Adrien King

Am I crazy or does money ROCK!

a character in “Psy Prep”, as played by Jadebud98

Description

Name: Adrien King

Appearance:
Image
(A more accurate picture of him than the last one) Adrien has black hair and green eyes and he stands at around 5"7. His usual outfit consists of a dark blue coat, sweater vest, a shirt, and a tie. He also wears gloves and recently, a scarf given to him by Chandler. When it's more hot than usual he wears just normal T-shirts and shorts, etc. However, he does have a lot of designer clothes. You will almost never see Adrien not smiling.
Age: 16

Power: Illusions.

Sexual Preference: Unsure.

Personality: Adrien is a very extroverted person with a desire to have fun. Adrien at first was going through a cycle of adoption centers and foster parents until he gave up, running away to live on the streets. Homeless, and without any one to take care of him, Adrien had to go through life fending for himself. He only recently utilized his powers to create dollar bills and so he's new to having money and is loving it. The problem with his power is that when he uses them they get extremely out of control. He gets a thrill out of adventure and trying new things. He also enjoys playing pranks and scaring others, this sometimes activates his powers though causing damage to those he's playing a joke on.

Adrien is new to the concept of people, so getting along with others may not be a breeze. He'll probably seem a bit overwhelming to people he wants to be friends with because he just wants to see what it's like on the other side. He is also a curious person, and that curiosity can cause problems as well.

Adrien's desire for friendship is probably derived from the fact that he has felt as though others never cared about him throughout his life. He despised the feeling of loneliness that he had to go through so he wants to make up for it now, and experience the fullest out of it.

So begins...

Smiling Anna placed another cup of tea on the table for Adrein once he returned to the room. It was pleasant to have her friends back around her, especially now that so many others were gone, Sipping her tea she listened as they spoke about the others, taking in what she could about all that had happened while she was ill.
It worried her that James had seemed ill as well, and she made a mental note to visit him, and maybe bring him some tea if he wasn't feeling better wuite yet.

It seemed that possibly the others had returned, with a sigh of relief she smiled. Knowing that they were okay was a great gift to her, even though she knew very few of them personally.
"Sorry if it's a bit late, but I wanted to wish you a happy birthday," Adrein said, making her grin.
"Why thank you!" she said as she stood, placing her cup on the table and wrapping ehr around him. As always she was careful not to touch his skin with hers.
Looking to Axel she asked, "Where did Mortimer go? I was having such a lovely conversation with him, it saddens me that he left so abruptly."

The commotion outside was growing louder as the beating of helicopter blades came to a halt. Voices carried up to the room, though she couldn't tell what they were saying, she could make out some of them as the other student. Walking over to the window she pulled back the curtain and peered out,
"The others are back, we should go greet them, and make sure everyone is okay.

Axel shrugged as he sipped his own tea, enjoying the aroma.
"Probably went off to see who's in the helicopter. And speaking of, you're right, following him to go check up on the people who are back would probably be in our best interests..." he said, drinking the rest of the tea as fast as he pseudohumanly could, then placing the cup down. He then made his way back over to the door, and waited in the eaves. "And we won't be finding out how everyone is any sooner by sitting here, will we?" His money was still on what he'd said earlier, but he wasn't going to say that out LOUD, of course... Not until after he and Mikhail were alone... And that sounded much better in Axel's mind before he thought about it too hard... And immediately wanted to gouge his eyes out after imagining Mik lying on a heart-shaped bed in nothing but his skivvies, rose in his teeth, and why did everything smell like copper again?

Any normal in the general area scattered and hid once Axel looked out the window and saw the Russkie doing pull-ups in the woods. {Well, I DO need to verify my wild random guess as to where he was...} he thought to himself, and pulled his trenchcoat around himself a bit more.
"I'm gonna go check up on Mik, actually. Dude probably needs some moral support." he said to Anna and Adrien, telling them he'd meet up with them at the cafeteria as he ran to the roof and found his original spot he had jumped from before, now biting his thumb and letting the blood from it and his nosebleed form into a miasmic brownish cloud around his hand before placing it on the side of the building, and molding it into an auto-rappel system of sorts, letting millions upon millions of small hooks grip the stone at the bottom of the system while releasing them from the top as he descended, having taken the idea from a book about geckos he'd read while at the library with Anna. Once his boots hit ground, he detatched the device from the wall and absorbed it back into his cut, wincing as the over-oxygenated blood entered his veins once more and left his head spinning. If it wouldn't have left him worse off losing that much blood, he'd have preferred just releasing it like before, but as he'd told Lars, he could only make more blood if there was still enough in the rest of his body.

Shaking the dizziness off, he walked over to Mik's tree and leapt up to a branch nearby, hauling himself up and sitting as close as he could to the tree, praying it wouldn't snap. Lord knew he already'd spent half his energy just trying to descend from the roof, and pulling up so much as a piton would probably make him lightheaded for a good ten minutes.
"So..." He said, not really knowing how to break the ice except by way of dynamite, "How were the Russians?"

"Axel...Mortimer...the things they went through...they were..they were...horrible....I have never...never felt such pain...ever in my life...and that was just...just once person...one person's experience...I just cant...can't believe..." With much sadness in her voice she turned her eyes from Axel over to himself, tears wetting her pale cheeks as she spoke. "We have to help them....we have to..do something.."

Mortimer couldn't agree more. What many could say in a thousand words Mortimer confessed his resolve with a single nod and a look of resolve on his new face. Of course, what Mortimer mistook for a moment of unity and clarity of direction was obviously not what was on Axel's mind, evidence being the kiss he gave her followed by the almost overly saccharine wooing. "We'll do things once we know you're strong enough to handle them. Any time before that, and I'll refuse to let you take part. There's an old adage in Japan that I just made up. The man who prepares is worth twenty of the one who is brash. I won't let you ruin yourself over actions you don't know the end result to..." It seemed Axel was speaking from experience, although question as to exactly what he's been involved with up until now still a matter of many questions. "I learned that the hard way..." Yes, it was already quite evident and only more so now.

