Details
Raine prefers to wear her favorite red top with jean shorts. She also keeps a black hair tie around her wrist, just in case. Otherwise, her waist-long hair is loose, unconstricted, which is how she prefers it.

Age
15

Gender
Female

Starter Pokemon
Bulbasaur

Appearance

Name
Nitzan

Personality
Nitzan is calm and relaxed, prefering to take it's time instead of rushing into things. It's also loyal, and will follow it's trainer and friends every time. It prefers to rely on strategy and planning over speed or strength.

Personality
Raine is very outgoing. She's bright and bubbly, and loves meeting new people and making friends. She is very optimistic, and does what she can to help those around her. However, she's also very naive. She will help anyone who seems nice, and is unable to recognize when someone is lying to her. This tends to get her into trouble sometimes. She won't go alone, though, and usually drags someone with her. She's also very oblivious, and sometimes scatterbrained.

Quirks
Raine tends to hop in place when she's excited about something. Whenever she is around friends, if she's really happy or excited, they will often get a hug, whether they want it or not. However, when she does get frightened or worried, she becomes clingy.

Hobbies
Raine likes to watch Pokemon in the wild. She also likes to cook; she seems to find it calming when she's upset, especially baking.

Bio
Raine grew up in Pallet Town with her parents, older sister, and younger brother. She grew up on stories her parents told her from their travels when they were younger. Her mother had been a coordinator, but had retired to be a house wife and mother. Her father, on the other hand, had been a Pokemon trainer, striving to become a master. He left that behind, though, to work at Silph Co. He usually works with them from his computer, but often makes trips to Saffron City to do some work there in person. Her older sister started to follow in their mother's footsteps, working to be a coordinator, but quit, deciding it was too much work, and too much travelling. Her younger brother is trying to be a trainer, but is still a few years too young to travel with his own Pokemon.

Because of her knack for finding trouble (unintentionally), her parents were always reluctant to let her travel. For a while, they were reluctant to let her out of the house! She spent much of her childhood outside, though, finding her own adventures around Pallet Town, without her parents knowledge or permission. It was on one of these adventures that she met Xero Kay, who she convinced (annoyed the hell out of) to become her friend. She dragged him along on some of the adventures around Pallet Town before Raine decided to ask her parents to let her have a real adventure. It took several years before they finally caved, and so she is starting her journey late, at the age of 15. There was one condition, however; she had to take someone with her. Her first and only choice, obviously, was Xero. Despite the fact that her parents had warned her against hanging out with him. Fortunately, they don't yet know who she's bringing with her.

She is very excited to be going on her first real adventure instead of the make-believe ones she has become accustomed to.

So begins...

Raine laid in the bed impatiently, waiting for morning. She had been unable to sleep much the night before, and what little sleep she got was uneasy. She was far too excited to sleep. She was finally going to start her journey! And the best part was she wasn't going to be on her own. Not only would she have her Pokemon with her, but she had "convinced" Xero to go with her, as well. Finally, her alarm went off, and she jumped to turn it off and hop out of bed.

She rushed to get dressed, nearly forgetting to wrap a hair tie around her wrist as she went. Who knew when she might need that, after all? She had asked her parents to help her pack her bag the night before, and now she grabbed it. She rushed down the stairs and straight to the door. Where she was promptly stopped by her mother.

"Where do you think you're rushing off to?" Raine gave her an exasperated look.

"Mom, you know where I'm going!"

"No reason to rush out like that. You know better than to run inside the house." Raine barely held in her irritated complaint. She knew she wasn't supposed to run, but her mother knew she was excited to start her own adventure. After listening to her parents stories, it was well past time she went out and made her own. What was so wrong with that? Besides, it wasn't like the entire family was there. Her sister didn't travel too much anymore, but she still on occassion went to nearby cities for a few days at a time. That was where she was now; some other city with a few friends she had made on her previous journey. Her father had even left late the night before, shortly after helping with her pack, on a business trip to Saffron. What was the point?

"Yeah, alright; I'm sorry, Mom." The sooner this was over with, the sooner she'd be out that door.

"Go ahead now; and walk, don't run. And I'll be waiting to see your Pokemon and your friend before you go." Raine bit her lip. She hadn't told her parents she had talked Xero into travelling with her. Their only condition had been that she couldn't go alone, but she knew they weren't overly fond of her hanging out with Xero. But she'd deal with that later; perhaps just a rushed visit and then gone. What was she going to do about it, anyway? She had to stay home to watch her younger brother.

