Cathal Kathay

Age: 28

Sex: Female

Height: 5'6''

Weight: 138 lbs.

Eye Color: Light Brown

Hair Color: Black

Basic Description: Cathal is a dusky-skinned, wiry figure of lean muscle and a latticework of scars, looking every bit the “lady duelist” with her elegantly cropped hair. Her face as a whole is pleasant to behold, with vibrant eyes and a youthful face. She bears a modest bust and fairly wide hips, with “dancer's legs”. The way Cathal constantly rocks on the balls of her feet scream agility. Underneath the clothing, Cathal is covered in roughly a hundred scars of every shape and size imaginable, the most prominent of which being a crater scar that mars the skin just below her left arm down to the hip on the same side, dozens of crosshatching cut scars of large sizes on his back and smaller ones on his abdominal area, and the last three puckered burn scars on his right thigh.

As for markings, Cathal has a silver-stud tongue ring and two identical tattoos; one on each palm in the shape of a perfect black circle. Her nails are almost always coated in a layer of paint a red so deep, it would appear black unless closely observed.

Personality

Personality: Abrasive, casual and open are three good words that come to mind where Cathal is concerned. While not exactly your strong, silent anti-hero, Cathal gets the job done by trading cool calm for a fiery personality and a winning smile. This traveler believes that a nice smile can win you almost anything in this world, and also believes that a fight can always win out over words.

This is a slight contradiction, given Cathal's proclivity for subterfuge, but the woman simply feels that a good punch to the jaw is a great way to assert dominance. On the note of dominance, one would find themselves either hating or loving her overwhelming sense of bravado within minutes of meeting her. She is quick to take advantage of any signs of frailty or weakness in any situation, be it discerning truth from lies, or making a new friend.

A nice balance to some of these less savory attributes is Cathal's almost child-like curiosity. As a vagrant, Cathal feels that she has all the time in the world to unravel the secrets of the universe and takes every new bit of information in stride. While she is quick to anger in response to most negative situations, Cathal will spend more time studying a completely new predicament than fuming about it. This is mostly so she can laugh in the face of her foes as she comes back with a new and improved assault.

On a side note, Cathal is very aware of how attractive she is and feels that sex is a gift to be given at her leisure. Probably her one truly redeeming feature is her devotion towards what he calls "The End". It is for the End, a peace that will last as long as humanly possible, that Cathal will do anything to achieve.

Cathal is a woman of fluid mind, finding it boring to stay in one state of emotion for too long. She can most often be found wrapped in the arms of a one-time lover, raging at some inane detail of life, or crying over the death of a character in a dramatic play. On a side-note, Cathal finds the notion of death terrifying. She cannot imagine what not existing anymore would be like.

Equipment

Occupation: Slayer

Magic: Cathal has only the most rudimentary grasp of magic, and knows only enough to create sparks to start a fire, or form a cup of water per day. The one bit of magic she prides herself in is “sharpening”, allowing herself to apply a minor amount of energy in order to make shapes(such as cubes and spheres) out of small objects.

Clothing: A relatively lavish black-leather brigandine lined with gold embroidery, cut off at the armpit and ending in a tight gorget and collar on the neck. Revvealing her bare shoulders, this design starts up again with long leather gloves that end just above Cathal's elbows in an elegant cuff, mde of the same material and design as her brigandine. Cathal wears a pair of form-fitting gray linen trousers, with a supple leather belt at the waist holstering most of her gear. On her feet are a pair of long black leather boots with a simple gold trim on the foot. The last notable part of her attire would be the bloody red rose amulet drapped around Cathal's neck; a trophy taken from a sycophant of the Cult of the Blood of Ouranos.

Weapons: Fire, Flame, and Ember- Three flintlock pistols of Corithean make, sporting the simple “wood and iron” bodies and a single, weighty lock.
Maw- A short iron rapier of pre-First War Domnian make. With a weapon designed for stabbing, even less physically powerful combatants such as Cathal become a potent close-range threat.

Items
1 pouch filled basic antiseptic cocktails and coagulants.
5 pouches filled with various basic chemical components, such as sodium and iodine.
1 pouch filled with ground nightshade, desertbloom, scorpia venom, and rattlesnake venom.
A compass.
A canteen.
A collapsible telescope.
*All strapped to her belt.

Skills: It should be noted that Cathal is not exactly the largest, nor the most well-built combatant out there. As such, she has taken steps with her choice of fighting style to overcome more powerful combatants. As such, Cathal specializes in the use of stabbing weapons, which require far less power to damage a target than slashing weapons, and she has picked up a fair proficiency with small-arms.

Aside from combat, Cathal has an array of survival techniques that she employs almost every day of work. She has a wide knowledge of toxicology, botany, and tracking. Plus, she's a half-decent cook.

History

Nationality: Estruscian

Brief History: Within the subterranean city of Erebin, several miles below the surface of the main junction of the Lomba River, Cathal Kathay's not-so-humble beginnings took root. Located at the center of fourteen underground waterfalls and rivers, Erebin was one of the largest producers of water and many water-reliant crops and goods for Lomba. Unlike many heroes destined for greatness, Cathal Kathay was born within the greatest highborn family in the city, House Kathay'rasim.

