Ayano is outwardly towards most of the other crew members a sarcastic and snide occasional psychopath. She didn’t have much time to connect with most of the crew except some of the very first members of the Stray Dogs, and preferred to keep it that way when she realized that the death of the captain shocked her more than she thought it would. Sometimes she can still act more like a child around her age, making some (nastier) jokes and having an attraction towards cute things and expensive clothing. She can also get easily excitable when certain topics are brought up and goes over all the place when it happens. Such times are however, infrequent. Deep down inside her, she also longs for some kind of guidance figure that doesn’t leave her or die on her but so far has done her best to push it away after the last one died protecting her.
In combat her personality switches to a much more terrifying person. She enjoys the rush when she starts hunting down and fighting other people, to the point she gleefully smiles and rushes in. If there isn’t any rush to get a job done, she can also get sadistic during a fight in order to drag it out as long as possible.

No one including herself knows where Ayano is really from. She showed up on the records of the infamous prison Impel Down one day and was assumed to be a prisoner for one reason or another and treated as such. Although she was spared the worst of the prison, there was nothing to be done from seeing her see the very worst. Most of her early child hood was spent in what was widely considered as a living hell, and a brewing resentment against the world and the Marines began in her. However, she still ended up picking up some survival skills amongst others due to the sheer amount of criminals who inevitably ended up around her, so it wasn’t a total loss in the end.
Eventually, it was discovered several years later that it was a clerical error Ayano had ended up in Impel Down. Apparently an officer had filed the paper work incorrectly and ended up transferring her from Marineford to Impel Down. Without any further explanation, she was shipped off to Sabaody and deposited in a pier. After surviving several weeks in the “streets” of Sabaody, she was captured by a gang and sold off to an auction house.
Given her scrawny appearance, age, and lack of skills, there were very few willing to acquire as anything more than fodder for their entertainment at best. Her price was steadily lowered until a local criminal decided to buy her and take her with him. Although Ayano didn’t really understand what was going on, she understood that this person was now more or less responsible to her and her new gaoler. Contrary to her pessimistic expectations, the man treated her kindly after he purchased her. He took her to eat and buy some clothing to replace her worn out rags.
Of course, none of it was really free. Impel Down had taught her enough that she could understand the man desired something in exchange for his kindness and favours. After she started to put on some weight and even start growing a little, the man offered her the opportunity to learn how to fight and truly survive in the world. Even at her young age, Ayano could see that it would lead to a much longer path but it didn’t matter. Someone was offering her the chance to gain power and it would be foolish of her to turn it down.
The longer she spent with the man, the more she learned about his position and the world beyond. She learned that he was a member of one of the criminal organization that were a dime a dozen in Sabaody, and that he wanted to start moving up in the world. The man and some of his partners started teaching her how to fight and navigate through the urban maze. Slowly she began picking up the skills of fighting, killing, and hunting. After just over a year since she had been bought by the man, she was “asked” by the man to help him move up in the world. He showed her a picture of the leader of his organization and told her to take care of it.
With nothing but a knife, a map, and the clothes on her back Ayano began her first hunt through Sabaody. No one had a reason to suspect a child to be after a life, and no one was particularly alarmed as she started asking around for her prey. While her target was eventually tipped off someone was after him, he never suspected that what he thought was the daughter of one of his underlings would be hunting him. After stalking him for a few days, she took her first life. It wasn’t as hard as she thought it would be; it was almost too easy and…fun for her. Perhaps it was a while back that she decided that it was a dog eat dog world and she would do whatever was needed to survive.
With her first hunt successful, Ayano returned to her patron and was rewarded with gifts he had noticed she had been eyeing whenever they went out. The brutal murder of the formal leader allowed him to ascend to the top of the criminal organization and begin expanding his power. Over the next few years, Ayano began hunting down more and more of her patrons enemies and rivals, mercilessly butchering them and whoever tried to protect them. The sudden spike in murders and criminal violence didn’t escape unnoticed, but the Marines decided that as long as it didn’t affect the rest of Sabaody, they wouldn’t intervene.
Ayano started to enjoy the thrill of each hunt she was given, but realized it was getting much harder. Her patron was starting to take on the bigger names, and consequently the protection got better. To compensate for her lack of physical ability, she started using stimulants to give her the edge in speed, reflxes, and agility over those who tried to stop her. Her already addled mind was further put under stress with the sheer mount of stimulants she was starting to use.
