Ambrose Priphea

A quiet, young man - only 23 - slowly crumbling to Reaper's Kryptonite.

0 · 369 views · located in Jackle's Paradise

a character in “Reaper's Kryptonite”, as played by ArhaHitomi888

Description

Image

Full name: Ambrose Priphea

Nickname: Pierrot, Dirge, and/or Angel (Goes by several because he is paranoid; Also open to new nicknames.)

Gender: Male

Age: 23

Country: Ireland (English/Irish/Russian)

Appearance:
Ambrose stands at 6'3" and weights 163lbs.
Image

Personality: Ambrose is a very shy, soft spoken person. He isn't very outgoing and he sends to almost whisper his words, comstantly fidgeting. However, despite his quite demeanor, he is also extremely friendly, almost never seen without a smile on his face unless something is bothering him or he is deep in thought. He is always happy to help others, and will often be very generous and friendly to others if they really wish to spek to him. His tone of voice is always soft and gentle, very quiet at times.

Image

Biggest fear: Ambrose fears dying before he has a family of his own or waching someone else he cares about die.

Image

Side note: The organ of his which is being affected the most are his lungs, slowly making it more and more difficult for him to breathe, and sometimes when he raises his voice , the inner walls of his throat, just above the Trachea and the Esophagus will split open a bit (just enough to draw blood) and he will cough or vomit blood - But it heals quickly as long as he doesn't speak. (The anatomy of your throat is build to repair itself quickly to keep functioning) - So Ambrose is very careful when he speaks, although he's a naturally quiet person. (This detail is not meant to be overdramatic, since the human throat is designed to quickly heal from such things with rest). In these times of muteness however, he relies on American Sign Language as a form of communication or mouthing words. However, when he speaks, he's fluent in English, gaelic, and Russian.

Ambrose Priphea

Ambrose was quiet as he walked about, light on his feet and making sure he was very quiet. Being quiet was what i did best, having adjusting to not yelping in surprise for fear of tearing his throat. His light sapphire eyes darted about, making sure to observe everything carefully and listen to everything very closely. His breaths were somewhat labored, but he tried to breathe quietly as he moved. Peeking around a corner, he spied another girl and jumped a bit before dashing into the shadows in fear. He never knew who could be a Jackle, and he couldn't die. He just couldn't. He was the only survival son his parents had, and he had to survive somehow.

As he made his way around her, he spied a boy who had apparently seen the girl. Before either could see him, he retreated into a corner. However, as he looked back, he tripped and crashed to the ground. Legs shaking, he picked himself and dashed into more shade before reaching a dead end. Glancing back, he didn't see the boy anymore but he heard faint conversation, hoping to wait for them to leave, however, he heard one of them swear she wasn't and was never a Jackle. Slowly, he made his way towards their conversation, remaining quiet. As he approached the corner they were just around, he paused before simply peeking out at them. The girl was rather pretty, and the boy certainly seemed different then most. The way he felt around his own being and other's, he guessed he had difficulty seeing, was very shy, or perhaps something else?

He hoped they hadn't seen him yet as he retreated back into the dead end, before realizing it was so. Looking around, he spied a large container and opened it, looking into it. Empty. Carefully, he jumped in and made an attempt to close the lid quietly, but lost his grip, making it slam with a loud 'Clang!'. He jumped and curled up, simply waiting for absolute silence in home of some safe rest.

"Ow. That hurt." Claes said emotionlessly, rubbing his ears and looking back in the direction of the person who had made the noise. He was already pretty sure that a Jackle wouldn't make noise like that, but he wasnt sure. He took off his headphones, bracing himself for the rush of pain. "Oy! Would you mind? We're trying to have a secret meeting here!" The words he chose didnt really matter, because, even if it were a Jackle, if they had found them, a fight would start anyway. He heard the person's heart beat faster, probably at the realization that they noticed the hidden person. Most likely not a Jackle, but he didn't want to take chances again. Then again, if both of these humans were Jackles, he was a dead man walking. Not that it mattered. He'd try and take them with him if it turned out like that. Still, he kept his headphones off just in case. He turned back to the girl and decided that he'd get a better "look" at her. He made a clicking sound with his tongue and the girl blazed in silver in his mind. First of all, she was short. Not much shorter than him, but still, he wasn't tall to begin with. Second, he could tell without being able to truly see her that she was strong. There was just something about her that gave off feeling like a steel wall, one that couldn't be passed. The third thing was that, for some odd reason, he just knew that she wasn't a Jackle. He didn't know how, again, but he did. She was an odd girl. He smiled at the thought. He thought she wasbodd. Well, maybe that was irony. Or fate. Claes didnt have much of a liking for fate, but maybe this hand he'd been dealt wasn't so bad.

