a character in “Nomad Clan”, as played by PirateofPie

Description

"To survive in these lands, you do what you have to"

Image
Name: Uluru
Sex: Male
Age: 39

Physical Description: A dark skinned man with tall stature and an alert demeanor, Uluru is fairly well built, clearly one who has traversed a good deal of the Sea of Sand's dangerous sands before. A prematurely graying ponytail of dreadlocks and a worn expression on his face oftentimes makes him seem older than he actually is. He has a shave beard, with cuts around his chin that suggest, he often does the shaving himself, and not without mishap.
Clothing: White and blue scale-like material acts as body armor for Uluru. On his hands he sports thicker armored white gloves with jagged black circuitry acting as stripes and odd indentures on the back, meant to be used to fit crystals into He sports a brown cloak to shield him from sandstorms and other temperamental weather phenomenons of the Sea of Sand. A mask, resembling a welding mask hangs from his neck. When the weather gets especially rough he puts it on for extra protection. A blue sash is tied around his waist, holstering a variety of weapons and gadgets on his person.
Height: 6'3
Weight: 243
Skin Colour: Dark brown
Hair Colour: Black and gray
Eye Colour: Brown

Occupation: Monster Slayer
History/Bio: A man who has traversed the Sea of Sand for quite some time, occasionally traveling alone and occasionally alongside caravans, Uluru has found a living for himself by making the use of the unique skills he acquired during his tenure at the university. Skills of survival and how to fend off the various creatures that roam the desert and prey on the unsuspecting. There was good trade to be had in the pelts, eyes, horns, and other various body parts of these monsters, as well as many a grateful settlement willing to pay handsomely in food and drink in return for their continued well being. Caravans often hired him as a bodyguard in order for him for that very same reason and he gladly accepted.

And while the food and drink was more than welcome, Uluru did not choose to leave the safety of the university for no particular reason...he was searching for something. Someone perhaps. Why else would he leave a haven so safe? Normally a talkative sort if one gets him going, although one would not guess that from looking at him, any who caught him alone would see him staring into the night sky, contemplative and pensive, wondering where it all went wrong...
Home Town: The Solemn Shores- a massive sprawling settlement along the coast of the Toxic Sea,
Native Clan: The University
Population: Around 7300
Settlements: The Solemn Shores, which itself is a sizable chunk of the Toxic Sea's shoreline.
Location: The coast of the Toxic Sea
Description: From it's inception just around eighty years ago, the University has been a bastion of learning in the Sea of Sand. Though knowledge of the old world had long been lost and forgotten, a gathering a of studious minds determined that thorough knowledge of the world and it's secrets would be the key to bringing a sense of education and wonder and in a world where such virtues were often forgotten. These studious minds labored for two decades, fortifying and securing an area many had claimed inhospitable and shaping it for their own use. Now where was once an ominous dunes of sand lies a massive building in the center of a impressive array of settlements and houses, guarded by a massive stone wall that encompasses the settlement.

A thriving community dedicated to teaching survival in the sands and the importance of the procurement and study of Taqa Crystals and anything pertaining to the Old World. Though it is well known along the eastern Sea of Sand, in the west, denizens of the desert are likely not to have heard much of it other than the name and the fact that it's some sort of school.

Personality: Uluru's general demeanor and attitude aren't quite what one expects from an honored graduate of the university. He speaks frankly and can be very talkative at that, he doesn't quite hesitate to say the first thing that comes to mind, though one always gets the feeling he's holding something back. Regrets, perhaps? He tends to find the humor in odd situations, often reacting with wry amusement, possibly from a a countless amount of time spent wandering the hazardous environments. Despite being a slayer of monsters and beasts, he does not find any particular joy in killing them ,seeing it only as a job.In fact he seems to have a fondness for the creatures of the sands, enjoying discovering what little of nature can thrive in these harsh lands, including people. More than anything he's impressed by the human tenacity even in the harshest of lands.

