashi's answer echoed as his mysterious smile flashed through her mind. He had changed incredibly but Gen on the other hand, I'm still.. scared. All her fears and insecurities had not changed, just amplified.

"If you actually cared you'd know better- Kazuki. Some things are better left alone, but you never did know how to put things down did you?" Gen bit her lip. A personal anger was radiating from him directed to Kazuki. She didn't have to directly look at her friend to tell, she could feel it in her bones. She had her own reasons to be upset at the Hellion but Tadashi's, she was not completely aware of. She was left in the dark about a great deal of what her friend had gone through and as they began planning the move to live together, she was seeing all new sides of his story. For the most part, they had been heartrending. He had endured so much and returned but she did not have that same hope for herself. "Not everything is so simple and people won't just come to you when you suddenly give them attention. Kazuki- leave her alone." Those words hit a bull's-eye but Kazuki didn't release her. Instead, he did the opposite as his embrace brought her closer. Gen for a lack of understanding, took a peek and examined Kazuki's features. If this had occurred under happier circumstances, the proximity was deserving of a blush. Who she beheld was not the Hellion just as she was not the Lorelei and this stranger that she had not seen before, holding her... she did feel bad for him. There was a pain there as their beating hearts in that small space started to sync. "You've done enough... Let her be."

Kazuki stirred to meet eyes with Tadashi. Gen held her breath as her own eyes shifted from one boy to the other rapidly trying to process what happens next. The two did not get along at all during the English assignment but this situation was much worse. The tension in the air was so thick you could cut it with a knife. Kazuki had his arms around her solidly and Tadashi was staring at her with concern and his fists clenched. What do I do? She forgot about herself, caught in the middle of an unexpected standoff between her love interest and close friend. "Who. The. Fuck. Are. You." Kazuki's hug loosened a little but his resolve didn't. He did have a reputation for the stubbornness even when dealing with authority. However, Tadashi's anger scared her all the same because these two boys who came after her and had conflicting mindsets like oil and water.. they were both precious to her. They both cared just in their distinctly separate methods. Stop it! A rush of panic surged through her as she attempted to speak up yet again but no words came out. She was begging for the scene to not extend anymore. She cannot bear the thought of it. "Scram."

Tadashi.. Kazuki... Gen closed her eyes and the tears ceased. With the last ounce of strength, she decided to try again. She was not able to help them make peace in the classroom when she had a voice and the circumstances were drastically different. The squabble was not over a one-time assignment, it was over her and whatever history they shared in the past. It was personal and heavy but she wanted to lift the load. She was the only one present to do it, believe in the heart in the both of them even if one's was more hidden than the other. She couldn't speak so her actions had to do the talking, her hand gently grasping Kazuki's as she stood and encouraged him to his feet. Before she was hesitant to even touch him but at this time, it was as if they had bonded for a long time. Maybe previously she was simply charmed as many girls were by the bad boy senior but for now, he was a dear friend too. She then walked over to Tadashi with Kazuki in tow, closing the distance. Her other hand reached to grasp his as well, unwrapping the fist. Holding a hand each of both of the boys, at the same time, she lifted their hands to wipe a tear from each eye. Tadashi's hand was moved to wipe the tear away from her right eye and Kazuki's hand, the tear away from her left. Afterwards, she lowered their hands and smiled as brightly as she could for them as if she had never cried in the first place. Her cheeks were rose-colored and glowing and her unique eyes as haunting as they were with crucifix shapes, shimmered with faith. Even she did not know if she was happy or faking it till she made it but her message conveyed or not, she wasn't letting either of them go until all is well. That is just where she stands.

“Lovely, I’ve always enjoyed having you all to myself.”

Chase smiled keenly aware of Tsukiko's proclivity for the boys in her life to keep their eyes on her. He did not judge her for it or ever question it. He makes a conscious effort to please people always and especially those he values and holds close to his heart. The redhead also has a clingy tendency of his own that he does not find fault with. It is only natural in his viewpoint to want to secure your spot in the life of a person you cherish. People can drift apart if there is not enough effort to keep the relationship running. Staying connected is a choice, a choice Chase will always say yes to.

“Well... I began a music career, I am working on my second album, the first outside of Korea and this time in Japanese as I moved to Japan. I made Miyuki-sama agree to let me stay a year so my studies are not affected.”

He nodded along listening carefully and patiently. Tsukiko was seated by his side with the deaf ear that relied on a hearing aid and while it was advanced to the point he sometimes forgot he was using one, he did not want to miss the details or make her repeat herself. "That is a huge leap but I'm not surprised. You've always had a beautiful voice and it's time you share it with the world.” There was some singing in their past escapades and he had been following her on social media and checking the news. Chase knew that she had begun a music career but the other half about moving to Japan was new news. He had no clue they might run into each other the way they had but it made for a pleasant surprising reunion.

“Gomen ne~ I didn’t mean to make it all about me. How have you been, Aein?

Tsukiko's hand softly squeezing his knee and calling him affectionately in Korean while not unusual, stirred something in Chase this time around. He blinked twice in succession as his reasoning tried to put the pieces together about the change. He wasn't the brightest but when it comes to people, he is very observant as to adapt to their wants and needs, maintaining a level of comfort, closeness and peace. Concerning his pink-haired friend, she had an undeniably flirtatious nature and he had always known that about her but why was this time any different? He had to ask that of himself. Aein... Chase did not pull away or show any sign of discomfort with respect to her and their past, confident she had done nothing wrong. He couldn't put his finger on that something stirring within him but he wasn't going to neglect her for what he can't make sense of internally. He cast the strange feeling aside and didn't dawdle to return the affection in full.
Chase's hand moved over hers that rested on his knee with a light squeeze also. "It can be all about you, whenever you want, Ku‘uipo. [(Hawaiian) Sweetheart]" He reassured, with blue eyes that stared at her deeply. To assert that statement he answered her question to be polite but kept it minimal. "I have been me and not much else." It was true that his life hadn't been much different from back then. His family was still subjected to gossip and the tabloids and he was still the Hollywood poster child. The only significant change was that he was here in Japan to study to get away from it all, practising a freedom he'd always desired. Chase would then return the main focus onto her with his phone, pressing the screen to direct him to his song list. After finding what he was in search of, he raised the volume and played one of Tsukiko's songs. It was actually one of the tunes that came up when he was on the picnic with Mao. "I must confess this is my favorite song. I'm quite a fan. Do you think I'll be fortunate enough to see such a talented singer perform?" He teased elatedly, holding the phone under his chin so the screen was facing her with clear song title and idol name Mae Seung Jin.

Once the car arrived at its destination, he accepted the sunglasses and beanie cap Miyuki had graciously offered. Chase had never donned a beanie style before but he said nothing of it, wearing it as asked of him. It was a small price to pay for quality time with Tsukiko after the years but he hoped it did not make him appear ridiculous. He couldn't tell without a mirror.

“In and out, understood? Don’t dawdle. As both of you are aware pictures are quite damning. Please exercise caution for both of your reputations, but Mae Seung Jin, unfortunately, has much more to lose as a woman.”

Image“You have my word." Chase declared with conviction before stepping out of the car. He did not take kindly to gossip and there was no way he would allow any harm to come to Tsukiko on his account. The redhead understood very well the anxiety Miyuki expressed and even if he had faulted slightly at their reunion from mere shock, his head and heart was in the right place about the pink-haired girl's security, reputation and future. He offered his hand to assist Tsukiko out of the car as a gentleman would. “Where to Ku‘uipo?" He asked her, still holding onto her hand and lifting his sunglasses quickly to wink at her playfully in their temporary disguises.

Rocco didn't know what he was in for when Kei offered his phone to him but he didn't hesitate. Kei's phone passed hands and Rocco held onto it in both of his, staring at the screen that displayed a photo of two children, a boy and a girl. There was more as he kept swiping through an album while Kei explained.

"I used to have a twin sister named Kaiya." Rocco nodded and remained silent, the boy in the photos resembled Kei and he could easily assume the girl as his twin Kaiya.

"She died several months back and I didn't really take it well. I ditched her to play soccer so I could impress girls. No, so I could spend time with Kao...Himewari-san."

Rocco stopped swiping abruptly, his head turning from the phone screen to his friend who was looking forward at the court. The story was far from what he expected they'd be talking about. What have I gotten myself into? He ran his fingers through his hair, messing it up a bit and stared at the ceiling. He was the last person people should open up to in his opinion about such personal matters but it had happened a few times already with Yuuki and her father, now Kei and his twin sister. Rocco knew he didn't have the guts to be open about himself to anyone in highschool just yet.

"Anyway. I kind of shut myself off from girls. A lot of them are so fragile looking, you know? So when Himewari-san confessed to me after I returned to school I sort of freaked out and poured my drink on her. It ended up on the Internet, so she doesn't forgive me."

Rocco turned his head to look at Kei once more as his relationship with Kaori came to light. He suspected something had happened between his two classmates after the fire evacuation and the hug but man, he didn't know how to take it all in. It was all coming together. Should I laugh or cry or both? he thought. Kaori, the girl afraid of intimate touch used to be bolder with the ability to confess her feelings and Kei, the boy who freaks out used to try to impress girls. Not only that but at some point in time, Kei and Kaori liked each other mutually. RIP bad timing... One incident had changed them, pushed them apart and now he was in the middle of it. He rested his eyes for a few seconds as he tried to process all this new information.

"Now I'm just useless with girls. Totally terrified that they're just going to break somehow."

The brown-haired boy was one of the best candidates for the opposite. He wasn't useless with girls and he was not afraid of breaking them somehow. He didn't have a shred of guilt for his actions with any of the girls he had encountered and so he could not relate to Kei's fear. I wonder if that's why we're friends. There were many that hated him for being the average looking guy getting close to girls who appeared out of his reach but Kei had been nothing short of encouraging like when they mucked around with Yuuki and when he gave Tsukiko's number.

"Wanna go play? I'll keep score."

Not in a rush, he didn't move from his spot and eyed down the court as he thought over his words carefully. He had to say something about Kei's revelation. "You'll hurt them near and you'll hurt them far." Kei may have avoided accepting Kaori's confession but it was apparent they were both hurting around each other and away from each other. Those old wounds were still there. He recalled when he first met Kaori and how scared she was to hold hands. Rocco held out the phone to return it to Kei. "If you ask me, might as well be near where all the action is." As if to reaffirm his words with action, he finally stood up from the bench and hopped over the one in front to get a bit closer to the court. He looked ahead at the girl below them still practising with his hands in his pockets. "Instead of sitting back wondering what you've missed..." he mumbled. "Unlucky." He turned around to glance at Kei over his shoulder. "I would have liked to meet her, Kaiya. Rocco said softly before smiling and starting to walk down the steps to the court. With his back turned, he pulled his right hand out of his pocket and gave a backhanded wave. "I'll stay out of the whole shebang with Kaori." He appreciated knowing the full story but he had no intention to meddle. Whether Kaori forgives Kei, that was up to her just as much as it was up to Kei whether or not he would overcome his fear. Eventually, eventually.

