Description

Name: Nathan Atery

Gender: Male

Age: 16

Appearance:

Nathan is a classic pretty boy standing at 5'6 and weighing 120, making him look weaker that he actually is. Nathan has brown curly hair and green puppy dog eyes, his skin is rather pale, but not ghostly white. Most of the time he's got a helpless, curious or puppy dog look on his face, which he uses to seem small and defenseless.

Personality: Nathan has a double sided personality. When he's out in public he usually looks down and tries to act as though he has no idea of what is going on around him. When he walks he tries to look like a fragile piece of glass so that people will leave him alone. On occasion when he has to look at a women he usually has his big puppy dog eyes on trying to look cute. Most of the time it will get a small or big reaction out of them, be it good or bad.

On the contrary when he is alone he acts tough and determined. Usually when he is alone he will plot and plan as well as work on his sword techniques. If not he will read about history or other useful information. His plan is to one day make the world equal.

History: Nathan has always been small so growing up he had to be smart and quick thinking. When he was eight Nathan was brought to the slave market to be sold. Being that he was small and scrawny no body really wanted him, except one old women in the crowd. The old women lived a humble life style and didn't have much money to spend.

After being bought Nathan was brought to her home in the country side and found out her name was Linda Atery. Nathan soon figured out that she wasn't like most other women. Linda was always nice to him, at first Nathan thought it was because they were far out in the country and she thought it would be bad if he hated her. Over time though he began to understand her, she had seen a lot of hatred in the world and didn't want to brew more of it.

As time went on Nathan began to trust her more and more. She was always nice to him and he always respected her. One day Nathan had seen her writing and Nathan wondered what it was, once she told him he asked if she would teach him. So she did and Nathan made sure too listen to every word. He was able to learn to read and write as well as about history and math.

One day four years later Linda got sick and Nathan brought her in to see what was wrong with her. It turned out that she was going to die. Before she die though Linda gave him the small necklace she always wore before she past. Ever since then he has treasured the necklace. Once Linda die Nathan was sold to a young warrior how hated men and he seen how mean women could be. He was constantly picked on and lashed because he wasn't used to the new life style. Over time he learned if he kept his head down and listened he would usually be left alone. Nathan didn't want that though so he always watches and listens for any piece of useful information, including watching carefully when his owner is practicing her sword techniques.

It was like a dream, floating and feeling the soft air flow through her fingertips. Oh wait...this was a dream. Maya knew this as well as her conscious. But what what wrong with dreaming? Nothing. Because one moment your falling on clouds the next you wake to the bright sun, Maya hated this feeling and she wished as everyone else did that she could dream forever for this was the place most sacred to her. No one could enter her mind in this state and for once she could get her imagination to turn it's clocks without having to have them be shut off by her mother, for her imagination was crushed when she was but a child. Maya woke to the bright sun, groaning as she tossed and turned over in her soft feathery bed. Sweat beaded on her forehead as she realized her dream wasn't as great as it would have seemed. Maya shook the thought away perhaps it was just the sun heating her skin? As it normally did. Maya knew she was one of the tannest girls in Myru but it was just the hours of training and hunting she had done to make herself this way. Maya's self conscious told her to get up but she could stay in her bed all day if she wished and she did very much wish she could stay. But just as she was about to fall back asleep a sharp knock on the door made her narrow her eyes over at it, a grumble turned into a sigh. "What is it?!" she grumbled as the sharp knocking sounded again. Before Maya could even straighten her mother enterered the room, her eyes narrowed, her chin pointed in the highly directed way, as her eyes drifted on her still waking daughter. Two slaves entered the room, one a dark skinned man that was Maya's slave the other was The Empress's. "Mother? Why do you wake me so early in the morning?" Maya grumbled, covering her self with the sheets as the slaves and her mother entered. The Empress crossed her arms, clearly not amused. "You were suppose to take the hunt patrol out this morning and yet you lay sprawled on your bed like you just fought a war." Her mother said in her high shrill voice. Maya sighed and brushed an annoying piece of hair out of her face, "It feels like I've been fighting a war." she mumbled under her breath, her mother narrowed her eyes and raised a hand to slap Maya but instead clenched her teeth. "Just get dressed and meet me downstairs when your done." she growled and went out of the room. Maya's slave stayed in the doorway watching her with curious dark eyes. "Your dismissed. I don't need help getting dressed." Maya growled and the slave bowed his head and left the room silently. As soon as the door was shut Maya stretched and got herself up and out of the bed, she didn't feel like denying her mother this morning as she grabbed a light chainmill shirt, she quickly put the chain mill over her undergarments and then put a tight pair of leather pants. It wasn't much but it would do for today. She quickly put her hair up into a small bun, looking at herself in the mirror. With a shrug she quickly put on her boots and dispersed down the stairs. "Now what is it?" Maya demanded looking her mother up and down. The Empress took a quick glance over at Maya, doing the same. "Go and do your duties, the patrol is waiting to be taken out." The Empress said with her head tilted high. Maya raised a hand and rubbed the back of her neck. "Yes, Empress." Maya said with a bow, she quickly left the castle she hated so much and before going to where the patrol was she entered the blacksmith's part of the shop. The woman worked quickly and swiftly on a nice looking sword. She looked up, "Why good morning, Maya. What can I do for you?" she asked calmly. A young man came in with a few daggers and sat them down, looking up at Maya but not looking her in the eye. He quickly dismissed himself with a bow from the room and the blacksmith narrowed her eyes but said nothing. Maya looked back at the woman, "You made the belt I presume?" she asked calmly. The blacksmith nodded and handed her a fine black belt with silver edging. Maya smiled at the work and quickly wrapped it around her chain mill, she placed the scabbard and sword in it's place on the belt and did a twirl, the belt looked good. The blacksmith nodded with a smile. "Looks great." she commented. Maya nodded and thanked the Blacksmith as she quickly left the shop, Maya headed towards the patrol, nodding politely to other women as she passed.

