Introduction

Image

Our storyline runs congruent to the events in Portal 2. In the beginning of the game, Chell's containment room toppled over countless others before her run in with the 'docking station'. Miraculously, or perhaps by some cruel twist of fate, several survivors dragged themselves from the wreckage. They were met with a strange new facility, much different than the one they had been welcomed to. Plants claimed the once sterile terrain, floor plates were cracked, wall panels had fallen off their hinges. The Enrichment Center was out of commission. Now, disoriented, scared and utterly alone, our test subjects must find a way to escape, a way to freedom, because they are still alive...

Character Submission: All I want is a realistic picture and a paragraph relaying pertinent information and memories. Nothing too detailed. Nothing too fancy. Why such a small character sheet? Wheatley has the answer: "Most test subjects do experience some, uh, cognitive deterioration after a few months in suspension. Now, you've been under for quite a lot longer, and its not out of the question that you might have a very minor case of serious brain damage! But, don't be alarmed, alright? Uh, although if you do feel alarmed, try to hold on to that feeling because that is the proper reaction to being told that you've got brain damage."

It was the fall that woke her up. The weightless sensation had permeated her dreams, causing an immediate adrenaline reaction. Her eyes shot open as frames of visual information came in slow motion. Flash. A falling room. Flash. Objects flying. Flash. Wall collapsing. Flash. Terminal velocity. Flash. Death upon impact. She didn't even have time to scream. All she could do was grasp at the air whipping past her. She tumbled through space, somersaulting, twisting and contorting to try and find the finger hold that would never come. And then, after the longest few seconds of her rapidly shortening lifetime, vertical motion ceased.

Horizontal travel however, continued. She had been saved by an excursion funnel. The light blue plasma carried her through the chaos that surrounded her. She wriggled around to get a better look. Towers of containment rooms, identical to hers, were being leveled by a domino effect, the source of which had gone around a corner to a different part of the facility. Men and women were spilling out of their cubes with most of them meeting the floor if there was one. She looked below her. The fall was long. Mist shrouded the bottom of the room. She looked at her destination. It was a disheveled testing chamber complete with broken wall panels, cracked floor plates and one big, red button. An alarming familiarity grew within her and a fear paralleled by little more than sudden death tightened her chest. The excursion funnel blinked off and dropped her into the test chamber.

Suddenly a scream echoed. An onslaught of science fiction sounds gave her chills. Shoop. Shoop. Boing, boing. Clang. Her heart began to race. Someone else had survived! Someone else was alive! She was soon to find out that not just one, but four others had cheated death. They arrived using a variety of technology. One rocketed through a portal. Two bounced off repulsion gel and one more still came flying off an aerial faith plate. Five. Five lucky souls, both incarnate and robotic. One man. Three women. One weighted companion cube. All with one common goal: Escape.

She barely had time to rejoice before the room began to shift and rearrange itself. In a matter of seconds, mostly everything was in place to start Enrichment Center testing. The only thing missing was, "The dual portal gun." Then, as if activated by her voice, several floor panels were lowered and replaced by five cylindrical stands that held the precious Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device. Almost on reflex she walked over to the first gun, sliding her hand around the grip. It felt right. It felt complete. Everything was there. The gun, the orange jumpsuit, the long fall boots, the button. Had she done this before? How did she know what to do? It was all so jarring.

Hoping for some reassurance, answers and alliance, she turned to her fellow survivors. "We have to get out of here. We have to get away from her."

"Stop that." Thompson mumbled, still in the sleeping state of stasis as he tumbled though the air. How dare someone pull away his blankets while he was sleeping? His pillow too? Who did they think they were? Though, the more he pawed at where his blanket might be, things seemed to become more and more odd. Why was there air rushing past his fingers? "Oh, SHI-" Eyes shooting open behind the clear frames, the man flipped over in the air, screaming in shock and fear as he found himself tumbling down, down, down. Looking above, Tom could make out the vague shape of what he could assume were replicas of where he had been the past... Wait... How long had he been asleep? Hell, why was he thinking about this now?!

His gaze shot back bellow him, eyes widening in the fear to see something appear. This only brought on a new struggle, hands crawling at the air in an effort to flip back over. This was it? Really? He hadn't even started the experiments yet and here he was about to die from some malfunction?! Though, as his eyes squeezed shut, preparing for shattered ankles, broken hips, and blood spills, nothing nearly as bad came. His feet brushed the ground. Ground! He wasn't dead, aha! His feet tumbled in front of the other, emerging not quite as gracefully as one would hope from, by some form of God's luck, a conveniently placed portal. Let's pretend he just didn't slam his jaw into the floor when he was finally able to stop.

Tom stayed there for a moment, completely still, palms flat on the ground. Did that really just happen? Did he honestly just fly through the air, only to land, perfectly alive, on the floor? Ignoring the building shakes of adrenaline after-shock, Thompson was able to push himself to his feet not very much different than some rat having just escaped the house cat by hiding under a dresser. And it didn't help to see someone else there with him, stumbling back once more before taking his correct position. Others filed in, each time surprising him (abet not as much as the first).