Rocco dusted off his hands as he got on the court. His basketball teammate was dribbling and making a few shots that were nothing out of the ordinary but decent. He smirked, grabbing one of the basketballs that was lying on the ground. He stared at it for some time checking that it was positioned nicely in his hand before approaching her. She wasn't as friendly as some of the other girls he met before. Didn't even tell me her name. He smirked wider. "Hey, not bad." He called out until he was standing before her again with their matched height. Then without looking at the hoop as his eyes stayed solely on her, he extended his arm out with the ball to make a sideways shot. The ball hit the corner of the board and started to roll along the edges of the hoop uncertainly. His brown eyes sharpened with serious focus as the playful spirit left him. "I can't wait to see the rest of you." The ball successfully fell through the hoop as the sound of it hitting the ground echoed eerily along with his ominous words.

It was a relief to the pink-haired pop idol that her manager seemed to be focusing on the road, their surroundings, on virtually anything aside from the two teens in the back seat. It didn't take a scientist to understand that his every instinct as a manager told him to do otherwise. It was literally his job to shove his nose where Tsukiko felt it did not belong. That initiative kept her reputation and her career safe, though it often got in the way of Tsukiko having fun. Grateful to Miyuki for giving them as much privacy as could be afforded to them, Tsukiko remained conscious that there wasn't a lot of space and therefore it would not be very difficult for her manager to overhear their conversation despite his efforts to tune them out. He likely did not even have to strain himself to do so. That alone kept Tsukiko keenly aware of her word choice. She had to behave in his presence, at least a little.

Ever since he officially became her manager Miyuki seemed to always have her best interest at heart, but sometimes he was too good at his job. It was downright smothering. Escaping Miyuki's overwhelming protection led to Tsukiko meeting Chase in the first place, but she'd reminisce on that later. With the real deal still in her sights, Tsukiko wouldn't allow herself to slip away into thoughts of the past so easily.

"That is a huge leap but I'm not surprised. You've always had a beautiful voice and it's time you share it with the world.”

The weight of his words caused a twinge in her chest but Tsukiko hid it as best she could, a smile forming on her lips slowly. She'd written a lot of songs after losing Mikoto, about him, her dreams, anything she was feeling really. It was easier to write it down than to talk to someone. While Tsukiko enjoyed the attention she received as a model, overall, she was content with the fame that brought. The Korean girl's attempt at a singing career was all because of Mikoto. His insistence while he was alive... she wanted to honor his hopes for her in that sense at the very least.

Back when Mikoto and Tsukiko were still dating she would sing along to songs. He had a thing for old-school boomboxes so when they spent time together he would always be playing some kind of music. Often it led to them singing along together. A few times Mikoto would gradually turn down the music so he could hear her voice better. It was a purer time in her life so it embarrassed her quite a bit no matter how many times he complimented her singing.

Now it was Chase praising her voice, "Thank you." Tsukiko responded softly. As he was a very important guy in her life, one of the few lasting connections in her life since the tragic death of her first love, it was equal parts heartbreaking and encouraging. It wasn't until she felt his hand clasp around her own that her gaze returned to meet his. The warmth was reassuring, but her eyes were slightly glossed over. Somehow she managed to reel her emotions back in, not allowing the tears to even make it to her lashes. Instead her smile brightened, "So I've been told." she chimed cheerfully. She'd cried during the evacuation, the mask she wore was not going to break again so soon if she could help it.

"It can be all about you, whenever you want, Ku‘uipo. [(Hawaiian) Sweetheart]"

Although it was heartwarming that they could pick up where things left off so easily despite the time that had passed when he returned her term of endearment with one of his own Tsukiko's voice caught in her throat. Say something, you do this all of the time. It's just Chase. We've playfully flirted a lot, it doesn't mean anything! You're just friends, remember? still, it was hard to have strictly platonic thoughts. To match his thoughtfulness he had grown to be a desirable young man and those blue eyes that had always been easy to get lost in were difficult to gaze into for more than a few seconds. Shaking her head and quietly laughing, Tsukiko voiced her surrender, "Smooth sidestep." it was suave, but he was her friend so she had to maintain an impartial stance to such things, she couldn't allow herself to be overtaken by the current.

"I have been me and not much else."

Quirking a brow at his vague answer Tsukiko battled with herself. Should she press on for more details or not? Out of habit it was tempting, in the past their time together was brief and scattered. There was plenty of time to catch up, but she had to remind herself that she could always return to it later. Now that they were classmates there was no reason to feel a sense of urgency. For once they didn't have to rush. She hoped that if there was anything he wanted to discuss he would bring it up willingly, she did not wish to pressure or coerce him so she abandoned the subject for the time being. At first she was confused that he was toying with his phone but as her song played from his phone Tsukiko's gold eyes widened, finally meeting his for longer than a moment.

"I must confess this is my favorite song. I'm quite a fan. Do you think I'll be fortunate enough to see such a talented singer perform?"

With her composure shattered, she was vulnerable to his words, heat rising to her cheeks indiscriminately. It reminded her of Mikoto always trying to steal chances to listen to her singing, but more than that, she was unnerved by how intense her embarrassment was. It had been quite some time since anyone had embarrassed her to such a degree. The praise, the sly way he went about presenting that it was his favorite song, she wasn't prepared. Is he just teasing me...? it was hard for her to imagine that her song was truly his favorite. The Korean idol was speechless, turning her head until her gaze met the floor of the car as she put together what he was implying. He wanted to see her perform live? It would be simple to get him in for a show. Considering he was also a high profile person she assumed the company she was signed with would have no complaints. It would be bad for business to deny his appearance after all. Once she felt that she wouldn't crumble upon eye contact her eyes locked on him, "If you want to see the artist, I could probably arrange it." Tsukiko decided to play coy to reduce the impact of her actual shy response a moment before. While she was nervous about the fact her friend would be in the audience, she was flattered that he had her song on his phone. She felt fluttering in her chest, but ignored it, refusing to acknowledge it for what it was. Letting it take root would only sprout trouble. It was just another thing she would have to put in the box and lock away. Eventually, it would burn out if she didn't stoke the flame.

Finally they arrived at the mall to Tsukiko's relief. Really? Disguises? Does he really think this will work!? Tsukiko tuned out Miyuki's paranoia, focused on getting away from him for a few minutes and stretching her legs. Putting the beanie over her hair, Tsukiko's features shifted into a pout. This would give her hat hair! The sunglasses were next, hiding the emotions in her eyes, at least that she was grateful for.

“You have my word."

Lips parting to protest that she could get out on her own, Tsukiko reminded herself that it was not how she normally behaved, with any man for that matter. She couldn't retreat simply because a few pesky teenage hormones were threatening their friendship. She blamed the time apart but reassured herself that once they grew accustomed to seeing one another daily the inconvenient feelings would slowly fade. A guy like Chase... a good guy... she couldn't pursue someone like that with reckless abandon like anyone else. It hit too close to home. It was a stinging reminder that she should move on and clinging to her denial was not nearly as painful as admitting Mikoto was dead. I can't make a big deal out of this. she scolded herself before accepting his hand with an appreciative smile.

“Where to Ku‘uipo?"

The wink earned a giggle despite herself and Tsukiko led them on inside "Well we need something to wear, don't we? I assume the host nor PR would appreciate us streaking." Tsukiko responded with her usual playfulness, doing her best to recover. That also meant not shying away from holding his hand even inside amongst the crowd of the mall. As she found a suitable store that sold swimwear she finally released his hand to scan the racks. Little did he know, this was her first time that she was spending money of her own without Miyuki. Tsukiko knew that you had to pay for things with cash or a credit card, but she did not know how those swiping machines worked, Miyuki always handled checking out for her. The reality of the situation was that Tsukiko had been a popular Korean model from childhood. She met Miyuki before she even started middle school. Once she had three or four items she went to the changing room to try them on. She settled on her favorite all her own, preferring to surprise him. Once she was back in her school uniform Tsukiko went out to look for Chase to see if he'd found something he liked, biting her bottom lip. How would she tell him that she didn't know how to use the credit card reader?

Kaori spent quite a bit of time scrolling through forums, pictures on Instagram and Tumblr, anything to give her some sort of idea before she bothered to read Rocco's text. She assumed it would be of little or no consequence to avoid messaging him back right away especially as she was using the time to figure out what in the hell she was going to get him for this event the school tossed their way. However, when she did take a break to respond she was confused by what she saw.

'I haven't gone to one in Japan yet and I wouldn't just like to, I'd love to go with you babe~ ♥♥♥'

What does that even mean? Did he send that to the wrong person? Kaori was midway through typing a message to him letting him know that he sent it to the wrong number before she happened to notice her last message didn't match up to the one she remembered sending. The temperature in the room felt like it dropped a whole ten degrees as Kaori found herself panicking. As her eyes scanned the text sent from her phone, the brunette was horrified. Who did it?! Naomi? Naoki? This isn't funny! She didn't even think to suspect the actual culprit, their guardian Himewari Takuto. It wasn't a common occurrence so it slipped under the radar. Unable to prove who wrote that god awful text, Kaori let out an annoyed huff of defeat, deleting the message she was going to send. She couldn't retract the offer now. Crap, crap, crap. Now I have to play along or it'll look like I'm scared. Just great. I haven't been on a date since... Color drained from her face as she thought about the incident with Kei. No. She couldn't dwell on that. Heading to her room, Kaori swung her bedroom door open and she put her bag away. Her room was very colorful, and everything had its proper place. While she was not organized to a fault, she did enjoy tidiness and preferred order because it meant she knew exactly where everything was. She didn't have to rummage to find things and that was important. Organized also meant clean, and she had become a bit germaphobic over the past year. Kaori changed into casual clothes., putting her uniform away to be sent to the dry cleaners. As money was no issue, she had several spares. Heading out was likely the best course of action. She needed to clear her head and getting away from those vile twins could only brighten her mood. If the YouTube thing wasn't enough, her father had to adopt those brats? They were always up to some sort of mischief, acting out and causing her problems. It was so annoying! Why would her father want someone else's kids anyway?

Without really noticing, Kaori let her feet lead her along. Not paying her surroundings much mind was not wise, but she had so much on her mind that she wasn't thinking of the risk. She just needed to get away from her family and more importantly her phone. For a minute she needed to just leave all her problems behind her. What was it called? Unplugging? Maybe it wasn't such a bad idea after all. The way things were going for her at Airdalen, it couldn't hurt.

