Esther Kait McLeod

Wolf Face

My Little Dire Wolf - An affection nickname given to her by her father. Given her Quirk, it fits.
Mutt - A less affectionate nickname that Esther hates. If given the option, she'd just rather everyone use her name.

Tall and stringy, Esther is a lengthy creature for her age, but it looks like muscle and weight have yet to catch up with her height. She's a thin and slender thing with spindly arms and legs. It's certainly not a heroic build by any measure, but maybe one day she'll fill out. Maybe. Hopefully. Regardless her height doesn't affect her, as there's no awkward flailing of limbs that usually comes with being nothing but arms and legs, and she's rather fluid and graceful on her toes, all things considered.
Esther's hair (and fur, on her wolf ears) is a tawny, light brown color with milky highlights appearing near the edges. Her hair ends in bangs in the front of her face, framing it, and the rest falls neatly past her shoulders and settles somewhere around the middle of her back. There's a soft quality to it, almost like it beckons to be petted. And if it doesn't, Esther does.
Her average dress is rather modest and rustic with earthy tones. While she adores wearing pretty sundresses when she can, utility usually demands a pair of pants and an wholesome shirt to go along with it. When the weather turns chilly however, she breaks out the fur lined coat and boots usually the same color of her own fur. Don't worry, it's not her fur. That would be weird. As for her Hero Costume, well. Anything too fancy or flashy would just go to waste considering her Quirk. Instead, she opts to go barefooted with a bonnet atop her head with holes cut out for her ears as well as a simple earthen colored mask to conceal her face.
O D D I T I E S
The most immediately apparent oddities is the fact that Esther has a pair of wolf ears sprouting from the top of her head, fur and all. They aren't fake, and she's been known to bite people if they tug on them too hard. Likewise, she possesses the tail of a wolf, which makes tailoring her pants to accommodate it a necessity. Adorably, it also wags when she's happy. Another wolf aspect are sharpened canines and a pair of red irises.

{"You. I like you. I think I'll be ye friend, and there's really not a lot ye can do about it."}

✦ Playful ✧ Passionate ✦ Loyal ✧ Intelligent ✦
Always nipping at your heels, Esther is a playful sort with a grinning maw of teeth. At her heart, Esther is a fun and cheerful individual. Bright eyed and literally bushy tailed, Esther an immensely happy sort who is simply content to love and live life. Laughter and smiles come easily to her lips and she has a knack for bouncing out of funks. She's never the one to be downcast for long, and sooner rather than later she'll always find a rhyme or reason to start smiling again. A certain warmth radiates from the young woman, and she likes to think that her good cheer is infectious, at least she hopes it is. An eternal optimist, always with a hope and prayer that whatever rut she may find herself in will be resolved in a satisfactory manner in the end.
Possessor of a sharp wit and quick (sometimes even wagging) tongue, sarcasm with deadpan delivery edges what would be your ordinary happy-go-lucky girl. She's no ditz and in actuality rather intelligent when she decides to apply herself. When she buckles down, her quick mind comes to bare and she can demonstrate that, no, she is not a ditz. Despite that, overall Esther is a creature of instinct and passion. In effect, she'd much rather act and deal with the consequences later than to just sit around and think. She's a doer, not a thinker.
She's all heart and wears it on her sleeve for all to see, but she's neither so fragile as to allow that heart to be broken so easily. In truth, her heart is fierce when backed into a corner. She's not the type to give up or give in and that goes for the people in her life as well as life in general. When she decides that she likes someone, they find themselves an intensely loyal friend, whether they want her or not. Esther is not the kind of girl who gives up on people, willing to trust her gut feelings on them.
A side effect of that fierce heart and passion is a hidden temper. Now, that is not to say that she will fly off the handle at any slight, perceived or otherwise, but to keep mining her patience is playing with fire. When her patience is tested and pushed over the edge, she can be known to snap back hard and quick. It's a rare sight to behold, her fangs bared and her voice aflame, but it has been known to happen from time to time. She's a passionate woman, and sometimes in the heat of passion she can lose her grip on her emotions and she bites back. She's always apologetic after she's had time to cool off.

{"Why yes, I am a dog person. That shouldn't come as much of a surprise considering."}

