Willow listened in as Captain William responded to Elric's demands. The Captain kept such a level headed demeanor, it was difficult to tell that Elric had irritated him in the first place. He obviously had no care that Elric was of noble blood, and his deft handling of the situation impressed her. She waited until he finished, directing Elric over to the first officer to enlist. He then turned back to Willow, and for a moment she feared he'd deal her the same speech that he had with Elric, but these fears disappeared when a warm smile crept onto his face again.

"Again Miss Witmoore, welcome aboard. For the duration of your time with us you will be treated as, and receive the same privileges of, one of the ships officers and I am sure will be more than welcome to dine with them. Unfortunately I do not feel I can give you the use of my cabin for this voyage and I apologize for that. However I am more than certain Mr. Thomas would be willing to let you use his."
Mr. Thomas nodded in agreement. "It would be my pleasure, Miss."
Willow nodded and smiled at Elric, half sympathetic, and half mocking.

"With that settled, if you would please follow me I would like to discuss with you the nature of your assignment and if you have any suggestions of what course to pursue." the captain finished, holding the door to his cabin for her, the ship's navigator was inside, going over various maps and charts. She entered the room with William in tow. Before either of the two officers could say a word, Willow began her speech, though it was rather improvised, and she hoped she wouldn't mess up.

"Let's not waste any time shall we?" she began, "The criminals, as much as we'd like to think they are brainless thugs, are obviously pretty smart. They've captured the princess, with what appeared to be minimal losses, and most likely have her aboard their ship. We can assume the haven't killed her, because they would have done it in her room, and whatever else they plan to do with her doesn't really matter. We know they'll essentially be forced to go one way. Nobody would be stupid enough to sail for mainland Europe, the royal navy probably has blockaded every port, and south isn't an option, the navy would have blockaded the whole channel. That leaves North. They'll also most likely want to sail for low population areas, where royal authority is low, which points to the Americas. Given the increasing amount of soldiers the king is stationing in the colonies, I place their final destination in the Spanish and Portuguese ports in South America. Now, as your navigator knows, we have both the wind and the distance on our side in getting to South America, so I suggest that is where we go. Havana is the key to all of South America, all ships make port there if they wish to continue on to the rest of the continent. If we can anchor off the coast, we can catch every ship heading in and out. Not to mention, if I'm wrong, they walk right into the royal army in the colonies, and your job is done for you. I'd stake my entire career on this plan, captain. In fact, I am."

Allyson did not even flinch at the mention of the princesses family. "I lost my actual family quite young, so I would not know honestly." She said, unknowingly confirming the princess's thoughts. She had been alright with being an orphan for quite a while, it honestly did not bother her. She then grinned. "Here we are, the doctors quarters" She said matter of factly, indicating that the princess should go in first. "Don't worry, she is very nice." *Almost too nice for her own good.* Allyson thought ironically, still. Tiesa was another one of the few people on the ship she really liked.

Allyson briefly entertained the notion of looking at Hermione's pockets. *Hrmm, I doubt she would catch me. But if she did.. hrmph, I suppose it would be wiser for me to not steal anything from her. Tis unlikely that she has anything with her at the moment anyway considering she was kidnapped.* She thought quickly. "You know what, I think I'll wait out here if you don't mind." She said grinning at Hermione. The doctor would probably be able to get Hermione to open up a bit, maybe. But Allyson doubted her own presence would help too much.

William listened to Miss Whitmoore's suggestion carefully, his face once again turning to a frown, though not an unpleasant one. It was the frown of a man giving careful thought towards a problem. The Captain did his best to listen to the suggestions that all of his crew members brought up, they had a different view on the problems faced by the ship and it's company and such were able to think of solutions that would have completely eluded him.

"What the lady says makes sense, sir." Mr. Jones stated simply and William nodded his head in agreement. His plan had been to try and confront the criminals as soon as possible, but the chances of intercepting them as they exited the North Sea were slim to none. Some of the Navy's fastest ships were undoubtedly on there way to inform all forces throughout the Empire to be on the alert. Indeed with the crown tightening its control in the colonies, it would almost be suicide to go there. Most of South America was under the control of foreign powers, making them much safer, and despite the Royal Navy's efforts the Caribbean still remained somewhat of a safe haven for pirates and that sort of folk.

"Alright then. We sail for Havana. Mr. Jones, please inform Mr. Thomas that we are to sail immediately and then get me a course."

