|{Personality}|
{Clever, Arrogant, Aggressive, Insecure}

Carter is a fairly well known kid. Known by many, liked by few. He's the type of person you really need to get to know to like. He easily comes off as an arrogant dick and though a large part of that accurately describes him, he does have a good side. He's very loyal to his friends and enjoys having a good time with them but more often than not he's only got a select few of good friends because he has a terrible tendency to drive people away.

Although Carter can seem far from a threat and more like a big joke, he's nothing to mess with. Getting on his bad side can be dangerous. He's known for having a heavy fist and will let his fury loose if anyone gets in his way. Carter is a storm that doesn't stop for anyone. He will rip people to shreds if they get too close to the danger button. Many see him as an unemotional tornado. He will break down anything in his path without so much as a blink or a breath. The kid is not afraid of consequence. What many people don't see in Carter, however, is the crippling insecurity that he holds within himself. Growing up a shy and tubby child, he was constantly picked on. It was wasn't until his second year of high school that he became the complete opposite of what he used to be. Now he's a rebel without a cause and he intends on taking down everyone who ever put him down. But he will never stop seeing that ugly, shy, awkward and fat kid that killed him from the inside.

|{History}|
The Weeks family have been well known for several years now. Roughly twenty years ago Daniel Weeks along with best buddy and roommate, Chuck Saunders, decided to open up a bar straight out of college. The first few years were hard on the roommates but
they ended up being able to make it work several years later, now twenty years later and the Sandy Weeks have four different locations in town and nearly 50 in neighboring cities. Although the fame carried out wonderfully and the money has been good for the Weeks family, Carter never felt all that special. Just a few years into the business brought on a slew of high and drunken nights for Daniel and before he knew it, there was a knock on his door and an announcement through changed his life. Sydney and Daniel married shortly after and happily raised Carter and shortly after came Riley. A happy family, but each somewhat broken on the inside. Carter was never happy, he felt as though he never received as much love as he should have and it caused him to spiral into several different pits, he now resided in a pit of a aggressive and uncontrolled behavior.

Carter walked alone for a few moments before Delaney joined him. She started talking about the bus and how crazy all this has been. Carter bowed his head and pursed his lips. She shortly realized what she just said and started quickly apologizing. "Yeah it's really crazy." He started with his head still down then picked it up to look at Delaney. "No. It's fine. I-I-I-" He was having trouble forming the words. There was a cry stuck in his throat just about to escape. Carter swallowed hard, attempting to hold back a breakdown that was just short of the surface.

There was a long five minutes of awkward silence. Delaney plopped a few supplies into the cart she was pushing and offered Carter a water. "How are you feeling?" Carter took the water from Delaney and took a large gulp. He shrugged as he pulled the bottle away from his mouth. "I don't know," Carter turned his attention to Delaney now. He looked in her eyes with a pain that was indescribable, a hurt that wasn't inevitable to hurt. "I was supposed to protect her Del. And I failed her." Carter turned his attention away again. He didn't want Delaney to see the tears escaping his ducts. Just then Edward patted on his back. The boys looked at each other without words. Carter knew there wasn't anything Edward could say to make him feel better, so he didn't. He didn't have to.

Edward took a few steps alongside his best friend and his girlfriend and excused himself to see if the Network was still up. He gave the two a cold glare before departing that left Carter with am uneasy churn in his gut. Carter looked back at Delaney to see if she had caught the look too. "Is Ed okay? I haven't had much of a chance to talk to him yet."

Carter peeked over his shoulder to see where Edward had gone but couldn't see much in the dark behind him. He dropped a couple of bags of chips in the cart. He walked ahead of Delaney a few steps and pulled a mini flashlight off a side rack. He rattled it to find that the flashlight came with no batteries. Before he could turn to look for batteries, Edward had called out for Carter.

"Stay here, don't move." Hr said to Delaney with his hands grabbing her shoulders. "I won't lose you too." He just barely shouted as he ran towards Edwards voice.