Nathan woke with a start as he was kicked in the ribs by his mistress. That was one thing that always bothered him. Most women would tend to be just a touch gentler with him, because he looked small and fragile kind of like a puppy. Not her though she didn't care about that at all, much to his dismay. To add to the kick he woke up even more sore than usual. Last night he had spent a couple of hours practicing the new sword technique he had seen his mistress use, as well as work on some new techniques he was developing for himself. "Time to get up slave." She said. Quickly Nathan got up and asked "Is there anything you need mistress."

"Yeah get the stuff ready we're leaving in a couple of minutes."

Nathan went off and did as we was told packing up the bags as quickly as he could. He put all of there stuff into two bags making his own much heavier than his mistresses, or else she would get mad. Once finished he covered the fire pit they had used last night and went to go see if his mistress was ready to leave. He quickly found her practicing her sword techniques in the same field he had used last night. Like usual he watched her very closely while trying to look like he wasn't. Comparing her moves to his, he thought that he was slightly faster in executing the moves, but couldn't get one to flow to the next like she did.

After finishing her morning practice, she walked by him grabbed her bag and headed off. Nathan quickly grabbed his own and caught up with her making sure to stay a couple of steps behind her. It always bugged him when he had to walk behind his mistress being that she was both bigger and taller than him it always made him feel even more insignificant than it already did.

After walking for what seemed like a couple of hours, Nathan and his mistress arrived at a town. They stopped by a couple of shops to sell the hides of the animals she had killed and to do some trading with the local merchants. After a couple of hours she had put quick a lot of money in her pocket. While walking around she spotted a small shop that said "fortune telling" on the front. Deciding that she had enough money she figured she would check it out.

Once inside she went to the front desk and talked with the shop keeper. Nathan looked at the shop keeper while she and his mistress talked. The first thing he noticed was that she was smaller than he was and had a very cute face. From a glance he thought that she didn't look to much older than he was. He tried to make sure he wasn't caught looking at her beautiful brown eyes while his mistress and her talked.

The chimes hanging on the door tinkle merrily, jarring Gwendolyn out of her stupor. She quickly stands up and smiles at the new customer. "Welcome to Gwen's Cranny. How may I help you today?" The woman steps in with a slave trailing behind her. He seems to be staring into space but taking in every detail at the same time.

"I'd like a quick read," the woman says brusquely.

