Adrien King

Am I crazy or does money ROCK!

0 · 2,902 views · located in Psy Prep

a character in “Psy Prep”, as played by Jadebud98

Description

Name: Adrien King

Appearance:
Image
(A more accurate picture of him than the last one) Adrien has black hair and green eyes and he stands at around 5"7. His usual outfit consists of a dark blue coat, sweater vest, a shirt, and a tie. He also wears gloves and recently, a scarf given to him by Chandler. When it's more hot than usual he wears just normal T-shirts and shorts, etc. However, he does have a lot of designer clothes. You will almost never see Adrien not smiling.
Age: 16

Power: Illusions.

Sexual Preference: Unsure.

Personality: Adrien is a very extroverted person with a desire to have fun. Adrien at first was going through a cycle of adoption centers and foster parents until he gave up, running away to live on the streets. Homeless, and without any one to take care of him, Adrien had to go through life fending for himself. He only recently utilized his powers to create dollar bills and so he's new to having money and is loving it. The problem with his power is that when he uses them they get extremely out of control. He gets a thrill out of adventure and trying new things. He also enjoys playing pranks and scaring others, this sometimes activates his powers though causing damage to those he's playing a joke on.

Adrien is new to the concept of people, so getting along with others may not be a breeze. He'll probably seem a bit overwhelming to people he wants to be friends with because he just wants to see what it's like on the other side. He is also a curious person, and that curiosity can cause problems as well.

Adrien's desire for friendship is probably derived from the fact that he has felt as though others never cared about him throughout his life. He despised the feeling of loneliness that he had to go through so he wants to make up for it now, and experience the fullest out of it.

So begins...

Zoe

Chandler didn't respond well to her reaction obviously. Zoe curled herself in her blankets, closing her eyes and willing herself to sleep. She just blew her chance of having an actual friend. "Oh well, I haven't even seen what he acts like with the others, probably like a total idiot..." Zoe thought to herself. But she was only lying to herself; she knew that she wanted a friend...to be friends with Chandler, but she was just too scared of the consequences.

Adrien

"You guys go ahead," Adrien said while yawning, "I'm too tired to eat." Not only that but Adrien thought that he might as well leave the two alone or whatever. He assumed they would be back soon though because it was really early in the morning, probably even past three...

It had been two weeks since that day. Throughout the course of those two weeks the students of Psy Prep went through training; strengthening their powers and giving them more control over them.

At 7:00 a.m. an announcement went off in the school: "Hello, students; today you'll be receiving another mission so please report outside at once."

Zoe

Zoe woke up yawning groggily. It had been a pretty long time since they had their last mission so she wasn't sure if she was ready for it. At least now objects wouldn't break around her when she was only slightly frustrated...

Zoe got up, picking out her clothes for the day: a black pullover hoodie, dark blue pants, and black combat boots. Once she was done picking them out she went into the bathroom to quickly change. Her hair was a mess as usual even after brushing it; she had attempted to cut it over the week but she failed miserably and her hair was sadly uneven. Exiting the bathroom she turned to Chandler; she was about to say something but decided against it; she wasn't sure exactly how they were over the past two weeks. So, she left the room by herself, starting to make her way outside.

Adrien

When Adrien heard the announcement he was overwhelmed with joy, it had been so long since they had a mission and he was so excited. He jumped out of bed quickly retrieving his clothes: a light blue t-shirt, dark blue pants, black sneakers, and the scarf that Chandler had gave him. He blundered around the room excitedly turning to Danny. "Hurry up, we're gonna have a mission!" He said enthusiastically, remembering that Danny never went on a mission. "They're really awesome and fun so we better get outside quickly," he said, eagerly anticipating the mission.

