Dux Lionheart

Aliases: The Dux, the Imperial Dragon, the General Field Marshal
Gender: Male
Age: 48
Race: Human
Allegiance: Empire of Man
Role: Dux Lionheart

Appearance–
Height: 1.85m
Weight: 70kg
Physical Appearance: Quite muscular, and towering over most of his men. He has a black beard, and a pointed nose. His skin colour is that of a Hispanic. His eye colour is brown, but nobody ever sees his eyes, for he keeps them hidden under the shade of his visor. His face has a very recognisable signature scar, which goes across his right cheek, which he sustained from his early days, when an enemy soldier accidentally whipped his face. His body also contains dozens of whip marks he obtained from torture. His hair is long and grey, but well-kept. However, he is a paraplegic, having no control over his legs after his nerves there were destroyed by a burner used on him.
Clothing Choices: The Dux's style of clothing is knight-like in design. He has two sets of armour: the battle armour, as seen above, and a more ceremonial armour, which is gilded silver and trimmed with gold.

Equipment–
Weapons:
  • Mark V Assault Rifle: a high-capacity, high-velocity assault rifle which fires both projectiles and, to a limited degree, laser bolts.
  • Nanomachines: a one-of-a-kind versatile swarm of very small robots which can be shaped into any form, and create clouds of different densities; the Dux's preferred things to make out of these machines are melee weapons, shields, and high-velocity projectiles which can easily return to him.
Miscellaneous:
  • Nanomachine Crown: a crown beneath the helmet worn by the Dux which allows him to control the nanomachine swarm with little difficulty.
  • A locket: nobody knows what this locket contains except the Dux himself. Rumours say that it contains a photo of his family.

Personality: Despite living more than a thousand years into the future, the Dux remains one of the most steadfast in faith, a bulwark of traditional Catholicism, as well as an avid humanocentrist who believes that it was Humanity's birthright to conquer the stars on the behalf of God. He is also an avid literature reader, and a massive classicist and traditionalist. He is also a chaplain of sorts, acting as a beacon of hope and morale for his troops. He is also a very moral man, who has taken an oath of chastity after the death of his family. Despite his traditionalism, his methods are very complicated and very unorthodox, and away from the comforts of peace, he is very ruthless and calculating. He is an ISTJ, according to the Myer-Briggs Type Indicator, and leads his men from the front like Frederick the Great. He is not afraid to get his boots all muddy, for he was born and raised a warrior. Despite his warrior attitude, however, he is also a good enough diplomat and a rather charismatic speaker. He is also very practical, and wastes no time on theories.

He is a nationalistic romantic realist at times, creating lovely poetry inspired by loss and hope. His inspiration for this is the song, 'Va' Pensiero,' or 'The Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves' by Giuseppe Verdi.

History: Dux Lionheart was born as Richard Baker in Earth in the year 3174 to two loving parents who instilled in him a sense of virtue, traditionalism, and love for family. It was also from them where he learned of love for homeland and liberty, but hatred for communism. He was content, living a quiet and very average life. He married a wife, and had two children, but one day, he was drafted by the new Sans Government to fight for the Democracy. In his twelve years in the military, he realised that he was fighting for something here. He wasn't fighting for the Democracy; he realised that he was fighting to preserve the liberties his family enjoyed. However, in those twelve years, he was never allowed contact with his family, and he began to slowly spiral into insanity. In fact, none of his compatriots did, either. Nor did they receive any news from the civilian and government sectors.

It was on the year 3200 when he was transferred to Mars after the fall of Titan, and indeed, it was here where he first truly experienced hell as all of his comrades were killed off in the initial Imperial advance. He was left alive, for he was sent to attack the Imperial mobile command tower attacking his military biodome with his close friend. Unfortunately, his close friend soon disappeared from his life, and Richard was captured and brought to an Imperial ship, where he was interrogated. When he stated that he was only fighting for the safety of his family, the Imperials were distressed, and replied to him that ever since the rise of President Sans' communist party, the people began to starve for liberty and freedom. In the hacked databases, it was revealed that Richard's parents, wife, and children, were all victims of a firing squad. Richard broke down, and after months of deep thought and reflection, he decided that he would join the Empire in its endeavours to free Humanity. It was also in the Empire where he discovered religion and spirituality, and he began to seek it. He became a warrior monk amongst the soldiers, a chaplain of sorts, until one day, he was captured by the Democracy's forces in Mars, and for his betrayal, he was sentenced to death, but not before information was extracted from him. He was whipped, and he was burnt, until he had lost all control over his legs. He nearly died, but he kept holding on, for he knew his mission was not yet done. Fortunately, he was rescued and hailed as a hero who never spilled a single word.

In 3201, Richard's distorted body was restored when he was clad in armour and fixed with machines. While he was being restored, he decided to read history. During the Crusades against the Muslim armies, a man named Richard the Lionheart became prominent as a great general. Therefore, he named himself Richard Baker the Lionheart. Despite his disability, however, he continued to fight with his new machine body, and became prominent for his unconventional tactics. In four short years, he rose to become a colonel, and because of his contributions, he was awarded command over a small Imperial principality, which he ruled effectively on behalf of the Chancellor. He received the title of 'Dux,' or, 'leader.' Alongside one Admiral Kingsman, they destroyed the entire Democratic Fleet in the Alpha Centauri star system with the Empire's newest superweapon, and was promoted after the recognition of his actions that saved an entire Imperial brigade from destruction. He was also promoted to the Prime Chaplain of the Imperial Military, and for fourteen long years, he remained in the sidelines, having been given the mission to focus on finding the lost Imperial battle plans for Mars.

So begins...
