Outside his family, only a handful of people had the chance to see Mikiya in his true appearance, due to him having to take on many disguises in order to keep his identity as confidential as possible. But those who had the pleasure to have seen him almost always will comment that he is truly an attractive and charismatic man, a perfect example of how people during the prime of their lives should be. But what can he say? It is simply another thing that has been running in the Kaneshiro family for generations, aside from their empathetic abilities.

With his job strict requirement in resilience, adeptness and flexibility, getting out of shape is a complete taboo for Mikiya. Which is why vigorous training has become a daily part of his life, resulted in his perfectly-toned body. The most eye-catching feature of him, though, is probably his white hair - the very sign that signifies the members who was born with power within his clan. It is also the part that Mikiya is proudest in, as it reminds him of his honor as a Kaneshiro, and would never change or dye them no matter which disguises he takes. His amber eyes are also quite striking at first look, but more often than not, some people say that there is something within those eyes of his that is hard to grasp.

Mikiya has a surprisingly fashionable tastes when it comes to his own attires, which is something he has spent honing over the years of taking up disguises after disguises. He knows exactly what to dress in which setting as not to come out as out of place. But outside works, Mikiya prefers casual styles that he is most comfortable in, most notable a simple white shirt, gray trousers and a pair of slip-ons.

What exactly Mikiya is like as a person, you ask? Well, you are not the first one to come up to him with the question, and certainly won't be the last. But always, he would replied with an ambiguous smile, and with a 'Why don't you find out about that by yourself?' before he swayed you into something else entirely. It is a known fact that the job of a spy is simply to fool people, to mess with their sense of discernment over which is true and which is false. Not only an espionage expert must know how to alter their appearances, their capability to take on different personalities is a matter of life and death. And for Mikiya, it is no different. Masks after masks, he had switched between them so many times that people may wonder if he is suffering from split personalities disorder himself. But the truth is, when you have peeled off the layers of his perfect facade, what you shall find may not seem as complicated, though it will definitely nowhere near easy to grasp.

First and foremost, Mikiya was raised to be a good person. He is a good son to his parents, a good brother to his sister, a good uncle to his nephew, and a good heir to the clan's elders. He is a chivalrous man, who exudes an aura of calmness and bears a genuine heart that wishes nothing but kindness to others. Taking care of those around him is an all-time favorite past time of him, and never would he be seen without a gentle smile on his face. He treats everyone with respect, and never turn down their needs as long as they are within reasons and his abilities. With or without his ability at works, Mikiya understands people's feelings well, and is quite sensible in dealing with them. He is a truly a man anyone would find pleasant to be around.

Yet, he was also raised to be a spy, and a prominent one at that. This fact alone is enough to say a lot about him. Despite being bestowed with the ability to tamper with emotions, Mikiya does not allows his or anyone's personal feelings to interfere with what he has planned, sticking completely to logic and radical reasoning, Rather, it is because he bears such power within him that he cannot allow them to hinder him, since he understands the way they work all too well. Mikiya has a keen sense of intuition, and can pick out details from the smallest hints. Collecting all the information, gather and piecing them together, and come to the most reasonable conclusion. Such is the way Mikiya always acts. Whether he looks like it or not, he never stops planning his every move, so that he will always have the upper hand. He has no qualms in using anything in his convenience, if it means he can get the job done. Mikiya is not without his own morals, he will not harm innocents and bystanders, and even if it is necessary to do so in his viewpoint, he will try to reduce the casualty to the minimum. But when certain that he has all the rights to execute his job, Mikiya will strike down anyone standing on his path, be it friends or foes, mercilessly.

Mikiya's view on how the world works may come off as foolish and cruel to others, but since he was but a youngster, he has taken up the ideal that for the welfare of the many, at times, the sacrifice of the few is inevitable. There is no such thing as a scenario where all can found salvation. The current state of the world they are living in is a constant battle for the fittest, and only the best can survive. And no matter who it is, everyone is but a mere pawn to one another, struggling against each other to become the master of the chessboard. It is simply the cruelty of life, which Mikiya himself is no exception.

A kind and ordinary man who finds joy in the simplest of things in his everyday life, or a sophisticated man who would hold nothing back in pursuit of the flawless completion of what he is ordered to do, which one is the true Mikiya to you? It is a question that you yourself must decide the answer if you wanted to know.

┍━━━━━━━━. APTITUDE' ━━━━━━━━┑

QUIRKS ; Hair-tying - Normally, Mikiya tends to let his hair loose, but whenever he gets to action, he would tie it up. It's easy to understand why, after all / Arms-crossing - Whenever he stands he usually kept his arms crossed. He regards jokingly that this as a stance which he can show off his 'coolness' to others.

LIKES ; Reading - Mikiya spends a huge part of his free time reading. It's a common sight to see him sitting on the couch drinking a cup of espresso while indulging in some sorts of complex encyclopedia. He likes reading so much that it wouldn't be wrong to call him a moving library. / Meditating - To meditate and collect his thoughts at least twice per day is a mean for him to relax. He also often does this after using his ability.

DISLIKES ; Untidiness - Mikiya has a bit of an OCD over cleanliness. He cannot stand if a single object is a couple of inches away from its' designated place, and often cleans his place at least twice a day. / Tardiness - While very patient, Mikiya is a punctual man, and would always arrive before a meeting at least 10 minutes. More often than not he would give those with the habit to be late an earful from time to time.

STRENGTHS ; Resourceful - Being a spy means that Mikiya must always be versatile and knows how to react whenever unexpected problems occur. He also has vast knowledge in many kinds of field, so one can call him a 'Jack-of-all-trades'. / Eloquent - Mikiya was gifted with an uncommon sense of charisma through his persuasive speeches, and is capable of turning the tides of the favors to his own through this, while gaining the trust of those he was sent to spied on.

FLAWS ; Teamwork - Having worked all by himself his whole life, Mikiya will have a hard time fitting into jobs that require too many people at once. He believes that it would only slow himself down considerably. / Adamant - He stands firmly on the ground where he stood and is not easily swayed to change his view otherwise.

┍━━━━━━━━━. POWER' ━━━━━━━━━┑

Mikiya is an empath, meaning that he holds the ability to tell what others are feeling, no matter how elaborate their mask, which allows him to attack people on a personal level. Having been trained by his family's elders since his childhood and having utilized it for a good twenty years, it goes without saying Mikiya can control his power like it was but another extended part of his body, though not at the fullest extent of it yet. His power allows him to feel the emotions of people within an area as large as an amusement park, and up to hundreds of people at once, effectively making him a walking presence detector. He can switch his power on and off at his leisure, and renders all lies meaningless before him. To a degree, Mikiya can also forcefully manipulate the emotions of others, like bringing up the worst trauma of their lives, but this power is not very reliable and tends to backfire if his target is either too emotional or stoic.

Mikiya's family was originally known as Kanzaki, but changed into Kaneshiro when they become the few of the Sixty-Nines that survived the nuclear cataclysm nearly a century ago. They are nowhere the only clan with empathetic abilities among their line, and their prowess is not as impressive as some other people with super powers like them. But with this emergence, they went on to become one of the most prominent intelligence force in the world, as no one can detect them nor find out about their identities after they have finished the job they were given to. Members of the family who are gifted always will have white hair when they are born, and they would be trained vigorously and intensely, until they become enforcers of defense in the name of their nation.

BACKSTORY

A life surrounded in adventures and actions, filled with conspiracies and betrayal. That would be a way to put Mikiya's life in short. But of course, being born into a family of spies means that his life would be anything but normal.

Despite not bearing the gift for the family's power, Mikiya's father, Sourenji, was one of the most outstanding member of the clan back when he was younger. He had accomplished many feats that had helped the nation in pushing off invasions and corruption within Japan, which is still in the progress of picking up the pieces despite the incident have passed by for so long. He is married to his wife Izumi who, surprisingly, is also another empath growing up in an orphanage. They loved each other dearly although they do not have many chances to see each other, while having to keep their profiles low to most people. Eventually, they gave birth to their first child, Mikiya.

