Description

Image
Name - Greyson Andres Fairbaine

Age - Twenty.

Gender/Role - Male/boy 4

Occupation - Thief / landscaping

Appearance - Grey's really not a big guy. Standing around five eleven and weighing what's average for a guy his height, around one-hundred-forty-nine pounds, he probably wouldn't intimidate anybody. And that's not a problem. But working out does give him some muscle. He's built lean like a runner, not big and bulky like someone who was really into lifting weights. His skin is a light shade. Nothing close to pale, and very prone to tanning. The sun can turn him almost brown, especially in the summer. But being half Mexican does that to you. Honestly, Greyson hates tanning. He thinks the dark color looks weird with his eyes, but some people think it looks alright. Pale blue, his eyes aren't as striking as other shades, but some confuse it for grey depending on the lighting. They're often covered up by sunglasses. He has a nice smile, and he has lot's of scars from doing stupid things. Most are small, though, and aren't worth sharing. The most noticeable would be one right below his jaw. The majority of it isn't visible except for the part that curves up, and when he turns to the left, you can see it. It's pink against his skin and the part you see is only a half inch or so long, but when he tans, it really stands out. His hair is russett brown, with the top being a blonde-ish color. His hair use to be a lot darker than it was, but he's lightened it over the years to it's current shade. Not too long ago he dyed part of it blonde, hence the color being in his hair. It's slowly fading away, though. His bangs are combed to the side. Grey keeps his hair cut short, but the length of his bangs is up to how he feels. He has a few tattoo's, including words on his chest and two bands on his arm.

Personality - Greyson is a guy who, despite not always coming off as a ray of sunshine, is actually pretty friendly and likes interacting with people. He doesn't show a lot of emotion, and has trouble showing sympathy to other people. That's why he takes it hard when people he gets close to end up hurting him, but he's still a helpful guy, always making sure those around him are taken care of. He's good at listening and giving advice. Grey's also not shy about giving his opinion on something. However, there are times when his 'older brother' persona melt away. Like when he's doing his 'other job' or with 'other friends'. He can be pretty reckless and carefree at times, giving in to past issues. Grey also has his acting side, the side that allows him to lie and deceive people to get anything and anywhere. Then there are his issues; the depression, being easily distracted, being antsy and not very trusting. Even so, being around his 'family' gives him a reason to keep all of those things in check.

Likes - amusment parks, any type of music (metal is his favorite), italian food, cold weather, grey or rainy days.

Dislikes - Insecure people, uptight people, people who try to control him, nagging people, cats.

Fears - Drowning. As soon as his head goes underwater he panics. With that, he also has a fear of not being able to breathe.

History - Greyson Fairbaine was born in Monterrey, Mexico to his native Mexican mother, Mariana, and his American dad, Wes. His dad was born in Burke, Virginia but later moved to Mexico after his job made him relocate. There he met a young lady he fell in love with instantly, even if she didn’t like him all that much. A few romantic gestures later, they were dating, married, argueing-over-who’s-parents-had-to-pay-for-the-wedding-thanks-to-cultural-differences. You know, the usual love story.

They worked it out and Greyson happened. Since both his parents knew Spanish and they currently lived in Mexico, they decided to teach their son Spanish first. English was spoken, too, but they wanted him to firmly grasp the language he’d be hearing most often. Grey picked it up like any kid would. His life was pretty easy those first few years. He had a nice house, both parents loved him, and he even had a dog. Or was it a rat? That Chihuahua (his mother’s idea) never really liked the little kid. Or anyone, for that matter. Paublo (the dog) was aggressive to strangers, and barked whenever it got the chance. After biting Grey for the fiftieth time, his dad finally sat the dog on the curb in another neighborhood and drove off.

When Grey turned seven his dad told him they were moving back to his hometown in Virginia. Being so young, Grey didn’t really mind. He had friends and loved the city he was in, but moving somewhere else sounded like an adventure. Well, that’s what his dad told him. They packed up and moved to Virginia, living only a few streets down from Grey’s all-American cousins, Chance and Tyler.

It was a shock, to say the least. He didn’t know the language, the weather was cold, he’d never seen so many tree’s, and the place just looked different. Being in a city was no shock to him, but that didn’t make the transition any easier. He was thrown into second grade and had to pick up English quickly because his parents never actually sat down and taught him more than a few basic words. However, it came to him eventually. The boy got use to his new world and the people in it. At this point, he wasn't really considered crazy or anything. He'd occasionally miss a few nights of sleep or act calmer than usual, maybe steal some kids crayons, but nothing alarming.