Danny yawned, the last vestiges of sleep desperately clinging to him. He was never a morning person. "Miss'n?" He repeated groggily, reaching blindly for the side table by his bed. "Wh' time izzit?" A quick check of his cellphone confirmed it was 5:12 AM. He looked up. The sun was shining merrily through the window. He had to stop bringing his phone with him into stopped time, especially now he could stay there longer. On that note, classes weren't all that bad. Arian made them sound like torture or shock sessions, but so far they'd just learned better control and a minimum of passing out. Okay, there was that one time with the fish, but that was a bad idea from the start...

He knew he was lying back, mentally rambling in the hopes of staving off full waking for a few more minutes, but he could feel it already. He would get no more sleep this morning. On that note: How did Adrien always have so much energy in the mornings? It was like the guy had coffee in his blood. Black. With extra caffeine. All this he contemplated while trying to get out of bed and, as happened about fifty per cent of the time, simply rolling off and onto the floor. At least the impact woke him up.

After taking ten seconds to shower (well, ten seconds for everyone else - he'd had to stop and start time a lot to work with the shower water), brush, shave, apply deodorant, eventually decide against body spray, dry off and grab his usual ensemble of faded, blue jeans, a DragonForce t-shirt, sneakers and a green hoodie for the weather, he returned to normal time considerably refreshed. On his way out, he glanced at Adrien and asked "So what's a mission, anyway? Sounds like some kinda super-spy stuff."

((Silent, they're all still in the school.))

Adrien

"Hm, how do you explain what missions are?" Adrien asked thinking to himself. "Well, it hasn't been anything like spy stuff but we basically have a task to complete," Adrien said, remembering the wilderness. "We had to survive in the wilderness," Adrien said. "Let's go!" He said excitedly opening the door, noticing everyone he smiled happily. "Hey you guys," Adrien said waving gladly, everyone had been happier than usual lately...it was different but he was glad. He wondered what the mission was going to be like and hoped it would be as fun as the last one but less dangerous.

Zoe

Zoe noticed Chandler waving her over...she wasn't sure exactly whether or not she wanted to come though. She still didn't trust the trio of Hallie, Mikhail, and Zara, she was positive that they were doing something dangerous in the school and assumed that one of them pulled the fire alarm to do it without being noticed. But why? She assumed that they kind of forgot the whole closet situation, probably not, but they hadn't mentioned it. She decided that she might as well go with them, she didn't want the three of them to be suspicious of her...when she made it to the group she wasn't sure exactly what to do, so she just nodded slightly and tried to just blend into the crowd. Eventually she just ended up on the outskirts of it, leaning on the wall waiting for them to start moving. Everyone was being extremely friendly lately and the school was becoming less and less murderous and suspicious. Maybe she could open up a bit more...she decided that the only people she could possibly trust would be Chandler, Danny, Adrien, and maybe even Arian, though James wasn't in the trio he could be giving them information with his scrying abilities...and she didn't exactly like Adrien...and she didn't really talk to Danny or Arian...or even Chandler for that matter...thoughts kept rushing through Zoe's head one by one, she wished that they would stop, but they just wouldnt...

"So, what you're saying is..." Danny considered this, then brightened up immediately. "We're going camping!" He grinned like a kid who'd been promised candy. "I love camping! Haven't gone in years, though. Well except that one school trip, but the fire kind of ruined that. Not my fault, I swear," he added hastily. With the stories he told the others were beginning to think he was at fault for a lot of things that went on at his old school. But how was he to know raccoons were attracted to Old Spice? "You think I'll need new pants?" He wondered aloud, looking down at his faded jeans. Comfortable, stylish, but practical and survivalist? Not so much. Less than a heartbeat later he was wearing camo-patterned cargo pants. As a bonus, they matched his green hoodie. "Okay, ready for anything!"

All thoughts of practical fashion were driven from his mind when he rounded a corner and saw his posse. "Guys!" He yelled happily. He was always happy to see them. For the first few days, as introductions were being made, he had been all but ecstatic. Everyone seemed pretty cool - a little silent, some of them, but cool. And he'd never had a posse. He liked that word. Posse. He'd had a group of people he hung out with back at his old school, but they were generally just delinquents who hung out together because no one else liked them, and they didn't really like each other either. This place was better. It had a posse. His posse!