High expectations have already been placed upon the young infant the moment his white hair become visible. As early as four years old, Mikiya has already began to develop his power, and has been put through extensive training. Other children at such age are still allowed to be carefree, and to enjoy the love of those around them as much as they want, but for Mikiya, his path has already been destined, and that is to continue to uphold his family's long tradition. Sometimes, he was jealous of the normal lives of those at his age around him, he yearned to be able to do ordinary things and live an ordinary life, but knowing what responsibility was placed upon him, he shrugged those thought all off. He had sacrificed his youth, for the smiles and the normal lives of others, and he was contented for it. His ideal originated starting here, and is still a driven force that guides him through his every way.

At the age of 6, Mikiya was no longer alone as he once was when his sister, Aoko, was born. Her birth was considered to be peculiar, as there have been few records of a second child also bearing the gift of empathy. But before they could rejoice, Sourenji was reported to be missing during a mission and was assumed dead. The news shocked the whole family, but there was but little time for them to mourn, as they must move on. Mikiya had sworn that he will continue where his father had left off, and bring pride to his clan, just like he once did.

His training went on for another six long years, before Mikiya was sent to his very first missions. Though still uncertain and fearful for his life, he had managed to accomplish them well. Assignments after assignments, he was no longer the child that those of his age should be, but more like a machine perfectly and logically built for espionage. He was born for it, and it is the only purpose of his life. It was not very long afterwards that Aoko was also sent to accompany Mikiya, and her own missions. Years after years, he and his sister are the looked after each other's backs and saved each other countless of times as they were sent to different lands all over the world. Life really was just simple as that for Mikiya, if you can even call it simple.

Aoko met and was married to a young weapon specialist also working for the Japanese government named Satsuki. At first, Mikiya was distrustful towards the man, being an overprotective brother that he is, but welcomed him into the family when he saw that there is now another one to look after her for him. Only a year later, and he is greeted with the newest addition to the family, his nephew Hatake. As Aoko had to take a temporary retire to take care of her son and train him as he grew up, most assignments are now Mikiya to take care, and so he was rarely home. But when he does, he felt like he was in heaven, surrounded by the only ones whom he can shed his deceitful shell off.

And so, as the year 2113 comes, the Kaneshiro family received a call from a foreign land that they they never thought they would saw again. The message from the call was simple, and that is to send one of them to Berlin, the capital of Germany, where apparently something of a grave nature is going on that the Sixty-Nines, or rather, their descendants, are needed again. After much deliberation between the elders of the family, they have ultimately decided that there is no one better to answer the call than Mikiya himself.

Despite having skepticism, and because this may the longest period that Mikiya had to stay away from home, he had had thoughts about accepting the request to be sent to the land so far away. But with much reassurances from his beloved ones, Mikiya decided to throw it all behind, placing his belief in the strong words of his family. With no hesitations in his steps, Mikiya took on a disguise, faking his identity, and embark on a plane towards Berlin, with the anticipation of how will the course of the world will change.

So begins...

"Arend? Are you all right?"

Arend Schmitz stared blankly at the wall in front of him, refusing to turn around to face the one who had spoken to him. His life was stolen from him since birth, as he was forced into upholding his ancestor's dream of annihilating the Sixty-Nine. His ancestors moved out of Berlin ninety years ago, and now the Schmitzes were secluded in their base, in a place they were not allowed to speak of, dedicated to destroying any descendant of someone who received powers from the radiation of the Nuking ninety-three years ago.

He turned to spare a glance at his assistant - what was his name? Arend couldn't recall. "It's 11:20 CET," he mumbled - his family and those who worked for them were forced to calculate time in CET, the time zone Germany was located in. They were truly obsessed. "I must go. Krista is waiting." Arend's younger sister was significantly more enthusiastic about Winifred Schmitz's legacy than he was.

He walked towards the Main Room numbly - the strawberry blonde was indeed waiting for him, a sadistically ecstatic expression on her face that made Arend's heart clench. "Three minutes," she reminded her brother gleefully.

He nodded.

"Hurry the fuck up, will you -"

"Cool your shit, Schreiber, I'm doing the best I can! This goddamned distress signal was never needed - believe it or not, you arrogant ass, no one's a professional at setting this fucking device up, so I'm your best shot right now! So if you want to save your little friends, you can just shut the fuck up!"

Ivo Schreiber grit his teeth and bit his tongue, refusing to look at the technician who was currently fiddling with the device that was supposedly going to send out the distress signal apparently anybody important understood. He knew that said technician - Caoilfhionn Höfler was her name - was the best by far in her area (read: hacking into classified government files while working with tech ahead of its time), but the current situation was still frustrating nonetheless.

Finally, sheer panic overtook Ivo. "They've released their invisible beasts seven minutes ago," he hissed at Caoilfhoinn, his voice portraying his frantic mentality. "Are you sure you can't go any faster?"

"No need," true to form, Caoilfhoinn was calm as ever as she finished rigging up the device. "It's done." She opened the keypad, rapidly typing in a code. A few seconds later, a very faint but very strange sounded emanated through the air as the area around the device seemed to bend, soon restoring to its original shape.

"It's a sound wave," Caoilfhoinn explained nonchalantly. "Tuned to a frequency only the descendants can hear properly - you can probably hear something really faint though. Unlike a normal sound wave though, this sound wave also bends the light as it travels through space; that's why the building looked like we were looking at it through a distorting mirror just moments before. For the descendants though, it'll be colored black, red, and yellow - kinda like wisps of light." She stood up, brushing invisible dust off her pants. "If they're any residents in Berlin, they'll be coming in in under an hour - unfortunately, for anyone else, it'll take up to a few days. Not ideal, but we've done our best."

Ivo furrowed his brows. "I suppose," he agreed reluctantly.

It's been six hours since Yeong-ji had first sat down at her piano. It wasn't some impressive grand piano that had the best sound in the world; no, Yeong-ji got it for free off of Craigslist since she couldn't afford to pay for one. Personally, Yeong-ji thought it was decent quality - of course, not the best in the world, but definitely sufficient for her needs.

Yeong-ji played Revolutionary Étude for the second time in a row, faintly picking up the ticking clock in the background. She ended the song, lifting her head to stare blankly at the cracked clock on the wall. 11:33. Is it seriously almost noon?

If Yeong-ji were anybody else would higher hopes in life, than she would feel disgusted over her current living conditions. It wasn't like she was unhygienic, but at the end of the day, she lived in a single-room apartment with a tiny mattress on the ground and worn down belongings. She lived off of a... poor diet, to say the least. Siegfried von Essen had been kind enough to pay for Yeong-ji's rent in the past, but now that she worked part-time, it was easy for her to take over the rent for her low quality apartment. Yeong-ji took care of herself; Siegfried was her guardian on paper, but only because she was still a minor.

He helped pay the bills, sometimes. He was more than tolerable, at this point in life.

(At least Yeong-ji didn't have to spend money on something like insurance or something.)

Yeong-ji felt the keys of her instrument once again, preparing to dive into Winter Wind when her playing was interrupted. Yeong-ji clenched her jaw and bit the inside of her cheek as a sharp and horrendously strange frequency pierced the air. She proceeded to begin the song, slamming her hand on the keys when a reddish, blackish, yellowish ripple of light messed up her figure placement.

Any normal person might be freaking out over the strange sound and strange light, but not Yeong-ji. Nope, she was just frustrated that something had interrupted her six hour binge-playing.

"What the fuck," Yeong-ji muttered, standing up abruptly as she stared at the rippling light with her stone-cold gaze. She was done for the day - there was no way she could continue with her concentration broken. "Thank you very much, light beam, for fucking up my piano playing for today." As usually, Yeong-ji's voice wasn't saturated with sarcasm or anger; just the cynically dull tone she's been using ever since she could speak.