"Of course," Gwendolyn replies coolly as she leads the woman and the slave deeper into the store. "That will be 100 silver in total. Please pay half the amount now and the other half if you are satisfied with your reading."

She gestures for the customer to sit down on a plush velvet seat, leaving the curious slave standing in one corner of the room, and draws out a stack of tarot cards from a velvet pouch, shuffling as she speaks. Her client withdraws a pouch of coins and hands it over to Gwendolyn as she fans the cards out over the table.

"Please choose three cards. The first will represent the past; the second will be the present; the third will represent the future," she states, nodding her head in acknowledgement of the money received.

The client sitting in front of her nods and withdraws the following three cards.

"Hmmm," Gwen starts after a few moments. "The ten of pentacles shows that you never had many money problems when you were a child, and that continues to this day." She points to another card with a pentacle symbol on it. "However, this page of pentacles is reversed, showing that your future isn't going to be as secure; in fact, this page is a bringer of bad luck and also means that betrayal is amongst you." Gwen watches as her client's eyes narrow with annoyance and inwardly rolls her eyes. What did this person expect? Not everyone has a happy ending.

"Lastly," Gwen continues in a professional tone and points to the second card, "the reversed ace of cups, your present, shows that your current status is shaky. Though you may be successful now, you may not be in the future, and your future does lean toward failure."

She could see the customer visibly shaking with rage, face redder than a tomato. "H-how dare you suggest such a thing?!"

"I'm sorry, but you chose these cards. I just interpret them," she replies simply.

"Why-you-I..." she stammers before shutting her mouth and storming out of the shop without paying for the rest of the reading.

Gwen watches her run out of the store, raising one curious eyebrow at the slave who still lingered around.

Nathan was waiting while his mistress and the fortune teller talked. He patiently looked around observing the store. He could tell from the decorations and how clean it was that the women didn't have a problem with money. After observing the store for awhile he followed the women into the back. He closely listened to there conversation. The reading would be 100 silver in total with 50 in advance. It seemed like a fair price not to much but not to little either. She had his mistress sit down so she could give her reading. The reading she gave was right on, they had had a lot of money problem before but were fine right now, but she was to be betrayed by someone, well he know who that would be. Her reading were so accurate it was scary and gave him goose bumps.

Nathan mistress however didn't like everything she was saying, got mad and stormed off without paying the second half of the bill. Nathan turned to the women how was raising an eyebrow at him and tried to figure out a way to apologies properly for his mistress.

"I Apologies for my mistresses behavior ma'am. If you could give me the name of your store I will tell my mistress for you that she forgot the second half of the bill." Nathan said as he bowed his head. He had read the sign when they had come in, but seeing as he shouldn't be able to read he didn't want to make a mistake and get caught just in case they did come back. He new that he might get struck later for this by his master, but didn't want too take a chance on the off chance that this women would go and tell the town guard to report them.

"I apologize for my mistress's behavior, ma'am. If you could give me the name of your store I will tell my mistress for you that she forgot the second half of the bill," the slave says while backing out of the store.

"Oh, no, it's quite alright," Gwendolyn hastily states before the slave could get too far. "The latter half of the payment is optional for those who enjoyed their reading. And obviously, it seems that your mistress didn't enjoy hers very much."

Though she was too focused on her client to notice before, Gwendolyn quickly realizes that this slave wasn't just any slave; he seems to be some sort of pet to his mistress, yet the lean muscle on his arms says otherwise. He continues bowing and backing away, frantically apologizing. The chimes hanging above the entrance clang wildly, having two people run out within seconds of each other.

"Well, have a nice day?" Gwendolyn says to the closing door. She sighs and walks over the the couch near the entrance to sit down, feeling herself sinking into the plush, soft velvet cushions.

What a day, she thought, while withdrawing a pack of cards she always kept on herself. She shuffles the deck like she normally does, not letting a single card loose. But as her thoughts strayed deeper into the recent predictions she made - most of which included betrayal and money problems - a card fluttered out of her hands and drifted to the ground. She quickly leans over to pick it up, sincerely praying that no customer would walk in and see how unprofessional she was. Honestly, how can such a skilled fortune teller drop the tool of her trade?

As she flips the card upright again, she gasps, seeing the ominous card and deciphering the meaning behind it.

The Ten of Swords.
