Introduction

Seekers of light,
Believe not in forever,
Believe not in truth,
For they are empty and inconsistent, as are all things.

“Oh hi there! Sorry about the wait, with that big system crash earlier, a lot of our files got deleted and messed up. It’s a real pain, what with the Vanguard here having only just moved in for settlement. Well, can’t be helped, looks like you’ll have to sit through the history lecture and fill out all the personnel forms again. Oh, sorry, where’s my manners? The name’s Alamarei. Alamarei Delaney, but everyone calls me Ala.”

The angelic girl took a comfy seat, winking as she crossed her legs and slid the hovering computer terminal across the room. Tapping a bit, soft ~music~ began to play before she handed over the small device…

“Well, first thing’s first. You probably know all this stuff like I said, but I’ll give you the brief version. Mandatory check to show you know the situation, so we’ll get the formality out of the way. But uh feel free to tune out until the licence registration below if you know it all already, or check the synopsis at the bottom to see if you’re in the right place. I’ll continue when you’re ready.

Coughing once, Alamarei cleared her throat before taking a deep breath.

“As you well know, our society is made up of three distinct races. The Humans, Newmans and Casts. Well, Humans don’t really need much explanation, naturally. They’re pretty well adapted to any job, and pretty versatile too, and I guess we have to be thankful to them for creating us. I mean, you know newmans and casts were both made by the humans, right? Right. See, Newmans and Newearls like myself are the result of all those cloning and genetic experiments during that nasty unethical period… Still, it all worked out in the end, and us pointy eared people were born. We’re pretty smart all of us, and we’ve got a pretty good link into our innate technique abilities, not to mention the whole ageless beauty thing.”

Chuckling a little to herself, she sat back, the baubles on the end of her hat bouncing up and down.

“But enough about us, next I suppose I better go into Casts. Casts and Caseals are the backbone of most industry nowadays, being humanoid machine people. They’re a pretty funny lot, real good at the grunt work, not so much on the techniques. Still, I hear those new TPC’s let them cast all sorts of spells now… Er… Where was I? Oh yeah, right. See, even though I call them robots, they’re more like androids. Thinking, feeling machines, even if they do get pre-scripted personalities sometimes.”

She laughed again, before giving a scrutinising look across the table.

“Oh don’t give me that look. I know you already know this and all that, but it’s procedure, okay? Anyway, we all live in harmony together as part of a community, even if Humans are in charge of the majority of things. After all, the government and president is primarily human based, but I don’t think that many people are bothered with it… Eh, random thought.”

She trailed off before shaking her head dismissively.

“Back on topic, do you know why the majority of us were born and raised in space? Basically, the world was slowly exhausting itself. I mean, photon resources were running low, and not to mention populations were reaching an all time high….. Wait, what? You don’t know what a photon is? Ehh… Well, neither do I really. Some fancy light-particle-majig. Don’t worry too much, basically it makes fancy lasers and swords. Segue, What was the solution to this lack of sustainability? Bingo! Heading out into space, and finding a whole new planet was the best move. That’s when the Pioneer 1, and then Pioneer 2, headed off to colonise planet Ragol. Most of the records from around that time are pretty blurry, but apparently the wildlife was pretty hostile and resistant. Thankfully, with advances in technology and talented individuals like yourself, we managed to subdue and settle into the new city we made there.”

Pausing for a moment, she shrugged.

“Not that anyone really cares too much. I mean, it’s been years since all that happened. The important thing is, we re-colonised, founded a new world, and life went on. Until now, where we’ve moved to this new planet on our colony sized ship, the Vanguard. You know, since we’re expanding even more? Babies poppin’ up everywhere these days… Anyway, the planet’s already colonised partially, but there’s still plenty of monsters down there on Latilla. But that’s not important. What IS important is who helped make that happen. That being, the principal, his government, and the Hunters under the work of the Hunters Guild.”

Stopping again, the little newearl brought up a new monitor and picture, proudly pointing to it.

Image

“Hunters is a general term for the people who do all kinds of dangerous jobs for the people of the Vanguard. Hunters actually refers to three types of classes, the Hunters, Rangers and Forces, which are generally referred to as HU’s, RA’s and FO’s. Hunters like blades and close range combat, RA’s like guns and ranged combat, while FO’s (Which are downright spectacular mind you), are experts with magical techniques. By identifying a person’s race, you can pronounce their full class title. For example, I’m a FOnewearl, a female, newman force. A male newman force would be a FOnewm. A Human male hunter would be a HUmar, and a Female Human force would be a FOmarl. Got it? Oh, one more? Okay, a male cast ranger would be a RAcast, and a female one would be a RAcaseal.”

Pointing to each of the labelled pictures, she paused to catch her breath before continuing.

“Basically, the Hunter’s Guild takes requests from people, traders, the government, and then assigns them to Hunters to complete, or leaves them up for anyone to take. Sub-guilds sometimes operate within the Hunter’s guild, like Arkz, Guardians, and the newly formed Aegis, so missions would be assigned to them, and delegated to their members. After completion, the Hunter’s guild would provide part of the payment from the client, taking some profit themselves – But allowing the Hunters to take whatever they scavenged while on a mission.”

She grinned, smiling widely.

“Comprehende? It all works out since work gets done, money goes back into the government, and the hard working people get bonus benefits for the job. Then again, you need to register with us again due to the system crash, right? Old or new, if you want to work, you’re going to have to renew you hunter’s licence so uh, fill out this form and I’ll put it through.”

Alamarei handed across a small PDA, the contents as follows:

We’ve got plenty of shops, synthesis stores, and all the other important day to day things. After all, apparently there’s some weird new creatures showing up…” Trailing off again, Alamarei sat up, taking the PDA with her and opening up the door to leave.

“It’s been nice talking with you, be sure to pop by and visit me sometime! Oh yeah, if you have any questions at all, don’t be afraid to PM me, I promise I won’t bite.”

Giggling to herself, she made her leave, softly singing some words to herself…

It's a long long run
To the Palace in the sun...

With hopes and dreams
Our ship will cross the sea
To the whole new world
Shining like a Pearl
The whole new world...

~Synopsis~

This is an RP set in the world of Phantasy Star Online 2, (PSO2) a thus unreleased game from SEGA. Borrowing elements from the original, (PSO) this RP is a more interactive and open version that’ll be run by me, using merely the setting, and expanding on it in my own way. No prior knowledge of PSO and its events are necessary, so don’t let that intimidate you. Anyone wanting any extra info though should PM me, or ask in the OOC. I’ll be steadily adding the backstory/history of the world in a separate OOC topic, but it might speed me up if you ask.

Basically, everyone will be playing the role of a Hunter - A mercenary for hire. A new planet has been colonised, but there’s still plenty of problems on the surface, so by taking jobs at the hunter’s guild, hunters get paid, and help out.

Through this, expansions to the story will occur, including the introduction of guilds, their own agendas, where the monsters are coming from, etc. etc., culminating in a final showdown against a big bad creature. Players may end up on either side of any conflicts, good, bad, or somewhere inbetween.

From the above, you’ll probably be able to tell this is a Sci-fi setting, but given the ‘Phantasy’ name, there’s elements of Fantasy too. There’ll be time on the ship, known as the Vanguard prior to missions, where most of the discussion and such will happen, then, using the teleporter, missions based on the surface of planet Latilla. Of course, there might be some ship based missions or surface based discussion though ^_~

The above intro gives a bit more light into the background story, but for the most part, let the world and story develop, and treat the missions like a day job. Some will be dangerous, others not so, but I’ll try to have the choice of several different scenarios to follow. As GM, I’ll try to cater to everyone, and it’s up to you whether to do missions with others or alone (But together really helps me out). My aim is to have a number of individual and interactive NPCs as well, having them and a world that constantly changes both with the player’s choices, and by events happening behind the scenes. Players should expect to probably be involved in some forms of combat however, with some dialog sequences between them.

On that note, being an ever changing world, the decisions you make may determine the eventual future of the Vanguard and its settlers. Success or Failure in a mission may result in the loss of certain NPC characters, changes to their motivations, expansion of the city on the surface, the eventual settlement on Latilla, or the collapse of society and the Vanguard. The decision is yours to make, though the path may not always be clear.

~Character Creation and Foreword~

The character skeleton has been provided above, along with some description of each area, however, I’d like to expand upon a few key points. Be sure to check the OOC topics on the Classes and the like to help with your decision!

Age for humans is self explanatory, but Casts and Newmans can live to ridiculous ages. Be reasonable, is all I can say, or, if you’re not certain, play it safe and leave it blank.

If you’re not sure about the class title, feel free to leave it blank and I’ll let you know in PM what it should be. Otherwise, feel free to give it a go!

Primary Weapon lists the main weapon types in PSO, however, you’re free to insert a description or image of whatever you like, within reason. Although many weapons fall within each category, a number were individually named, and had many special differences. Don’t feel limited, as I’m pretty flexible. If you want an image or better description of the types, feel free to ask me. Alternatively, I’ll be listing up images of the basic weapons with a description in a separate OOC topic. Most everyone can use Techniques too, a form of magic. This’ll be detailed in the OOC as well. Also bare in mind this is the PRIMARY weapon. What you’re known to use. You’re more than welcome to use most anything else as a secondary weapon.

Section ID is something I’ll be working out, and will help possibly determine what NPCs you meet, along with what players if they end up the same. If you’re wanting to try and get yourself something specific, use this calculator, or just wait for me to assign it. If your class isn’t one of the listed ones (Eg. FOcast), simply leave it to me.

Guild is mainly for later in the RP, should people join up with a faction, however, if you’ve got your own idea for a guild, or want to belong to one of the pre-established ones, feel free to enter the information in it.

Appearance is compulsory on text, mainly because finding a picture that fits can be extremely taxing, especially for casts. Nothing too detailed is needed, but outfit colours/style, basic body shape and the such can really help in description during the story. You can also find a picture of a regular anime person and then just describe their outfit, rather than the one in the pic. Need help with finding a picture? I’ll do my best to help out too!

Bio/History/Personality is a tough one, as depending on how confidant you are with the setting, you may not want to give a past. For the most part, basic life is the same, with the addition of technology such as super spaceships, teleporters, casts, etc. Personality is also pretty flexible, as that tends to change as things happen. If you’re honestly not sure what to write here, put “Amnesiac” and I’ll let it slide. Alternatively, hit me up via PM or OOC and I’ll be happy to throw around some ideas or answer questions. After all, you can be an experienced hunter already, or someone new to the business.