Yeong-ji squinted at the light as it decided to glide on over through her wall into the room next door. Huh.

"When you hear the call, leave Munich and go to Berlin. Go to the hospital; if the receptionist's surname is Schreiber, tell them your name. That is all."

The cryptic last words of Yeong-ji's father had made no sense seven years ago (not like they did now.) But he did say some strange things for the eight years of life he had spent with Yeong-ji... frequency infinity, light wave, flag of Germany, etc.

Well, there was definitely a weird sound frequency, a weird light wave, and the very coincidental color combination of Germany's flag.

This was the call - Yeong-ji knew that for sure.

She sighed. "Time to leave Munich for the first time in my life." She started sifting through the pile of clothes she had kept in the corner of her mattress. "Impulsive decisions are fucking stupid." Yeong-ji picked up her only bag, staring at the hole in the corner before shoving a pair of clothes in. "Have I officially gone insane?" Yeong-ji squinted at her clock - 11:35 - as she continued packing absentmindedly. "How convenient is that - I can buy a ticket for a three hour train from Munich to Berlin for under 30 euros. Has society advanced at all since a century ago?"

Yeong-ji pulled out the oh-so-precious iPhone 5 Karl and Siegfried had given her a few years back (bless their souls, really, they deserve better than this), catching the faint wifi connection from the building across the street, scanning through the available train seats from München Hauptbahnhof to Berlin. Yeong-ji may be the actual definition of a homebody, but she actually didn't live under the rock and was completely up-to-date with whatever happening in Germany and the world. She was aware of the overabundance of unbooked seats in the trains, despite no small amount of tourists booking their tickets.

Yeong-ji noticed the upcoming train ride at 12:06, quickly booking a ticket before grabbing her bag loaded with basically everything she owned, including all her money. It wasn't too bad, really; Munich didn't really have as much as a pickpocketing problem than some other European countries.

Usually, Yeong-ji wasn't this impulsive; she was brutally realistic and didn't make significant on-the-fly decisions such as the one she was making at the moment. But frankly, Yeong-ji didn't really care anymore. It didn't really matter to her that this was Yeong-ji's first time going out of Munich (and that she managed to pack in under ten minutes). Besides, the train was thirty euros - she'd earn it back somehow.

Image

B E R L I N , X G E R M A N Y

Yeong-ji had to be blind not the notice the occasional lingering stares she received. Most of them were from foreigners. Yeong-ji couldn't blame them; she did kind of look like a runaway teen. Except less... goth. And a lot more malnourished.

Yeong-ji assessed Germany's capital city from the train platform, deciding to head to her destination when she realized: she didn't even know where her destination was. Her father never specified which hospital. Yeong-ji wanted to bang her head against the wall; there was no way in hell she was going to go to every hospital in Berlin.

Then again, she had her phone; it was Berlin, there was probably free wifi everywhere. Yeong-ji could simply search up the doctor's name in some... doctor-finding site.

As crazy as it sounded, it actually worked, and Yeong-ji started fast-walking towards Bundeswehrkrankenhaus. It was nearly a mile away from the train station, and Yeong-ji wasn't very fond of physical activity, but there was no way she would pay for a taxi ride to somewhere under a mile away.

Finally, about fifteen minutes later, Yeong-ji arrived at the hospital, practically slamming the door open. She briskly walked up to the front desk, where only one person was speaking to the receptionists. To her surprise, there was indeed a receptionist with the name tag Rosamunda Schreiber, a tall woman with brownish-blonde hair and full-on heterochromia who looked a bit more anxious than the others.

"Um..." Yeong-ji shuffled up to the front desk, catching the attention of Rosamunda. Said woman gave the girl a slightly weary customer service smile.

"Do you have an appointment?" she asked, scooting towards her computer. Yeong-ji coughed slightly, eyes flickering off to the side before awkwardly speaking up again.

"Uh... my name is Yeong-ji. Yeong-ji Ilyse Kühn," the ruby-eyed girl muttered, feeling nothing short of uncomfortable. The receptionist was nodding along with her words - until Yeong-ji reached her surname. At that point, the receptionist froze, her demeanor darkening.

"Of course," she said somberly, standing up. "Follow me, Frau Kühn."

Yeong-ji would be lying if she said she wasn't completely fucking confused, but her late father's instructions seemed legit. She followed the woman, internally hitting herself for randomly following someone after they've said a few cryptic words.

"Ivo!" the brunette woman called out as she and Yeong-ji started straying from the bustling areas of the hospital and into hallways with empty rooms. A tall man with darker brown hair and mismatched eyes as well poked his head out of one of the rooms. "What is it?"

The woman - Rosamunda, Yeong-ji reminded herself - gestured towards the shorter girl. "First one," she said, lowering her voice. "She claims to be a Kühn."

There was an immediate shift in the man's demeanor. He extended a hand, which Yeong-ji shook awkwardly. "It's an honor to meet you, Frau Kühn," he said. "Ji-kyung Kühn's descendants have been living in hiding since the incident. We had doubts on whether or not the bloodline was still alive, but with you being here, it clearly is."

"Um... what?" Yeong-ji asked dumbly, not grasping the situation. Ivo's eyebrows furrowed. "You have an ancestor named Ji-kyung Kühn, correct?"

"Well, yeah, but no one likes to talk about her," Yeong-ji replied. Why the heck she was disclosing so much information, Yeong-ji didn't really know. "Taboo and all that shit." The wrinkle in Ivo's forehead seemed to grow deeper every second.

"Why are you here, Frau Kühn?" he asked suddenly. Yeong-ji raised an eyebrow, surprised. She shrugged.

"My father told me to go to Berlin when I 'hear the call' or some shit like that." Ivo still looked skeptical. Yeong-ji sighed, impatient. "Listen, there are a lot of secrets in my family. There's are certain people who know these secrets, and then they pass it along to those who've had their 'rite of passage' or something. The last person who probably knew these secrets is most likely my aunt, but she died twenty-three years ago."

Strangely, that seemed to be enough for Ivo. He nodded, leading Yeong-ji to a room. Ivo pressed his hand against the scanner on the wall, the door opening as he did so. Yeong-ji glanced around warily; the room was chock-full of fancy tech that shouldn't exist at humanity's current point of technological advancement.

"Wait here, Frau Kühn," this time, it was Rosamunda who spoke. "We'll be back shortly."

Tokyo, Japan

Somewhere, in a remote suburban site just on the outskirt of one of the once prosperous metropolises of the world - Tokyo. There was a large mansion built in traditional Japanese-style lying solely on a blasted land, which surprisingly, was once a lustrous forest before they were utterly reduced to ashes for who knows how long ago and sadly is still yet to recover. But on the contrary of the rather sorrowful scenery to behold, the weather is surprisingly nice. The sky was blue, the white clouds drifting by, the sun shining serenely. It sure gives people hope on their continuous journey of recovering from which that had teared their lands apart.

"Oji-san, oji-san." A young boy with hair as white as snow hastily ran through the hall with an excited expression on his face of the mansion towards the backyard, while calling for his uncle, who was sitting under the sakura tree, reading a book and drinking some green tea calmly, as if there is no care in the world.

"Hatake-kun, what is it?" Mikiya shifted his gaze from the book he was reading to his nephew, who had just arrived at the entrance to the backyard. His smile seemingly never fades from his lips.

"I finally manage to read someone today. Oji-san's tips work really well! Obaa-san is really pleased with me that she hadn't knocked me on the head for the whole morning!" Hatake enthusiastically approached his uncle and happily reported his little feat that he had just barely accomplished earlier.

"Is that so? Congratulations, and I'm so glad that my cute nephew is so good already." Mikiya smiled brightly and ruffled Hatake's hair, "Can you show me how you did it then? Go ahead and tell oji-san how he is feeling."

