Benyamin Ancariis

"Well, now we have the artifact, time to preserve it!"

0 · 167 views · located in Nassau

a character in “Pirates: By Blood or By Gold”, as played by ZacharyTC

Description

Name: Benyamin Ancariis

Age: Unknown, though he appears to be in his late teens or early twenties. (He is an angel sent down from Heaven to collect ancient artifacts and preserve them (and to work on controlling his emotions a little more))

Appearance: Benyamin has a tan complexion with few, if any, blemishes. His brown eyes express a mix of gentleness and a firm resolve to get things done. Ben's typical attire consists of modest attire, including brown pants, a white shirt his buttons up, and a khaki jacket meant for practicality. He sometimes wears a pirate-like hat (mainly to keep the sun out of his eyes). This rather down-to-earth outfit (which he has more of) allows him to blend in with the crowd and avoid attention. His smile is one of those smiles that can charm a lady's socks off, and before he knows it, one of them might be watching him. At least, all this describes him in human form; his true form is unknown (you will never see it in the story, either).

Build: Ben has a slender, yet athletic physique, his muscles modestly large. This belies his actual strength and endurance, however, capable of taking a heavy blow and still managing to stand. Despite this, he does have his limits. On top of that, this strength enables him to use his flexibility to its largest potential, making for a deadly dance in melee.

Personality: Benyamin Ancariis is what people would call a "gentle pirate", preferring not to fight if he can help it. In this regard, he is typically a pacifist whom wants to conquer obstacles with his brain more than his muscle. Tick him off, however, and you got one heck of an angel with a wrath unleashed to fend off with your sword or gun (which is not easy to do in the slightest, because he would not be holding back). That aside, Benyamin is an intelligent angel, capable of solving riddles and figuring out puzzles, a handy skill to have when trying to get away without spilling blood. Ben is known across the globe for his fascination with history, wishing to unlock answers to mysteries from back when humanity was young. He has also been noted to seem a bit asexual, mainly because he does not desire to settle down with someone he knows will just die on him as he continue to live indefinitely (indefinitely because he is immortal to a degree, with some things capable of killing him).

Despite his earthly profession as a pirate, he treats his crew members like family, not once threatening them with death. He will go so far as to risk his own life to keep his crew out of harm's way, a trait that can be exploited. Some of the things that anger him easily are the strong harming the weak, animal abuse, domestic abuse, pretty much any sadistic or malicious behavior towards anyone that is vulnerable or innocent. Benyamin is very much an angel of justice, thus he has earned the widely-known nickname "Angelic Thief" the people using that nickname for him never realizing he honestly is an angel.

Where they live: Nassau mostly, but has been known to travel around in search of ancient items, including documents and tablets.

What/ who they are: An angel sent down from Heaven in search of ancient artifacts to preserve, thus has taken to being a pirate and thief for that reason. His crew mainly consists of Fae, merfolk, Nephilim (angel-human hybrids), and orphaned humans he took in and granted extended lifespans so to live longer, even though he knows the human crewmates cannot live forever.

History:

Skills: As an angel, he can give blessings to people depending on what they need at the time, even though he cannot by any means make somebody rich or immortal due to limitations on what angels can give people, one of them being not to grant everything a person desires. He can also prolong somebody's life with a hand touching them and a chant that is in a language unknown to mortal people. Rumor has it he is capable of removing otherwise incurable ailments, however he cannot do this on a constant basis without having to recuperate from the exhaustion it brings. Benyamin can also use protection powers to keep himself and others at harm, but not all the time as that would tire him out more quickly than nonstop combat alone. Because of his previous experience fighting malicious demons (not every demon in this world means any harm) and other supernatural being that meant to bring chaos and malice upon mortal-kind, his swordsmanship and gun slinging is superb, as well as a sort of smiting power known as the Fires of Heaven, the divine variant of fire powers. It is geared towards defeating individuals with massive amounts of any of the seven deadly sins within their hearts, meaning the Fires of Heaven can do little against relatively guiltless people (it would still hurt). Benyamin is a master of the Fires of Heaven to his body and weapons, capable of applying it into his melee and ranged fighting styles.