"Yes Sir." Jones replied with a quick salute, gathering up his charts and quickly leaving the cabin. Soon the shouts could be heard coming from the deck along with the stamping of feet as the crew cast off and set the rigging. Soon the ship began to rock steadily as it made it's way out of the channel.

Captain Williams sat down in the chair behind his desk, indicating to Miss Whitmoore to take the one opposite of him. "Now that we are underway, would you be willing to explain me what exactly is the purpose of you joining us and what exactly the Admiralty has planned. for you to do.

=======================================

Horace Thomas continued to meet the gaze of this noble whelp, though not quite as steadily as his captain had. Still, is anger towards this man and the arrogance the man to come aboard this this and presume to tell its captain what what to do certainly did help. "Sir, I don't give a damn about your thoughts or your eyes. This ship is about to leave on a very important mission, and your presence is delaying that departure. The Captain has given you an option about to join us, which is what you seem to want to do. Now you can either accept his offer or you can leave this ship now." At that point Mr. Jones, the navigator, hurried out of the Captain's cabin and made straight towards him.

"The Captain says we are to set sail immediately." He looked like he wanted to say more, but the presence of this Rolance fellow made him decide not to. Horace gave him a quick nod before turning his attention to where he knew the boatswain. "Mr. Goodchild, tell the men to cast off! We set sail immediately!" Horace then motioned for some of the marines to approach. "You now have three choices Mr. Rolance. You may sign aboard the ship's company as the captain offered you to do, you can leave the ship peaceably immediately, or these good men here can 'escort' you from the ship. I will say that if you do choose to join the crew I can arrange for your term of service to be only for the duration of this voyage." Mr. Thomas did not mention that if things did not go well with their mission the voyage might end up becoming a circumnavigation that could easily take three or four years. He also paid no attention to threats the man tried to make using his rank. Serving under the leadership of Captain Hamilton could help you lose some of man's reluctance to treat a noble with brusqueness that other men would deserve.

Elric clinched the bridge of his nose, and let out a sigh. "Perhaps I am being too obtuse. Let me try again. I can't sign with the company. I could just sign a fake name, I suppose." He scratched his chin. It could be said that Elric was a little surprised by how the Captain and his First Mate were acting. It almost seemed like they naturally hostile towards those of noble blood. "I'm sorry, but do I have to spell it out for you at this point? I will join the crew, but I can't sign up as a member. Why? Because if I do the King will likely send another ship just to bring me back, and I don't want anyone else interfering-" Elric took a deep breath and rolled his eyes. This is becoming difficult. Maybe if I got out a piece of paper and drew what I was saying he would understand better. Elric was becoming more concerned for Hermoine's safety by the minute. "Sorry, but I am done with pleasantries."

Elric's smile disappeared and his eyes narrowed. The charming and slightly arrogant tone he had been speaking in was gone. It was replaced by an arrogant, ruthless, and methodical tone that revealed the true nature of Rolance. "I accept your Captains offer, but I will not sign up with the ships company. Period. We done? Good. Now that needlessly difficult situation is past us, I should go make myself useful." He turned from Mr. Thomas. "Our conversation is over. Truthfully talking to you has given me a headache. Now, kindly go complain to your Captain about the mean, arrogant noble."

Willow breathed out an exasperated sigh just as she finished her long speech, and William frowned at the end. For a moment, she was worried he'd disagree, and have the ship sail elsewhere. It was only when the navigator spoke up, did she breath again.

"What the lady says makes sense, sir." William nodded to the man and his faced showed some thought in his eyes. "Alright then. We sail for Havana. Mr. Jones, please inform Mr. Thomas that we are to sail immediately and then get me a course."
"Yes sir." The navigator saluted them, gathered his charts and left the room, leaving the captain and Willow alone. In moments, the ship began to pull out of the harbor it's navigator plotting her course right now.

The Captain sat behind his desk, and motioned for Willow to sit opposite him.
"Now that we are underway, would you be willing to explain me what exactly is the purpose of you joining us and what exactly the Admiralty has planned. for you to do."
Willow smiled oddly, and looked at the ceiling. Sighing, she looked back down at the captain and spoke up.