"So you rest, for now. I'm pretty sure a kitten would win in a durability contest right now. Both Mort and I are fine, one of us is dead emotionally, and the other is holding the person who already saved him. We won't be hurt any more than we already have been. Now come on, I still need to treat you your birthday present." On top of being somewhat dismissive of him Axel's comment on Mortimer being emotionally dead as well made him far more self conscious than he already was, which was quite a lot.

Is that what this has all been about this whole time? Does he really believe I am emotionally dead inside? That would explain why he seems so antagonized by my presence. It is because he believes I don't have any feelings that he acts like he does towards me, that all this time he didn't have to worry about whether or not he might hurt me with his words. That would make quite a lot of sense, seeing as how different people will act when they believe they don't have to refrain out of common courtesy or politeness. Give a man the power to suffer absolutely no consequences and the result would be a monstrous individual, a beast by almost every modern sensibility. I'm only familiar with that mindset because that is the light under which almost everyone views me under: Something less than human, unknowing or even unworthy of traditional human empathy or even pity.

After all, I am already dead by some definitions. Who could not take the chance to act how many wished they could act towards everyone else towards me? I know very few people that wouldn't and only because the ones who don't act that way are too scared of my macabre appearance to do so. Really, Anna's one of the rare few who actually shown me true kindness, the kind people only give to those they really like. I could never ask of anything more from her, truly. As for Axel... I am disappointed to say I may have been wrong about him. Seeing as he was different in that he was also somewhat inhuman in a medically technical sense definitely did not dampen his sense of humanity. To say he is different from other people would only really be applicable towards a scientist's sense of biology. Without the powers he is no less human than the others I'm afraid.

Not that that is necessarily a bad thing. The true crime is in my sordid existence. Though thankful for the second life I have been allotted I cannot help but feel the distinct divide between me and humanity in general. I may never find a suitable common ground that I could found a friendship on. When my basic function is alien to life itself how could I expect them to relate in any way, shape or form? I feel nothing. The only sensations available to me are hearing, sight and a vague knowledge of the current status of my body. I do not eat and I only rest to recuperate mentally for a short period of time. I cannot reproduce and my cells do not replenish, only decay.

Amongst the many qualifications for being alive the only one I meet is sentience. My will, the only thing defining my existence. An existence animated purely by force of mind is one dissimilar to almost any other life form I have known. Myself and the rest of humanity share little but a mind and a humanoid form. How could I possibly hope to find commonality amongst them for myself? Do I deserve to even despair as others do? Perhaps Axel is not wrong to look down on me as he does...

Just as Mortimer stood wearing his cold, contemplating expression of relatively neutral emotional status he broke out from his depressing inner monologue to see Anna being carried off by Axel like a warlord's prize. As his freshly acquired eyes met hers he saw her weak smile as she daintily waved him goodbye. His usual semi frown lightened into the faintest beginnings of a smile as he waved back to her before she disappeared into the school altogether. Such a temporary happiness, set only to be juxtaposed against the never ending onslaught called reality.

The smile faded, his face a neutral semi frown once more. He set into the school, his destination a different one from the one the other two were taking. While they relaxed and enjoyed the fruits of luxury he would do what must be done. She was right in that she was the best suited for extracting the needed information to better excavate truth from the labyrinthine machinations set into motion within the very arteries of this school. Knowing this the benefactors behind this entire setup would foresee that potential information leakage and limit her exposure far more than the other students. Mortimer was not under such strict informational confinement would assume the role of delivering the information to her. After all...

We have to help them. We have to do something.

Mortimer stepped back into the medical wing, standing within the epicenter of suffering that the students who were embroiled in the last mission resided while they were recovering. He made his way through the constant maneuvering of nurses attempting to tend to their patients needs towards their head's office. Standing in front of the chief doctors office like last time Mortimer looked in through the windows into the interior to see that no one was inside at the moment. Somewhat to his surprise the door was in fact unlocked, the natural conclusion being that the doctor was off on a brief errand of a medical nature. Taking a look behind himself he confirmed whether or not anyone was observing him in particular at the time. They were not. Safe in that mindset he stepped into the office, softly shutting the door behind him so as to not be under direct observation.

He quickly scanned the office for items which would not be conspicuous and yet offer a decent amount of information to Anna. The file cabinets were locked, the computer was too large to conceal on his way out, the papers on the desk would give him away the moment he stepped out, the picture of the old doctor's wife would likely have very little information of value,
the ornate pen... perfect. In a smooth motion Mortimer stepped forward and gently lifted the pen from the cup.
Hmm... Just in case anyone stops me I better conceal it. Mortimer plotted out his exit strategy on the spot.

He opened up a pocket in his coat and tucked the pen inside. With that done he tucked his shirt back in and walked back to the door, opening it just enough so that he could fit through and stepping past the doorway, gently shutting the door as he exited the room. Without even so much as a pause he continued out the medical wing into the main foyer and down towards the dormitory halls.

Mortimer stood just outside Anna's room. With new information on his person he gave three firm but modest knocks on the reasonably sized wooden door. A short while passed with no response. Perhaps they didn't hear me? He gave another three knocks to try and draw their attention once more.

I shouldn't be so hasty. Perhaps I should bid my time and wait for them to respond? Yes, that seems about right.

With that thought Mortimer stood motionless outside Anna's room. He stood as quiet as the dead, not even the sound of a beating heart to disturb the stewing silence while he waited for someone who was not even present to answer the door.

Dr. Ziles

She waited momentarily as the lights flickered on in the large room, remaining hidden at one of the desks behind one of the many computers in the room. It was one of the students rummaging around for some of the schools secrets again. The thought of it caused her mouth to twitch slightly into a smile, it was quite amazing, really, to see such curiosity still embedded into the mind of an artificially made human...she wondered how this boy differed from another of her creations...Axel. They were both artificial in a sense, but one had nothing but one had gone through real experiences, a real life...what the latter had was only synthetic, nothing other than ideas from her and her colleagues imaginations. There was also the fact that he was preprogrammed, the emotions he felt, his behavior, his thought processes, all preprogrammed.