Of course, with how skillful he is at combat, he has a few weaknesses. Benyamin often fights using adaptability and improvisation due to planning his adventures with combat as a last resort only, meaning with the correct strategy planned out ahead of time, he could meet his demise. Typically, he has mostly combat with demons and other supernatural beings in mind, so he could be taken off guard if a human surprise attacks him. Like with any individual, a whole group attacking simultaneously would have a bigger advantage against him instead of each member of the group attacking individually (Benyamin can only use his Heavenly Fires against three intended targets at a time, mostly). His above mentioned powers have flaws pointed out which can be exploited. The more frequent his use of his powers, the quicker he tires out, which means forcing him to use those powers so much will work to your advantage.

Fighting aside, he can use his brains to figure out puzzles, riddles, work around traps, and pretty much pick any lock he sees (he is mainly after artifacts, so he uses his skills to that end). He can also beat most people at a game of checkers, which helps when gambling (which he does not do often; he is more of a responsible gambler). Sometimes, he will come up with games in his head to try out in order to get his way. There is also his silver tongue, which he can use to convince people to do what he wants, from charming a woman into helping him find somebody who would know about an artifact, to intimidating a marked man into handing over something he needs to continue with his objectives.

Other: His main weapons of choice are his heavenly weapons forged by his angelic friends before he was sent on his journey, which he collectively calls the Enforcer set. The Enforcer Saber looks like an ordinary pirate sword, except it is exceptionally more durable than any sword made by mortals and is much slower to melt if under extremely hot conditions. This same sword can also be thrown boomerang style to take down multiple targets (unless blocked or grabbed) before it returns to his hands. With the Heavenly Fires applied, an opponent's sword can get hot enough to burn his/her hands (Ben rarely applies this ability to the Enforcer Saber, considering it a bit sadistic). The Enforcer Pistols are dual pistols that are as durable as the Enforcer Saber, and can apply the Fires of Heaven to deliver individual blasts that can leave an opponent hit fried crispy before they can feel much pain (refer to the main drawback of the Heavenly Fires). Last, but not least, is the Enforcer Rifle works pretty much the same way in regards to applying the Heavenly Fires.

So begins...

Benyamin's crew made port in Nassau and brought out their haul of artifacts to study and preserve, carried in crates. It was a typical day at home, the locals going about their day, paying little attention to the men blending in with the crowd. As soon as they made it to their hidden stronghold underground, the crew of Benyamin Ancariis unloaded the haul, revealing tablets and other ancient items from thousands of years prior. Each was placed carefully within an area of the "museum", as the captain loved to call it, making sure not to damage anything. Soon enough, there was the usual cleaning and dusting to keep all the artifacts in as good shape as possible. Repairs were made when necessary, and everything was inspected to find out as much about them as possible.

So far, Benyamin has studied documents, statues, figurines, weapons, even pieces of war machinery. Every examination revealed something new to him, which is something he enjoyed to the fullest. "Nice work, boys! A job well done! Look at how big this museum is! An entire wealth of knowledge can be uncovered, here! To celebrate our progress, why don't we all head to the bar in town above and get us a few tables?"

Nobody objected to that, and soon they made their way to the pub where they managed to get seven tables, some crewmates purchasing beer, others some wine. Benyamin himself bought a sparkling wine with a sweet taste to it. There were the typical antics of others, which the drew did its best to ignore as they plotted their next journey. Benyamin, of course, knew the best source for where to search for ancient artifacts was a certain fae with a Velilian accent, by the name of Alexandrine. He scanned the place for her until she spotted her conversing with a peculiar man he thought he read abut with deities giving him grief. It was a pity how the former priest ended up the way he did, yet there was little he could do for him.

It would have been rude to interrupt Alexandrine in the middle of her conversation, so he waited until she was away from him to approach. "Afternoon, ma'am."

"Alexandrine."

"Theodosos," he replied, raising his half-empty pint in a salute. He heard the door open and his spine tingled. The female who entered with whom he assumed to be her bodyguard or subordinate felt powerful. He raised an eyebrow. It wasn't everyday that someone set off his senses like this.

"What powerful person has dz'eir hand up your ass?"

Theo couldn't help but laugh at her comment. He regarded her semi-seriously with a playful smile on his face, "Hmm... Well, those would be three powerful persons. Gods, actually. Bellona, goddess of war, Mardu, god of magic and wisdom, and Lila, goddess of love. It was Lila that orchestrated the whole thing. I caught her eye, I turned her down, she cast a spell on Bellona, I was raped, blamed for it by Mardu and I am cursed now. "May your blade fail when you need it the most, may your wisdom fail you, may those around you suffer." That sort of thing. So, I left home. Gods of Drake are not as powerful so far from Drake. Except Lila. Love is universal. She has decided to make me her own personal plaything."