Hatake nodded with an innocent grin before closing his eyes and holding Mikiya's hand tightly, exhaling a deep breath of air while concentrated his mind on trying to read his uncle's feelings. Apparently, it took a great deal of effort out of the young boy whose ability was unlocked not so long ago, and is still pretty much hasn't been honed at all. But Hatake managed to get the results, eventually. "Hmm, oji-san is feeling really contented and happy right now. Am I correct, oji-san?"

"You couldn't be more right, Hatake-kun." Mikiya smiled and complimented his nephew, "You are super good. I couldn't manage to read anyone yet when I was your age. But don't slack off because of that and keep training hard everyday, okay? Don't let obaa-san knock on your head." He winked.

"Even though you probably won't be returning home any time soon with this mission, you're still surprisingly optimistic. Sometimes I wonder if you have extraordinary courage, or just foolhardy, nii." A tall, thin woman with short white hair entered the backyard, as she exhaled a breath from her cigarette, "This isn't going be like any other missions we've been sent to, y'know."

"Kaa-san, you're back!" Hatake happily chimed and skidded to his mother, at which she cuddled him with her hand. It seemed that she too had just returned from an assignment from the government.

"Aoko, welcome back." Mikiya stood up from where he sat and smiled with his sister, "So, you've just heard too, huh?"

"Of course, you forgot that I'm the most updated one in this family?" Aoko sneered, but her expression quickly tensed up, "Are you sure it is going to be fine? I won't even be thinking about your welfare if it is just our everyday tasks, but I've got a hunch something sinister is going on here, nii."

"Overprotective as ever, Aoko." Mikiya smiled and caressed his sister's chin, which seemingly eased her up, "Let's just think of this as our everyday tasks, okay? The elders are confident in my ability, and if they feel that only I can accomplish this, then I won't let anyone down."

Just last night, the elders of the Kaneshiro family received a strange "distressed call" all the way from Berlin, Germany. The atmosphere tensed up greatly within just hours, because there was never a call like this before. They only knew about it directly from the two members of their clan that survived the cataclysm a hundred year ago. But one thing for sure, to receive a distress call like this could only mean that nothing good is about to happen. Something huge that will not only affect the genetically modified community in Japan, but throughout the world as well.

An emergency meeting is held and they have ultimately decided that they will answer the call, and the one most suitable for this assignment is none other than the heir, and the most prominent member of the clan - Mikiya. And he had accepted it without a second thought.

Mikiya has finished prepared everything he needed for the upcoming trip. Because it's going to be a long one, so it ended up a lot more than he had anticipated. But not that it mattered much. He can always find a way to make it through the airport terminal without too much hassling. He looked into the mirror and add the final touches to his disguise and testing his voice modifier. This time, Mikiya is going to be a young businesswoman named Fujihara Makiko. For a trip abroad, this sure looks like a lot of works, but as one of the top secret agents of Japan, obviously he cannot afford to carelessly show his true identity.

Before entering the car that take him to the airport, Mikiya hugged and said goodbye to each of his family - his mother, sister and nephew. Coincidentally, his brother-in-law Satsuki is currently on a trip to Berlin so there is high chance that they will meet. With a promise that he will return before they know it, Mikiya departed with a silent prayer that everything is going to be fine. His family is all the he ever got, and he doesn't know what he will even do if harm comes to them.

Berlin, Germany

The trip from Tokyo to Germany was thankfully uneventful. As usual, none of the staffs in both airports question his identity. They are just making it too easy for him, as this was not any different than the missions he was sent to before. Well, he did have some problems with his luggage as they are admittedly catching attention, and it was a bit too much for Mikiya to handle himself. But nothing is going out of his hand, yet.

Normally, he would stop by a public toilet or something to dispose of his disguise already. But a part of his mind tempted him otherwise, so he just went on to search for the hospital he was supposed to head to under the disguise of Makiko by his phone. Berlin is nowhere a small city, so it did take a while, but eventually he made it there.

Walking in through the entrance of the hospital, Mikiya was immediately greeted by the receptionist, "Hello, miss. Do you have an appointment?"

"Yes, I was told that I was to find someone named Schreiber here." He went straight to the point, it seemed that she doesn't know that he is disguising, in the least. The receptionist nodded in acknowledgement, and only a moment later, another woman whom Mikiya assumed to be Dr. Schreiber arrived. "May I help you?"

"I am from the Kaneshiro family, and I have arrived on behalf of my family." Mikiya spoke in a rather convincing tone, and keep smiling as usual.

Dr. Schreiber narrowed her eyes in question of his statement, "Are you sure you are? I thought the one sent by the Kaneshiro is supposed to be male-"

"Is this enough of a proof?" Mikiya showed Dr. Schreiber a piece of paper with an insignia of the clan, which can only be acquired through the elders. Glancing through the paper, though still seemingly doubtful, the woman just nodded, "Follow me, miss Kaneshiro." She said as she led him through a long, winding hall, to a sanctuary of sorts locked by a hand-scanner. And inside the room, he was greeted with all sorts of out-of-the-world gadgets. Normal people would be surprised that these kinds of technology really exist, but not for Mikiya, as he had seen them more than once before.

Looking around, Mikiya saw two girls and two boys have already arrived before him. They all look considerably younger than him, and he can notices that a boy among them is also a Japanese. "Please wait here until further notice. There is still one more left to arrive, and that one should be here soon." Dr. Schreiber said to him, and he nodded. He carried with him all of his luggage to an empty chair nearby and set them aside, comfortably making himself at home - all while keeping his disguise as Mikako.

Even without using his ability, Mikiya can tell that the atmosphere is rather somber, and none of the four are actually interested in introducing themselves or getting to know each other right now, so he has no reason to force them to either. But secretly, he found this to be exceptionally interesting, and held much anticipation of how will the events will play out from now.

Yeong-ji's head shot up when the doors opened once again to reveal Ivo and Rosamunda, both of which looking rather disgruntled at the sight of some of their equipment on the floor, courtesy of the Frenchwoman who smelled like smoke. Five other people had arrived while Yeong-ji was waiting - three of them looked to be Asian, specifically Japanese, in some sense. Yay for racial diversity. They all looked to be older than herself as well.

"Welcome to Berlin," Ivo began, tone somber. He had spectacular English - Yeong-ji could barely detect any sort of German accent. "We apologize for summoning you here on such short notice. As some of you know, my name is Doctor Ivo Schreiber, and this is my sister, Doctor Rosamunda Schreiber. Before we continue, I would like to confirm that we all have the ability to communicate in English. If not -" the door opened once again, revealing a blonde woman who didn't have the same stern, serious expression on her face as the Schreibers "- well, we have her."

"I'm Caoilfhionn Höfler," the blonde woman interrupted the doctor's spiel. "I speak six languages - Irish Gaelic, German or Deutsche, French or français, Russian, English, and Korean. If this guy's English is too over the top, I'll play interpreter. Well, I can try. My Japanese can't compensate for this many Japanese people."

"Anyway," Ivo rushed to interrupt the blonde, his tone annoyed, "you six are the first descendants of the Sixty-Nine to arrive in Berlin. We are on a time crunch to evacuate people like you so that our enemy can't get to you. To minimize tragedy, we'll be forming small groups, small teams of people so that if we do indeed confront potential death, it won't affect as many descendants. You will be Team Schlüssel."

Schlüssel, Yeong-ji thought to herself. The German term for key.