She would like to say that she felt a tinge of guilt for what she had done, what she was doing, and what she was planning to do, but if she said that she would be lying entirely. She was doing what she thought, no what she knew was right, and to her, the ends justified the means entirely. She knew she would be praised in the future for what she achieved in the present, and although she may be hated currently for what needs to be done she didn't care, it would be done either way.

With that she decided she gave the boy enough time to do his research, she didn't want him finding out too much after all.

"Mikhail Petrov," she stated, flipping switches that served to power off the computers in the room. "You do know this room is under restricted access don't you?" She asked, smiling slightly, as she walked over to the door, leaning on it while waiting for his response.

Adrien

Adrien had found himself drifting through the halls once more, chuckling slightly at the habit he found himself forming. Although he was one who loved socializing and enjoying time with others, he oftentimes found himself isolated in his own world of sorts, daydreaming almost constantly. That wasn't to say he didn't love daydreaming, because he most certainly did...but it wasn't that fun to do it consistently. He shook his head, he couldn't lie it was kind of nice to drift off into his own world, but there was a real world that he was living in, and despite how hard it could get one always has to deal with reality in the end; he was sure that was a fact.

Finding that he was growing weary of thinking to himself for so long he went back to his dorm room to see if Anna was there, once he saw that she wasn't he sighed slightly, presuming she was with Axel or Mortimer elsewhere within the school. He began to exit the room until he turned and looked outside the window...and what he saw most certainly surprised him...snow! At the sight of it he assumed that everyone else must have been outside enjoying it, and his mind drifted to thoughts of snowball fights and creating a snowman with friends as he put on a coat, gloves, and a hat, already having his scarf on...he didn't think he ever did create a snowman...the thought made him frown slightly, but he smiled knowing that that was what the present is for!

Once he was completely dressed for the cold weather he made his way outside, looking to see where everyone was. As he looked he was unsure if they had even went outside in the first place...eventually, once he had been looking for a while and couldn't find them, he stood there silently, beginning to think once more. He had never really liked the snow...well that was until his powers started working to benefit him, when he didn't have to spend his days lying down in subways because they were the warmest place he could find...getting kicked out of any indoor are that he attempted to go to...freezing out in the streets as the snow piled on top of him...a pained expression grew on his face, but he found solace in the knowledge that things were different now...Psy Prep provided a roof over his head...his power provided him warm clothes to be able to enjoy this weather...He could live, do things that normal children were able to do.

He took a deep breath of the brisk air through his nostrils, the cold air spreading down his throat, and then he released through his mouth, a fog emitting from his mouth. It was beautiful. He closed his eyes and gently dropped down to the ground, deciding he would make a snow angel, once he had hit the ground he let out a pained yelp, finding that there was barely any snow formed on the ground, and that he had just fallen in what was primarily a pile of leaves and soil, along with some snow, it was only October after all. He found himself letting out a dry laugh, as he rested on the ground, looking up at the cloudy sky as the snow fell.

He was at peace.

That was until what seemed to be a dark shadow flew (or rather, ran) above him, his eyes widening in shock as he took in a deep gasp. He jolted up to see what it was when he realized it was Mortimer! "What's going on?" He thought perplexed, before turning to see where Mortimer had came from and seeing a long rope of what appeared to be blankets protruding from the window of one of the dorm rooms.

Even more curious, Adrien chased after him, slightly worried for Mortimer's well being. "What's going on?" continued repeating inside his head as he continued chasing after him, he began panting once they reached trees and he decided he might as well begin calling out to him before he lost the guy. "Mortimer! Mortimer wait up!" He said, worry in his voice as he began to slow down, "Are you okay?" He called out, his voice tinged with slight desperation as he knew he couldn't continue running much longer. He was proved correct when his legs seemingly gave in and he fell, skidding on the ground of the canopy. He was unsure of where they were exactly and he wasn't sure if he could even see Mortimer anymore, as the sky had been growing dark with the coming of the night. "Mortimer?" He called out one more time, leaning down on a tree as he sat, panting for breath. "What's going on?" Rang through his mind one more time, he hoped it wasn't another event like with what happened to the others who returned from that mission, injured and bloody.

As Mortimer was running he could hear someone else pursuing him. How did they catch up so fast? He wondered, making good distance on the footsteps falling behind him no less but it was still an odd happening. Is that one of their powers? I have to be more careful if I am to escape them. He managed to make it into the thick of the trees before he heard a voice distantly calling out to him. "Mortimer! Mortimer wait up!" He heard the familiar voice of Adrien, the friendlier of the few who initially greeted him, drifting away as he ran. From his tone of voice he didn't sound angry or menacing to him. Perhaps it's a trick to try and lure you in Mortimer's sense of paranoia chimed in. At a time like this it was hard not to be paranoid about people, especially when all throughout his life his paranoia had rarely given him a false path to walk.

Despite his paranoia however his deductive logic began playing as the devil's advocate. He could of sworn that Adrien was not counted amongst the two who were last pursuing him. For that matter he couldn't hear or see anyone else with Adrien. If his guess was correct then Adrien would be the only one out here, hardly logical for someone trying to attack him. There was not enough time to set an ambush either so there was no way the other students had simply hidden nearby, waiting for him to take the bait. By all conclusions Adrien was no bait, just a fellow student trying to speak with him.

Mortimer had concealed himself in a rather advantageous hiding spot. The way the bushes and the trees hid his position also allowed him a great deal of view, enabling him to watch Adrien without being noticed himself. "Mortimer?" Adrien called out one last time before settling down against a tree, evidently fatigued from chasing him. Seeing as how he had the upper hand in this circumstance and Adrien seemed rather alone Mortimer was quite conflicted. In the end there was one question Mortimer had to solve himself: To trust paranoia and get the heck out of there or to give someone who was characteristically good the benefit of the doubt?

...

