Ka'Wa Jekund

A warrior who persists through her collapse.

0 · 2,041 views · located in The Snapa-verse

a character in “Nomad Clan”, as played by Light_of_the_Fallen

Description

"I believe."

ImageName: Ka'Wa (kA-wah) Jekund (jeh-kUh-nd), "Ka" for short.
Sex: Female
Age: 28

Physical Description: Ka'Wa is a broad shouldered woman with thick thighs and a round stomach, giving her yet another reason to sigh when its time to don her armor once more. Her dry skin is often darker but Ka hasn't seen much sun in a while. She also has a broad nose and lacks any discernible scars that could be a result of a fight. Rather, the few scars on her thighs and upper arms look to have been carved with purpose.
Clothing: Often, Ka will only use a few pieces of her armor such as the gloves and boots when out in public. The rest of her armor is typically sitting in a corner at home since she sees no reason to carry it out. Sometimes however, she will be seen with a large backpack though the reason she gives for this is that she's training by carrying extra weight on her back. Its sporadic when she does so however. Otherwise, she wears plain dark colored clothes, suspected to be man's clothing, that hang loosely upon her. Her armor is plain and adorned on the knees and upper chest with the obscure symbol of her clan, two circles, a smaller within a bigger one, with arrows coming from the little one to pierce through the bigger circle.
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 215 lbs.
Skin Colour: copperish
Hair Colour: black
Eye Colour: dark brown

Occupation: Helper of a food vendor
History/Bio:Born into a poor family, Ka'Wa knew few luxuries when young but her parent's efforts led her to know more as she grew older. At the very least, she made it to where they could be comfortable, though nowhere near the well endowed state her clan had once claimed. Through all this time, their effort was to make sure Ka'Wa didn't know the hunger and despair her parents had known. She knew just a taste for they were young when they had her and thus could not provide her with adequate food and shelter at first. However, they could not provide her with much attention or affection and thus, Ka learned how to manage on her own with a need for affection that she sought out of others.
Hard working, Ka went to work at shops though her parents constantly reminded her that their sacrifice was so she could surpass the shop, eventually becoming a recognized warrior as her clan was once made of. There were other children, a few who were well known warriors, that she was constantly pitted against although unintentionally. Even after her father's death, Ka'Wa remained frozen in her life, unable to escape the sands of mediocrity and failed expectations.
Home Town: Dol-Duna
Native Clan: Saule Clan
Population: 986
Settlements: There are two settlements, though small, that the Shams clan does claim. One is known as the Baclas and the other, Sterakl. They are small, about 150 people in each.
Location: Sea of Sand
Description: Made of proud people, the Saule clan was once known as a clan of great respect and wealth. They were warriors who made many advancements on their own until they were invaded by the Somolon clan and reduced greatly. Few people remain and are scattered, often moving to find better opportunities for their children. The hope of the clan is to once again, be known as a great warrior clan. They are strong believes in a deity known as the Sun's Warrior (pictured below) who is said to bless warriors who constantly work under the sun towards a brighter future. They believe that even if the sun burns their skin and makes them weak, it is for their own good to become stronger for the sun is light and warmth. To show weakness, to show frailty, is to rouse anger and disappointment. The Saule clan believes that those who do should lie in the hot sands to become that which stronger warriors can walk on.
Because of their size, they have leaders in the two settlements but otherwise, dictate themselves because of the scattered numbers. If there is a handful in a near proximity, they will ultimately choose a leader to confer with and monitor the progress of future generations.

Personality:Ka at least conducts herself to her clan's expectations by being a bright and smiling woman. She constantly makes self deprecating jokes and prefers to listen, rather than talk. She appears to be very sympathetic and doesn't like saying no. However, despite her warmth, she is very aloof and doesn't like to get involved in any type of conflict. She craves affection and attention but doesn't actively seek it out. Instead, she passively mentions something that brings attention to her and is often very flirtatious but doesn't follow through if more comes as a result of her flirtations.
Fears and Desires: Ka is afraid of disappointment and rejections from people she cares about. She often finds herself laying down and thinking about the sands of her people, unable to do more at times. Ka is afraid of her limitations and very insecure about herself but even more scared of showing it. Her desires are constant love, affection, and to be a suitable warrior of her people.

Equipment and Weapons: She has a plan set of armor with the crest of her people. Her weapon is a dull sword her father once owned.
Styles and Abilities: Her style is very straightforward, lacking any tactical knowledge or special skills.

She could feel it still stirring within her, just a feeling, but one that stirred her soul and mind. The body had long forsaken her and the mind attacked relentlessly as it saw endless opportunity to do so. Even her soul, that shining light, was but a mere flicker dancing with the wind until it grew weary and went out.

What to call that feeling though?