Other is for any other comments you may have, and is pretty much a ‘dump’ for anything I missed. On a side note, if I don't accept a character I WILL give constructive feedback on exactly why I refused a character, and allow you plenty of opportunity to correct anything that might be wrong. Additionally, if you have any cool ideas for the RP, this is the place to leave them, OR PM/OOC and I’ll see what I can do.

~Rules~

Swearing is fine, so long as it isn’t excessive. Use commonsense, or I will for you. On that note, this RP will contain action, blood, sweat and tears (From me), so it’s probably in the PG rating.

Romance is similarly A-Ok, so long as it abides forum rules. Anything more you want can be taken to PM.

This is a Literate to semi-literate RP, so try to make the effort to spellcheck, put in some description, and write a half decent amount. Not everyone’s going to be doing reels of text (I average about 450-1000 words), but even 250 is pretty reasonable. If you don’t feel you have enough to make that, let me know, and I’ll liven things up to produce more content. Similarly, I’m not some ogre. Don’t expect me to yell at you if you’ve only managed 200 words. Just try to judge the amount people are writing around you, and don’t go too overboard in either direction.

Variety is the spice of life. If you see an abundance of female newearl forces, try and make something different. This isn’t a rule so much as a request.

If you’re going to be away, drop out, etc. PLEASE let us know in OOC, and additionally, let us know how we should react around the character. Depending on the situation, I might blend your character to an NPC temporarily, or simply let them relax in their quarters until your return.

There’s no posting limit, but keep your fellow roleplayers (And myself) in mind as you go. No one wants to get too far ahead, or get left behind. Try to be active at least every 3 days or so though, as that’ll be my main aim, if not more often! If away for more than a week, I’ll likely push things on without you.

Use commonsense. Basically, no godmodding, etc. etc.

Any questions? Ideas? PM me! I’m a nice guy, seriously. I’ll listen, respond, give my own views, and be pretty flexible. Got some weird off tangent that doesn’t fit with the rest of this RP? Let me know, and I’ll see what I can do.

Finally, have fun! I mean, that’s kinda obvious…

Oh, and as GM, I reserve the right for… Well, most anything. Changing/adding to the rules, and all that. But as I said, I’m not gonna abuse my power… Too much =P

Lance smirked. So far the companions had... well, let's see. Hal wasn't dead yet, which was good, and neither was Ridly. Sure, they were close to the site where Gil Waters was, but they hadn't noticed what Lance had noticed. A single body lay a few meters away from the camp site, a massive slash mark had torn through their torso. That body belonged to Gil Waters, and Lance had already secured the important files and documents. Lance was tempted to be a prick and take the body, but he wouldn't do that. Instead, Lance quickly leaped down, making sure to stay out of site, and grabbed Gil's corpse. He would've simply dropped him down to Hal and Ridly then, but he remembered his orders.

‘Dark Star,

Your mission is as follows:

A Hunter we assigned to a task went missing in the west side of the forest. We have reason to believe they were eliminated. Your task is to recover the files on his person, and otherwise dispose of their remains. Should the body have already been found, you are to only recover the files. The regular safe deposit box will suffice.

Included is details of his person.

~R’

Lance quickly put Gil over his shoulder, and darted off into the distance, intending to dump Gil's Body in a deep lake, which he eventually did. Lance arrived a few minutes later, slightly tired, but still able to outrun any attackers or predators. Lance once again observed the scene before Him, and watched he battle resume.

~Kylli~

Bec held her foe back steadily, the Booma using its full weight behind it’s arm… While the hunter casually kept it at bay, feigning great effort. Reckless as it may have been running in like that, she knew she could escape the boomas if need be – But the only way to test someone was to throw them in the deep end. If they’d handled it smart and taken their time picking off the boomas, the fight would have been a simple process of elimination. In the end though, what would that of taught Kylli? Bec wanted someone she could rely on. If the pressure was on, and Bec truly had left her life in the hands of another, she wanted someone that could take it in stride. In a moment, she’d be able to see if the ranger could step up to that plate.

As shots rang out, puncturing the air with sound, a smile crept into Bec’s face as she snuck a glance over her shoulder. The first booma dropped without another sound, and behind her, the beasts were confused and injured, stumbling about and into each other as an unknown assailant took them out with near pinpoint aim. With a twin strike of bullets, another monster dropped, and already, Bec was filled with confidence in her new partner.

As Kylli began her strange, chant-like call to attract the remaining monsters attention, peppering the beasts with bullets to ensure they left Bec alone, the Hunewearl wondered just what the Ranger was up to. Most folks who relied on guns preferred to keep their distance – Just what was she playing at? “Hey! Stop that! You sound like an idiot!” Shoving free of the Booma, Bec turned and called out to the ranger, but her voice was drowned out by the howls of the boomas as they scrabbled at the base of the tree, along with the ear plugs she kept firmly lodged in her ears. Bec watched with a slight grimace as the monsters were blanketed with a spray of bullets, giving a sigh. Well, she couldn’t deny that Kylli had effectively dealt with the entire lot of Boomas, and her strategy was sound and level-headed in the situation.

Behind her, the Booma roared and attempted to carve into the petite girl’s back. As if acutely aware of it’s movements, Bec suddenly thrust her sword backwards, not even glancing as she withdrew it with careless ease, the beast felled cleanly through the stomach as it fell lifelessly next to her. In front of her, Kylli hopped down from the tree, looking more than a little pleased with herself as she spoke cheerfully.

"Oh Bec ~ Time to chop ~"

The HUnewearl made a little eyeroll, kneeling by the monster next to her as she carefully began cutting free the succulent pieces of meat, leaving the spoiled pieces aside. “I dunno how you can say that so cheerfully – You make me sound like some kind of psycho serial killer.” Sitting up as she placed the pieces into storage, she moved over to some of the other beasts and continued the process, idly chatting to Kylli as she moved about the business. She was faintly aware that the girl was making her do the grunt work, but she didn’t entirely mind.

“Y’know, for a Rookie, that wasn’t half-bad.” Bec made a particularly violent jerk as she tore through a booma’s arm. “But don’t expect me to say more than that.”

It took Bec only a moment to retrieve what would be necessary. It wasn’t as quality as Rappy meat, but it would suffice until the next time they’d need to make a hunting trip. The task they set out to complete, she idly looked to Kylli.

“So what was it you wanted to do next again? We’ve got plenty of time before we need to head back.”

~Ridly & Hal~

The corpses, along with the fire told an interesting story. The boomas had been dead long before the campfire was started, the latter still slightly smoldering, as if it had been burning no longer than an hour ago. Then there was the track marks. They told another story, and were perhaps the most recent, only a few minutes before they had arrived on the scene. What that all meant… Well, it was anyone’s guess.

Ridly could be thankful of the picture she took however, as the dirt was disturbed further as the Hildebear stomped forward, crushing dirt and twigs under its feet in its rampage. As Ridly continued to dodge its wide and heavy swings it grew frustrated, the pinpricks of pain lacing its body only serving to fuel its red hot anger. That fiery rage manifested as it lurched its head forward, shooting a streaking bolt of fire right at Ridly, its interest in Hal completely forgotten in its anger…

~Lance~

As Lance managed to miraculously snatch both the files and the body from under the noses of Ridly and Hal, there was perhaps one thing he had forgotten. A simple mistake, but one that might be looked upon poorly by ~R. The mag. Critical to all hunters, it would hold a record of Gil’s last moments up until death. On top of that, it had watched Lance ever so silently from its place in the bushes from its master. Too weak to fly, and cracked across its eye, it dimly beeped, before shutting off, entering its power saving mode.

Of course, how was Lance to know it had been there? Or to know it was still functioning? Only time would tell if it would be a critical error, or beyond that if he would remember or stand a chance of finding it. For now, his mission was complete, and he was free to return to the Vanguard.

Hal was thankful enough that Ridly stepped up and took charge as soon as the FOmar was knocked almost out of commission. To be honest, if it wasn’t for his Resta tech, the poor Force might’ve had to go home and get put in a body cast. Unfortunately, though the injuries were technically gone, Hal had to still deal with the lingering pain from his ordeal, the stinging causing him to lose a little focus as he struggled to concentrate on his next tech. After all, while he excelled at casting, offensive techs weren’t exactly his strong suit, and they usually took a bit of time for him to conjure up, especially when he needed an especially strong version of it.

That meant that Ridly would have to distract the beast a bit more, her peppering rain of bullets helping the situation a little, but doing no real substantial damage to the Hildebear. The Shifta buff did strengthen her shots a little, and it got stunned every now and then, but the monster eventually got frustrated at its inability to close in and started resorting to its long range attack. He could feel it charging up, preparing and ultimately firing a rather strong Foie right from its mouth. Though Hal hoped his companion had dodged it, it made little difference, as the Force had fully prepared his tech.

“Ridly, move,” he stated with a surprisingly commanding and serious tone. Once she was out of the way, either through her own volition or getting hit out of the way by the burst of flame, Hal thrust his hands and his staff forward towards the beast, and a spray of ice shards spewed forth towards it, the icicles from the Gibarta blast piercing the Hildebear’s tough hide a few times before the cold managed to freeze the monster solid. Hal snickered, walking up to the incapacitated beast with a smirk before turning to Ridly.

“Well, I’ll let you do the honours of taking it out however you like from here,” he said. “I’m going to start looking around. Hopefully our target should be nearby.” Hal was mostly using the reasoning that this was the last known location of the hunter, but could have just as easily used any of the information Ridly might of given him, including her assessment of the fire and those tracks, assuming she’d given him that information at one point or another.

As Hal searched the outer points of the clearing, around the brush that surrounded the area, he managed to hear a little rustling where something or someone may or may not have been spying on them. He of course had no idea as to whom or what it was, or whether or not it was really anything at all. Naturally, after the fight with the Hildebear, the Force was a bit wary of any movement within the forest, and he carefully approached the next portion of bushes near the aforementioned noises. However, as he did, his mag, Sunni, started beeping and spinning around, forcing him away from what might’ve been in that direction.