"Captain, I am one of those 'No rules' people, a bounty hunter, as a profession. Some of my 'no rules' activities have had His Majesty's army out to get me for, quite some time now. I was actually to catch a ship to Italy tomorrow, but some of the kings men got to me first. Long story short, they are 'hiring' me to find the kings daughter. Why? 'cause I'm the best at what I do." She paused and took a break...thinking over her words a bit, and resumed.

"They're forcing me to do this, but if I succeed..." her eyes glazed over for a second. She finished up, skipping a bit ahead. "I don't know why they had me assigned to this ship. Maybe they don't want me to succeed. Maybe they think you're really good. Either way, we've got a journey ahead of us."

Her long speech finished, she sat back and breathed out. She eyed out the window, her eyes scanning for Elric.

Horace looked at Elric with an expression of mixed anger and astonishment. If most nobles were like this then he was very grateful he had chosen a life at sea and had not stayed in the life of high society. "Are you completely daft man. How the bloody hell is the King supposed to know you are on this ship unless you were stupid enough to tell him. This ship also represents the best chance at rescuing Her Majesty, and I highly doubt the King would delay her sailing just because you are aboard, no matter how important you are."

Horace was now meet the man's eyes with a fiery glare, one that made the crew step very carefully when they saw it. "A man cannot be a part of the crew unless he has been signed on. And since we have finished with the pleasantries." The Spiteful's first officer swung his gaze to the two waiting marines, causing both to them to flinch. "Get this man off the ship immediately," He snapped, turning his back to all three.

"But sir..." One of the man started. The man stumbled over his words as that glare swung back to him. "I mean... Sir? The ships already cast off."

Horace looked around. Indeed it they had cast off. The distance between the dock and the deck was slowly increasing, meaning that the only feasible way to remove Elric from the ship would be to throw him overboard. And while that was sorely tempting, he decided that it would be best not to. "Fine. Then you will detain Mr. Rolance below decks until further notice. He is only to be given a ration of bread and water twice daily until myself or the captain orders otherwise." This time Mr. Thomas held is ground, watching as the two marines approached Elric, grabbing his arms and preparing to haul him to one of the small prison cells below.

======================================

William smiled kindly at Miss Whitmoore as she explained to him her circumstances. "Unfortunately I am as much in the dark about why they assigned you to my ship as you are. I imagine that it has to do with the fact that we were already planning on leaving port this day. My orders were to circumnavigate the globe, but with the recent crisis my ship and crew likely represented the fastest means of response. And if you are as good at your job as you say I imagine that it made sense to them to have you leave with the first available ship."

With Miss Whitmoore not taking the offered seat William felt slightly uncomfortable, he always did when sitting in the presence of a lady, but he decided it would be best to remain seated. It would give him a look and sense of authority, it would be know could to show anything that could be interpreted as weakness with such a new crew and an unknown factor like this bounty hunter. "While I can certainly understand the benefits of being a 'no rules' person with a profession such as your own, I will have to ask you to follow my orders. You will have some leeway due to your unique situation, but I do not tolerate insubordination under those in my command. You are free and welcome to ask questions and make suggestions, but when I give a direct order I must ask that you follow it, for your own benefit as well as for the benefit of the ship, crew and our mission. I will also remind you that my orders, duty, and honor require me to do everything in my power to bring the Princess back safely and I will appropriately deal with any who may try to stop me." Normally William would not have added that last bit, but with her nature of being a mercenary and bounty hunter he felt that it would be best if he did so. Beneath him he could feel the ship moving and slowly picking up speed as she left port and made her way out onto the open ocean. "Now, are there any question or concerns that I might be able to address at this time?"

Literally, is it that hard to comprehend? I sign up with the company, we go chase the Pirates. I die, and the King blames it on the crew. My father will likely have their heads, and make sure their families pay as well. Even if I don't die, my disappearance will likely cause my father using all his resources to find me. Then comes the search party. Of course if I say all this, it will likely go way over his head. Damn soldiers. Doesn't matter now, I was able to rile him up enough to were he lost sense of his surroundings. Elric simply smiled at the man, finding a rather inadvertent joy in watching the man consider his options. Elric patiently listened to Mr. Thomas, finding the tone of the man's voice to be like nails on a board. When Elric felt the hands of the marines grabbing his arms, he became expressionless, looking down at their hands. Elric sighed heavily, and looked at Mr. Thomas. "Now we have a problem. Mr. Thomas, I can see that this entire incident has broken down. You seem to have painted me as a weak, arrogant, worthless man who tries to use his title to get what he wants. Here's the problem. I hate facades. So even though it would benefit me better to simply comply, I hate facades." In one move, Elric brought his elbow up and bashed it into the jaw of the marine on his right. He kicked the marine in the stomach and brought his arm around the marine on his left, using him as a human shield of sorts.