Born from the union of the Palana, Cathal's father, and her father's second wife, Cathal Kathay was the second legitimate heir to the lordship of the family. As such, she and her brother were given special treatment, even more than most nobles. Cathal was spoiled with rare and interesting objects that sparked interest as well as taught the many formalities and skills expected of a highborn.

Upon her fifteenth birthday, Cathal was allowed to begin traveling with her brother and several half-siblings to represent their house in diplomatic missions. The girl had a knack for the twists and turns of wordplay and doublespeak, and swiftly ascended the rungs of the diplomatic ladder until she was the head representative. In her time as representative, twelve new connections to great or rising families of note were created. Cathal developed a reputation for being efficient. The fact that this was often at the suffering of many of Cathal's “lesser” siblings was conveniently overlooked by most of the family.

During this time, Cathal grew emotionally distant and wary of other sentient beings. The paranoia began when her brother, Armast, longed for the position of head representative once more and hired assassins to dispose of Cathal. Her escape was narrow, and her vengeance swift. Only two years after that incident, Cath's first lover, her fencing tutor Hekkin, was imprisoned for petty theft. Cathal began to realize how much trust could hurt you, how easily bliss could be snatched away.

Each relationship from then on was usually all business, or carefully selected. Even then, her multiple engagements and marriages ended badly each time. Cathal only saw it as a test though, something that only made her stronger. She used it as fuel for her debates. Near the end of her political career, this cold, objective standpoint often had Cathal pitted against the representative of a rival house, Gullani Neha. Cathal won most of these arguments, which usually pitted Gullani vying for the needs and conditions of the poor against production of goods and comfort of the nobles. It was not hard to see why Cathal had the upper hand in these arguments. Cathal liked the girl for her fiery spirit and willingness to contend, but found her compassion for the lesser men and women unsettling.

This was put far out of mind the day Cathal was called before her father. Cathal Kathay was stunned into silence as her brother, whom she thought dead, stared back at her from their father's side. Within the family, assassination to advance one's position was illegal, but not frowned upon so long as you could get away with it. Armast never got to kill his sister, but he bore the scars and further evidence of Jan's counter-assassination. Cathal was summarily exiled with nothing more than a dagger, a sack of rations and a the clothes on her back.

As she watched the gates to her city close, Cathal made a vow to herself. One day she would return, recreate the infrastructure of her home. It was not a thought she had on the spot. Cathal had long grown tired of the oppressive rule of the High-Class, simply because they were born into privilege did not make them fit rulers. Too often did she meet with an incompetent boob that thought himself a lord, or passed a lowborn child reading a book that most nobles could not even pronounce the title of. There were resources that remained untapped in the ranks of majnun society, and Jhanjhavata would be the miner. In retrospect, she thought, Gullani Neha's passion may have bled in to her psyche somewhat.

Over the course of the next seven years, Cathal made her way up to the surface and explored the three continents. She learned many harsh lessons from her pilgrimage. On several occasions Jan has nearly died from starvation, been abducted, attacked and even raped. These experiences only served to fuel the exile's ambition. Through contact with the various inhabitants of Ouranos, Cathal discovered her love of chemical and biological sciences. Practices such as these were all but unheard of in her home, and the notion that things could be created and broken down on a level completely separate from that of magical means was astounding.

This lead Cathal down the path of the saboteur, and she eventually found herself roaming the world as a 'problem-solver' for hire. Problems most often entailed making troublemakers disappear, 'reclaiming' certain sums of money, or staging 'accidents'. All in all, life was solitary, lucrative and good once Cathal got her bearings.

At the end of an escort mission in some backwater town in Anatolia, Jan was walking to the courier station when a horrid groaning caught her attention. Against her better judgment, Cathal leaned over the edge of an open window and...scowled. Below her, writhing on a hospice bed, was a fair young human with a stump where his left arm should have been. She observed the angry red inflamed areas where the flesh abruptly ended, and it was a full minute before the man became aware of his observer. Before he could even begin to question what in the world Cathal was staring at, Cathal reached down and applied a mix of antiseptic herbs to the throbbing wound, drawing the excess blood from his amputated limb and easing his pain.

For the first time in a while, Cathal grinned. Not one of malice or superiority, but genuine amusement for the man that was staring at the globules of blood and pus being purged from his wound. When the initial shock wore off, the man finally spoke. “I...I'm Delas.”

Cathal was a taken back by the innocence and wonder in his eyes. It was that day that Cathal made her first true friend since her exile. From there, her relationship with Delas relationship sparked. At some point Cathal found herself closer to him than she had ever been with anyone. Of course, fate had to spit in her eye. Two missions set in the same time frame, with two completely different goals would serve to tear Cathal from her new love.

It has been three years since that conflict, and Jan is back to her old, cold self. Cathal is a wanderer once more, and is currently finishing up a minor contract for the Spire in Pelopses.

So begins...