"Now, about the threat which caused us to summon you here," the doctor gestured at a high tech screen at the front of the room, which pixelated from it's dark, dormant state to display profiles of multiple people. "If you have been properly informed about the Sixty-Nine, then you would've heard about these people." The screen zoomed in on one of the profiles. "This is Doctor Winifred Schmitz, one of the doctors stationed in Berlin during the Bombing of 2026. She operated on the eleven people who were retrieved from the rubble of Berlin, one of them being Ji-kyung Kühn, the original ancestor of the Kühn bloodline." Ji-kyung Kühn's name was one of the few things Yeong-ji could actually recognize from what Ivo Schreiber was saying. "She and her descendants are completely against the Sixty-Nine and their descendants. They ideology is that people like you should not exist, or else the balance of power would be weighed too heavily in favor of a small group of people. They want to annihilate the bloodlines affected by the radiation of the Bombing of 2026. To do so, her descendants and their supporters have released invisible and highly technical machines of sorts, at 10:26 AM UTC earlier today. These machines are attempting to track the descendants down at this moment. Do not worry though, for the moment, you are safe here. The Schmitzes despise Berlin, however, it'd be dangerous to stay for long. Based on the observations we have recorded on these beasts the Schmitzes have released, we have constructed an algorithm that determines areas we can flee to for the moment, as we train you six to properly fight any obstacle that gets in our way and ultimately defeat the Schmitzes."

Yeong-ji furrowed a brow at that statement. "Why us?" she questioned immediately, speaking German by instinct. "Why can't any of your other teams kick the Schmitzes asses, play hero for a li'l bit, and save the world? Is it 'cause we heeded your call the fastest or some shit like that?"

To Yeong-ji's surprise, Ivo perked up in an almost childishly excited state. "I was hoping you'd ask that," he said, responding in German before reverting back to English. "Our organization is focusing on you six as the leading force to defeat the Schmitzes. This is not because you are the first six to arrive in Berlin, but rather due to your abilities; it was merely a coincidence that the first six to arrive in Bundeswehrkrankenhaus have such diverse and powerful abilities." There was a look in the brunette's eyes that showed how interested he was in such a topic. "Let me explain: firstly, Ms. Kaneshiro -" Ivo furrowed a brow, muttering "- I thought the Kaneshiro representative was male -" or something like that in German. Rosamunda responded by shrugging and Yeong-ji looked at the pale-haired skeptically, doubting their gender as well (or maybe Kaneshiro was just androgynous - the past was so much simpler than modern times, in terms of gender and sexual identity).

"Ms. Kaneshiro," Ivo continued, "is a descendant of the Kaneshiro bloodline, who are master empaths. Such an ability is an emotional power, not a material one such as ice manipulation or anything of the like; this will prove to be incredibly useful in such a mission."

"I have never seen an Asian woman as tall as you - ever," Yeong-ji cut the brunette man off, directing a dry remark towards Kaneshiro. "Not being racist, but even European models don't usually reach... 183 or so." Yeong-ji's gaze flickered towards Ivo, who was actually surprisingly patient, even at this point. "Sorry, continue on."

"Regardless of Ms. Kaneshiro's gender," Ivo took off exactly where he last left off, "those with abilities in the emotional or mental side of things don't quite match up to those with abilities such as material manipulation. Speaking of material manipulation, the Laurents -" Yeong-ji was suddenly reminded of Frenchwoman with the lighter "- have been known for being skilled at manipulating fire, a rather volatile element, but were notorious for having a somewhat... lack of control, which, being said in a blunter manner, ultimately led to their demise."

There was a pause of silence before the blonde from earlier muttered, "Dang, Ivo, that fuckin' ruined the mood."

"Nonetheless," Ivo continued, ignoring Höfler, "we will be training you to increase your overall skill at your ability, so lack of sufficient control should be overcame at some point. Moving on! Akihiko Ito, descendant of the Cohens. Like empathy, precognition is not a material or physical skill, and is definitely considered rare. However, it's a difficult skill to harness completely; nonetheless, we have devised methods to increase control of the ability. Right now, if Akihiko has any sort of vision, we can maximize its benefits by merely being observant. And I'm sure all of you have heard of Sven Gundersen, in some way, shape or form." The brunette man gave said speedster a tight smile. "I'll admit, we weren't very happy when you exposed your power in public, but you were young. Besides, what's in the past can't be undone. We can't turn back time."

"Wait," Höfler interrupted once again. Ivo looked like he wanted to punch a wall. "I distinctly remember you ranting about how intriguing the bloodline with time manipulation is just a few days ago. So technically, it's possible to turn back time?"

"It's not that simple, but I won't go into the specifics right now," Ivo snapped. "If we could turn back time, we wouldn't want to anyway. Anyway, Satoshi Chiba -" he gestured to the other Japanese person who looked like he could be about thirteen years old "- descendant of the Chiba bloodline with the power of invisibility. With this ability, one could sneak into a government building, for instance, and they wouldn't be able to be tracked."

"Are you training them to become criminals?"

"Caoilfhionn," Ivo muttered through gritted teeth. The blonde shrugged nonchalantly, but allowed Ivo to finish speaking.

"And lastly," Ivo's eyes zeroed in on Yeong-ji, which made her back up in her seat a little bit. "Yeong-ji Kühn. Descendant of Ji-kyung Kühn herself, the original shadow manipulator." Ivo whipped his gaze up to face the others, jabbing a finger in Yeong-ji's direction. "To be in the presence of a shadow manipulator of the Kühn bloodline is even rarer than meeting your true love and both of you dying from the same type of cancer on their birthday after both of you turn one hundred. Take that in."

There was a moment of silence as Ivo steeped in his nerdy excitement. "Sorry," Rosamunda finally spoke up, "he can be a bit of a... fanboy, at times."

"That's oddly specific, you know," Yeong-ji muttered. "But probably true. I don't like... socializing."

"Do you know the full extent of your abilities, Frau Kühn?" Ivo asked intensely.

"I don't even know the partial extent of my abilities, or even what they are, much less the full extent of them."

"Oh, lord," Ivo muttered, sounding exasperated. Suddenly, an excited look appeared in his eyes that made Yeong-ji feel like she was going to be a lab rat.

"This means," Ivo said slowly, "that as a blank slate, we can mold you into practically anything, in terms of your powers!" Ivo clasped his hands together. "This is brilliant." He then turned back to Yeong-ji, who was still not fully comprehending the situation. "You can manipulate things through shadows. For instance, if someone was holding a pen, you wouldn't be able to directly manipulate them through their physical matter; however, you would be able to use your own shadow to in turn, manipulate the person's shadow, which would actually make the physical matter creating said shadow be affected by the manipulation in the same way its shadow is. Using this method, you could potentially use your own shadow to make that person commit suicide with the pen that they're holding."

That's actually very dark, Yeong-ji mused over the part of the explanation she could actually understand. "Deutsche," she said succinctly. Ivo was temporarily shaken out of his excitement, thinking for a few moments before being able to translate what he just said into German. "Ah," Yeong-ji said, reverting back to English, her tone neutral. "Sounds fun."

"I'm sure it probably is," Ivo said, a sentence which would concern some people about his mental state. "However, I can infer that you probably have no semblance of control over this ability. Never fear, though. Once we train all of you, you six will be extremely powerful, with the surefire ability of defeating the Schmitzes. Now, going back to what I said earlier about leaving Berlin, Caoilfhionn here has the results for the current ideal place to go to."

The room of people stared at the blonde expectantly, who seemed to not be paying attention. A few moments passed by, until she looked up, noticing everybody staring at her. "Ah, yes," she said, opening a notebook. "As of right now, Saint Petersburg is most ideal. I think we can stay there for up to ten days, but any longer would jeopardize us." The blonde shut her notebook. "The population's pretty high, and I have connections who can help us. However, the city's easy to navigate, so it's going to be harder to lose the Schmitzes' machines if they come after us."

The Schreibers nodded along with Höfler's words. Rosamunda spoke up once again. "We'll take questions right now, but it's ideal for us to pack up and leave as soon as possible. There's a flight going to Saint Petersburg is about four hours. We can book tickets after questions."