Ambrose Priphea

Ambrose kept quiet in the large, empty container. It was large enough that he could lie down comfortably in it lengthwise, and could fit width wise when sitting down with his legs in front of him - About the size of a dumpster. Wait- Was this a dumpster!? He sniffed the inside and let out a relieved sigh. Thankfully, perhaps it was intended to be, but no trash seemed to have made it in there. When he heard someone yell, he froze and gasped again. Muffling some coughs, he was thankful he hadn't stayed near them. They sounded rather rude, at least, one of them did - But who was he to make assumptions, people who were forced to survive became rough. He dismissed it, despite his faint feeling of being hurt. It was a flaw of his, really. Most people said he was rather handsome and talented, but were drawn away from him because he was that kind of charming, sensitive, gentle man while most people preferred the thrill of the exciting, risk-taking, bad boy.

With the lightest of sighs, he adjusted to lie down on his side, lengthwise in the container. He curled up a bit, trying to get comfortable. He hoped no Jackles discovered him here, but hoped that the container was overlooked. All he wanted was some time to catch his breath and rest. He had given up on the idea of finding any allies, not knowing if someone was a Jackle or not. He would've loved a friend at that point, but he would be glad for the things he had now (such as his life) instead of lamenting things he didn't have - It had never done anyone any good anyway.

Claes shrugged at her question. It's typical that people would think that he has more trouble getting around than a normal person, but he was probably better off than most when it came to getting around this godforsaken place. "I didn't have much of a problem. I could hear them. You, on the other hand, surprised me." He turned around again and spoke to the person that was still hiding. "Hey! Come on out please! Didn't you get the letter? That's why you're here, Right?!" he looked back at Aria. "You did say something about a letter, right? Al old man told me about it when I got here the other day, asked me to come here. Obviously... I'm not so good with letters." Claes sighed. "Well... Actually I might be better off saying that he asked me to come for him. Well, he's dead anyway, so I guess I'm not doing it for him anymore." Claes caught himself. He hadn't rambled like this since he'd lost his sight two years back. No... He hadn't talked to anyone like this, who wasn't part of his family, since before that. More than that, even without the headphones, her voice didn't hurt his ears. It had a more... Soothing quality to it that he hadn't heard very often before. The way he saw it, his odds were starting to look up already.

Aria:

She quickly realized what he must be thinking and shook her head "Oh, no no!...i didn't ask because you're...I mean, I... was hoping you didn't run into any trouble or..." she sighed realizing she was just sounding like an idiot and leaned against the wall behind her keeping her eyes on him. Her expression still filled with concern. "I'm sorry...about your friend I mean" she says quietly. She looks down at the ground for a few seconds then looks back at him and smiles "I'm glad you came though. Thank you"

She looks in the direction that the boy is speaking and grasps her blade. "I'll be right back" she says looking at him then slowly stepping out. Making sure no Jackles are around to spot her, she searches the area with her eyes, until she spots a large trash bin. "Hmmm"

Ambrose Priphea

Ambrose remained quiet and resting in the container. It wasn't that he was a coward really, it simply was because he couldn't take any chances. Last time he had taken a chance, he had almost ended up dead, and screaming for help wasn't an option. The only reason he got away that time was that he tore his throat and puked blood, passing out and the Jackle just happened to believe him to be dead from the disease. That had been a lucky break, but those weren't anything to rely on. No, he wasn't sure who he could trust here, so of course he would be cautious. When he heard footsteps however, he stiffened. Slowly, he reached down to his pocket, pressing his hand against his leg to make sure that the switchblade was there. Slowly, he outlined it's shape with his fingers and reached in, just in case. If someone reached in the grab him, he'd pull it out and run for it - But he wouldn't move too quickly, it would be absolutely terrible to hurt an innocent, infected person such as he. For now, he would simply wait.