He can be a bit belligerent around others can put his own goals ahead of others. He has a big interest in learning about the lands surrounding the Sea of Sand and their various cultures.
Fears and Desires: His fear and desire revolve around each other. He doesn't want to lose track of whatever he's searching for our in the west for he cannot or will not return home without it and of course he desires to find any clue that can bring him closer to what he seeks. Another desire of his is knowledge about the various cultures that surround the sea of sand, but our otherwise complete unknowns to the denizens of the desert.

Equipment and Weapons:Sports a incision in his gloves that, with a crystals fitted inside, causes the black lines of circuitry to glow yellow and fire out a stunning burst of bio-electricity from afar. He also wields a scimitar for close ranged fighting. his belt is lined with numerous cloth pouches. Half of which store crystals that are augmented to act as grenades with various attributes. The other half are essentially poisons made from a mishmash of rare desert vegetation and the remains of his quarry. As far as other weapons goes, he has a pair of metallic silver boomerangs made of an mineral found in several mines near the University.

Not quite equipment either but he also has a mount. Yanyan, a sand ray, a giant fish-like creature the size of a horse that levitates off of the ground, providing Uluru with transport, though it's not particularly fast. It also acts as his personal messenger, carrying the pelts of various monsters he's killed to those who wanted them dead and returning to Uluru with the bounty.
Styles and Abilities: Uluru fights tactically, often planting traps and various other tricks of his trade to hurt his prey before he's even begun fighting. When he's personally fighting, he is able to hold his own, by fighting agilely, moving striking and darting or rolling somewhere around his opponent to get at them from another angle.

So begins...

"It depends how thoroughly they searched the area," Skullivan called back to Uluru, squinting beneath the sun. "And if they have it it's too late."

"These markings are of a long dead language, the clan once had tribes to the south..." The woman whispered, glancing up to Bohdana in the tent - the other two still unsure what was happening. "...You are a child of the sands. I see it... in your face."

"Maybe...but we'll never know unless we go back, right?" Uluru asked. "You want this...idol right? Well, I want proof of the Change. So the clear choice in all of this is to go back into Dol-Duna and search for this idol...and if the Wetlanders do indeed have their hands on it....I've got a plan for that," Uluru stated ominously.

"They're still in town, aren't they? My idol is too. Without that we're both in trouble."

"Then why stand out here?"

Having a moment to catch his breath Thessir gave a sigh of relief. He had reason to believe however that his break was soon to end. Despite the trouble he wasn't angry or all that vexed by the wetlander, simply curious. It was at this point he spotted a strange shadow looming closer to them, approaching slowly. Looking up he saw the shadow belonged to a strange flat flying creature with a man riding atop of it.

"Wetlanders and wannabe bounty hunters alike are seeking your head. So, suffice to say, I believe you now. I assume that if you know about the Change, your fellow Wetlanders might as well. You think they might have the idol?"

"It depends how thoroughly they searched the area... And if they have it it's too late."

"Maybe... but we'll never know unless we go back, right? You want this... idol right? Well, I want proof of the Change. So the clear choice in all of this is to go back into Dol-Duna and search for this idol... and if the Wetlanders do indeed have their hands on it.... I've got a plan for that."

Thessir listened to their conversation, his mind currently running through plans of his own.

"Yes. Both of the idol and the clan are needed. The wetlander vessel is a minor obstacle. Recipes for clearing obstacles exist. Metal vessel possesses weaknesses to learn. One weakness: People. Recipes for clearing people exist."

He had one hand under his chin with the other folded under his elbow while his foot tapped. His mind was racing with plots for dealing with the people on the ship, the idea of having the whole thing to himself for studying filling him with glee. He seemed lost in such imaginations as he grinned, looking up at the brim of his hat while he came up with a variety of solutions he could make.

Skullivan looked over Thessir and Uluru with a frown. "So what, we go back in town and get it back?" Skullivan swallowed. "You guys... can't beat the Wetlanders. If we get it back we have to do it quietly."

"Quietly, I can manage," Uluru nodded at Skullivan before turning to look at the odd looking man to his right. "Let's see if we can scout out the capabilities of these Wetlanders forst before we make any assumptions about their vessel," Uluru stated before hopping back atop Yanyan. "But if we're gonna make a move, let's do it quickly. It won't be long before they spot us out here. I suggest you take my lead and keep to the shadows..."