Raine turned and walked out the door, and a few steps away from the house before she started half-running, half-skipping to the lab. She was beyond excited about this adventure; more excited than she had ever been before. She only paused for a moment, to look for Xero. She couldn't go to the lab on her own; if Xero would be travelling with her, she was convinced their journey would start at the lab, getting their Pokemon. They had to be there at the same time!

Xero casually walked down the road, making his way past a few houses as he nodded a greeting to some of his neighbors. There were a few of those that didn't respond to him, just glancing away. He had gotten used to those few town folks that didn't feel comfortable around him. As he caught sight of the lab up ahead, he noticed a familiar face just at the corner of his eye looking around rather energetically. There was only one person in this small town that could make the simple act of "looking" be seem hyperactive.

"Raine!" He called out to her with a wave of his hand as he kept walking. His first thought was to avoid her, but he knew that if he were to go ahead she would give him a nagging like nothing before. That, and it didn't really feel right to pull such a thing on her when she was the one that invited him along. Making his way down the road toward the lab, he drew closer to her.

"Ready to go see Professor Oak I guess?" He gave a soft chuckle, knowing that in any moment he would be given a swarm of excited comments from her.

Raine started hopping in place as she waited for Xero to catch up to her. Why was he moving so slowly? She wanted to get to the lab now, not whenever Xero decided to reach her. Why couldn't he run or jog, and not walk? That made the whole thing last so much longer! Finally, though, he had reached her, and she bounced alongside him as they went to the lab, full of obvious excitement and energy.

"Ready? I've been ready since my parents gave me permission! How could you just walk on a day like this? The sooner we get there, the sooner we get out Pokemon! And the sooner that happens, the sooner we can get startd on our journey!" She hesitated, thinking hard, and for a moment she was actually walking next to him.

"...Umm...my mom wants me to stop by the house before we leave...she wants to see the Pokemon I choose...and who I asked to go with me." Maybe she should have said something about it sooner, but she intended that visit to be very short, and to get moving as soon as possible, no matter what her mom might say. Though she knew her mother wasn't going to be happy about it.

"Aren't you excited about any of this?" she asked, resuming her bouncing.

Xero just nodded along with her words as he walked along casually. One could barely tell that she hardly got any sleep last night. As she mentioned passing by her house before leaving, he knew what that entitled to.

"Well you weren't actually thinking of just leaving without letting them see who you chose right?...Wait..don't answer that." He took back his remark, knowing that she just may have had that very thought after all.

"Look, the worst she can do is scold you now. Once you get your starter and are accepted by the professor, you out of her reach." Xero had always been the sort of "voice of reason" to her, keeping her from jumping into something without thinking. His words came out calmly as he just kept walking toward the lab.

Opening the door, Xero walked in ahead of her. Several scientists focused on their work as they walked in, only one of them looked back at them entering. He wore a large white lab coat and tall brown spiked hair over his head.

"There you guys are. Was wondering if your mom changed her mind, Raine." The aging Professor chuckled as he walked over to greet them.

Professor Gary Oak was the grandson of the town's previous professor. It was said that he used to be rivals with the current World Pokemon Master years ago before he followed in his grandfather's foot steps and became a professor like him.

Raine almost answered his question when he stopped her. Apparently he either didn't want to hear the answer, or had already guessed. Neither one would surprise her too much. She sighed, slowing to a walk again, but she quickly started hopping along again.

"Oh, I know. It's just not much fun when she's mad at me. She packed me a phone so she could call me...and I'll definitely be hearing about this one for a little while. I just hope she'll eventually see that there's absolutely nothing wrong," she explained, with her normal big smile across her face. At least Xero was right; he typically was, but that didn't often keep her out of trouble when she was determined.

Raine looked around the lab excitedly as they entered. It didn't seem like too many were paying much attention, but Professor Oak, at least, noticed them. She gave the professor a big grin.

"Oh, she might yet; still not going to stop me, though." She was much too excited now to bother worrying about her mother being upset, or changing her mind. Xero had been right; what could she do to stop her once she had her Pokemon?

Professor Oak gave another chuckle and led the pair towards the back of the lab, there there sat a table with three pokeballs.

"These are the Pokemon you can choose from; Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle. Go ahead; choose one. But let's try not to fight over the Pokemon, okay?" he suggested, with another little chuckle.

