September First - Arriving at Hogwarts - Start of Term
Cloudy (overcast) - Medium temperature - Rain in the evening - Gusty

ImageImage
The sky hung heavy over the castle, bearing down upon it and closing it off from the outside world. The clouds were only just beginning to open up as the carriages picked their way across the grounds of Hogwarts, and something about the air pressure this year was different. Lee Jordan recognized the feeling here from long ago, this was a kind of hush he hadn't felt in his bones for more than two decades. Still, most of the students seemed unaffected by the feeling of dread in the Headmaster's gut, so he dismissed it.
There had been no problems with the train, nor any with the carriages, and under the lake the squid slowly stirred, rising a single eye to look up at the dark wool clouds and decide that it was best to stay underwater. Somewhere a thestral screeched and a hippogriff near Hagrid's old shack returned the call.
As the first carriage reached the castle and the students began to pile out, a beam of lightning arced across the sky, crackling in a semicircle across the far southern horizon. The headmaster turned from his window as an owl crossed it, and returned to his preparations for the feast.
By the time the sorting began everything was normal; the feeling had died down in Lee Jordan's gut, and he was able to sit comfortably before his students, slowly filing in and sitting at their house's table. He smiled. He'd convinced himself; this would simply be another year. Perhaps even the kind of year Hogwarts used to see; brave and exciting and full.

ALBUS SEVERUS POTTER
Great Hall - ~200 words - Open/Not interacting
Albus never had an easy time with the beginning of term feast, or with any of them,
really. He didn't like the crowds, nor the noise, and they were usually so much more
intense than dinner or the classes taught in the Great Hall. It didn't help that the room
itself echoed so ominously or that the new first years always clamored and chattered
away until their nerves died down. It wasn't necessarily that he hadn't done the same,
and Albus didn't blame them for it, but entering the great hall still hit him with a sense
of fear and anxiety that he couldn't quite explain and that he didn't want any part in.
It was all he could do not to turn tail and run right that second, back to the Slytherin
dorm so he could find his things and disappear into his bed and maybe find Scorpius.
Scorpius! Right, that might make things better, having a friend around. He gave the
tables a cursory glance, quick and uncertain, before skittering to the very corner at the
very end of the Slytherin table and then taking the seat one to the center of the table
from it. The snake in his breast pocket stirred quietly before poking her nose out and
letting her tongue flap and rattle through the air. Albus gently pressed her nose back
down into his pocket and looked around nervously, trying to spot someone he knew.

LOUIS WILLIAM WEASLEY
Great Hall - ~200 words - Open/Not interacting
Louis was being stubborn. Slightly more stubborn than usual, but this book he'd picked
up for the train was incredibly good and he just couldn't exactly bring himself to drag
his attention away from it for long enough not to trip and fall on his face (and the book
he'd been holding in front of it from the moment he sat down on the train right through
until he'd attempted to get off the carriage). Standing up and grumbling curses to himself,
Louis retrieved his book from the mud and glared up at the sky as it started to drizzle.
He flicked some mud from the dustjacket of his book and started the short trek into the
Great Hall. He didn't appreciate the naming nor the huge array and amount of people in
the room, but Louis also elected not to care at the moment. He found a seat near the
center of the Gryffindor table and set himself down with a grunt before opening the book
again over his plate and cursing when he realized he'd gotten mud on his plate. Frustrated,
he closed the book and glared around the room, shooting the first years a cocked eyebrow
and a look of slight distrust. One of them shuddered and Louis couldn't help but laugh a little
to himself before looking around at the rest of the Gryffindors and saying a few quiet hellos.

{Great Hall, Open}

To say that Minah was happy to be back at Hogwarts for the new school term would be something of an understatement. Even with summer classes to occupy her mind and time, the young woman had often found her mind wandering back to the place that had become a second home to her. Her family had not failed to notice this, or the fact that their daughter seemed to be drifting further away from them with each passing school year, pulled away by a world of fantastic things they had not thought possible before strange things had begun to happen around Minah in her childhood. Perhaps this is normal for the children of muggleborns, this distance created between child and family, or perhaps it is simply Minah's desire to surround herself with this magical community that pulls her gradually further away. Right now, thoughts of such things are quite far from the mind of the Ravenclaw girl.

Rather, her current thoughts are split between two topics: A) the food that will be served at this year's feast, and B) trying to locate one of her friends. Malina hasn't arrived at the Ravenclaw table yet, it seems, and Cara is also out of sight --most likely, she is among her fellow Gryffindors. Somewhat disappointed, Minah returns to the Ravenclaw table. Half of the students there are engaged in conversation, and the other half seem to be trying to start their studies a bit early, with various books finding homes on the long wooden table. Minah cannot help but smile, at least a little, at this familiar sight. It feels like home- warm and inviting.