As if it wasn't bad enough that through some cruel twist of fate she somehow ended up switching to the same school as Kei, she was now pretending to 'date' someone who appeared to be a friend of his. While she knew he was changing schools as well after the incident how in the world did they choose the same one by pure coincidence? Also, what were the odds that the person that saved her from the pervy senior also knew him? Too many things that were happenstance had happened, giving her connections to people that would only make her transition into this new school that much more difficult. There were so many other things going on that it had her head spinning. It would have been easier if she blended in with the wall, as much as the thought left a bad taste in her mouth. Kaori was not accustomed to being invisible, but ever since the video made its debut on the internet she was wishing for just that.

Before she knew it she had walked so far that her feet began to ache. When she looked around to assess her surroundings she noticed a familiar tuft of ivory hair. Proving it was the exact person she assumed it to be as she grew closer when she saw he was still wearing the Airdalen uniform, Kaori was somewhat relieved to see someone she knew. Still, he was a boy and that made her feel a bit wary of him. At first, she was hesitant to approach, but the soreness of her feet enticed her to join him on the bench, "Kaichou? Is that you?" She asked politely, although she was fairly certain she had the right person. Now that she was in close proximity of the class president, Kaori could tell that he seemed to be in low spirits. In that sense, they were like two peas in a pod. Just like me, huh? Kaori thought, her lips attempting to curl into a smile weakly for a split second.

Lifting her head up from the iced coffee she had been nursing Akira's eyes fell on the form of Kaori. It was startling to see someone from school. Akira really didn't want anyone to see her like this, but she didn't have the energy to make up an excuse to escape. At least it was only the girl she walked to class. They weren't close friends or anything, so it wasn't like she was burdening her too much. Kaori had no reason to care about her problems. The only hitch was that she was the girlfriend of her teammate in Basketball. As Akira was playing the role of a guy, it wasn't really proper to be out with someone else's girlfriend without their knowledge. Several flags went off in her head, but Akira didn't heed any of them, "Oh, hey Himewari-chan." Akira forced a happier expression onto her face. Closing her eyes as her lips formed a big, awkward grin. Once she opened her eyes again she could see the conflicted expression on the other girl's features.

As they both seemed to be having a bad day Akira instinctively put her drink down on the ground and turned to face Kaori, "I'm sorry, but let me be a little forward with you for a minute, Himewari-san. Okay? Our secret." she apologized ahead of time, her voice growing quieter as she spoke, putting her index finger to her lips as the word 'secret' crossed them. Fully aware that they barely knew each other, Akira knew that what she was about to do would likely be ill-received. As far as Kaori was aware, Akira was a boy and that made her pulling Kaori into her arms very controversial, "E-Eh!? K-Kaichou!" Kaori stammered in a high pitched voice, trying to slip out of the class president's embrace but she could feel how desperately he was holding on. The smaller girl eventually relaxed and welcomed the warmth of her classmate's embrace. After having lunch together Kaori knew that Akira was well aware that she 'had a boyfriend' and yet he did this anyway? Was he not worried about trouble with Rocco? The prospect seemed to run off the senior that was harassing her on her first day yet Akira was holding her even after tense exchange they had at lunch?

It was admirable that he was not swayed by others so easily, but that made Kaori also wonder what kind of guy the class president truly was. Was he a nice guy or someone that was simply good at pretending to be one? Judging by his appearance she assumed that he was not entirely Japanese, so perhaps he was not aware that the Japanese were reserved people where affection was concerned? No... he definitely apologized. He knew. So that means he just doesn't care...

Feeling Kaori give in to the hug, Akira was relieved, the slight tension in her muscles relaxing now that she knew a slap was not coming her way. It seemed that this time she was not going to be attacked for an innocent gesture at least. A hug was the only remedy Akira knew to a bad day between strangers. They both had problems but discussing them was unlikely as they did not have an established sense of trust between them... but a hug didn't require either of them to open up too much. After they parted they could pretend it never happened if they wished. There was no information they could dangle over the other's head if anything went south between them, to Akira it was the ideal form of comfort, yet she could tell Kaori was nervous. Was it selfish of me to hug her after all? Akira thought to herself, unsure of her decision. If it only made things worse for her brown-haired classmate she would feel like crap for doing so...

Despite Akira not being Kaori's type in personality or appearance, her heart was beating extremely fast. Boys were becoming so familiar with her lately. Kei, Rocco, now Akira... It was confusing and very troubling, yet from the chaste placement of Akira's arms, she tried to believe that it was not meant as an advance. Perhaps he truly was only trying to help. It was difficult for her to trust a guy's motives, but she was trying to. It was too exhausting being on guard all of the time. She could still remember what it felt like to not be paranoid about what could happen if she let others in. What healthy relationships with others felt like. It was still painfully fresh in her mind, reminding her that Kei had stolen her sense of emotional security and left a broken mess behind.

Growing up in a country where touch like this was more than common, Akira didn't look at hugging that way. She was not a guy, nor was she attracted to girls in a romantic sense. There wasn't a problem for her, but Kaori was in the dark concerning the truth. Once she felt the hug was becoming awkwardly long, Akira released her classmate, "Gomen, Gomen. You just looked so sad." Akira laughed nervously trying to pretend that she was not depressed when Kaori arrived as well. Shoving all of her problems back into a neat little box and cramming it back in the closet, Akira stood, offering Kaori her hand, "Let's go. I want to show you something before I walk you home. It isn't that safe for pretty girls to walk the streets alone. Look at how tiny you are!" She grinned, only a little bit of mischief in her eyes as she slightly teased the other girl. With Kaori's hand in her own, the two walked away from the crowded square. A small voice in the back of Kaori's head told her that being in public holding the class president's hand was not a wise choice, but she let him lead her away from the plaza anyhow despite her better judgment, "I-I can't help being small!" Kaori shot back defensively, tripping over her words in surprise.

Before taking a seat at the tables of the Overachiever's Committee within the library, Sora had the courteous urge to approach the club president, Yuuki to offer apology and explanation. "I'd like to apologize for the late arrival of Browning-san, Kitogawa-san and I, as well as take full responsibility. I had to change into a dry set of uniform after jumping into the pool with Misaki and my pants zipper was stuck which lead to Browning--" Sora with his lack of social awareness did not know he was detailing the events of today more than necessary to the club president. As he valued attendance and punctuality, he felt even more obliged than usual to explain the happenings that lead up to the tardiness. He didn't apologize for Misaki, as she was not an official club member and was not held to the same standard as proper members.

However, his whispering by the violet-haired girl's ear was interrupted by a sudden firm grip on his shoulder from none other than Rhys who wished to stop the tactless senior from continuing further for fear that he would soon be a laughing stock. Rhys wanted to avoid all manner of touching the cyan-haired boy had he been given a moment to second-guess himself but it was a natural instinct in order to spare his pride. "That's enough." The taller but younger male's strength combined with serious, lower tone of voice sent a clear message even to the dense Sora who ceased speaking immediately and looked over his shoulder to give a knowing nod at Rhys. The senior frail boy saw the situation a lot like wearing red and standing in the way of a raging bull, with an intimidating aura. Despite his social behavior as quite unorthodox, there were few who could reason with him and the brown-haired junior had become one of them. Rhys removed his hand and released a sigh of both relief and annoyance. Sora was older than him but in many ways, not nearly as mature.

Sora proceeded to sit between Misaki and Yuuki while Rhys seated himself on the other side with an unfamiliar face (Haruhi) and Shiori. As Rhys intended to take study club seriously, he knew he'd be seeing the members on a weekly basis and it was worth getting along. "Hello. I'm Browning, Rhys. Yourself?" He introduced himself and asked the senior girl (Haruhi). Her nationality was a mystery as there were obvious foreign features like her sandy blonde hair but traces of an asian ethnicity as well. Her accent would be more on an indicator to him whether she was a local or a foreign student. Awaiting her response, he gave her a discreet onceover while taking his seat, observing that his new acquaintance was quite beautiful before returning his attention to the club activities. Sora also took note of the same blonde hair student as the girl who advised him about how to treat girls not long ago but didn’t say or do anymore than a head tilt and blatant stare before Shiori spoke up to the group.

"If everyone can eat without making a mess, I've brought some cake to share. Everyone remember to properly thank Browning-san. I hope you don't mind I've brought a tag along, Fujioka-san... I will take full responsibility for her."

Rhys rubbed the back of his head a little shyly as his name was mentioned aloud although his expression remained stoic, keeping his embarrassment in check. Sora was feeling peckish after a long day and neatly retrieved and set his eating utensils as well as divided a fair slice onto his plate. "Arigatou Browning-san, Kitogawa-san. It looks delightful." He bowed his head politely in gratitude then ate a spoonful. His eyes lit up briefly at the splendid taste before trailing off in Misaki’s direction who was next to him. Sora leaned over closing the gap between them until there was nothing left, spoon dangling in his mouth childishly as he looked over his fellow senior’s (Misaki) notes. "Chu made spellin’ mistack." His words were almost incoherent mumbling as he pointed at a word on her paper. Rhys wasn’t minding anyone else as he focused on his own assignment. His partner (Mao) wasn’t present and there was a chance they would meet up to continue working on it together sometime but he would feel much better adding onto it now and running it by her for approval later. The others’ appeared to be working on similar assignment tasks too so there was an opportunity to brainstorm and bounce ideas off each other.

Sora and Rhys simultaneously looked at Shiori as she dropped her pencil. It was a minor clumsy act but in the peaceful library, the pencil drop was loud enough to attract their attention. Her face was an undeniable dark shade of red adding to the curiosity and concern of both boys with different reactions to address it. "Kitogawa-senpai, do you need a breather?" Rhys thought it would be idiotic to ask the general question ‘Are you okay?’ as her face was clearly flushed. He was making the move to stand from his chair to escort her out of the library if required. She had a tendency to get embarrassed quite easily and the blush didn’t look like it would die down quickly. She could also be a sourpuss and overreact when presented with an embarrassing situation but he had no clue why she was red in the face in the first place. Sora removed the spoon from between his lips and gestured at the dark-haired senior president with it. "Could it be you are stressed Kitogawa-san? Studies can be quite stressful and still, you offered to assist with Kim-san's half. Be sure you are not pushing yourself." Sora closed his eyes in thought and lowered the spoon to place on the plate. He was not that close to the other class president for seniors but as they had similarities about difficulties fitting in, presidencies and he was in debt to her for diffusing his situation with Ryou and Devone, he did care about her well being genuinely. He recalled his attempt to alleviate Yuuki's stress before during the evacuation and the idea popped up in his head that didn't take long to form into intractable words. "Browning-san, instead of a breather she needs a kiss." He selected Rhys as her junior, close proximity to her and as the first one to speak up about Shiori's personal dilemma. "Fujioka-san can attest that it is effective." Sora shared all his thinking with no consideration for the outcome.