The crewman on the deck all drew their arms, having them focused right on Elric. Elric smiled while the marine he was holding gasped for breath, looking at the first mate. "You see why I said simply complying would benefit me more. Now you could open fire on your man and I, throw me overboard and be rid of me completely. The fact I risked all this for a simple showing of disrespect is rather idiotic when you think about it. But, its who I am-" Using his free left hand, Elric removed his silver pistol from its holster and pointed it at the head of the marine. "-And I hate facades."

Willow stood still. She was listening to the captain's words.

"While I can certainly understand the benefits of being a 'no rules' person with a profession such as your own, I will have to ask you to follow my orders. You will have some leeway due to your unique situation, but I do not tolerate insubordination under those in my command. The last part he added sounded more like a warning than she originally took it, but she got the message. The captain was not a man to be angered, and she respected that in a person. In fact, William reminded her a lot of her uncle, what she remembered of him. She almost got lost in her thoughts.

"Now, are there any question or concerns that I might be able to address at this time?"

She thought for a moment, and then opened her mouth to speak, when they were interrupted by a rumble outside, and some shouting. She dropped her thought and dashed to the door, making the move across the room in about two steps. She used her body and momentum to push the door open. Her experience in the navy and with combat certainly showed there, not losing her balance on the wavy ship, and she instinctively drew a pistol in her left hand and her sabre in her right. As he eyes adjusted to the light outside, she saw quite the scene. There was Elric Rolance, pretty boy, standing over a marine cringing on the ground, and holding another hostage with a pistol. The entire crew was had their swords and guns drawn, all ready to send Elric right to hell.

She assessed the situation best she could, and awkwardly pointed her gun at Elric, unsure of what was going on. She walked up, standing up just ahead of Mr. Thomas, making her the closest person to Elric, apart from the two marines.

"What the hell's going on here!?" She asked, confused.

As William waited for a reply the deck suddenly exploded with noise and activity. The Captain jumped from his seat, nearly running for the door and only a few steps behind Miss Whitmoore. What he saw when as he left his cabin astonished him. Elric Rolance was standing facing Mr. Thomas, a marine on the ground clutching his face as he held on to another one with a pistol pointed to his head.

"What the hell's going on here!?" Whitmoore asked, obviously confused by what was happening just as the captain was.

"This man was refusing to cooperate, so I order the men to detain him in one of the cells. He attacked." William's first officer's voice quivered with rage. He cared for the crew almost as much as William himself, and his famed anger was obviously at full blaze. William turned his gaze to Elric, the ever present love in his eyes now masked by cold, steely anger.

"Well Mr. Rolance, I hope you are happy." William's voice was ice cold and had a very dangerous edge. "Whatever chance you ever had of serving as a member of the crew of this ship as just vanished. You see, I cannot have a man that will put his own selfish needs above those of the ship and crew. You now hold that man's life in your hands. Only you can decide whether he lives or dies. But I assure you that if you kill him you will be prosecuted to the full extent of the Laws of the Sea. Or you could release that man and peaceably go down to the hold and be detained. Since you are not a member of the crew, I will not punish. Instead you will be held as a prisoner to be released at the first port we dock at." William didn't mention that was likely to be Havana, "You will be allowed on deck during designated parts of the day. This will also allow you a chance to possibly regain my trust. The choice is now yours. Release this man and I will not prosecute, though I should, or kill him and be known through the rest of history to be a murder." William kept his cold gaze locked with Rolance's eyes as the crew waited with baited breathe for his decision.

Elric looked at the bounty hunter. "Well, Mr. Thomas and myself were in a rather pointless discussion about signing up with the company. He couldn't seem to get it through his thick skull that should I sign up and die at sea, my father would likely blame the men on this boat. But, if I don't sign up and die, no one is none the wiser. Mr. Thomas however, seems to be either too thick, or was just trying to savor an opportunity where he might be able to tell a noble what to do. Then he ordered two marines to forcefully take me to the cells for no other apparent reason then the fact I made him angry. Some other things happened and now I have made the poor decision of taking a hostage." Elric pressed the barrel of the gun on the marine and looked at the Captain. "Captain, do I look nervous? This is the problem with soldiers. It seems you all have it in your heads that all nobles are rich, egotistical, and weak. Murderer?" Elric smiled and pressed the gun harder, the marine cringing with his eyes closed. "Captain, when I was chosen to possibly become the next King, I resolved to do anything. To save Heromi- the Princess, I am willing to kill anyone who sets themselves before me. So, let's not waste time on arguments of morals and codes. Much like my conversation with your thick First Mate, it will go nowhere."

