Moirelle's mother had just scolded her for the sixteenth time that night for staying up so late. Her voice had gone shrill and Moirelle knew it was time to put her book way before Ettie got really mad. She placed her book beneath her pillow and blew out the candle, drifting quietly into slumber.

!!!CRASH!!!

Moirelle woke to find herself drenched in rainwater and her bedroom window flung open with the force of the winds outside. She got up from her bed and walked over to close the window. Moirelle didn’t see the white owl fly over her head and into her closet. She did, however, notice a book lying on her pillow. She tossed it on her nightstand and went back to sleep.

Moirelle fell into such a deep sleep that she didn’t notice the man walk out of her closet and across the room to her nightstand. He looked at the candle on her bedside table and it lit up instantly. He took the book from her nightstand and tucked it into her school bag. Then he flew out the window into the shadowy night, closing the window behind him.

What a dream! Moirelle thought as she woke up. It was still dark outside, but the sun could be seen just over the horizon. Moirelle dressed herself and grabbed her school bag, not realizing that her candle was still lit and hadn’t melted at all. She ran out of her house and started down the road to school.

“Hey, watch it!” Moirelle cried as she picked herself up off the ground.
