Appearance:

Short dishwater blonde hair frames a pale face, hidden behind thick-framed glasses. These glasses are just reading glasses, but she wears them most of the time, as she expects to be reading most of the time. Beth always makes sure to wear suitable clothes for her secretary job, button-down shirt, black shoes, dark grey pencil skirt and tie. Beyond work, she tends to dress like an old man, with cuddly sweaters and cardigans, hardier button down shirts, slacks, and sensible shoes. These all in various shades of brown, red, and other neutral colours. Beth is fairly tall, though she has a touch more muscle than some other girls may have, so it balances out somewhat. If people cared to look, they’d likely notice that, other than the obvious pen and bag calluses, she has larger ones on her left palm, leftover from her diligent practice in swordsmanship. She is 19 years old.

Personality:

Beth is quiet, reserved, but magnificently loyal. She doesn’t show much emotion at the best of times, and even less if she feels her feelings will cause someone else undue stress. She puts others above herself, trying to see to their happiness and comfort long before her own. Befriending her only seems to give her even more incentive not to burden those close to her with her own feelings, unless circumstances force her hand. She has made herself into a guardian in every sense of the word, strong enough to fend off a physical threat, wise enough to muddle through an intellectual threat, soft enough to support during an emotional threat. Though, really, people only see that if they can catch it past her unemotional mask, or battle their own way through. She tries to remain professional at all times, in all things, keeping herself on a tight leash. She rarely expects much from other people, memories of working in a fast food chain making her somewhat cynical when it comes to competence. Beth is fairly accepting of her position as a guardian, though she has often worried about who she is going to be guarding, if she’d have to do things she didn’t want to do, if the person she’d be guarding would turn out to be a horrible person. Beth hopes that, one day, she’ll find the kind of love her parents found, one that nothing can bring down, supporting in all situations. She somewhat doubts it though. Beth doesn’t like feeling as though she doesn’t deserve something, preferring to get things with her own hard work.

Skills/Abilities:

Beth has an encyclopaedic knowledge of history, castles, and the forging and handling of swords. She also has an above average grasp of computers and organization, useful for a secretary. She is, lastly, an accomplished swordswoman.

History: Beth’s family have never been far above the poverty mark. She didn’t grow up with many friends, focusing on her studies, especially those into history. She’d already long displayed an interest in the medieval era, especially swordsmanship and forging, when her parents informed her of her role as a guardian, at 11. Her parents always looked stressed, due to their money troubles, and they only looked more so after telling their daughter about her position. Looking in from the doorway one night was the first time Beth swore to herself that she’d make it better. She has since sworn that to herself at least once a week. She managed to pick up swordsmanship soon after that day, though by coincidence. A local metal artist who was friends with her father made her a sword for one Christmas, and she took to teaching herself when she wasn't working. She still has the same sword. When she was 12, she got her first job, delivering newspapers, then moving on into fast food, all the while being a diligent student. Her parents have often voiced concerns over how little she sleeps. They moved to this city after Beth got a scholarship to the local college for history. As soon as they had moved in, the three Wardens found jobs, Beth as a secretary for a medical company. She quickly heard rumours of the CEO’s son, and made a point to avoid the gossip. She knew as soon as she clapped eyes on him, from across the room, behind her paperwork, pretty much invisible. Once he was out of earshot, she buried her face in her hands and muttered one thing.

“Oh god, not him.”

Family:

Image
Mother – Hannah Warden (Maiden name Karoll): She’s kind and gentle. She used to be very much like Beth, but opened up a good deal during her courtship with Will. She works in a supermarket.

Image
Father - Will Warden: he’s very brash, and Beth for her protective streak from him. He too is a sufferer of blaming himself for what the rest of the world does to those close to him. He delivers car parts.

Theme Song:

Guardian, by Alanis Morissette

You, you who has smiled when you’re in pain
You who has soldiered through the profane
They were distracted and shut down
So why, why would you talk to me at all
such words were dishonorable and in vain
their promise as solid as a fog
and where was your watchman then

I’ll be your keeper for life as your guardian
I’ll be your warrior of care your first warden
I’ll be your angel on call, I’ll be on demand
The greatest honor of all, as your guardian

you, you in the chaos feigning sane
You who has pushed beyond what’s humane
Them as the ghostly tumbleweed
And where was your watchman then

I’ll be your keeper for life as your guardian
I’ll be your warrior of care your first warden
I’ll be your angel on call, I’ll be on demand
The greatest honor of all, as your guardian

now no more smiling mid-crestfall
No more managing unmanageable
No more holding still in the hailstorm
Now enter your watchwoman
I’ll be your keeper for life as your guardian
I’ll be your warrior of care your first warden
I’ll be your angel on call, I’ll be on demand
The greatest honor of all, as your guardian