Berlin, Germany

Satoshi watches as other people arrive, shrinking into the corner more as the room grows more crowded. He easily recognizes Sven Gunderson from an article he'd read years ago, though the others he doesn't know. When the tiny French girl knocks over the probably-expensive equipment on the table in the center of the room, Satoshi cringes and curls up in a ball, making a mental note to avoid her whenever possible. She doesn't seem like the kind of persoon he wants to cross. It isn't too long before the two others arrive - both of them Japanese, which eases Satoshi a little, before he realizes one is a very pretty lady whom he could never ever speak to for fear of embarrassing himself and the other is frightening in general. xx
Eventually, however, the two Doctors return and begin to explain everything, though it's all still confusing as Hell. Satoshi listens with rapt attention as Ivo Schreiber talks about the 2026 Bombing, which Satoshi knew about but had never thought was so important. It all makes sense now that he's hearing it: how they all got their powers. It's something his family never taught him, for whatever reason. Mother must have wanted to protect me from it all. Maybe I really shouldn't have come. Ivo describes each of their capabilities in turn and Satoshi offhandedly wonders if it can be considered impolite to tell the group everyone's personal business rather than let them all open up about it themselves. It seems much like a breach of privacy. xx
"Satoshi Chiba-" Ivo says, pointing at Satoshi and startling him despite the knowledge that eventually the topic would fall to him. "-descendant of the Chiba bloodline with the power of invisibility. With this ability, one could sneak into a government building, for instance, and they wouldn't be able to be tracked." I'd really rather not... Satoshi keeps his thoughts quiet, and Ivo continues on. It isn't until he gets to Yeong-ji - the pretty girl with black hair and a tired face - that Satoshi actually finds himself concerned about this predicament. A person with the ability to make someone kill themself? Sure, people can be incredibly manipulative and convincing, but a power like that...Satoshi wants nothing to do with it. He doesn't want to stay. xx
So when Ivo finally stops his lecture and asks if anyone has questions, Satoshi slowly raises his hand. Ivo smiles brightly at him. "Yes?" "Um...can I go home?" "Er...no." Satoshi breathes out a sigh. Not like he wants to go back tt his family, not really. And staying will keep him safe, if what Ivo says is true, so why not? I can always just sneak away later, I suppose. xx

Akihiko decided that he didn’t like Ivo. Perhaps a little, that comes with morbid fascination, but the plans he had for them sends shivers down his spine. What a dangerous, interesting fellow. Was this what everyone was going to be like in the outside world? That man was a genius, no doubt, but a dangerous one, his mind quick but churning with bone chilling ideas that seemed to take no regard at the consequences. Then again, many had described him the same way. The irony was not lost on Akihiko, even as his long fingers nervously tightened on the hem of his shirt. He explained all their abilities soon after, and his eyes brightened with interest, flitting to each of them as everyone was introduced. Most of them looked like teenagers around his age, except for the lady(?) whose gender was openly questioned by the girl, Yeong-ji. He tilted his head at the both of them, eyes scanning the lady again, unabashedly. “You’re right actually! But you look very pretty if you were a guy.” A cheerful smile spread across his face, golden eyes seemed to grow warm as his body loosened up. Maybe this wouldn’t be too bad after all.

He was wrong as usual of course. Life and fate, especially his own, was like a cruel mistress with a sadistic streak of making things go wrong in twos and threes. In retrospect Akihiko really should’ve know that life was going to hit him with another curveball, one that came in the form of a vision minutes after the scientist uttered ‘St Petersburg’. And all of a sudden, he was there. Akihiko knew enough about the world from television and movies, and he recognised the streets, european buildings, the people milling about. But something was wrong. He could feel it in the pit of his stomach, a clenching foreboding feeling of incoming danger. Whirling around, he did a full circle as he looked for the source of the threat, before his golden eyes finally landed on shining metal and whirling gears.

The first impression Akihito had was that it came straight out of his nightmares. The many stories that has been uttered to him in darkened rooms by his parents, the hushed half threats of ‘don’t go out there alone or the monsters will get you, boy’ that had faded in its importance as he grew Came back crashing into him like waves of terror. This was it, this was where he died. The Metal Monster loomed amongst the crowd, but they seemed completely unaware of it. It almost seemed like a twisted surreal horror film, how couples strolled by smiling, the crowd as one ignorant to the danger above. Akihiko felt his breath catch in his throat as the beastly thing turned, and for a second almost looked directly at him. He could almost hear the metallic ‘click click click’ of the gears grinding in its jaw, the metal plates grating and grinding as it moved in one smooth fashion across and street and right toward him-

Akihiko woke on the ground. He had collapsed at some point of the vision, and if the metallic tang coating his tongue was any indication, had managed to bite through the bandages on his palms at the very least. They were stinging, blood soaking through, but Akihiko was Glad for the pain at this point. Sitting up with a start, he gulped at the air and clawed at his throat as the last tendrils of fear left him in shuddering gasps.

ImagexxxImagexxxImagexxxImagexxxSven Gundersen

Sven stared at the man named Ivo as he introduced himself, a Rosamunda--apparently her sister--and a Caoilfhionn Höfler to the six of them before explaining the situation to them.

"Now, about the threat which caused us to summon you here. [...] If you have been properly informed about the Sixty-Nine, then you would've heard about these people. [...] This is Doctor Winifred Schmitz, one of the doctors stationed in Berlin during the Bombing of 2026. She operated on the eleven people who were retrieved from the rubble of Berlin, one of them being Ji-kyung Kühn, the original ancestor of the Kühn bloodline. [...] She and her descendants are completely against the Sixty-Nine and their descendants. Their ideology is that people like you should not exist, or else the balance of power would be weighed too heavily in favor of a small group of people.

Sven's mind was reeling; not only from the sudden information dump, but from the disbelief he harbored at the notion of such people and machines existing. In what was certainly a rare event, his expression was filled with bewilderment and perturbation; something that everyone else in the room could see.

His attention was immediately drawn to the young-looking, petite Asian girl, who piped up rather abrasively about how other "teams" should be able to handle the situation. After Ivo provided an adequate rebuttal to her protest ill-concealed as a question, he went into depth on each individual Sixty-Nine member in the room.

"Let me explain: firstly, Ms. Kaneshiro -" Sven noticed Ivo's brow furrowing before he muttered something from under his breath. Sven took a sideways glance at the individual in question: a rather tall...woman...with long white hair. He kept his eye on the conspicuous person--seemingly named Kaneshiro--as Ivo continued, who ended up dismissing the minor crisis of the person's gender. The petite Asian girl perked up again, which put a bit of pressure on one of Sven's nerves until he thought of her words.

Something's not adding up with this person. The girl's right; Asians aren't usually as tall as that. Combining that with Ivo Schreiber's confusion...I think I should be wary of them.

Sven's gaze moved to the short-fused Frenchwoman, who went by the name Jeanne Laurent. As Ivo described her abilities, he couldn't help but develop a distaste for her; after all, she did knock over what seemed to be expensive equipment without batting an eye.

Even if we're meant to team up, I think it would be best to avoid her unless absolutely necessary, or at least until she can get her temper cooled down. I think it's safe to say that she's a sociopath, to some degree at least.

His eyes then locked onto perhaps the most oddly-looking individual out of all of them--Akihiko Ito, he called himself. Unlike the previous two individuals, nothing seemed immediately out of the ordinary with him. Aside from the odd choice of clothing and general appearance, he looked relatively normal--someone he could get along with, even.

And then Ivo directed his attention--and therefore the others', as well--to Sven. He watched Dr. Schreiber as he boiled the summation down to: "Yeah, he messed up when he was younger, but we can't change that fact." Sven only gazed deadpan at Ivo even after the latter gave him a tight-lipped smile. The former sat properly on the sofa with his feet planted on the ground and his hands in his lap.

If you're really serious about everything going on right now, then why are you treating this like an ice-breaker from high school? Sven thought.

As Ivo started describing the most normal-looking individual of the five--apparently named Chiba Satoshi--Sven retreated into his own thoughts, reminiscing about that moment in school 15 years ago where he unwittingly utilized his power for the first time.

A moment later, as Ivo was finishing his blurb on Chiba, a spark of realization illuminated the innards of Sven's mind, revealing the silhouette of a dangerous truth.