Not having a book on her [and not finding the Great Hall to be a suitable place for reading at the moment], Minah joins a conversation between two fellow sixth year Ravenclaws, Robert Salmon and Cynthia Perringer. They had invited her to sit in their compartment in the train on the trip here, and having not found Cara, the girl had agreed. Their current conversation is a continuation of that which had begun in the compartment, talking about classes and the books they had needed to purchase for class this year and whatnot. This would be their first year taking NEWT courses, and many of the Ravenclaw students were looking forward to the challenges of these advanced classes. Robert and Cynthia can easily be counted amongst these students.

Minah contributes to the conversation enough to still be considered part of it, but as she does so her eyes occasionally scan the Great Hall for specific faces. When Robert and Cynthia begin speaking about the NEWT level Muggle Studies class they are taking, Minah begins to mentally check out of the conversation more thoroughly. Nothing could possibly bore her more than a class that only talks about things that she already knows. Occasionally they ask her questions about muggles, well-intended but still very dull, and Minah will respond politely, but it would prove difficult to re-engage her in this conversation.

A start of a new school year meant new memories and new friends to Cara. The young witch sat at the end of the Gryffindor table conversing with some of her fellow gryffindors about last years quidditch cup and how awesome her brother Leon did. Cara wasn't as lively tonight as usual, most of it because she hadn't gotten nearly any sleep last night due to the fact that she stayed up half the night star gazing. The witch was half into the conversation and half dozing off but she couldn't help it, all they talked about was her brother and how good and awesome he is. Cara saw him almost everyday when she was at home so she really doesn't want to talk about him in school. This morning she almost missed the train for waking up late and to top it off she couldn't find Minah in the crowded train to save her life so she just took an empty cart and ended up falling asleep the whole way here.

Cara let out deep sigh as she ruffled her hair in frustration. She couldn't concentrate on the conversation that was held in front of her because she didn't find it interesting and her focus was affected by her lack of sleep. Inside her head she was wondering about all her classes this year and how excited she was for her advanced potions class she chose but soon her mind just couldn't think anymore. Cara rested her head on her right hand, her eyes growing heavy. Come on Cara, stay awake. she said in her head in slight frustration. Lifting her head up from her hand she noticed a familiar face in the next table over. It was Minah but she was talking with some of her fellow housemates. Cara still made the effort to get her attention by waving her hand in the air towards her.

As is only natural, for him at least, Fred had been in a compartment packed to full capacity on the trip here, with three people in each bench. Occasionally, another person would stop by and join in on the fun that was inevitable in the compartment, squeezing in and crowding the place a bit. For his part, Fred never minded- he revels in the presence of others and the liveliness of conversation and jokes with good friends. Besides, more people meant it was easier to give away the snacks his mum had packed him for the trip. It wasn't that his mom hadn't given him good stuff --it was sort of reminiscent of a lunchbox-- but that he isn't really one to eat lunch. He never has been- the young man typically eats medium sized breakfasts, skips lunch, and has a small dinner. Despite the fact that every moment seems to be filled with animated gestures and actions, he runs on relatively little fuel. He once jokingly told someone that he feeds off of atmosphere, and doesn't need something so common as physical sustenance. It was a typical sort of Fred thing to be said, really.

His spirited attitude persisted as the students changed into their robes and were dropped off at Hogwarts, to be taken in the carriages up to the main castle. While others may cringe at the deafening roar that the Great Hall contains, he contributes to it, telling jokes and greeting friends as he walks by. By seventh year, its only natural that one should have friends in each of the houses. This includes Slytherin, despite the old rivalry between Gryffindor and the ambitious house. Seeing one friend, who has been called Beaks for so long that no one can actually recall where he got the nickname in the first place, as his nose is rather run-of-the-mill, Fred walks up to him with a grin.

"Hey, man. How was New York?" he asks, knowing his friend's family had visited the family across the pond over the summer. Beaks talks about some show or another that his mom made him go to [but that Fred thinks sounds pretty interesting], and about other such things. He cracks a joke towards the end that gets Fred laughing for a good couple of minutes- a reason for why Beaks and Fred get along so well. That, and Beaks has let Fred copy his homework on more than one occasion, making him golden as far as Fred's concerned.

