Image

Personality: Shy and lacking in self esteem, Umber has always served his sister and his superiors, the women, with passive servitude. However, he values
his sister above the others, willing to do anything for her. Even then, he secretly wishes for change, and slowly prepares to gain the courage to help with it.

Bio/History: Has been looked down on more than some other slaves because of the circumstances of his birth. His mother, a brave warrior, had been
pregnant with both Umber and his sister Lumina. Complications had arose during childbirth, leading to the mother's death soon after he was born. Naturally,
since his sister was born first, the cause of the mother's death was his responsibility to bear, leading the other warriors to treat him worse than the other slaves. In the recent years, he had found out of the rebellion and was willing to lend a hand in it's machinations.

Rank: Slave

Famiy:
Lumina Noxford (Sister)
Karan Noxford (Mother)
Father (Unknown)

Other: Though Umber's sister doesn't treat him in the kindest manner, he still values her above all others.

So begins...

It was like a dream, floating and feeling the soft air flow through her fingertips. Oh wait...this was a dream. Maya knew this as well as her conscious. But what what wrong with dreaming? Nothing. Because one moment your falling on clouds the next you wake to the bright sun, Maya hated this feeling and she wished as everyone else did that she could dream forever for this was the place most sacred to her. No one could enter her mind in this state and for once she could get her imagination to turn it's clocks without having to have them be shut off by her mother, for her imagination was crushed when she was but a child. Maya woke to the bright sun, groaning as she tossed and turned over in her soft feathery bed. Sweat beaded on her forehead as she realized her dream wasn't as great as it would have seemed. Maya shook the thought away perhaps it was just the sun heating her skin? As it normally did. Maya knew she was one of the tannest girls in Myru but it was just the hours of training and hunting she had done to make herself this way. Maya's self conscious told her to get up but she could stay in her bed all day if she wished and she did very much wish she could stay. But just as she was about to fall back asleep a sharp knock on the door made her narrow her eyes over at it, a grumble turned into a sigh. "What is it?!" she grumbled as the sharp knocking sounded again. Before Maya could even straighten her mother enterered the room, her eyes narrowed, her chin pointed in the highly directed way, as her eyes drifted on her still waking daughter. Two slaves entered the room, one a dark skinned man that was Maya's slave the other was The Empress's. "Mother? Why do you wake me so early in the morning?" Maya grumbled, covering her self with the sheets as the slaves and her mother entered. The Empress crossed her arms, clearly not amused. "You were suppose to take the hunt patrol out this morning and yet you lay sprawled on your bed like you just fought a war." Her mother said in her high shrill voice. Maya sighed and brushed an annoying piece of hair out of her face, "It feels like I've been fighting a war." she mumbled under her breath, her mother narrowed her eyes and raised a hand to slap Maya but instead clenched her teeth. "Just get dressed and meet me downstairs when your done." she growled and went out of the room. Maya's slave stayed in the doorway watching her with curious dark eyes. "Your dismissed. I don't need help getting dressed." Maya growled and the slave bowed his head and left the room silently. As soon as the door was shut Maya stretched and got herself up and out of the bed, she didn't feel like denying her mother this morning as she grabbed a light chainmill shirt, she quickly put the chain mill over her undergarments and then put a tight pair of leather pants. It wasn't much but it would do for today. She quickly put her hair up into a small bun, looking at herself in the mirror. With a shrug she quickly put on her boots and dispersed down the stairs. "Now what is it?" Maya demanded looking her mother up and down. The Empress took a quick glance over at Maya, doing the same. "Go and do your duties, the patrol is waiting to be taken out." The Empress said with her head tilted high. Maya raised a hand and rubbed the back of her neck. "Yes, Empress." Maya said with a bow, she quickly left the castle she hated so much and before going to where the patrol was she entered the blacksmith's part of the shop. The woman worked quickly and swiftly on a nice looking sword. She looked up, "Why good morning, Maya. What can I do for you?" she asked calmly. A young man came in with a few daggers and sat them down, looking up at Maya but not looking her in the eye. He quickly dismissed himself with a bow from the room and the blacksmith narrowed her eyes but said nothing. Maya looked back at the woman, "You made the belt I presume?" she asked calmly. The blacksmith nodded and handed her a fine black belt with silver edging. Maya smiled at the work and quickly wrapped it around her chain mill, she placed the scabbard and sword in it's place on the belt and did a twirl, the belt looked good. The blacksmith nodded with a smile. "Looks great." she commented. Maya nodded and thanked the Blacksmith as she quickly left the shop, Maya headed towards the patrol, nodding politely to other women as she passed.

Umber knocked on his mistress' door gently. The servant was young and handsome, however his skin was fair and light, contrasted by his dark brown hair. "Breakfast is served milady." He called out, respectful as ever. It never mattered though. His mistress was never in a good mood.

"I refuse to be rushed by you slave! I shall be out when I am out!" The mistress screamed.

Annoyance was splayed across his face just yesterday he had been chewed out for not fetching her for breakfast. And the day before he had been chastised for waking her up. And the day before, and the day before...there was no winning with this woman. Umber simply resigned that his was a life of complete and utter misery. "Very good." Was all he said as he left, making his way back downstairs towards the kitchen.