Carter jogged over to an open door that was labelled "staff only." He pushed open the door a little more and stood by his friend. He looked at the door and then at Edward. Carter assumed the door had been locked, otherwise Edward wouldn't have needed to call him. He propped his hands on his hips and exchanged glances between the door and his friend. "Pick the lock?"Carter proposed the idea to get the door open.

There was an awkwardness between the two friends. They haven't spoken since before the accident. He felt a coldness from Edward that he wasn't quite certain from where it originated. Perhaps Edward didn't know what to say to Carter because of his sisters death. Carter was doing his best to keep it off his mind but he knew that as soon as everything calmed down a little Carter would break. That's why he tried to stay occupied. The feeling of guilt that shadowed him was too much too handle for the situation they were in right now. But he had to pull through. He needed that sliver of hope that survivalists had. If he didn't have that, he wouldn't make it.

Adrien

Goosebumps exploded onto Adrien's skin. A biochemical spill. He began giggling, and the giggling became laughing, but no one was under any illusions. This was not the laugh of a happy man, but that of one accepting how utterly fucked he is. A maddened final plea to life; a desperate silent question of "You're joking, right?" in the hope of defying reality.

His lung was punctured. His rib was broken. He was a fountain of blood. And now he would be choking on whatever the government had concocted, intending to hurl it at Middle Easterners or Russians or whoever the hell else. And now he would be recieving premium tickets to the show.

And yet Adrien still laughed and laughed, and he laughed until he started choking, and only then did life slap him in the face and tell him to calm down and accept his fate like a man.

Unless...

This store was a major one, selling pretty much everything under the moon with the exception of guns. It had to have air filtration masks somewhere, right?

He waited to regain his breath, then spoke:

"If some chemical did leak, it's probably airborne. We need to get gas masks. Now. Barricading can come later."

Virgis nodded in agreement with Delaney. "It seems pretty screwed up, and probably illegal." He was about to go over to Delaney and ask if she knew where they could find wood when... Adrien started laughing. First it was a soft chuckle, but it got louder. He didn't know if it could be considered a cackle, but whatever it was, it sure wasn't normal. Then Adrien seemed to snap out of it and said they needed gas masks.

Virgis sighed but had a scared look on his face. that guy could have brain damage. He looked at Delaney scared for a second, and then also snapped out of it. This was no time for being scared. He had to live. For his mom, for his... Well he didn't want to think about that. Also, for all the kids who died on the bus.

He shook his head at what Adrien said. "If it is gas or airborne it could get on food or water or anything really. We have to board it off, and what if it does stuff to the skin? Then we would be screwed! Also, why would a supermarket have gas masks? I'll go get staplers and someone get wood! We have to hurry!"

Virgis runs to the office section. He grabs a shopping cart first and sprints full speed, pushing it hunched over. He turns the corner and gets to the section. He grabs a bunch of tape rolls and some staple guns. Then he speeds back and hopes people grabbed some wood and didn't go for the gas masks.

"It's not your fault," Delaney murmured to Carter. "You couldn't have stopped the bus, or unbroken the window." Apparently these went unheard, however, as Edward popped into sight.

He didn't say much, but when he shot Delaney the coldest glare she'd ever seen in the time they'd been dating, she felt as though she'd been stabbed with an icicle. It was the only way to describe it - a shot of pain, thread through with rejection and anger. She could only stand, frozen to the spot, as Edward left.

"Is Ed okay? I haven't had much of a chance to talk to him yet."

Delaney snapped out of it, and looked at Carter. "Huh? Oh, uh, I guess... he brought me in here, I don't know." She turned away, biting her lip. Had she done something wrong? She tried to push the thought away by occupying herself, moving down the aisle, watching Carter drop items into the cart.

Then Edward called. Delaney nearly lost her balance when Carter's hands landed on her shoulders, unexpected. For the second time that day, she watched him go. "I'll be around."

She looked around, hearing her schoolmates' voices call and echo around her, trying to make sense of what was happening. A cool breeze ruffled her hair - and it struck her. She hurried back to the main area.

