A man with no where else to go.
Garett has never been a humble man. Over-confident has been used to describe him by many superior officers. He sees himself as God's gift to navigating. Garett's always had a hard time getting along with his peers. He sees most navigators as inferior and idiots. Luck and much skill has reinforced this opinion of himself. He's never been wrong and always seems to plot the ship directly into the best course. A report from one of his officers stated his talent is "unrivaled, invaluable, and possibly life-saving." To most others he seems a little cocky, yet it's backed up assuredness. His demeanor towards non-navigators is usually pleasent and charismatic. Yet at times his mathmatical mind tends to make him seem cold hearted.
When on duty Garett's always in his navy navigators uniform; a simple black t-shirt under a navy blue jacket, a pair of navy blue slacks, a maroon beret, and a pair of black utility boots. The jacket and pants both trimmed in gold. As his own little punchline to the Navy he wears his uniform against regulations with the jacket open or off entirely. Off duty he's usually wearing a pair of his military issue cargo pants with a t-shirt. On his person he carries an old fashioned zippo lighter engraved with the logo of the first ship he was on, the MSV Briska. And always in his pocket is a faded picture of a blonde woman in her twenty's, on the back is written; Sarah.
The Photo of Sarah:
Garett was born on the Jupiter refining vessel, SS Terrance Olfgan. His father a mechanic and mother worked the onboard bar. He grew up poor moving from space station to station orbiting Jupiter. Garett's father was gone most of the time keeping the refining ships working. His mother worked two jobs trying to pay rent and take care of her son. Everyday he saw the cosmos out the large viewing ports and knew he just had to get out there. At 18 Garett enlisted and signed on with the Navy to become a navigator. He studied at the Military Astrophysics and Science Academy on Mars. Graduating at the top of his class was only the first astonishment in his career. He spent four years traveling the solar system and quickly proved his worth. In those years he met Sarah. Through correspondence and leave his love for her grew. She begged him to leave the service at the end of his enlistment. At her request he did so. Garett regretted giving up his life traveling the solar system, but knew that Sarah was worth it. After only a year, Sarah left him. Appearently she loved him when he was half way across the solar system, but couldn't stand to stay in the same house with him. Garett still feels as if it was his fault she left. She kept complaining of his analytical personality and robot like emotions. Only a month, spent mostly drunk, after Sarah walked out Garett signed onto the Nyx project he had been watching with interest.