When he was around seventeen his disorders got really bad. It was around six or seven o'clock and he had just gotten home from hanging out with some friends. As usual, he’d go for a jog. Grey eventually worked his jog into a run, and was timing himself on his watch. As the star of the Cross Country and Track team, he had to keep pushing his limits. Testing himself. He was about to set a personal record when he noticed a car coming down the road. What does he do? Well, Grey didn't even give it a few seconds worth of thought. He turned on his heels right into the street and was hit instantly. He only suffered a concussion and some cuts, but that was when his parents really noticed his issues. After that, he started jumping out of windows, stealing his parents money, getting pulled over for speeding on the freeway. Whatever it took to get a thrill. However, in the midst of all the craziness, he met her. The one. The chick who made him stop and rethink things. Grey fell in love - actual love - with this girl. He wasn't aware that she didn't feel as strongly, and that he was making a fool of himself, but when you're blinded by feelings you don't notice those kinds of things. It was a death blow when she didn't want to get serious and commit. Grey was never one to stay where he wasn't wanted, and quickly left, leaving her and their memories behind him. Maybe that's why Grey started to crash -- emotionally. He'd end up sprawled out on a park bench, silent and utterly emotionless, and have to drag himself home. Well, to the next park bench, or maybe one of insomniac cafe's. He ended up in The Firehouse, and it didn't take long for things to turn around.

So begins...

Emma stared at Greyson. There was no way he actually wanted her to stay. He probably never wanted to see her again. Her plan had been to call Tyler and find him and then they would find somewhere to stay for the night. She wanted Greyson to be part of Colby's life though. Part of her life. Besides, if they were going to play this off as if they were old friends, then turning him down would probably look rude, right?

"Sure, thank you." she said, pulling out her phone. There was one new message from Tyler, who had apparently met some girl and was going to be spending the night with her. What had he expected her to do if Greyson hadn't offered to let her stay? What about Colby? Just go sleep in the street? Without texting him back, she put her phone back in her pocket.

"I'm Emma by the way." She said, rebalancing the sleeping Colby in her arms to extend a hand to the brown haired boy who's name she still didn't know. Maybe this could be good for all of them. If Greyson's friends liked her, it might be easier for them to get along. Just as friends of course, but that would be better than nothing. Colby would need a father eventually. It would only make sense for it to be his real father.

Jessa had been eavesdropping for quite sometime at the bottom of the stairs, smoking a cigarette like nobodies business. She would watch the end light up red and orange, then glance back up the stairs. When it became clear that the girl would stay, she casually walked up there. She knew Zack was there, and part of her was terrified to climb the steps, but she didn't want to be in the kitchen anymore.

"You can stay in my room if you want," Jessa offered. It was clean and drug free (her stuff was hidden everywhere but her room) and as long as the kid didn't bust her guitar she wouldn't have a problem. "I'll probably go out tonight." She added with a shrug. If she ended up not going anywhere she'd just sleep on the couch. It wasn't a big deal.

She purposefully avoided looking at Zack. Something was bothering her, but she didn't know what. So like everything else today, she blamed it on the pregnancy. That had to be it, anyway. She smiled at the other girl. "I'm Jessa, by the way. I probably should have introduced myself first," Jessa cheerfully. "I've kind of been eavesdropping. Sorry about that."

"I'm Zack," the boy replied, grasping Emma's extended hand and shaking it. He shifted his weight onto his other legs as Jessa casually climbed the steps. He knew she would find he was here eventually, but not this soon. He sighed and put his cigarette out in an empty pop can (OOC: is it soda can in the U.S?) near by trying to avoided looking at Jessa. If Emma and the little boy would be staying here, the least he could do was not smoke around them.

As Jessa offered the girl to stay in her room, Zack looked over at Greyson. His face was a little pale and he looked extremely tired. Zack felt bad that he had been so distant from the others lately, he didn't have a clue what was going on in their lives. He exhaled deeply and and turned to the slightly tall boy beside him. "Grey, come chill with me for a bit," Zack said quietly nodded his head towards his bedroom door.

He turned his attention towards Emma, "I'm gonna steal Grey for a bit while you get settled in." Zack motioned for Grey to follow him without trying to look at Jessa but caught a glimpse of her as he turned away. Even completely stressed out, Zack still thought she was beautiful, her long hair draped over her shoulders and her tired eyes still sparkling. His stomach instantly twisted as he walked towards his room and pushed open the door. He knew it was his fault everything had fallen apart between them. He had commitment issues, to say the least, but he missed her. The wild things they used to do together, their carefree attitude; Zack longed for that again.