“What is it, Sunni?” He asked, petting it to try and calm it down. But as he did, it seemed to pull him in another direction, one away from those noises and towards a patch of bushes. It pulled him directly towards one in particular, as if to encourage Hal to investigate. Peering inside, he saw something shimmering within the deepest part of the plant. Reaching in, Hal managed to pull out something that definitely could be assumed to be near and dear to their target’s heart, his mag. Sunni hummed and whirled around once he found it, both in excitement and in concern. The poor thing was barely alive now, its eyelense cracked and its power supply nearly exhausted, forcing it to go into hibernation mode. So, naturally, after his discovery...

“Ridly! Come check this out!” He cried out, waving the RAnewearl over. And no matter her response, Hal would say the following.

“Even if it didn’t belong to Gil, I need to get to the Science Wing ASAP and get it fixed. I can’t stand to see a mag like this...” He looked down at it with a sorrowful look, Hal’s own mag beeping and humming in response. He paused for a moment, contemplating the situation until he finally came up with some reasoning that would sink into Ridly’s head a little better. She didn’t seem the sentimental type, after all.

“...Plus, it might have some valuable information. It was near this clearing, after all. Either way, I’ll meet you at the Science Wing, okay?”

Standing up, he pulled his sleeve back and began to type on his wrist communicator, requesting Rio for immediate pickup.

Kylli leaned back against the tree as Bec bent over and began to chop the monster into long strips, removing her earplugs just in time to hear the HUnewearl's words to her. The other girl was moving the pieces into storage as she finished the beast and moved on to the other one. "Eh, it's okay. Psycho serial killers are always remembered in history ~" She waved her hand slightly in front of her nose as Bec began to slice again, her movements swift and skilled. The sight of the dead monsters being chopped up like they were butcher meat didn't really bother her, although the smell was another question all together. It seemed to get into her nose and clung to her scent receptors.

She pocketed the earplugs as she listened to Bec's half-compliment - it was technically not a compliment, but from Bec, it was really all that she had expected. "Thank you," She said, keeping her tone slightly gracious so that it sounded mocking. Kylli flinched slightly as a splatter of blood threw up from a particularly forceful movement from Bec. It missed them both, but the splatter was enough to make Kylli gag slightly - most of the time when she hunted, she hunted for the game of hunting, not the game of harvesting the meat.

As Bec continued her work, she talked lightly to Kylli who responded in kind, not really concentrating on anything. She was wondering idly if maybe she should help Bec - to get the job done faster - but when she took a tiny step forward, the smell increased exponentially and she stepped back again immediately. I should have brought a noseplug, not earplugs, She thought, wondering if it would look bad if she pinched her nose to keep the smell from infiltrating her nostrils. In the end, she decided against it. She'd only just gotten into Bec's 'good' books - she didn't want to fall out so quickly.

Finally, Bec finished - it had actually only been a few minutes, but to Kylli's poor nose, it had felt like an eternity. Her eyes had started to water at the foulness, and she couldn't help but admire Bec slightly for her ability to go through the mauling work with so little reaction to smell or the messiness - not that she was going to tell Bec that.

Not that she was going to compliment Bec on anything. From what she'd seen, the girl didn't need it at all. But still, despite knowing that if she told the other girl, she would inspire a long rant about how amazing she was and how Kylli should expect that level of amazingness from her, Kylli couldn't help but mildly admire the older Hunter. She was talented. She was fast - and she was definitely very experienced at what she did. When Kylli had looked up from her pile of monsters, Bec had simply speared her Booma without even looking at it, an effortless motion that suggested to Kylli that she hadn't actually been in danger - not like what would have happened to her if she had charged into the middle of a group of Boomas.

Bec looked up at her, the meat safely secure in storage. “So what was it you wanted to do next again? We’ve got plenty of time before we need to head back.”

It took a moment for the question to filter past Kylli's outer brain and into her processing quarters, but eventually she realized that Bec was talking to her. She looked at the little blond girl - who, she was starting to realize, sort of reminded her of an evil pixie - and thought about the question. She could hunt the monsters around the mountains whenever - that job didn't look like it was closing soon, and she had competition for her other job, so it was probably better to take that one...

"Let's go check up on that hunter," Kylli said, checking the mission details. She glanced at Bec. "You wanna call up Rio or see if we can get there by foot?"

Lance's eyes widened in shock. How could I have forgotten about the Mag? Darn, now I'll have to take drastic measures! Lance quickly pulled out his Gunblade aiming towards Hal, but he couldn't just pull the trigger, could he? Should he just drop Hal, end his life, then do the same to his partner? Lance wasn't that type of guy, but he was loyal to R, and he needed to complete the task at hand, whatever the cost. Lance heard Hal ask Ridly whether they should call Rio, or travel back by foot. Lance needed to make his choice, and eventually his loyalty to R won over his sense of right and wrong. He still couldn't kill Hal, but he could destroy the Mag. Taking careful aim, Lance shot, just barely missing a hole in one of the Mag's sides, instead, it passed through the trunk of a nearby tree, splattering wood and causing leaves to fall. Lance now realised that, along with still having his mission incomplete, he'd given away his position to both Hal and Ridly. R would not look at his failure kindly. "Damn".

Almost immediately, Lance turned on his heel and took off, running as fast as only a peak level athlete could. All those days of training and exercise had finally paid off. He had no doubts that Hal wouldn't catch Him, but Hal's companion seemed like a bit of trouble. Luckily, Lance had a plan. He pulled out his device, contacting R and keeping his voice low. As soon as the R appeared on the screen, Lance leaped up into the trees, landing with a barely audible thud and quickly blending in with his surroundings. "R, I've retrieved the data and files, but I seem to have gained an unwanted audience. What should I do with them?".

((OOC: Also, I've been wondering, Tanman, will R be put into the 'Notable NPC's' Character Sheet, or....? ))
(( OOC: EDIT: I've fixed up my Post, hopefully it doesn't cross the Godmodding lines, but to voice my own side, it was nearly dawn when I posted, and my brain was half asleep. Still, I apologise, ))

Ridly was slowly starting to grow worn out from the constant leaps and rolls she made, each putting her just outside of of the monster's reach and out of harm's way. Of course she couldn't keep it up forever and the shots from her gun seemed to be doing little other than aggravating it. Bounding back one more time, the Hildebear seemed to have finally given up it's chase, giving Ridly a moment to catch her breath. Or so she thought as she found herself staring into a blistering fire from the mouth of the creature. Not being entirely familiar with it, it was only until the last moment she realized it would be a projectile coming at her and not a streamed blowing of flames. On instinct, she tried diving out of the way, but not quite in time. The blast caught her leg, sending her spinning out of her poised dodge and onto the ground prone.

Luckily for her, a certain partner came striding up behind her, throwing forth a a storm of cold energy. Ridly slowly rose to feet in a wince of pain as she watched the Hildebear being frozen solid before her. At Hal's comment, she wiped a thumb under her nose with a huff, almost feeling as though she had hardly done anything to help in this fight. "Baah, that's good enough," she replied, giving the preserved creature a look over while Hal was led away by his mag.

Finally allowing her attention to stray from the threat at hand, she glanced around the surroundings, being wary of any further wild creatures that may come swinging out of the bushes and right on top of her self. There was a rustling in the bushes and a glimmer of something metallic beyond the obscuring flora. Ridly licked the corner of her lips as she raised her gun to a ready position, being too late to call out to the oddity or warn Hal of another possible hostile. Hearing a shot ring out and come crashing into a tree, she retaliated with a firing of her own. Of course, the wide scattering of her ready shot would only manage to down the branches of a few stray trees. She prepared herself to move, but there were no further shots taken on either of two.

Dashing over to the call of her name, she looked down at whatever it was Hal was digging up. "What are you doing getting all weepy over a toy?" she spoke, letting her shot hang from her shoulder as she lifted her hat a moment, sweeping a hand through her hair with a sigh before plopping it back down on her head, "Whatever, do what you want. Obviously there's something goin' on here or there wouldn't be a reason for someone trying to assassinate us. Worthless, whoever it is."

She waved a dismissive hand over her shoulder. "Our mission is done here. Though, I wouldn't put it past the two airheads that also took the mission to be coming past here and to add to that, one of them had a rifle," she mentioned, pointing two fingers at the splintered tree beside them, "I have nothing else to do here, so I'd rather get back up to the ship. Confront that wench in a safer place. Make the call for two."

~Kylli~

At Kylli’s somewhat delayed response to her question, Bec returned the somewhat blank stare as she came to stand on her feet, Montann smirking a little in that way where Bec couldn’t tell what she was thinking. Did she get some blood on her or something? No, that didn’t seem to be it… Somehow, she felt she’d prefer to let Kylli’s private thoughts about the HUnewearl be just that.

“We’re over the opposite side of the forest. It’d probably be best if we head back and get relocated a little closer…” Hoisting the bag onto her back, Bec flipped out her communicator, fiddling with it to request pick up. “Besides, I don’t think Tawny will appreciate letting this meat spoil.”

Folding the device away, Bec gestured Kylli over to the centre of the clearing. It did not take long before swirling blue lights began to envelope them, and the familiar feeling of being broken down into photons and speeding through space like vivid lights overtook each of them. Trails of glowing lights warped and flitted around their eyes, stars whipping past in an instant, along with other, brighter glows sped down towards the surface. Finally, a blinding whiteness began to approach them, before fading back into reality as they burst from the pool of water, landing on the metal catwalk in front of Rio.

“How’s that for service? Got you back here in record time, and kept you in one piece.” Rio smiled cheerfull before remembering her position, breaking into a salute. “Oh, and welcome back Hunters. I trust your mission was successful?” Putting on her best ‘gruff authoritarian voice’, she giggled and stuck out her tongue before giving an exclamation of surprise.

“Oh my! I certainly am popular today! Would you two mind scooting over and turning in to Sienna? I’ve got another couple returning for pick up.” Beginning to tap away at the keyboard, the pool of water quickly began glowing as she started to recall another duo…

~Ridly & Hal~

As the beam of energy quickly whisked the duo to the surface, they’d find themselves thrown out just in front of both Bec and Kylli, who had quickly managed to shuffle out of the way. Safety procedures declared that retrieval shouldn’t be done until the platform was clear, but Rio had a penchant for ignoring the rules that were a little too stifling.