Mortimer's faith in humanity won out. He snuck up behind the tree Adrien was resting on, approaching while keeping his visibility minimal while staying as quiet as the dead. He needed to act swiftly for this to work out. In a fast motion Mortimer's rope fried hands reached out from around the tree, clasping around his mouth so he didn't yell out in surprise, compromising his position. He slowly drew his left hand back to his own face, placing his index finger next to his lips in the manner most typically associated with silence. "Shhh." He quietly hushed Adrien, trying to make sure that he didn't try and pull anything unfortunate. Fairly secure that Adrien likely got the idea he pulled his right hand away from Adrien's mouth. "Do you know where the others are?" He asked in a quiet tone, his eyes darting about, searching for any additional pursuers.

Adrien

Adrien waited for a while, panting silently as he waited to see if Mortimer would respond. Odd how he got from looking for everyone to resting against a tree and panting for breath. "I really need to work on being less impulsive..." He thought to himself with a slight grin

But just as he began grinning his eyes snapped open when he saw a hand coming for him, but he responded far to late when it already made it to his lips. His body stiffened and he was about to begin struggling like a mad man to get out of his attackers grasp. He let out a few muffled yells already, but he soon saw it was Mortimer once he began shushing him with his free hand. Once Adrien realized who his "attacker" was he calmed down, growing silent until Mortimer drew his hand away.

Once Mortimer asked him if he knew where the others were he got even more confused, and more worried, especially due to the circumstances of Mortimer's exit from the school, and how he was acting now...there had to be some kind of danger...and with Mortimer's eyes darting around like that he assumed it was a pursuer of some sort. But who? Was the school trying to detain them all or something? Finally, Adrien snapped back to reality and answered the question, "Uh...uh, no. I was hoping I'd find them earlier but I just saw you running and got worried. Mind filling me in on what's going on?" Adrien's tone matched the silence of Mortimer's, this situation was no laughing matter.

Adrien's thoughts lingered on Mortimer's hand when he had covered his mouth...his hand felt rather...scabby? He wondered if Mortimer had gotten injured while running, and if Mortimer was even capable of feeling pain in his undead state. He frowned slightly...but they would get to tending injuries later, the dangerous situation occurring now was more important.

"Uh...uh, no. I was hoping I'd find them earlier but I just saw you running and got worried. Mind filling me in on what's going on?"

Mortimer looked out towards the school. He looked to make certain that he was the only one who was following. A still moment passed as he confirmed their solitude. Adrien was the only one here which meant he was telling the truth. There was no tension in his body to be had but his mind felt the weight of his situation ease. Atlas would let Hercules shoulder the burden
for now.

"They are going to kill me." He explained to Adrien in his typically terse fashion.
What good will Adrien and Anna share towards me is not shared unfortunately He resigned himself to his fate in his mind. The thought of Anna gave Mortimer an idea. Since Adrien was here he might as well utilize the few people who he could trust.
He needed to give the pen to Anna but seeing as how all his opposition were currently hunting him it would not be in his best interest to go back right away only to be rallied against once more. His original idea was to return in the cloak of night's darkness and infiltrate the building and give Anna his parting gift. However now he had someone who was accepted amongst them who may be willing to carry out his task.

"There is something I need to give to Anna. Something important." He informed him. He reached into a pocket and produced from it a rather expensive looking pen. "This pen may hold answers that she is looking for. I cannot return to the school so I ask you..." He slowly held the pen out to Adrien, utilizing great care in holding it despite the burns to his hand.
"Can you give this to her? I will be in your debt should you do this." His tone was nothing less than genuine. He meant every word he said with one hundred and ten percent conviction. He had sworn to Anna that he would help her and with this opportunity at hand he could fulfill it and live to see another dawn.

Of course, there were risks in handing over this item to somebody else. Plenty of opportunities to lose and/or have it taken from him. Mortimer's thoughts drew back to Axel. The man who threatened him earlier over Anna. He was an impulsive sort and the scenario in which Adrien presents the pen only to have Axel destroy it was, at least as much as Mortimer could ascertain, quite probable. "Should you accept this..." Mortimer added, waiting a moment to make sure his words were clear to Adrien. "Under no circumstance should anyone else but Anna know about it." Mortimer waited to hear his response. His mouth was still in a rather neutral flat void of expression but his eyes were locked with Adrien's, his stern unblinking stare most unnerving. His stare had an unearthly quality to it, as though he could see directly into Adrien's mind, stripping it of all privacy and laying all his flaws stretched flat out before him. This was not the truth but it's potency could still send a shiver down harder men's spines.

Adrien

"They are going to kill me."

The words had created a pit in Adrien's stomach. They... Who was they? The school? Wait...the other students? No, that couldn't possibly make sense...but it could be considered a possibility. He had decided it would be best to vocalize his concerns, "Wait, who's trying to kill you?" Adrien asked while Mortimer seemed to be contemplating things, perhaps determining what he should do next in his plans for escape.

When he was done thinking he requested that Adrien deliver something to Anna, the item apparently being a pen that seemed to be worth some great value. However, it wasn't the monetary value of the pen that made it worthy, but some other quality it had was to bring light to some questions Anna was having or something. As he held the pen out to Adrien he remembered days when he would have taken the chance to snatch the pen and sell it as fast as he could...but these weren't those days anymore, he wasn't in a situation where he had to do those awful things.

"Can you give this to her? I will be in your debt should you do this."

The passion from Mortimer's voice was real, there was no doubting the seriousness of the situation they were in right now, and although the pressure was high, Adrien was up for the task. "...Yes, I'll get this to her as quickly as possible..." he said somberly, "And as for you being in my debt...don't worry about it," Adrien said with a compassionate smile to Mortimer. He knew how it felt to be on the run, to be afraid of others at every turn, and probably not even at the same intensity that Mortimer had felt it...he wanted to at least give Mortimer this.

"Under no circumstance should anyone else but Anna know about it."

Once Mortimer said this Adrien knew he had to be even more careful, he couldn't fail in this mission no matter how bad the odds seemed for Mortimer and himself...he didn't know why, but he felt inclined to believe him...to naively follow what he said and deliver the pen to Anna. There could have been a chance Mortimer could have been manipulating him all along, but he didn't once think of it as a possibility.