Greyson followed Zack into his bedroom and shut the door behind them. Zack opened the small window in his room and went over to the little nightstand. The least he could do was see what was up with his friend. "Hey, come sit with me," Zack said patting the bed as he sat down, joint in hand. He watched as Greyson made his way over to the bed and made himself comfortable. The two were pretty close so Zack didn't mind as Greyson sprawled out on his bed while Zack curled himself comfortably next to him. "Want to do the honors?" Zack said holding out the joint and a lighter.

Emma smiled at the girl walking up the stairs. She was really pretty, like she could easily be one of those girls who looked perfect when she woke up in the morning with out an ounce of effort. Emma couldn't help but wonder if it had ever been Greyson's bed that she woke up in. "I'm Emma," she said and laughed a little, "but you probably already heard that from downstairs." There had been no expectation of privacy in an open hallway, so she didn't care that the girl had been eavesdropping. If you could even call it that, Greyson had been pretty loud at points. Besides, it was her house.

Everything seemed to be going okay for the time being. Greyson had calmed down a little, and his friend's seemed nice. The fact that he was okay with her staying was encouraging too. If he was willing to wake up another day with Emma in his life, then maybe he was considering letting Colby in too. They were kind of a package deal now anyways. She nodded at their walking away. It wasn't like she owned Greyson or anything. Far from it actually.

"Is there any chance I could put the little guy down somewhere for now?" Emma said as the boys walked away. If Greyson and his friends wanted to sit around and have a drink or something, she wouldn't say no, but she would need to put Colby down first. Not to mention that it would be a lot easier for him to stay asleep if he was in a quiet room. Colby was never much fun in the morning if he didn't get enough sleep.

Well, everyone else seemed to like Emma and Colby. Jessa finally walked in the hallway, but it probably wasn't that hard to listen in the kitchen and get interested in what was going on. She offered to let Emma and Colby stay in her room. That was pretty nice of her. Grey would have to thank her later. Plus, he didn't have to introduce anyone to anybody now. It was like everyone else was handling his issues for him. Hey, they were doing a good job, though, so he didn't mind. Before Grey could say anything, Zack invited him over, and it's not like he was going to refuse. He'd already caught up with Emma and Jessa, it wouldn't hurt to see how Zack was doing. The two had been a lot closer than this before. Maybe it was just time making them drift apart slightly, despite living in the same run down 'house.'

Grey walked into Zack's room and layed out on the bed, folding his arms behind his head and watching as Zack moved about the room. First opening the window, then coming back to the bed with a joint in hand. Grey had to laugh at that one; Zack always had something good around, and he wasn't going to pass it up. He hadn't smoked, inhaled, snorted, or drank anything in a month or so. Not a health freak or anything, Grey just liked to wake up with a clear head and actually be aware of what was going on around him. Deep down inside, he kind of hoped everyone else in the Firehouse would cool it, just a little, with all the drugs use. But he wasn't any of their parents, and didn't plan on preaching to them about their drug habits. He already had his own kid.

"Hell, yeah," Grey took the joint and the lighter. Lighting it was such a familiar feeling, along with actually smoking it. Grey pulled it away from his mouth and passed it over to Zack, raising an eyebrow. No reason to beat around the bush. "What's up with you and Jessa?" he asked. From the scared look she had only moments ago to the look he gave her just now, he wasn't sure what was going on. Yeah, the two hadn't spoken, but it didn't feel like they hated each other.

"What's up with you and Jessa?" The words Zack didn't want to hear filled his ears. He sighed out the smoke he held in his lungs. Should he tell Grey? They were really close after all, but would Jessa freak if she found out? And wasn't it selfish to spill his guts to Grey when clearly he had shit going on to? Zack took another hit off the joint before passing it back to the tan boy lying on his bed. Zack leaned back on the wall and stretched his legs out on the bed.

"I don't know man, I fucked things up with her." Zack closed his eyes and rested his arms on his knees. "I mean, we had a thing going and we ended up, you know, fucking, but I shouldn't have. You know how I am with girls." It was true, Zack had never had a real relationship with anyone before and Greyson knew it too. He didn't know how, not since his parents abandoned him. All he ever knew was exactly what his father had showed him through example, bring a woman home, fuck her, then never see her again. That's exactly what he'd been doing up until he met Jessa; Sleeping with woman far older than him while higher than a kite.