Uluru flew above and just ahead of the Wetlander and the pale man as he led them back towards the chaos that was Dol-Duna presently, using the dark back alleys as cover.

Skullivan swallowed, maneuvering through the alleys of Dol-Duna, ducking down with Thessir at Uluru's signals from above. Wetland Soldiers were down every corner, but worse - mercenaries. People hunting him. Still, using Uluru's careful direction they avoided every time a soldier came close. Skullivan and Thessir ducked into doorways, down streets, behind barrel - each time Uluru gave them a signal from the rooftops above.

As a few soldier's passed down their side street Skullivan and Thessir moved out of their cover, maneuvering down the street at Uluru's signal. Skullivan suddenly paused, causing Thessir to ram into his back. "Wait," The large man hissed in a deep voice. Down the street, leading straight to the main-bazaar, a dark-skinned woman with golden eyes and a body-suit sat on a bench and stared at Skullivan and Thessir.

Skullivan wanted to say something, but instead he quickly ducked into another alley at Uluru's command, breaking the woman's line of sight. "We're getting real close to the main street!" Skullivan called up to Uluru hovering on his flying beast in the sky above...

***

The Wetland Commander stood, his soldiers still watching over the bazaar, when suddenly he could smell smoke. He turned to the bar behind him as black smoke began to funnel out. "What the hell is this?" The Commander yelled, signalling for his soldiers to surround the bar. A few dove into the doorway, emerging a moment later with their hands over their mouths. "Dead soldiers here! Bartender's been killed!"

A woman in the bazaar began to cry in shock at the news, her children running to comfort her at the news their father was dead.

"Dead soldiers?" The Commander spat. "I'm sorry, what exactly are you waiting for?"

"Sir, we have their descriptions - the patrons saw them," A soldier said, stepping up to the man. The Commander glared. "Find them."

***

On the street Whisper, Sören, Dustin & Rusten had escaped down they could hear yelling from the main-street. Suddenly a group of Wetland soldiers ran up. "There!" One yelled, pointing down at the four. "That's them," Another began, reloading his rifle. The soldiers began to run after the four, signalling more to join them...

***

"Followers of the Creed?" The Nomad whispered, a glow emanating from her. "In a Nomads tent, that is interesting... my name is Mirova, Mir of the Naima Clan."

The woman, Mirova, then picked up the golden idle once more. "...This leads to the Change? According to a Wetlander?" Mirova frowned, examining it more intensely. "My clan... was the closest to finding it. To piecing the riddles that hid in the sands... we followed the stars but even the stars have limits... if the Wetlanders have proof... hidden in here." Mirova rose an eyebrow, her finger-nail tapping on the idol. "...It would be your duty to go after it... if you can change the world you should."

"Ah, there you are," Jake said, the tall man clapping a hand down like a vice on Skullivan's shoulder from behind, having appeared from an alleyway nearby. "I didn't expect you to come back into the city after my initial ping showed you outside, so it took me a minute to relocate."

Jake grinned as he held up a small compass-like object with a crystal embedded in it. "Unlucky for you, I never forget a face and this helps show the way. I hear you're worth quite a stack of money to the Wetlanders in town. Care to come quietly or will I need to beat you into quiescence first?"

"Let go of the Wetlander, kid," Uluru called down from atop his sand ray. The monster slayer leaped off his mount and landed on the ground with well placed thud. "I'm taking him to the Wetlanders and collecting that bounty myself," Uluru lied, his even tone and relaxed face never betraying his true goal. "Me and the pale one over here decided to split the gold since he helped find the foreigner."

A flash of thought ran over Uluru's face, though his hand edged towards his blade ever so slowly. "Rather not get into a brawl here, but there's plenty of gold to go around it seems. Help us get rid of the rest of the conpetition and we can split it in three ways. Sound good to you?"

Musa blinked. They were only steps away from the alarm. She picked up her staff as she stood. Giving herself a healthy stretch first, she then cracked her neck while tossing her empty bowl into a nearby bin. Luckily I was facing this way. The female.them bounced on her toes and stretched her toes before docking her Stagg and taking off after her prey. The gold was of no concern for her. What peaked her interest was the interest that the Wetlander himself posed.