Shit...damnit. Of all the people here, I'm the one most likely to be recognized and captured--assuming this whole situation is indeed legitimate. The entire world knows my face and name; that inevitably includes these supposed villains. On top of that, I freely gave out information about what happened in the interview with the media the day after...argh, why didn't I think of this before I came here? Sven knew the answer to this question before it finished materializing itself in his head.

His focus returned to the discussion in the room, which was currently on the matter of Ivo and his associates training the six of them on their powers and abilities.

Looks like I'm going to need some rigorous training...

Sven lit up slightly when Ivo explained to the group that they would begin their training in St. Petersburg, an environment not too dissimilar to that of Kristiansand or Oslo.

After Chiba's rather strange question of whether he could return home or not, Sven was visibly startled as he noticed Akihiko collapsing forward on the ground, biting down on a bandaged portion of his arm. After a few moments, Akihiko's...episode? slowly subsided, and he sat up on the tiled floor looking as if he had seen a ghoul.

"Are you alright?" Sven asked, wondering if this was a possible drawback to Akihiko's ability that Ivo had called "Precognition". His back had lifted off of the back of the sofa as he questioned the young man.

Jeanne momentarily stopped tossing around her lighter as the doors once again opened up, allowing two professional enough looking people to enter the stage. The two Schreibers as it would seem, though shortly after there entrance came a third who introduced themself as one named "Caoilfhionn Höfler," a speaker of many tongues, or so she claimed. For some reason, Jeanne couldn't help but be put off by this third entrance. Though she was supposed to be a translator for the members present, she certainly didn't give off the attitude of one who would be helping.

For the most part, Jeanne understood the gist of the situation, despite all the jargon tossed in here and there. Some stuff about being descendants of whatever people survived this bombing that occurred some long time ago. And these descendants were teaming up to fight against this other group of people. And these other people, Schmitzes as they were called, have these odd machines which were supposedly invisible, and the collection of people her were meant to train to fight them.

"The hell kinda fairy tale is this supposed to be?" She muttered under her breath as the doctor named Ivo started introducing the people around, one by one.

"The Laurents have been known for being skilled at manipulating fire, a rather volatile element, but were notorious for having a somewhat... lack of control, which, being said in a blunter manner, ultimately led to their demise."

At Ivo's explanation of Jeanne and her background, she felt her eye twitch at the mention of a lack of control and talk of demise. To say the least, it struck a nerve in her that she would have rather left unsaid. She flicked the lighter open, shooting a tiny ball of flame past the doctor, glaring at him with cold and unforgiving eyes, but said nothing. Whether he meant to be on her case or not, she had to let him know that it was something better left unsaid and unannounced.

At the mention of questions, the first to speak was the boy who's ability was invisibility; he asked a question to which Jeanne shared a similar sentiment, simply wanting to leave. But alas, it seemed that such a thing was not the case. Though, if such a thing were to so easily dissuade Jeanne from doing as she pleases, then she very well wouldn't be the kind of person she was. Although, her musing was interrupted quite thusly at the cause of one person dropping to the ground in a fit of some sort. After being taken aback for a moment, Jeanne remembered that this person's ability was that of precognition. Well... That's quite the... unfortunate side effect of that. Jeanne though to herself, scoffing.

However, a thought came to mind of her own that she decided to voice. Sliding off of the counter she sat on, and instead resigning to just leaning against it, Jeanne took a second to figure out the right words in English before speaking. "You have all this... talk about enemies and allies. But who are we to trust you?" She said, without hesitation. "How do we know that you're the real good guys in this? Surely you can't expect us to come here, listen to your story and think everything is all fine, non?" She took a final breath before crossing her arms in defiance and saying one last phrase, posing the question to the whole group.

"What if you aren't as good as you're claimin' to be and that these... Schmitzes are the ones we should actually be trusting?"

It wouldn't be wrong to say that this kind of meeting is gradually turning into one of those countless summons Mikiya was called to attend in the past. The somber atmosphere, the bickering, the questions, all of them are but something that he had been all too used to. He wouldn't show it outwardly, but if that was really going to be the case, he would have been bored to death. He would straight up order them to just tell whose necks to slit, depart onto his mission, and be done with it.

But it was really different here this time. Other times, he was surrounded with individuals of high magnitudes. Those with minds sharper than a sword and powers to enact at their disposals. Those that even for a seasoned empath like himself cannot even grasp at the very first glance. Now, excluded himself, the two so-called professors over there are in all honesty the only ones knowing what exactly is going on. The other five's feelings and insecurities are very true and pure under Mikiya's observation. No covers, no lies. It was almost refreshing for him, he must admit.

After all, for these teenagers, they are like infants, about to make a step into a world that bears almost no semblance of how their normal lives are. A world where deception and plotting are your only weapons, and also what will one day turn against you. A world where you can be either a fish that devours or be devoured. That fact is what Mikiya can tell for sure even if he is yet to know their backstories.

And in a brief moment, Mikiya almost felt pity for them for being dragged into this. He is not too sure what to expect in the future, but it definitely won't be too different from how Mikiya has lived his whole life - to have your own life hanging on the line while countless people depend on it. They should have been allowed to choose their own paths, live how they wanted to be, and here they sit, waiting for the responsibilities that are to be passed onto them. Will these five be able to make it? For the moment, Mikiya pretty much doubts it. He wishes that watching their development will prove him wrong.

Looks like I got a lot of works to do. Mikiya muses to himself.

Before long, the people who summoned them here began to introduce themselves. The man is named Ivo and the woman next to him is Rosamunda, his sister. Later on, another woman named Caoilfhionn (he is unsure if he heard it right, German is such a complex language that he decided not to take on it) walked in and apparently she's also quite a linguist. And the three of them are all Germans, which he aren't too familiar in working with. He did travel to Germany for a couple of times before, but didn't have a chance to learn more about its' culture and people. But not like it would matter much for now.

Ivo then began to deliberate about the reasons for their summoning. This didn't come off as surprising for Mikiya. The Kaneshiro family has built a large network of connections with other prominent lines of Sixty-Nines worldwide, and thus through them holds extensive information about the nature of the so-called 'evolved humans' like them. When Mikiya heard his family name to be the first one to be called out among the six, he had already prepared for all questions directed at him, the very moment he felt the slightest sting of doubts from them.

This is actually quite what he had hoped, really. Most of them seemed to have sharper sense of perception than he originally thought. If they cannot at least afford to be this observant, Mikiya's work will just pile up even more and obviously he doesn't want it to be the case. When the girl, Yeong-ji, directed her questions over his gender, Mikiya, under the pretense of Makiko, smiled at the girl, "For the records all members of my family have been quite taller than Japanese's standard, you could say that there will always a few odd ones among the many common. Just because you have never seen it before, doesn't mean it can never happen, does it?" He replied in the most polite tone possible, before the professor continues with his talk.

Coming right after the introduction of Mikiya's family is the information of the other five's families. The two other Japaneses, Satoshi and Ito, aren't from families that are neither prominent nor well-known, but he did meet people with their abilities before. They seemed like your everyday schoolboys having their lives messed up because they were involved in some unthinkable matters. A motif too common in fictions now. They seemed normal on the outside, but Mikiya can felt that they are hiding some problems that he cannot pick up just yet. He will figure it out and see how to fix them in case they get in the way.

The other three foreigners youngsters are, quite unexpectedly, all came from families that the Kaneshiro had taken notice of more specifically. First is the girl came from the Laurent family known as Jeanne. They made quite a mark among the supernatural community and built up the notoriety of the volatile and unpredictable nature of their powers. This girl seems to has quite a tongue and her attitude matches up with that of her flames. An interesting individual, indeed. In a way, she reminds him of his sister Aoko when she was during her adolescence years.

Next up is Sven Gunderson. The boy's power isn't too significant, but the fact that he reveals almost all information about himself having supernatural power to the world potentially make him into a target to be manipulated, both politically and other matters. Hence why the Kaneshiro has been secretly keeping track of him and his family on regular intervals. It seemed that he doesn't seem like the outgoing type that would freely talk about anything he hears, so for now there's no need for Mikiya to take special care of him.