Xero walked over to the table as he glanced at the three pokeballs. In each one was a pokemon that would be his first partner on his travels. But the big question was: Which one matched him? He glanced at the three pokeballs for long and hard, his hand swaying over each one as if hesitation caused him to move over another. He was to much of a thinker to make such a choice right off the bat. Even worse one such important as this.

Professor Oak watched his stern face as Xero looked at the pokeballs with a smile.

"No need to get all serious about it. Just pick the one that matches you best."

Xero looked at the professor, nodding at his words as he then looked back at the table. Letting out a deep breath to calm his thoughts, he finally lowered his hand onto the pokeball on the left.

"Charmander." He said as he lifted up the pokeball holding the fire lizard. He smiled at his choice, feeling that it was truly the correct one before he glanced over at Raine.

"Well, your turn."

Raine watched Xero choosing his Pokemon, and for once, she was very still. She had already decided on her favorite Pokemon; her only worry was that Xero would choose that one, and she'd have to choose between the other two. But she breathed a quiet sigh of relief as he chose Charmander. She had considered that one, but it wasn't really the one she wanted. She smiled when told it was her turn. She walked up to the table, choosing the pokeball that contained Bulbasaur.

"I like Bulbasaur. ...But I'm calling it Nitzan," she said, decisively, nodding to herself.

"My mom said it means flower bud, so it's perfect." She sounded very proud of herself for remembering that little fact. Professor Oak nodded.

"Well, that takes care of that. Now there's just the pokedex." He paused, looking over the two. Raine had returned to hopping in place, holding the pokeball tightly. He turned his attention back to Xero.

"Perhaps you should carry the pokedex," he said, turning to his desk to retrieve the pokedex.

"I'd have to agree with you." Xero replied to the professor's words as he followed him to the desk. As he waited for the Pokedex, he looked at his pokeball, wondering what he might call his new partner.

"Here we go." Xero looked up as he heard the professor speak again, taking out a device from the compartment in his desk.

"I'm sure you know what this is already since it's become part of the lessons for trainers ever since my grandfather made it." Oak chuckled a bit as he handed the Pokedex to Xero. Looking at the device, he opened it to examining it's contents as the screen inside lit up the moment he opened it.

"The Pokedex will record the pokemon that you see, but you have to catch it in order to update with more details on that particular pokemon. So don't hold back on the pokeballs out there." The professor laughed as he gave the two of them a warm smile. "Any questions?"

"No I'm good." Xero replied as he shook his head. He looked back at Raine to see if she had anything to ask before they left.

Raine looked back to Xero and the professor; clearly Xero would be holding on to the pokedex. She frowned for a moment, but brushed it off. She was more likely to lose it, or break it, or something. She looked back to the pokeball containing her new Pokemon. Now there was no way her mother was going to stop her from going out on her journey. She already had her very first Pokemon! She started hopping excitedly, looking back to the other two.

"I don't have any questions; are we ready to go now?" she asked, impatiently. Sure, the pokedex storing information was cool, but she wanted to get moving. Why was everyone going so slow today? She supposed she was being overly impatient, but she couldn't help it; she was too excited. The professor shook his head, seeming to be slightly amused.

"Don't rush too much; that's how you find trouble." But that hardly seemed likely, knowing her. He glanced at Xero.

"Make sure you keep her out of trouble; it's a bit more dangerous out there," he warned.

As he looked at Raine as she bounced in place, Xero released a deep sigh in hearing the professor's words.

"Why do you think I'm going with her to begin with?" He gave a slight shrug. He knew that with Raine around, this journey was going to be anything but relaxing.

"Haha, I know. It was just a small warning." Oak noticed the concerned look on Xero's face as he patter him on the shoulder. "Trust in your partner and in each other. That's the perfect way to be safe now and days."

Xero looked at the professor, nodding with a faint smile. Giving him a quick farewell, he starts heading for the door as he slipped the pokedex into his pocket.

"Raine! We're heading out now!" He called to her as he knew that she would be still bouncing in place and not paying attention. Heading out the door, Xero held up his pokeball as he thought on the professors words.

"Partners huh?....Pyro...That's a good name for a partner." He smiled for a moment before putting the pokeball out and continued on ahead.

Raine glanced around as she heard her name. He was leaving? Without telling her beforehand? She hurried to catch up with him, quickly putting the pokeball away as she did.

Alright; let's get going, then!" She knew she would have to stop at home, but at least they would be leaving soon after that. She paused for just a second to turn back to the professor, though he was already getting back to work, to shout out her farewell. Then she turned to rush towards Xero. She conitnued to bounce as she walked alongside Xero.