Even James was really cool, which made it impossible to hate him. Cool people were too cool to hate. They ended up getting along great. Then again, lately it seemed there was no reason to hate him either - he and Arian barely talked, nevermind acting like a couple. What a relief. And the others? He got along with them, too - there really wasn't anyone he didn't like. Okay, some of them (Zoe, mainly) he didn't talk to all that much, but they had no problems with each other. Maybe he should talk to her more. And Chandler was crazy funny! He kept changing his clothes. Like, teleport out, change, teleport back completely different.

Rather than keep mentally rambling about how totally awesome his new life was, Danny returned to the present, which was awesome. Just about everyone was here, also awesome. He rubbed his palms together, thinking about his first real mission, which would be awesome. "So what's all this I hear about camping?" He asked of those present, grinning almost manically. And awesomely.

Arian looked around to everyone and wondered what the fuss was about. Sure a mission is a big deal, but was it just a sham? She felt out of the loop but once Danny spoke up, she really felt confused. "What? We're going camping? I thought this was a mission."

She examined the conversations around her, none of which were actually beneficial. Arian caught James' eye and smiled. She hadn't seen much of anyone the past couple weeks. They had all been training hard and didn't have much time for socialization. She had missed James even though he didn't really seem to want much but fun from her. Danny, on the other hand, was the opposite. He flirted with her and, so far, was pretty chill. She didn't know if she could get over all the time with James though, even if it hadn't been...emotionally intimate.

James

He shrugged to Mikhail's question, taking his crystal in hand just as the rest of the group joined. He laughed, giving a high-five to Danny and bumping fists with Adrien. It was cool how well they all got along now. Strange...but cool. It was then that he realized they had been together nearly a month, except for Danny and Chandler. But they had been here for most of that time.

His eyes flitted to Arian briefly.

Then he refocused on the crystal and concentrated carefully on his goal. He wondered if the school even realized what his power could do and that if he strengthened his mind enough, there would be nothing they could hide. Or could they? Was there a way they could hide stuff from even his power?

It seemed likely at that point when a mental blockage had him stumbling a bit until he knocked into Chandler. "Whoa..." he whispered, not liking the drop in his gut. "I can't...get anything..."

Ruffling his bronze hair, he eyed Mikhail. They had been on good terms recently and he knew he played the role of leader well. This was concerning and he saw the same concern reflected back to him from Mikhail, Hallie and Zara. Even Chandler had raised eyebrows.

"That's not normal," the many scraved young man commented. "Right? They shouldn't be able to...block you...unless..."

"What?" James asked, tucking the crystal protectively into his shirt, the warmth pulsing against his bare chest.

Chandler scratched his neck. "What if they're training you to only gather information on stuff they want you to gather. Not just anything."

Hallie's eyes widened, her hands curling into fists. "Don't say that," she told him darkly, wiping some white hair from her shadowed eyes. James felt a pulse and read that she was nervous about this school still. Very nervous. Her doubts fueled his own now.

"Maybe this mission isn't a good idea," he commented, glancing around. "All for opting out?" He raised his hand.

Chandler's frown twisted a bit until he gave a shrug and put on a forced smile. "Well...c'mon, I'm probably just being stupid. That's what I do," he laughed and nodded to Danny and Adrien. "You guys aren't nervous right?"

Somehow Danny's good mood was starting to seem a bit premature. Great, he thought, this is where the conspiracy stuff starts, isn't it? Soon we'll find out we were lab rats running a giant maze, or this is a simulation and we've spent our entire lives in pods, or we're in a dream inside a dream, or- He cut off the rambling there. He really needed to learn to focus better. Ironically, the classes should have been helping with that...

