One night, blackouts occurred all across the world. Fog then spread across the sky. Nobody knew what to do. The government tried to find out the cause, searching for signs of a terrorist attack or a natural disaster that could take out the power. The search yielded no results. Some civilians tried to leave town, driving, flying, sailing, running, or even swimming out into the fog. No one ever saw them. For the people who stayed, the period of darkness was a frightening and lonely experience. The cries and screams of unseen victims cold be heard, but they were not seen...nor were there attackers. After three days of darkness, the fog lifted. People holed up in their homes came out for food, water, and signs of safety. When they looked up at the skies, they saw that a blood-red moon was rising. They were definitely not safe.

This story revolves around the town of Glennsdale, South Carolina, a collection of suburbs outside the city of New Providence. The danger seems to be greater in more populated areas; there are more threats, and the chaos of so many people trying to leave the city complicated the situation. The government quickly lost control of its people. Glennsdale is on the west side of New Province, and to the east of the city are the docks. These docks lead to the Atlantic Ocean. To the southwest of Glennsdale is the rural area of Marshall County.

Mysterious forces caused the darkness, and the changes that occurred in the three days are unknown. In this world, anything can happen. Each day brings a new terror. Those who are cautious, diligent, and observant survive. It's safer in groups, but conflict will arise. Bandit groups have formed, and some military and police forces have gone paranoid, firing on anything moving. The only structure in the world is made by the survivors. The world is what you make it, but it may not be what you expect.
