As Maria Pesithea, she looked like any other unassuming heiress. She was always small for her height and stopped growing around thirteen, forever being small. Despite this, though, the girl sure seemed lively. Her hair was once long and silky smooth, cascading down her back in locks. The girl's blue eyes were always wide with curiosity and wonder despite her misfortune, she was an optimistic child to be sure. She is often seen wearing long, fancy dresses that help make her look more mature than she would in casual clothing. Of course, her arms are ladened with scars from her "blood sacrifices" in her magic spells of lunacy and delusion.

The key difference between Maria Pesithea and her new name in the fae realm, Aine Yasuda, is that her once blue eyes had turned a crimson red. As Aine, she's usually seen in red robes with a short skirt and belt, an eyepatch with a cross design, a long black cloak, one boot for her left leg and bandages to wrap the right, and an oversized witch's hat to complete the set. Aine remains small and short, and retains the scars from when she'd cut herself. It's common to see Aine with an impish sort of smile on her face, eyes twinkling with inquiry and curiosity. Her hair is different, being cut much shorter, only retaining the long side-bangs to give her a messy sort of appearance.

⌦ Frail | Despite her magic, Aine is physically fragile and one hit is usually enough to incapacitate her.
⌦ Headstrong | It's very hard to convince her that her delusions/beliefs are fake.

β₯ Major Power: Wind Magic! | She can summon tornadoes, can fly with wind, and other sorts of things! Stronger magic takes time to charge up, however.
β₯ Minor Power: Curse Magic! | Curses can be used to debilitate an opponent and weaken them, for example, giving them phantom pain, or attempting to disable one of their senses. These depend on incantations and can be interrupted. They also don't work if she doesn't know the name of her target.

Loneliness! | Nothing's quite as scary as knowing you're alone, and that no one will come back for you.

Flighty | Free-spirited | Friendly | Delusional | Bullheaded | Naive

If you were to meet Aine currently, you'd find a girl that many would question if she really deserves to be a court witch, especially considering her various quirks that make her unsuitable for such an important role. On the other hand, because of her natural talent with magic, as well as the favor of the court wizard, Ananthes, it'd be hard to find a reason to disallow her, especially once you really get to know the girl. Aine, despite having lost touch with reality for the most part, is still an optimistic and driven girl with a natural affinity to magic. She's not particularly malicious and means well with everything she does, and her little bouts of lunacy aren't exactly of a dangerous sort. Aine's the type to want to go on adventures and explore and is very adaptable with her delusions, able to change them to fit the current reality she sees. As such, you'd find an outgoing and sociable girl that's easy to get along with if you can keep pace with her zaniness, which, admittedly, not everyone can do.

Of course, no one is one dimensional and neither is Aine. She hides a deep sadness within that she desperately tries to hide with a fake, happier world where she doesn't have to think of stressful things. The girl is needy and clingy and things such as abandonment really hit her hard. One could theorize that to some extent, Aine is acutely aware of what's real and what isn't, but uses her insanity as a shield to protect herself from having to feel sadness, but it's just a theory, no one has been able to confirm it edgewise. Regardless, Aine is a girl that's surprisingly reliable despite her flaws, and will try her best to succeed in the fight against the Sorrow.

Willard Pesithea | 51 | Father | Alive
Eva Pesithea | 48 | Mother | Alive
Alina Pesithea | 20 | Sister | Alive/Disowned

{β˜› β’½β’Ύβ“ˆβ“‰β“„β“‡β“Ž ☚}
Maria Pesithea was born into the wealthy Pesithea family, an old money family that controlled much of the town of Belbridge for generations. However, Willard Pesithea was growing ill despite being the head of the family, and with his greedy siblings all vying for the family fortune, things were stressful. As such, Willard groomed his eldest daughter, Alina, to be the heiress, the next head of the family. There was always strict competition between the extended family, however, with Alina's cousins all trying to outdo her to prove that they were more worthy of the fortune than she was. While this was happening, an accidental second daughter was conceived and born five years later. Willard and Eva didn't know what to do with Maria, so they raised her as normal, away from the familial in-fighting.

In the public schooling, even then, Maria was always a naive little girl, always believing everyone's lies. She was gullible and overly trusting, and her innocence was what allowed her and Alina to form a good relationship with one another. While the rest of the family were schemers and uncaring, Maria was loving and friendly, so Alina often spent her free time with her, entertaining her with magic card tricks and the like. And like any gullible child, Maria believed that it was genuinely magic, every time. However, Maria was pretty oblivious and inattentive - while she was busy trying to learn magic herself, her sister was slipping from all of the pressure on her shoulders. Alina started talking about a paradise where all sad souls went after they died, a happy magical place where the chosen ones were allowed to go. Maria, instead of being concerned, simply took her words as fact and earnestly believed that she, too, was a chosen one.

One day, when Maria was twelve, Alina completely vanished. There was no trace left of her, her big sister was gone and then Maria realized how harsh Alina's life must have been when it was decided that she was the new heir, due to Eva's plots and Willard's paranoia that the cousins would squander the money. So Maria was torn apart from her friends in school and locked away inside the house, home-schooled. by tutors. Her freedom was stripped, and every time Maria insisted that magic was real, that she was studying to be a witch and bring back her sister, her parents would get increasingly frustrated at these delusions.

It started with a slap, one slap to make the girl's babbling about the Silver Land to stop momentarily. And from there, it all escalated. Lock Maria away without food for days. Beat her with a bamboo stick. Waterboard her. Do whatever it took to beat the crazy out of her and make her into a suitable heir at any cost, without letting anyone on the outside know. Because if anyone found out how insane Maria was becoming, her right to the family fortune would be forfeit and the main family line would fall to the cousins. So the worse the punishments became, the worse Maria's delusions warped in order to help her escape from this reality.

Maria convinced herself that she was the Legendary Lunar Witch, and studied magic to free her parents from this demonic possession and turn them back into loving and caring parents. She became utterly convinced that she could save them, and she loved them no matter how much it hurt, because her parents were just possessed, right? If she practiced her magic, she could free them and take them to the Silver Land to meet with Alina, and they'd be a happy family again. So Maria started using her blood to fuel her magic, and every time she cut to use her blood as a sacrifice for her spells, it only made her mind spiral worse and worse.

And then one fateful night, Maria found an old letter from Alina, apologizing for tricking her with magic, telling her that magic wasn't real, that she was delusional, that she was sorry for running away and leaving her with the responsibility. Maria, now fifteen, realized that magic and miracles weren't real, that the Silver Land was a sham, that there was no happy ending. Her parents weren't possessed, they were just bad and abusive. So Maria decided to escape, now clear headed, breaking out of the Pesithea Estate and running off into the woods. What happened next was a mystery, but somehow, Maria ended up dying there and was brought over to the Fae Realm.

Upon waking up in the faerie realm, Maria wondered why she was even awake, wondered why she was still alive. She didn't recognize this strange new world, the court wizard Ananthes who took her in as his own daughter. But Maria knew one thing - she wanted to discard her past self, whatever this strange world was, if it was the Silver Land, or maybe some intermediate land on the way to the Silver Land, she wouldn't need her family to weigh her down. Maria would grow strong on her own merit, and thus she changed her identity from Maria Pesithea to Aine Yasuda, and began her apprenticeship.