Returning to what was, on the balance of probability, probably reality, he muttered in response "Well, I wasn't until just now. Now I'm all paranoid." When he realized that the Matrix was starting to look eerily prescient to him, he shook his head. That was going too far.

"Okay, look, new plan: We go on this mission/camping whatever, we stick together and watch each others' backs, keep our eyes open. Long as we're looking out for each other, the school's got a lot more than just one psychic kid to deal with, it's got a host of trained psychics. Sort of trained. Good enough. If things don't turn out well on their own, we'll kick'em in the shins until they do. All in favor?" He put on his best cocky grin and raised his hand, closed fist and all. It looked cooler that way.

Mikhail

The Russian chuckled at Danny's spiel. "Is there any other plan than that?" he asked, "Obviously we stick together. We did the same in the woods. Well...for the most part. It doesn't take a genius to know that staying together is better than spreading out."

James's comment was definitely unnerving though. He really couldn't read everything with his crystal?

"I don't know if I agree with Chandler, though..." he said, "About the school training thing. Perhaps it's an actual block the school has set up, versus some sort of conditioning thing? It's not like you can train a crystal to see only certain things, without actually tampering with it, right?"

"Or maybe your ability just hasn't progressed enough to access certain things," Zara suggested. James didn't seem to fond of that idea.

Mikhail shrugged, "Either way, hopefully it's not something of too much concern."

Not that Mikhail wasn't worried. But, as a veteran of missions himself, both for the school and for the MID, he knew the worst thing to happen would be doubts on the actual mission. It was fine to be nervous, so long as it was contained. But going into a mission with a terrible mindset would only cause disaster. It was better to go in excited. Mindset was everything.

Mikhail rubbed his arm on Hallie's arm. She seemed pretty against Chandler's suggestion, and he felt her shaking slightly. "Heyyy," he said, leaning his head against hers. With a smile, he asked. "How am I feeling?"

Hallie

"Optimistic," she shot back, a small smile growing on her lips. It was hard to remain so worried with his smile directed on her.

James went on to say, "Yeah...maybe it's because we're not near the teachers. I can read you guys pretty well right now." His eyes flickered to Mikhail briefly, then Zara. "We should head out and find them."

So they did. Outside the chill of the winter morning hit their faces hard, but at least it wasn't snowing yet. Hallie sighed, looking up to the blue gray sky. She did like snow, at least how it looked. Trudging through the stuff was a different story. She wasn't a fan of being cold either. Shivering already, she huddled closer to Mikhail's taller figure and followed James and the others out.

It didn't seem anyone was out to greet them, at least on this side of the school. She wondered if they were supposed to meet somewhere else. Or maybe they would be waiting for another half hour. Grumbling incoherently, she closed her eyes and stuffed her hands in her pockets. Stupid cold.

"You okay?" Chandler asked, turning to stand right in front of Hallie, head tilted. Hallie caught sight of his earring and rolled her eyes a little, remembering the little thing from back home. He wore it only on "special occasions." She supposed today was special.

"Cold," she answered acidly. It was obvious, but she knew she was still tired so added gentler, "Didn't check the weather on my phone before leaving."

Chandler nodded, then vanished.

Sighing, she looked up to Mikhail and laughed a little. She knew what Chandler was doing. And sure enough, hardly a minute later, he popped back into existence with a blue jacket in hand. "Here, you can wear this."

"Thanks," she replied, taking the jacket and pulling it on hurriedly. Already she felt better. Leaning into Mikhail, she sent a grateful smile to Chandler and sighed with relief. "Much better."

He laughed and gave a salute. "Happy to help." Then he gave a bow.

Hallie rolled her eyes yet again, laughing. "The hell was that?"