Meeting Jess had set something off though. Zack wanted to help her escape the awful abuse at home and have her enjoy her life. He introduced her to hard drugs, loud music and a wild lifestyle. Sex, drugs and rock and roll essentially. It was the only he knew but he wanted her to be happy, he wanted to do anything for the girl he loved. Instead of making things better things seemed to be running out of control. Zack didn’t understand how to be in a relationship. He felt as if now, he didn’t know how to protect Jess from anything. Especially this pregnancy…

Zack shook his head. "I'll figure it out," was all he offered. He didn't want to burden Grey with his problems right now. Grey looked pretty worn down himself. "Enough about me. I haven't seen you look this bad in a while." Zack reached out and set his hand on the boy's tan forehead. "What's going on with you? Is it that girl and her kid?" Zack looked at him raising an eyebrow. He may be high but asking his friend about his problems was better than dealing with his own for the time being. "Tell me, I'm worried about you."

Grey stared up at the ceiling, listening to what Zack said after he re-positioned himself on the bed. They ended up fucking, huh? Well, Grey couldn't say he was surprised. Not only did he know how Zack was with girls, he knew how everyone in the Firehouse was, and most relationships here didn't end without something going on. But people could change a life style if they really wanted to; they showed people like that on TV all the time. If Zack really wanted to treat women differently, Grey was sure he could. And if he treated them differently, maybe he'd find a better chick he'd want to be with. Though, it wasn't hard to see how hung up on Jessa he was. He actually looked legitimately upset about them having difficulties. Then Zack suddenly brushed the conversation off, putting a hand on Grey's forehead and asking him about Emma and Colby. Really, how was he supposed to help Zack if the kid didn't even want to talk a little more about his issue? "Don't use that same excuse, man," Grey interjected, even if the topic had changed from Zack to him. He hoped Zack knew what he meant - it didn't matter how he was with girls, he just needed to put in some effort and change.

"But, yeah," he nodded, figuring there wasn't any use in lying. "It's got something to do with Emma and her kid, Colby." He laughed slightly, not really sure how to put the words together. Should he just tell Zack? It was him, after all, and Grey's situation with Emma seemed to be calming down. And they'd want to know eventually. Why some girl and her kid knew Grey, and had showed up out of the blue. Then again, if he told Zack, would he have to tell everyone else? "She's just my crazy ex, coming back to talk about things." Grey raised an eyebrow and shrugged, "well, I guess she's not crazy, but, yeah." Grey cracked a smile and thought about it. What harm would come in telling Zack about what was really up between him and Emma? Maybe that would even get Zack to tell him what was really going on between he and Jessa.

"You know what, fuck it, that's my kid," Grey didn't know why he said it, but he threw his hands up and he felt fine. No buildings exploded, no kittens died, and he was still alive. He even had one less secret to hide, and he didn't even have to tell Zack he left Emma. Grey didn't exactly think that piece of information would make his 'you can change yourself' case any stronger. "I feel free," he smiled. One person down, four more to go. He wondered what Jessa and Emma were talking about, too, since he was sure something would be brought up about him and Emma's relationship. Wait, was Emma okay with other people knowing?

Emma smiled at the comment about the father being a fool to not want to be a part of Colby's life. She hoped he would want to be a part of Colby's life. Even if he was just a weekend visit here and there, that would be better than nothing, right? Then again, maybe that little contact would be worse then nothing. What if Colby started questioning why his Dad didn't want to spend more time with him? It would be a lot healthier mentally to just say something like 'Oh, he's a great guy, but I was never able to track him down.' Maybe he could be an astronaut who got stuck out in space, or a police officer who got shot on the job. He could even be a soldier killed in battle.

Emma pushed the thoughts out of her mind. Greyson would want to be a part of Colby's life. If he didn't, he would have sent her away by now, right? That's what she decided to tell herself. There was no reason to start hypothetically killing him off yet.

Wait, pregnant? she thought as Jessa confessed. There was no way this girl was pregnant, was there? "An abortion?" Emma said, ignoring her attempt at changing the subject, "are you sure?" It seemed a little early to be deciding on that. Not that Emma hadn't considered it for herself, but it just didn't feel right. There were so many other options and other ways to deal with a pregnancy.

"Sorry." Emma said, folding her hands in her lap. She knew nothing about this girl. Nothing about her situation. Who was she to tell Jessa what to do with her baby? That decision should be left completely up to her and the father. The father? Could it possibly be Greyson? No, there was no way that could happen.

Zack was listening intently on what Grey was saying. So Emma was his ex then. It made sense, how he was acting then. Zack knew what it was like to be uncomfortable around someone you previously had a relationship with. Zack nodded in agreement with Greyson's words as he puffed on the joint that was slowly shrinking. The thought of who Colby's father hadn't occurred to him until Grey through up his hands. "You know what, fuck it, that's my kid."