Aria stood in front of the trash bin, staring at it as if it were magic or gold. She clutched her blade ven tighter, took a deep breath and made the decision. If this happened to be a Jackle, someone would for sure die right then and there. And she wasn't about to let it be her. She placed a hand on top of the lid and was about to open it quickly, when a sharp pain hit her chest and left her gasping for air. She was trying her hardest not to scream out of pain, and she could feel all her muscles tense up. -No! Not now!- she thought furious. Her legs were trembling as if the ground was lifting from under her. She grabbed hold of the bin with two hands to try to steady herself but the pain became greater by the second. She lost control of her knees and fell against the dumpster making an extremely loud THUMP. She cumpled her face in pain but refused to scream. -I'm not going down that easy-
She held her chest as tight as she could, her vision becoming blurry. Her head was pounding as if someone was hitting it over and over with a hammer, but she still grabbed her blade. "C'mon out you filthily Jackle and face me already. I have someone i need to protect..."

Claes heard Aria's heartbeat suddenly change. It was now like an irregular... He couldn't say that it was beating anymore. It was something less. He dashed over to where she was, but he tripped and rammed into what he assumed was the dumpster that hid the person... No... It was a Jackle, wasn't it?
"Ah!" ignored his throbbing shoulder and head and moved to Aria's side. "This is bad..." He had no weapons, Aria was injured... He might as well just get up and leave while he could. Apparently Fate had decided to deal him a bad hand after all. But still... He looked at Aria, and thought that maybe the worst hand wouldn't be dying with a person like her. He was sure that the Jackles could come up with much worse ones if they knew about him.

Aria looked at the boy that rushed to her and she quickly tried to stand up. She was still in excruciating pain, but she wasn't going to let anyone hurt him. It was her fault he was even here in the first place. She managed to get herself up still holding on to her chest and forced a smile to show him she was okay, but the pain didn't like that. And even sharper pain ran through her entire chest, nearly knocking her back down. She groaned from the pain and tears began to run down her cheeks, but no matte what, she wasn't going to scream. Her head became more and more faint, until all she could see were blurred images of everything around her. She looked at the boy "Be...careful" she managed to choke out. Her breathing was now very shallow and her head and body felt heavy. "please, be careful" she said again.

Ambrose Priphea

Ambrose remained quiet in the container, not wanting to take any chances until it was undoubtedly true that they were not Jackles. He had to live. He had to. There was no other choice for him. Suddenly, there was a sound of impact and he flinched. He was very obviously confused as to what just happened. After a moment, he quickly registered what had occured. Something was attacking them. Perhaps it was a Jackle attacking diseased, perhaps it was diseased attacking Jackles, maybe even diseased attacking diseased. However, two creaks made it clear to him that someone's two hands had been placed on the container or someone's feet on top of it. Another large bang made him jump and he gasped sharpy, which caused him to begin coughing. His hands flew up to his throat and he clutched tightly, nearly choking himself and he hacked.

After a moment, the heard one speak about having someone to protect. That was enough to confirm it for him, and he looked through a small space between the two half lids of the container. There, he saw - Nothing? Slowly, he stood, pushing the lid open. He did, however, draw his switchblade and flick it out just in case. From what he saw then, they certainly seemed were like him. One of them against the bin and the other on the ground muttering. Ambrose, unsure if this was some sort of trap, slowly climbed out. He opened his mouth to speak quietly, but no sound came out. The violent coughing and temporarily stripped him of his voice and he frowned. How could he possibly speak to them if they couldn't hear him. He went ahead and made an educated guess that the boy was probably sight challenged or blind and had not a clue what to think of the girl. Rushed over to her, seeing as though she was the one who was practically muttering the precursor to the dramatic 'save yourself' ramble.

He crouched near her and looked clearly concerned. After a split second of thinking, he had an idea, and desperately hoped it would somehow work. He pointed to Aria before raising one hand to his chest, fingers extended with only his middle finger lightly touching his chest. He tapped his chest twice, each time making a subtle downward swipe with his finger against his torso. Sign language. He had been mostly depending on this in moments of muteness, but often encountered the difficulty of no one speaking or understanding sign language. However, looking back at the other, he seemed to have gotten up enough to glance in the girl's direction. Well shoot, if the boy had difficulty seeing, how would they speak without him speaking?