Licking her cracked lips, the armor she wore creaked as she moved her head across the sand. Heat burst forth and tickled her ear, her nose, and finally settled upon the other side of her face as she placed it upon the cooling sand. The sun was bright. Bright, annoyingly so, but she looked upon it for a few seconds before shutting her eyes once more. The outline of what she saw still lingered behind her eyelids, purple and green among bursting red.

It lingered like the feeling.

The feeling was not contentment for it urged her to get up from where she lay. It was not satisfaction because it said that there was much ground to cover. It was not joy because the end was not something it was ready to greet just yet.

It was restlessness, it was relentless, and it was her last bit of humanity.

"Thank you very much sir, have a good day!" Ka'Wa said as the customer took the sweetened fruit in his hand and walked away. Her smile, bright and wide, remained on her face as she saw more customers were coming. Dekavi beside her, the shop owner, told her to get some more of the Summer Bizarre special treats from crates in the back of the stall. Ka'Wa nodded and headed to the back, her smile lingering but quite so wide or bright as she had worn it previously. Her hands reached into the crates, pushing aside some of the regular apples and such to get to the decorated items they had brought.

It was nice to get out of the established shop once in a while and the Summer Bizarre was one of the few times of the year she could do so. Instead of their regular stream of customers, there were sporadic amounts and she wasn't so pressed to look busy. Instead, she could relax and take her time except when a rush came. Considering their stall was in the middle of it all, rushes did come but she worked fast and Dekavi had another boy who worked as well, the boy off getting something for them to eat. Ka'Wa sighed. She was thankful the owner decided to pay for her meal, not having to come up with an excuse as to why she wasn't hungry when her stomach gnawed at her.

Ka'Wa frowned but when she presented herself to the Bizarre once more, the smile had returned. There were customers waiting after all.

Uluru glanced over his shoulder, at the pink haired woman running that ran towards him, leading a pack of salamands right to them. "Not really," he shrugged at her question, casually punting a salamand who had gotten to close into a nearby wall, knocking it out. "You can do me a favor and try not to kill too many if you can manage it, though," Uluru spoke as he drew a crystal from a pouch on his belt and placed it into an indent in his glove, which began to glow with yellow streaks. Holding his hand out a yellow blast emitted from it, shocking two onrushing salamands, who fell swiftly to the ground. "They can be dangerous but.." he trailed off as another salamand leaped upon him, inspiring him to quickly roll backwards and draw out a boomerang from his belt, tossing it at the beast's stomach. The silver projectile launched it backwards and knocked it into a nearby fruit stand.

Uluru looked over and glanced at the woman at the stand, scratching the back of his head. "I, uh...sorry about that," he apologized. "But, unless you can handle yourself, you might want to pack your stand up. These things loved to get their hands on any grub they can eat..." he stated when, as if on cue, one salamand who had sneakily dug into her fruit stand and grotesquely began to crunch on a mound of strawberries, pulp dribbling from it's continuously drooling mouth. "Kind of like that.."

"My wares!" the stand owner screamed in rage as he swatted at the salamander, only to have his fingers chomped on. He screamed out in pain and Ka'Wa reached out for his arm without thinking and held it still even as he screeched violently in her ear. Ka frowned and pinched on the salamander's neck, the creature opening its mouth wider and letting her employer's fingers go. It wriggled in her hand and she held the squirming being out to the stranger, keeping a tight grip on it.

"How many of these are loose?" Ka'Wa asked with a frown as the owner tended to his wounds. She prayed the owner would be too preoccupied with his wounds to notice the burlap bag she was taking, intending to capture more of the salamanders heading to the stalls. "We don't have to close if we capture them, correct?"

"Don't know how many are out here..." Uluru grunted. "Looks as if someone tried to tame them and it didn't go the way they planned. I'm gonna guess...twenty? Give or take?" He frowned, shocking another one of the beasts. "I'm don't doubt that everything'll open up again once things are taken care of, but there's good trade in bringing them in dead or alive."

"Oh?" Ka'Wa asked, trying to keep her voice even. She shoved the salamander in the bag and stepped on another one approaching the stall, not enough to kill it however. Her weight alone made the little guy struggle to get out from underfoot. Slowly she reached down to get it, avoiding the snapping jaws as she tried to grab it by the neck too. "How much exactly?"

"Good amount of food, some water. More if you turn them in alive to the right people, but half the time that just ends up in predicaments like we're in now," Uluru waved his hand. "So..." he noted, looking off in the distance. "Good news is, it looks like you don't have much to worry about in regards to opening again..." he stated, pointing towards a woman sporting a limited amount of clothing, who had tied up a few of the beasts already. "Looks like the chaos is subsiding. Shame I couldn't nab more myself."