"Sorry, what? I thought you just said your kid, but it must be the drugs screwing with my hearing," Zack turned his head in disbelief to stare and the tanned boy. He examined him with his eyes. A smile slowly appeared on Grey's face. He must kidding or a whack-job, otherwise he wouldn't be smiling like that. At least in Zack's mind, that was the only explanation for the boy's ridiculous reaction. Unless he had always known about having a child, but he wouldn't have kept it all this time from Zack would he? They were best friends. Surely this must have been recent news to Grey.

"I feel free," were the only words Zack's tall friend uttered afterwards. Zack's mind was running a marathon for the third or fourth time that day. His best friend had a kid? That he didn't know about? When was he even with this girl? Did she leave him or the other way around? Then it hit Zack like a freight train. He had a child too. An unborn, but still alive child. Growing inside Jessa no less. His mind froze as he thought of the tiny life he had created. Could he really let Jess go through with the abortion? At first he thought it was his only option but a feeling was tugging at his heartstrings. He didn't want to be an awful father, but did that mean he didn't deserve the chance to prove himself worthy?

Zack snapped his mind back to the situation at hand. "You're serious aren't you?" Zack's eyes softened as he looked right into Grey's to make sure he wasn't lying. But much to his dismay, he knew his friend was telling the truth. "I won't say a word," Zack spoke quietly. He shifted on the bed slightly and grabbed onto Greyson's forearm. "I need to tell you something too, but I have to hang on to you or I might float away." Zack's mind felt like he was detached from reality, his stomach twisted into a knot. Suddenly he felt nauseous again and leaned over the bed, gripping onto Greyson harder, expecting to vomit but instead all that came out was word vomit. "Jessa's pregnant with my baby."

Grey couldn't help laughing at Zack's reaction to the news. It was weird, though, how Grey seemed to feel more at ease telling it than Zack was by hearing it. He knew Zack had turned to stare at him, taking a break from the joint he had nearly finished. Was it that hard to believe? Then again, Grey didn't bring many girls around the Firehouse, and he didn't tell anyone about Emma until now, so maybe it was hard to believe. He thought it over, a tight smile growing on his face. Either way, it was funny how Zack reacted. "I wouldn't lie about this, bro," he shrugged as Zack thought it over. He probably had a million questions, wondering why Grey hadn't told him earlier. If the positions were flipped, he would wonder the same question. Then again, there was something that Zack wasn't telling him. If they switched roles, what would Grey get thrown into? He stopped thinking about that when Zack quietly mentioned he wouldn't tell anybody, and Grey was thankful for that. He'd find a way to tell everyone in his own time, if he ever got around to telling them. Sometimes it just wasn't as easy to talk to everybody as it was to talk to Zack.

When Zack grabbed onto his forearm, Grey looked over at him, slightly worried. He might float away? He didn't look as calm or mellowed out as Grey thought he'd be, and it was alarming, honestly. He'd re-positioned himself, looking sick. Like whatever he was dying to say - or dying to keep from saying - was a virus that had invaded his system and was making him weaker. Without warming, he made Grey's thought come to life as he leaned over the bed, about to throw up. Grey sat up instantly, using his free hand to grab Zack's shoulder and keep him from completely falling over the side of the bed. What was up with him? Was he really sick? All that time he was gone today; had he gotten some bad drugs? The answer came all too suddenly.

Grey almost let Zack go completely. Him and Jessa? That's what all the tension was about? He remembered his friend hanging there and grabbed him again, unsure of how good a hold Zack really had on his arm. Jessa was pregnant? That would really explain what he saw earlier, her eating away her pain in the kitchen. He shook slightly, resisting the urge to call Zack stupid, careless, irresponsible, something of the like. Everyone in the Firehouse may have been close to the same age, but Grey felt protective of all of them, and hated when they screwed up, when they got stupid drunk, when they were close to over dosing, or just too dependent on the drugs they blew their money on. Sure, Grey wasn't a saint, but he took it personally when they got themselves into trouble. This was no exception. Or was it? He wasn't yelling, just silently letting whatever frustration he felt melt away in it's own time. Zack was 'sick' enough as it was. Yelling was not going to help him. He really needed someone to talk to, someone who'd help. Grey really wasn't there for this part of his relationship with Emma, but he could almost relate to the overwhelming rush of surprise, the new responsibility. It must have been scary now. At least Colby was two, and Emma had something going for her. Zack and Jessa were pretty much thrown to the sharks.

"You need to go talk to her," Grey told him, begging slightly. He pulled Zack back onto the bed. He didn't think he'd throw up, or at least hoped he'd have enough speed to get out of the way if it happened. "She's convinced you hate her, and I know you don't. You can't walk off like I did, go talk it out before you wreck your relationship." He grabbed Zack by the shoulders and looked straight at him. For a split second, what he had accidentely let slip out registered in his head, but Grey shook that thought away. It didn't matter. He wasn't sure what Zack and Jessa planned to do with their kid, but Grey hoped they could at least work things out between them. Keep their friendship, or whatever that had, intact. He really didn't want to see them end up like him and Emma.