✽ You're not such an easy target

xxxxWithin the hummer limousine, it was as silent as a crypt as the vehicle left the premises of Airdalen. Goro was at the wheel with Isaac beside him while Devone sat alone behind them, scrolling through her phone browsing news stories for anything of interest. The partition that separated the driver’s compartment from the passenger compartment was open but for a while, no words were spoken so the opening went unnoticed.

xxxxThe peace was eventually disturbed as Isaac’s curiosity got the better of him. “Did Kim say anything to you about a new boyfriend?” he asked Goro. The former policeman kept his eyes focused on the road ahead but leaned back in his seat comfortably when they reached the first red traffic light. “No.” he replied straightforwardly. It was no secret in the household that Devone favored Goro over Isaac, as a supporter of her mother’s murder theory since the very beginning. His fingertips tapped against the steering wheel as he waited for the light to change, a memory of his employer passing through his mind as quickly as the wind . “You are the closest I have to a best friend. Do not fail me.” The younger Devone said as she removed his official police badge from his chest and hired him as one of her own forces.
“Hah, that’s odd.” Isaac commented and scratched his chin as he was sure that Goro would know if Devone got a new beau. “I’ve seen her with other boys but that was something else.” He folded his arms behind his head. The car drove on as Goro spotted the green go signal. “How so?” he asked Isaac. He did sense something but couldn’t put his finger on it. The former policeman had no love life whatsoever with his narrow focus on work matters so he could not relate to the topic or see any distinct difference. However, he knew many details of Devone’s love life, that she had dumped a boyfriend soon after her mother’s death and that she hadn't dated anyone after. “There was no warmth. It was very cold and business-like with the others. This time.. There was a chemistry. It gave me goosebumps. Even the way they talked to each other was sickeningly lovey dovey.” Isaac explained then dramatically mimicked what he had overheard. "You and I.. we could make the whole world jealous.” He said in the best ditzy feminine voice he could do that was meant to represent Devone then cleared his throat and lowered the pitch for the guy she was seen with. “..Let the world be jealous then.”

xxxxThere was a loud bang! As a bullet was shot through the windshield glass. Goro turned to the rear-view mirror for answers and Isaac swore his head off as it appeared to be a shot aimed for him. Upon realizing it would have to have been shot from inside the car, Isaac turned around urgently worried for his employer’s safety. “Devone!” His eyes widened as the dark-haired girl was the one who pulled the trigger with one hand holding the gun and reapplying her lip gloss with the other hand. Smacking her lips together, her face darkened unamused by the gossip. "Are you making fun of me, scum?" Goro sighed, fully aware of his employer’s short fuse of which Isaac was usually the victim of. The pistol gun was one of his spares hidden for emergencies that Devone had inconveniently pulled out for show and tell. “Just speaking my mind miss.” Isaac confessed, his hands raised in surrender as his chin rested on the top part of his seat. “That gun shot would’ve attracted attention.” Goro advised. “I don’t care. I refuse to sit back and tolerate his insolence.” Devone remarked. Isaac shrugged his shoulders, not taking the threat seriously. He also knew the highschool girl wasn’t trained to shoot. “Let’s clear the air shall we? Are you two dating?” “No!” “Christ, put the gun down...” Isaac said as he noticed the girl’s hand wasn’t firmly holding the gun, a bit on the shaky side as she threw her little tantrum.

xxxxShe puffed out her cheeks stubbornly but lowered the gun anyway as it was heavier than she anticipated. The questions continued. “A relationship to be maybe~?” Isaac persisted. ”Relationships have a time limit… I am simply using him until he expires.” Devone responded but there was a trace of sadness in that truth. Her eyes steadied and locked on Isaac with confidence as he interrogated her but her tone betrayed her just a little bit, enough for Isaac and Goro to hold onto their shred of doubt. “Ah, that’s not what it looked like to me.” Isaac admitted with a shake of his head. “What do you mean?” Devone’s mobile beeped as she received from Isaac’s number a photo of the moment Ryou was holding her protectively close. Her posture stiffened and her eyes became dangerously red as her fingers dug into the phone with murderous intent. “I swear Isaac, you're--!!!” She yelled her threat but he cut her off by closing the partition. Goro sighed once more as he compared them to bickering siblings of a more dangerous level. The silence of a crypt returned as Devone settled. She looked down at the captured photo of herself enveloped in Ryou's arms on the phone screen balanced in her hands and whispered to no one, “Who are you?”

The day always starts in a predictable rhythm. It has been that way for Aeon every day of his life since that falling snow. And like so, his routine starts with the sound of a bokken cutting through the air relentlessly. It can be argued that the ferocity in his swings represents a boiling emotion inside. But, it should be noted there is that hint of mechanical cadence. That was the indication of his calculated effort and after a while, that melody came to a halt with a count of 300 strokes. Then, it was followed by a clutter for the bokken fell from his grasp. He then unceremoniously sat on the wooden floors. His broken arm clearly trembling with a pain traveling like a needle through his veins. He forced it even if he is aware of the possible consequences. The reason is simple. He did not want to validate this injury any longer. It hindered him long enough. That was the thought he had as he fell on his back and looked at the ceiling. He stayed that way for a good while before he stood.

"I should go." After saying that, Aeon made preparations to leave his penthouse suite. He did make plans for the weekend to spend time with Brinx. With a carrier in hand, he exited the elevator at the basement parking. There he decided to drive his car. Soon enough, he was on his way to pick up his younger brother for a trip at the Sumida Aquarium. In regards to his broken arm, he had removed the cast and took a few painkillers that should last until the day is done. He did not want to worry Brinx for something trivial. It has been a while since they saw each other. He did not want to disappoint the young boy. And so, he eventually reached the Shirokami Main House. It is a scene that is both distant and dear, a place that invokes many things. However, he cut those murmurs in his head before it bloomed.

"Welcome back, Shirokami-sama." The guards and the servants greeted Aeon like they always did. Even if he had been living on his own for quite some time now, he is still the eldest son of the prestigious Shirokami. He is still the heir until further notice. "Where is my brother?" A nearby servant answered his query. "Brinx-sama has yet to finish his study session with his tutor." He casually looked at his watch to check if he came a bit early. Apparently, that was not the case. "I see. Tell my brother that I will be in the garden waiting for him." Without another word, he left towards the zen garden that his mother loved. She said it was a beautiful wasteland. His mother always had the most fascinating description of everything around her. Those words certainly made a lasting impression in him.

Aeon arrived at the garden and looked at the flawless landscape maintained with great detail and care. It has not changed at all. Whether that is a good thing or not, he cannot absolutely know. Anyway, he put down the carrier in his hand and opened it. After doing that, he settled himself against the wisteria tree's trunk and procured a Japanese book of poetry which he brought with him. He had been studying haiku, senryu, haiga, and tanka. There is a certain client who is an avid fan of it. The key to a successful business transaction is not only through resources, professionalism, and skill. It was also appealing to the better part of one's personality. Just like that, he passed time reading while the garden became a lovely backdrop for him. The scene he made was certainly admired by the many eyes who saw him. But, only one dared to disturb it.

Image"For someone who adheres to manners and etiquette, you seemed to have forgotten to greet your elders."

Aeon removed his attention on the written word and looked at a very familiar girl. He is aware that she is here but knew that she would seek him out at her own accord. That was for the best. In the past, he would make his greetings but she always has a displeased expression. He decided not to do it anymore. "Hello Elder Hirakawa-san." He then closed the book he was reading. It would do him no good since she has arrived.

"I am not that old! And how many times have I been telling you to call me Aiko-neesan!" Aiko said loudly while pointing at Aeon angrily. She is only a year older than him. Through the marriage of their parents, they became stepsiblings to one another. As seen, they do not have a harmonious relationship. "Wait... Are you ignoring me? Hey Aeon-kun!" He was not ignoring her. But, he did not see the sense of responding to her words. There was no way he would call her that and if he said that, there would just be a long and heated discussion.

Aeon had never met a girl who talks a lot like her and is always ready for an argument. "Do you not have work today?" He decided to change the topic. Aiko was still glaring at him but took his lead while crossing her arms in front of her chest. "I do. I have a rehearsal for a fashion show. I heard you are taking Brinx for a trip to the aquarium." Her eyes narrowed. "You better not think he likes you more than me, okay?" In one way or another, it was always a competition with her. It was tiresome but he believed she should eventually outgrow such childish intent. "I do not dare." There was a moment of silence between them as she continued to stare at him intently. She does not believe a word he says. "Hmph!" She then looked away in a huff but then remembered something. "Oh, that's right. Shirokami-sama wanted me to tell you that you must attend the Christmas Banquet." Her tone changed from haughty and annoyed to serious and concern.

Image"Duly noted." Aeon straightened his posture while giving his indifferent answer. For a moment, Aiko was placed in a trance. He is a beautiful man that is something she hated to admit. But, it is the truth and even with his odd fashion sense, he always makes it appear fashionable and cool. She is a model and he is unfair. "Are you having a fever?" His voice broke the trance and her cheeks which only has a faint pink has now spread all over her face. She was quite red. To hide her embarrassment and her saving grace that he is a buffoon in noticing her feelings, she shouted at him. "I am not sick! Baka! Baka! Baka! Baka!"

Aiko made herself scarce as she left in a hurry. Aeon was not surprised. Their conversations mostly end in that manner. He was used to it. Anyway, he thought about what she said about his attendance at the Christmas Banquet. His 'father' had sent him messages and even called him once about it. If that person was here, he was certain they would be discussing it. He had been absent in those banquets for a while now. There were no repercussions. This time it was different and he was certain there would be consequences if he chose to be absent again.

Truthfully, Aeon was not concerned about the reprimand he will receive if he disobeys. The only thing that is making him reconsider is the effect it might have on the things which mattered to him. "How troublesome..." He muttered under his breath. It was no secret to anyone within the service of Shirokami Household even more so who belongs to the family that he and his father are estranged and actively fight to dominate each other.

"Aeon-sama!" Rando came running towards Aeon at breakneck speed. He knew that his master would be coming to fetch the young master Brinx. But, he was not immediately notified that his master has already arrived at the Mansion. "Aeon-sama, why didn't you tell me you were already here!? Eh- Wait your ca-!" At that point, the poetry book in hand was indeed useful.