Once Adrien was done thinking he looked back over to Mortimer, "Don't worry, I'll make sure she's the only one who knows of it." The intensity of Mortimer's stare had made him slightly uncomfortable...it seemed invasive, as if Mortimer had been staring directly at his soul, noting everything about it and leaving no corner unchecked. A wave of a strange sensation flowed within Adrien as Mortimer continued staring deeply at him. "...If you don't mind me asking...what are you planning on doing?" Adrien asked with concern, "I mean...it seems like the only logical plan to go with would be to run away, but...but what if I can clear your name with the other students?"

When Adrien accepted his request it was quite the relief. Not having to return to the school in order to deliver the pen saved him a lot of risk, both that he'd be caught and that he would even manage to get the pen to her. After he accepted his offer however Adrien did bring up a possible alternative. "I mean...it seems like the only logical plan to go with would be to run away, but...but what if I can clear your name with the other students?" It should of been something Mortimer should of considered doing himself first. It would of saved a lot of trouble had he simply announced that he was no danger to any of them but from experience that approach has seldom worked in the rare few times he had used it. None of the accusations most people used to drive him off were matters he could refute. "Get the zombie!" Many would yell and he couldn't really say otherwise. Truth was that he was a zombie by most means so he couldn't say that they were wrong for saying that. He never truly understood what about that made people dislike him so much but he never really questioned the reasoning. It was an unfortunate fact of life that he was forced to live with since the day of his rebirth into this life of his. Sometimes it almost seemed as though people didn't want to try and understand, as though people wanted to hurt him,
using the fact he was a zombie as an excuse.

Still, now that the chase was on it was much too risky to show his patch-work face back at the school once again. The speed of understanding might not out-pace the time it takes for one to deliver a great deal of physical injury, if the point ever did get across that is. Adrien's proposal was perhaps the safest to take. "That might work. If you could try and convince the other students of my innocence I may have a chance at being able to return without further hostility. Even still the hunt for me is on so I cannot return for now." Mortimer's smooth somber tone carried the seriousness of this conversation well. He looked out towards the mountainous terrain that sprawled out away from the school, wondering where he would even go from there. Even if he wanted to run, the road would not be the safest place to travel as it would likely be one of the more heavily patrolled area as it allows a far greater ease of travel for those who own or have access to vehicles.

Mortimer recalled the pen in his hand, remembering that it needed to reach Anna regardless of whether or not he was able to return. Adrien's plan to try and argue on his behalf could fail on multiple levels. Should the other student's feelings towards himself remain unaltered then he would not be able to return regardless of Adrien's efforts. That was still a possibility he could not afford. He placed the pen in his hand, lifting his hand away only when he was sure Adrien had a proper hold of the pen.
"I will remain around this general area. If anyone else but you returns here I may be forced to leave." He informed him. With that said Mortimer turned from Adrien and began to make his way off into the forest. He made his way back and forth, finding various positions from which he could watch this particular section of the woods without being detection and compared the various spots in order to find a place which he could remain the least visible in.

Axel sighed in relief as Anna realized her mistake. While he hadn't wished for Zara to be hurt, he knew the full potential of Anna's powers, and so wanted her to realize one of the largest powers and pains behind it: the words used to hurt others.
"I have a feeling Mort's being helped right now, considering Adrien isn't around." he said, frowning in feigned disappointment, and looked her dead in the eye. "You need to apologize to Zara when we get back, though. She might have acted painfully, but she was only doing what she perceived as right. If you thought there was a flesh-eating beast in the school that could turn your loved ones against you, wouldn't you do everything in your power to defend against it?" Before she could object to what he'd called Mort, he added "I'm merely saying what Zara was thinking. Her methods were wrong, but her heart was where she thought was the right place." As he finished, he turned around and walked towards the stairs, hoping he could reach the forest with Anna before Mort fled for good.

As she looked back toward Zara's door she wiped her eyes, guilt still welling up inside her. Letting Zara be for a while seemed the best, but when they returned she would be sure to make amends.
Quickly she reached out to take Axel's hand, and pulling him toward her room.
"It's cold outside Axel, if we are going to go look for Mort then I need my coat."
Sliding her key in the door she pushed open the door and opened the small coat closet just inside the door. Pulling out a gray wool jacket, lavender scarf and gloves. As she dressed in her warm clothes she looked over Axel, who was not dressed for winter weather in her opinion. Reaching over she grabbed a blue hat, scarf, and glove set and tossed it to him.
"I wouldn't want you to freeze out there, I still need you around," she chuckled. Though she was still upset about the way she had acted before, being around him always made her mood lighter.

Glancing out the window out toward the frosty forest beyond her worry grew. The snow was falling hard in thick chunks of ice as opposed to the dainty flakes from her dream. Ice frosted across the window and the wind pounded against the pane. She prayed that Mortimer was alright, and knowing that Adrein was out there with him didn't help lessen her grief.

Taking Axel's hand once more they made their way out to the cold outdoors, and began their search for Mort.

Adrien

He left once Mortimer placed the key in his hand. He began making his way back to the school, looking back once or twice to ensure Mortimer didn't end up running away entirely in spite of their arrangement, though he doubted he would do that. He had to find out what was going on, and why everyone was hunting him for some reason, and even then he had his second objective of delivering the pen to Anna. It was going to be difficult but he had to do it.

He made his way through the woods, stumbling over some roots as he continued, eventually after not too long he made it out of the woods at a distance where he could see the school. He noted two faint figures by the school walking toward him and immediately his mind went to think of the people trying to hurt Mortimer. He rushed over to them, noticing that it was Anna and Axel when he got closer. The revelation had shocked him, why would they be chasing Mort of all people? His mind did go back to when Axel had acted strangely to Mortimer...could that have anything to do with what was going on? It did make things easier for him though...he could end this hunt and deliver the pen to Anna in a close succession, perhaps this would be easier than he imagined...although he knew from experience that ending disputes was barely ever easy.

