ImageHistory

Marko was raised born and raised in Massachusetts. Growing up, Marko lucked out in having a bunch of great opportunities go his way. He's very popular with anyone he meets, as he likes making friends and interacting with mostly anyone. A smile of a charmer, the looks of a playboy, and the brain of a CEO. Some call him the total package. Marko hasn't experienced any misfortune thus far in his life. Perhaps due to his careful planning and decision making. But with the help of his parents, who own a huge business firm in Boston, Marko hasn't had the need to worry about not having money. In the summer leading up to his Junior year, Marko was offered an amazing opportunity as an apprentice through his father's work. It's a future position that Marko's father is hoping to give him once Marko graduates high school. However, this apprenticeship is only offered at the international location in Moscow, Russia. An opportunity that could change Marko's life forever. He was a bit apprehensive at first considering that he didn't have a native tongue. He knew Russian, but only at about an intermediate level so it wasn't perfect. The other thing concerning Marko is that he wouldn't have much family over there. His Uncle and his family are the only family members he has over there, and he hasn't seen any of them in years. Marko's whole life is here. That would mean saying goodbye to his current girlfriend Dani. Of course he didn't want to leave anyone behind. His established life was comforting, and Marko isn't sure if he's ready to give that up.

***

After having the whole summer to really think about his decision, Marko decided to say yes to the job offer. He would be finishing his Junior year in Moscow, while working at the business firm as an apprentice part time to get more on the job experience. Marko's girlfriend Dani suggested that they try and make long distance work, as she didn't want to give Marko up. Marko took it upon himself to reach out to his Uncle to arrange living situations. Marko would be staying at his Uncle's guest house he has open. Luckily being the new student at his new high school won't be so bad as both of his cousins are in high school this year. One in 9th grade and the other in Marko's class. Saying one last good bye to everyone he cares about, Marko is on his way to Moscow to begin the next chapter in his life. And he couldn't be more excited about it.

Liliya Sokolovskaya
XXXXx.XXX sixteen female gang member #520F63 #A23DC4 Kyouko Kirigiri

Liliya entered the large store, dressed in a simplified version of her preferred getup. It was approaching the middle of September, when it was still warm enough for Liliya to wear a white collared dress shirt that had been through its fair share of wear and tear. Her lithe hands were covered with silken black gloves, and as always, Liliya was wearing a pair of dark slacks - her outfit, as usual, showed very little femininity.

The Russian girl wasn't very happy with the job she was assigned - after all, if you were an experienced mafia member such as Liliya, you would expect to be given a more significant task than going to the store to buy some stuff scribbled on a list. Liliya was never the most literate (she could barely write a decent essay), but Liliya knew how to read a list. Believe it or not, Liliya was more well-versed in speaking foreign languages than reading and writing in her own language. After all, the amethyst-eyed girl picked up some Ukrainian from Lana.

Liliya pulled out her sleek black notebook, flipping through the pages (which mostly contained attempts at practicing the Russian language), stopping when she reached the list her superiors had shoved in her face. Hmm...шоколад.

Chocolate.

How stupid are those top dogs, thinking that they could send me off to get to top of the notch chocolate with the amount of fucking money we have? Liliya thought disdainfully, ignoring the first item of the list. Next...

Sandwiches. Matches. Anything edible in the clearance that is under sixty rubles and least the size of a baby pig. Используйте гребаные скидки. Use the fucking discounts. Tch. Liliya wasn't well-read, but that didn't mean she was as stupid as the brutes in some of the other gangs.

As Liliya rummaged through the clearance, one of her stupid classmates with Asian features and dark hair sauntered up to her. "Ah," he said, staring down at her. Liliya returned the semi-glare with a stony look that sent some of the nearby customers scurrying away. "Liliya Mitrofanovna. I didn't think I'd see you shopping among us common folk when you have your head in the clouds so often." What was his name...ah, Makoto Fukui, or Fukui Makoto in his language. It was clear that he was Japanese before anyone could catch his name. His Russian held no Asian accent, but it was stilted like an American's.

"I live a normal life," Liliya lied in a bored tone, "therefore, I must periodically shop for daily necessities. However, I'm flattered that you think I am above you." Good, my vocabulary isn't as limited as it was before.

Makoto narrowed his eyes; he, like practically everybody, was evidently intimidated by Liliya's first impression, but became disdainful of her instead due to her seemingly low work ethic and poor attendance. Liliya didn't have a bad work ethic, contrary to Makoto's opinion, but she had a job, and that job took priority.

"Don't speak so flippantly," Makoto responded. His eyes flickered to the side. "Oi! American! Yeah, you, redhead!"

Liliya's gaze followed Makoto, the girl letting out a small impatient sigh when she realized that Makoto was trying to get the attention of some American transfer student. The girl only knew the basics - Marko Volodin, star student in mathematics. Nonetheless, Liliya didn't have time for Makoto's twisted view of socializing.

"You must excuse me," Liliya stated dryly, "I don't know what the hell you do on weekends, but I have a busy schedule. I can't spare any time to socialize with you two. I'll have to depart now, you're wasting my time. Good day."

It was a nice fall day. Of course what the people around here would consider as fall. It was quite cold actually. Marko wasn't used to wearing a heavier coat in the middle of September. He wore a green scarf wrapped around his neck, to contrast his vibrant red hair. Sitting on a park bench Marko noticed how calm the day was. Kids were playing, laughing. Not having a care in the world. Something so pure, almost relaxing. It was getting late, and Marko started heading home.