Aeon unreservedly smacked it on Rando's face. It effectively silenced and stopped the red-haired attendant. The matter about his broken arm is something he does not deny. "Do not speak of it." Rando nodded behind the book which was still pressed on his face. He does understand his master's intention and would abide by it. Aeon removed the book and spoke of another matter. "Is it as I suspected?" Rando who was rubbing his reddened nose now wore a serious expression. "Yes, Aeon-sama. Do you want me to do it now?" There was a brief silence. "Not yet."

Image"Oniisama!" Brinx was finally done with his tutor and was running with all his might to reach his older brother. "Not now." Aeon softly said as Rando had a small smile in understanding. "Of course." Brinx has now reached Aeon as he wrapped his small arms around his older brother's knees. "It has been a while, Brinx." He then carried his little brother into his arms. Seeing this, Rando cannot help but be concerned knowing his master's injury. But, Aeon ignored such muted pleas. "Yes! I missed you Oniisama!" Brinx wrapped his small arms this time around Aeon's neck and nuzzled happily at his older brother's neck.

"I as well. Have you been a good boy?" Aeon's eyes softened considerably and the corner of his lips lifts up. "Yes! Okaasama and Oneechan praised me for being a good boy too!" Brinx was clearly attached to his older brother and nuzzled further into Aeon's neck. The action made Rando envious. "It's unfair! I want to hug Aeon-sama too! Please Aeon-sama, let me!" There was a clear rejection from Brinx as he pouted and pointed at Rando. "No! Only I can hug Oniisama! Go, Alicia!" This time around an orange and white long-haired feline jumped on Rando's face without hesitation.

Image Alicia is a Norwegian Forest Cat and is Brinx's pet. She was actually adopted through a shelter when Brinx by coincidence saw her on TV. And eventually, she has become the de facto queen of the house. Recently though, she was taken care of by Aeon when his little brother went to Los Angeles. "Ah! Ah! Alicia-sama! No! Help!" While Rando was busy begging Alicia to stop stomping on his face, Brinx looked very proud in protecting his older brother from being hugged. "Oniisama, I did good, right?"

Aeon gently smiled. It was a small smile and can only be seen by Brinx. "Yes, you did well." He then felt Alicia jumped on his shoulders and began to purr. In the past weeks, she has become attached to him. "Alicia wanted to know if she did well too, Oniisama!" He gently rubbed behind Alicia's ear as her purr increased in its volume. "You were perfect, Alicia." Unfortunately for Rando, Aeon has an absolute defense in the form of Brinx and Alicia. As a result, he was now a disheveled mess on the ground. He was quite exhausted from wrestling with Alicia and was now sobbing. "So cruel.... So cruel.."

Brinx now felt sorry about Rando. "Uhm... Rando-san... I am sorry." He bowed his head and was sincerely sorry. It seemed he went too far. Rando stood from the ground and quickly cleaned himself up. "It is fine, Brinx-sama! You only wanted to protect Aeon-sama, right?" He smiled at the young master who happily nodded as the answer. "I also want to protect Aeon-sama, so I can hug Aeon-sama too, right?" After saying that, Rando once more tried to hug Aeon. "Alicia, take care of Rando." Alicia's eyes now had a sharp glint as she jumped from Aeon's shoulder to Rando's face again. "Oniisama, will Rando-san be all right?" Aeon looked at Brinx's concerned face and then at Rando who yet again wrestling with Alicia. "He will be fine. Rando, take care of Alicia." Hearing his older brother's assurance, Brinx smiled brightly. With that, the Shirokami siblings finally left for their trip to the Sumida Aquarium while in the far background, they can hear Rando's wails and Alicia's hisses.

"WAH!! Someone help!"

The heart pumping. The sweat staining the skin. The blood flowing relentlessly. The breathing fighting for freedom. The wind seeking adherence. The mind wandering without consideration. The adrenaline never ceasing its control. That is Ryou's current state while doing his usual morning routine. His speed never losing ground as it increases in bursts. He also incorporated lunges in them. He only stopped when he reached his 8-mile mark. After that, he proceeded to go to his gym which he does on weekends. There he started his regimen of front squats, clean high pulls, chin-ups, power lunges, towel rack rows, dumbbell jump squats, push jerks, close-grip bench presses, dumbbell step-ups, and barbell curl and presses. He let himself be drowned in the physicality of his workouts. It blocks out the noise of his wandering thoughts and that is helpful. That continued for an hour and a half before he cooled down and took a shower.

Ryou left the gym and then visited the local market. It was his turn to prepare breakfast so he grabbed a few ingredients before returning home. Everyone was still sleeping and that was normal on days like these. They tend to sleep in. His uncle left yesterday for a business trip and won't be back till next week. His cousin, Reisha went on a winter training sports camp and would not be back till Monday. Basically, it is just his aunt, Trixie, Hikaru, and him at home. That means he would be making breakfast for four. He dropped what he bought at the kitchen counter and began to make his preparations for an American breakfast. Hikaru requested it to him when he picked him up at school yesterday. His little brother must have missed what their mother used to make for them back in that old place.

Image"Ohayōgozaimasu! That smells delicious Ryou-kun as always!" Margarette greeted Ryou with a bright smile as she entered the kitchen. During the weekends, it was her dependable nephew that handles the kitchen duties. It was really amazing too because she thought initially that he could only make fried and burnt things. But surprising enough, he maneuvers cooking with great ease. "You will be a wonderful househusband, Ryou-kun." He wasn't sure if he should be happy about that comment or not. That's why he chose to ignore it and instead handed his aunt her favorite earl gray creme black tea. "Ohayō, Obasan."

Margarette took the tea. "Arigatou!" She took a sip and then helped to set up the table. Trixie and Hikaru would be up any moment after all. But while doing so, she asked Ryou. "Ryou-kun, I did not tell Takahiro, but you are not hurt in that fire, right?" He approached the table and put down the food he cooked. "No. I'm fine. Don't worry." He then looked at his aunt dauntingly. "You can inspect me if you want." She blinked her eyes a couple of times as she registered his words and then laughed. "If I didn't know better. You were flirting. You really should practice your Japanese more."

Ryou had an awkward expression as he rethinks about his words. "Gomen." Margarette patted his shoulder. She was aiming for his head but he is just too tall for her. "It's fine. You are taking the kids out later on right?" He nodded. "Yeah, Hikaru and Trixie wanted to go to the Aquarium." She smiled warmly at him. Whenever he is free, he would not fail to spend time with the little ones. He was also really good at handling them. She recalled the time he was left with the primary schoolers during a school trip. He played with them by becoming a human lifting machine and a substitute monkey bar. "Well then, I'll make the lunches then." He shook his head at that. "You don't have to. I'm in charge of the kitchen. Just take the day-off Obasan." She forgot that he is quite the responsible and dutiful type of person. He never backs out from any work he accepted.

ImageIt was at that point Trixie entered in clear excitement because of the delicious smell. "Ohayō! Wow!!! Pancakes!!!!" She did not waste time as she took her seat at the table. It was always a great treat when Ryou cooks for them. She is actually envious of Hikaru who always ate his older brother's food before they came to Japan. She usually just enjoys it during weekends. Other than the food, she was also excited about the trip to the Aquarium. It was going to be a wonderful day she was sure of that. "Ohayōgozaimasu, Trixie-chan." Margarette patted the head of her daughter. "Ohayō, Trixie." He used to call his little cousin with a -chan. But, she was clearly opposed to it and said to call her by name. She had a very large pout so he just complied.

Trixie smiled happily while Margarette started to fill her daughter's plate with pancakes, hash browns, sausages, toasts, sunny-side up eggs, and bacon. There is also a salad and some fruits to munch on then milk or orange juice to flush it all down. Ryou presented his little cousin with syrups and toppings she would like on her pancakes. "Ryou-nii can you draw a smiley face on my pancake?" He didn't mind. Ever since he did it for Hikaru, Trixie had been asking for it too. The two had formed an odd rivalry with Ryou in the middle. "Sure."

ImageWhile Ryou was doing that, he felt someone tugging on his pants. He looked and gave a small smile. "Ohayō, Hikaru." Margarette greeted her little nephew too. "Ohayōgozaimasu, Hikaru-kun." In return, Hikaru smiled back. "Ohayō Nii-chan! Obachan!" Trixie also gave her greeting. "Ohayō! Hikaru-kun! You better hurry up and eat!" Hearing this, Hikaru glared at Trixie. She was supposed to wake him up but she didn't. Instead, she was hugging his brother's attention. That was not really fair. "Hmph! If you eat that many you will turn into a piggy you know." Trixie pouted. "I will not! You are a meanie!" That was the start of a rather noisy breakfast.

Margarette did her best to calm Hikaru and Trixie who were both engaged in an argument which jumps all over the place. But, it was clear to her that these two kids get along just fine. They were excited for their trip to the Aquarium with Ryou. It made her wonder if Ryou was similar to Hikaru when he was much much younger. She looked at her older nephew who was reading the newspaper while drinking his black coffee. He sure acts like an old man with his habits and choice of drink. "Now if you two are done with your breakfast, you should go upstairs and get ready, okay?"

"Hai!"
Hikaru and Trixie both answered happily. With breakfast done, Ryou cleaned up while Margarette helped out even when he said he can handle it. "Aren't you going out for the day too, Obasan? You can leave this with me." She released a sigh and looked at her nephew who was insistent on not letting her help. She really can't do much if he really stops her seriously. "..Fine, I'll get out of your way, Ryou-kun. But do tell me if you need anything okay?" He nodded as a positive answer and he was finally left alone in the kitchen. It was silent and it didn't bother him. This was quite welcomed since most of the time he is surrounded by the noises of those around him. Some were welcomed. Others are greatly rejected. It seemed he is still disconnected.

The quiet moment soon passed as Ryou was now done with cleaning up. It was then his phone rang. "Yeah?" Another voice echoed through as his eyes narrowed at every word that he heard. He left the kitchen and was now outside at the backyard. He clearly didn't want his conversation to be heard. "It's fine. I already have one." He then looked at the windows which he found Hikaru looking at him with a smile. "Just make sure that guy is there." Hikaru waved at him which he returned with a smile and a wave too. "I'll handle the rest." Satisfied, Hikaru continued with getting ready for the trip as he left the window. Ryou lowered his hand and his silver eyes gleamed with a dangerous sharpness. "I don't lose." He ended the call and released a heavy sigh before returning inside the house. He still needs to go to the Aquarium.

Image"You know, you have a deadline, right?" This was none other than Kazuki's editor, Hiou Keiki. who has a key to the house for 'emergency' purposes. In his hand, he carried a plastic bag of icepacks. "And, I don't think it would be bad to clean up." Actually, he is standing on the only portion in the entire house that has no form of trash. It should be noted that he is wearing his shoes for protection. The place would even make a pigpen look like a luxury. "Your uncle would definitely beat you up again."