Spotting his cousin across the way, at the Gryffindor table, Fred bids the Hufflepuff ado and makes his way through throngs of reunions and chatting, only to end up at the table of his own house. He manages to catch the corner of one of Louis's killing looks, and raises an eyebrow at that. Taking the long way around, Fred sneaks up behind Louis as quietly as he can manage, before suddenly putting his hands on the boy's shoulders. "Keep scowling like that, and it'll stick that way. That's what happened to Filch," he cautioned Louis, referring to the Hogwarts' caretaker, whom students are expecting to suddenly drop dead someday, given how ancient he is by now. There have been petitions signed to encourage his retirement- all of them were denied. He's a permanent fixture of the school, at this point. Fred is quite certain that Filch will come back and still be the caretaker once he's died, as a ghost.

Minah is quite happy when she sees Cara waving at her to catch her eye, and is none too apologetic in excusing herself from the conversation between Cynthia and Robert. The two had started leaning in slightly while speaking, despite the fact that they were standing, and she had begun to worry that they would start snogging right in front of her. It's very concerning stuff, really, and what with all of the first years about and whatnot. If it does start happening, Minah will have to be the one to break them up --which is why she is more than happy to distance herself from the looming threat.

Besides, she had been looking for Cara in the first place. "Cara! How've you been?"
she says cheerily, only just then realizing that the Gryffindor girl is technically in the middle of a conversation with a couple of other students. She smiles at them, tongue sort of sticking out between her teeth, which is just a little sort of habit she has.

"Ah, sorry for the interruption," this is what she says, but based on the fact that she doesn't move away, and is still smiling quite amicably, she isn't planning on exiting the area. This throws doubt about the sincerity of her apology, but she doesn't seem overly concerned. She might've been, if she'd at least known the names of the people before her. The girl is social, but quite atrocious with names and faces, easily being someone's best friend for the length of a party, and completely forgetting their face the next day.

Malina {Grand Hall/Not Interacting}

Image

A long sigh left Malina's lips as she rested her head upon the table, the idea of sleep lingered over her head like a puffy rain cloud. She was picturing that she was on a hammock with a really intriguing book, somewhere deep in the woods where the sun sparkles through the trees. Yet the sounds of the Grand Hall were too over powering and seemed to drag her back into reality. She groaned.

What she wouldn't give for a nice relaxing bath and some serious Z's. Malina never slept well the day before going back to Hogwarts, too many thoughts were normally clouding her mind, keeping her awake till dawn broke over the horizon.

In all honesty, and anxiety put aside, the brunette couldn't be happier to be back at school, the dull summer of muggle life seemed to drag on and she had been looking for some excitement. Malina had spent almost all of her summer working at a pastry store, only a few blocks from her house, and under the employment of a old crabby Russian lady named Ruth Kotch. The eight hour shifts were long, and brutal, filled with Ruth normally yelling and throwing things in the back, but as soon as Malina clocked out, she would end up walking over to her best friend Annalisse's house, and they would normally spend the rest of the day together. Although it was fun to spend time away from studying, magic, and the chaos of Hogwarts, Malina still found it hard to comply with the muggle world after being exposed to the wizard world.

Dragging herself out of her own thoughts, Malina finally picked her head up from her hazy daze. Taking a plate, Malina began to pile on the sweets, picking out some of her favorites: a piece of carrot cake, two cupcakes, a few brownies and she topped it off with a nice steamy cup of sweetened coffee. She gave a small smile of victory, knowing her mother wasn't here to judge her on what she was eating.

As the thought of her mother trumped across her brain, Malina began to frown, Damn...Now my carrot cake tastes like guilt... She thought to herself, her head hanging in a bit of shame as she took another bite out of the carrot cake anyway.

No matter how many times the young girl convinced herself that she was old enough to be away from family, Lily nevertheless always makes the most dramatic departure of the three siblings in saying goodbye to their parents for another school term. A few years come with a great difference, from the young redheaded girl who tearfully longed to be with her brothers aboard the Hogwarts Express to the fifth year student who was still childishly tearful to be parting from her parents, despite the supposed physical growth, Lily wasn't far too different from before as she would like to believe.

However, that fleeting moment of sadness passed as soon as it came, for the young girl could hardly contain her excitement aboard the train. The rainy weather did not dim the redhead's smile nor her enthusiasm. It was all expressed in her words, each topic passing quickly before another replaced it, leaving most of her audience with a dumbfounded expression that was hardly noticed by Lily. And that scene replayed itself now as she sat at the Hufflepuff table, her smile refusing to cease as her amicable personality shone brightly in the chatty table. Only the seemingly nervous glances of the first years paused the young girl slightly, giving each a smile in greeting just as most of the other Hufflepuffs did. At the moment, it appeared as if their table was giving the first years the most attention.