Once he got close enough he began speaking immediately, it wasn't the time for formalities. "You guys what's going on? Mortimer's going to leave the school because he says that everyone's trying to kill him, so some explanation would be nice."

Zoe

"Oh. There you are. Lookin' all over for you."

She smiled slightly once Chandler woke up again, happy to see him conscious again. His voice seemed raspy, and she thought they might as well get some water or something. She shifted in the creaky bed to face him, "You shouldn't have followed after me...we both could have died in that cabin," she said, her worry evident in her voice. Although she could have died had he not followed her, he would be safe.

"Then I'd say the chances of us dying are the same as long as we stay in this school," she said with a small laugh. She had been trying to lighten up the mood but the truth in her attempt at a joke remained.

She shook her head, ready to move on to another topic. "You wanna get something to eat? If you're still not feeling well it can wait."

Dr. Ziles

Mikhail's response was definitely not one she had expected, the ceiling had come crashing down before she could even realize what was going on, thankfully she had responded fast enough to not be completely be crushed by the debris but she wasn't completely spared, rubble and tech crashing on top of her among other things.

Her mind raced through ways she wanted to kill the boy, but she had to repress her urges as she heard the sound of some of the students coming. One of them came to her, assisting in the removal of what had crashed on top of her, she coughed slightly as he helped her, noticing the scrying crystal on his neck. She already knew who it was but a good look at his face let her know for sure it was James.

She smiled as he helped her up. "Thank you," she said weakly, "If it weren't for you two coming as fast as you did who knows what would have happened to me." Her eyes moved over to the girl, it was Hallie the empath...two psychics with powers like theirs being so close to this much information wasn't exactly favorable.

"Do you think that you may be able to escort me to the Nurse's Office? Any other day I'd go by myself but I fear I may end up falling on the way there," she said with a laugh. Her whole body was pulsating with pain but she had to focus.

The pair's boots sank in the snow, it seemed there was almost a foot on the ground now and no sign of it stopping. The cold cut through Anna's jacket quickly, but she ignored the shivering of her body as she made her way towards the woods. The walk was awkward...she couldn't tell whether it was due to the wind and cold that Axel wasn't speaking...or if it was something else. Either way his face was bright red, and she only hoped it was because of the cold.
Maybe he thinks differently of me now...he didn't seem upset back at the school...but I did say some awful things...
Crossing her arms over her chest she tucked her hands under her arms to keep them warm. She had left them dangling in the hopes that maybe Axel would have taken hold of one, but it seemed his distance was not worth her hands freezing.
Not long into their trek they saw a figure coming towards them in the distance. Anna's heart leapt in her chest as she thought maybe it was Mort coming home, but it was Adrien. Still she was glad to see that at least he was okay.
He had a look of worry on his face as he reached them and asked, "You guys what's going on? Mortimer's going to leave the school because he says that everyone's trying to kill him, so some explanation would be nice."
"Oh, this situation is dreadful! Some of the other students saw him in the hallway upstairs and thought there was some kind of zombie apocalypse descending on the school...they chased him into Axel's room. By the time I cleared things up with them he had already fled...Axel and I came to look for him and make sure that he is alright. Please Adrien, you have to tell us where he is!"
As she spoke the last part she took Adrien's hands in her own and gave them a slight squeeze.
"And you have been out here for quite a while, you need to get back to the school and warm up before you catch your death out here!"

Axel walked behind Anna rather quietly, his blush failing to hide itself as he realized what Anna had said back when talking to Zara. For some reason, he knew that the word "boyfriend" meant something incredibly important, but he had no idea of how to actually ask her about it without sounding like a complete fool. He sent a silent prayer of thanks to Freddie Mercury when Adrien showed up to accuse them of being the reason for Mort's departure. He put his now-mitted hands up in a stopping motion so he could speak.
"Whoa, there, I LIKE Mort. He might have all the personality of a bowl of petunias, but he's one of us, and that's that. Zara was the one who has to be kinamortophobic... Pun not intended. I was in the movie room passed out with Anna, and by the time I woke up, Anna gave the mother-in-law of all telling offs to her, and Mort was long gone... Ironically, if Zara were here, she'd find him lickety-split. Shame we don't have any discarded items of his, or we might have been able to have Anna try to track him down."

((THUNDER YOU'RE WELCOME BUT WHAT DID I DO?))
Adrien

As Annabel and Axel explained to him what had happened he felt a wave of relief that it was all a misunderstanding, but he was still extremely worried for Mortimer. He wondered how he was doing out there, knowing it must have been awful to think that everyone was trying to hunt you down and kill you...he hoped that Mortimer didn't choose to run away before he returned because he hoped that this misunderstanding could be cleared up completely.

When Anna took his hands into hers he snapped out of his thoughts and finally realized how cold he was compared to the rest of them, shivering due to the fact that he had been out so long.

"And you have been out here for quite a while, you need to get back to the school and warm up before you catch your death out here!"

Adrien considered going inside at the suggestion and letting them find Mortimer, but he knew that couldn't work. There was no way they'd be able to find him by themselves without knowing the way to get there. Even if they did manage to find him he would run away, Mortimer had told him explicitly that he had to come get him rather than anyone else, so either way he had to go. "I'll be able to warm up after we get Mort...until then I'll have to stick with you guys so he knows everything's okay," Adrien responded after some thought.

At Axel's mentioning of the possibility of Anna being able to track Mort down with one of his discarded items Adrien's mind immediately went to the pen that he gave him...but he couldn't give the pen to Anna now, he was warned to give it to her in private when he got the chance, so he couldn't give it to her now in front of Axel. "It's alright, I think I remember the way to him, he said he'd wait for me in case I could work things out with everyone..." Adrien said, "Does everyone know Mortimer's okay now? If not, one of us should find everyone and let them know that he's not the coming of a zombie apocalypse," Adrien continued, hoping Axel would volunteer to everyone so he could give Anna the pen...hopefully that would work out.