His dear sister was there, eating a wealthy serving of fried pigs meat and rice. "Is she up yet?" Lumina asked, raising her head. Her chocolate brown hair softly glowed in the sunlight that flooded the room, framing her gentle face quite nicely. She was already donned in her armor, which consisted of a breastplate, leather vambraces and faulds, and sandals that wrapped up her legs. She was definitely ready to head towards the training grounds again. "I want to head to the fields early this time."

Umber simply looked back at her, his expression unchanged. "She said she would be on her way--"

No sooner had he said that however when he had heard his mistress screeching, a large lump of a person came tumbling down the stairs, crashing at the base on top of her knee. She howled in pain, her plump arms holding her knee. "Aunt Vivian! Are you okay?" Lumina asked, shocked and concerned.

"Of COURSE I'm not all right you twit!" She hollered, rage consuming her face. "Just HELP ME UP." Umber immediately went to her side as he attempted to lift the plump woman up, her dirty, frizzy hair puffing up in his face as he guided his mistress to a stool with great effort. She groaned loudly. "This is OBVIOUSLY your fault slave! How DARE you not assist me down those wretched floors!"

Obviously.

"I should have you hanged!"

Though it was now Lumina who stepped in, calming her aunt down. "Please Aunt Vivian, there was nothing he could have done. It was an accident. And you and I both know his worth as a slave, and won't be able to find any other as good as he."

This hurt deeply, Umber ashamed that his sister nonchalantly refers to him as a slave, while his aunt, sister to his now deceased mother, was his mistress who didn't even see him as a blood relative. "I shall go get the healer at once..."

"LUMINA. Go with the slave, make sure he does his damned job right!" Aunt Vivian ordered.

Lumina was quite upset. "But Aunt Vivian, you know I have training tod--" Vivian wasn't even going to have it. With a war cry of a warthog, she shrieked at them to leave her sight and immediately bring the local healer. Lumina and Umbra were soon out on the street, traveling to the medicine shack. The trip was painfully silent. Umber wanted to connect with his sister, who was his twin sibling by birth. Though because of their culture, though she does her best to defend him, she still sees him nothing more than a tool to be kept and maintained.

It wouldn't be long until Lumina would come across a familiar face in Jean the healer, who happened to be taking a stroll through the streets. "Ms. Jean!" Lumina called out and waved as she and Umber both approached. "Apologies for disturbing you, however my aunt is injured and unable to move. Would it be alright if you made...a house call of sorts?"

Jean Odyssey was looking around as she passed through the city. She saw many girls gathered around the bakery, all begging their mothers to buy them some "Cheesy Bread", which was a pretty popular item around town. Jean saw no interest in Cheesy Bread, for she thought it just made your breath smell horrid. It had no taste.

Jean held her breath before she passed the stables. The horses were lovely, but the sanitation at the stables certainly did not prevent smell.

Jean reached what she called the "cafeteria" of town. All of the food shops, not including the bakery, were located here. Tons of tables sat along the dirt road. To her, it was stupid that they laid out the food next to the smelly horses. Maybe she could be a builder and convince them that their layout was quite idiotic. Interrupting her thoughts was a rumble from Jean's stomach. Jean looked around, pondering on how to spend her three coins. She decided to get food later and she continued her stroll.

As she moved away from the food shops, someone called out her name. She turned to see Lumina Noxford and her brother approaching. Lumina asked her to make a house call.
"Yes, of course!" she said, running her fingers through her hair. "I'll probably want to see the injury before I get my things, though. But, you caught me at a good time. Let's go!" she said, smiling.

(Sorry, problems abound -_-;;;)

Umber and Lumina quickly guided Jean the healer back to their house, wading through the crowd and taking shortcuts through alleyways. They wouldn't be in such a hurry except it was Aunt Vivian. More than anything she hated to be kept waiting, both siblings knew this. "Please excuse the inconvenience Mistress Jean..." Umber spoke, his tone genial as ever. "I do not like to incur my Mistress Vivian's wrath...well. Anymore so than usual."

Lumina soon opened the door, Vivian turning her head as she was still on the stool. In the time they had gone, her knee had already begun to swell and was very bruised. "What in the GODDESS' name took you so long?!" Vivian screamed, her arms hugging her knee, barely keeping balance on the stool. "I feel as if I may die here in my own home!"

Melodramatic windbag... Umber sighed as he showed Jean to her aunt and pulled a separate stool for her to sit on, next to his crippled mistress. "I shall be available when you need me." He bowed and tended to the chores through the house. Vivian but scoffed and shooed him away.

Lumina however was a bit in a rush. "I'm sorry, but I really must be going. I shall see you later Aunt Vivian, Umber." And with that Lumina grabbed her sheath and shield as she made her way through the crowd once more, rushing to the training grounds where she was most definitely tardy. Again.

Jean kneeled beside the old woman. She put her two fingers to the woman's wrinkly neck. Her heart was pounding and she was obviously exhausted from the fall. Jean tentatively wrapped her hands around the knee. That's when Lumina left, leaving her, Lumina's aunt, and her brother alone. Jean turned to the boy.

"Do you have any pain killer?" she asked him. "It's nothing major, just an out of place knee. I can easily pop it back in without any equipment. I don't even really need pain killer, but if you have any it might be better. She will feel some discomfort."
She turned back to the aunt who seemed to be giving the boy a "death stare". Jean tried not to roll her eyes. People were so sexist these days it wasn't even funny.

Feeling the knee, ignoring the yelps of pain from the woman, she found the spot where she needed to pop it back in. Just as she tried to brace the woman, she noticed rain clouds rolling in. I best hurry she thought.