Topics shifted quickly. At one point she had been speaking about the Bat-Bogey Hex that she had perfected, much without her father's consent, from her mother. Only minutes later did the topic switch to one of her favorite, -not that any of the topics was truly met by boredom from the chatty girl- Quidditch. Though the topic never has found itself to receive much popularity in Hufflepuff than it did in the other houses, it was nevertheless a heated discussion about how Hufflepuff might do in the Quidditch Cup this year and whether or not the other teams might actually abide by the rules this time. Then again, no one truly got their hopes up, especially not Lily, who has faced far too many fouls as the seeker for her house.

The sudden mewing sound under her feet alerted her to a new presence, immediately glancing under the table while those beside her carried on their conversation. Her expectations were met, for Gus, her familiar, pawed at her the second she glanced down. Of all the places the Siamese cat would go, he would pick the most crowded place in the academy right now? Given the cat's usually grumpy demeanor to the presence of others, she could only guess that he was here for one thing. And she guessed right. Reaching down, the cat immediately hopped onto her lap, his paws dirtying the robes from the mud collected from the rainy day, which was met by a disapproving look from Lily. "Please don't tell me y- Oh, no, you did!" In clear Gus fashion, her hand pulled at the small square caught between Gus' teeth as she pulled it from the cat and dropped it on the table, immediately wiping her hand on her robe. "Please tell me you did not eat that."

Probably something he got from her pranksters of brothers, the piece of Ton-Tongue Toffee was placed before her. While she rejoiced at the fact that she did not have to go searching for the owner of that object that Gus stole, she simply wondered if sooner or later she was going to find Gus with a tongue too large for his mouth. Then again, this would be a clear lesson for him not to be going around and stealing others' possessions. Shaking her head and letting Gus slide off her lap, she turned her eyes back up, now lost in the topics her friends have now chose, Lily instead decided to take one small break to actually take in the Great Hall in which she hardly remembered walking into, given all the chattering along the way.

The piece of Toffee reminded her of her brothers, despite the fact that she had seen them just moments earlier, and of course, as her eyes scanned the tables, she caught sight of Albus who appeared as nervous as always in a crowded setting. If this was set in the first year she had arrived at Hogwarts, the young girl would not have hesitated in running toward her elder brother in an effort to comfort him in the crowded setting, but something about his actions lately refrained her from attempting anything like it. It was almost as if he was pulling away from her, and it was something that she hesitated to address. Perhaps she had been too attached to him, and perhaps it was time to start making new friends. Even so, she could not help herself but let her gaze linger a little longer on him than the others.

{Great Hall || Open//Not Interacting}

Ferris entered the Great Hall, feeling extremely grateful to be as far away from those nightmarish carriages as possible. He had heard from some sixth year that they were pulled by Thestrals, and turns out that much had been true...those were some motherfucking sinister looking assholes. He had never been able to see them before today, so imagine his surprise when he hopped off the train to be staring one of those things in it's long, drawn, skeletal horse face...This was supposed to have been just another year at Hogwarts, where he felt at home and safe, but in all actuality, everything had changed over the summer. Ferris was not the same person anymore, he was hardly a person at all. He couldn't fight off this horrible gut wrenching consternation that everyone must be staring at him and recognize the alien-ness there. How could they not? He'd simply have to work double time at being his usual flippant self, give them no cause for concern because everyone knew teenagers were like sharks, they could smell fear like it was blood in the water.

Ferris marched ahead toward his table like he had his merit badge in pseudo-arrogant strutting and an honorary doctorate in being care free. He had changed into his robes on the express but they hung more loosely around him than he remembered them doing last year. He had his contacts in so his glasses remained buried in his cloak pocket, and his thick brown hair stood up on end like he had been struck by lightning. Like he was absolutely, one-hundred percent, determined to become a super sayian, any twelve year olds wet dream. He smiled and acknowledged a few people he knew before sliding down into an open seat at the end of the table amongst the fray of yellow and black. Ferris rubbed elbows with his fellow Hufflepuffs, not worried about tryingto make conversation, it was unlikely he'd of been heard over the tumultuous crowd anyhow. He was merely contented to sit quietly for once in his life and be immersed in it all. The excitement in the air was palpable and nigh uncontainable. The night sky above them, courtesy of the hall's magically enchanted ceiling, star's grew obscured with cloud cover due to prolonged exposure to the heady emotions swirling around the tables below. Perhaps everything was going to be okay after all.