Marko decided to take the longer way home. Walking through the different shops that were still open. Mindlessly perusing through the different vendors. Seeing if anything were to catch his eye. That's when Marko received a text from one of his cousins. "Where are you?" it read in English. He stared at his phone screen frazzled. That's odd? I remember telling everyone I'd be out today. Marko began to type back letting his cousin know where he was at. I'm downtown I think Idk I'll I know is I'm close by that one store with the really good chocolate Marko sent the text, and continued walking again.

After a bit more walking, Marko began to get hungry. Looking at the clock he couldn't believe how late it was getting, and that he should probably start heading home soon. But not before he stopped by that store to get some chocolate. The store was in sight, and Marko began to walk towards it. The street lights were beginning to turn on as the night was starting to come in. The city was so beautiful at night. Very picturesque, that anywhere you turned seemed like it was from a Hallmark photo. The store was decent looking, but one could tell that it was one of those hole in the walls. It looked aged, but it wasn't run down. It definitely kept what Marko could imagine as older Russian architecture. The building screamed Russian culture.

As Marko entered the store, he was greeted with mixtures of smells that could make anyone's mouth water. The smell was too good that Marko noticed his stomach beginning to grumble. "Oh boy..." He trailed off as he saw what he came here to do. At the back of the store sat the chocolate display. Taunting him. That's when Marko noticed a young girl looking at the display of chocolate almost disdainfully. The girl looked familiar. If he was correct, the young girl was in Marko's class. A girl he wouldn't encounter too much as she would only show up every once in a while. Of course, they'd never have had an actual conversation. He believed her name was Liliya. Marko watched as she looked down on some notepad that she was holding. The young girl ultimately just shrugged something off and began to a different part of the store that read Clearance.

Turning back his attention to the chocolate, he grabbed a goody bag from the near by table and began to liberally fill his bag with a bunch of treats comprising of Chocolate, and sweet buns. After paying the nice Russian lady who Marko assumed was the owner of the store, he began his way to the front door. Not getting very far, Marko heard a loud man voice. "Oi! American!" Marko turned his attention from the door, to an Asian Man with very dark hair. Marko looking puzzled, motioned his finger towards himself. With the Asian man replying, "Yeah, you redhead!". The guy Marko realized was one of his classmates. His name escaped him for a minute, but remembered that it was Makoto. Makoto is one of the more popular guys at the school. From what Marko could gather from the 3 ish weeks he's been there, everyone knew who he was. What Marko couldn't figure out was why he was wanting to talk. Frazzled, Marko did his best to reply in Russian. "Hello Makoto." As the words began to leave his mouth, Marko noticed Liliya slowly step away towards the door. "What brings you here? Isn't time for your curfew?" Makoto asked in a very arrogant tone. He reached one arm around and put it over Marko's shoulders. Grabbing him in a very hard manner."N-No. I just came here for some Chocolate!" Marko replied, stuttering. Something he normally doesn't do when talking. Marko pulled out a piece of Chocolate from his bag showing Makoto. Makoto snared making an annoyed face. He grabbed the piece of chocolate very abruptly from Marko's hand and ate it. Marko winced at the action, as he eyed Makoto chewing loudly. What is up with this guy? Marko pondered as he noticed Makoto pulling him towards the door. Pressing his lips onto Marko's ear, Makoto left a chill on Marko as he spoke,Let's go. It's getting kind of late." The two boys headed outside onto the chilly night. The lights where even brighter than before, showing the full display of the night life in the city. Makoto motioned the both of them past all the vendors and bright lights onto a more secluded section of pavilion.

"My past has tasted bitter for years now, so I wield an iron fist. Grace is just weakness, or so I've been told; I've been cold, I've been merciless. But the blood on my hands scares me to death; maybe I'm waking up today."

LILIYA MITROFANOVNA SOKOLOVSKAYA
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

#520F63 ♠ #A23DC4

"Hello, Makoto," Liliya heard the American say carefully as she began to make her leave. "What brings you here? Isn't time for your curfew?" "N-No. I just came here for some chocolate!" Liliya rolled her eyes. The immature things people bullied each other about these days. She'd never understand the normal teenager.

As the amethyst-eyed girl approach a familiar cashier at the checkout station, said cashier discreetly looked around while scanning her items, slipping her a piece of paper with a ten-digit number once the coast was clear. Liliya paid as usual, thanking the cashier in the neutral tone she always used for her undercover associates. As Liliya walked out the store, she spared the slip of paper a quick glance before smudging the graphite and shredding it into small, indistinguishable pieces. She headed to the nearest payphone, generating a few rubles out of her pockets as she dialed the number.

"Hello, this is Yuri's Piroshki Extravaganza, how may we help you?" a light, masculine voice asked politely.

"May I reserve a table for tonight?" Liliya asked in a bored tone. "In the upper east wing, specifically. Table for three."

Liliya heard some shuffling from the other side of the line before a familiar voice responded to her in a mix of Russian and Ukrainian. "Half kilometer north. Approximately four minutes thirty-two seconds. Two American, one Russian." There was a pause in the succinct sentences before Liliya heard Lana's voice again. "Pick-up point: 200 meters. Theft, dishonesty, greed."

"Thank you." Liliya practically slammed the phone back into its slot as she began to head north. 500 meters from her current position, in approximately four minutes and fourteen seconds, there would be a mass shooting. Guns - two American models, one Russian. The trio did not finish a transaction Liliya's gang required them to do, and now they would pay the price.

Liliya walked in a small, secluded street, nodding to her waiting associate as she gave him her groceries in exchange for a gun and ammunition.

"A new model," he informed her. Liliya flipped the weapon around in her hands, getting a feel for it. She and the unnamed associate exchanged professional nods of farewell before Liliya returned to her original path. Quickly enough, she reached her destination; she could see Makoto and the American head to a more secluded part of the pavilion just as the sounds of bullets pierced the air.