And last, but definitely not least, the descendant of the most prominent family ever of the Sixty-Nines, Yeong-ji of the Kühn family. Her clan's ability has always been intriguing in their nature and, as much as the Kaneshiro wanted to obtain for information about it, the sources are extremely limited and most of them are highly classified. It is also difficult to keep track of the members of this family. Mikiya will definitely keep an eye on Yeong-ji, to see how her ability will manifest at its' fullest and to prevent any chances of her becoming a potential political subject of manipulation. Mikiya doesn't know if the girl is aware, but just walking around bearing her family name is enough to make her a prey in many's eyes.

After the deliberation is finished, Ivo informed that they are going to depart to somewhere else again, and they will go after all questions are answered. Mikiya took off his sunglasses, and directed his gaze over to Ivo, "I'm assuming that you is aware of what us - the Kaneshiro, are, correct? The elders of my family seem to trust you, which is why they gave you the rights to give me orders in their stead. Of course, I have absolutely no problems with that. Our conversation up until now have also confirmed me that this wasn't some political schemes that could potentially threaten my family and my nation. So I have no questions. Instead, as a fair warning, I sincerely hope you will not betray our trust and give out our information to those who offer a price for it. For if that really is the case, I will do what I have to and things may become much more complicated than it already is."

"For the records all members of my family have been quite taller than Japanese's standard, you could say that there will always a few odd ones among the many common," the tall Japanese person responded in a rather civil manner towards Yeong-ji's claim. "Just because you have never seen it before, doesn't mean it can never happen, does it?"

Yeong-ji stayed silent for a few moments, contemplating the woman's (?) words, and how she got them across. She's okay, Yeong-ji grudgingly approved of the Japanese in her mind. She shrugged nonchalantly in response. "I'm sure it is possible - after all, the tallest woman ever was Chinese and over eight feet tall - all I am saying is that it is not the norm." Yeong-ji smiled her typical sardonic smile, not fully aware of it. "However, you could be -" Yeong-ji paused, trying to think up the term she couldn't quite recall at the moment "- biologically male and choose to identify as female - in any case, I will use any pronouns you want. I could not care less about what gender people go by."

The conversation continued on. However, the thump of the Japanese American collapsing to the ground certainly caught people's attention. The golden-eyed teen woke up abruptly, gasping, blood seeping through the bandages on his hands. The main doctor's sister - Rosamunda, Yeong-ji reminded herself - immediately rushed to the boy's side, saying things like, "was that a vision of yours?" and "would you like to explain what you saw?", along with "oh my, let's get your hands fixed up."

Meanwhile, the tall Japanese person took off her glasses. "I'm assuming that you is aware of what us - the Kaneshiro, are, correct? The elders of my family seem to trust you, which is why they gave you the rights to give me orders in their stead. Of course, I have absolutely no problems with that. Our conversation up until now have also confirmed me that this wasn't some political schemes that could potentially threaten my family and my nation. So I have no questions. Instead, as a fair warning, I sincerely hope you will not betray our trust and give out our information to those who offer a price for it. For if that really is the case, I will do what I have to and things may become much more complicated than it already is."

Ivo took those words very seriously, nodding somberly. "Of course," he said, a heavy tone in his voice.

The Frenchwoman decided to speak up. "You have all this . . . talk about enemies and allies. But who are we to trust you?" How do we know that you're the real good guys in this? Surely you can't expect us to come here, listen to your story and think everything is all fine, non? What if you aren't as good as you're claimin' to be and that these . . . Schmitzes are the ones we should actually be trusting?"

She has a point, Yeong-ji admitted grudgingly to herself. I mean, all I have to go on is my dad's word . . . and he kinda left me when I was eight to commit suicide in Seoul. There is no actual reason to trust this dude . . . besides, even if he is telling the truth, who give a fuck if I'm killed by those machine things? Didn't practically everyone in my family commit suicide before they could hit twenty-one? It's probably hereditary . . . I'm already fifteen, it's not like I have any time left to make good use out of my life.

"Your suspicion," Ivo began in a tone that made him seem like he was waiting for the Frenchwoman's question, "is completely understandable. In fact, I'd be sincerely surprised if any of you didn't doubt me. However," the images on the screen rippled to show what Yeong-ji saw while she was playing piano in the morning - the ripples of the German flag - "this is the universal distress signal amongst the Sixty-Nine and its descendants. Back when some from the clinical trials were leaving to lead their own lives, we showed this signal to them, telling them it would only be used in the most dire of situations. I understand that this secret may not have been passed down in your ancestors' attempt to give their children normal lives. In that case, there is certainly a reason for any of you to doubt us. However, there is a degree of trust that goes into every risk one takes in life. Without these risks, no one would be able to advance."

Ivo seemed to grow taller and he spoke. "We cannot force you to believe us. If you do, you are putting your faith in us to defend you from your extinction. If you don't, you are choosing to blindly shut the door in the face of the destiny your ancestors and your powers have engraved for you. There is a risk in either choice you make; despite our efforts, you may not survive if you choose to believe us. But there's a strong chance you will. However, if you choose not to believe us, the chance of you surviving will be significantly lower. This choice is yours to make, so select a decision you may regret the least."

There was a short pause of silence as the listeners contemplated the doctor's words. Finally, Ivo broke the silence he himself had caused, calling over to his sister in German so that most of the others wouldn't understand. "How is his condition? What did he see, and does it have any impact on our plans?"

Seeing one of the doctors--specifically, the one named Rosamunda--tending to Akihiko, Sven decided to back off, crossing his arms as he returned to his original, rigid position on the sofa. He glanced at the petite Asian girl as she created small-talk with Makiko, but after he noticed the conversation going nowhere meaningful, he turned his attention to Rosamunda treating the odd-looking American.

He didn't watch for long; the motion of Makiko removing her(?) glasses out of his periphery made him glance back at the person Sven found mistrustful.

Sven remained silent as he toiled with Makiko's lengthy monologue. As he processed it, however, his consciousness narrowed upon the first two sentences of the miniature speech.

Kaneshiro...? The name seems familiar, now that it's put into a context like this. In fact...was it a blog post that I saw it on...? No, I think it was a forum thread. It was talking about...how secretive the family tends to be--at least, until it devolved into mindless conspiracy theories. Regardless...Makiko's tone of voice and choice of words make it clear they see us as inferior in some way, shape, or form. In fact, their entire monologue suggests a form of enlightenment that me and the other four individuals here haven't grasped yet.

Sven then thought of his father's urgent phone call. Dad wouldn't lie to me about anything; especially with something as purportedly dire as this. It's inconceivable. If it was a different situation, or if he hadn't pressured me into going, then maybe I'd be thinking the same thing that Makiko is saying right now. But...

He thought back to his initial suspicion of Makihiko's ambiguity revolving around their gender. He pondered their supposed intellectual superiority over the rest of the group--which he could confirm was real due to Makiko claiming his family trusted Ivo and his cohorts, thus revealing that the Kaneshiros knew what was going on before the broadcast was sent. He again thought of the forum thread he'd seen years ago, and of his father's phone call.

Click. It was like a light had turned on in Sven's head, or like the final piece of a puzzle being set into place, making everything crystal clear to him. The revelation showed on his face; his eyes were wide as they stared at Makiko, blatantly revealing to everyone in the room that he'd discovered something. Getting a grip on himself, he quelled his emotions, removing the wide-eyed look from his face.

Makiko most likely showed up like this on purpose. They...no, he...wanted to ensure there was nothing suspicious among those he was eventually going to meet, so he came prepared. To go to such lengths, though...I have to talk to him in private as soon as I get the chance to.

Sven was so engrossed in his discovery that he failed to pay attention to most of what Ivo was saying about deciding to stay or leave, as well as the somewhat nefarious-sounding questions concealed by a language barrier.