This morning had been, if anything, exhausting. There was a certain emptiness to the many phases of starting the school year when it came to Hogwarts. Not really emptiness, per-say, but the feeling of leaving behind his parents for another year felt like tearing; the beginning feels sort of awful, the reminder that he wasn't a child anymore, but then the on-going feeling of that connection being ripped. Yes, he could call his parents while he was there, but that wasn't really expected of a seventeen-year-old, to seek out the comfort of their parents. Then, after that, he'd have to sit through the drawling theatrical experience of his sister's departure, and his brother's lack thereof, but after all, that didn't take long. All that mattered was he was here now.

Striding down the large hallway with a grin plastered across his face was the infamous James Potter. It was a wonder to him, and basically everyone else why he was head boy of Gryffindor, but he wasn't going to just question the "perfectly wrapped gift" left so conveniently for his taking. Besides, he got a fancy pin to go with it! James paused and gazed over the colony of heads, looking for someone of interest. He briefly studied the long table of Ravenclaws, until he spotted a particular person...

"Mal!" James called, his smile seemingly brighter than before. He hadn't gotten a chance to meet with her yet, but he was pleased to see she was still alive, he would have been rather disappointed otherwise. The eldest Potter boy made his way down to the Ravenclaw table hastily, throwing himself beside her dramatically, and bumping anyone near her out of the way. It was certainly unbecoming of head boy, especially since he wasn't even at his own house table. It was only a matter of time before the Potter was snapped at by the headmaster. Propping his head up on the table by the means of his arm, he examined her with curled eyebrows and a flirty, day-dreaming expression. James knew this inevitably got at her, for she didn't like to messed with. The Gryffindor scooted even closer, just so that their hips met, only to add to the uncomfortable and brilliant act. "Someone needs their beauty-rest," he snickered, showing off his toothy grin.

~Great Hall- Not Interacting~

Dominique remembered this school like the back of her hand. It wasn't a safe haven to her or anything but it was her second home, a home that taught her everything that she wanted to know (and some she didn't). The train ride was un eventful as Dominique has a habit of falling asleep when traveling so she wouldn't have been much company. Nut traveling by carriage up to the gates was always line of her favorite arts of the trip. Why someone would hate coming to Hogwarts would never make sense to her.

Entering the great hall Dominique was quick to get her seat, this girl loved food an nothing would come in between them. Of course she covered her plate and stared eating even before they were supposed to as by now she was used to how things went. A few first years were welcomed into RavenClaw and friends were chatting amongst friends. Meanwhile Dominique just grabbed one of her books on mythical creatures from inside her bag and started reading. Quite the multi-tasker as she ate and read and yet still kept a ear out for the head master to start his speech. Looking around quickly she wanted to see if she recognized anyone, mostly two people in particular but on was in another house and the other one has many friends it seems and would most likely be with them.

When the headmaster stood up, Dominique put her book back in her bag and waited patiently. She was ready, this was one of the things she always got excited for. As the headmaster always gave good speeches and sometimes a bit of magic was put into play as well. Dominique was quite excited for this year to start. She could feel it that it would be different whether that was good or not she didn't know but either way she would take it on in stride.

Cara's eyes lit up once she saw that Minah had saw her overly display of attention and was heading her way. "Cara! How've you been?" was the first thing she said as she sat down beside her. Cara was too overly joyed to say anything for a minute so she watched as Minah apologized to the Gryffindors across the table from her. Cara looked over at them with a stutter present. " H-hey guys, um we'll finish this later yeah?"

Her two housemates got up with wicked smiles on their faces as they respond with a " Oh sure, We'll leave you two to catch up." Cara instantly knew what they meant by that and her face flushed as she stood up from her seat to shout at them but not menacing more in a embarassed and playful way. " I-It's not like that you twits!" Once she calmed down she sat back down next to Minah with a big goofy smile plastered on her face. All of her previous tiredness now gone and replaced by the company of her best friend.

" I've been better! " Cara answered with a smile. " How about you? How has it been going on your side?"

On the train, Scorpius could not locate Albus or any of the Potters. He found a group of Slytherin's he had known from previous years and shared a car with them, talking about the summer and talking it up. He was coming back this year as a prefect, which he had anticipated but was excited for none the less. When the school came into view over the tree tops of the forests he tuned out the boys in his car and watched the mist streaming in tendrils around the stone fortress atop the hill. Scorpius bright green eyes drank it all in as he let out a sigh of contentment; although he loved his parents, Hogwarts was were he needed to be.

Scorpius wasted no time getting to the castle from the station, only pausing for a moment to check if Vulpe was taken care of. The poor fox was forced to travel among the baggage for the trip due to her size, though she had been enchanted to sleep for the trip. Scorpius would check on her later- after he tracked down Albus in the Great Hall.