"Now, back to the negotiations for the life of your man. Captain, I'm what you might call an idiot. I realize simply going with the men would be in my best interest, but to pretend that I would be forcefully taken and not have a problem is something that escapes me. I guess you could say its an utterly ridiculous flaw that will likely get me killed." Elric lightened his pressing of the gun. The Captain was different from him in a situation like this. Elric would way the cost of the hostage verse letting the hostage taker survive. If the risk was great enough, he would open fire on both of them. "I accept your terms on a few conditions. One, no one is to grab me forcefully again, or else a situation like this will likely arise. Two, my pistol and sword must not be kept around where common crew can take them. They took a long time to find and acquire. My final condition is that I must remain on the ship for the entire voyage, or at least until we find the Princess and she can be taken back. I will not let you leave me in some Godforsaken hole of a port. Chances are were you to do that, I will find another means of transportation and chase after her. Even if its a dinghy."

Elric sighed, realizing this wasn't going anywhere. The Captain spoke of himself as nobility, but it was the type he often heard his father and those around him laugh at. He was wondering why the crew felt the need to cheer, like Elric had even the faintest idea that they would side with the man who took down two of their comrades. This wasn't about the Princess, the king, or the country despite the Captains speech. This was about arrogance and foolishness, on both sides. Elric was rather shocked the Captain called him a coward. One would think taking a soldier hostage and disabling another one on a ship out to sea would take some guts. "This is clearly going nowhere. Your threats, though grandiosely said as they may be, will not work on me. You act as though shouting and snarling will make me cower, I find it to be rather repulsive. Can you get it through that thick skull of yours? I come abroad, offer help, get ordered to the cell, then you threaten capital punishment? This has gone directly opposite the way I thought it would. 'Hi, I'd like to help you bring my Fiance home'. 'To the gallows!' When you repeat it back it seems kind of foolish. It's kind of like two colliding ego's unwilling to compromise. Actually, it is exactly like that." Elric let out a slight chuckle and shook his head. "This is really quite pathetic."

Death or disfigurement through kneehaul, or I kill the man right here and they open fire. Well, the bullets won't likely hurt as much. Elric tightened the trigger, but stopped. You were supposed to protect her. You swore that to yourself. How can I protect her if I'm dead? She is like a sister to me, yet I'm willing to do all this? And the Captain, willing to risk his man just to look good in front of his crew? Elric took a deep breath and looked at the Captain, his eyes appearing as though he had had enough. "Mr. Hamilton, I find you to be arrogant, egotistical, stubborn, and somewhat of a snarling idiot. But, for her sake, its probably better your that way. If it's still on the table, I will take the original offer. Keep me locked up and then leave me at the next port. I will find my way back to England just fine. If the offers not on the table, your man and I will die right here. Either way, I want you to promise me you'll bring her back. Not for a King that shuns her, and not for a country that abandons her, but for her."

Willow watched, her pistol pointed at Elric, cocked and ready to fire. She had faith in her ability to shoot, in fact, she knew she wouldn't hit the marine, but if she shot, the whole crew would shoot, and then Elric would shoot, and there would be 60 shots in Elric, one in the marine, and we'd be no closer to Havana, and down two members. She thought the pirates must be having such a smooth sail. Sometimes she thought about joining a pirate crew, escaping the politics of Europe, saving her life. But what crew would take her? She'd killed someone or stolen something from a majority of those pirates out there, no, in all probability they'd probably rape her, beat her, and throw her to the sharks. That was fantasy talk.

She was interrupted in her thoughts by loud shouting.
"FOR THE CAPTAIN!"
"FOR KING AND COUNTRY!"
The crew was almost instantly aflame with cheers and shouts.