Soon Musa came upon the scene in the alley. She quietly slid to a stop and watched everything unfold. Locking eyes with the man who had a giant.. butterfly thing? She slowly pulls out her staff and looks at the one who had his back to her.

"You despicable dune-heads," Skullivan said, wanting to add something to the performance as Uluru defended him under the guise of turning him in. Skullivan stared at the Cowboy Ninja before them.

Suddenly at the entrance of the alley a figure slid up, a staff drawn. Skullivan's eyes locked with hers - the woman he'd seen before. "Bounty hunter," He hissed to Uluru & Thessir before stepping forward. "Don't come down here, girl! You look very soft and these men are threatening to cut my face off! They're KILLERS. These two have already got me, you don't stand a chance!"

***

Mirova stared at Aisha. "The Change is real... and it is out there. The only reason the clans have not found it is because they think the world is hard and full of rock... they think their neighbours are their enemies, but when you look down from the sky... from the stars..." Mirova's hand pointed to the top of the tent. "You see the desert is united. We are one people, the clans... and the Change... is the only thing hopeful enough to make people see that. It is the only thing that will make our people... one Nomad clan."

Mirova paused at Aisha's next words.

"The Wetlanders?" Mirova's face twisted in a frown, her having listened in slight bemusement to Aisha up until that comment. Taking the idol and wrapping it in a shawl Mirova crawled forward between the three women and opened the tent entrance up. Stretching down at the entrance of the street Wetland soldiers were marching toward. Mirova swallowed. "You three have to leave," She hissed, crawling out into the sunlight and moving to the side her tent.

As the other three excited the Nomad hit one of the metal support polls of the tent, causing the entire thing to begin to collapse in on itself - the jingle of the instruments inside loud as it wrapped itself into a tight backpack of a ball. From her robes Mirova flung a grey hood over her head, grabbing hold of the large ball of tent - the artifacts poking out of the fabric, and swinging it onto her back and under the grey robe. The alluring Nomad of moments ago now appeared as any other filthy desert dweller, the only hint of more being the massive hunch on her back.

"Go," Mirova said, beginning to leave before pausing and turning back to Aisha. "...There's nothing easy about the Change. Simple, yes.... but not easy."

"You four!" The Wetland Soldiers called as they marched down. With a swallow Mirova began to sprint down the alley, the idol in hand, leaving the other three women behind.

***

Suddenly the Wagon stopped. The threesome inside and their guide would notice a young woman being attacked by her boss blocking their path out the village, Wetland soldiers rushing past to break up the fight. "What is this?" One soldier demanded, ripping Davikal off Ka'Wa as they fought in the street.

"Stop fighting. Street's off limits." Another soldier added, before marching up to the Sören, who was escorted the wagon down the street. "That goes to you too." The soldier paused, glancing behind at the Wagon - from ground-level it was hard to get a clear view of what was inside. "What you got back there anyway?"

"Not really," Jake said, still grinning. "You see, I really have need of that money." He shook his head at Skullivan's rant, as he dumped the man to the side and tied his hands with a rope pulled from a pocket.

"So, we can do this two ways," Jake said, placing his hands on his belt and stepping forward over Skullivan. "The easy way. Or the hard way."

Uluru sighed and drew out his sword. Without another word he took a step back and took a fighting stance, holding the sword in his right hand while his left stayed balled into a fist...until it opened up and released a small red crystal, which shattered and immediately began to emit a billow of smoke.

"Unless you two can hold your own, you'd better scatter now!" Uluru shouted, pushing Thessir and Skullivan away from the smoke, as he leapt atop Yanyan. Uluru glanced back at the oddly dressed woman who Skullivan had alluded to earlier. He was going to take a risk and trust that she would and could help and if not....well, it wouldn't be the first mistake he's made in the Qafar. He nodded briefly to her, hoping she would catch on and returned his attention to what appeared to be a cowboy-ninja.