Most of the students had already arrived by the time Scorpius made his way to the massive cavern of a room. Along the way he had been stopped by Graygander about his new prefect status, the Head of Slytherin welcoming him with a congratulations and a swift explanation of his duties. She would of course check in with him later, but hurried him off to the meal so he would not miss the opening ceremony. Upon entering the hall, Scorpius waved at a few returning students he recognized at other tables as he bee-lined for the green and silver. He looked immediately away from the crowd; Albus would never had sat next to the mass of chattering Slytherin students unless Scorpius had forced him to. Sure enough, seated scrunched at the end was his best friend, looking like he wanted to be anymore but here.

Scorpius grinned, striding past the crowds- almost running- to get to Albus. He smack the table with both hands once he reach him, leaning forward over the oak with his biggest, goofiest smirks,"As a prefect, I'm supposed to tell you to go say hello to everyone", He called out over the roar of the entering students,"People are going to find you weird". He slid his lanky body into the seat across from the dark haired boy, letting his eyes roll over him. Nothing had changed over the summer, apart from the normal growth of a teenager. Albus would still be shorted then him, though he was taller then he remembered. As always, the large amount of people drained the color from his friends face, although that was nothing new. Scorpius spied the snake in Albus's pocket and let out a chuckle, reaching a long finger across the table to touch the scaly creature, "I can't believe we didn't make a single plan follow through this summer. How have you been? How's everyone"

Malina Anderson
{Grand Hall: Interacting}

Image

Head hung over her carrot cake, Malina scraped the frosting off the sides of the cake, hastily licking it off the fork. The guilt slowly faded away with every bite that she took.

"MA!" Malina heard her name screamed over the chaos of the Grand Hall. Her head swiveled over towards the voice, and she noticed James swaggering over towards her. As James made his way over towards the Ravenclaw table, he almost seemed to float by the rest of the people. A smirk flickered across her face, for she had not seen James since the end of last year, and in all honestly she was glad to see him. Malina enjoyed James's company, he always seemed genuine and he had this way of making her laugh.

The Gryffindor pushed away some of the Ravenclaw's and sat next to her, getting utterly close to where their hips were touching. Malina blushed, but put her head down just in time so her dark curls seemed to act as a curtain until the redness in her cheeks passed. James swung his arm out, resting his cheek upon it, a flirty expression flickered on his face.

"Someone needs their beauty-rest." He pointed out, a smirk creeped over his lips.

"I suppose so, sleep does sound pretty nice." She giggled, finishing her carrot cake and turned her attention towards the two cupcakes on her plate: one with chocolate frosting, and one with vanilla. She grabbed the vanilla one and offered it to James, "Care for a cupcake, I fear my eyes were bigger than my stomach."

Her lips slowly curled into a smile, and she took a long breath in, "Soo..How was your summer, Mr. Potter?" She looked over at him, her eyes meeting with his for a brief moment. She then grabbed her cup of coffee, focusing her energies on something else other than his flirty attitude.

James sparkled with contentment, overjoyed to be reunited with his friend, yet he never let his lovesick expression fade from sight. He declined the cupcake with the wave of his hand, before pulling his glasses from his robe and putting them on. Now he could finally make out Malina's features. He could make out her dark hair, and her fascinating hazel eyes. James seemed to bounce with happiness when his vision was cleared.

"My summer? Hmm..." The Potter let his stare fall to the table in a contemplated, stagey manner. What did he do this summer, that was a good question. He then he looked back up at her with a wrinkled nose. "Rather dull, if you should ask me, except for that thing with the donkey," he stated, chuckling, and as if it were obvious what had happened, "that was spectacular." James trailed off, going no further into the topic. He found that he liked watching her emotions change behind her eyes, how he could light her up in a matter of seconds with a simple joke. It put him in a state of reverie. "Now tell me, how was your summer, my dear Ms. Anderson?" The Potter glanced at her food. He was too excited to be hungry, he feared he might be sick if he even attempted to eat anything, regardless any sweets.

The fear was nothing new.

Nalini smiled encouragingly as she herded the First years towards the boats. There, on the glassy water of the lake, darkened by the looming shadow of the great castle, the children shifted and glanced back at her, whispering in a mix of apprehension and awe. Nalini was stalwart as ever, and it was hard for most of them to remain frightened when she looked so collected, when her blue eyes shone like galleons. However as they loaded into those boats and their approached to the castle hastened, in the twinkling light of dusk, Nalini knew what was coming, and knew that she must make herself into something sturdier than gold. Time for the mask.

