A 16-year-old navigator in training onboard the Pioneer IV, Vaivene is exceedingly determined to become either Head Pilot or Co-Pilot. Slightly insane and completely impulsive, a certain lively craze always gleams in her eyes.
Anyone who meets Vaivene instantly knows she is wild and uncontainable, though very serious when it comes to her career as a navigator. If you don't hate her, you love her. And if you don't love her, you hate her. There really is no medium, and that's the way she likes it. Completely confident and independent, Vaivene knows what she wants and how to get it. Once she sets her mind to something there's no turning back. There are only extremes for her, black and white, right or left; that's how she views everything. In the presence of others she is always happy and eccentric, though often--when left alone too long--she finds herself connecting with the hurt she so often ignores and comes crashing down. She never ever cries in front of others, and is always right. And when she's not, she'll find a way to be.
Vaivene has access to most of the navigating equipment on the ship, though is unauthorized at her ranking to use any of it without supervision or permission from a mentor.
Vaivene grew up the fourth child out of five in a smaller town in the midwest United States. As a child, she never had much attention. Her three older brothers were exceptionally talented and athletic and charming, and she didn't fit the family mold. Her parents were always "so proud of their boys!" that she found herself stuggling to be noticed among the bunch. When she was very young, she was actually quite shy--though if she were to tell anyone that to anyone who knew her in the present, they wouldn't believe her. Even her younger brother, the baby of the family, grew into the same mold her older brothers fit. She felt forlorn; alone. She began to seek out attention outside of home, breaking herself of her timid nature. Soon she found that others found her humorous and interesting. The more daring and wild she was, the more people noticed. And yet, the less she cared what they thought of her! She felt free. The only thing that bothered her about her life was her family. They didn't understand her, and they didn't try to. Inside, the only thing missing was the sense that her parents were proud of her. When the Pioneer Program arose, Vaivene found her chance to make them notice her; to make them proud. Determined to do whatever it took to grab their attention, she sought after making the top 300. Her ambition consumed her, and being known for her tenacity, this came as no surprise to her friends. Her success in the program did indeed make her parents proud, but it simply didn't bring the satisfaction and completion to her life that she thought it would. There was still a gaping whole in her heart, and onboard the Pioneer IV she plans to fill it. Somehow, someway. She would. Head Pilot? Oh, she dared.