Glancing over Ridly and Hal, Bec smirked a little at the slightly singed Ridly, along with the dirt-stained yellow robes of Hal. “Aw, did you guys have trouble on your mission?” She teased, the sarcasm in her voice palpable as she snickered. Considering the derisive comments they had earlier, it gave her some smug satisfaction that they’d encountered difficulty.

“Perhaps you’re getting over the hill and should leave the tough stuff to us? Especially if you botched a simple search mission.” Bec laughed heartily, her ego stoked only further by their ‘success’ over the other group.

~Lance~

The monitor crackled slightly, before a heavily altered artificial voice came through, the screen emblazoned by a regal looking capital R.

“Preparations have been made to provide a cover story. For now, avoid confrontation and return to the Vanguard as soon as possible. We will review your failings and determine appropriate action. Return the file to the deposit box when safe to do so, and until we contact you again, we ask that you continue your original task, and blend in as per normal.”

With that, the screen dimmed once more, leaving Lance alone within the forest…

Naturally, Hal was oblivious as compared to his partner, who was astute enough to actually recognize the danger they were in. Barely even noticing the bullet graze the nearby tree, he didn’t understand why Ridly was shooting into the forest, a confused look crossing his face as he watched her stride over to him.

“What are you doing getting all weepy over a toy?” she asked after Hal, lazily sweeping her hand through her hair just before Hal spoke. As he did, there was a certain look of distaste in his concerned expression. How could she call that hurt mag just a toy?

“It’s not just a toy...” he stated. “...Mags are like any pet. Something you need to take care of and appreciate. They’re living things in my eyes, and deserve to be called more than just a simple plaything.” He sighed as he continued to examine the hurt mag, hoping that the damage would be reparable. However, his ears perked up when he heard something rather alarming from his partner.

“...Obviously there’s something goin’ on here or there wouldn’t be a reason for someone trying to assassinate us...”

Hal’s eyes widened as he looked up from the object that had been preoccupying most of his attention.

“...You mean to say...someone just tried to kill us? Just now? Was that why you were shooting into the forest?” He gazed back down at the mag in his hands. “This little guy must be more important than we realize. All the more reason I should be getting this mag back sooner rather than later.”

Hal nodded in response to Ridly’s request to be ‘beamed up’ as well, and brought his wrist communicator back out, adding that in to his request to Rio. And sure enough, after only a few short moments of waiting, a familiar white light enveloped the two hunters, bringing them back safely aboard the Vanguard.

Though the force was still a bit preoccupied by the mag in his hands, he couldn’t help but overhear Bec’s comments towards him and his partner. He sighed, turning to her, at which point the situation at hand with the mag would be obvious. He didn’t know if she shared his sentiment, but surely she would at the very least understand it.

“Look, as much fun as it would be to stick around and talk, I don’t have time for teasing banter right now. I’ve got to get this hurt mag to the Science Wing without delay.” He paused for a moment before realizing he needed add something that might help their case. After all, the thought that they failed would be easy teasing grounds for the HUnewearl, something he just could not allow, more for Ridly’s sake than his own. He didn’t entirely mind the attention. “This mag is the key to that rescue mission, after all. But, Ridly, I trust you’ll come up with an even more crushing reply for us in the meantime,” he said, patting his partner on the back and managing a smile. “We’ll talk later, folks. See ya.” And with that, the force took his leave, nodding to Rio in thanks as he rushed off past her.

“Tiara! Hey, Tiara!” Hal shouted before he even got in the door. He didn’t want to catch her off guard and by surprise again, after all. As he entered, he approached her, holding out the damaged mag in one hand, gesturing towards her.

“I need your help. This mag...it’s uh...it’s pretty badly hurt,” he stated, his voice probably a tad bit shakier than she remembered. He did his best to keep his composure with the rest of the crew, but here, so close to the ward that might save this mag, he seemed to get a bit caught up. “Is there anything you can do to help it?” He gave Tiara that same familiar concerned expression for a few moments before he cleared his throat and added, “Erm...because it has important information for a mission, y’know...” His voice trailed off.

Lance nodded once, giving R a two-finger salute, and then placing the small monitor back into his pocket. Lance turned, pulling out his communicator and contacting Rio for pickup. A few seconds after dialing, a beam of light washed over him, and he was transported back into the Vanguard.

Lance's eyes opened, surveying the people around Him. He barely noticed Hal leaving the room, and when Lance did, a darkness consumed his eyes, followed by an immediate recolor of his pupil. His eyes remained red for a moment, but he blinked a few times, and they returned to their natural golden color. Lance turned to Ridly. "Where's he off to so quickly?". Lance then turned too Kylli after receiving an answer from Ridly. "Hey, I know you. You were in that Bar when that drunk decided to cause trouble. Where'd you just come from anyways, finish a Mission?". Lance glanced at Bec, whom he also recognized from the Bar. He was tempted to just leave and go straight for the Deposit Box, but that'd look suspicious.

"Hmm..." Kylli said, half-absently, half-thoughtfully. She supposed that Bec was right, though she wasn't sure how long exactly it took for meat to spoil. But then again, she wasn't exactly sure how long it might take them to go through the rescue thing either. It didn't seem like anything that serious, but there was always the chance that something weird could happen and delay them coming back. "Alright," She said, her voice light. "Let's go back then." She followed Bec quietly, a bit subdued now, though she wasn't quite sure why. The shooting had been fun - although the afterwards had been a bit less than...her style.

They stood next to each other in the center of the circle, and then light enveloped them, everything quickly shattering into a million pieces. It was hard to think under such circumstances, but Kylli had enough grip of mind to admire all the pretty colors flowing around her and the interesting feel of being broken and transported away, before the sensation was over.

The two of them broke the surface of the pool of water, and Kylli felt herself take a deep breath as if she had actually just come up from a swim and was now breathless. A quick moment and they had landed on the metal catwalk before the smiling girl who had just picked them up and brought them back. Based on her cheerfulness and the quick, sparkling words that she was saying, it was quite apparent that she was rather proud of herself - or at least glad of the company. It was hard to tell which.

Kylli hadn't even had a chance to comprehend Rio's question about their success before Rio's attention switched to another call asking for transportation back. Her instant reaction was to step away from the spot, a feat that she just managed to accomplish before another pair came shimmering from the water - a young man and the tall woman who'd challenged them before. She blinked at them, remembering that they'd taken the rescue mission as well. They were back now and in not so mint condition judging by the state of their clothes.

Bec was smirking besides her, an expression that she followed up with a verbal arrow thrown their way - she'd obviously not been too happy with the brush-off from earlier. Kylli glanced at her and raised an eyebrow. "Immature, aren't we?" She murmured quietly, although she was fairly sure that no one, not even Bec could hear her. She looked at the pair - the man was saying something about being in a hurry, and before she could react, he'd darted out of the room, cradling something between his hands.

...So, dangerous, Kylli thought. A slow smile started to slip across her face and a song began dancing between her eyes again. She glanced at Lance, recognizing him as well - the overly eager hero.

"That's right ~" She said, keeping her voice light. "Just finished a mission." Before, she'd have been more eager to converse with him, but not right now. Right now, she had larger things to deal with. She turned to face Ridly and gave her a smile to make up for Bec's rudeness - although she was fairly sure that it wouldn't work. Her face was probably very predatory right now - very predatory - and Ridly would probably think that she was just adding onto Bec.

"Hi, Miss ~" Her voice was cheery. "Welcome back. How was your mission? Did you guys find the guy?" Kylli glanced at the traces of dirt and then back up into the woman's face. "Did you find something interesting?" Her voice curled on the last word, and her smile grew.

Ridly stared at Hal for a moment with a look crossing between shock and disgust. "You mean you didn't even notice a single thing? Not a person in the trees, not a bullet three steps away from doing through your head?" she spoke in disbelief, a hand raised to her forehead, "You gotta' be kidding! You belong in a lab, not the field." Turning away from him, she stared off into the forest. For one, to keep an eye out for any more disturbances as she waited for pick up and two, she really didn't have much more to say on the topic. He will learn when he gets killed.

"We'll talk about your pets some other time. Let's just get out of here for now," she waved off the topic, coincidentally with the moment that the light picked the both up and whizzed them away back to the station. She landed on the plank with a snarl. Nothing was going right today and they likely wouldn't get paid for the mission since they technically didn't find a person or the body. Not to mention getting toasted and having to put up with a partner who seemed to barely even understand the premise of caution.

And then there was the fact that the first person Ridly had to hear upon arriving were those two bothersome girls. She gave a sniff of disinterest, crossing her arms as she merely glared at their words. Hal seemed so eager to reply, that she let him do the talking as she looked them over. A thought suddenly came back to her. Those two were the only ones that would have known of the mission to retrieve the lost hunter. They had voiced their plans to go looking for him as well and sounded like they didn't care for competition. The red head had a rifle.

"Yeah, yeah, go have fun or whatever," she growled, roughly rolling her shoulder to push off Hal's friendly gesture, "I'll crush her alright."

Someone else showed up behind her from the portal, but Ridly was too focused on something else to bother with greeting him or giving much or a reasonable answer to his question, "Don't know. Don't care." That was her instinctive response for the moment, but thinking on it, it was probably the best as well. If she was to believe her partner, that mag was the only lead they would have on the mission and their only chance of getting paid and a 'successful' marking. No one else needed to know what was on it or where it was going, even though he had already announced it. No one around here especially.

She returned Kylli's smile with a dead pan stare, sizing her up as she approached. The inclination of how she spoke and that sarcastic, mocking expression was all that was left to set Ridly off. Suspicions confirmed. The ginger was in for trouble. "Think you's a joker, ah?" Ridly exclaimed, raising her voice with vicious tones of threat. She lashed out at Kylli, aiming to grab hold of the collar of her clothing once she was close enough. If it went through, she would lift the girl onto her tip toes, wild eyed with no concern for Kylli's comfort. "Just kill 'em, that your solution? Should 'ave checked yourself! I'm naw gonna' let you get even try another shot on me, real talk! Ya's gun or your arm, one of 'em's gettin' snapped!

Kylli's eyebrows raised in mild surprise at the woman's tone when she turned to stare at her - that and her cold stare told Kylli trouble was coming, but she wasn't quite sure why. As far as she knew, her words had been very civil - a little bloodthirsty maybe, a bit teasing perhaps, but not enough to warrant this amount of anger.