Aria saw someone step out of the bin. Terrified she quickly clutched her sword, but stopped when she saw the newcommer's face. He was fairly handsome, but most definitely not a Jackle. Her heart now began to pick up again and her breathing and vision slowly made their way back to normal. She stared at the guy who was making some sort of gestures with his hands. She guessed it was sign language. She stood up slowly, looking down at them both and smirked. "Sorry you had to see that..." she half-whispered. "They always seem to come at the most unfortunate timaes" She slips her blade back in the small case that's strapped to the belt on her jeans and extends her right hand out to the new guy, hoping he was here because of the letter. Or at least willing to stay.

Claes shrugged in response to her words. "Attacks of some sort, right? You're lucky. Usually those mean that you'll live a bit longer. At least, I think." he sighed. "Well, at least mine aren't quite that bad." He looked at the man, after using echolocation to find that he was much taller than him or Aria, that seemed to be waving his arms around.
"Is that man okay? Is he having a seizure of some sort?"

Ambrose Priphea

Ambrose waited, clearly concerned until she spoke. He let out a long sigh and smiled moving back to sit on the ground, glad she didn't seem to be dying. However, just then, his demeanor quickly changed on a dime. The moment she apologized and commented on the inconvenience of the timing, he looked down and to his right, hands reaching up to each other as he seemed to fidget nervously and shyly. He nodded a bit before making a fist and placing it against his chest, knuckles out, before moving it against his torso in a circle with an apologetic look. Idly, he wondered if they suspected he was deaf, it wouldn't be the first time someone would have. As the boy entered into the conversation, Ambrose seemed to almost completely dropped out of it, instead decided to stay quiet and nervously fidget, becoming timid.

It was one of the only moments he was able to sort of be himself, despite the fact that he could feel Jackles nearby. He couldn't explain it, he could just feel them. Almost always on the rooftops, above them in literal terms. It made him uncomfortable, really - But he decided to allow himself this one moment of self honesty. It would be nice to even have one minute or being him and not being the diseased, dying man on the run from killer. Yeah, that sounded nice. When the boy asked if he was having a seizure, Ambrose simply looked up at the boy, looking almost befuddled.

Claes shrugged and stood up. He put his earphones back in, not seeing any need for them now, and took both Aria and the newcomer by the arms and pulled them back inside. He had some specific things he wanted to talk about.
He took a deep breath. If he were in the position of these two, what he was about to say would make the word "JACKLE" scream in his head like a siren. But he had to try anyway. He had no way of telling otherwise, unfortunately.
"Okay, first of all... I want you guys to tell me exactly how long you've had the disease, who you know thats been sent here, and how long you've been here. And don't try and pull any shit. I can tell if you lie." he was telling the truth, too. Unless the person had made themselves believe whatever lie they told, their heartbeat and muscle tension would change, and he could hear all of that if he focused hard enough.

A sound suddenly assaulted Claes's ears. A loud crack that felt as if it had penetrated the weak protection that his headphones gave him and struck him like a blow. He crumpled to his knees, cradling his head as it throbbed. His ears rang. He'd only felt this kind of pain and that kind of sound once before.
"Oh, for the love of... Some damned idiot just shot a gun..." He could barely hear his own voice, much less Aria's or the newcomer's.
For a moment,he was consumed by fear. This was one of the few times he really felt like he was blind. Because he'd never been truly blind after the light has left his eyes. He had always had his hearing, and he wasn't completely helpless. Not like he was now.
Still, he stood up. If someone had shot a gun, that meant that someone else was dead. And that would mean that Jackles were involved. Or, at least, they would be soon.