Eventually her patron had climbed very high up the food chain. She was given almost anything she desire and was living what was a decidedly comfortably life. One day, a friend of her patron decided to borrow her services and asked her to hunt down a very “vile” person. Ayano looked at the picture of her mark and set off on what was to be her last hunt. Her target was not another criminal as she had thought, but a captain in the Marines. He wasn’t much work to take out, especially since he was caught unaware, but his death sparked off an outrage. By the time Ayano made it back to her patron, his entire operation was destroyed from the brutal retaliation by the Marines. With nowhere else to go and Marines on the hunt, Ayano ran off into the city and wandered around purposelessly. She managed to piece together what had happened; her patron’s friend was also trying to gain power and took advantage of her to set off a chain of events that would end her current world. Killing him did little to help deal with her loss of meaning however. She wandered through Sabaody, stealing to survive and watching the after math of her actions.
She eventually became despondent and was waiting to die when a giant of a pirate encountered her alone, dead in spirit and dying in body. Without saying a word, he grabbed her and threw her over his shoulder. She gave a feeble protest but quickly gave up and decided that he couldn’t really do anything worse to her.
The pirate introduced himself as captain of a crew called the “Stray Dogs”, a collection of orphans and others with no where to go. It wasn’t very big and it didn’t really interest her so she just acted as apathetic as possible. While a few crew members were understandably upset with her attitude, the captain just laughed and said it was alright; he knew she had a much rougher past than the rest of them. The captain didn’t ask her to do much or make her to do anything, but was continuously kind and friendly to her. The rest of the crew strived to follow “Papa Pirate”’s example, and she slowly started to come to terms with what had happened so far in her life. While she idled around, she began to learn the stories of each crew members , and of the exploits of pirates in this Golden Age. ¬
She decided that if all these other dogs could survive, so could she. Ayano formally joined the crew and was given the job of cabin girl and assistant cook due to her age. The crew was curious as to what her abilities were, but Papa Pirate remained silent about it and life went on as normal. While the duties of being a cabin girl and cook kept her occupied, the itch of fighting and hunting was starting to get to her. It pained the captain to see her wanting to fight as he hoped she could lead a more normal life with the Stray Dogs. He finally relented when another pirate crew decided to start a fight with the Stray Dogs and sent her off like a human torpedo at the enemy ship. What followed was nothing short of a butchery that both surprised and appalled the crew. Even Papa Pirate who had witnessed her work first hand before was still momentarily surprised at the callous actions of Ayano. With the help of his crew, he started to try and reign in the and teach Ayano how to both fight without trying to kill everyone, and how to lead a more normal life. His attempts to act as a parental figure she never had and giving her some gifts as a reward for learning seemed to finally make some inroads as her personality started to thaw and butchering everyone her way was no longer the priority in her agenda.
Then once again another disaster struck and the crew encountered a Marine ship. The fighting was brutal and the captain took shots meant for his crew and his death set something off in Ayano again and alongside the remaining crew, defeated the Marines. While she wasn’t quite back to the way she used to be, her anger and rage fed back into her personality which had regressed a little. She stuck on with the Stray Dogs out of respect for the late captain and due to the fact she had no home left outside of them.

Abilities
Ayano possesses very few abilities outside of the skills needed to excel as a hitman. Her time spent hunting targets and moving through many different cities gives her an uncanny intuition and ability to navigate through most urban jungles, and stay unnoticed while doing so. She also learned to disguise herself in order to elude those hunting for her and in order to get closer to more suspicious prey.
She also possess above average swordsmanship and can outduel the average pirate in most close quarter combat situations.
Outside of hunting and killing, she possesses probably even less skill than other children her age outside of cooking.
Having spent several years of her life as a hitman, she is trained in a variety of weaponry. However, she prefers to savour the experience of a successful hunt, and also ensure that the prey is truly dead. Her weapons of choice are generally blades and other items she can conceal. Currently her two favourite blades are two short swords she keeps strapped to her back under a cloak.
On the few occasions she needs a more subtle approach than barrelling in and slashing around, she keeps a variety of daggers, knives, and other tools hidden amongst her clothing for more intimate encounters.
Although she disdains methods of killing that remove you from the experience, she also carries around a vial poison and a wrist bow for the very few times she may need them.
Supplies
There is very little that she carries around with her outside of her weapons and clothing. Everything else she owns can be carried around in a satchel she wears when not hunting for a target.
Generally she carries around her stimulant ampoules, maps, some food, and a vessel for water.
Sentimental Value
Although she owns very little outside of her gear, she secretly treasures it all. One of her treasured possesions is a wolf stuffed animal she received when she was young, young enough that she doesn’t quite remember who gave it to her. She is very fond of it and keeps it in her cabin and gets embarrassed when someone else sees it. Sometimes she talks to it about things she would rather not with other people.
Another possession she treasures is a scarf that the captain gave her when he realized she wasn’t used the cold at all. It was one of the few gifts someone gave to her out of kindness. However she refuses to admit how much she likes it even through everyone else can tell due to her wearing it most of the time when she isn’t fighting.
She also still wears a black choker that was given to her as a reward for her first successful kill and it often reminds her of the path she has now taken.