Keiki put down the plastic bag on the end table and took out a small planner. Among all the writers that he handles, Kazuki was the most troublesome and the greatest earner. He swears if the guy just straightens up everything would be a whole lot easier for everyone. "I'll get you an assistant." He then looked around the house. "Who is also a live-in housekeeper. You definitely need one." There was no response which could only mean two things. Kazuki is still sleeping or is currently ignoring him and the guy is a master at that part. "I won't go away until you finish the manuscript you know." This was followed with his foot tapping on the floorboards.

Kazuki clicked his tongue who was currently buried by blankets and pillows. His hand left the confines of the blankets and pointed at his desk "Get it and get out." Keiki looked at the messy desk and found the manuscript. It was all done when he took notice of another piece of document. It was just a rough draft from the looks of it and it was different from the usual work. Personally, it was not bad at all. It has potential. "Are you trying a new genre?" The response was the throwing of an alarm clock as it hit the wall which is quite far from him. That definitely means that he should get out. He was used to it. Kazuki gets this way when there is a terrible hangover. He drank a whole bar if the bottles downstairs and in the bedroom were used as evidence. Keiki was just surprised that there was no company present. Well, it was not his business. As long as Kazuki delivers as the author Tsukino, then, he has no complaints. "Fine. Catch you later and here take some aspirin." Keiki placed the blister pack at the bedside. He then left the younger boy alone. He also made sure to lock the door when he left.

After a while, Kazuki emerged from the sea of blankets and pillows. He held his head as it was really pounding. It was like a drill penetrating his skull and he could not blame anyone for that but himself. Well, he could blame a whole lot of people, but it would just make him want to drink all over again. He reached for the aspirin and pop a few in his mouth. He then covered his head with a pillow as if drowning every stimulus that could force him to face the new day. He should sleep... that way he doesn't need to think about anything else. It just gives him a problem and even more when he acts on it. Yesterday was a disaster and he thought he relishes in that kind of environment. He superbly failed though when he was at the center of it. The whole thing was a comedy and he was the butt of jokes. Yeah. "I am a big joke." Like that, he closed his eyes waiting for sleep to take over him.

The only thing that took over Kazuki was the growling of his stomach. He was hungry. This forced him to get out of the bed while holding his aching head. He made the trek to his kitchen which is arduous. He stepped on many landmines and the house was constantly filled with curses that would make the dead get up from their graves to teach him a lesson. When he reached his refrigerator, he wished that he never got out of the bed. His feet were like a slumdog millionaire and his head just ached further. He needs to take aspirin again. Anyway, he opened the fridge and looked for anything that he could eat. It is best to silence this piranha in his body. "Trash. Expired. Moldy. This looks fine." He reached out to a carton of milk and drank and he quickly spits it out. "Gah... Spoiled." He threw it in the trash bin which is already overflowing. "Nothing..." He changed strategies and started raiding through the cabinets and drawers. His search came out empty and the growling just gets louder and louder. It was even more annoying than his headache. He needs to buy food.

ImageKazuki reached for his pockets and found his cigarette pack. He definitely needs nicotine in his system right now. He lit it up and went to a nearby window as he parted the curtains. The sun's light streamed in as he quickly covered his eyes. It hurts as he returned the curtains to cover it up. It was certainly day outside. He went to the couch and removed the trash on it which meant he threw it on the floor. With that done, he laid down as the smell of cigarettes surrounded him.

The hangover was settling down now. The aspirin must be taking effect which is not a good thing. That is because Kazuki was remembering things again. His confusing and dismal conversations with Fuyuki. His failure of a love. His acting out on that cross-dressing girl. His burning jealousy. His argument with that stickman. His way of making himself better with Gen. His fucking selfishness. No... there was another thing there... "Regret...."

"I felt regret." Kazuki exhaled the nicotine smoke and then laughed. He laughed so hard that his eyes were watering up as he covered it with his arm. "Fuck... Fuck... Fuck..." He sat up and swiped away everything that was on the coffee table near him. Sounds of glass breaking filled the room. "Fuck!"

Image"Hey Kaz..." Kazuki was unmoving as he held his head and looked at the floor as if it holds the answers to all. "Won't you take a chance?" He then stood and looked at the ceiling as he exhaled another round of smoke. "With me?" He extinguished his cigarette on the couch's arm and then threw the cigarette butt somewhere on the floor. There was that woman from before who asked him a question. He laughed. He remembered laughing. "You'll regret it."

There it was again Kazuki's stomach growling. "I'll laugh at you when that happens." He needed food... and something to drink. If he does meet that woman again, he would laugh with her. That's because she was absolutely right. She must be a fortuneteller. He left the living room and went to take a shower. That should clear his head. Maybe he could hit his head while he is in the bathroom and then suffers amnesia. The kind that will never go away so he won't remember everything. If that happens, he can be back to normal. "Something convenient like that will never happen though."

Johnny “Jay” Farelli

---

Jay shook awake, his eyes felt heavy, but his breathing was sharp and quick. He wasn't sure why his body picked now to wake up- the moon was high in the sky, and the sky was as black as a city skyline could allow. Johnny groaned as he licked his dry lips. His throat felt parched, so he decided to get a drink of water. He stood up from his bed and headed through the door.

As he crossed the threshold, still half-asleep, Johnny's eyes widened as he found himself in a small classroom.

"Class, we have a new student joining us today." She was there, ebony, and beautiful. His eyes became transfixed, like they did the first time. Next to her was a kind old woman who made odd hand gestures, but John didn't notice.

"John, you're staring, man." Avery's voice reached him, but John didn't turn for a moment. Finally, when he felt a nudge on his shoulder, Johnny turned his head. "You okay, John?"

"Yeah," Johnny spoke breathlessly as his gaze slowly returned to the majestic creature. He had never felt the sudden feelings he felt in his guts before.

Avery smirked as he looked at the new girl. "Go say hi, man."

"Wha-"

"When you can, of course." His best friend leaned back with a knowing look. "Don't wanna get in trouble with Mr. Whitaker again."

Johnny looked back, and their eyes met. She smiled, and so did he. Johnny waved sheepishly, and the girl wordlessly rose a hand to her lips, stifling soundless laughter.

"I think I will," John replied to Avery, as he stood up and approached.

"John Farelli," Mr. Whitaker was ever the eagle-eyed stout man. "Please return to your seat."

"I just wanted to say hi," John replied.

"That would prove difficult Mr. Farelli," Gen's voice suddenly filled the room. Johnny shuddered as the air grew cold and the light faded. Where the girl stood, the Phantom remained.

"Why's tha-?" John asked automatically, but his voice grew more nervous, "Wait this isn't right.. Aver-" He turned to see that his friend- all his classmates- even Mr. Whitaker- were gone.

"You think you want to say hi." Gen's voice continued, ire polluted her tone. Her cross-shaped eyes formed in mid-air, staring wide-eyed at Johnny no matter where he looked. The stare was almost accusing with how wide the eyes were. Haruhi's eyes appeared as well. "You say you want to save people, but you only want to feel good."

"It's not true!" John insisted. "I only wanted to say hi!"

"And where did it get us? Where did it get you?" The roar of a car engine filled his ears, growing louder and louder. As John turned, he saw the driver's face. Why did it have to be me, John?

The window was bright, but Johnny only caught a glimpse, as he shot awake before rolling out of his bed- tangled in his blanket. After a brief period ofpanicked flailing, Jay slowed his breathing. His heart rate thundered through his body, and he felt sweat as cold as ice all around him.

"Weakness..." He muttered to himself as he carefully untangled himself and stepped- alone in the apartment- into the lone bathroom. "Lock it up." He felt his knuckles slam against something, but he didn't look. "LOCK IT UP, damn you!" He growled suddenly before clapping a hand to his mouth. He breathed slowly between his fingers. "I need... to be me again..." He muttered the mantra as he turned on the cold water. He coughed as he rubbed his eyes. Tears had formed in the night, leaving salt caked onto his cheeks. "I have to be strong... for everyone's sakes..."

He looked at what he had struck. The medicine cabinet door was buckled. "Fuck me sideways..."

After he left the bathroom, Johnny dropped to the floor and began his morning routine.

Image

The skies remained dark with clouds filling the skies. They may not have had the same sickly colour as the chemical fire from yesterday, but they inspired a dismal attitude in most people. With his smiling mask refreshed, Johnny Farelli was not most people this morning. Sure there was that episode with the medicine cabinet, but his parents were out of the city for a few days more. There were a few errands to complete today; completing Gen-chan's gift, grocery shopping, learning more about Tokyo. Buying a new door and installing it was hardly a problem for the foreigner.

First things first, Johnny began his day by rushing over to the Blacksmith's workshop. It was somewhat early in the morning on a relatively easier day, and most people would be sleeping in. As he entered, the Smith greeted him with a large mug of coffee in his hand. The foreigner wore sweat pants and cross trainers. Beneath a thick hoodie with zipper pockets, he wore a logo tee that fit over his build. Shirts he technically outgrew were the only ones he had, unfortunately. (TSE insists it's "fortunately" for the sake of the ladies.)

"All it needs is a little..." Johnny rattled a spray can and ran an even coat of automotive paint over the finished steel piece. "There." The paint dried rapidly, giving the steel bracelet a lovely purple colour. The transparent nature of the paint itself allowed the subtle steel lattice pattern to show through. The purple matched the image burned into his mind. Also, as is known for a good automotive paint, it dries very quickly.

"Brat!" The blacksmith called, "As long as you're here, could you help?"

"Hai, sensei!" Johnny barked in response. He had all day, after all. After he finished the heavy lifting the smith couldn't accomplish with one arm, the foreigner returned to his finished product and held it up in the light.

The smith smirked as he approached, seemingly knowing something the foreigner didn't. "Good luck, brat," the old man said as he patted Johnny's shoulder.

"What for?"

The smith chuckled, "If it falls through, it'd make a fun plot to a manga."

What's a manga? Johnny thought. He was about to ask, when the Smith playfully smacked the foreigner's shoulder. "You should go get a nice box for that. I don't keep any here." Understandable, paper burns when in contact with the flying embers and superheated scale.

"Oh yeah!" Johnny slipped the bracelet into the left hoodie pocket, which he then zipped up. "Where can I get one?"

"There's an outdoor mall downtown. Plenty of stores there." The Smith headed back to his workbench, where he had left his mug. "There's bound to be an arts and crafts store that's got what you need."

Johnny nodded. With a low bow and a loud and clear thank you, (the smith shook his head in amusement and shoo'd the foreigner out) Johnny was out and on his way. He then pulled out his phone and began looking up a specific location for the outdoor mall. The phone was the only computer he had any familiarity with. When he navigated the touch menu, he paused at the icon for Contacts. The tension in his heart was still there. Mentally,he reminded himself, Forget it. I've got a job to do. Just get it done.