"It's not just the doors and windows! The vents, guys, there's air coming in from outside!"

ā€œPick the lock?ā€ Edward let out a sarcastic laugh as he shot a look at Carter to see if his friend was serious. It was apparent that he was. Sighing, Edward stood back up straight and leaned against the wall behind them, raising an eyebrow at Carter as he shrugged his shoulders to prepare for another battering against the stubbornly still door. ā€œI have learned how to play rugby, lacrosse, tennis, soccer and basketball,ā€ He started, a playful grin that didnā€™t reach his eyes crossing his face, ā€œbut Iā€™ve never taken any classes in lock picking.ā€ Turning sideways towards the door once more, Edward scrunched his face up as he rushed against it again, grunting as pain shot through his arm to no result once again. ā€œFor fuckā€™s sake!ā€ Kicking his foot against the door, Edward crouched down on the floor, rocking back and forth on the tip of his toes as he muttered into his clenched hands. He couldnā€™t do this; something was wrong. What is happening here? Edward cursed again and stood up, pacing back and forth in the small corridor before finally rounding towards Carter, an uncharacteristic look on his face.
ā€œLook,ā€ Edward started, licking his lips once as he looked at his friend as long as he could until his eyes flickered away once more, ā€œI know that this shit is extremely hard for you to comprehend and I feel for your loss.ā€ He let out a sigh and let a hand fall on Carterā€™s shoulders, his hand clenching hard as he tried to convey the pain that laced through his own heart at the very moment. ā€œBut weā€™ve got to move on if we want to survive. We canā€™t just stick ourselves in this mall for the rest of time, can we? No one will know weā€™re gone, possibly- and I need to get to my parents.ā€ Letting his hand fall back to his side, Edward let out a long sigh as he tried to find the words once again. They had not come out of his mouth as he had wanted them to; they were off from what he wanted to convey. But try as he might, the sentiment could not come to Edward as his throat dried and his mouth became parched, his throat tugging into the back of his esophagus as he tried to speak again. Before he could, tears filled the sides of his eyes and caused Edward to turn his head away in a rush, covering it with a hand as he coughed awkwardly.
Why did this have to happen? He thought, cursing all the entities that controlled the events that occurred on earth, wishing that he had never left his house that morning. That he had given in to the usual morning laziness everyone felt rather than packing up and making his way to the bus stop. That his mother had told him to stay home and prepare for his fatherā€™s arrival rather than rushing him off to school. If so, everything would have been so much better. Edward would not have had to seen his friends die one by one only till the point that all but three were gone. ā€œSorry,ā€ Pretending to cough, Edward sniffled slightly as he let his hand fall, blinking his watery eyes as he glared up at the ceiling. ā€œI just- Iā€¦ I donā€™t know whatā€™s going to happen.ā€ Looking helplessly at Carter, Edward shook his head as he placed his hands on his hips, letting out a long sigh as he turned towards the door once more. ā€œEverything happened so quick and it just feels as if nothing has reallyā€¦sunk in. Iā€™m so sorry about your loss, mate.ā€ It was a mutual loss, one that Edward would keep close to his heart, as he had been a close friend with Carter and his sister for many long years.
But now was the time to move on. As the sound of hail continued to pelt down against the metal and concrete protective layers that surrounded them, the countdown to having the ceiling cave in was slowly ticking down with unknown digits. Sniffling once more, Edward closed his eyes and banished all the thoughts that had suddenly swam forth, blocking them out as best as he could so that he could focus on the task at hand. The one that faced him but a meter and a half away- the one he needed Carterā€™s help with. ā€œIf you know how to pick a lock, go ahead. If you canā€™t, letā€™s just bust it down. With you and I, Iā€™m sure we can do it.ā€.