Jake shook his head and sighed. "The hard way, huh? Well, that figures. I should have pegged you as a hard one after that conversation about the Salamands. People like you, who don't really care about nature, about the sand." Jake shrugged. "I'm hard pressed to respect people like you."

From his belt, Jake drew out what looked to be a piece of pipe about six inches long. With a flick of his wrist, the pipe extended to about two feet in length, transforming into more of a club.

"Non lethal," Jake confirmed. "Unless you get hit wrong. Pulling out a sword like that just proves you're not the type to think twice about killing someone."

Spinning the rod, Jake moved forward, his eyes peering brightly from underneath his hat. "Teaching you some manners will be good for everyone, I think."

"A spew of nonsense," Uluru sighed as the smoke cleared, allowing Jake to see clearly that Uluru was standing above him, standing on the tail of his sand ray. The creature then catapulted Uluru into the air, as he sprung into a flip and landed behind Jake. "You're quick to moralize, yet you'll easily trust those damn wetlanders to honor their end of the bargain? Think they 'respect the desert'?" Uluru asked, tossing another crystal, this one erupting into a burst of harmless but blinding sparks in front of him as he swung his sword at Jake.

Jake's hat dipped low, protecting his eyes from the blinding sparks as his club intercepted Uluru's sword with a massive clang that reverberated down into Uluru's wrists. A sword was a fine instrument of death, but its weakness was its finesse. Unless Uluru's sword was reinforced with magic, Jake's pipe would shatter or dent his sword to ruin.

Jake's cape swirled as he swung the pipe down with impressive force for Uluru's head, his counter strike coming directly off of his block of Uluru's sword.

As the pipe came close to crushing his skull, Uluru raised his glove blocking the hit, though fracturing a bone in the process as the crystal powering it, causing the intricate line pattern covering it to shine bright yellow as a stunning blast of electricity shot forth and electrified electrified the pipe along with parts of Jaek's glove. With his free hand, Uluru threw another smoke emitting crystal to the ground as he rolled bacleards.

The smoke cleared and Musa peeked around the corner wall to see that fellow flying off on his fleshy butterfly and the other one walking off at a brisk pace while staring down at a compass. Quietly, she slid back into the alley after the cloaked man was far enough for her to not hear his footsteps. "That was.. Brief." She murmured. Although the fight was fast, she was very lucky that the man with the brimmed hat decided to ignore that loud mouthed Wetlander. Musa huffed in annoyance. He would get a nice strike from her staff when she finally cought up with his little troup.

Bouncing on her toes, she set off after the group again, hoping to find them quickly and apologize for her not trying to detain the brim-hatted man before he attatcked.

Thessir was following along just fine, avoiding detection and the like as they walked in the flying beast's shadow. That was up until the point when the man from the bar earlier came upon them both, attempting to apprehend the wetlander. The bounty hunter bound the wetlander's hands and just decided he was going to detain him as though it was just that simple. Thessir wasn't much of a fighter though, luckily the man with the flying beast spoke in his stead.

"What is desirable of gold?" He wondered out loud, speaking his mind. Not long after that sentiment however the man with the floating creature attacked as there weren't many other options for dissuading their tracker otherwise. Bracing his stance he received the wetlander as he was shoved over towards him by the flying beast man.

As the smoke emitted from the man blocked all vision Thessir calmly produced his dagger. He cut through the wetlander's bondage with his dagger so easily it basically passed through the ropes, leaving the cut remains of aforementioned rope to fall in tatters in it's wake.

"Come. We search now." He motioned for the wetlander to follow him as he proceeded down the alleyway. On his way out he passed a woman with a skull set upon her head. Due to the smoke which was flooding out behind him he was fairly sure he saw her but she didn't appear to see them given her lack of reaction. As the smoke enveloped her she seemed to still be looking out towards where the combat was taking place.

After a number of turns across a few alleys as he and the wetlander turned a corner he had arrived to see a woman sprinting right towards them. It seemed their entrance was supposed to be her exit. His eyes though suffering from the light could catch a glimpse of skin from beneath the grey hood. Her skin was almost as pale as his was, white as snow with a mild red hue spread across. The reddish tint was what separated them in terms of skin tone. His skin lacked even that much color, appearing as solely white. Thessir never darkened under the sun, he'd only blister.