As he jogged through the industrial sector and into a more active public area, Johnny felt pretty darn good. The piece was exceptional for being his first attempt at working with steel. He knew that it was all because of the smith helping him during critical moments, the heat-treating, picking out materials and all that stuff only an expert would've known. However, the foreigner did forge and shape the steel himself. He had the arms for it at least. ”I’m gonna learn all that other stuff,” Johnny smirked at the idea. He wondered if he could get more hours instead of Friday afternoons, but he knew that between the three clubs, he probably wouldn't be able to. There was a nice zen quality to the work. As he looked at the steel he carried, he felt like the dream from last night had never happened. For a moment, there was a genuine bliss, one that not even his daily exercise could bring.

For a good long while, the foreigner jogged lightly. He had enough spacial awareness to weave around people and stop at traffic lights. However, he did flinch when he found himself standing at the entrance to an enormous garden park. The pink sakura blossoms had long vanished, swept up by the wind and city sweepers alike, making way to a deep green. The leaves were darkened to a beautiful deep green. Between the trees, the foreigner could only see a long winding path leading to who-knows-where. Upon broader inspection, the foreigner realised that this was one of the biggest parks he had ever seen.

”Yoyo…” Johnny struggled to read the name. He produced his pocket dictionary to quickly decipher it. ”Yoyogi…” He mumbled.

”Hello! On your left!” A jogger called, to which Johnny shifted aside to allow a small group to pass. The foreigner flashed a smile and bowed his head. ”Hello!” He called in response.

The foreigner joined in their jog for a bit. With his long legs, his stride easily overtook the other joggers. The leader of the pack called a word that the foreigner didn't quite catch, and they all upped the tempo. Soon enough, they were making a controlled dash for the next eight hundred metres. The foreigner hadn't done a dash in a while, so he wound up sweating heavily and panting by the end of it. Meanwhile, the other joggers called their thanks and continued on at their previous pace.

Why did they thank me? Johnny wondered as he watched the joggers vanish behind a bend in the path. Was it because I was a goal? Did they use me? No, they couldn't have.

The foreigner continued walking down a different path, where he found himself on a large brudge overlooking a beautiful pond. The structure wassolid, as were the planks that made up the foot path. The foreigner leaned on the railings as he watched the green canopies sway in the wind.

This is a beautiful place, the foreigner thought. It was nothing like home. Los Angelas had its wonderful places, to be certain. However, there was not quite the exotic appeal to the trees that once had pink leaves, the vastly different buildings, the tight quarters of the streets, and Mt. Fuji looming over the city like a guardian deity.

I’ve thought this before... but it is a place to start again. The foreigner refreshed the day's errand in his mind: to get a gift box. Johnny then spun around to continue walking.

Image"Chōchō chōchō..." Fuyuki was sitting on the wooden porch just outside the room she had been assigned to sleep in last night. She was still in her yukata as she gazed at the scene before her. There was a butterfly fluttering about the flowers in delight. She could not help but sing a children's song out of a whim. "Nanoha ni tomare..." It seemed fitting as she sang in humble fun. Her voice was nothing compared to those gifted but she could carry a tune and it had that playful yet soothing timbre. That is why it is pleasing to hear.

"Na no ha ni aitara sakura ni tomare..." Actually, Fuyuki had woke up a bit early. The sun was yet to break the sky and that was normal for her. She had been an early riser because it is during that period that a lot of unseen things wander about. It tugged on her consciousness and she inevitably wakes up to serve as a company. "Sakura no hana no..." A cold breeze passed by and her yukata was not equipped to keep her warm. It was quite loose so it gave hints of her skin from the neck and of the chest. She curled up as she hugs her legs close to her body. "Hana kara hana e..." She reached out her hand.

"Tomare yo asobe..." The lone butterfly perched on Fuyuki's finger which made her smile. "Asobe yo tomare..." The song ended and the butterfly flew away on cue. It was also at that moment the first rays of the sun broke through the clouds. "A new day comes..." She stretched her arms upward and then her legs forward. Then, she stood from her seat and welcomed the warmth shining from the sky. It was more or less a peaceful evening for her. There was a discussion about her staying over unceremoniously. It was no problem with Bishop's family. But, it was not that easy with hers. It was quite a long telephone discussion. She would not be surprised if her family's security along with the Imperial guards were outside this compound waiting for her. She had been told to return promptly this day after all.

The problem, Fuyuki has the tendency not to listen. She stepped down the porch and let her bare feet touch the ground. It was comforting as she scrunched her toes on it like it was sand. She took the chance to look at the house from her position as the morning shone upon it. This architecture is very familiar to her. Its rustic scent was like home to her. After all, she lives within the Imperial Palace. She recalled Bishop's tour and she cannot help but smile at the memories. It was a contrasting vision to see him in the colors associated with a foreigner and walk around this traditional monument as if it was completely normal. He actually looks very cool. She did find it enlightening and a bit entertaining when he spoke about the ancestral remembrance, charms, altars, and shrines his family keeps. She is to be the priestess of the highest ranking so she is knowledgeable about such things. It does impress her that her Junior has knowledge about it too.

Image"But, it is best that he never goes beyond..." Fuyuki softly muttered while her eyes glazed over with a scene of a memory. "You are like me, aren't you?" A hand reached out to touch the skin, seeking if it is alive. Trembling it was, the fear that it is an illusion filled it. "Be scared." The hand that touched the skin pierced to prove a point. "Only misfortune will be upon you. You should run." That voice cradled an agony so deep and a loneliness that death can never erase. "If you can't escape...then..."

Fuyuki woke from her reminisce as she looked at her hands that closed tightly into fists. Back then, she could not make sense of those words. Her inexperience shielded her from its meaning. Then again, she wondered if she would have still run away from it all even if she knew. "I..." She opened her hands and saw that her nails dug into her palms just enough to make a mark. "I will still be here..." She let her hands fall to her side and had a broken smile on her lips. "I am where I am supposed to be." She closed her eyes for a moment and then released a big breath. Her eyes fluttered open and her cheerful facade present for all to see. "These feet should move around now." Fuyuki stepped back into the porch and cleaned her feet before wearing her sandals.

Without waking or bothering anyone, Fuyuki walked about the house and soon reached its main garden. She looked around and can't help but remember what Bishop's grandmother said about them being rife with warrior's blood. She could see that this family is proud of their lineage. It made her wonder if she felt the same for the blood that flows inside her veins. She holds the blood of the Imperial Clan which claims descent from a god. The rest is the amalgamation of the noblest blood from the aristocracy of Japan which boasts richness, influence, and power. There is also the timing of her birth. She is the only direct female descendant of the Imperial Clan besides her Imperial Aunt which granted her a special status and the role of being the next Supreme Priestess who shall be the symbol of Japan's Religion, its spirit. "Pride... Is it really worth it?" She spoke so softly as it was carried by the wind.

Fuyuki stood at the center of the garden and the raised her hands sideward. Her palms facing the sky as she closed her eyes. The temperature around her was starting to lower, becoming an odd chill. "Let me offer my gratitude." She opened her eyes and a smile so gentle appeared on her face. "This solemn devotion to the gods. Let me grant a blessing that will bring fortune and protection." According to Bishop and his family, they served her ancestors with strength, honor, and loyalty. Then, this must be some otherworldly intervention. She will repay that service within a manner that should only be bestowed to the righteous as she was told.

ImageWith a flick of the wrist, Fuyuki began to dance a form of Kagura. It should be accompanied by music but even without it one could hear a melody in their heads, Her movements were precise, graceful, and filled with divine intention. It was indeed like she was talking to a god with every action of her body. She was also plainly wearing just a yukata but as she danced it was like she donned the ceremonial kimono fitting of her heritage as the Saishu.

There is another thing to be noticed. The air has indeed become chilly around her and the sun's light appeared to be shimmering as it comes across her. There is an otherworldly sheen that surrounded her but to the eyes of many, it was like a flicker of light, a mere trick to the eye. But for Fuyuki, this was not an illusion that can be dismissed with a shrug. The voices filled her ears like a lullaby that pulled her deeper to the dance. Her eyes gazing at a scenery that no one else can see. But like all performances, it has come to an end.

Fuyuki did the final pose and the sound of bells filled the garden and there is another notable difference from before again.

The air around Fuyuki seemed fresher and the garden appeared to be vibrant. The sun's light shone brighter as if a heavy burden had been lifted. There was also the scent of something sweet and clean. If one did not know any better, there had been a purification. Whatever it could be, she did not speak any detail about it. She only straightened herself and offered a formal bow as if there was indeed someone before her although there is only the empty garden. That gesture alone is quite the grand gesture. She may not be part of the main Imperial Family, but due to her circumstances, she is given the same respect and privilege as that of the Emperor and his closest kin. The Imperial Clan do not bow their heads to just anyone. "Arigatou Gozaimashita."

After that, Fuyuki felt a bit hungry. It is time for breakfast. She wondered if Bishop was already up and about. If not, she could go and see his mother, aunt, or grandmother and seek their permission for her to wake her sleepy junior. She then turned around to face the main house again. She actually expected no one to be there since she should be alone. But if there is someone there, she could only greet a very wonderful morning. There is also the hope that she wasn't seen much that weird. Oh well, what is life without a few oddballs isn't it? If none, she would enter the house without trouble as the bells on her hair rang. While in a certain portion of the garden, a certain corner, a certain flower had wilted and then fell on the ground.

Curious murmurs. Prying eyes. Admiring gazes. They all have one similarity. It was all about a certain eye-catching girl with bright green hair who has a presence which reminded people of western fairy tale princesses. She stood there by the post clock donned in an exquisite haute couture dress which created a surreal painting. That is why it is not a question why the passing crowd in this beautiful weekend day took effort and time to notice her. She was an ethereal vision and seemed out of place upon the busy streets of the city. There was no denying in their minds that she is not a native to the country of the rising sun. But as for the girl who was receiving the attention of the public, she appeared immune to it. This was not intentional and there is a good reason for this actually.

Cassiopeia was mind-numbing nervous. She never experienced such an intense degree of emotion before. This resulted in her current state in which she could not help but fidget where she stood while she held her hands together and placed it near her chest like a prayer. The fluttering of her heart needed comfort and so she let her eyes roamed about to find Hotaru not far from her position. Actually, she was hesitant being accompanied like a child especially when the situation is quite the personal matter. That is also the reason why she told Aeon to let her do this alone. He could not allow it due to her degrading health. However, he brought out a compromise where Hotaru will be present but shall give her enough space to ensure privacy. At first, she was hesitant but now she was thankful for this arrangement. It comforted her anxious self. The fumbling heart slowly steadied itself before it entered a frenzy with a voice.