"Manners," he insisted, though his eyes showed just how ridiculous he knew it was. He laughed too, which brought up Hallie's spirits more. Perhaps they were being a bit paranoid about this mission business. She wasn't going to let go of her paranoia altogether, that was just stupid. But she pasted on a smile and held Mikhail's hand lightly as she gazed around everyone and felt out the nerves and forced optimism they all felt. Her head twinged a bit from the effort, but it was nothing like before. Her abilities were much stronger now. That was reason enough to feel at least a little confident.

Daniel

Well, it wasn't the enthusiastic response Danny was hoping for. He'd been imagining a lot of fist pumping and 'Aye!'s and maybe someone quoting a war movie. Didn't have to be any specific movie, just something catchy. Still, at least a few people had warmed up to the idea. And speaking of warm, Danny suddenly found himself wishing he'd thought to wear a coat. Maybe a parka. And ski pants. In fact, a whole snow suit sounded really great about now. He shivered, gripping his arms and biting down to stop his teeth chattering.

Over the last few days he'd mostly tried to avoid going outdoors at all. Pretty much since the snow started falling. Of course they had winters in Denver, but never this much winter. Where was this place anyway, Scandinavia? For a moment he considered retracting his vote and agreeing with the 'opt out and go get hot chocolate' plan. Well, no one had mentioned hot chocolate yet, but he would. Unfortunately, after his whole speech he was basically committed to the plan. Suddenly I understand why so many guys are afraid of commitment, he thought. It leads to stuff like this.

To take his mind off the feeling of his toes going numb (why, why, why had he worn sneakers knowing there would be a mission today?) he tried to imagine what the team would do in various situations he'd seen in videogames. Confronted by a squad of angry, machine-gun wielding robots? He'd stop time, grab Zoe so she could act and she'd have fifteen minutes to crush them at her leisure. Complicated puzzle lock? Well, assuming they couldn't just kick down the door, James would probably scry the answer. Stuck out in the cold, dark night with no food or shelter? ...Maybe Mikhail could teleport others with him now? He could get them all back to the dorms. Or the cafeteria. Failing that, maybe someone here was an ex-scout.

Zara

For once, Zara was probably the only one not fazed about conspiracy. She was too stubborn to let go of her excitement.

She hopped up and down outside, both out of anticipation and to keep herself warm. She felt her phone buzz and she pulled it out, smile on her face as she checked it. Her smile just grew wider when she realized it was Trick.

Hurriedly, she read his email. Gone were the depressing, advice-seeking ones from weeks ago. Now they just sent each other little things about how each other were doing, as well as funny things to lift each other's spirits. The winter was arriving in Russia, and Zara knew it was about ten times colder than here. A few laughs was enough to keep each other going. The emails also implied that Trick still had some feelings towards her, and they flirted casually, even though Zara didn't exactly know what she felt. Besides, they were thousands of miles away, and Trick seemed resigned to the fact that any sort of relationship wouldn't work out between them, and had graciously not brought it up. But Zara could tell anyways, and with her power, she could even find the exact lines that gave it away.

As she responded, Mikhail's voice perked up. "Who ya talkin' to?"

"Trick," she replied.

Mikhail nodded. "How's he doing?"

"Fine," Zara was too busy searching for funny pictures of cats to give lengthy answers.

Silence, and then "Do you think you could ask him how Sasha's doing? I've been emailing him every week, but haven't heard back yet."

Zara gulped, and nodded a little too quickly. "O-okay," she said, a bit softly, "Will do."

Mikhail didn't seem to pick up on her nervousness. Or, even if he did, he was quickly distracted by a wild bird poop that had suddenly careened down to the earth towards him. "Gross!" he shouted, but laughed, "Though I suppose in Japan, that's good luck. Ugh...Zara, napkin?" Zara reached into her bag and pulled one out for him, stomach still turning from his mention of Sasha. Mikhail wiped the poo off and went on to tease the others with it, holding it dangerously close to Hallie before threatening Chandler with it. Zara peered back at her phone, unable to type more in the stupid email, and finally put it back in her pocket. Well, there went her mood!