But then, maybe she has anger management problems, Something not nice in the back of Kylli's head said.

The voice and the look had been enough warning that when the lunge came Kylli managed to step back in time, leaning backwards to allow for a clear miss. She continued to skip backwards lightly, making note of where the metal bridge ended in case and where the other two on the bridge were, just in case she had to run to avoid the fate that the woman was threatening - it did not sound very pleasant - at all. Kylli liked her arms - she needed them to shoot - and she prized her guns above almost anything else. So she could either run or she could fight back.

She glanced over at Rio and decided against it. Rio didn't need that kind of trouble on her hands - and besides, she could hold her own in physical combat, even if she wasn't amazing at it - all those martial arts lessons had some effect.

Quickly, Kylli holstered her guns and then held her palms up for the woman to see. Everything in her was fizzling for a fight - she could take out this young woman faster than she did the Boomas - two shots - if the woman was tough - and she would be dead. But that was illegal, and she'd have hell to pay for it. And besides, hunting humans wasn't quite as fun as hunting animals - there was always that lack of the pure chase - humans usually didn't use their flight or fight instinct very well.

Despite her pledge not to make the woman angry, Kylli couldn't help but say, "I'd rather not have anything broken thanks." But then, she switched into a more serious mode. She lowered the tenor of her voice and took another step back, her hands still held in mid-air - not only did it look like she was surrendering, but it also kept her open in case she needed to block something - although it did also have the disadvantage of leaving her stomach uncovered. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like that. I - don't plan on killing anyone if there's a choice." She paused and took another step back, still tensed for an attack, although she was praying that the woman would calm down a bit - fighting in these quarters would be very annoying. "I was wondering - still high off the hunt..." She shook her head and then looked very seriously at the woman, locking eyes, willing her sincerity to come through and stop the rampage before it came out in greater force.

"I'm sorry."

~Hal~

Tiara Fornell raised her head from her work, removing her glasses as she set aside the papers she had been working on. Sitting up from the orange seat, she turned towards Hal as he approached, eying just what he had in his hand as she closed the gap between them. In the corner of the room, Lucy’s eyes flashed as she watched the two, her ever blank expression silently surveying them.

As Hal spoke his concerns surrounding the welfare of the Mag, Tiara cradled it in her hand, giving it a few soft taps and listening to the yield. Tracing her hand over it’s surface, she was beginning to get an idea of the extent of the damage, feeling each of the cracks. Still, the soft vibration she could feel was a good sign – It was still operating. Her focus changed as she realised Hal was asking her something, and the intense way she’d been investigating the Mag probably had him worried. Catching his follow up regarding the mission, she pieced together just what he might of asked, responding.

“Although most of the damage is external, the key systems inside seem to be okay… It’ll take a while for me to clean it up, but I should be able to perform a data extraction…” Trailing off as she carried it over to the nearby bench, she grabbed the cable she had used earlier and wheeled over the terminal, speaking to Hal as she did.

“If you don’t mind me asking, do you have any idea how this happened? The damage doesn’t seem to match up to local wildlife…” Tiara mumbled the last part as she brought up a magnifying glass, further investigating the scratches and dents. Though some of them looked like talons or claws, masked within them appeared to be more artificial damage, almost like…

Shaking her head, Tiara set aside the lens, lacking the confidence to back her assertions. Bringing up the cable, she began fiddling with it before sighing at the newest finding. “It looks like the connection port is heavily damaged. It’ll take me some time to remove and replace it… It’s a delicate operation.” Tiara frowned a little, the survival prospect for the little guy dropping considerably with this discovery. Not that she’d mention that to Hal – He seemed as attached to this guy as she would be to Lucy…

Tiara jumped back as she noticed Lucy’s glowing eyes staring straight into hers, her focus into her thoughts having made it all the easier to surprise the scientist. It seemed Lucy had a habit of doing that, but no matter how hard Tiara tried to convince the girl not to sneak up on her, it seemed it would never sink in.

“May I?” Lucy asked, causing Tiara to blink in confusion. “May you what…?”

The FOcaseal reached to the Mag, lifting it up to her head height. Leaning in, her eyes were filled with the soft blue glow, staring deep into the Mag’s lens. She stood like that for some time, Tiara watching in silent curiosity, before taking a cautious step forward.

“Lucy? Are you…?”

“That just about does it.” Lucy spoke, though it was soft, barely more audible then a whisper. The suddenness however, did cause Tiara to shriek a little and jump back, before blushing profusely at how embarrassing her action was.

“Wh-what? What did you-“

“The charges are set, and the package is down. Still, this is a lot of hassle just to detonate one parcel…” Lucy continued to utter the words, interrupting and paying no heed to Tiara’s concerned shakes.

“Still, the guy is paying big money, so I can’t say I-Hmm? Oh, hey there. Don’t mind me, I’m just-“ Lucy stopped suddenly, her eyes flashing once again. After a delay, she continued.

“Did you replace the files? Yes, of course, no one will be the wiser. We can’t have anyone looking too deeply. Hey, we got what we came for, let’s get going.” Lucy continued to reel off the speech, not stopping for a moment as Tiara remained silent, attempting to make sense of the information that Lucy was giving.

“Water. No. No water. Water not right. No. No. Must not water. Man no water. Not water…” Lucy began to repeat herself over and over, descending into gibberish as Tiara began to shake her.

“Lucy! Lucy, snap out of it!” Tiara began desperately rattling the poor caseal back and forth, before finally, the lights in her eyes dimmed, and her speech stopped. Then, slowly, the brightness returned, Lucy looking around a moment.

“I… Tiara, I am sorry to have worried you.” Focusing her eyes onto the scientist, before the blonde FOmarl leapt forward into a hug, holding the FOcaseal tightly.

“It’s alright… You just scared me was all… Are you alright now?”

“Yes… There is no error to my system. I… Feel okay.”

Tiara smiled warmly, nodding. “Good, good, I’m glad. Would you mind going to check on Lawrence for me?” Tiara lightly turned the caseal around, taking the mag from her as she gently nudged her forward. Lucy took a look back at Tiara, before slowly striding off to find Lawrence. With a sigh, Tiara turned back to Hal.

“I’m sorry about that. I’m not sure what happened to her. I’ll work on repairing the mag as soon as possible… W-well, as best I can amongst my other jobs…” Returning back to her timid self, the FOmarl set the mag on the bench, her mind filled with suspicions and doubt…

~Ridly, Kylli & Lance~

“Ah-! H-hey! Fighting is strictly prohibited in the transportation chambers!” Rio stumbled out from around her terminal to try and get between the two huntresses, however, a swift arm bridged across her path, blocking her. Bec grinned, keeping her arm up like a barricade as she surveyed Ridly and Kylli.

“Easy there, I’m interested in where this is going. And don’t you think of interrupting them, Mr. Hero~” Bec’s tone was so snarky at the end of it, it was clear that such a title for Lance was not one of respect. Watching Kylli exchange words, the HUnewearl was quick to step in, not about to let her partner skip out on things so easily.

“Yeah, sorry that she’s gonna wreck that ugly face even more!” Bec grinned, her feisty nature probably the last thing that the already tense situation needed. “Come on, you got a beef with Kylli? She’ll wipe the floor with you, old bags.”

As the Hunter laughed heartily, Rio fervently attempted to quieten her with little success, Bec’s braggart nature far stronger than even the cheerful teleporter’s pleading. Striding up to Kylli, Bec gave Ridly a bit of a stare down, challenging – no - DARING her to try something. If anyone thought the RAnewearl had overconfident nerves of steel, clearly, they hadn’t met this HUnewearl.

“And even if she can’t, I wouldn’t exactly let my partner eat too much dirt unless I was behind it. Face it, you’re outmatched, outclassed and outnumbered.” Bec tossed her head a little, continuing to look at Ridly with a mocking smile.

“Basically, you’re out of your league~, but you don’t look like the smart or the respectful type, so I’ll let it go for now.” Waving her hand dismissively, as if Ridly wasn’t even worth her time, Bec turned, feinting vulnerability as she left her back completely exposed… Part of her was confident Kylli would step in and protect her if Ridly did try something, but she was prepared should that not be the case, watching Ridly’s reflection in the mirrored surface of the wall. In this biz, there was no rules against trash talk, but the moment someone tried to turn it physical, guards would step in – and the perpetrator would be the one to cop any fines associated with the transgression.

Lance sighed. Another fight. He was tempted to shoot Bec, then maybe cut her up into tiny pieces, but he was sure that R wouldn't approve of that. Lance simply grinned at Bec, a dangerous gleam in his eye. "Oh, I'm so sorry, Miss Amazing, I didn't know that your inflated ego was almost as large as the Vanguard. But don't mind me, I'm sure that even a Rat could wipe the floor with you". Lance was tempted to grin, but he kept his refined posture, and simply stayed back from stoppng Ridly. Lance grinned. Should he allow Ridly to hurt Kylli? Yes? No? Yes? No?

Lance made his choice. He'd confront Hal later, but he had more important issues to handle right now. "So Miss Ridly? Did you actually manage to hit the person who shot at you and your partner? Or are you even worse at aiming than I thought when I first saw you? Now, do I have to waste my time stopping you, or are you going to step away from the kind lady, who's already apologised before I have to?".

Lance pulled out a Playing Card from his Pocket, an Ace of Diamonds, a small smile on his face. R had given it to him, for unknown reasons, but if anyone decided to snatch or destroy it..... well, let's just say that they'd probably end up in the Medical Ward. He continued looking at the Card, awaiting Ridly, Bec's and Kylli's replies.

Hal watched Tiara with bated breath as the scientist examined the mag he’d given to her, carefully inspecting it as she cradled it in her hands. The concerned expression on her face didn’t give the FOmar much hope, but he still remained cautiously optimistic. If Sunni had managed to find the mag’s signal on her own, then it was his sincere hope that the mag had some semblance of ‘life’ left and could be saved, both from a humanitarian standpoint, and from the standpoint that it contained vital data pertaining to his mission. Finally, after some time, Tiara assessed the situation, letting Hal breathe a sigh of relief.

“Thank goodness. I was really worried. I just saw how beat up it was and I feared the worst,” he stated, looking off to the side. Spacing out just a bit, he barely caught the mousey girl’s next question.