Aria half smiles at the two and sits on an old broken down bench. She stares at Claes for a few seconds, knowing that if she told him how long she's had the disease he'd think she was lying immediately. That's the last thing she needed. She wanted these two to trust her, not doubt her. But it's not like there was another choice. If she didn't tell them they might think she was hiding something from them. She took a deep breath and barely spoke "3 months now, I think" she looked at the ground as she played with the dirt. "I stopped counting after the first month." She picked up a rock and tossed it aside, and did it again. "That...what happened out there was caused by it." she looks at them both, waiting and hopeful that they wouldn't abandon her now. Even though she hand't known them for long, she really liked these two. They seem sincere, unique. Something made them different. And if they were here because of her letter they were now her responsibility. Whether they knew it or not. "What about you guys?"
She was startled when Claes stood up and looked at him curiously. Her guess was that he heard something outside.

As the ringing faded away, Claes began to be able to make sense of what he was hearing again. All he really got was that it had been three months and that she wasn't dying quite yet. Well, that was good, because that meant that they could find whoever was probably about to die in the wasteland out there. He nodded.
"Three months and pain attacks, huh? Any other problems?" he asked, suddenly realizing that, if you take out the blindness, that was similar to his own condition. Maybe, just maybe, if the disease hadn't begun destroying her body tissues, she was like him. Whether that was lucky or not, he didn't know. "Anyways, let's talk while we go try and save the sorry butt of whoever just shot a gun."
He listened to the newcomer, who still hadn't talked yet, and judged that he wasn't going to say anything. Maybe he couldn't. Claes shrugged.
"Anyways, let's save my story for later. You probably won't understand the time period I've had it unless you hear the whole story... Probably. Aria, can you lead the way? It's over there," he pointed down through the city, in a direction that offered at least a fair amount of cover, but lower buildings. "And we'll probably have Jackles to deal with, too, so..." his foot hit something metal. He bent down and felt it. It was a large, solid steel pole that was taller than him. It wasn't a perfect weapon, but he guessed it was a start.

"You know i never got either one of your names" Aria said as she looked at the boys and then outside where one of them had pointed. "Alright, since i'm the one who put you guys in this situation, i'm going to protect you with my life. The last thing I want is for either of you to get hurt." she turned to face them, hand on blade in case of an attack. "Remember, never travel alone. No matter how strong you are, the Jackles will always be stronger." she leans against the now closed door feeling a little warn out from the episode she had earlier.
"Make sure you always have some sort of weapon on you. Anything helps." she opens the door and peaks outside "Okay, let's go. Stay close" she steps out carefully scouting the area for any roaming Jackles. It seemed clear, but she kept her guard up just to make sure. She turn back to the boys and whispered. "Let's go" then headed out.

Claes followed her and the silent man out of the clocktower. He still had his headphones on, so he couldnt tell where any of the Jackles were, unfortunately. But he was about at his limit for pain at the moment, or else he didn't even know what would happen. So he justa assumed that he'd have to leave it to Aria and the other man to be his eyes.
"Claes Eiker. You'll have to tell me his name, since he doesn't talk," he said softly, following Aria with his new metal pole as a weapon.
Since he hadn't heard any gunshots again, he assumed that the person who fired was either dead or hiding. Or injured, which, here, was the equivalent of dead.

Aria turns to look at the silent boy, wishing she had taken some sort of sign language class. "Sorry, I can speak English, Italian and Spanish all you want...but absolutely no sign language." she says with a frown. "I wish there was some sort of..." she spots a tiny stick near the door and quickly grabs it. She hands it to the boy and motions to the patch of dirt they are standing on. "Maybe you can write it out?" she asks hopeful. "I'm sorry i can't give you anything better. I nearly died when i was trying to get the paper for the letters i sent out." she said as she searched her pockets to make sure she didn't have any stray pieces of paper in there that could be of use. No such luck. The stick and dirt was the best she could do.

Ambrose Priphea

Ambrose was quiet, unsure if he should try and interject and speak to them. However, each time he tried to speak, nothing came out, and interjecting with sign language never worked very well. So he remained quiet, simply looking at the ground from where he sat. He managed to shuffle back until he sat against the wall, not much further away - Maybe a meter at most. He watched them with a tiny smile, one hand crossing over his chest to lightly hold the upper portion of his opposite arm while the other stayed near the ground while he flicked rocks across the ground. He was very quiet, waiting very patiently. However, when asked how long they had been there, Ambrose shook his head and shrugged.