Zoe

Her eyes felt heavy as she continued lying down on the hospital bed, but it was difficult to try and attempt to sleep as the springs were poking into her like dull knives and the voices of Ziles, Hallie, and James rang out close by. What they were conversing about didn't matter much to her but just the sound of Hallie and Ziles brought a sour taste in her mouth and a pit in her stomach.

Her eyes shifted to the window nearby where she was situated, the snowy backdrop was dark as the night began, she hadn't felt so tired in quite some time she thought with a yawn. She couldn't get to sleep though, the memory of the library coming up over and over again along with other unpleasant ones that she didn't want to remember.

She dwelled on it for quite some time until loud noises had erupted from somewhere else within the room, the metallic creaking and groaning of machine hinges, cracking and breaking noises paired with a consecutive slam of objects falling on the floor. She knew most of the noises all to well, noises that went along with destructive powers going out of control. Her eyes widened at the noise and her hands went to her ears, but she could only dull the sound of the screaming and yelling that followed. She wondered who it was before the male voice registered in her mind, it was Mikhail. His powers were the only one that fit the description anyways.

She turned around in her bed as the noise lowered, until she could barely hear anything left at all. She noticed a Nurse pacing out of the room and signaled for her to come over. "What happened?" She asked, she would have went up to check for herself but it wasn't like she was on good terms with anyone in that room, in her mind at least. "A patients powers went a bit out of control during some X-Rays, the patient's sedated now so you have no need to worry for your well being," the Nurse reassured, leaving quickly before she could even ask to see if he was okay.

She shook her head silently before turning around again, whether or not anyone out there was okay wasn't really her business anyways...

(OoC: YOU GAVE AXEL AN OPPORTUNITY TO START TALKING AGAIN.)
Axel rubbed the back of his head, smiling weakly.
"I think everyone knows by now... But I'll go. Best they hear it from the now-not-new guy." He went to walk away, but stopped, and pivoted back to face Anna, face still red. "Also, I, uh... I have to ask you something when you get back. It's been niggling at me for a while, and I'd rather ask when it's not so cold." With that, he walked away until he was out of sight, then took off the hat and scarf. He was swimming in the lake without notice it was cold, and he was warm enough with the trenchcoat. The hat and scarf had sent him boiling, and he was glad to be out of them. As he walked back to the school, he realized he had no idea where everyone was, and so decided to go to the first place he expected people to be after multiple people came back from multiple things.

Apparently, the hot spring was empty.

The nurse's area was a bit more occupied, and Axel found Zoe, Ziles, Hallie, and James all together.
"Perfect timing!" Axel said as he walked up to them, "James, you tell everyone about the new guy? If not, I will: Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the new sitcom, My Roommate Is A Psychic Zombie, starring Axel Lerate and Mortimer Mene!" ...That might have been funnier if Mik hadn't just brought the place down a few minutes ago.

Adrien

Once Axel had left to spread the news about Mortimer, Adrien decided that he might as well take the chance and give Anna the pen now before continuing. "Hey, uh...Mortimer told me to give this to you once we were alone, said it was pretty important," Adrien said, rustling through his pockets until he received the pen. Before giving it to her, he continued, "I'm guessing it has some information in it that he wants you to get from your power? I guess it's none of my business though, so you don't really need to answer that," he said, holding it out to her.

He guessed that once she took the pen the best option would be to make their way towards Mortimer before he ended up running away or something, if Anna's powers were able to help find him from the pen that would make things even easier. He gave a light smile to her as she took the pen, eager to continue.

Zoe

She hadn't realized that his arm was around her until after Mikhail's wreckage was complete, the cold air that escaped from the broken window didn't seem as cold anymore...and her bad mood was fading away as she stayed close to him.

That was, until Axel burst into the room, speaking of zombie sitcoms and the like, a name stuck out, Mortimer Mene, the one who she assumed was Axel's brand new zombie roommate. Zoe rubbed her temples slightly, the timing of Axel's entrance being absolutely horrible due to the events that had just occurred.

Chandler had soon taken her hand into his, again nullifying her bad mood almost instantly, she wondered if it was healthy...for her to be like she was and be so reliant on one person, but at the moment she didn't care, she felt happy and that was all that mattered. Wasn't it? His hold on her hand grew tighter when he decided they might as well leave, making his way towards the door after the suggestion, she was all for leaving so she didn't really mind. "So...where do you want to go?" She asked, enjoying the feeling of their hands laced together.

Anna watched as Axel turned back toward the school to spread the news to the rest of the student. Before he went too far he looked back at her and said, "Also, I, uh... I have to ask you something when you get back. It's been niggling at me for a while, and I'd rather ask when it's not so cold."
In that moment her face flushed red, though the cold air was previously biting at her cheeks, she couldn't hide the worry and embaressment that his comment had brought on.
Quickly she dropped her gaze and responded, "Ok...we won't be long... I won't let them freeze to death out here."

Looking to the forest she scanned the tree line for signs of Mort in vain. She knew that without help she would never find him. Adrein broke her from her thoughts as he pulled an ornate pen from him pocket and handed it to her. "Hey, uh...Mortimer told me to give this to you once we were alone, said it was pretty important,...I'm guessing it has some information in it that he wants you to get from your power? I guess it's none of my business though, so you don't really need to answer that."
Taking it in her gloved hand she rolled it over on her palm and looked it over. It was quite beautiful, engraved with an intricate design and what looked like a name. She wondered where he had gotten it from, however, she slid it into her pocket to examine closer once they had reached the school.
"This looks like a personal piece, I should be able to get a lot of information from it. I look it over when we get back and I am warm again. "

Reaching out she took Adrein's hand in the cold, something she was becoming much more comfortable with recently. Though the school was strange she could admit that being here has given her much more confidence and the ability to come in contact with others without fear.

"Lets go find Mort, and then all of us are going to sit in front of a warm fire and drink some hot cocoa."

