Po could be considered a âNice Guyâ. He legitimately cares about those around him, often going out of his way to ensure that theyâre alright or doing something to elevate their moods. In a fight, heâs the first to jump in and protect someone, and the last one to walk out if thatâs even an option. Observant nearly to a fault, sometimes a flurry of information can be presented in such a short amount of time itâs like watching circuits fry as he tries to figure out the best possible option as quickly as possible. When the lines between good and bad start to blue, this is where he struggles and can quickly become distressed as he tries to find the best solution to a horrible equation. In this regard, his inherently good and kind nature works against him as he often believes that thereâs no such thing as a âNo Win Situationâ.
Another thing that quickly becomes evident is his constant need to âhold backâ when in a fight with anything other than a Grim. If heâs fighting something sentient, human or faunus, his personality dictates that he doesnât really want to hurt or kill them, but recognizes that in order to protect the majority he needs to do something. As such, heâs subconsciously hampering himself and opening himself up to people who arenât nearly as restrained as he is. While a skilled fighter, tactician and all around good hunter in training, heâs nowhere near the level of those whose goal is to simply become a Hunter/Huntress. His goal is to protect, and while this stems more from a need to defend those who he cares about, it has slowly started to encompass pretty much anyone that enters his field of view.
With that in mind, he can sometimes act without fully thinking something through if he believes someone is in legitimate danger. While quick to react, he can quickly throw himself into a situation that doesnât lend itself to his advantage. On the flip side, his resilience comes from a nearly indomitable will that forces him to stand even when everything inside him is screaming to lay down and die. The only problem is forcing a situation where that kind of will is required, since anything short of life threatening leads Po to be less than his absolute best.
Outside of combat and his general need to be an almost father figure to those around him, Po has a kind of wisdom to him that comes from a mixture of good intuition, empathy, intelligence and experience. Never one to give unsolicited advice, he often leads people to conclusions rather than spells it out for them. Mentally, it makes him seem older than he is, but it can and has backfired on him before. Where some might take the help as intended, others view it as arrogant and conceited. They believe that he believes himself to be infallible. Po would argue these claims, but deep down he canât help but love it when someone takes his advice, his own little guilty pleasure it would seem. Guiding lives to a certain destination has a certain appeal, but he prefers to at the very least aim it in a âgoodâ direction.
At the end of the day, Po is someone who can be relied upon to act in the best interest of the group rather than just himself. Heâs kind hearted, empathetic, wise and protective, while also being slightly arrogant, quick to react and slow to adjust and held back when it really matters. He just wants whatâs best for everyone, often times throwing his own whims and desires behind him and focusing on others.
His power has a slightly different effect on dust. Dust seems to act like an anchor, and can be manipulated on a finer scale, leading to a common misconception of telekinesis. Essentially, when dust or an item that is infused with dust enters his radius, it acts like a receiver. With a little extra effort, he can treat that item like he treats himself, and can dictate whether that item or dust is affected by his semblance. As such, his weapons are usually coated in a thin layer of dust to prevent them being as heavy as trees or floating off weightlessly into the air.
Po utilizes a dual set of single sided hand axes named Kalos and Multa, simple in design and lacking any real flourish aside from the fact that they seem to be in very good condition. The axes have a compartment built within the handles that contains a small amount of dust (The type doesnât matter in this situation). At the touch of a button, located where Poâs thumbs would be on the hilt, it sprays a localized burst of dust on the weapons to allow him to use his weapons when his gravity manipulation semblance takes place.
When ranged warfare is the better option, the axes can transform into dual lever action pistols with a 10 round magazine each. The transformation isnât overly flashy, with the end of the handle angling slightly and a trigger popping out of the handhold. The axe blades are facing down, and the top of the handle opens up to reveal a gun barrel. Po keeps spare magazines on his legs, attached to his pants in the from of open sided magazines.
Po came back on a daily basis with some new kind of injury, although most of them were never life threatening. When he was asked about what he was doing, he responded by saying he was only doing what she told him to do, which was protect others. Even from a young age, and even to some of the kids who were older than him, Po became the responsible older brother. He was the one who would keep them out of trouble, or failing that, would find a way to get them back to safety. It was due to this mindset that his parents saw a potential in him and set about putting together a plan for his future.
His mother took time out of her day to start training Po in some basic combat techniques, teaching him what to do in the event of a Grimm attack, and some other little tidbits she had picked up from her time as a hunter. When the time came to enroll Po in Signal Academy, his parents revealed they had been saving up for a number of years to support him through the process. At the time, he wasnât even one hundred percent sure he wanted to be a hunter, but he didnât want to disappoint his parents. So with a smile and more than a fair share of uncertainty, Po went through Signal academy. It was here he made his axes, Kalos and Multa, two names that he pulled out of nowhere since he fathom naming weapons of war after anything he truly loved or admired in his life. To say he struggled through the academy would be a fair assessment. He was confused and lacked any real direction. While he would fight to protect people, who couldnât pull up the same drive when it came to just him and fighting for the sake of fighting. It wasnât until much later, when a teacher drove a point home that he finally understood it.
They werenât just warriors, they were icons. They were people that everyday citizens looked to as heroes and protectors. Po started warming up to the idea of being that kind of person, one that dedicated themselves to the protection of others. The next point is what made Po get serious about the ordeal, about the training and switching his mindset when fighting solo battles.
They couldnât protect anyone if they were dead.
From that point on, Poâs grades and performance improved dramatically. While he was nowhere near the top of his class, he was more than adequate to graduate and gain a spot in Beacon Academy. With his weapons on his back, a smile on his face and a racing heart, he was ready to face the world once more and show to his parents that they were right to send him here. He belonged here.