“If you don’t mind me asking, do you have any idea how this happened? The damage doesn’t seem to match up to local wildlife...”

After a moment’s pause for thought, Hal answered.

“...No, unfortunately not. I didn’t see what could’ve hurt it. My mag, Sunni, actually directed me towards the little guy. It was hidden amongst the bushes in the clearing where our target was last seen. I’m inclined to believe that it’s from the missing hunter we were sent after, but I suppose I can’t be too sure. Either way, I fear for what happened to the owner. I imagine it’s not often a mag is found like this.”

After another short paused, Hal continued speaking, a weak smiling forming on his face.

“But, you’re an expert, right? So I’m confident you’ll get it fixed up and good as new in a jiffy,” he added.

Tiara’s next statement about the connection port didn’t exactly bode well, the frown on the FOmarl’s face giving away that the prospect of the little guy’s survival just dipped down a bit. She continued to prep the mag on the work bench until the FOcaseal, Lucy, managed to sneak up on her.

With a healthy amount of curiosity, Hal watched the scene unfold as Lucy seemed to go into a trance, mimicking what Hal assumed was a conversation of some sort. It all seemed like gibberish until the FOmar started piecing together just what he was hearing. No, this wasn’t just any regular conversation. This was what the mag heard. Gil’s mission must’ve been to set explosive charges for a single parcel, and that silence must’ve been when he...well, Hal wouldn’t make the assumption that he was dead just yet. Either way, the ‘voices’ after that were definitely the perpetrators. And the last part...didn’t make much sense. ‘Water... water not right... Man no water...’ Could that be why the mag abandoned its master? Was that the mag’s actual thoughts invading into the conversation he heard?

Lost in his thoughts, Hal nearly missed Tiara addressing him once more.

“I’m sorry about that. I’m not sure what happened to her. I’ll work on repairing the mag as soon as possible... W-well, as best I can amongst my other jobs...”

Hal nodded, but decided to add some input of his own before the girl went back to work.

“I actually think I know just what happened. Well, sort of anyways,” he stated, crossing his arms. Her incredulous look made him a little less confident, but he continued anyways. “If my assessment is correct, I believe what Lucy just rattled off is its owner’s situation from its point of view, the mag only able to record what was said by the parties involved, as well as its own thoughts.” He put a finger to his chin in thought. “The only thing I don’t get entirely is the end. Water...the only reason I figure it’d mention something like that so alarmingly would be...well, it’d be the reason it abandoned its master and hid itself in the bushes.”

Hal leaned forward, examining the damage to the mag. Tiara was right. It didn’t look like local wildlife. Not entirely anyways.

“If you’re right about the damage, and I’m right about that ‘conversation’, then we’ve got a seriously bad situation on our hands. We might’ve just stepped in something a little bigger than the both of us...” he gave Tiara a serious look before he went back to smiling. “...Then again, we both could just be overanalyzing things. No need to get into conspiracy theories just yet, right?” He laughed. “Hopefully repairing the mag will get us some visual data and help us negate our suspicions. But for now, I figure the two of us need a little break. After all, I promised we’d talk over coffee sometime, right? Might as well be now, if you’re not too busy.”

All this stuff was getting a little heavy, and Hal felt he needed to help both him and Tiara lighten up a bit. A nice coffee break would do just the trick, or so he thought.

There were no further need for words at this point, Ridly though. Both of the duo had forwardly admitted to the attempted assassination in her eyes. One of them being apologetic about it for some strange reason and the other was so full of herself that there was no doubt she was looking to finish the job right here and now. Ridly's fist clenched up at her wiffed grasp, glaring at Kylli with gritted teeth as she barely stood to listen to her explanation and apology.

She wouldn't buy it. That girl was essentially begging for a way out of her wrath. But, through the tirade of threats and intimidation from Bec, something dawned on her. What was that guy saying now? Ridly had never specifically stated that fire had been traded between herself and the stranger in the trees. She wasn't as dim witted as first impressions might give. Something was definitely wrong here.

Her snarl lightened a bit with eyes shifting between the three people challenging her to make the first move. Ridly wasn't about to seek revenge on someone unless she had no doubt they deserved it. This was the case moments ago, but now she wasn't too sure. She clenched a bundle of her loose pants, frustrated with the situation she was in, even if it was her own fault mostly.

"One of you was aiming to kill me out there," she growled, eying her suspects and accusingly pointing at Bec as she walked away, "So, someone better give it up. Now, or everyone's getting hurt." Unlike the neighboring minds, she wasn't seeking to kill anyone. At the least, she want to show them that she was nothing to be trifled with. The problem was that it was even obvious to herself, three on one in a fist fight would not go well for her no matter how highly she praised herself. Empty threats and the hope that someone else would see it her way were her only defenses at the moment.

"You," Ridly barked, turning her hand to Kylli, "You have guns and you knew exactly where I would be in the forest." She gestured over to Lance, "Tryhard here comes in spouting off things he shouldn't know, with a projectile no less." Stomping forward, she followed a few steps after Bec's retreat, raising a fist up with a shout, "And you better keep walking before you get wrecked! Nothin' but a snot nosed bitch looking to make a fool of herself!"

Turning her head, Kylli glared at Bec - oh she just wants to get us chopped up, doesn't she? That little brat... If that woman attacks, I'm gonna let her get hit. Well. At least once. Maybe twice. - and then glanced at the young man as he stepped into the conversation. As he went on, she began smiling slightly at him. He seemed rather nice - and at least he wasn't threatening her, although just the threat itself was enough to irritate her slightly. She didn't want to cause any trouble here - beating someone was fine, but starting fights for no reason - or at least no good reason that she could see - that, she could do without.

Her attention switched back to the woman. She was starting to look more frustrated, but the anger was still clearly present as she began to rant, pointing at Bec, who's back was still turned away from them all. As she spoke, Kylli's eyes slowly grew wider and wider, her eyebrows lifting almost to her bang level.

'To kill her'? Kylli wondered. She glanced around, seriously wondering if she had walked into a mental hospital without noticing or something. To kill her? Is she crazy? Why the hell would -

"You," The woman whirled to glare at Kylli, who took a step back, hands still up in surrender, although she could feel irritation bubbling up now - it was not a standard feeling, nor one that she liked very much. "You have guns and you knew exactly where I would be in the forest."

Kylli felt like rubbing her forehead in frustration. Oh yeah, I knew where you were, but I didn't care. And seriously, do you think that - Kylli stopped herself and pulled herself out of the irritation in time to hear the woman's last words to Bec - very unflattering to say the least.

Wow. Wow. She is - insane. Kylli looked around her again, again trying to confirm if she had walked into an asylum. Currently the answer was still 'no', but Kylli hoped...no.

"You're..." Kylli paused, not wanting to cause more tension, but also annoyed enough to want to put this chick in her place - she probably could. She was almost definitely stronger - and she had range on her side, too. Diplomacy... "You're insane." ...Okay, I guess not. "I don't know what you just went through - that goes for me and Bec - I don't know about this guy," She pointed at the young man holding a playing card. " - But we were out hunting. Boomas. Not humans. Or Casts. Or Newman. We were just doing a job. A perfectly respectable job as far as I know. What you were doing...what you went through - " She shook her head. "I hope it was a lot if it drove you to paranoia and -" She waved her hand around. "Dementia?"

She shook her head again. "We don't know what you went through. We don't know - and, frankly? We don't really care what you went through. I just asked about the mission - not your own little private vendetta against the world or against yourself or - whatever." Kylli looked at the woman for a long moment. "I'm sorry if we offended you. I already said that. I tried very hard to be polite to you. I understand that the way I do things might be offensive to you, but..." She shrugged and shook her head. "I don't think that's a reason to attack me. Yell at me, fine. I can take that. Attack me - in a public terminal?" Kylli looked around the place and then back at the woman. "I'd recommend trauma therapy - or maybe another line of business, if one attack gets you this worked up."

For a moment she paused and then shook her head. "I'm sorry. That was rude. What you do is your business."

Kylli turned and walked up to join Bec, taking a light breath. "Come on ~ Let's go turn this in ~" She glanced at the young man and smiled a bit. "Thank you ~ for trying to help us. I'm Kylli." She jerked her head at the blonde next to her. "This is Bec. Come find us at the Pit Stop if you want to hang out or talk or -" There was a little flash of anger again "- or just get away from the stress and the anger around here." She waved at him and then started walking again.

~Hal~

“I actually think I know just what happened. Well, sort of anyways,” Hal’s assessment made Tiara’s heart leap, a wave of nervousness washing over her. H-had he worked it out? He seemed to understand exactly what Lucy had managed, but for the moment, seemed far more concerned with the content, then the ability that the caseal had just shown. That was… Good. Word couldn’t get out about what Lucy could do. She wasn’t ready yet…

The change in tone and expression from Hal broke her pensive expression, his request catching her completely off guard. No doubt, he believed that his talk of conspiracies had caused it, and was attempting to take her mind off things. Perhaps she should have been more concerned with those theories, but for the moment, her protective instinct over Lucy was clouding her judgement. Regardless of that, Tiara realised she was still yet to respond to Hal’s request, her face tinging slightly before she could finally stammer out a response.

“W-well, I am supposed to work on Bec’s mag…” Tiara looked away for a moment, feeling bad for turning him down. It was a pretty weak excuse after all. Perhaps, had she been more confident in herself, she’d have taken the opportunity. However, the poor introverted scientist was still quite socially inept, and her embarrassment prevented her from taking part in an activity she probably would enjoy…

~Ridly, Kylli & Lance~

Through Bec’s boasting, she hadn’t heard Lance at all - not that it would have bothered her at all – nor was she smart enough to work out just what the male hunter had revealed that he knew. What she did hear however, was Ridly flagrant accusations of each of them, along with her jealous (As Bec believed) and embarrassingly bad attempt at both an insult, and a threat. Pivoting on the spot, Bec planned on mouthing off some more before Kylli stepped in, attempting once more to diffuse the situation. Huffing a little, Bec shrugged and put her hands behind her head.

“I’m with you Kylli - This lady’s loco - and I’m not one for picking on the disabled, let’s get out of here”. Standing partly to the side, she allowed Kylli to catch up with her. “Definitely not worth the time dealing with the whack job.” Grinning as she walked side by side with her new partner, the HUnewearl came to stop a moment as the RAmarl turned back towards Lance, introducing the two. Bec frowned a little as she did so, deciding to interject with her own point of view, but instead ended up muttering it under her breath.