Looking into his friends eyes, all Zack saw was a look of seriousness. Grey was right, he needed to talk to Jessa before he let everything slip away. The last thing Zack wanted was for Jess to feel hated. She'd already felt like that her whole life, he needed to be the one there fore her. Zack blinked down at the floor as he tried to process Greyson's words. His chocolate eyes fixated on a CD case that lay on the ground.

Grey's shaking voice made Zack look at him from his peripherals. Zack knew him, he wouldn't have walked out purposely on a child, Grey was to noble for that. Himself, on the other hand, had been acting like a complete coward. The brunette's lack of focus was shattered when Grey grabbed him a hold of his shoulders and stared into his eyes. Zack's glossy, red eyes looked back at him as he nodded, giving the sign that he would talk with Jessa.

As Zack began to rise from the bed in hopes of crossing the hallway, his legs immediately gave out from beneath him. He fell to floor with a thud. The dizziness that filled his head made the room spin before him. Zack reached to his face and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. Blood. The sticky red substance appeared over his hand. He must have his jaw directly off the floor. Zack lay his head back on the floor, it was clear to him that the joint had been the last straw for the day. This was not an unusual occurrence for Zack, he body was wracked with drugs and it refused to keep moving.

Above him, Zack saw the outline of Grey, hovering over him. He couldn't make out words he was saying and all Zack could mumble was "Tomorrow." Grey would know what he meant. He would talk with Jess tomorrow when he could stand. He wouldn't be the coward his father was, he would be a man and make everything right. Those were the last thoughts that drifted through Zack's mind before his tired eyes closed and he fell asleep.

"Dammit, Zack," Grey huffed when the boy fell over, only a few steps from the bed. He knew, when someone in this house fell over, it was usually because of drugs or them being drunk. He slid off the bed, watching Zack move a little. Was he getting up? He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and blood came off. Tomorrow. Tomorrow he'd talk to Jessa? Well, at least he was serious about it. Falling flat on your face and still thinking about her had to mean something serious. Grey walked over, leaning down to pick up the boy before he could do any more damage to himself. It didn't look like he'd knocked a tooth loose, which was good. Most of the blood had been wiped off with Zack's hand, and being no doctor, Grey figured it was okay for him to go to sleep without putting some kind of bandage on that. Well, if that could be bandaged up.

After laying Zack on the bed, Greyson sighed and left the room, heading for the kitchen. He didn't really have to think about anything as he grabbed a cup and filled it with water, slowly drinking it. The silence was oddly comforting. He knew Jessa and Emma were talking in the other room, but couldn't hear them in the kitchen. He also knew Zack didn't really snore, but he kind of wished he did, just to break the silence and give Greyson something to laugh about later. Right now, he just leaned against the counter, one hand gripping the cup, the other on the counter, and stared out in front of him. This was actually something he did from time to time - hang around in the kitchen when everyone else had cleared out. It gave him time to think, you know? But sometimes he realized, when all the noise and drama was taken away, he didn't have much to mull over once he was by himself. With both the external world and his own mind silenced, all that was left was calm. He felt chill.

But of coarse he'd have to work tomorrow. The thought made him roll his eyes involuntarily as he sat the cup in the sink and made his way back to Zack's room. More than likely he'd call in sick. Not like he worked a full eight hours anyway now that they'd hired extra help. He'd chew someone out for that eventually, but right now he wanted to drop on the ground like Zack and sleep. Sounded so much better than being awake right now. Grey flopped onto the free space on the bed and closed his eyes, falling asleep a while later.

Zack groaned into his arm when the sun spilled in from his window, waking him. He attempted to shield his eyes with his arms before reaching over to grab a pillow. Instead, his hand felt the warm body lying next to him. Zack was momentarily confused before he moved his hands to see Greyson curled up facing the opposite direction. As he made himself lift up his head, he felt a dull pain from his mouth. Zack touched his lips gently. They stung a bit but the damage wasn't too serious. Figures he'd end up crashing so hard after everything that had happened the day before.

He attempted to climb over the sleep boy without waking him. After successfully climbing out of bed, Zack grabbed some fresh clothes and headed towards the bathroom. He made sure to quiet his steps in case anyone else was still sleeping. A loud yawn escaped Zack's mouth as he slid into the shower. It was already steamy in the small room, someone else had already gotten up. If it was Jessa, it would give Zack the opportunity to be alone with her for the time being to talk with her. The idea wasn't his most favourite, especially after just waking up, but it couldn't wait any longer. His most comfortable boxers and jeans were all he decided to throw on for the time being as he made his way down the quiet hallway.