She rarely took it off any more. Almost never. Or was it never, now? It was long past the point where it chafed. There was only numbness where it rubbed against her skin. Nalini fancied it had grown into her face, that she couldn't remove it even if she wanted to. The mask was always smiling, always pleasant. She chose it for that very reason. People believed what their eyes told them, and a serene confidence mocked those who feared, reassured those who did not.

ImageThe corridors echoed rapturously as she led them in, a little half-smile pushing a dimple into one of her cheeks. Her hair glistened in the glow of the torch and candle light, the glimmer of her prefect pin an incongruous twinkle against her black billowing robes. The Great Hall was humming with energy when they strolled through the doors, the older students wolfed down their meals, ignoring the newbies in favor of chattering away to their friends, or some skillful combination of the two. All the usual signs of pre-year fervor. She passed the students over to a teacher so they could explain to them the sorting hat ceremony and begin the process, and so that she could go and locate some of her 'friends.' She spotted a familiar tuft of platinum blonde hair next to a mop of inky black hunched over the Slytherin table. The setting could not be more opportune. Nalini sashayed by and brushed her hair over her shoulder alluringly. "Scorpius, neglecting your prefect duties I see." She teased taking the seat across from the pair. "Albus Potter, correct? I don't believe I've yet had the pleasure. I'm Nalini, Nalini Bayliss."

Malina
{Grand Hall: Interacting with James Potter}

"My summer? Hmm..." James paused for a moment, which made Malina look up from her plate. He seemed to be racking his brain for an answer, in a rather theatrical manner nonetheless.

Wrinkling his nose, he seemed to finally come to an answer, "Rather dull, if you should ask me, except for that thing with the donkey," he began to laugh, and Malina raised her eyebrow, "That was spectacular."

Trailing off, James seemed to almost shut off the rest of his thoughts, leaving Malina with no leads into what he might be referring too. A smirk flickered across her lips and she chewed on the inside of her cheek slightly.

"Now tell me, how was your summer, my dear Ms. Anderson?" The boy's eyes slid down to her plate of treats as he waited.

"Well," Malina sighs, taking her coffee and taking a sip, "I.. worked mostly... spent time with my mother..." her eyes trail off for a moment as salty emotions bubbled up inside her for a moment. She took a deep breath, letting the emotion subside before she continued, "I also saw my friend, but.. nothing else too exciting, I'm afraid I'm utterly boring." She chuckled, more so out of feeling awkward than anything else.

Malina felt like she never had exciting things to do, or talk about. She was always too nervous to do anything crazy, or insane, which in teen years results to a boring routine of school work, and following orders. She unwraps the cupcake and takes a bite out of it, hoping it would sooth her nerves. The sugar and soft cake sparked her tongue and she happily took another bite.

Please, The head boy scoffed, “I’ll be the judge of boring.” He gave devious grin as if he were planning something else- “And Mal, you are certainly not it.” -But disappointingly, he did absolutely nothing. James brushed her hand gently, giving her an, actually, very normal smile. Wiith that, he stood. ”I’m sorry to say, I should get going, got a load of terrified first years to round up.” James turned to begin his path toward the Gryffindor table, before stopping dead in his tracks. He faced her again, gradually. ”It’s very nice to see you, Malina. Have a good year.” Finally, James made his round to Gryffindor table, playfully high-fiving the newer students. Everyone knew Gryffindor was a proud house, but today must’ve felt like the most monumental day in the whole world.

James felt relieved to speak with Malina, as brief as it was, it felt like an eternity since he’d seen her face, and he knew there had been many times (very many) that she had not wished to see his. Luckily, this wasn’t one of one of those times. His gaze drifted idly across the bunch of students. James wouldn’t eat tonight, for he knew he wouldn’t finish it, but that didn’t stop him from trying to catch a couple friends…

{Great Hall, Interacting w/ Cara Hayes}

Minah gives her friend a puzzled sort of look when she sits back down next to her. It isn't the goofy smile that has led to this bemusement, for that is a stable of her dear friend's expressions, but rather the fact that she had called her friends twits before sitting back down beside Minah. Of course, it very well may have been jokingly --that had been all she'd caught out of the brief exchange Cara had with the other two before joining Minah. She doesn't dwell on it, perhaps because sit doesn't seem to necessitate dwelling, and instead flashes a grinning response to Cara's smile.

"I'm grand, of course --always happy to come back home. Or, err, back to my second home, I suppose?" She dismisses her own words with a shrug, instead focusing more on her friend's comment on the fact that 'she's been better'.