Arian listened to all the conversations, trying to grasp everyone's ideas. They were going to have to go on the mission, chancing someone's life with the punishment wasn't something anyone wanted to deal with. Plus, she was pretty sure she was going to loose her mind if she didn't leave. Looking out the window, she could see her bright blue sportscar just sitting in the parking lot. Her thoughts connected with memories of drifitng corners and idiotic street races. Either way having so much power in her hands made her want to leave right now.

Turning her head back to the group, Arian sighed. She didn't have the energy to argue with people this morning. She just wanted to hear what they had to do and hoped it wasn't something that would drive her over the edge. The last few weeks had definetly helped her control her powers, but using them on complete strangers was a different story. Placing her hand on her side, she shook her head at her stupidity of the past years.

When time began again a teacher eventually came outside to greet the students. It was Ms. Cortez. She glared at Arian malevolently remembering their past encounter and turned to the rest of the group. "Okay, for this mission we've received word from our associates that two of their agents have been ambushed," Ms. Cortez said gauging the reactions of the students. "Now, they're stuck in a mansion about ten miles from civilization surrounded by a forest, so you're wilderness survival skills will come in handy," she said disregarding the students who arrived after the mission. "So, your mission is to protect these two agents from whatever may be attacking them until word from our associates comes, and when the word comes you'll take them to a rendezvous after they're picked up you may come back," Ms. Cortez said. Suddenly a helicopter came from the sky landing a few feet away from everyone. "Ms. Mione, the teacher flying the helicopter will be your supervisor," Ms. Cortez said beginning to become even more serious. "If she finds you to be a threat to the mission she has orders to restrain you, if you fight back she has permission to kill, are we clear? Now get into the helicopter, you'll arrive at the mansion in about an hour," Ms. Cortez finished, leaving the students and entering the school as they entered the helicopter.

Zoe

Zoe didn't know how exactly to react to all of this. She decided she was just going to stay quiet and follow orders, she hadn't got any punishments yet and she wanted to keep it that way. She entered the helicopter, moving to the back; she glanced at Ms. Mione slightly, the teacher looked odd, with tied up silver hair, maroon seeming eyes and a perfect complexion. The teacher was quiet, not making a sound as the students piled in. The teacher kind of gave her the creeps and the fact that she was allowed to kill them at any time didn't help that.

Adrien

All the stress over the mission was putting Adrien down. They were all having so much fun, but this mission was starting to bring up everyone's paranoia and it kind of got to him. Adrien brushed it off though, he was going to enjoy this mission whether he liked it or not. In fact, they were going to meet two more new people! He wondered what they were going to be like and how strong the enemy was going to be.

Arian had entered time again and could already feel the adrenaline coursing through her veins. This mission sounded easy enough but an ambush wasn't the greatest senario to be thrown into. She entered the helicopter and strapped herself into a seat. She heard someone's voice break the silence and turned her head to see Danny. Unstrapping herself and jumping out of her seat, she quickly grapped Danny. "That's probably not the best idea..."

After sitting him in the seat next to her, she took a deep breath. "The teachers aren't the most homely around here. It's easier to not talk to them, but obey them. They can actually kill us off now that we have missions..." Turning to see the people around her, she wondered why they were all needed for one mission. She didn't understand it, surely she could stop a group of people from killing them, then just have Danny swoop in and hide the agents. So why have all of them?

Speaking up, she smiled and clapped her hands together. "Okay. So we know we're being flown into an ambush. Game plan anyone?"

Daniel

It was beginning to sink in that Daniel Chance could very well die on this mission. That was... new. His life had been in actual, genuine, no-jokes-no-exaggeration danger two, three times before if you counted the haddock incident, but those had all just been accidents. Random stuff. He'd never been attacked by anything more intimidating than a schoolyard bully before in his life. Did the same idea work here? Could he just stop time, beat up an armed, trained assailant of unknown skill and danger level with a stick, then restart time and punch him once to make it look like he was just that strong? Almost certainly not.