“Not that we needed it, bucko…” Mumbling, she began walking in an attempt to get Kylli to follow, to which she quickly did. The Hunter’s guild was now relatively devoid of people, the previous rush ended as the majority of the clientele was still on missions. With that in mind, there was no wait to approach the counter, Sienna having taken a seat and was reading a magazine, feet up on the counter.

Bec ahemed loudly to get her attention, however, Sienna made no effort to move or stand.

“Yeah, what is it?” She flicked through the magazine, not interested in her job in the slightest, it seemed. Bec growled a little, still somewhat angsty from her earlier encounter with Ridley.

“We’re here to turn our mission in. If you’re willing to do it, that is.” Once again, Bec’s sarcasm was creeping heavily into her voice. Unlike Ridley however, something good seemed to come for it as Sienna sighed, checking the mission requirements and that they had indeed brought back supplies, before handing them each a division of the pay packet.

“Take it on down to Tawny and you’re all done, so beat it and give me some peace.” Sienna grumbled, Bec hmmphing at the rude tone and snatching the cheque from her. “Thanks~”

Back at the transport station, Rio was attempting to calm Ridley in her own unique way, asking her to remain calm, reminding her of the rules, and attempting to find positives to the situation. “W-well Miss, at least you came out of it uninjured – and even if the mission wasn’t entirely successful, you probably gained a lot of good experiences down on the surface.”

Pausing, she moved up to Ridley. “I’d say you should be thankful for that, so try not to be too glum.” Smiling cheerfully in an attempt to get Ridley to do the same, the transporter girl went to the terminal, typing some things. “But um, going by the pickup records, I don’t think Bec or Kylli could’ve been anywhere near your location, seeing as they were over the other side of the forest… Just uh, thought you should know…” Speaking a bit softer, she looked to the screen, another request for a pickup coming in as she began bringing them back…

Hal crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow. Funny. She didn’t quite seem adverse to the idea by the way she said that, but if that was the case, why was she turning him down? Was it because she was too shy? Or did she really just have that much work to do? Well, the FOmar wasn’t normally one to be incredibly selfish, but the way she looked away made it seem more like a lame excuse than anything. He decided he’d press the issue a bit. If she was just shy, well, there were certain ways around it. And work? Well, there wasn’t much he could do to pull her away from that entirely, but he had some ideas.

“Oh, you mean that HUnewearl that was accosting you earlier?” he said, taking a step towards her. “Well, don’t worry about that. Any and all trouble you get in from her or anyone else you can blame on me.” He uncrossed he arms. “Not that I know it’ll help all that much, but I can definitely take some off some of the pressure of her scorn when she comes ‘round again. Besides, it’s kind of unfair of her to be so demanding on you, isn’t it?”

He smiled as he made his way closer, wrapping an arm around her shoulders as he leaned in close, chuckling. “Besides, I feel it’s about time you stood up to someone like that. Maybe it’s a bit passive aggressive, but I feel like every time she makes a rude comment like that, you should put off repairing her mag just a little bit longer. Show her for putting you down and insulting you by making her wait. She’d realize just what you were doing eventually, and find it to be in her best interest to be nice to you. Y’know, like everyone should.”

The FOmar leaned away from Tiara, but kept his arm around her, gently nudging her towards the exit of the Science Wing, as if to help her out the door. From the look of things, she’d definitely need some coaxing, the poor FOmarl probably unable to really speak by this point. She really just was that shy, after all.

“So, c’mon, Tiara. What do ya say? I promise I won’t keep ya too long from your work. It’ll be just long enough to ensure that we’re both a bit more relaxed, some you don’t need to put someone else in charge for too long. Plus, some relaxation is something I bet we both could use at the moment.”

In truth, Hal wasn’t looking forward to the prospect of having to go back to his thoughts on conspiracy and the like for the moment. Nor did he really want to go back to Ridly with the news he currently had. He knew that keeping Tiara from working on the broken mag did delay things a bit, but right now, he’d rather avoid the issues than take them head on, at least for the moment. He continued to guide her out of the Science Wing as he waited for her answer, and would probably guide them to the nearest coffee shop if he was successful in convincing her.

Being declared that she was insane didn't faze Ridly a bit. In fact, the way she saw the situation and their words, the two were afraid of her. Being afraid meant they were no longer any sort of threat. Well then, mission accomplished. Fortunately for everyone, she wouldn't have to resort to violence of any sort. With the current problem solved, she immediately began to settle down, shrugging off the two assumed offenders as they walked away in absolute agreement.

"Some experience," she replied with a wary sigh, the slightest bit annoyed with how frantic she was about keeping everything in order, "I now know I shouldn't let my guard down at any moment. Even where it should be safe." Ridly rolled her neck, stretching out the tense muscles that had flared up during the conflict, muttering to herself, "What a pain. Everyone wants a piece." Hearing that her suspects had been tracked to be a significant distance from where shots had been fired, she planted hands on the monitor and peeked over it's edge to get a look at the map. No matter good of a shot that Kylli person was, there would have been no way to even draw a line of sight from A to B. Ridly stepped back with her brows furrowed and scratching her cheek. It suddenly occurred to her that maybe she had been wrong all along.

Oh well. What's done is done and there was not a chance that she would go running after the two to apologize. They didn't deserve it. Still, she strode her way in the same direction to leave the building and go find the person that was suppose to be finishing up business and collecting payments. Of course her suspicions would be proven as she entered into the Science Wing to find Hal just leaving with his arm around Stutters McCower. Based on his actions in the field, he really didn't seem the type to ever stick to a plan.

"I seriously hope this isn't our payment," she spoke, putting herself between Hal, Tiara and the way out with her arms crossed, "Last I checked, I can't eat co-workers. So, c'mon, what did you do with that mag?"

Hal sighed as Ridly stepped up and pushed him and his somewhat pitiful attempt to be social and get his mind off of things away. It seemed such a notion just was not meant to be. Not for now, anyways. Granted, that wouldn’t stop him from trying again. This was just a minor setback. After all, at first, Tiara didn’t even want to go before, using that lame excuse, and he got around that. This one is at least a better excuse. He looked around Ridly, nodding to Tiara before speaking.

“Well, unfortunately the mag’s a bit beat up and broken, with the connection port in really rough shape. Tiara figures it’ll take a while to get fixed up, it seems, since the operation is a delicate procedure. On top of that, she’s got to shove that work in with all the other work she’s got to do, like fixing Bec’s mag and such.”

He paused for a moment. What would be the best way to phrase what happened next? Considering the look on Tiara face when he surmised what Lucy had done, the girl didn’t want a secret like that getting out. He scratched his head before continuing, deciding on a different approach.

“We were, however, able to extract a small amount of information before the mag was put back into hibernation and put onto the workbench,” Hal stated, shifting his weight to his left side and putting his left hand on his hip, gesturing with his right hand as he spoke. “The final conversation had between Gil and the assailants who made him disappear was recorded and stored, giving us a slight lead. It’s not much help without the visual data to go along with it, but to me, the conversation made me feel like the guy was set up from the start. He set a parcel to blow up, and as he did, he was taken out and...well, I have my suspicions, but I think he was dumped into some water. But as to why he was set up like that, I still have no idea.”

He shifted his weight to his right side now, but this time he brought his arms up and crossed them, matching Ridly’s pose. He looked down at the floor for a moment as he thought about this next part.

“Admittedly, I’m a bit worried about the whole thing, Ridly. Between the weird conversation and the odd markings on the mag, I’m beginning to think this whole thing is bigger than us. Way bigger. Conspiracy theory bigger.” He sighed and looked up at his partner. “I really just wanted to get my mind off of things. That’s why I was planning on taking a quick break to discuss things with Tiara. But, if you want to head off somewhere, that’s fine. I’ll have to save it for another time.”

He was attempting to justify his actions, of course, but he already knew Ridly was unlikely to accept such a soft excuse. As much as he wanted to spend some time with Tiara, he was somewhat prepared for her disapproval. Mentally prepared, anyways. He'd have to set something up with Tiara after she finished her work for the day. In any case, Hal didn’t have anything to say in response to her upcoming accusations, if she had them, but he did have one small thought on the issue of finishing the mission, if that was her aim, of course.

“However, if we’re off to collect, then we’d better make sure the mission stated whether or not they just wanted information on where Gil might be, or if they wanted him alive. If they wanted him alive, then we’re unfortunately boned. I’m...fairly certain he’s gone...” He looked down at the floor, the idea making him shutter a bit as he waited for a response from Ridly. He knew he’d have to deal with death, but the death of hunters he wasn’t entirely prepared for...

~Hal & Ridly ~

As Hal closed in a little, Tiara shrunk back, a little intimidated by the fact that he was pressing the point. The mousy professor had no real backbone, so the challenge to her ideals was met with little resistance, other than that of fear for the repercussions.

“I don’t think Bec would accept it as a viable excuse… I-I mean it is my job to take care of the mags and such.” Tiara softly mumbled before squeaking a little as Hal wrapped his arm around her shoulder, flushing with embarrassment. At his suggestion of revenge at Bec, Tiara bowed her head, shaking it slightly.

“I couldn’t do something mean like that… A-and Bec and everyone aren’t that mean to me… They’re just… giving criticism…” Trailing off towards the end of the sentence, she became vaguely aware that they were shuffling closer to the exit, her heart fluttering a little in her chest at the prospect of it. W-was this what she thought it was? Would she really ditch her responsibilities for a moment and… and was he…?

The sudden interruption of Ridly brought Tiara to a series of stuttering titters as she awkwardly separated from Hal, sheepishly sneaking a step or two back towards the lab. The red blush was probably accentuated by the look of shocked concern as Hal began to explain what he discovered from the mag, Tiara relaxing only a little as he avoided implicating Lucy.

Listening in on the discussion between Hal and Ridly, feeling much out of place and exposed, the sound of someone approaching from behind her didn’t startle the scientist for once, Tiara turning to see a fellow colleague of hers.

