The Fort

"Little one if we're going after hugs, Mik. Don't want to crush anyone after all. Though I wonder how things are going for another certain one. Food will be interesting, that is truth. Though if we can get a little farmland back or some such.."

He looks to them, "That's it. Clearing the fields of ice will save more people. It'll let us be better accepted. Food.."

"We're a long way from any farmland Coars," Koh said.

"Yes and no," Mik said, "We might be able to salvage a community garden for use. There's a big one across from my apartment building and it's not all that far. Used to plant stuff with Tabi before she got too old to hang out with her old man."

"That would work. Even if it's just a small one, even a little fresh food will be better for us all. Heck, may be able to find a way to get more gardens if we adventure out and thaw out enough ground, though that'll be more when we've gotten smaller places like that community garden set up."

He looks to the two, smiling as he nods, "Looks like we have quite the plan, mmm?"

"We can run it by Zeandra after we eat," Mik said.

As the trio entered the mess hall, Mik looked around for his daughter.

Koh led Coars off to get food.

Tabi herself was having a hard time doing anything with her new colored fur, staring at it all and huffing as she tries to find something that'll work with it.

Coars smiles as he heads off to get food with Koh, unaware of the other troubles that Tabi is having herself.

Mik looked worried and went to check Tabi's room. Upon arriving, he knocked. "You in there kiddo?"

Koh frowned in disgust at his bowl of mystery stew as he was served. "Yeah... we can't start growing stuff soon enough."

Coars smiles, taking his own and sighing. He heads off, "Well, could be worse, could be nothing."

Tabi gently calls out, "I'm ok! Just getting changed!"

"Say that again after tasting it," Koh smirked. Looking around as they searched for seats, they would see most of the changed segregated to a corner by fearful survivors. One woman was becoming a snake from the waist down, and one man had turned red.

"This a... girl... thing or a... yanno... a 'crap I have a tail now' thing?" Mik asked.

"Kind of both."
Tabi huffed as she hadn't expected to get a tail, though she didn't mind it much. She didn't think she'd get such a look.

"Though I'll be ok I think just, have to tailor it a little."

"Mmm I will."
Coars pauses as he sees that the survivors are being afraid, then grunts as he sees this.

"Find us a seat.."


He hands his stew off to Koh, starting toward the survivors and frowning gently.

"So, when did this become the past where you couldn't trust someone just because they volunteered to change to be your brothers and sisters in arms? To fight a different fight so we all could live?"

"Maybe you can help me out too," Mik chuckled, "I'm wearing a curtain."

"I got, well, bigger."

"Yeah, until they eat us," said a poorly shaven man in a hunting cap.

"And how do we know you aren't just another monster from the cold?" a woman asked accusingly. The others around her muttered in agreement.

Tabi moves to open the door, "I'm decent enough dad. I'll help where I can. Though I'm terrible at sewing, I'll try."

Coars looks to the woman at that, head tilted before humming.

"Ignorance isn't going to help anyone. You think I'm a monster from the cold? Do you know what I was discussing earlier today with my new buddy? How to help feed everyone. Not 'Monsters'. Not 'humans'. Everyone. I was going to talk to Zeandra, but you're so caught up in fear that you can't realize I'm not here to hurt you. I'm here to try and save us. Have you even had a decent talk with her, or are you going to mooch off of her without asking about the sheer amount of knowledge she has about this? You're afraid of change because the last one brought death to you. I'm trying to revitalize life. I'm not trying for privilege."


Coars turns his back to them at that and huffs as he shakes his head, "I'm changing things because the only way to stay alive is together. Humans and well, Magi. You won't be easily convinced though, will you? No, you want proof. I intend to give you some, soon."

"Better than I am," Mik laughed, "Remember Phantasmagoria* when you were twelve? You didn't talk to me for a week."

"We'll be waiting," she scoffed. The group went back to muttering to each other.

Koh shook his head and gave Coars a look that said 'we'll show em'.

(*Halloween equivalent)

"Don't be too surprised when you see just what we intend."

He heads off to Koh and nods, knowing that it wouldn't be easy.

"Mmm oh I remember that. I'm sorry that I avoided you so, dad. Though, going to have to rely on a lot more, I know."

She'll begin the work of making such, concentrating.