Life was a mystery from beginning to end. There were questions left unanswered at every corner and major intersection. There were doubts about the simplest of life's moments. People weren't always able to understand that or really accept that. That was probably the situation that everyone in this mall was going through right now. No one was able to understand why in the world this was happening to them. No one was able to understand what was going on and what was going to happen next. It was a terrifying situation. There was nothing more terrifying than not being able to answer the question of what in the hell is going to happen next?

Suffering was nothing more than an evil game that nature was spitefully playing with this handful of teens. Down in the depths of their guts was a twisting that reminded that every living breath around them quickly escaped the mouths of their friends. Carter was certainly feeling the pain. His sister had released her last breath in a bus that was meant to keep them safe. It did the opposite. It put them in danger. They were all in danger. Carter was terrified that he would end up like his sister. Vulnerable to the world around him. Left as a victim of natureā€™s demise.

As Carter stood by watching Edward ram his own body into a door that refused to budge, the thought was finally sinking into his brain. The twisting was developing in his gut. The churning was getting too much for him to deal with. As Edward tried to console his friend with a hand on his shoulder, the emotion was just too much to bear for Ed himself. Tears rolled down Edā€™s face, he attempted to turn away but he was too late. Carter was able to see the pain and tears seeping through him. Carter knew that he was worried about his family, he felt it was slightly insensitive being that his sister had just passed but everyone was in some sort of pain.

Carter wanted to break down and die. He wanted to lie down on the ground and stop breathing. He wanted to get hit by a train. He wanted to run back into the hail and let it impale him until his last breath was beat out of him violently. But he couldnā€™t. His best friend was depending on him. His family was depending on him. If he wasnā€™t going to do it for himself, he was going to do it for his sister. So that she wouldnā€™t have died in vain. He nodded at Edward and prepared his shoulder to use it as a battering ram.

He positioned his body to aim right at the door. Lock picking was definitely something that Carter was capable of doing. Itā€™s something he learned a few years ago when he was a younger rebel. But it figures that Carter didnā€™t have time to pick locks, at least Edward didnā€™t think so. He ran towards the door, having it creak just slightly. He kicked at the door knob a few times. Carter knew a bullet to the lock would definitely get the door open but that wasnā€™t an option here. Edward and Carter would have to knock down the door together. Two strong shoulders should do the trick. The door would open to a room full of machines, levers and knobs that controlled the entire building. The room that would light the Network back up. That room would allow the stranded students to connect with the outside world. The room that held their survival.

[center] Virgis heard Delaney walk over and herd her say, Hey. Finn. Don't go passing out on us. Virgis wiped more barf on his jacket when Delaney pulled him up. Virgis was staring blankly still. He'd always done that... If he was left alone too long, he would get so lost in his thoughts, that people couldn't pull him out. Virgis stumbled while Delaney pulled on him, trying to get him to go. He complied, moving on his own a bit.

Then Virgis smelled it... He couldn't tell what it was. For a second he thought the compounds had already reached them. That made him nearly stop for a second, but then he figured it out. It wasn't compounds; It was blood. Adrien's barfed up blood. Also, probably Virgis's barf. It smelled worse than barn animal crap. The smell brought Virgis out of his daze, and he was able to walk on his own.

He realized Delaney was helping clean him... Virgis was friends with Delaney... Still though, he could tell they all saw him as the younger kid... What was she cleaning? Blood or barf? Probably both. Then he heard something- a laugh?- and Delaney gestured to Adrien, asking him for help. Virgis realized he'd lost blood. Since Delaney and Virgis were next to the bathroom, he just went inside. Adrien seemed out of it, and Virgis felt he should just get away from him.

He turned on the sink, and was thankful it was still working, and started washing his face, and hands. He cleaned the blood and barf off of most of himself, and looked in the mirror. Virgis felt anger... This was so screwed up. He'd never barfed for a reason other than being really sick. He'd never had people's blood on me. People that were dead. Virgis shivered. He had to show some strength... Delaney just had to help him up and clean him with Kleenex! There was a lot wrong with that, in his opinion. He should've been able to do it all himself. It's not like he's been through more than... Not like he's had trouble...