"So I thought we should make this visit really short; before she can start yelling at me. As long as we get out of there quickly, and I ignore my phone for the next few hours, we shouldn't hear too much yelling, you know?" she explained. She wasn't bouncing as much, but she still obviously had plenty of energy.

"And then we can leave for our real adventure! Isn't it exciting?"

"I'm rather impressed. For once you actually thought something through." He commented to her idea with a teasing chuckle.

"But I guess that's good for now. To make sure things don't go to bad, I suggest making her come out of the house so there is an open route to get away." Xero held onto his chin as he worked out the "escape plan" they would take. "You could tell her that you don't want to dirty the house or something with your new pokemon so she comes out to see your starter. Then introduce me and before she goes all crazy on you, we make a break for it."

Once again, Xero was the one that worked out the plans for Raine's troubles. However, the good part of this plan is that it marked as the point where he wont have to hear about Raine's parents commenting about him for a long time now. How long? Only time will give that answer.

Walking along, he noticed Raine's house closing in as he started to separate from her.

"Call them out, I'll stay out of sight until you call for me." He told her before heading over behind a tree.

Raine stuck her tongue out at Xero when he teased her. Still, she smiled afterwards, to show she was only teasing, too. But she blinked, looking at Xero as he walked out of sight. She thought his idea worked fairly well, too. Put together, it made things a lot easier. She pulled out the pokeball, glancing at it before sending it out to rest in the lawn. This was a good enough excuse. She poked her head into the door of the house.

"Mom? My Pokemon's out here in the lawn," she called, then backed out hurriedly. Instead of her mother coming out first, her younger brother, Aaron, hurried out. He looked over the Bulbasaur curiously. He waved dismissively, though.

"I would have chosen a different one," he mumbled, indifferent. Raine frowned at him, but put on another grin and knelt down next to Nitzan.

"Well, you weren't the one choosing, were you? I like Bulbasaur better, though." The truth was, she preferred plant types. But she had been encouraged to use other types; her father had even suggested water types might be better for her to work with, but she was stubborn. Her mother walked out, then, and only glanced over the Bulbasaur.

"That one's cute; you could go into contests if you wanted to." She ignored Raine shaking her head; she knew as well as anyone that she wanted to be a Pokemon trainer, not a coordinator.

"So...where's your friend? Or did you lie and not ask someone to join you?" Raine winced, and glanced at the tree where Xero was hiding. This was the part she wasn't looking forward to.

"Umm...you can come out now," she called.

Xero took a deep breath and pulled out his pokeball. He tossed it up into the air as his Charmander landed down onto his head.

"Let's do this, Pyro." He muttered to his new partner as he stepped out from behind the tree. He casually waved at Raine's mom and little brother.

"Greetings, ma'am. I guess you now are familiar with why I'm here?" He asked her as he stayed a safe distance away, ready to make a break for it. Pyro felt the tension in the air as his claws held tightly onto Xero's head to get ready.

"Well, I'm sure you have plenty of questions and such, but I think we have to get going. Right Raine?" He glanced over at Raine as he signaled her to start making a break for it.

Raine glanced at Xero, then picked up the Bulbasaur, while her mother tried to process the situation. Raine had cautiously backed away a few steps before her mother finally exploded.

"What did I tell you?!" At that point, Raine turned tail and ran towards Xero.

"Yes; definitely time to go." She didn't need to glance back; she knew her mother was storming towards her. But she wouldn't go far. She couldn't when Aaron was there, and needed supervision. All the while, her mother screamed and shouted for Raine to return, most likely for a proper scolding. Raine wasn't about to turn back to face her mother, though, and was fully prepared to turn the phone her mother had given her off for the day. She couldn't stand yelling, especially from her mother. Nitzan was more preoccupied with looking around, apparently searching for a reason for them to be running.

"...Let's not come back for a while. It'll be a long time before she calms down..."

Xero laughed a bit as he started to run as he looked over at Rainer.

"You were planning on returning home so soon?" He joked to her about her desire to go on an adventure and now mentioning that. With Pyro clinging onto his head, Xero spots a familiar face ahead at the town's entrance.

"Hoshi!" He called out to the old man waiting to see him off. He returned a reply with a warm smile as Xero slowed down his pace before he stopped.

"Ah Xero, and Raine as well I see. I take it your mother wasn't to happy of your companion?" He chuckled a bit, easy tell the reason why they had run and from what. "It seems your all set to go now huh?"