This was interesting indeed, mainly because a person of such little pigmentation was as rare as a blossoming blue rose out in the sea of sand. As much as he'd of liked to stop and chat there was still the feeling of being pursued to deal with. It did seem however that the woman was in quite a rush herself. Stopping a moment he raised a hand to grab her attention.

"Are you able to spend a lesser mark of time answering a question? I am curious."

Musa had seen the Wetlander pulling along the pale man as she pasked through a neighboring street. But just when she decided to cross over onto their steet, he was now leading two other females as they ducked into a vacant shop. She cursed in her native tongue, her eyes flicking back to hear the armed Wetlanders yelling after her prey. Are they all this loud? She thought incredulously. Skirting about, she slid to a stop right in their running path in time for Skullivan to smash into her side.

Her eyes narrowed down at him as he proceeded to yell and holler again, undoubtedly giving away their location. Quickly drawing her staff she gave him a quick and well deserved welt on his neck to shut him up "Shut your mouth! All you do is shout and holler! I'miss surprised you aren't dead yet!" She whispered harshly to him. "Now shut up and all of you keep moving." With a flick, she pointed her staff to a random person in their mini crowd "Make sure he does not speak until we are out of this mess. I will detain the men along with that other man standing on the fleshy butterfly." Her eyes bronzed over at her term for the animal. She knew it was wrong but she didn't know the name for the actual specie. Giving her weapon a twirl, she huffed and vaulted herself through the window of the shop, a shout already accompanying her entry.

"Fleshy...butterfly?" Uluru questioned as the staff wielding woman seemed to take charge of the situation. She proclaimed that she would apprehend Skullivan along with him, which he was fine with, so long as he was certain she was on the up and up. But as he was contemplating this, the woman had already vaulted through the window of the shop, giving Uluru no choice but to hop off Yanyan and follow. "You...wait, you..." Uluru called out, not knowing what to call her. "How aware are you of the full situation? About..." he was reluctant to give this information so freely considering he wasn't sure whose side she was on, but the situation was getting tense. "About the Change?"

Elsie stumbled into the abandoned shop with Mirova and the two strangers. She noticed the Wetlander with them, "You! You're the reason this is all happening! How do you know about the change?" She was full of adrenaline. Had she known her day would have turned out like this, she would have kept chatting with her friends, friends she would never see again. Yet, in her life, she'd learned that just because she moved on from an area, doesn't mean those friendships cease to exist, or become stagnant.

Aisha was out of breath, following Elise around, wanting to ask for her assistance in finding the escaped Wetlander, but apparently, they managed to find him again. Aisha was barely aware of what was going on as she was led this way and that, but she knew she couldn't let the man leave her sights. She was set on ensuring his safety. Eventually, she found herself in an abandoned shop with a crowd of people. There was a lot of shouting and questioning, but Aisha remained silent. She closed her eyes and brought herself into a semi-meditative state, finding her inner peace so she could make good judgement, rather than continue being lead on by others.

"Excuse me," Aisha called, in a calm voice. She was sweating at this point, but her expression was stern. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, before speaking again, raising a hand as if it gave her authority. "It would be best if all of us were to settle down and remain calm... My name is Aisha Abdul'la, and, it is best that we all be calm and come to a mutual understanding." She wandered toward the middle of the shop, slowly, and began to explain.

"First of all, just to make sure all of you understand, there is no such thing as the Change, at least not the kind that you are all seeking. That said, it is very clear that there is indeed something huge that has gotten the Wetlanders involved with our affairs. That is likely to do with our friend, the Wetlander whom of which we've persecuted and who of which those outside wish to capture. I don't know what all of you wish to do with him, but it is my belief that he must be protected. If you only care about information of the Change, it is your duty to leave now, for you have only greed in your heart. If you truly care for the man and his well-being, however, then hark and let him speak. Let him tell his story and bring to light what his beliefs and his troubles are."

Aisha turned to the person she was speaking of and told him, "If you allow us to understand you, then I shall tell you my recent information about the Clan of which you seek, for I have witnessed them."