A faint melody could be heard coming from the bottom of the stairs. Zack knew it was Jessa playing her guitar downstairs. It was one of the many things he admired about the girl. He heard soft rustling from Jessa's room. That's right, he silently remembered Emma and Colby in the room adjacent to his. The events of the previous night were a haze as Zack had trouble recalling them. He quietly entered his room to discard the dirty clothes when he remembered what day it was. Grey had to get up for work and so did Jess. He shook his head, he'd have to wait until after Emma and Grey left before he could talk to Jess more privately. Making his way over to the bed, Zack placed both his hands on Grey's arm and began to shake him softly. "Hey bro, you need to get up." It was times like this Zack wished Greyson wasn't a deep sleeper, though he was surprised he himself was up. On a normal day he'd be sleeping until afternoon.

After waking his tired friend from his bed, Zack made his way downstairs. It was time to finally bite the bullet and talk to her, no matter how hard. He made his way into the kitchen where Jessa was making toast. "Mornin'..." he said before wandering to the fridge and pulling out a beer. He popped off the lid before wetting his lips with the cool liquid. "Hey Jess, I think we should...talk."

Greyson woke up to the sound of Zack's voice, and being shaken. Oh yeah... he had work. He huffed as he rolled off the bed and onto his feet in one motion, looking around. Zack must have just stepped out. And it was quiet around him. He figured everyone else was already up, though, since Jessa had work, Emma had Colby, and Zack said he'd talk to Jessa. Greyson made a mental note to go talk to Emma. He kind of wanted to know what she had planned, where she was taking Colby. More than likely they were going back to Tyler's apartment. It's not like there was much to do around here. Grey picked up his shoes from the floor and walked off towards the his bedroom. He'd already left his work clothes in a pile in the corner of the bathroom, and since he just had the one work shirt, he needed some more jeans and such to complete the 'uniform'.

After grabbing what he needed from his room, Grey walked into the bathroom and slipped into the shower. Someone else had already used it before him, as shown by the amount of steam on the mirror and around the room. He quickly washed himself off and dried off, changing into his jeans, tan work shirt, and a pair of Nike's. He hoped it wouldn't be as hot today, but he already knew that wouldn't change in a day. Once the mirror cleared up, he ran a hand through his hair before putting on his hat. And, finally, he was done for the morning. Grey stepped out of the bathroom and looked around. Jessa and Zack were talking in the kitchen. He didn't see Emma and Colby, though. Were they still in Jessa's room? She was welcome to come out and make herself at home, you know, as 'at home' as you could make yourself in a place like this.

Greyson knocked on the door a few times before opening it and leaning against the frame. "Anything you need before I head out?" he asked, folding his arms. She'd probably want to talk anyway, and he had some time before he really needed to get to work.

Emma looked up as Greyson walked in. She smiled, "you should wear hats more often." It was a miracle that Colby wasn't awake yet. Usually he was up way before Emma, bouncing around and creating a ruckus. Seeing as he was still asleep though, now seemed like as good a time as any to talk to Greyson.

"Actually yeah," she said, patting the floor next to her for him to come sit. "What do you want me to do today?" Emma asked. She waited a couple seconds for him to respond before realizing she should probably elaborate a little.

"I mean, do you want us to hang around? Should I get to know your friends, or do you want me to stay away from them? Or do you want us to leave for a couple days so you have some time to think things over?" Emma said, then paused. There was another option, but she was scared to offer it. Once it was offered, there was always a chance Greyson would take it. "Do you want us to just go home and pretend we never came in the first place?" It wasn't the ideal option, but it wasn't up to her.

Emma just sat there, staring at Greyson. Colby rolled over in his sleep, but didn't wake up. Which reminded her, where had Tyler gone last night. If Greyson wanted them to leave, she could always just take Colby back to the park until Ty turned up. If Ty turned up. There were some diners around town too, or at least Emma seemed to remember seeing some on the way in. She could go get breakfast somewhere in town or something.

Greyson laughed softly at Emma's hat comment as he walked over to sit down next to her. He was about to answer her first question when she came up with another. Then another. Then another. Grey sat there quietly, waiting for her to get done with her questions. He looked over at her to realise she was staring back and Greyson just gave a shrug. She had a mind, didn't she? He didn't need to tell her where to go. Honestly, he wasn't sure if they'd worked out the whole Colby situation, but she was welcome to stay if she wanted, or welcome to go. Grey didn't have a preference. Although, it didn't seem like a good place to keep a little kid. Glass, drugs, potential arguements. Nothing positive for a kid who would probably end up absorbing everything like some kind of sponge. But his thoughts went back to Tyler. He probably needed his own space. Away from his younger sister and young nephew. No one could blame him. Pretend we never came in the first place? Really, why did she have to throw that one out there? He thought they were passed all of that. Still, he didn't give any specific reactions or suggestions, sticking with a simple, "I don't know." Grey looked at Colby, then her. "You can do whatever's convenient."

