One sleep deprived Quartermaster

0 · 178 views · located in Odreon

a character in “Odreon - The Grief of the King”, as played by GotDraggedIntoThis

Description

Name: Jean Thatch

Age: 26
Sex: Male
On-Ship Job: First Mate/Quartermaster

Appearance: Dark blue eyes with long metallic hair that he keeps tied up in a simple ponytail. Jean is 6'3, weighs in at about 180 pounds and is of a muscular build. Besides his face, which has soft features when compared to the rest of his body which is covered in scars and as such Jean prefers to wear his long blue and grey cloaks that cover his arms over plain white shirts, one of the odd features about Jean's cloak is that it is covered in various holsters of different sizes. His most iconic feature is eye patch which covers his right eye which is completely blue(there is no white), Jean worried that it would unnerve the crew and keeps it covered.

Personality: Jean is callous by nature, often not calculating other peoples feelings into the equation, this isnt to say that Jean doesnt have feelings, he has a deep loyalty for his crew and would die for every member on board, he is really observant and will often make an effort to avoid forms of conflict unless his fellow crew mates are endangered. While Jean often holds his tongue a few hours in the sun will cause him to swear as much as any other sailor. When arriving in town Jean is often the last to leave the ship and the last to return, if he isnt working he will most likely be found with his nose in a book(researching)but as observant as he is he has no regard for time, which has occasionally worked against him.

Virtues: Loyalty and impeccable perception skills.
Vices: Callous nature and has a slight gambling habit(much to the captains dismay)

Skills: Jean is a master sharpshooter with his rifle and other firearms, expert with his twin daggers and is a decent brawler in a bar fight, Jean is very nimble and is very hard to pin down, as far as climbing goes Jean is as good as any other but isnt anything special.

Secrets: Jean's right eye contains magical properties that allows him to have hawk-like vision that can pierce through walls and clothes, Jean has yet to find out when or who gave him the eye as he has had it as long as he can remember, the patch he wears over it lessens the effects of the eye so that it is bearable when out at sea.

Equipment:Jean is armed to the teeth with six flintlocks strapped across his chest with a rifle on his back. His physical weapons include four daggers strapped on various parts of his body(Chest, hips and lower back). As far as normal goods go Jean carries a large waterskin, his compass and his latest book(that he is reading)

Reason for leaving: To forge a name for himself and find the person responsible for his strange eye.

History: Ever since he was born Jean had been on a ship, his parents giving birth to him on a schooner in Siuam before leaving him with an old captain, who quickly took him in, teaching him various skills about the ocean and sea life. Sadly at the age of 8 disaster struck Jean's life was toppled as the schooner, his home, was set upon by the Central Government, the ship was blown apart and Jean was sinking slowly into the depths of the ocean, drifting off to death, the last thing he could remember was the sensation of the ocean flooding his body, filling his lungs till no air remained.

The next time Jean awoke he was halfway across the world in some ocean near Ekaecrion with a small fisherman anxiously watching over him, when Jean opened his right eye however, the fisherman's face quickly turned from worry to terror, the fisherman dived into the ocean, screaming whilst trying to swim "THE DEVIL, ITS THE DEVIL" Jean, in shock looked for some reflective surface, but found it difficult as colours and shapes were more vivid and he could see through the bottom of the ship, down into the darkness of the ocean... "THE OCEAN" Jean screamed, and looked over the edge, to use the ocean as a mirror and to his horror his right eye had been turned completely blue, like the depths of the ocean..

Jean ended up on The Grief of the King by sheer luck, right place at the right time and has been on the ship ever since.
OOC: I realise this end bit is weak, but Id rather wait for the Captain and Navigator so that I can match up my end history with theirs.

So begins...
