personality.
Adventurous, bubbly, witty, and loving are probably the words that would describe Iris the most or at least the words her coven members would use to describe her. Iris has been an incredibly nurturer and empath since the moment she was three years old. She was keen on saving birds with damaged wings, or giving out hugs to people in distress. All Iris has ever wanted to do since that age is make people feel safe, happy and loved, so she does this by doing random acts of kindness, she'll find something to compliment about another, or she has had a good hunch on understanding someone's hardships despite not knowing them too well. She is incredibly bubbly and it is hard to stay so tough and bothered around her.
Iris is the kind of girl that you will see trying to get a crowd to start dancing, she will encourage people to just let go and be their true selves and that nothing else should matter. Iris is incredibly talented at making people feel heard and like they are the only person that exists in the world. She has been known to have a good banter with people, so despite the softness of her nature she is quick witted and enjoys a battle of the words if you wanna name it. Some of her cousins may even suggest that she enjoys arguments and debates, but only because she likes to challenge the norms of society.
The woman would love nothing more than the world to have peace among everyone, but she understands the line between peace and tom foolery. She doesn't want everyone to fit into the same mold, she wants everyone to be as they are and colour outside the lines.
All of that being said, Iris is complex and has her own inner turmoil's. She can be easily fixate on things too much to the point it becomes overbearing and annoying or she can be a little naΓ―ve at times. Jokes can sometimes go over her head or world references may be confusing to her at times. She hates admitting that she is wrong about things, so even if she is wrong she may go to the grave saying she's right anyways, so the woman is incredibly stubborn and persistent.
fey ancestry.
It is Iris' Great grandmother who was a sun elf and possessed many magical abilities. It is where the height in the family comes from. The bloodline got a little trickled down because she had decided to get involved with a human. The coven line does go back as far as the times where witches were covered in shadows and weren't known to humans, but very little information about those times exist, at least in writing. There are folklore stories that get passed down from generation to generation.
Iris gets her height, and fey like features from her ancestry. She can survive off of human food, but to be at her peak of magical capability she has to feed on fey food otherwise her powers are incredibly dull. But as far back as they can trace, they have always worshipped and made offerings to the gods and goddesses listed above.
coven.
The Mehr coven is consisted of 7 families and overall 29 members. They are a small coven, but not small enough to be listed as a hedge coven. The Mehr coven is lead by Lily Mehr, Iris' grandmother and together they worship Ra, Aurora, and Helios for their natural healing powers. They call upon these three sun entities to gift them and bless them with their warm healing touches, or to help source out certain ingredients in nature. Which leads to their main magic specialty which has to do with nature and making remedies from natural resources. They take this a step further and prefer to create most things in their homes. For this they always pay respects to Persephone and Demeter for the offerings they provide.
The family has numerous spell books all held in their coven's library. They also posses non family history books and spell books, anything they could buy or were gifted overtime. The coven even has their own library tech who helps with sourcing information out and dedicates most of their life to reading the books in the library so they have a good knowledge of what is in each book. Back in the olden days of their coven this role was important as they were also the coven scribe. It is the library tech/scribe that has the most important role over the coven leader, at all costs they will be protected first.
The coven holds their head high as they teach their young ones that the most powerful gift you can have is not your magic, but it is the unconditional love you can give to another. It is such a powerful thing and often coven members are taught what happens when people lack that kind of love in their life and how that may be bridged to mending broken hearts. That and family is of utmost importance. You appreciate, love and cherish your family and it is with them you share your deepest and darkest of feelings/thoughts.
A lot of the coven members go on to be doctors, nurses, apothecaries, and peacemakers in the world. The Mehr coven wishes to bring sunshine and light into the lives of many, even those who have not see the light in their lives ever. They want to make people feel warm, safe and loved.
As a secondary study, the Mehr coven has been experimenting with oracle and prophetic magic. They aren't the most excelled at it, but they take great pride in learning the abilities through tarot cards, healing crystals, and even trying to read tea leaves. If it doesn't pan out they can say they at least had fun doing it. But they also look to the planets and astrology for this kind of magic. It is why a lot of the members will have similar middle names based on when they were born. Iris herself was born in march and is a Pisces, and one of the gemstones for Pisces is Aquamarine. This has created Marine to be her middle name.

magical capabilities.
Ris being the first born of her sister and cousins meant that she was suppose to be destined with more of the family powers for when she hopefully takes over the Mehr coven. She did get a good deal of magical capabilities despite her interest being more in the realm of her coven's values. Iris is particularly good at calling on Aurora goddess of the dawn for morning healing. Her hands are always warm to the touch and they have been blessed with helping soothe aching pains that may reside in a body. Pain that is higher on the scale will just be dulled to become more manageable. Other than that she has used herbal potions to cure various viruses, fungus, and wounds. As with most things her healing magic has limits and she can't cure or heal everything, not even her grandmother can as the inevitable comes around every now and then. Other than that her magical gifts include some mild persuasion gifts that come from the god Apollo. She has an increased chance of persuading people to do what she wants, but of course it can always be resisted, it just may feel as they have a strong pull to agree. Other magical capabilities would be done with using spell incantations and using transmutation circles or candles. All spells have a certain percent chance of failing, but overall she caught onto her magical abilities quite quickly.

history.
To understand Iris we would have to go back to her grandmother's history a little bit. Her grandmother Lily ended up having four daughters, Rose, Hyacinth, Azalea and Daisy in that order. Lily's partner passed just after Daisy was born, so Lily was left raising four daughters with just her younger sister and what was a 13 member coven. Lily was always meant to pass down the coven to Rose upon her 50th birthday, but as the times are shifting and with the rising conflicts coming about Lily has held onto the leadership, so she can continue to prepare Rose for everything it means to be a leader.
Rose fell in love on the wrong side of the tracks. The coven was fairly open to most members joining, but the man she wanted to be her partner was frowned upon. It took a lot of convincing, but Rose managed to get him in. Together they were bonded in the sun bath and a traditional Mehr Coven marriage ceremony was performed, bonding their souls for as long as their union lasted. Although the thing to note about the traditional marriage ceremony and sun bath is that it is incredibly tricky to just get "divorced" as a certain ritual needs to take place and there needs to be a justifiable reason and not just cause.
The spent a handful of good years together, they had their daughters Iris and Lavender together, but Iris was only 3 or 4 when the altercation in the Mehr Coven began. Slowly the men were going missing and turning up dead. There was no trace of what occurred, so there was no one to blame, but eventually Lily decided enough was enough. They hardly had any men left in the coven and nothing started to happen until Rose's partner came into view.
All Iris remembers is the rituals to ban her father's soul and presence from the coven and his exile. Iris never got to know why he had to leave or where he went, but part of her life's mission is to create peace in her coven again and hopefully find her father in doing so.
Iris only has fond memories of him and only remembers the good, but even still the little bits she has heard about the disappearing men, have triggered her to question everything and to seek answers. Kicking him out did not show unconditional love and Iris has never been presented proof of him doing these wrong deeds. Iris is looking for answers more now than ever.
She has always been adventurous, but she questions the true intentions of her father being kicked out. He is the sole reason she wishes to work towards gaining peace everywhere because everyone deserves a home.
As for her regular home life, she spent a lot of time dancing around with her sister and playing practical pranks on her cousins. They enjoy laughing, singing, and playing instruments. Everything always felt so light hearted an fun, but she had an extremely close bond with her younger sister and always told her she could lead the coven one day if she wanted, because Iris had no desire to run it
(History is told from an unreliable narrator and things may not be as they are written as we only know Iris' history from what she knows.)