Wolf Shift - Exactly what it sounds like, Esther's Quirk allows her to shift into a wolf creature, with the ears, tail, and teeth being only a glimpse of what she's able to become. In this form, Esther is much larger than an ordinary wolf, her back settling in around the waist of an average adult. It's the dire in the dire wolf after all. Esther retains her human intelligence complimented by the senses of the animal, but loses the ability to speak (wolf anatomy doesn't really allow her the gift of words, after all). Her fur is the same of that in her hair, a tawny color with milky highlights. Despite the size, she's rather adorable in this form, if she's not baring her teeth anyway.
S T R E N G T H S
✦Heightened Senses - Even outside of her wolf shift, Esther has heightened senses of hearing and smell, as befitting someone of her Quirk. The pair of ears sitting on top of her head aren't just for show, and she care hear things further off or pick out unique smells from a crowd far more than an ordinary human. In her wolf shift, these senses only heighten and become, believe it or not, superhuman.
✧Strong Bite - Those teeth in her mouth truly are as sharp as they seem, and she has the jaw power to back it up, both in human and wolf forms. Though, trying to bite something as a human is rather... awkward to put it lightly. Her teeth are nigh indestructible with an impossible grip and she's able to put a nasty dent in steel with them. Her father has been known to rip steel to shreds with his bite, but Esther's not quite at that level yet. One day though. One day.
✦Speed - Four legs are better than two! While her human form has the speed of an athletic human her size, in her wolf shift, she's far faster. While not supernatural, her size and gait gives her a surprising pep in her step, and she can be upon her target before they know it. A couple hundred pounds of fur and teeth bolting toward you is a terrifying experience to behold.
✧Clever - To call her clever as a fox would frankly, be insulting. She's a wolf, not a fox, but the sentiment remains the same. When necessary, Esther can draw on her intelligence and become quite clever and creative in her approach to things. Her Quirk doesn't give her much more than the abilities of a large and better wolf, it's up to her to use these abilities to their fullest potential.
✦Instincts - Esther has these feelings about things, and she often acts upon them. True, sometimes she turns out to be wrong, and she'll own those mistakes, but more often than not, her instincts have led her true. She'd rather listen to them and be wrong than not and be right.
W E A K N E S S E S
✦Lack of Speech - Not in her human form, of course. She's as chatty as they come. But the wolf's anatomy is not conducive to the gift of speech, barring howls, barks, and growls. It makes communicating finer points of tactics in this form rather difficult.
✧Instinctual - A double edged sword. While her instincts and gut-feelings turn out to be right more often than not, in her wolf shift, she takes on the attitude of the animal as well. While, it does not override her original personality, and there's no danger of losing herself to the wolf, inexperience and youth leads her to being distracted by things wolves like. For instance, waving a big steak in front of her face is a good way to break her concentration and scratching her behind her ears will cause her to drop everything and start causing her leg to twitch... In both human and wolf forms.
✦Colorblind - Red-green colorblindness, though rare in females, in present in Esther. That being said, it's probably not the effect her genetics... Well. Not directly. In reality, it more likely a side effect of her Wolf Shift Quirk as both her father and mother were colorblind as well. Or it could be genetic. It's not like she asked a doctor or anything.
✧Big fluffly wuffly puppy dog - A picture of the apex predatory staring down her prey during the moment of the kill, Ester does not paint. Despite the size of her wolf shift and the maw of sharp teeth, she seems more like a big fluff than anything else. With a furry tail wagging too and fro and a tongue hanging out of a lopsided grin, she does not inspire fear or aw... well. Unless the aw is in the context of, "Aww how adorable." It's rather a shock then, when she bares her teeth and growls.
✦Temper - A stark contrast to that above, hidden deep within her heart is a fiery temper. Granted, it takes a lot of button mashing to get to that point, but Esther can snap when pressed a little too far. Then gone is the wappy puppy dog and out comes the wolf, with a growl and fangs bared. She is a creature of passion and when that passion runs hot, she loses sight of her goal and becomes unfocused and distracted.