Suddenly this whole mission thing seemed serious. Not like training, where there had been unnamed horrible punishments in theory and nothing to worry about that he found out, but actual, life-or-death serious. Was this what Arian meant when she said this school was dangerous? Yeah, probably. Definitely. Why didn't he listen? He'd thought she was exaggerating, or he hadn't taken it seriously, or something, and they hadn't run away when he totally could've gotten them to her car and just drove off into the moonlight and was he hyperventilating?

Yeap. Definitely hyperventilating.

Mikhail

Mikhail followed after Zara and Hallie into the helicopter. Well, this was familiar. He pulled slightly on Zara's foot and gave her a somewhat conspiratorial smile when she turned to look at him. She smirked. Yep. Good times.

In his head, Mikhail did a head-count of who exactly knew that he and Zara had been spies. There was Hallie. Well, she only knew about him, but she probably assumed that Zara was also one. And then James. Did Arian know? Well, if she did, she didn't make a big deal about it. Hopefully she wouldn't. That left Chandler, Danny, Adrien and Zoe out of the loop. That was good. Even if Mikhail wasn't a spy anymore--at least not technically--it wouldn't do for everyone to know that info. Then loyalties and trust would be tested, and it would all break apart.

He buckled his seat belt and clasped Hallie's fingers in his own, grinning at her. Danny looked about ready to puke, and Arian was already shooting out questions.

"The game plan, for starters, is to not get caught," Mikhail said, already starting to take over the leadership position.

"Easier said than done," Zara quipped, putting on her own seat belt.

"True. But it's the best strategy. Be cautious. Work smarter, not harder. Be fast. And above all, we need to work as a team. No one-man-show business. As Danny suggested earlier, we need to stick together. Help each other out. Don't let anyone get left behind. We all move together, as a group, and if we have to split up, then we do so in pairs or little groups of three," Mikhail stopped to let his information sink in. He didn't want to overload them. Lastly, he added with a smile, "And of course, have fun. That always helps."

Chandler

The helicopter interrupted Mikhail's continuous game of shove-bird-poop-in-people's-faces-even-while-the-strict-teacher-is-talking. The whipping winds had him shielding his eyes. Chandler made sure his scarves were in place and walked beside James as they made their way closer to the helicopter.

"Shit's gettin' real," he shouted with a laugh. James grinned back with a nod, hand on his chest over his crystal no doubt.

They piled in, a tight fit for such a small flying vehicle. But he took a seat on the edge, hardly afraid of seeing how high they were climbing through the air. Strapped in across from Zoe, he waved slightly and shouted, "You ready, roomie?" He wanted to be friends, at least more civil than they had been. Maybe she didn't like people, but Chandler knew that the group here wasn't just 'people.' She had to loosen up.

James

Strapped in between Chandler and Arian, James felt a warmth surge against his chest when his arm bumped Arian's. His crystal sent him flitting images, ones involving time stop...Danny...a kiss...two kisses...James smiled a little to himself, shaking his head and turning to face Chandler. He was sure Arian felt awkward. Or at least didn't want to talk to him. Seemed she moved on anyway. Happy for her, he let out a sigh and leaned back.

Hallie and Mikhail climbed in the front with Zara, leaving Adrien, Zoe, Arian, Danny, Chandler and himself in the back six seats. It was really a squeeze.

Hallie

Mikhail's little game wasn't as amusing to her as he probably hoped. Scrunching her face, she laughed a little, but backed away from him with her hands shoved in the pockets of the jacket. "Don't. Seriously." Not that she could do anything, but yeah...he needed to stop.