As he finished speaking, he almost jumped out of his seat. It was one thing to feel the prescence of another magic user. This felt much stronger. His eyes fell on a pleasant-looking man who greeted Alexandrine. Yet again, he raised an eyebrow.

"Friend of yours?"

Benyamin realized immediately Alexandrine is was not the fae he was seeking. In fact, a closer inspection revealed her to be human. He then remembered that it was Aja he should have talked to. "Oh! Sorry! Wrong person! Although, I guess it's rude not to say who I am before going since you asked. My name is Benyamin Ancariis." He then jerked his head sideways because he and his brother were well known among both angels and humans. "Yes, Adir is my brother, a hotheaded one, at that. People often call me the Angelic Pirate because, well, let's just say I'm not your typical one. Anyway, sorry to have troubled you, ma'am. My memory was mixed up, for a moment. It's been a while since I last made port." He then went back to his table and resumed with his drink.

((I hate that the post is short, but I don't have time, right now, due to needing to head to work. I'll edit this, later.))

He heard a voice behind him, and instantly remembered. Of course, she asked why he refused to seek her, so he shrugged and said simply, "Ah, well, my memory was a bit jumbled, is all, so I tried to recollect some things. My latest adventure took longer than expected. Anyway, I wondered if you knew anything about where I could fine the Shield of Davar, prophetic prime elder of Larshrael. Larshrael was an ancient nation where a council of elders ruled and where my god, Wisdmijuus, god of Justice, Wisdom and Protection, laid down the basic scriptures regarding himself and his teachings for mortals to read. The shield is written to have contained the ability to keep entire armies from dying. Davar used it to keep Larshrael's many enemies from overwhelming his people. In the end, because of Larshrael's eventual corruption from within, the country was conquered, the shield lost to time. The last person to have had knowledge of the shield's whereabouts as far as anyone is aware of was a descendent of Davar named Jeremiaem, the last prophet to have spoken out against his own government and people's corruption before Larshrael was defeated in war and annexed by one of its enemies. It is said he took it with him and hid it somewhere so it could not fall into the wrong hands, enforcing the unknown location with elaborate traps designed to keep intruders out. An army or crew that manages to grab a hold of the shield and harness its powers would be all but invincible, and that I cannot allow. I have searched for it ever since my quest to find artifacts began by heavenly mandate. So far, the clues found only led to a dead end, which can only mean Jeremiaem was highly skilled at covering his tracks during his life, coming up with false indications as to the shield's whereabouts. This adventure I have been waiting to complete for hundreds of years would be my ultimate test in this world. Everyone else whom has looked for it died before they could come close. There has to be a reason, besides how well hidden the shield obviously is."

Fae were a beautiful race, he admitted, yet he wondered if a fae would be right for him. Sure, they were incapable of lying, and they were immortal, yet there were some things he would have to think about before deciding. For now, he would just focus on his heavenly duty.

((notice the Judaic references. Sorry, I couldn't resist! Do you stuff, Kai!))

Adir just came back from a raid on a pirate ship which harbored demons on board their ship. All opponent onboard were killed, including his intended targets. Everytime Adir walked the streets of Nassau, people would whisper softly about rumors concerning him and wonder if he truly was an angel due to his alleged prowess. Only Adir and his brother, Benyamin, knew that answer, and it was yes. On his way to the library, he purchased some tea to clear his head and benefit from the herbs used to brew it. The tea he drank while walking down the streets. At the library, he read a book involving one of his most hated enemies, Cassius the Incubus. Ever since the angel's quest to slay all demons he could find, it was Cassius whom evaded him the most. Everytime Adir would come close to victory against him, Cassius had some trick up his sleeve to escape. This was no ordinary incubus, either: he was infamous in the supernatural world for defeating many demon slayers, most of them being angels. This simple fact made Adir want to kill him even more. Upon completing the book, he found only one clue as to where Cassius goes off to, it was a place where tea leaves were common currency. Adir realized the supplier of much of the tea in Nassua was one of the more infamous ladies in town, Lady Harlington.

Adir counted up how much coin he gained from his adventures, seeing he had more than enough for her prices. He sprinted the whole way to the gate of her estate, then waited for her carriage to arrive. He also thought of what to say.