Whisper stepped back into the fray, her freshly poisoned blades at the ready. It wasn't a lethal dose, only enough to paralyze for a short time. "Well, to be honest, I don't want to kill any of them." She said as she slipped behind the fruit stall. Killing her things wasn't her style if it could be helped.

Keeping to the wreckage of the ruined stalls and half eaten fruit, she darted out when a beast came into her sight, quick to nick a leg and retreat before the thing could retaliate. It didn't take long for the poisons to take effect. A matter of seconds really, but one could never guess what a beasts instincts would allow them to do in that short time.

With most of the creatures in the area having been rounded up, it was a better matched fight in her favor. Still, she played cautiously, respecting the will of a creature to live and have freedom. Had they not attacked her first, she would have ignored them more than likely. While everything may be her business, what the insides of a Salamand looks like is not something she wanted to know.

"What in the world's goin' on here?" A voice spoke as he exited the bar. The grey-haired man, having taken his drink and exited, looked out at the scene before him. The corner of the marketplace where the Salamand's had gotten loose had paused in traffic, the citizen's standing back as the creature's were taken care of - leaving in the wake of the chaos a handful of odd characters. The man frowned, spotting his niece among them, kicking one the Salamand's to the ground.

"Boh!" The man, Uncle Andle called, stepping out of the bar entrance and toward the cleared out area of the Salamand attack. "You alright there?" He stepped forward, eyeballing the central figure's in the Salamand attack. A dark-skinned man, a woman with pink-hair, and a fruit vendor, trying to explain the chaos to a stall-owner apparently. In the distance a scantily clad woman with a bull's-skull on her head was wrangling the remain Salamand's. In a corner was a damaged pen, a woman taking care of an injured goat and a dancer helping her.

"Blasted thing's," Andle hissed, stepping on a Salamand crawling by his feet and smashing the life out of his lungs with his boot. "Is everyone alright?" He called out over the square, raising a hand to the strange cast of character's present. "My name's Uncle Andle, I'm here to help."

***

Sand. Sand everywhere.

"Search for the Change, go into the desert, easy they said- EASY," The man screamed, kicking his foot into a dune - only to get his foot stuck - sending him flying back down, ripping his leg unnaturally back as it did. He hit the edge of the dune, staring up into the blue sky. Not a cloud in sight. He breathed, exhaustedly - his once pristine black uniform in tatters, his boots ripped apart and filled with sand, and his wounds burning in the heat. This man was the Wetlands Traitor. And he began to cry.

He lay there, his foot still stuck in the side of the dune as he did - sand gently gliding over his body with the wind. He couldn't hear the sound of the Leviathan anymore. That was good at least. From his pocket the Traitor pulled out his prize - the cause of all this chaos - a small, golden idol - writing carved along it in a language long lost. "All for you..." He whispered.

After a few more moments of wallowing he rose, ripped his foot out of the dune, and began to trek again. Each mountain of sand seemed higher than the last, and over one came a million more. "I'm gonna die..." He said to the wind as he crawled on all fours up the dune. "There's not a town for-" The traitor paused, disbelieving at the sight that greeted him at the top of the dune. Far below him was a town - walls cornering in buildings, and music and crowds moving along a colourful main-street. The Traitor began to laugh in disbelief, leaping up and instantly falling down the dune, his body smashing as violently as it could down.

Ka suppressed a sigh and her grip on the burlap bag with the two writhing salamanders tightened. She smiled brightly at Uluru and held up the bag proudly.

She was about to say something when uncle Andle came into the scene.

"We're fine, I don't know about everyone else though," she spoke up before Davikal, the shop owner, exclaimed. "Some of my fruit got ruined by these things!"

"Er, yeah," Ka said sheepishly with an embarrassed smile. " we did incur a bit of damage to our wares"

"Thank ya', Boh," Uncle Andle sighed, giving an approving nod to his niece. "You did good - but what actually happened here?" Andle took a sip of his beer and stepped toward the Davikal - the shop owner chewing his employee out. "Let's just calm down there, they did nothing wrong - from my point of view whoever owns or let loose these beasts ought to pay." He glanced over to the women attending the goat's that were attacked. "They should pay for your loses too."

"They're just salamands," Uluru frowned as he wiped some salamand drool on his hand on a wall nearby. "Probably some stupid slaver, trying their hand at something they can't properly handle. Either way, seems to be over now," Uluru commented, noticing the shouts and commotion had seemed to dial down a little.

"I should hope so," Davikal said, disgruntled, as he started sorting his damaged wares. "But how will you find the person who caused this mess?"

"It seems like it," Ka commented on Uluru's statement. "At least no one got hurt."

"I did!" The owner exclaimed, waving his fingers in the air. "Damn things almost took my fingers!"