Elric spoke up after a moment. "This is clearly going nowhere. Your threats, though grandiosely said as they may be, will not work on me. You act as though shouting and snarling will make me cower, I find it to be rather repulsive. Can you get it through that thick skull of yours? 'To the gallows!' When you repeat it back it seems kind of foolish. It's kind of like two colliding ego's unwilling to compromise. Actually, it is exactly like that."
He chuckled and shook his head. Willow at first saw this as a confirmation if his unwillingness to back down, but soon realized there was more behind it.
"This is really quite pathetic." He muttered, likely to himself and to the Captain.

He stood still for a moment, thinking. At last he spoke up. Willow caught a glimpse of his eyes, the harsh red now softer, as he'd decided to back down.
"Mr. Hamilton, I find you to be arrogant, egotistical, stubborn, and somewhat of a snarling idiot. But, for her sake, its probably better you're that way. If it's still on the table, I will take the original offer. Keep me locked up and then leave me at the next port. I will find my way back to England just fine. Willow gulped in shock that he was the one to fold. She gulped again as he spoke the last part. Not for a King that shuns her, and not for a country that abandons her, but for her. She lowered her gun. He really loves her..she thought to her self. At last she realized this was where the captain made his decision. He'd said she was free to make suggestions, so why not? She leaned over to him, and whispered to him.
"Captain, I think pretty boy would be a lot easier on the eyes in chains than with bullets saturating his body. I think your man there might also be a bit more productive if he was alive. Maybe we should lock Elric up, and release him in Havana. I'd volunteer myself guard duty, if don't want anyone else to?" She looked back at Elric, his face waiting for a response from the Captain, and she wondered if he really was afraid to die.

Elric released the soldier, removing his sword and firearm and handing them to a soldier. He followed the Captain and Whitmoore into the cabin, ignoring the dirty looks from most of the crew. He looked around the cabin, sitting down and crossing his legs. He was feeling a little lucky about the fact he wasn't tasting barnacle on the side of the ship right now. He had decided to help the captain the best he could for the duration he was on the ship. When he was younger he was gifted with having a friend who thought in a similar fashion to him. They both were willing to accept any explanation until it was proven false, and they both enjoyed reading of myths and legends. As pointless as it may be for Elric to reflect on this, that time has allowed him to think of things with a much broader sense and understanding. "I think my time would be best served helping you find out why they took the Princess, rather than where they are going. Like a chess game, you don't focus on the actual move of the opponent, as much as you do what they plan to do after that move, and why it was made originally. Its the same here. If you find out why they took her, there is a good chance that will tell you exactly where they're heading. Do either of you have any ideas?"

Elric still hadn't told the Captain he was sorry for taking a member of his crew hostage. Ever since he dropped the gun, his mind had been fixed on pursuing the pirates. He knew they probably already discussed this, but he mostly just wanted any information they had. He was almost completely in the dark about the pirates.

Willow listened as the Captain spoke in response to Elric.
"Mr. Rolance I promise that I will do everything to bring the Princess back alive and well. It is obvious that we are both working towards the same goal. Let us forget what has just transpired here a try to start anew. If you would be as so kind as to accompany me to my cabin. And Miss Whitmoore, would you also please join us as well. Mr. Thomas, please get them back to their duties and get the Surgeon up here to look at these two men and make sure they are taken care of. I want to here how they are doing as soon as I am done with Miss Whitmoore and Mr Rolance or after an hour if we take that long." He then turned and led the way into his cabin. Willow followed suit.

She thought to herself as she followed into the cabin. She thought about the Captain, about Elric, about the situation. The more she thought about it, the more the pirates seemed the better off. They were in the cabin now. Elric was seated, he said something but Willow wasn't paying attention. She took a seat this time, to the left of Elric. Before the captain could address what Elric had said, she spoke up, attempting humor in this grim situation.
"Captain inviting me back into his cabin, and with pretty Elric here. The crew's going to talk." She smiled a dry smile and sat back in her chair.

"Well, it seems neither of us know anything about them. Oh well, at least it will make pondering my thoughts about them more interesting." Elric was always fond of putting situations into chess based analogies. Especially sense in chess, you are always bound to lose pawns to save the king. Though, right now Elric felt like a pawn, which made the analogy a little disheartening to think about.

I also will tell you that very meticulous records aboard the ship. Your presence will be recorded in the ships log, my own personal log, and undoubtedly the logs of many of the other officers. I have my own reasons for doing this and I ask you to trust.