Ms. Cortez, resident bitch, described their mission. Hallie felt a bit useless after hearing it, but followed Mikhail and the others. The helicopter sent cold winds into her face and she brought her hands up, cursing as she moved. In no time they were strapped in right behind their pilot, Mione? She looked young, her hair not matching her age at all, but Hallie didn't really care. This lady was just a supervisor. Taking Mikhail's hand, she leaned her head on his shoulder (kind of due to the straps) and let out a sigh. "Here we go," she muttered, barely heard over the loud blades above them.

Mikhail began talking about strategies like the leader he was which made her smile. She didn't pay attention much though, eyes trained on their surroundings, waiting for them to fall away as they rose into the air.

Daniel

Danny's head snapped up when he heard his name. He wasn't sure of the details - something about 'don't get caught' and 'stick together' and 'Danny' and he'd missed the rest over the sound of him breathing like a hummingbird. Swallowing heavily, he forced himself to calm down, failed spectacularly, and instead forced himself to slow his breathing, which was easier. More words were said. He didn't really catch them.

He was strapped in to his seat. When did that happen? He was seated between Arian and Zoe and it was very cramped. James was on Arian's other side. Huh. That had to be awkward for her, stuck between the two of them. Even he had to figure out by now she was as confused as anyone about her own love life, especially because she'd told him she was. He'd also figured out by basically the same reasoning that she was no longer with James. Cool. No hiding stuff. Did that mean she was with him now? They were really very close. Should he take her hand? Nah, not the time. Maybe on the return trip. If they survived...

Great. Thinking about relationship stuff had just about distracted him from the impending doom right up until that point. Now he was back to being scared out of his wits. It was probably obvious to those around him, too, judging by the fact that he was, uncharacteristically enough, not at all smiling. In fact he looked downright terrified, all huddled up and squirming. Also he was starting to hyperventilate again.

Daniel

As incredibly weird and unsettling as it was to admit it, the scary lady was right. He was freaking out and had to calm down. Great advice, but how- Wait. What did he normally do when he felt scared? He stopped time, took a few minutes to collect himself and came back refreshed. Right. Why hadn't he thought of that before? Because he was scared, obviously, but still.

He tried it now. Time stopped, and there was a sweater between him and the girls on either side of him, so they didn't get dragged into it. He hyperventilated a bit more, then took a few deep, calming breaths and looked at it carefully. Again, the scary lady who might kill him was right. If he freaked out in the field, he was a liability. Even videogames knew that. Hell, even Hollywood knew it. Then again, he was genuinely powerful. If they got ambushed, he could literally be the difference between life and death. And they were basically walking into an ambush.

So it boiled down to one question: Was the team in greater danger with or without him?

When put like that, the only logical choice seemed to be to bow out. After all, even with his powers, he'd probably freak out and forget to use them. He'd be worse than nothing, he'd get them all killed. But just as he was about to go back to normal time and ask to stay behind, a memory flashed through his mind. His mother, dying. He had begged and cried and prayed that she wouldn't die, and all the while he'd been completely helpless to do anything else. Now his friends were about to walk into real danger and he had a chance to help them, the power to help them. Was he just going to abandon them to that? If they all died and he could have saved them...

No. That wouldn't happen. If there was one thing that Daniel Chance was more afraid of even than death, it was losing everyone in his new life. Chandler, Adrien, Zara, James, Arian, everyone... He wasn't going to let them down like that. So, filled with new resolve, he sat up straight in his seat and returned to normal time. The world around him was unchanged, as always, but he saw it through new eyes now. And... he heard something too, among the rush of sound that accompanied returning to reality. "...something like that's for the weak."

Danny turned toward the voice and found it to be Zoe's, much to his surprise. He hadn't heard her talk a lot before. Sometimes, yeah, but usually in really short, really rude sentences. In fact he couldn't even remember... It occurred to him just then, and he tapped her on the shoulder, endeavoring to smile a more serious smile than usual. "I know it's not a great time," he said, "but it just occurred to me I never really introduced myself to you. Might not get another chance." He extended his hand as if to shake hers. "Danny Chance. New kid."