"Yeah.." Xero nodded before he gave him a short bow. "Thank you for everything."

"What have I told you?" Hoshi replied as he placed a hand on Xero's head, just underneath Pyro. "Stop being formal." He gave a chuckle as Xero smiled back.

"We'll come back to visit when we're in the area again."

"Just be safe you too, alright?"

Xero nodded in response as he adjusted his bag over his shoulders and started to walk ahead. Exiting the town, they stepped onto Route 1 and the beginning of their journey.

Raine made a face. She hadn't planned on returning home unless it was absolutely necessary; not for a while, anyway. Of course, that also meant contacting her would be put off for a while, too. The first time she tried, she knew she'd end up yelling at her, and that wasn't going to be fun. She blinked and looked ahead when Xero called Hoshi's name. She gave him a smile.

"Nope; she wasn't happy in the slightest!" she replied. She wished her mother would tolerate him better, but there wasn't much she could do to change it. She watched, confused, as Xero bowed. It hardly seemed necessary, and she knew Hoshi agreed. He did keep telling Xero not to be so formal. She gave another big smile as she turned to walk onto Route 1 with Xero.

"We're finally out of Pallet Town!" Finally, they were starting their own adventure! She resumed her bouncing walk, resisting the urge to run instead.

"So now...we head to...Viridian City...right? Isn't that the closest?"

Xero looked over to Raine, as he shook his head a bit at her question. He flipped his book bag in front of him as he unzipped it to take out the map Hoshi had given him. Returning the bag onto his shoulders, he opened up the small screen as the image of Kanto region's map appeared.

"Yeah, Route 1 leads to Viridian City." He told her, trailing his finger along the screen to follow the route they were on until it reached the city on the map. "It'll be about a day's walk if we just move along without any problems" He closed the device and slipped it into his pocket for easy access.

Pyro self appointed himself as watch as he remained on Xero's head, looking around as they kept going. He was careful to keep his flaming tail away as to not set Xero's hair on fire. Just then, he stood up and pointed his claw ahead of them.

"Char!" He cried out as he pointed at a Rattata.

Xero noticed the Rattata ahead of them as he pulled out the Pokedex.

"Hmm a Rattata. There one of the most common pokemon to run into it seems. No surprise it would be the first we see on this route." He looked through the basic information on the Mouse Pokemon as Pyro also glanced down from atop his head to look at the screen.

Raine blinked. Already, they had found their first Pokemon! And this one was kinda cute, anyway. She tightened her grip on Nitzan to make sure she wouldn't drop it, and watched the Rattat for a second, tensing for a moment. Nitzan gave a confused look for just a moment. Raine started creeping to the Rattata, hoping to go unnoticed so she could get close to it. But it did notice her, and took off. Raine hurriedly ran after it, still holding onto her Pokemon tightly.

"Saur?" The Bulbasaur cried, confused. Raine, however, was determined to catch the small mouse Pokemon, not bothering to see what Xero found out about that particular type of Pokemon. She didn't think she'd need it; all she needed to know was it was there, and she was going to catch it.

"Come on, Nitzan; we'll catch our first Pokemon together now!" She skidded to a halt, though, seeing the Rattata running to hide behind another, larger Pokemon. She backed off a step, worried now. There was a Raticate between her and the Rattata. Then several others stood, watching her. Apparently she had gone just a little too far. She looked between the Pokemon, backing away slowly, tightening her grip on her Bulbasaur.

"...I don't suppose you can fight a group this large on your own, Nitzan?"

Xero continued to read the information on the Rattata until Pyro poked him on the head.

"What is it?" He asked as he looked at where he was nudging toward just in time to spot Raine running off. "Wait Raine!"

Xero ran off as Pyro gripped onto his hair again as he tried hard to keep up with the hyperactive trainer. He pushed his way through the branches that ended up getting him behind her as he tried his best to catch up. By the time he got close enough, he spotted Raine being face to face with several Raticate.

"Pyro, use Growl!" Xero called out quickly as he drew closer.

The small Charmander leaped off of his head as he growled loudly to startle the several Raticate as he landed in front of Raine. The Raticates took a step back from the sound, but nothing else as they still glared at Raine.

"Not even a few minutes before you drag in more trouble?" Xero commented as he got up next to Raine. "Your going to have to fight too if we're getting out of this." He told her as he kept his eyes focused on the Raticates. Pyro glared back at them, ready to move on command.