Adrien

Adrien smiled as Anna took his hand. He was glad, she was opening up so much more, from speaking to Axel and Mortimer to being comfortable with making contact with others. “Hopefully we find Mortimer soon,” Adrien said concernedly, “Sitting by the fire and drinking hot cocoa sounds like heaven in this cold,” he said with a laugh to lighten up the mood.

With that, he made his way back into the woods, taking Anna in the direction that he went when he was first following after Mort. He called out his name, hoping he’d hear his calls and reveal himself if he was anywhere close by. Eventually, they made it to where he had left Mortimer. “Mortimer! You can come out from hiding it was all a misunderstanding! Everything’s cleared up now and no one’s trying to kill you anymore!” Adrien shouted out, hoping Mortimer would show himself.

Zoe

Zoe was peaceful, she had felt safe for once in a long time. Despite everything that had been happening with her mentally and everything that had just occurred at the cabin, she felt calm resting on Chandler’s arm. There was still a numb pain in the back of her mind due to the fact that everything that happened made him scared of her, but she knew it was rational for him to be, and she felt better and relieved knowing that despite it he was still with her…that he wasn’t so freaked out that he stopped speaking to her.

She had fallen asleep, exhausted from everything that happened. She gave a soft smile before completely blanking out, warm and maybe even blissful while resting on Chandler.

Mortimer was as still as the dead. He had been hiding for quite a while. The cold had started to affect the dead flesh of his once again. The already clotted blood in his veins grew thicker, his eyes were having more trouble moving and frostbite was starting to appear near the extremities. He was just about to seek shelter elsewhere, leaving this hostile environment when he heard someone call out to him.

“Mortimer! You can come out from hiding it was all a misunderstanding! Everything’s cleared up now and no one’s trying to kill you anymore!”

It was Adrien. He had returned to the forest but he wasn't alone. Anna was following close beside him. As evident by his words and by his honesty the school was safe for him to return. He watched as they approached the spot he was hiding last time. He had relocated himself within a short radius of the first hiding spot since it would be foolish to hide in the same spot that someone knows you were hiding in last.

Much like a bigfoot sighting Mortimer rose up from the bushes and started making his way towards them. At this point these two were the only people he could really trust. His confidence in the other students, even the ones who haven't attacked him yet, was sundered by the assault. Eventually he came into speaking range, hailing them as he approached.

"Anna, Adrien, it is good to see you both."

His face displayed little emotion and his voice was rather monotone but there was an element of warmth towards them in it. Slowly he trudged his way through the snow, closing the distance between them with each heavy footstep. Once he was within about roughly ten feet or so he stopped. He turned his head to look to Adrien and then onto Anna since his eyes were sluggish from the affects of the cold and a consequence of having no internal body heat to warm them. His ordinarily brooding expression softened as he looked at Anna, kind as she was beautiful. He could only wonder what she might have learned from his gift to her.

Anna and Adrien trudged through the frigid snow further away from the school. The damp, cold wet was soaking through her boots and pants. Though she tried to hide it as best she could, her teeth began the chatter in her mouth. Determined to find Mort, she pushed herself further. With Adrein's hand firmly in hers she gazed across the white blanket toward the forest in search of movement.

“Mortimer! You can come out from hiding it was all a misunderstanding! Everything’s cleared up now and no one’s trying to kill you anymore!” he called out, his voice racing through the wind toward the forest where Mort was last seen. With each passing moment her heart beat faster, and her worry for Mort grew stronger. Too cold to cry out herself she could only hope that he was heard.
At long last she saw a shuffle in the distance, and Mort's figure emerge from the brush as he made his way toward them. The moment she saw him a burst of energy surged through every cell of her being. He's okay!
"Anna, Adrien, it is good to see you both."
His long legs carried him towards them much faster than her short limbs, however she picked up her pace to meet him. As they met, wind whipping and snow up to her knees, she smiled and threw her arms around him. With her cheek pressed to his cold, hard chest she squeezed around his torso , "Don't scare me like that ever again... she chattered, then quickly added, "...can we please go back now?"
With the relief of finding him her second wind left her, and she began to succumb to the cold. Her whole body began shaking, and her knees grew more weak. Though she tried her hardest to hide how much the elements were taking their toll on her, it was evident that her small frame was reaching its limits in this weather.

Mortimer did not expect her to be so overjoyed to see him. Throughout his relatively short unlife he had known only that kindness is something the living show to each other. Never would he ever of conceived of the thought that someone could be happy to see him, let alone as overjoyed as Anna was to see him. As she ran up and embraced him he held her much the same, gentle yet close, much like a glass butterfly: Something you hold so it cannot flutter away from you yet are careful not to break and lose it all the same. Though his body acknowledged that something was against him the warmth nor the texture could be felt. Dear sweet Anna, oh how he wished he could know just how she felt inside. It was cruel irony indeed that for a moment of such relief and happiness it was so torturous for him to be denied the ability to feel her warmth.

"Don't scare me like that ever again..."

"I'm sorry to have caused you any worry." He spoke, his low and somewhat unearthly tone attempting to carry across some form of comfort in his words. He truly felt bad that she was worried about him in the first place. He did not wish to cause her any sorrow and even the implication that she was scared at some point filled him with the urge to protect her and make everything alright. Though as sorry as he felt for that he couldn't promise her that he'd never do the same again. He hasn't the heart to lie to her and without knowledge of the future if he were forced to choose between his life and hers, despite how much she'd fear for his safety he would sacrifice his own for hers. He'd feel awful about leaving her in such manner but her safety would be a fair compromise.

"...can we please go back now?"

She added. He noticed that unlike himself she was feeling the cold quite strongly. Her body was shaking and it seemed like her legs would give out at any moment. He was now worried for her as it seemed that even if they were to proceed back immediately she might fall and hurt herself. Holding her close he stood between her and the blizzard, making sure he was positioned so that the wind and the snow was not reaching around him to her. With a hand supporting both her shoulders so he could hold her up should her legs fail he started to walk with her back towards the facility. Such an enigmatic place it was. Without this place he'd of never met Anna, never giving him the chance to witness a truly beautiful heart at work, yet still it held great mystery, great potential... For danger.