He gave her a small smile, popping one of his knuckles. "There's food and stuff down stairs if you're hungry; you don't have to be stuck in Jessa's room all day," Grey told her, laughing a little. He saw just about everyone up and about except for her, so he thought he'd address it if she was afraid to do anything. It wasn't as dangerous a place as it seemed, and Grey figured Emma was more than capable of making herself some breakfast. "Might wanna wait until Zack and Jessa are done talking, though."

Emma nodded, still not very hungry. She couldn't tell if Greyson had misunderstood her question, or if he just didn't have an answer. It wasn't that she wanted permission to leave or stay, she wanted to know what he wanted. In terms of Colby and their situation and everything of course. The 'what should I do today' question was supposed to be a veiled attempt at asking 'what happens next'.

"Wait, it's Zack?" Emma said without thinking. She hadn't meant to say it, she wasn't even sure if Greyson would understand what she was talking about. Jessa did say she was going to talk to the father of the baby though. So Zack was the father? Weird, after the way he looked out for her and Colby's safety last night, she hadn't pegged him as a guy that would push for an abortion. Then again, if he had over done it last night he might have said some things he didn't mean.

With a straight face, Emma pushed past her accidental outburst. "So, I guess we'll be around when you get home then?" she said as Colby slowly opened his eyes. He crawled over on the bed so he was directly above where Emma and Greyson sat.

"Morning Mumma! Morning Greyson!" He said kneeling up, his words slurred and mumbled a tad with sleep. His hands fumbled at his eyes as he yawned and fell back down onto the bed. "Boom!" He said excitedly. It was something Tyler had done as he was learning to walk. Every time Colby fell Tyler would say 'boom!' and Colby would laugh. Tyler stopped saying it when Colby learned to walk, but Colby still said it from time to time when he fell.

Greyson only needed a second to figure out her little outburst. So she and Jessa had been talking about Zack last night? It finally seemed like everyone was almost on the same page around here. He wondered when she'd find out Zack also knew about their secret. Or did she feel comfortable enough to tell Jessa, too? It didn't really look like a possibility, since she was willing to lie last night, when he saw her and Zack in the bathroom. Apparently she planned on staying, though. Grey just nodded, unsure what to say about it. It's not like she'd have anywhere to go in this new place, and it would probably get boring for her if she had to walk around all day. It made sense why she'd stay; Grey didn't think it was because she wanted to talk or anything. Hadn't they done enough already? Thinking it over, maybe that was her motive behind not leaving. "Yeah, I guess you will," he answered.

Then Colby woke up and started moving around on top of the bed. Despite mumbling and being weighed down with sleep, Colby told them both good morning, even sounded excited as he did so. Grey half smiled at that. Leave it to kids to be blissfully unaware of the problems around them. And they never had to fake happiness. It was natural for them, like smiling and falling down. He didn't bother to ask what the whole boom thing was about. "Hey, Colby," he greeted.

Greyson stood up and stretched out his arms, not wanting to sit any longer than necessary. "I'll be back eventually, later, guys," he waved them off as he left the room. He wanted to get out there before he was late. And you don't want to give your boss a reason to fire you, right? Grey walked through the Firehouse on silent feet, not wanting to disturb anybody, despite there only being four other people in the house, all of which were up and awake. Still, it was more of a habit than anything else. Most people were asleep - passed out, in some cases - when he woke up for work. Well, Jessa was usually up. It was kind of weird being on the other side of things, though. Grey walked out the back door and went on with his usual routine. Buy a donut at that place on the corner (appropriately named Donuts), then sit on the curb while he waited on his ride. That's kind of how they did things at his work. One guy would come around and pick everybody up. Saved Grey a lot of trouble. He'd left his car back home, and there was no way he was going all the way back for it. For all he knew, maybe a friend had found the keys and was driving it, or his parents sold it when they realized he wasn't coming back. Either way, it'd be a waste of time to go back and find his ride gone.

A White truck with the company log on the side pulled up and Grey was on his feet again, not waiting for it to slow to a complete stop. Joey rolled down his window to say hi, and Grey waved, hoping in the back with the other guys. Five hours. In the sun. Mowing grass and trying not to get bit by snakes. It was almost funny.