Benyamin thought long and hard about what Aja said. He speedily came to the conclusion Jeremiaem was merely an alias. Considering the name does not appear on any tablets or scrolls from his time, it must have been his alter ego, so to avoid attention when living out his life away from prophesying. Also, he always covered his eyes with bandages and wore a mask cloth over his mouth. Both were fairly modest, like the rest of his attire, meaning he could easily blend in with the crowd. His cap covered most of his hair (This is not to be confused with a baseball cap.)

Recalling the different relics in his "museum", four Larshraelite artifacts came to mind, three written documents, one staff: the Annals of the Larhsraelite Council of Elders, the Journal of the Last General, the Priest's Son's Book, and the Staff of Larshrael. All four items were linked to the Council of Elders, be it directly or indirectly. The Annals record, among other things, the offspring of elders and prime elders which headed the former. One entry came to mind: Deborasi, the first female Prime Elder, was recorded to have had four daughters and three sons, the sons having been known to disappear at perceivably random times before coming back in the house. Except, none of them are recorded in the Annals to be Jeremiaem, whom lived during that time frame. He must have been one of the three sons. That was deduction number one.

The Journal of the Last General tells of how Jeremiaem was of a medium height and average weight and fitness (which was still very much fit) among the Larshraelites, which added to the ability to blend in with the crowd, but also notes a strange thing about the prophet nobody else was able to. The voice of Jeremiaem had similarities to two people he helped raised while Deborasi was away on military campaigns to defend Larshrael. Judkarsh and Solomirka fit the description very closely without referring to the face. Deduction number two.

The Priest's Son's Book describes the friendship between himself and the three sons of Deborasi, including all the mischief they would get into. Of interest at the moment was the part where the Priest's Son went on to explain the odd behaviors concerning Judkarsh and how he would suddenly speak more symbolically and seriously, his eyes not looking at anything in particular. The journal also mentioned the incident always followed by Judkarsh running off without saying another word. The third and final deduction was in place to determine who Jeremiaem truly was.

There was only one problem, however: where did Judkarsh head off to after Larshrael's fall? He would have had to have been somewhere few individuals would bother to look, for whatever reason it was. He would not have hid the shield in or anywhere near a town or city, however. That would have been too easy. Besides, considering it was said there were elaborate traps in store, the location would have had to have been largely remote so to have had time to build them while keeping the watchful eye of the enemy away from himself. Traps often required stone or wood, which Judkarsh was excellent in using both materials. From that, Benyamin was able to determine that Judkarsh either went to the highly dangerous Weskri Forest, the arid Sinaat Desert, or the largely-untouched Zukron Mountains. The Staff would be of help in evading traps once there, as well as in finding more clues.

After he had thought all that out in his head, he looked up at Aja and said to her, "I think I have an idea where to go from here, now. Thanks, Aja." His smile while speaking was an innocent one without any hidden meanings. It was his typical that was friendly to people when there was no action.

((Ehe... Adir has no horse, Zeph. He sprinted the whole way to the gate. Just a tiny example of his endurance ^^; ))

Adir finally saw the carriage arrive. It was night time, by then. He waited the whole time. During the wait, he figured out what to say. Unphased by Elizabeth's ominous query, he bowed his head with his fist at his chest, "I am Adir Ancariis, one of two of the rumored Ancariis Brothers. I am not sure if you have heard of my demon-slaying adventures, but there is some truth to what they say. I have come here on a matter of business. You see, my most hated foe, Cassius the Incubus, frequently disappears whenever I have the upper hand, and reading more on him indicates that where he disappears is to a place where tea leaves are currency. As such, I have come to purchase a bag of them to use on my journey. I have the needed coins with me. Should it be necessary, I can do manual labor to pay off whatever is leftover of the price."

Benyamin was back on his ship with his crew, preparing for the journey to Larshrael, where he would retrace the steps now that he knows the true identity of Jeremiaem. The map he drew in detail included the new information he had acquired from his conversation with Aja and his thoughts resulting from it. From Larshrael, there were three possible places where the Shield of Davar could have been hidden. If none of those places had the real shield, Benyamin reasoned, then they may at least hold even more clues as to the shield's whereabouts. I certainly hope Adir is not causing trouble. He has a knack for that, being the hothead he is. Still, he ahs managed to stay alive, so far, and all of the trouble in Nassau he caused has been minor and not worth noting. He needs to keep it that way.