{"Pfft, don't look at me like that, I never howl at the moon... often."}

✦Exercising - Not the type to go for long periods of time without moving, Esther likes to exercise, specifically running-- both in human and wolf form.
✧Chewing - Human or wolf, Esther likes to chew on things. Now, she's too well behaved to chew the corners of furniture, but it's not uncommon to find her gnawing on something.
✦The Chase - There's nothing better than the thrill of the hunt. Esther has an odd past time of going into the woods and chasing down small critters. She never actually eats anything, she just enjoys the chase.
H A B I T S
✧Hugging Her Tail - Can you blame her? It's so soft and fluffy you can't help but not hug it. When stressed, nervous, or just plain bored, she carrasses it and pets it to help calm her down.
✦Twitchy Ears - Esther wears her emotions for all to see on her sleeve, or rather in her case, her ears. It's pretty easy to gauge her reaction by seeing what her ears do.
✧Accent - "What? Ye sayin' ye cannae understand me? Ye dinnae know? Me paw's a Scot. Just kidding, I'm not that bad, but it still slips in every now and again."
L I K E S
✦Apples - There's just something about biting into a juicy delicious red apple that sets her mind a racing and her heart beating. It's all to common to see her chewing on an apple.
✧Meat - "Ye can't be surprised, these teeth were made for meat-- raw or otherwise. Just the thought of a big juicy steak makes my mouth water and my mind race."
✦Petting - It's involuntary, but when she's scratched behind the ears, her legs gets to a tapping and shivers run up her spine. If she's ever mad, the best wya to cheer her up is a good scratch behind the ear.
✧The Moon - Esther's not entirely proud of it, considering the stereotype, but she loves nights where there's a full moon. One of her favorite things to do is to go running when the moon hangs high in the sky. And yes, sometimes she howls at it.
✦Dogs/Wolves - A true alpha, Esther loves other canines, and they in turn love her. If the hero business never works out and she has to run away into the wilderness, being a pack leader is always an option.
D I S L I K E S
✧Cats - "Ye see a cat? Where? I'll eat it, right here, right now. I hate 'em. They're so snobbish and stuck-up and think they're better than everyone else. The jerks."
✦Bread - Where's the meat? The protein? The flavor? Esther's not a huge fan of bread, she sees it as filler taking up room on her plate and in her stomach where better food could go.
✧Being Cooped Up - Esther's not claustrophobic, but having walls around her for too long makes her restless. Her soul is that of a wolf's, and she wants nothing more than to be free to run.
✦Swearing - A proper lady never swears. Well, she might not exactly be the ideal image of a proper lady, but she still refrains from swearing, despite her Scottish heritage. Her father never does, so why would she?
✧Vegetables - Why do people insist that she eat all of her kibble. Fruit is fine, especially apples, but she's not fond of vegetables, especially the leafy green ones. She's a carnivore, not a herbivore.
G O A L S
✦Becoming a Great Hero - Her father, Conner McLeod, or better known as Dire Wolf was a great hero in her birthplace of Glasgow before they moved to America. She wants to be as a great a hero as he is, and hopefully one day they can be heroes together.
✧Living Up To Expectations - "I just want to make my dad proud. I mean, I know he's proud of me, I just... I want to fill the paw prints he left behind for me, ye know?"
✦Finding Her Own Way - Despite the reverence she has for her father, Esther wants to become a hero on her own terms, and not just because of who her father is. She wants to find her own way in life.
F E A R S
✧Letting Her Father Down - It would be difficult to let her father down, considering the love he has for his daughter, but Esther doesn't want to give him a reason to be disappointed in her.
✦Fear - "There's nothing to fear, but fear itself." Esther's afraid of finding herself in a situation where fear takes hold and she becomes too petrified to do anything but be in the way. She is supposed to have the heart of a wolf, fear does not suit her.
✧Failure - "Don't get me wrong, I know failing is how ye learn. I'm just afraid of failing at a critical moment, and letting someone who I should be protecting get hurt. That's... what heroes do, right?"

{"One day... I hope to become at least half the person that my dad is. If I can do that... then I think I'll be okay."}

Glasgow, Scotland
H I S T O R Y
Born the first daughter to the famous Hero Dire Wolf in the Highlands of Scotland, Esther had always been the apple of her father's eye. Conner McLeod, her father's real name, had always been a large man, a rippling mountain of muscle, a busy tail, furry ears, and a great big beard that would make any true Scot proud. His Quirk, Wolf Shift, only made him bigger and more intimidating. Where Esther's Wolf Shift is still a decent size, Conner's allowed him to shift into a silver wolf the size of a small car-- thus the title, Dire Wolf. However, the only thing bigger than Conner, had always been his heart. A kindly and loving man to the core, he was beloved by both the people he saved, and his family.
Felicity, the woman Conner married, also had a Quirk, termed Husky Shift for her ability to shift into-- get this-- as husky. Though nowhere near as large as her husband, and maybe a little larger than an ordinary dog, Felicity, whose hero name was Dog Sled spent a short stint as a hero herself mostly in a support role. It was actually how they met, during an excursion in Glasgow. While Conner fought off the main threat, Felicity evacuated the citizens, and then came to support Conner. When the threat was dealt with, Conner and Felicity went for drinks, and before long, they were married. With a heart as large as his, Conner found family life even more rewarding than the hero life. Especially when little Esther came into the world and their little wolf pack grew by one.
Conner was immediately smitten by his russet little pup, and Esther had him wrapped around her paws. With his new family, Conner began to dial back his hero duties to spend more time with his family, made easier by the influx of new heroes in Glasgow. Eventually, they decided to leave Glasgow, and migrate to America. New York City, to be exact, a city Conner figured could use all the hero help they could get. A few months into their move, Esther demonstrated her Quirk, the same as her fathers, about the same time as Felicity announced they were pregnant with their second child. A happier man than Conner could not be found. He now had two apples for both eyes.
Esther's sister, named Blair, soon demonstrated her own Quirk, a mix between both Conner's and Felicity, creatively coined Wolf-Dog Shift. Unlike Esther and Conner however, Blair was unlikely to grow to their size-- though the knowledge didn't both the little girl much. She did not have the drive to be a hero like her sister had. Still, the two sisters spent many of their days together roaming the city's parks in the animal forms.
Given whom her father was, Esther could have learned everything about being a hero from him-- but that was not the path she wished. Like he had before her, she wished to learn to be a hero on her own, and though disappointed about not being able to take his daughter under his wing, Conner understood and was proud of his firstborn. It was this desire that led her to take the entrance exam into Paragon Academy. Though difficult, she managed to do well enough to slip into the school. While Esther was ecstatic, Conner found it bittersweet. While his daughter would be going to the premier hero school in America, that meant she would leave him for Excelsior Valley-- a long way from home.
It was with teary-eyed goodbyes and well wishes that Esther departed, with the hope of returning one day so that she can be a hero alongside her father.