ImageImage"There you are."

That familiar voice cut through Cassiopeia's world like a knife without resistance. Her rose pink eyes quickly settled on the man standing before her. He was certainly different from the man she had met a long time ago. Taller. Older. But, there was no doubt that it was him. It was like seeing a dream both near yet distant.

"Still beautiful as spring, Cassiopeia."

Those words shattered the dream revealing a blinding reality. He was really here as he smiled in that familiar manner. Cassiopeia could feel something bubbling deep within her. It made her eyes shimmer as she felt feverish but the good kind. There was just a flooding joy which made her smile so brightly.

"Yoshio!"

Cassiopeia took a step as the desire to embrace Yoshio filled her. However, she stopped in the middle of the act. She had a sudden thought that it was inappropriate and rather childish of her. It would be terrible if she is seen in a bad light. The result of her impromptu realization is her rather awkward position. Sensing her dilemma, he met her halfway.

"Don't be shy." Yoshio noted with a friendly laugh accompanying his voice. He reached out his arms to her and then enveloped her within his warmth. Cassiopeia's face instantly lit up like a red traffic light as he hugged her. She used the chance to bury her face into his chest to hide the embarrassing spectacle that is her face. This made her further fall into the clutches of the past. His smell which she can only describe like fresh snow surrounded her and pulled her into that serenity. If possible, she wanted to stay in his arms. "You haven't changed one bit." This was followed by a pat on the head as if she was a mere child in need of consoling. She felt conflicted because she finds his actions both kind and cruel. This time, she wanted to be different in his eyes.

"...Is that a good thing?" Cassiopeia asked with concern laced in her voice. "Yes, it is." There was another pat on the head and she notably pouted at that. She knew Yoshio was assuring her but that is not what she wanted to hear. It is true when they first met she was just a child with the simplest desires. As for him, he was already a man who was making his path in the world with confidence and fearlessness. That image of him was deeply etched into her heart and even now, it was still the same. However... "For you, it must be. But, I am not a child anymore. I am now an adult." She protested with her cheeks flushed and her eyes looking up at him in complain. His hand that was on the verge of patting her head hanged in the air. "That is right. You are a young lady now." He let that hand fall to his side and then released her from his arms. "Forgive me." His eyes held that gentleness she loved while he reached out his hand to her.

"Shall we go? We got a lot of catching up to do right?" Yoshio smiled at Cassiopeia who looked at his hand and then back at him with a vibrant smile. "Yes!" She took his hand and the memories that were so dear in the past surrounded her like a bubble of happiness. It had been years since the last time they met personally. The gaps in time had been filled with written correspondences they sent to each other. Even if it did not carry much weight for him, they were treasures that kept her looking forward to tomorrow. It is why it had been a prevailing thought inside of her that the relationship between them will not be different even if they do see each other again like now. However, there is no denying that they are different people now physically and she could only assume mentally as well.

ImageLooking at the hands clasped together, Cassiopeia's eyes glimmered like stars. She never knew that holding hands felt so nice. "Let's go there. I'll get you your favorite." Yoshio took her to a small bakery and then told her to wait for a while before handing her a freshly made bread all wrapped. When she opened it, it was a melon bread. "Yes, thank you!" Seeing her reaction, he could not help but smile sweetly. She seemed unaware that her cheerfulness is rather infectious in its sincerity. After all, it is now considered a rare thing for people to show innocent joy so willingly especially those who call themselves adults. "You're fine with walking and eating at the same time?" He offered his hand again for her to hold. She nodded energetically to show her agreement as she took his hand. "So, where are we off to?" She has no idea really since she did not make detailed plans for this day. Moreover, she was busy preparing herself mentally and even physically for this meeting. Initially, she thought they were going to some cafe or restaurant and spend their day talking.

Biting the lower lip, Cassiopeia felt idiotic for not making proper plans. "Good! I'm in charge then." Yoshio noticed her distress and did not want her to feel bad for something trivial. "Just follow me, okay?" He smiled at her with kindness and warmth that she could only nod in complete rapture and faith. Truthfully, he expected something like this to occur for this day out. Her lineage and the environment she was raised in gave her a limited view of the world. She was treated as an overly delicate flower. As a result, she was ignorant and sees the world around them in pure fascination. In that case, he intends to give her that even in small drops. Although, he would not deny it that she had grown from an adorable little girl to a beautiful young lady in the past years. It is no secret to him that she held special feelings for him but he believes it is similar to a little chick towards its mother before it could take flight.

That is why Yoshio was quite curious about what Cassiopeia is like now. However, it was not the only reason he readily agreed to meet her. "Yoshio, I would like to say that I am sorry for bothering you with meeting me today." She said after taking a bite of her melon bread. Aeon told her beforehand that Yoshio was due to leave the country again for two weeks. There was a business deal needing to be handled overseas. Right now, it was his last two days in this country and his rare free day was given to her. Somehow, she felt that it was due to Aeon's doing. The thought made her smile with lingering care. "Don't apologize. I was actually planning to see you when I found out you're here in Japan. So even if you didn't invite me first, I would have sought you out." He gave her an assuring smile. "Actually, I should be the one to apologize. I've been traveling all over the world and now I'm back here, I get to only spend a day with you." The is the truth. His work required constant travel even though his main residence is in Japan, he is barely at home. That is why it was a pleasant surprise when he found out that she was studying here and then eventually got a call about meeting her.

The call, however, did not come from Cassiopeia though. Yoshio found it odd that it was a stranger asking but when it was said that it was in behalf of Aeon. He finally understood. The two children whom he taught once upon a time still remained good friends. He would not be surprised if the two were a couple now. They are a good match for each other. "I am glad to hear that. Uhm so, how have you been?" She started the conversation as they walked along the concrete path. "I'm actually doing great! Work is good and everything is in perspective. How about you?" From his eyes, she could tell that he is indeed happy about where he is in his life. A sense of envy brewed inside her but it disappeared with her next statement. "That sounds lovely. I am good too. I never thought I would be able to get out of Greece and study here in Japan. It is certainly a new experience, but it is definitely fun and worth it." He was happy to hear those words even if it was just a little thing, her world is expanding. "Which school are you attending?"

Cassiopeia answered with pride, "Airdalen! It is really a wonderful place!" Yoshio nodded with approval. "That is a good school. I guess it is a no-brainer for you to attend that one. Are you part of a club?" If he would guess, he was expecting her to join a booklover's club or an adventuring one. She had always buried herself in books and happily discussed its contents with him. Then on some days when she is allowed outside, she would drag him to do some silly adventures she read about. "Yes. I joined the Kyūdō club and the band club." That was interesting and surprising. He did recall hearing that she plays an instrument but for archery, he remembered when she tried playing dodgeball. There was no need to dodge. You can just stand there which translates she does not have the best aim. Then again, things do change. "I didn't expect that but you seemed to be having fun." She nodded happily at that. "Yes! Everyone at the band club is very nice and then at Kyūdō, Aeon is there." Well, that certainly makes sense now as he listened with a smile. "I also have a wonderful Junior that I'm paired with. It's a school program, you see. His name is Akira Blake."

The stories about school continued as Cassiopeia happily shared them. "I am happy for you. The shine in your eyes is definitely brighter than the last time we met." Yoshio noted as he glanced at her from the side. The rim of his glasses caught light making it alluringly shine. It gave his form an immaculate presentation and along with his words effectively made her blush. To avoid getting embarrassed more, she stuffed herself with the melon bread. Her reaction was adorable in its untainted nature and he could not help but see her as a cute animal acting all bashful. She may be considered as an adult but she is still that adorable little girl from the past. He remembered how attached she was to him. That little girl who would look at him like he was the whole world. Somehow, he felt envious of Aeon who probably held her heart. "Let's see, since this is my only free day. You have to pay me back." Hearing that she perked up and looked at him questioningly. "Pay you back? How would I do that?"

ImageYoshio had a thoughtful look for a moment and then his eyes settled at a scene behind Cassiopeia. "There. Accompany me, no complaints." She looked behind her and saw an amusement park and then looked back at him who had a rather fun grin on his face. "Are you sure? That is all?" She was not sure if that was really enough due to her hogging all of his free time. However, his grin gently changed into of gentleness and the hand he was holding was raised to his lips. "This as well, princess." He placed a fleeting kiss at the back of her hand then covered it with his other as if sealing the emotion within. His eyes shining with gaiety looked at her through his eyeglasses as he even playfully winked. At that very moment, it felt like an arrow shot through her heart. Her voice was caught in an invisible lock and her emotions were in chaos. But to the outside world, she appeared frozen and he took that as consent. It seemed that she has little resistance towards such gestures. Aeon must not be doing it a lot, these flirty advances. Well, this was just harmless fun between them. After all, they are just friends. And so, he led her inside the park to make good on that payback.

It had been discussed that Fuyuki would be staying longer than he expected, with his grandmother immediately jumping to being a wonderful hostess finding out who his senior (Fuyuki) was. Not that he minded, it was just sudden and unexpected since that also meant he would be staying in his room at his grandmother’s house. Personally, all Bishop wanted to do was be at his own house and play some video games and relax; sort of hide away from the rest of the world after this bad week. He was fast asleep while Fuyuki was outside blessing his long time family home.

However, the young priestess wouldn’t be as alone as she previously had thought. Out of the corner of the garden watched his aunt, Musubi. She wore a gi and quietly watched the dance and routine of Fuyuki having a basic understanding of what was going on. She wouldn’t interrupt, just quietly made her way inside the family hall to begin her own training when Fuyuki was halfway through her routine. By every member of the family, Fuyuki[/u[ was more than welcomed to be amongst them, it was always nice to meet friends of their little Bishop.

When [u]Fuyuki
stepped inside, she’d be met with the smell of breakfast being cooked. The grandmother was in the kitchen, quietly preparing what some would consider a decent sized breakfast but they had company as well; her grandson ate a lot of food. ”You’re up early dear.” On the table already set was tea put out, hot and ready to be savored. ”I had a feeling that you were an early riser, much like my grandson- when he wants to be.” She chuckled quietly to herself and continued to scramble the eggs in the pan. When Fuyuki asked, Saito would simply nod. ”Someone needs to wake the boy up, he has Sunday to sleep in. Today he has a guest to host.” Essentially giving the young maiden permission to go to Bishop’s room and wake him up. ”If he doesn’t wake up the first time, just tell him I’m making his favorite scramble.” his grandmother would leave her to it, whichever method she decided to wake her young kohai up.

Bishop remained completely passed out in his bed. The sheets were a mess, he hung halfway out of the sheets laying on his back only wearing boxers as pajamas. He'd be in for quite the awakening.
