Introduction
The land is made of rocks, boulders, and desert. But opposing bitterness is growth, therefore also on the land is rainforests, vast lakes, snow-covered mountains, orchards made of the most beautiful plants. In this land, you awaken.
Where am I? How did I get here? You will ask. But never fear. As you awaken, a hideous being walks in, its head is the shape of a balloon, with a small, thin, yellow neck, calloused skin [including the face and neck areas, sadly], it has no hands, and it smells revolting. Its voice is scraggly, baritone, and, you assume although incorrectly, male. It greets you and offers you bagels. From beyond the monster enters two lively chinchillas and a wittle bunny! [Aw!] The chinchillas [you feel an impulse to stroke their fur and try to restrain it] are lifted by the monster onto the couch. They stare at you. And after them comes two person resembling humans. Their faces are severly scarred. It's painful to look at them.
The monster hands you a modernized device that reminds you of an iPad, with a strap that resembles a belt connected to the back, with lists of names and such on it. 'He' instructs you to close your eyes and touch the screen. Fearing some deathy trick, all you receive is a small beep! from the moniter. And you're done.
What just happened?
You arrived in the Trials. It's unpleasant [like Jury Duty] yet rewarding [unlike Jury Duty]. Thing is, the most promising youngsters with age ranging from 14 to 35, have been plucked out of present-day Earth and plopped into this place called The Land. It is really beautiful, but instead of humans subduing Mother Nature, it is the opposite. "Mother Nature" roars her head every seventy-five years. The People [if you can call them that] who inhabit The Land have got the patterns down pat. There is a cycle to be discovered. Every year one element will reign in supremacy; only every seventy-five years (for there are 75 elements) do all the elements come together to create one huge galaxy-rate storm that will spread from the pulsing atmosphere of The Land and affect the entire universe, such are the powers of the elements. It creates sort of a time-warp affect. They [the old people who discovered this pattern] decided to call them the Trials. So the Eighteen are drawn towards the center of the elemental storm (it acts like a black hole); since this was in one of the smallest forests in The Land, They decided to cut it all down and replace it with lush hotels and torrist attractions and such, so the "People" of The Land could meet the tributes. They decided that the tributes would compete in "Trials," a series of challenges designed to challenge body and mind of the youngsters. The head of the challenges is Mr. Monster there, his pets, and his advisers. They turned what would've otherwise been a disaster into a game.
Was this right or wrong? Who knows?
Powers & Physical Perks
Well you're stuck in some land, and most people would find it depressing- taken away from their family and friends, at least until there is a victor- it's not likely, though. For some Trials, all of the tributes disperse and decide to live out their eternal lives in peace, and disqualify. If you disqualify, you'll live, surely, but you will never return to Earth. Chemists and such struggle to figure out how to create the warp with technology, and thus call back the disappearing youngsters but so far it hasn't been sucessful.
Physical Perks
First, your hair and feet will grow faster, due to the extreme nutrition in the food upon The Land [they haven't yet discovered some of the harshest things of life: the calories in a Whopper...or fast food in general]. You never gain or loose weight. Your body simply absorbs the food. Since there is little-to-none fat, there is no need for...lower areas of the body, or Number 1 or 2. [What?! You mean we are trapped in this godforsaken wasteland and can't have sex?! Yea, sorry, that's just the way it is. You can still be, I don't know, romantically involved. I mean, you have lips and such.] But you do sweat. Your senses are pretty enchanced. You can run faster, you are stronger. You have no belly button, no fingernails, and no beauty marks [yes, there are freckles].
Powers
The ballin' powers you've "chosen" to help you in this competition:
Shapeshifting: You are prohibited from panthers, cougars, jaguars, and wolves. These animals simply don't exist in The Land. You can pick an original animal and give it enhanced charactaristics. Ex: a frog the size of a human with vampiric teeth.
Adapting: Taken The ability to adapt is a broad range of powers, yet all concentrated into one actual 'power.' This ability to adapt simply gives you gills when you are underwater, strength when strength's required [only enough that you live, not enough to dominate, mind you], speed so you can escape quickly. It will not protect you in space, or within black holes, or if you are stuck in a tornado, or a building collasped on you. Only one person may personify this ability.
Mages: [Mages are specific, singular powers that are not as broad as the Ability to Adapt. But they are also more focused, thusfore more powerful in their areas of expertise.]
Mage One: Water Element: When posessing this ability, you will be gifted control over water. You can call upon water and such.
Side Effects: Your body temperature will be lower than others. Often you will feel more at home within water. You'll get dizzy with heights, more likely, unless you have exessive experience with heights. Climbing trees will also seem vaguely ridiculous, and you'll probably feel sympathy towards slaughtered fish and others.
Mage Two: Fire Element: This ability is popular among the tourists because of their obsense pull to danger. You can control fire. With some practice you may call up fire from thin air, yet you cannot do it all at once.
Side Effects: First, your skin will take on a slightly yellow tint, and your voice will deepen. You'll develop an adversion to the cold. [How strong it is depends on you.] You will be able to withstand more pain than others, also.
Mage Three: Earth Element: A range of powers rests under this. It has varying effects. Controling the Earth, you would think, would mean eventual domination over everything, yet you have a type of telekinesis. You can move rocks with your mind. One of the strongest abilities with this element is simply to be able to transform rock. For ex: if you are in desolate need of a knife, you can wave your hand at a rock, and [with exessive practice] it will smush itself into the form of a rock. Yet you cannot change the density, for that would violate the laws of nature. The knife will only be as hard as the rock was.
Side Effects: The side effets may include but are not limited to; hair/skin taking on reddish tint, taking on carelessness in your personality, death. If you experience any of these, press the red button on the side of the iPad you will strap onto your pants and a holographic projection will appear [probably Mr. Monster or his minions] and give you furthur instructions.
Mage Four: Clarivoyance: What is clarivoyance? The ability to fortune-tell, to predict, to understand...often these people were naturally good at assisting people. You can look into the future [although not at the results of the Trials, sucks for you], up to years at a time. Yet you have to have been to the place where you are looking, or else nothing will make sense.
Side Effects: You will often be exhausted by Seeings [as they're called], until you can build up your resistance to this side effect by experience. You'll find yourself giving evasive answers, becoming a bit mysterious, and tourists will ask you for advice often. Be careful not to overuse your powers, as by seeing and telling the future, you're changing it. You'll often be seen as wise.
Mage Five: Telepathy: You can move things with your mind.
Side Effects: Some side effects include and are not limited to: passing out from overexertion, not being able to lift a pebble one day then swinging a 400-pound dragon around effortlessly in the next, failure to improve, death.

The thought, unlike all other things, actually improved his mood. He moved with an unusual grace, thanking his impertinent servants for their "impeccible service." They nearly rolled their eyes; their familiarity with the Guide's mood around this time of year always got them tips and pieces of his past they would've never received if otherwise.
'He', as it were, dressed in rather male clothes. It was better to be accepting of the inquiries of the public than to pretend otherwise, though truly his kind had no gender.
He ate his breakfast; prepping himself for the highest level of responsibility, the coaching of the tributes during the Trials.
Opening the door of the hotel, he strode into the hallway. The tributes would be waking soon on their own. It was best to be prepared.

Whatever.
Bri sighed as she fiddled with a strand of her hair, now, to think about where she was...But she didn't really want to think about where she was anyway. Decisions decisions.. Bri smirked, she was thinking to herself. But didn't she think to herself all the time? Okay okay, back up Bri.. She told herself, You'll end up getting so wound up in a mental conversation you won't think about joining a real one... Then again, that was what usually happened, shouldn't she be used to that?
No, not at all.