Elric nodded and accepted this as an inevitable. "Well, it won't matter much. I only care that neither the King or my father is aware I am on this ship until my voyage is over. Since I am not here on any official logs outside of this ship, I can only hope they don't find out." Elric remembered when he left home without telling anyone when he was twelve. Him and his best friend decided to go on an adventure, and were not coming back until they made it. When he returned home his father fired those who were supposed to watch him and nearly created a manhunt to find him. Elric snapped back when the Captain told him that Miss Whitmoore would be guarding him, to which he grudgingly accepted.

He turned to Miss Whitmoore. "It seems we will be spending a lot of time together. Tell me, will you be addressing me as, 'Pretty Elric' every time? To be quite honest, I'm not to fond of that name."

The Captain gave a glance to her comment that hinted at that sort of faint amusement that almost came with the stupidity of people. Willow chuckled under her breath.
She relaxed herself as the captain explained the situation. He did so with authority, more so than she did, though, as long as she'd been on, she hadn't see him do anything without it. Elric looked more and more defeated as each option was crossed off the list, his face becoming more distraught. At last the captain finished his speech, and moved on to the matter of Elric. She returned from half-listening as her name was spoken.

"Miss Witmoore, I would like you to guard Mr. Rolance as you suggested. Please try to keep safe and out of trouble. Mr. Rolance, I will still be confining you to one of the ship's cell for a week. You will be allowed to out during the day, but only if you are accompanied by Miss Witmoore. Hopefully this will improve help the crew's attitude and behavior towards you as well as providing you time to ponder the consequences of actions like those you just took. I also will tell you that very meticulous records aboard the ship. Your presence will be recorded in the ships log, my own personal log, and undoubtedly the logs of many of the other officers. I have my own reasons for doing this and I ask you to trust."

He finished up his speech with a question, and Elric responded fairly quickly.

"Well, it seems neither of us know anything about them. Oh well..." at that point Willow stopped paying attention. She began to focus on the view out the captains window, watching the seagulls flock about with freedom. Strange that the government doesn't try to control where they go...maybe it's because they fly...

"It seems we will be spending a lot of time together. Tell me, will you be addressing me as, 'Pretty Elric' every time? To be quite honest, I'm not to fond of that name." It took her a few moments to realize that Elric was speaking to her. She looked to him, her mind mixing his words with the call of seagulls. It took her another moment to figure out what was what, and by the time she could say anything, she realized that her mouth had been slightly ajar for those moments. She tried to be witty.

"All the more reason for me to keep calling you that, huh?" She smiled a playful smile, and stood up, taking a step towards Elric.
"Like the good captain said, to the brig with you!" She laughed a bit as she pretended to be a mean jailor. "If you cooperate, we won't need the shackles..." The last part was said with a mixed tone, leaving Elric to guess whether she was being edgy or serious.

If you cooperate, we won't need the shackles..." Miss Whitmoore laughed, and William couldn't help but chuckle a little to. It seemed that the two of them might get along. They both seemed to be willing to accept the situation at least, which made William's job much easier.

"Very well then. If that is all, Miss Whitmoore, you should be able to get the keys the cells from the Boatswain. Tell him that you have been given responsibility of Mr. Rolance. If he gives you any problems, tell him to come speak to me." With that, William stood up, indicating that the little meeting was over. He turned to look at the windows again, watching the sea and feeling the ship move. It was pretty much the only life he remembered, but it was one he was content with. Both ship and sea could be harsh mistresses, but William had learned to read both well. He knew when to push and also where it was best to just go along for the ride. He considered himself to be a happy man, but today had brought back memories and feeling that he had thought he had long since rid himself of. He thought of what life could have been like, about the life that by all rights he should have had with his beloved Rebecca. The life that had been stolen from him by a vain, egotistical noble. He still had a small portrait of Rebecca buried in one of the drawers of his desk, one that she had given him when they it seemed that they would be spending the rest of their lives together. He should have thrown it out when she had gotten married, but he had never been able to bring himself to do so. Instead he had just buried it out of sight, just like he had done his with his emotions. But unfortunately the events of today had brought them back to the surface.

William closed his eyes against the tears that threatened to overwhelm him, this head bowed from the pain, anger, sorrow, and loss that now tormented him again. Was he content with his life. Yes. He thought we might even be quite happy with. But the ghosts of what might have been haunted him now, making him all to aware of what he had lost. With any luck he might be able to save Mr. Rolance from a similar fate, for he truly did seem to care for the Princess.