Okay. Okay, Thompson. He had this. He was cooler than whoever these losers were, anyway. "Obviously." He straightened his glasses, approaching the stands and grabbing his own gun, almost dropping it with his shaking hands. No one saw that, did they? No one heard the tremors in his voice, either, right? Right? "How do you plan on doing that, bonehead?

The Companion Cube landed on someone. It began running numerous scans, which made noises. Then it made a static noise. But doesn't that require....speakers? Where would it have speakers? Anyways, it then made that annoying computer noise. Finally, it finished scanning, and announced "Welcome, I am experimental Companion Cube model C-117. Note:Memory and operational status damaged. Starting internal repairs. Note: internal repairs may momentarily shut down operational status randomly. Note: This unit is experimental, therefore unique. Please handle with care. Note: list of operational features limited to those still operational. Currently available: emergency backup hover, automated internal repair, limited external repair, limited scanning, emergency lighting, databanks to files. Warning: data files corrupted, limited access, more will unlock as repairs are made. Error: this operational unit is still in testing phases, bugs may occur. Do you have a question?".

It then began floating about a foot off the ground. Clearly, this cube is much different then any average cube. The cube has the appearance of any normal cube, however was specifically designed to be more...companion like. Who knows what this new model holds.

Mia was vaguely aware of her dream. She'd been having them with some frequency now, as if something was trying to warn her. She was aware of cubes with hearts, maybe a dog as well, but she wasn't sure. There was a machine as well, or something. It spoke with soft words, trying to convince her of something. There was a quick flash of cake, and more spoken words. Everything was too jumbled for her to tell what was what though. Then, in the middle of a black and white room dream, everything disappeared. Then a jerk.

(Quick note, as I can't find a good place to put it in: Mia is aware of her dreams in the sense that she knows she's dreaming. She just doesnt know for how long she's been dreaming. Back to posting!)

Everything went dark in her dream, and suddenly she was awake, hurtling to the floor it seemed. She squawked, flailing around in a useless attempt at grabbing at something, anything, to hold onto and to stop her fall. But, of course, everything was just out of reach. She glanced back down quickly, judging that the ground wasn't coming any time soon. She looked at her surroundings, spotting a stasis chamber rounding a corner and toppling another stack of similar chambers. She blinked, a bit curious. Her head ached slightly suddenly, causing her to hold it and close her eyes.

Then she was suddenly jerked in another direction, a clang preceeding her entrance into the testing chamber. She'd apparently hit a well placed aerial faith plate or two and been rocketed into the room with the others. She peered at the other people, and the companion cube. She walked briskly over to the third gun, picking it up as if she knew it. "...Huh?" Confused the slightest, she turned to the first one that had spoken. The orange jumpsuit was familiar to her, though the woman herself was not. "Her?" Maybe she meant the machine from her dream... She'd have to ask later.

Escape she understood. "How do we do that?" She said, her voice a bit hoarse. She realized she must not have used it in ages. She was glad it was still there. She cleared her throat, which helped. "How do we do that?" She repeated. "And does this feel familiar to anyone else?"

Kendra yawned sleepily as her pod opened. She looked about subconsciously for a clock, her sleepy eyes taking a moment to adjust to the new lighting. "Wow... That couldn't have been long." She mumbled as she sat up, stretching. She gave a content sigh as her spine popped into place with a few sickening snaps. She stood, and stretched her legs, only then noticing the room. "Oh..." She said tilting her head.

Now she took the time to look at her surroundings. A test chamber? But she still had 3 months before... The realization snapped in her mind and she quickly began looking about, confused. A sudden hiss of steam brought her from her panic as a door opened. Curiosity taking over, she immediately went through. her mind focused on the strange gun on her wrist.

Re: Portal 2: Still Alive

Hello. I'm new to Roleplaygateway and I was wondering if I could join? I can't find a realistic picture to describe my character however. I was wondering if I could just use a doll maker maybe?

Re: [OOC] Portal 2: Still Alive

D'Talon: I actually have a character that is going to be joining via a second group, aka the group from the test chambers P-Body and Atlus open up. (essentially)

Re: [OOC] Portal 2: Still Alive

I Know I'm a male but I believe smart ass enough to play GLaDOS. can i reserve her

Re: [OOC] Portal 2: Still Alive

I think that'd be a fabulous idea! The groups could meet up in another test chamber, unless you wanted them to navigate separately. It could be like a race. However you want to organize it, it works for me. I'll let you make that decision. :]

Re: [OOC] Portal 2: Still Alive

Damn I didn't think that this would get off the ground so fast! I actually wanted to ask if me and another rp'er could join up as a second group. Just wondered....

Re: [OOC] Portal 2: Still Alive

We have a large enough group that I feel comfortable beginning. I'll put the first post up straight away!

Re: [OOC] Portal 2: Still Alive

Haha, as long as you can participate in the game, you can be whatever you want.

Re: [OOC] Portal 2: Still Alive