Lester Warwick, was a veritable genius, with majors in biology, bio-chemistry, synthetic mechanics, photon mechanics, the works. A quirky fellow, it was hard to ever tell just what he was up to given his diverse knowledge, but for the most part, he creeped poor little Tiara out. If Miss Fornell was the equivalent of a timid mouse, Mr. Warwick played the part of a sneaky weasel, tall, lanky, and with a smile that reflected his constant planning. Unlike most of the staff, he insisted on wearing a traditional white lab coat, and was rarely, if ever, seen without it. With a strong, slightly sneery but mostly nasally and eccentric tone, he spoke.

“Miss Fornell, isn’t it? Ah, yes, a pleasure to meet you.” Extending his hand out for a shake, Tiara cautiously reached to grasp it, hesitating.

“W-we’ve um, met several times bef-“

“Have we?! My, then no need for the formalities. That’s such a relief. So sorry though, I’m such a busy fellow, so I suppose you can’t blame me for not remembering someone as plain as you.” Laughing as he took his hand back to his pocket, He leant forward over Tiara, getting down to eye level.

“Now, the reason I’m here is about that mag you just got in. It’s broken, yes? And from what I overheard from your friends there, conspiracy theories are running abroad. See, that interests me far more than any boring scientific discovery, so I’d like to take a look at it and see what I can do to help get it up and running.” Grinning, he patted Tiara on the back, gesturing her back to the lab before she’d even gotten out a response.

“Well well, us scientisty types are awfully busy with our silly little mechanical toys, so you brigands will have to excuse us.” Lester smiled cheerfully, not at all realising that the correct term was ‘Hunters’. He certainly was a strange one. Steadily, they began heading back to Tiara’s station, the FOmarl glancing back over her shoulder at Hal and Ridly.

The disabled... Kylli thought as she shook her head and made her offer to Lance. Only Bec could turn her words of temper into something like an actual insult. She lingered for a moment for Lance's answer and then followed Bec out of the room. There was still a bit of rumbling in the bottom of her stomach, but it was well-suppressed now beneath half-amusement at Bec's always interesting take on life and leaving the person who had started the rumbling far behind. Hopefully, for good, She thought, grim.

Still, the argument had taken a lot out of Kylli, much more so than her and Bec's earlier romp with the little bear creatures. So, she was glad that the Hunter's Guild was rather devoid of people - she didn't want people to accidentally walk into her or try to start conversations. The few people that were around wandered around aimlessly as Kylli followed Bec up to the counter, keeping her head down and lightly fingering her gun while practicing little breathing exercises - just in case.

Normally, the sight of Sienna being lazy and reading a magazine while still on duty would have amused Kylli. At the moment, it just threw another piece of tinder onto the fire. For a moment, she seriously considered giving the girl a piece of her mind, but when Bec coughed loudly, Kylli was recalled to her role. She was the shooter - she was the peacemaker - the cheerful, happy one. Bec was the one who got into confrontations and who couldn't keep her thoughts or her insults to herself.

"Yeah, what is it?" Sienna asked, halfway between snippy and nonchalant. She flipped a page in the magazine, her eyes scanning idly down.

Bec growled.

Kylli glanced at her partner, caught between annoyance at Sienna and extreme amusement at the noise. She covered her mouth and turned away to hide the expression from both girls - not that they were paying her any attention - and worked on controlling all her emotions. When she had finished - when Sienna had gone through her almost precursory look of the mission requirements and took out the pay packets - she was back to the normal Kylli, a very light, very faint smile playing across her face.

She took the check from Sienna with a smiled and an almost mocking bow. "Thank you," She said, echoing the tone that had been used by Bec, before waving to the grumpy girl and turning her back on her. Kylli glanced at the check, wondering if she should buy something for her mag to eat. Looking at the mag, she grinned.

It had been faithfully hovering by her side throughout the entire experience. She gave it a light poke, making it emit a faint cooing noise. "You hungry, little guy?" Again, there was that faint coo noise, though Kylli had no idea what that meant.

Glancing at Bec, Kylli asked, "You think that Tawny's going to have something I can give this thing?" As she spoke, she casually bonked the mag on the top of its shiny body. She had started to walk forward, heading back to the Pit Stop, her mind retracing her steps from earlier. The image in her brain was a bit fuzzy, but once she got out on the main street, her memory pricked, and she followed it back to her employer's shop. Before she walked in, she quickly dusted off her mag and her guns - making sure that they were safely holstered - and then stepped into the shop.

There was a surprising lack of customers, most of the clientele having gone out on hunts of there own. Still, there were quite a few people still in the little bar.

With a cheery grin, Kylli strode over to the counter, "Tawny ~ We're back. We got your meat."

Lance eyed Kylli as she disappeared, and then was too caught up in his own thoughts to even bother noticing Ridly leave. He strode over to Sienna, casually dropping her a 'Mission Accomplished' as he waltzed past her seat. He'd meet Kylli at the Pit Stop later, but right now he had more important things to do. He quickly swept out of the Hunter's Guild, tracing back the already well known steps to the Deposit Boxes. He strode quickly to the usual Box, 696, and unlocked it. He placed the Data inside and closed the door, relocking it. He'd always laughed at the thought of him changing the 9 around so it became a 6, but he decided to keep quiet, because the people around him would probably think he was crazy if he started laughing randomly. He quickly exited the scene, a slight tinge in his stomach. He set off almost immediately for the Pit Stop, a small grin on his face.

Lance stepped into the Bar, quickly surveying the area and finding Kylli almost as quickly. He would've proceeded over to her faster, but something stopped him. "What if she found out what I'd been doing?....". Lance lowered his eyes as if he hadn't seen her yet, and quickly moved over to a vacant Booth, a sigh escaping his lips. He was loyal to R, even though he'd vowed to never go illegitimate, but he didn't have much choice, and besides, R gave him an excuse to fulfill his sadistic desires, and there were many. Lance knew that if anybody caught on to him or R, or found out what was going on, he would kill them, or at least keep their mouth shut. Lance sighed again, taking another look at the Car R had given him, and he closed his eyes, thinking about what could happen.

~Kylli & Lance ~

Bec followed along with Kylli, making light conversation as they trekked back towards the Pit Stop, fanning her face with the cheque.

“Ugh, can you believe that girl? Here we are, busting our arses off and she gets to sit on her butt all day and act snippy. Sometimes I think I’m in the wrong business, but it comes with perks I guess. Great excuse to pound out the frustrations…” Rolling her arms and shoulders to stretch, Bec looked to her partner, before dryly half lidding her eyes. Kylli didn’t seem to entirely pay attention, fretting over her little mag, before asking the HUnewearl about food.

“I guess. The old man’s got plenty of junk around out back, and seeing as we’re done early, I can’t imagine he’d turn down your request for a bonus.” Bec replied as the two wandered into the bar, looking around the customers before turning to Tawny. Seemed Kylli was as eager as always, running up to the bartender with that goofy grin.

“Back already, eh?” The boss raised an eyebrow, looking to the box Bec placed down in front of him, the HUnewearl standing on tippy-toe as she leant over the cool box.

“Yeah, definitely waaay faster with the kid. She’s a keeper.” Bec winked, smiling as Tawny nodded.

“Sounds like ya’ve got the seal of ‘pproval. Yer part’ve the family now.” Tawny chuckled a bit, before yelling over his shoulder. “’Ey, Justin! Git out here ya slacker!”

The sound of clattering and crashing filled the storeroom out back, before a somewhat scrawny teenage boy stumbled out, shaking his foot to remove a bucket and pushing a broom off his head. On closer inspection, he looked to be in his late teens, though still a little on the younger side. His thin frame, was actually a bit more athletic then initially visible, hidden mostly by the baggy shirt and jeans he wore. Taking a breather, he paused before stepping up to the three as Bec snidely commented across the bar.

“Finally recover from that bout of constipation, bucko?” The HUnewearl’s tone was teasing, but her intent to embarrass the boy in front of Kylli was clear. His face flushed a bit red, but it seemed he was quite used to Bec’s attitude as he responded.

“Y-yeah, I did. You should see my doctor too. I think it’d do you wonders…” Trailing off at the end, as he scratched the back of his head, he jumped as Bec slammed a hand down on the bench.

“And what exactly is that supposed to mean?” Her look adopting a bit of malevolence, it was clear by the icy tone that Justin should tread carefully. The boy glanced to the side, mumbling under his breath in somewhat bitter annoyance. “Well maybe you’d stop being so crabby if you just-YEOOW! OW Ow! Stop It!”

Bec was quick to pounce after fuming a bit, leaping partially over the bar to grab Justin by the cheeks, pinching them hard and tugging them outwards while the boy got a palm in her face, attempting to shove her off as they got into a small fight. If it wasn’t for the fact that Justin was human, one could almost swear he was Bec’s younger brother.

“What was that you little brat?! I couldn’t hear it over how stupid you are!”

“I said you’ve got a stick up your butt and need to get it out!”

Tawny sighed, shaking his head and holding his brow before grabbing Bec by her twin-tails, dragging her off of Justin.

“You wanted your food, right? It’s in the kitchen.” Bec winced, tugging her hair free as she hmmphed, Justin laughing at her all the while. Shooting daggers across the room with her eyes, the HUnewearl stormed off with another loud huff, heading through the doors behind the counter.

“And you, get this stuff unpacked an’ ‘ung, alright?” Chucking the box of meat to Justin, the boy struggled under it’s weight a moment before turning to take it through the doors. Stopping a moment, he turned back to face them, looking to the red-haired ranger as recognition clicked in his eyes.

“O-oh, sorry about that. You must be Kylli, right? I’m Justin, the kitchen hand around here.” Extending his hand out to shake with her, Justin quickly recalled it as he nearly dropped the box, giving a weak smile. “It’ll be nice having someone else to work with around here. B-but uh, I better go and take these out back.” Chuckling a little as he noted Tawny watching him, the boy slunk off out the back.

Turning back to Kylli, Tawny spoke, washing out another glass. “So, think ya’ll be able to handle them?” He grinned, a somewhat humoured expression on his face.

~Everyone ~

Around the Vanguard, lights had dimmed a little, a chime sounding amongst the plaza to inform people that it was now considered the evening, the orbit around the planet making it an essential reminder. At the Pit Stop, a few finished hunters, would be arriving, along with a few of the official around the ship for some R&R, only a few odds and ends stores and locations remaining open, such as the Hunter’s guild. There probably wouldn’t be any more missions until morning…