Musa was in the middle of an exchange when she heard the older man call to what was, apparently, the center of the Salamand Escape. After a brief moment of pause to glance at the toppled cages, of which she noticed earlier, she smiled to her waiting customer and completed the exchange. She placed her new item in a large, decorated pot beside her before standing and gently crossing her arms while her eyes focused. The golden orbs were sweeping the area and taking into note everything that had changed while she was preoccupied with what she now knew as Salamands. Where the name came from, she had no idea.

The cart from which the things escaped was in the middle of being propped back up, the mess that the creatures made of the surrounding shops was nearly cleaned up, but now there was a big space, onlookers creating the edges, that contained her and a handful of other people. Colorful people for that matter, visual and character wise. Her intrest peaked at the sight of antlers on an extremely tall and cloaked figure. Quietly she reached up to touch the black horn of her own adornment. Next was the armored figure, who's gilded designs made her think of her own red tattoos. Then the pink haired woman, who's locks made her feel a familiar uneasyness. Back in Trenn, black was the hair color of 98% of her people. But finally her eyes found that pesky dancer girl from her clan. Her eyebrows fell a bit. So she pesters the traders to come along but then she's nowhere to be found when the tent needs to be setup and stays out of sight when trouble arises.

Finding a better outlet for her attention, Musa's head tipped to the side as the man gave his name. "Hm. Uncle Andle.." She murmurs under her breath. She had no relationship with the man whatsoever but his name seemed fitting. Reaching up, she adjusted her Buffalo Skull and stepped over to the edge of her tent, giving a nod that everything was indeed okay. "Items of minimal value were lost but the fiends were captured." She moved her hip in the direction of the dismayed, red-skinned triplets.

Dustin had spotted one of those red little buggers and decided to chase it. The damned thing was running around causing a mess everywhere he went. The thing jumped from cart to cart, grabbing fruit to take massive bites out of only to through the remnant back at the Atzerii who was chasing him. How humiliating, he thought. First Sword of Kasselland and you're looking like a fool chasing this stupid thing.

He hadn't been aware of the small assortment of individuals ahead of him nor of the speed at which he was running. The thing was headed straight for that group of people. "Oh no you don't!" he shouted and lunged for critter, catching it in midair but took out the knees of some hooded individual amongst the them. Dustin wrestled the Salamand down until he had it in a hold where only its arms and legs could kick and claw around helplessly until he noticed where he was and who was around him, his eyes wide like a cave bat caught in torchlight.

Uncle Andle finished his mug of beer as Uluru was suddenly downed violently - a targeted hit.

"Well, damage done at least those responsible are put away," Andle sighed, watching with a smile as Boh helped a traveller out. "Regardless welcome to Dol-Duna," He said, turning to the rest of the group present as the crowds of bazaar began to pass by again, the scene with the salamands finished and done. "I don't know if you've ever been but... there's a lot to do. If you need any crystals I'm your man, Iconic Andle... just don't buy into any new gimmicks," Andle paused, as though remember a dark part of his past. "...And don't go to any Nomad tents, from what I heard the Naima clan is in town... they can be... dangerous."

Uluru brushed himself off, glancing over at Dustin. "Thanks for that," he noted wryly. "Might not want to hold onto that for too long...they tend to heat up," he pointed out as the salamand began to shake intensely.

He then turned to Andle, scratching the back of his head. "Dangerous? Why's that. Was hoping to visit some of the Nomad huts myself..."

Andle nodded and smiled. "The Nomads will change them." There was something sinister in his words.

He glanced over the group and nodded. "Well, glad to be of help," He gave a slight wave before stepping over to his niece.

"Uncle Andle himself," Uncle Andle introduced to the man. "Boh, who's your friend?"

Thessir could hear the man talking to him. He could also hear the sounds of general commotion outside. His mind was not with those events at that time. He was enthralled with his work, examining the crystal for flaws. He was also looking at the shape, determining just how exactly the gem should be cut and fit. While useless now the gem held great potential. This was no mere taqa crystal.

Alas it seemed the general chaos outside was not going to let up. Sidling a strap of his bag off one of his shoulders he swung it over and set his tools along with the gem inside. With those packed away he downed what water was left and rose from his seat. He ventured over to the doorway, close enough to see but not close enough to be too exposed to the light.

From what he could see what commotion there had been was resolved. There were many eccentric figured talking including the one he had sort of spoken with at the bar. He listened in on what was being said, following the talking at he stood safely tucked away in the tolerable shade of the indoors. He gave a sigh, annoyed with the sun's habit of taking it's time going down.

"I shouldn't be awake." He spoke mostly to himself in a low mumble. His dark, tired eyes peered into the scene ahead. At this point he was just killing time until the sun left. The night was the real time for him. A time to search for some leads towards the ancient cities he's heard about in his time among the outlanders.
