The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 3 authors
"Erika!" Inaga called, waving over to the young captain. "Are you ready?"
"You're late."
"Tsk, you're cold," Inaga grinned, leading her towards a small cluster of tents. "They're right over here. Not many to start with, but it's a start."
"What the..." she mumbled in shivering voice.
"Wakey wakey, my apprentice!" a middle-aged, well-dressed man holding an empty wet bucket yelled cheerfully.
Audrey was about to ask a question when she let out a grunt once a suitcase was thrown at her lap. Two smaller ones landed near her bed.
"We're moving, Audrey!" the man announced. "Come on! Get up! Don't look at me like you're trying to solve a math problem! Just when I thought you finally stopped doing this after all those years! Change your clothes first. You're all wet! And you can't go out on a new adventure dressed with this horrible nightgown!" he said and went out of the room.
Soon after, Audrey entered an empty room.
"What... happened to the shop?" she asked in disbelief.
"Don't you even listen? We're moving!" the man grabbed her shoulders.
"But... Where are the weapons?"
"They're not here!"
A moment of silence filled the room.
"Have we bankr..." Audrey started, before the man's large, ring covered hand silenced her mouth.
"We're just in a hard period, my apprentice! The store here is no more, but we'll find something!" he said, released her mouth and wrapped his arm around the shoulder, while moving his other one like he's pointing the environment. "Great future awaits us! Our nights will be spent on the steets, but we'll have plenty of options! We can become slaves, then rob our owners and run away! We can become performers! We can try our a profession every single day! We can rob another shop! What do you say?"
"I... I can't do this..." Audrey mumbled.
"What?" her boss raised a brow.
"I-I'm sorry." the girl simply said and released herself from his grip. "I c-can't." she walked out of the empty shop.
The man opened the door after her.
"So you're leaving me? You ungrateful brat! Who kept you under his wing in the last five years? Me!"
Those words caused Audrey to stop walking for a second and sight.
"Goodbye." she spoke without turning and continued walking.
"Ugh..." the girl covered her face with both of her hands.
"Alright, let's just find a home and a job..." she thought to herself. "My experience is with weapons... and... selling... that's all."
Erika sighed, tilting her head. "They know each other, what's the story?"
"Ah, well. That's a good question," she glared at him, waiting for an answer as Inaga nervously ran a hand through his hair. "Oh, that ain't my problem! Ask them yourself!"
"Did this man just offer me a job out of nowhere? A job at a ship?" she thought and looked around. She didn't know where the old crew members were, nor how did they look like, or if there were any.
For a second it crossed Audrey's thought that this might be a weird smuggling tactic. Fortunately for her, there was nothing to be smuggled. Then she relized - there was nothing to be smuggled! She left her entire luggage at the shop. Audrey sighed and placed her hand on her forehead.
It also crossed her mind that it might be a strange tactic for kidnapping. Then why wasn't she kidnapped already?
"Apparently I need to learn so much more about the real world," she thought. "Whatever his intentions are, even if there's a trap, or a catch, I'll just submit. Otherwise I might be on the streets for quite a while. I have nothing to lose."
"Lead to the ship you're trying to reach," she finally spoke to the stranger in a rather quiet voice, even by her own standards.
Whoever he was, it was clear he was good leading material. However, he was quickly loosing the crew. Stepping forwards, she placed a hand on his shoulder. "That's all fine, lad," she murmured with a smiled. "Now to the rest of you. I know a female captain ain't your first choice, but I promise I can make rich men of al of you. So, the first order of business, the ship." At this, Erika grinned. "Her name's the Bloody Revenge and you'll find her docked by the harbourmaster."
"Such a scene gets me every time." she thought. "I hope I didn't make a mistake. Well, I'm taking a risk whatever I do, so..."
A little later the captain of the ship spoke. Despite not hearing of it often, Audrey easily took the fact that she's a female. The thing that concerned her more was...
"How old is she?" Audrey thought.
Then she finally thought about her place on the ship. What would her job be like? A mopper? Someone's mate?
"Wait... I've been working in a weapon shop for five years... Alright... we'll see. Get yourself together. You can handle it."
It was enough of a problem the fact that she forgot everything, or the reason she did it, or the fact her belongings were in a situation where she could forget them. What if it was also a problem in her employment? On the other side, she might get help, along with the man who introduced himself as Mr. Mercer. He seemed to be a street smart person, so perhaps she would leave most of the talking to him. Audry unwittingly looked at the guy, but then she quickly, yet subtly moved her sight elsewhere.
"Come on. Don't make it blatant that you prefer to leave the social work to someone else, whom you even met no more than several minutes ago." the girl thought to herself. "Keep your ears pointed on moments where you have to say something."
She would be glad to have a job and not sleep on the streets. However, the young captain had a point. What was Audry getting herself into? What should she expect to happen? She considered that she might not be doing a right choice, however once again, it was better than nothing.
"This is where you introduce yourself!" Audrey thought after an awkward pause.
"Audrey Connor at your service." she quickly raised her arm for a handshake. "I have experience with sales and weapon maintaince."
"I'd still join." Audry replied.