However, when the girl mentioned protecting them with her life, Ambrose stood and with a concerned expression, he shook his head. Slowly, he clasped his hands together as if begging her to not do anything drastic for his sake. When they began to move, Ambrose followed, more than happy to have company in these times. It was hard to be alone and afraid, but in groups things were easier. When he realized they she asked for their names, he frowned. Slowly, he began to sign his name. A - M - B - R Then he realized that neither of them understood him. Slowly, he lowered his hands.

When Claes introduced himself, he smiled and nodded towards him. He placing his hands against each other, horizontally, and slid the hand on top across the other before pointing to Claes. Suddenly, he remembered the other boy didn't seem to have a good time seeing. Looking almost embarrassed, he lowered his hands and scratched at the back of his neck. When Aria turned to him, he blinked at her before smiling and cocking his head a bit, making a silent inquiry. When she apologized, he simply gave her an understanding look, showing he certainly wasn't deaf or at least was a very good lip reader. As she handed him a stick and gestured to the ground, he grinned. What a wonderful idea! When she apologized, he shook his head as if to say 'no problem'.

Crouching down, Ambrose placed the end of the stick against the ground and began to drag it through the dirt. Slowly, he wrote out a message and looked up at them, offering them a kindly smile. The message on the ground read 'Hello. My name is Ambrose Priphea, and i'm very glad to meet you both. I don't know how long i've been here. I'm sorry i can't talk to you. My throat hurts'.

Aria reads the message out loud so that Claes too can know what it says. She nods and smiles at him. "Very nice to meet you Ambrose" she says extending her hand out to him "I'm glad you could join us. You seem like an awesome guy" She looks at both of the boys and smiles. She was glad they had come. Meeting them now made her wanna fight even more. It made her feel stronger and she really liked that. She'd have 3 people to fight for now. She looked around studying the area and noticed the trash bin in which Ambrose had been hiding and something came over her. She started laughing and laughing, and every time she'd look at the trash bin she'd burst out in laughter again. These guys probably thought she was insane.

Aria had started laughing, and Claes couldnt quite tell what was going on.
Suddenly, a though occurred to him that he was pretty sure of. He sighed. He would probably laugh too, if he had been in Aria's position. Ending up with a blind boy and a mute as a fighting force. Perfect. Well, there was probably more to the other two than met the eye, like there was to him... But he at least hoped that whatever happened to the mute man during the "attacks" caused by the disease was better than what happened to Aria. Or himself, but that wasn't so much a danger to him as others...
"Hey, Aria, I get that this isn't exactly ideal, but..." he was back to his normal, icy personality and way of speaking. "there's someone out there and they're probably dead. We should at least grab the gun they used."

Aria stopped laughing and looked at him in confusion. "Ideal? What..." her eyes widen as she realizes what he means and waves her hand back and forth as if she were erasing something. "Oh, no! That's not...You guys are the best team I could ask for" she says smiling sincerely. "I mean that! I know it might sound stupid but, I'm glad you two were the ones who came." she looks back at the trash bin again and snickers. "I just think it's kind of funny. There whole time Ambrose was in there he was hiding from us thinking we were Jackles" she looks at Ambrose with a crooked smile "And we were out here thinking you were a Jackle hiding in there" she shakes her head at how odd the whole situation was, and takes a deep breath. "Alright Aria, focus!" she nods at both of the boys "Let's go" and she heads in the direction Claes had pointed to earlier. Hopefully, no one innocent had died yet.

Aria walked on ahead of the boys, occasionally looking back to make sure they were okay...or that they hadn't just up and left her to fight alone. They probably think they're not much help, but they're helping her a lot more than she thinks. She looks back once again as the boys walk silently behind her and gives them a shy little smile. Something in the pit of her stomach told her that things were about to go from bad to worse, but she didn't want to alarm them for no reason. It could be just her being paranoid the way she's been since she got to this place. She stops suddenly and stares straight ahead -Something moved- she thought to herself. She glanced around and spotted a dark alley to her right. -Maybe we should...no, that's exactly where they'd look for us first" she sighed and turned to face the boys. "Okay guys, not to alarm you but...I saw something move up ahead and judging by it's speed, it was no ordinary human." she managed to keep a calm appearance but inside her heart was beating faster and faster by the second.