"Tired from the train ride? You know, you aren't obligated to talk to the people in your carriage if you're tired --last year, I slept the whole ride, remember?"
This is a slight exaggeration, as she had stayed awake long enough to pull in an excessive amount of snacks from the snack trolley, and Cara will know this, as they rode together in the same compartment last year. Minah's a bit disappointed that they hadn't found each other this year, actually. It was probably because she had just barely arrived on time to make the train, being as punctual as usual.

On this year's train, she had eaten an equally large amount of snacks. And yet, the girl is already beginning to feel hungry, and is less than subtle about eying some of the food hungrily. She loves it when they have feasts. Halloween is the best, of course --the sweets are all impossibly delicious. Minah had already been a big eater before, but starting at Hogwarts had only made her more of a glutton. Every meal here would have needed a special occasion to be merited in the Chase household. She does occasionally miss her mother's Korean dishes while here, though --everything served at Hogwarts is strictly Western-Wizarding style.

In full honesty, no one had particularly caught James' eye, excluding Minah, but he had no wish to see her after the end of last year. The Potter boy had no desire to be coaxed out of his comfort zone any further than he had decided. He sat down briefly at the Gryffindor table, sending a few grins in the direction of a pretty Gryffindor girl, only to stand promptly, showing off his incapability to sit still for very long. Visibly fidgeting, he let his gaze wander across the crowd of people once more, avoiding the view of the food that would surely make him sick.

How absolutely lovely. James had caught sight of his red-headed, younger sister, Lily Luna. It had been several hours since he'd seen her, but he couldn't help himself, he'd simply have to get his early year teasing in A.S.A.P! The head boy was stopped on his way with a quick a tug around the arm. "Mr. Potter!" Exclaimed one of the faculty teachers. "Have you no shame?"

James was quickly piecing together his guard, which had been abruptly captured. Swallowing, he turned to face the professor. "I'm sorry sir, I've left it at home for yet another year. Very clumsy of me, my bad." A cheesy smile thickly coated his face.

"You had better step up your act, Potter! Don't think I didn't spot you sticking that vulgar note on the back of the Ravenclaw prefect." The professor sputtered in his heavy scottish accent. "You may be in that place for your name, but you are kept for your attitude! I suggest-- you watch yourself." The conversation ended as it had started, with a hiss and chagrin.

"Of course, sir." The head boy pressed his palms together and bowed respectfully. "You have my word." James gave the man a wicked wink along with a proper salute before taking off in the direction of the Hufflepuffs.

It was a flurry of motion, James had thrown his cloaked arms around his sister’s neck in a loose headlock. ”I’m surprised that rat of a feline hasn’t gotten itself killed yet!” The boy snickered, releasing her and sitting down cooly beside her. He gave a quick glare to the cat, who had torn out the hem of his new cloak earlier that week.

”Oh my!” James gasped suddenly, staring at the top of his sister’s head as if a giant tarantula sat patiently on top of it. “Does your hair seem orange-er than usual or is it just me?” The tension released and he clicked his tongue. “How unfortunate.

”Now - just how is my least favorite sister?”

Malina
{Grand Hall: Not Interacting}

Image

”Please,” a devilish smile appeared on his face, “I’ll be the judge of boring.”

“And Mal, you are certainly not it.” Malina smiled as James brushed his fingers over her hand. Malina blushed as she noticed his normal smile, his true smile. She felt burst of happiness rattle her bones, and a chill shuddered up her spine.

”I’m sorry to say, I should get going, got a load of terrified first years to round up..." He seemed flustered as he stood, Malina sat up a bit straighter, taking a small breath as he took a few steps away.

He turned towards her once more, their eyes meeting, Malina turned her head to the side, curious to know what he was going to say next, "It’s very nice to see you, Malina. Have a good year.”

"You too.." The last words exhaled out of her lungs, but not loud enough for him to hear. She watched James slip over to his table, giving some of the new recruits high fives.

Malina turned back to her cup of coffee and began chewing on her lower lip...What was he playing at? He couldn't just touch her hand like that... smile at her like that... did it mean anything? Or was it just some kind of James-play... Shaking her head, a strand of her hair fell in her face and she exhaled quickly to push it out of the way.

Maybe she was over thinking everything... James liked her, as a friend....They were friends... Right??

"Lina! Boys and girls cannot be friends, especially teenagers." Annalisse's voice rang in Malina's head... Malina could almost see the smug smile Anna would normally give her when Malina's head was in the clouds. Maybe Anna was right... Besides, Malina was ultimately too shy to say anything to James about these feelings that were bubbling up.

"Ughh..." The brunette muttered under her breath, swirling the coffee in her cup, taking another sip; she could already feel her body being over taken with the jitters. Taking a look around, she noticed Minah, and a few others, but found herself locked in her seat.
