Kyrie is quiet, a person who keeps to herself, with her nose always stuck inside a book. Socialization isn't her forte, and she would usually just rather resolve everything with a silent glare. Some people might find that her callous and cold demeanor is just her shy side showing, but Kyrie has never really been shy. She simply thinks that people aren't worth her time as she'd rather spend it on research and Pokemon.

Kyrie Valentine has always lived in the shadow of her older brother. He was the better child - nicer, stronger, and a better Trainer. He was their prodigy, the one they planned for and spent all their time on. Odin was going to be the next Pokemon Champion, their father would always say. Odin would raise the best Pokemon the world has ever seen, their mother would agree. And Odin, well... He never disappointed them.
Odin was halfway through his journey when Kyrie asked for her first Pokemon. She had wanted to be just like her brother - looking up to him as though he were Arceus personified - but her parents looked at her with eyes that swam with an emotion she couldn't place then, and said no. Young Kyrie had cried her eyes out that night, her anger at her parents for not allowing her to do something so simple tainting her insides like a quick and deadly poison. She had, after all, devoted much of her life to Pokemon like her brother did, even more so with the amount of reading she took up about them. Her parents decision had been unjust for her, or so she thought.
She was eleven when they finally told her.
'Kyrie, you don't have the time for a journey,' her father had said, 'You never had the time.'
It turned out, that the aching in her chest truly was poison. A cancerous poison that threatened to swallow her body to oblivion at any time it wanted. A weak heart that continued to pump tainted blood all over her body, destroying her from the inside out.
It made Kyrie angry - absolutely livid at her destiny. No, she didn't accept it. At age twelve, Kyrie ran away from her home and sought out her brother, begging him to help her obtain her first Pokemon. He had obliged, only because he knew limiting his sister because of her sickness would only cause her further suffering. So she'd began her first journey, using Pokemon to help her seek out ways to cure her heart.
For years, she'd devoted her life to training Pokemon who could understand her well enough to know if her sickness was getting a hold of her again. For years, they traveled around Unova, seeking out the greatest medical minds for a cure, but they found none. For years, Kyrie clung on to an elusive hope, every day turning her rage into something bigger - something she feared would explode from deep inside her.
She was inside a laboratory, surrounded by all sorts of herbs and vial, and running on four days without sleep, when Uxie appeared to her. Uxie had taken notice of her knowledge, of how her search for a selfish cure had somehow helped others more than it helped her. Uxie had seen the mind Kyrie possessed, how it held an almost monstrous thirst for more. And so, Uxie chose her, a dying researcher, to become its Gladiator, promising to guide her so that Kyrie could take on the journey without the threat of death looming over her shoulders.
It was a chance at research no one had ever performed before, and winning could allow her to wish away her sickness, and so Kyrie wholeheartedly accepted.
